Casey Anthony Back in Court: Baez and Baden Bungle Badly

Orlando, FL– Casey Anthony appeared in court alongside Jose Baez and Linda Kenney Baden today to hear the most recent motions brought forth by her attorneys.

Baden

Linda Baden came out of the defense corner swinging. When she was told their motion for benchnotes was moot as she did not cite a Florida case to support her request, she became openly argumentative with his Honor Stan Strickland. Strickland in essence told the defense he is not their lackey, and the state has no burden to chase down documents for them.

BaezBaez was next at bat with a heavy swing and miss. He brought the motion for sanctions and in effect tried to say “nevermind”, I’ll get them in the witness chair. Prosecutor Linda Drubnick objected heavily and reminded Baez that she gave him several options to rescind the motion and ample notice of same. She stated he made specific allegations and they in fact should be heard, by way of his own testimony subject to cross examination. She got her way.

A lengthy bench conference ensued with the microphones turned off. Baez first called Gerardo Bloise, CSI employee for OCSO to question his processing of Casey’s car on July 16th. The State objected twice to his questioning as the scope of the motion limited to the date of November 14. The objection was sustained. Judge Strickland reminded Baez they were short on time. Baez line of questioning seemed to be disorganized and unprepared. He repeated questions that were not appropriate to the witness as it concerned the work of Mr. Bloise’s supervisor, Michael Vincent. At one point, Bloise requested Baez actually call Vincent as he felt uncomfortable answering questions that did not relate to his work product. Judge Strickland remanded Baez to allow the witness to finish his answers when prompted by the State’s objection.  On 4 seperate occasions Judge Strickland reminded by Baez that he was there on his sanction motion, not to get into discovery and disallowed the question, to which Baez had no further questions for the witness. After changing his mind twice about calling another witness, Baez elected not to and began his argument for sanctions.

In short Jose Baez made the case for sanactions because they were not told that the Prosecution has A ROD on their roster, or in this case the Entomologist equivalent, Dr. Neil Haskell. Haskell

Baez did not so much as recommend an intended sanction, however he did say he thought that the State should foot the bill for Dr. Lee, apparently as they are at their roster salary cap and feel it is an unlevel playing field.

The State hit back hard that in no way did Baez lay out a case for improprietary requiring sanctions in any way. The Judge agreed.

Motions for Sanctions D E N I E D.

Lastly, Baden is out of the dug out to argue the motion that they want more examinations notes from Ricardo Morales’s computer, of which they are currently in posession of the hard drive. It would seem the theme today is “penny pinching”. The State argued that they are not certain what they mean by screenshots.

George Anthony appeared to weep when discussion of his suicide note ensued, and the decision was made that there are no public information requests on grounds of irrelevance to the case, and the media is free to bring motion to challenge that if they choose.

3 Motions, 3 strikes and the Defense was O U T .

TY for the update Blink..I watched most of it..but eventually had to just turn the darn thing off. It was just painful to watch Baez and Baden ..neither seemed particularly prepared today. Baden was as annoying as always…but she made no points with the judge. Neither did Baez and both need to take a refresher course in motions and sanctions. Baez just doesn’t get how to phrase things does he?

Lord help us when the real deal trial comes…I’ll not be able to watch straight through..just too painful..worse then watching the same train wreck day after day.

So basically, Baez is angry that the state did not let the defense know that there were maggots in the car? He made some rigamaroll about, “If we knew Dr. Haskell was on the witness list we could deduce that they were looking at bugs. We didn’t know that!” Whaa!!!
So the state is supposed to show everything they have but the defense don’t need to share anything?

  3. Annals says:

Wow. I was amazed that Linda Kenney-Baden was snarky with the Judge at one point; telling him in an angrily sarcastic manner that forenzic bench notes are commonly provided to defense attorneys everywhere else in the country.

This is the second time I’ve heard Kenney-Baden criticize how things are done in this particular court. I guess we’re going to get an education from her as to how Judge Strictland measures up against her standards. I wonder how that will go for her.

can someone please tell ms. baden to STOP breathing heavily into the microphone while the judge is considering her request?? it sounded like a porn film, the way she was breathing into that open mike. and, did anyone else notice all the whispering between casey and jose? the main thing i noticed was how nervous casey seemed to be when they were talking about the hair with the death band and the stain in the trunk of her car. casey’s eyes were darting all over the place and she had a serious look of guilt about her face. i thought george was crying at one point. i did not notice cindy chomping on her gum today. when casey left the courtroom, she did not even look over toward her parents. how sad. she is truly a snot.

  5. Blink says:

OMG, that was all I could hear. I swear I know it is unkind, but the first time I saw her at the SPectr trial I thought she was Dr. Baden in drag.

  6. Greg says:

Baez & Baden seem to the worst lawyers Casey could have picked. The “Dream team” is more like a “nightmare”.

I guess ABC/Disney have decided to cut ties on paying for Anthony’s defense team? Casey should cop a plea. If she can get one? Save the state of Florida some money. Also spare her family from the shame.

  7. IVOIRE says:

Hi Blink…Excellent sleuthing!…Anyway, since you have your contacts everywhere can you PLEASE REQUEST THAT THE ORLANDO SENTINEL MAKE A MOTION TO 1) RELEASE THE GEORGE ANTHONY SUICIDE NOTE AND 2) RELEASE BOTH JAIL HOUSE VIDEOS THAT BOZO BAEZ WANTS TO SUPRESS…..(I could care less that George might be embarrassed!!)

ALSO, LINDA K. BADEN IS SUCH AN OBNOXIOUS AND GROTESQUE CREATURE WHO LOOKS LIKE SHE IS ONE HORMONE SHOT AWAY FROM SEX REASSINGMENT SURGERY!)!!…OHHHHH ICK!

  8. Gigi says:

blink: ms. baden was in large part responsible for the hung jury in the spector trial (i know you know this, am only pointing it out to others on the blog). she comes with a huge reputation and her expertise in forensic materials is quite well known. all she needs is one juror to be confused and we know ms. baden will be slinging lots of that around the courtroom. i am so afraid that casey is going to walk. put baden and macaluso together and they just might cook up a good story and the jury might buy it. how scary is that??? and, could someone please give ms. baden a hairbrush. god, she looks awful. if i were a juror, i would discount whatever she had to say because she looks like a slouch and not credible.

  9. Scoop says:

    Dr. Baden, in drag?!!!!

    ROFL!

    :)

  10. lee says:

I thought Ms. Baden was supposed to be the best in her field. Her and Baez looked like the keystone cops today.

It does make me a little nervous that Dr. Lee found 17 strands of hair and stains at the crime seen detectives did not find. That on top of the issues with the cops not ivestigating the calls from Kronk. We all know casey did this, but money talks in this world!!

  11. tina says:

with the hair Dr.Lee claims he found in the trunk, cannot believe anything anyone says on the defence side. i would love to sit on that jury, i so hope little miss sunshien does not walk, she is as guilty as OJ SIMPSON IS

  12. Red Ranger says:

Baez was so obviously unprepared to address his motions that I was almost embarrassed for him. He looked foolish and the SA just helped with a few nudges. SS switches between being angry with him and pitying him. His actions were totally inappropriate for the premise they were all there for.

At least he did not relieve himself on the floor or wipe the contents of his nose on the lecturn.

Any sightings of him since yesterday where he is wearing a wedding ring. Licorice anyone? OK, I’ll stop now.
