“MY DAD WAS THE ZODIAC KILLER” GUY WARD HENDRICKSON

Posted by BOC Staff | Cold Case,Guy Ward Hendrickson,Murdered,Serial Killer,The Zodiac Killer,Uncategorized | Thursday 30 April 2009 1:52 pm

San Francisco, CA– The former law partner of divorce attorney to the stars- Melvin Belli has conducted a 2 year investigation into claims made by an Orange County Realtor that her father, Guy Ward Hendrickson, is the Zodiac Killer.

Deborah Perez came forward on the steps of the San Francisco Chronicle this afternoon:

Perez claims that she accompanied her Father on some of his murderous outings when she was 7, and actually wrote the letter to police and Marvin Belli for her father. She claims that when she saw the Zodiac Killers composite in 1997, she immediately knew it was her father. It was not known why Ms. Perez waited to come forward, but she is currently making a documentary of the crimes.

McLean stated that handwriting experts have confirmed that the letters were written by Perez, she has a pair of glasses she believes were a trophy taken by her father of cab driver victim Paul Stine, and she actually embroidered the black mask described by some of his victims.

All evidence and investigation notes have been turned over to the FBI, who will launch their own investigation into the claims.

Guy Ward Hendrickson died of cancer in 1993.

Thank you for your response, P.M.

I watched the press release today and to be quite frank, I was very disappointed, as I believe many people were.

There was no real revelation nor expert support/opinion given by anyone as the press release had stated: “Attending with her will be leading forensic experts..”

and.. “WHO: Family member of Zodiac Killer, former associates of Law Firm of Melvin M. Belli, forensic experts, investigators.”

As I said in my earlier email, I have researched the Zodiac case for many years, actually for approximately 23 years.
I have interviewed many people having some relationship or the other to the case, such as friends, associates, immediate family, surviving victims, and law enforcement officer’s/investigators, suspects, et cetera.

Not only have I spent a considerable amount of time in research, I was also a close friend of Arthur Leigh Allen prior to his death and became such after my first taped interview with him in his home in Vallejo back in the late 1980′s.

I consider myself a very adept investigator as well as criminal behavioural analyst (profiler)
I am eventually going to complete my education in the area of forensic psychology and specialize in paraphilias and serial pattern homicides and rapes.

My knowledge base is quite in depth and I believe someday I will be one of this country’s most renowned forensic psychologists. (A great measure of confidence here)

    Anyway..
To get to the point of the matter:
From review of the videotaped press conference today, it became quickly apparent that Ms. Perez is not being truthful in regards to her recollection of certain instances she alleges to have experienced during her childhood in relation to her father and the Zodiac crimes.
Or possibly she is a fantasy-prone or delusional personality type?

I was not at all impressed by her as well as Mr. McLean’s presentation of the evidence purportedly relating to her father and Zodiac.
Nothing which would actually substantiate her claims was placed on the table, which would of course go a distance in gaining the support of the community/media.

I performed a brief psycholinguistic/kinesical analysis on speech patterns and particular syntax and her facial expressions/eye movement behaviours.
She was not in any way convincing.

It’s interesting that team Perez’ forensic handwriting expert happens to be Bart Baggett.

I recently was a part of an online debate in regards to his father, Curt Baggett, as having made an fatal error in the analysis of John Mark Karr’s handwriting in comparison to the ransom note left at the JonBenet Ramsey homicide.
I believe Curt Baggett suggested the following:

To put it another way, Baggett said, the “chances are a million-to- one” that someone other than Karr wrote the ransom note.
    Also:

Curt Baggett said he isn’t concerned that he has taken the lead on the identification of Karr as the ransom note’s author. “It takes guts to make a decision,” he said. “Most people want to wait and see.”

And now we learn that his son, Bart, is placing his namesake on the line as well.

I performed a few hours of analysis on the same samples Curt Baggett had used and I came to the conclusion that, although there were a few instances of good similarity, I noted more dissimilarity between the two.

And I’m by no means a handwriting expert.

I certainly hope Bart Baggett will reconsider his position on this issue as it will undoubtedly be learned within a relatively short time, that Mr. Hendrickson and/or his daughter were not the producers of any of the Zodiac’s written correspondence.

Clinging to this belief will undoubtedly affect his credibility as a handwriting authority as it had his father’s.

It’s already out there that Mr. McLean was recently disbarred for some very serious ethics violations.

And therefore his credibility and motivations are already at issue in the public’s eye.

Many consider the whole press conference a big charade for publicity and financial gain.. Just as I do.

The mentioning of the foundation for children who have gone through what Deborah has.. Didn’t help in obtaining public support or confidence either..

I certainly hope the situation which was created for whatever agenda is underlying will not backfire on either Deborah Perez or Mr. McLean.

    I wish you well..

I’d also like to add a supplemental statement to my post made on
    May 02 2–9 at 3:11 (No. 37)

I realize I suggested that any further discussion of the Ramsey homicide would be inappropriate here under this particular topic, and I still do, but wanted to leave the members here something to also consider before discounting what I was trying to suggest.
I he you won’t mind, B. and others.
But it may be something most are not even aware of and it is relevant.

Dr. Henry Lee, world renown forensic Scientist, clearly suspects the little girl’s family of being involved in her death
(“there was enough evidence to establish the probable cause level of proof needed to indict John and Patsy Ramsey of [sic], at least, obstruction of justice”).
Lee speculates that JonBenet may have been killed by accident, and that family members then staged an elaborate crime scene and concocted the bizarre ransom note to cover up the mishap.

    and…

“New Cold Case Review and Touch DNA

But let’s fast forward to 2009. The case has been returned to the Boulder PD and DNA is their current investigative weapon of choice. Regular DNA is obtained from stains, from hair, and from bodily fluids like semen. This is the type of DNA found, mixed with her blood, on the panties the victim was wearing the night she died. Unidentified male DNA was recovered from this stain; suggesting someone outside of the Ramsey family, outside the pool
of known suspects, and outside of the US National DNA Data Base maintained by the FBI that currently has samples from close to 7 million people. While no match has been made to date,

**Early on in this case, forensic scientist Henry Lee purchased a new pair of similar panties for examination and found that they too had unidentified male DNA.
Although different from that found on the victim’s underwear, it did suggest the possibility of contamination during the manufacturing or packing process, i.e., the unidentified male DNA might not have anything whatsoever to do with the murder.

I have just been reading comments on this site and have only written a response one other time. So I am unfamiliar with who Chris is but I definitely agree with what he has said about the Jonbenet Ramsey case. I still believe it was a family member that killed her–and I still think it was her mother. I thught everyone else had just dismissed the case since the Colorado police said it couldnt have been Patsy.

I really enjoy this site. So many talented and smart people and converstions.

    Hi, martha mann.

Thank you for your support in what I had to contribute about the JonBenet Ramsey case.
    I don’t see this often.

And although I happen to believe that the evidence is indicative of what I am suggesting, it’s yet to be proven, and therefore I, as well as many other investigators may in fact turn out to be wrong in the end.

I was only stating what the evidence said to me.

  6. thorswitch says:

Something I’ve found interesting in the articles I’ve read is that early in April, a handwriting expert – who claims Baggert as her mentor – did an analysis on 55 letters from Jack Tarrance (the man Denis Kaufman is claiming was the Zodiac – and who happens to be Kaufman’s step-father) comparing them to known samples from the Zodiac. She says that she found significant points of comparison and believes that Tarrence’s handwriting and the Zodiac’s match.

In the same article (http://cbs13.com/local/Handwriting.Claims.Of.2.974891.html) the reporter also spoke to Baggett who claims that the writing does NOT match. There’s no mention, however, that Baggett had been involved with another party making a claim to a Zodiac step-gather, nor that he is an executive producer on the documentary about her.

To me, the fact that Baggett would comment on someone else’s analysis in a case where he has a *huge* conflict of interest (if it were to turn out that Tarrance’s handwriting IS a match for the Zodiac, then it would likely have a serious negative impact on Perez’ documentary, which Baggett stands to make money from) basically strips him of any credibility I may have thought he had – especially in regards to this case.

Now, I’m not saying that Tarrance is the Zodiac or that his handwriting is a match. Just because Baggett’s analysis is highly suspect because he’s involved with Perez’ claims doesn’t mean that the other analyst is automatically right. He could be protecting his investment *and* she could also be wrong, you know?

Regardless of any other potential suspects, when it comes to Perez, with one disbarred lawyer, another lawyer who’s been fined by the SEC for insider trading, a handwriting expert who may well be acting unethically, the glasses that don’t actually match (and that she’s previously claimed belonged to her father,) her claim that she’d written at least one of the Zodiac letters – starting with “This is the Zodiac speaking” – but that she hadn’t realized her father was the Zodiac until she saw an AMW report on him in 2007, and her even more ludicrous claim that she’s the illegitimate daughter of John F. Kennedy, well, there’s just too much curd there for me to even remotely begin to believe her.

“A 16-YEAR hunt for a female serial killer has collapsed into farce after DNA that linked

Millions of euros and hundreds of thousands of hours spent searching for someone linked to
six murders and numerous other crimes have been wasted, AS THE PREDATOR DOES NOT EXIST.

Police are reeling with embarrassment. They now say they WERE FOOLED BY THE DNA OF A SINGLE FACTORY WORKER WHO MISHANDLED THE STERILE SWABS USED BY POLICE in Germany and other European countries.”

    and..

“Investigators now suspect that certain batches of cotton swabs were CONTAMINATED BEFORE DELIVERY, WHICH COULD HAVE HAPPENED DURING THE PRODUCTION PROCESS OR WHEN THE COTTON WAS PICKED.”

Well, so much for sterilization. Article mentions a DNA Quality Seal — how would that be accomplished? Does this info call into question corrupted swabs everywhere? Now that’s bothersome. To this day I still believe OJ was acquitted because of the tainted testimony of Furman, which made all evidence questionable — and not because OJ was innocent. Would this have the same effect on evidence?

  10. Jaelin says:

So since Ms Perez is full of poo, what about Jack Tarrance? Although circumstancial, Denis Kaufman’s evidence is pretty damning. It doesn’t seem as though anyone is taking him seriously, but I have yet to see anyone refute his case. Can anyone shed some light on this? Perhaps Chris?

  11. Christen Allen Iman says:

    RE: Post 60

    Hi, Jaelin.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any information on any recent developments with the evidence submitted to the FBI by Dennis Kaufman.
    Wish I did.

But the FBI has had ample time to do a thorough analysis on the evidence recovered.

The hood would have undoubtedly had some evidence of blood on it if it were worn the day of the Lake Berryessa attack.

The analysis may not yield a usable source of DNA after it’s degradation over 40 years.

But they would probably be able to determine if it were indeed human blood as opposed to animal blood.

Who knows, maybe technological advancements have come to the point where they will be able to recover some usable DNA for a profile comparison?

I still do not believe Jack tarrance was Zodiac.

  14. It’s very interesting. “Guy Ward Hendrickson” is composed of 18 letters, including repeats. If you look at the long-ago-”solved” Zodiac Z408 cipher, there is a garbled set of cipher letters that were never decoded by California police. Guess how many letters there are…..18.

As we are in fcat discussing Ms. Perez’s unfounded assertions.

“Perez contacted (Tom Voigt) more than a year ago, Voigt says. Perhaps her strongest claim was that her cousin is Jim Crabtree, the ex-husband of one of the known Zodiac victims. Were that true, and she could tie her father to that family, her story would become more plausible. Voigt, however, knows Crabtree. He called him. HE’D NEVER HEARD OF PEREZ.

“I think she assumed Crabtree was dead and couldn’t be checked out.”
    Said Tom Voigt.

    Hello, Ms. Hendrickson.
It was quite a surprise to visit this site and see that you had responded to your stepsister’s recent allegations here on Blink.
But, quite understandable considering the irreparable damage this can cause to his name sake.

I certainly hope everything comes to a head soon so your father’s name will no longer be connected to the Zodiac case.

    Hang in there, OK?.

A discovery by a former NSA analyst may be applicable to helping solve the Zodiac Killer case. It would require having the original Zodiac letters. At the very least, the following is an interesting read that discusses a very interesting forensic technique: http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/07/28/politics/politicalhotsheet/entry5194342.shtml

    Cipher Enthusiast.

Thanks for your recent contribution/article here regarding the Zodiac case.
Maybe someone somewhere will be able to figure something out about Zodiac’s identity someday.

It’s quite obvious that a good number of investigator’s in the law enforcement community were never able to do this.

But I honestly believe the answer lies in geographic profiling as well as a comparative analysis of the Zodiac’s behaviours with someone’s behaviours already in the suspect pool.
That being Arthur Leigh Allen, regardless as to what anyone else might think, believe or say… I know Zodiac’s identity was indeed ALA.

There’s obviously no altering of my perceptions on this point.

The article is a little vague as to who this person is. One of the Zodiac letters was postmarked in Fairfield, CA, the mid-point between Sacramento and San Francisco.

Certainly food for thought and an egregious miscarriage of justice if true.
