Shave, Haircut and Child Porn … The Barber of St. Francis, Vernon C. Seitz, PART I

Posted by BOC Staff | Cold Case,Daniel Barter,Jacob Wetterling,Kidnapping,Missing Child,Vernon Seitz | Sunday 11 January 2009 10:56 am

Vernon C. Seitz, 62, was found deceased in his home on December 15, 2008 by Milwaukee, WI police following a wellness check request by a friend. While it appeared Mr. Seitz died of natural causes, what police also found in his home was anything but natural.

Milwaukee Police executed a Search warrant the following day, and seized over 500 pieces of evidence, including male child porn, bondage equipment, a book titled “Eat Thy Neighbor: A History of Cannibalism and children’s shoes. According to a search warrant obtained by TODAY’S TMJ4, “during an emergency sweep of Seitz’s residence officers noticed newly poured cement in Seitz’s basement” and “elevated dirt piles in the yard and bondage devices in the basement, hanging from the floor rafters.”

Also found, of unknown origin, were tufts of what appears to be human hair.  Before anyone speculates it would be natural for a barber to have tufts of hair lying around his shop,  Verns’ Barber Shop is located 10 miles away.  At Seitz’s Packard Ave Barber shop he owned for 20 years, Police found a laminated poster of missing Minnesota Child Jacob Wetterling.  Jacob Wetterling, abducted in October 1989 by a masked gunman  while riding his bike to rent a movie with his brother and a friend, has never been found. Apparently that is not due to the fact that Mr. Seitz did not make the effort:

The boy’s mother, Patty Wetterling, told the St. Paul Pioneer Press that Seitz came to visit her twice soon after the abduction. He claimed to be a psychic wanting to help and had even given her a painting of Jacob.

“He seemed to care, and he shared that he had his own personal reason to care,” she said, noting that Seitz had had an abusive incident happen to him in the past, which she declined to speak of further. There were a number of not yet disclosed missing children Michael_dunaheeposters among Mr. Seitz belongings. However, it appears Mr. Seitz’s concerns for missing young boys extends beyond the domestic.  Creepy Barber Guy had a missing person’s poster of Michael Dunhee.

Michael Dunhee, aged 4 ½, disappeared from a park near his home in Victoria, BC in 1991 and has never been found.    Michael’s Mother, Crystal Dunahee,  told CBC News on Wednesday that she’s not sure whether Seitz ever contacted her family after Michael disappeared, but that the name Vernon Seitz does seem “familiar” to her.

Dust off the Rorschach, shrink needs a shrink

Seitz confessed to his psychiatrist of 11 years, Dr.  Victoria Fetter: “He told me that although he liked little boys, he knew that you can’t touch little boys, so what he did was paint them nude,” Fetter said. “He didn’t tell me about kiddie porn or anything that he would get in boiling hot water if he did anything, then he can paint the pictures. That won’t hurt anybody.”

He also told her that he had used what he regarded as his psychic abilities to help the families of missing children across the Midwest but that he never mentioned Jacob Wetterling.

The story of the potential confessions of Vernon Seitz gets more bizarre when you talk with Seitz’s psychiatrist. She told TMJ4′s Charles Benson that the 62-year-old Seitz was on a mission of mercy.

She said Seitz wanted to put his mind at ease about killing a 14-year-boy in Racine back in the late 1950′s when Seitz was only 12-years-old. Fetter wouldn’t comment on whether Seitz ever confessed other crimes to her, citing doctor-patient confidentiality. She said she could only talk about the 1950s incident. Fetter said she was appalled when she found out what police found in Seitz’s house.

Is “boiling in hot water a psychiatric term for spending the rest of your life in the slammer where he becomes the little boy in the scenario? Sources inside the investigation indicate there are discrepancies in Dr. Fetter’s comments to MPD leading up to the passing of Seitz.

If that is true, it will not be the first time Dr. Fetter’s patient management skills have come under scrutiny. In 2000, Fetter was professionally reprimanded by the Wisconsin Medical Board for misconduct of confidentiality and unprofessionalism towards a patient and her family during 1996-1997. This would be right around the time Seitz began seeing her. I did not provide the reference to this information to protect the privacy of the patient involved in the sanction. It can be researched through her medical license, however.

What did they find under the freshly poured cement ???
I voted for Coke on the advertisement !!! Any idea when I will receive my $50,000

  2. Cases not connected? Seitz would not have acted out on his sick fantasies … are you joking???

He had missing children’s posters in his possessions. Don’t pedo’s take souvenirs of their conquests as a reminder?

This sicko is probably responsible for God knows how many MP cases and sexual assaults.

Thanks to the psychiatrist not thinking this guy was dangerous to those in his surroundings.

I feel this man needs to be looked into in relation to past abductions, child porn cases, etc. You don’t have this amount of child porn, missing/abducted posters, and bondage equipment unless you are involved and using them.

What continues to cause me great concern, is that apparently this psychiatrist is unaware that child porn is illegal. She is shocked and appalled”" at what was found but still does not address the implications of that. Yeesh.”

Criminals love to revisit the scene of their crimes. Vernon C. Seitz, got off visiting the mothers of missing children. Or maybe he just felt guilty? I read a book years ago about the patterns of serial killers. It shocked me how most had so much in common. I had known two people that had some of the same background traits of a serial killer. Our they killers? Probably not. But I have never trusted them. Males also seem to out number female serial killers. Or maybe the females are smarter. :-)

  6. Blink34 says:

Greg- not touching the who is smarter question :)

But your right, by far, males outnumber females in the child molestation and serial killer cases.

I am really freaked out that his 20 year Business, was never registered as a Barber Shop in WI.. I am guesing there is random and unannounced inspections in that industry..

What kind of vehicle did this guy drive?

Lastly- A pic or memorial or obit has not been released, although his family feels he was a kind man with no issues.. Uh huh.

  7. HOPE says:

There’s a reason why there is so much violence, physical, emotional and sexual; perpetrated against children. But we have no control over it. All we can do is beware of the fact that there are real bogeymen out there that are preying on our children, ever day and in every way. Vernon Seitz took a lot of secrets with him when he died, but there will be justice for all the innocent ones that he abducted, tortured and killed. Jehovah, himself, has done an accounting and there is nothing done, even in secret, that He doesn’t see.

Hope, are you a Jehovah’s Witness? Just curious :-) You mention Jehovah”" in your comment above

  9. Blink34 says:

I stand corrected on the obit…

Note that there is no mention of his Father, who is living, or his Mom’s name who was deceased.

This just came to me. If this guy dies sitting in a chair from hypertensive heart issue-
How is it possible he dug up his backyard? Wouldn’t one assume that with such a serious heart condition digging up his backyard would pretty much kill him during the act?

Who was seen over there? What kind of vehicle did he have? Did somone dig up the backyard after they knew he was dead?

  18. Richard says:

Given the volume of suggestive evidence, it seems strange to me that the police came out so quickly and said there is no reason to think that this guy is involved in anything criminal.

Of course, a cover-up is what we all think of first thing, these days. But doesn’t it seem odd?

At the very least, he seems to have had some lurid interests. That’s not proof of anything, of course.

  22. HOPE says:

I was going to say that I knew this little boy who was in foster care with a very good friend of mine. He was the worst case of child abuse ever documented in the state of Washington Children’s Services Division. He was, deathly, afraid of movie theaters. His father used to take him to the bathroom and sell him to men at XXX rated theaters. To think about him and his life story, is saddening. He came to be mentally handicapped, for obvious reasons, and became an offender himself. No amount of therapy could cure him.

I don’t know what became of his father. But his adoptive parents had to relinquish him back to the state for they couldn’t afford to keep him in a home until the time he became an adult.

I believe this man was displaying those kind of movies in his ‘barber shop’ and marketing little boys.

  25. [...] Part I: Shave, Haircut and Child Porn … The Barber of St. Francis, Vernon C. Seitz [...]

  26. Aries says:

OK, to take some of these points seperately.

The most serious pieces of evidence are the male child porn. This is just plain illegal as well as wrong and exploitation. Yet this does not automatically make him a murderer.

Bondage – not illegal. Not even immoral. There is no evidence that he abducted anyone. And I believe there is an “innocent until proven guilty” theme in the US, no? There is where I’m from, anyway.

Missing Children posters – Yes, these appear damning in combination with the above, especially the first. However, he appears to have believed he was psychic. Perhaps he even was, although there is no evidence he ever managed to find any of those children who were missing. Even morbid curiosity is not a crime. The person who created this website has detailed information carefully collected about dozens of crimes. I have to say that under this draconian outlook, he or she must have been a -very- busy little bunny to have committed -all- of them.

Cannibalism book – I currently have several books about programming. This does not (alas!) make me a programmer. I have read books on Islam, Judaisism, Druidism and various political outlooks. I’d be rather bewildered to be all of them. Also have read several books on black magic in interest. This does not make me a goat-worshipping demon-summoner. Am amazed that no-one insisted that he kidnapped and ate people yet. After the comment about the XXX movie theatre barbershop pimp theory, I’d believe people could come up with anything.

Dahmer connection – Rubbish. I live in Ireland. That does not mean I bombed Omagh.

Seitz abused as a child – Not a crime, although I do know the common view that abused children becoming abusing adults. Not all do.

Piles of dirt in the backyard, concrete in the basement – Piles of dirt happen. Let’s see if anything can be found before throwing comments around. I have not heard of anything being turned up yet.
Overall, this evidence is not damning. Human remains under the dirt piles and we have something to go on here. The neighbour witness mentioned about a jackhammer being brought in. Seemingly nothing was found; otherwise I am sure there would be more hits than just the man’s obit and this website in the past several months.

The evidence of the psychiatrist – This shows that this man knew he had unhealthy appetites and, equally, that he could and should do nothing on them because it was wrong. How well he could resist those temptations is not clear. He fell to some extent as the painting and porn shows. There is, however, no evidence that he ever physically touched a child. No evidence does not mean he categorically did not any more than it means he did.

The religion arguments – ….irrelevent to the entire issue, especially the anti-JW troll.

So. We can take the outlook that either, as some posters have suggested, this man was a homicidal paedophile who got away with abducting and murdering a number of children and presumably burying them in the basement.

We could also conclude that he was a rather simple man (hard to tell, just something I considered from his quotes) who was abused as a child, leading to him having a fixiation about other children missing and in danger that he wanted to save, by means of his “psychic abilities”. We can also consider that he either knew he had unhealthy appetites or was lead into them (if we take evidence of relatives convictions) and did his best to control them by talking regularly to a psychiatrist and playing out his fantasies in what he considered to be the most harmless way he could. I AM NOT CONDONING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY!! Get that right, please. It is wrong, disgusting, exploitative and abusive, even if the end user does not realise that last one. HOWEVER! It is ALSO not murder.

Either way, we can conclude that the matter was being looked into by the police. If there is something to be found under the cocrete and dirt piles, it will be. Until then, remember that this man is dead and cannot defend himself. Pass judgement on him if you (to bow to the Believers who have made their presense so thoroughly felt) have no guilt on your own souls. But do not charge him with murder until there is actual evidence for it. This man had a family who loved him. They are wondering things too. You do not have to make things harder for them.

And to the owner of this site: you have a responsibility to everyone you talk to and talk about, my friend. Do not abuse it. Perhaps your insinuations and ideas are correct. Perhaps they are not, in which case you have gravely wronged this man and his relatives and friends.

Relevent arguments and refutations welcome. But can we please stay off the religion?
