Columbia, Ill– Warrants outlining the chilling moments during the discovery of the bodies of Sheri Coleman, 31, her sons Garett 11, and Gavin 9, were unsealed today. Two letters containing threatening remarks that were sent to the Coleman home, were also released.

The search warrants were unsealed on a judges order in response to a Belleville News-Democrat request filed last week in Monroe County Circuit Court.

According to the court documents, contained within a report by Columbia Police Sgt. Jason Donjon, the first threat letter sent to the Coleman home, arrived January 1, 2009.

The contents reveal it was written to threaten an unnamed woman, presumably Sheri Coleman, and Chris Coleman’s apparent “protection” of her. Letter Excerpt:

“(Expletive)! Deny your God publicly or else! No more opportunities. Time is running out for you and your family.”

The letter, dated Jan. 1, referred to someone traveling to Asia, but doesn’t refer to anyone by name. Sheri Coleman participated in missionary trips to southeast Asia, including Cambodia.

“Have a good time in India (expletive)!” the letter concluded.

The second letter, dated April 27, 2009, also arriving at the Coleman home:

“I am giving you the last warning! You have not listened to me and you have not changed your ways. I have warned you to stop traveling and stop carrying on with this fake religious life of stealing people’s money.”

The letter referred to an unnamed woman.

“You think you are so special to do what you do protecting or think you are protecting her. She is a b*tch and not worth doing it. Stop today or else. I know your schedule. … This is my last warning. Your worst nightmare is about to happen!”

Undoubtedly, the most grisly revelations were contained within the report from the first scene responders of the Columbia Police Department. Detective Justin Barlows account from the scene:

“After searching the first level of the house and finding no one, we went upstairs to the second story. … As I walked up the stairs, I looked to my left and saw a white female, lying on her stomach,” Detective Justin Barlow wrote. Barlow found the body of Sheri Coleman naked, and face down.

“I saw she did not have any clothes on,” Barlow’s report said. “I yelled: ‘Columbia Police’ and she did not move. I called for an ambulance.’”

Barlow described red spray paint “…all over the walls on the first story.”

The officer said he tried to determine whether Sheri Coleman was alive, and noticed that rigor mortis had set in, which usually occurs within two to three hours, according to experts.

“I attempted to slightly roll her over in order to see her eyes and check for breathing. I noticed when I lifted her shoulder, her head and neck moved also. It appeared rigor mortis had set in. I noticed the skin of her chest and head appeared purple,” Barlow reported.

Within a few moments, according to Barlow’s report, a fellow officer shouted, “There are a total of three victims.”Barlow wrote in his report that he walked to the rear of an upstairs bedroom, “…and saw a younger boy lying on his bed. I checked for a pulse on the younger boy but found none. I also noticed his face appeared slightly purple.”

Also contained in the search warrants was a greeting card, found in the glove box of Colemans Green Ford Bronco, from a St. Petersburg, FL address that corresponds with that of the woman police have interviewed in their case against Chris Coleman. Also in the glove box, was an email for a bill for a Columbia PO Box from July, 2008, and a receipt for payment of same? (editors note: seems pretty dumb for someone who has gone to such an elaborate ruse to hide his crime to leave the proverbial smoking gun in his glove box. Perhaps Sheri confronted him with it and he forgot he stashed it in there, or perhaps he was unaware it was in there in the first place)

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source within the Investigative Team has confirmed to blinkoncrime that the orange twine, found by detectives at the western end of the Jefferson Barracks Bridge, as indicated in an affidavit filed by Detective Karla Heine, matches that of similar twine found on 4 hay bales in the rear of the Coleman home.

very sorry, I did not see this was already stated above. I am deeply saddened for the loved ones left behind. My prayers are with you.

People often wonder why didn’t Coleman just get a divorce. In Colemans sick mind, I’m sure he didn’t want to lose his job which was probably his top priority. To only kill just his wife would have meant two children to care for. I hate to convict someone without a fair trial but my God, everything points to Coleman. How could Coleman think that anyone would believe his “well check” would stand especially given how long he was gone and not being too far away. If Coleman was that concerned with his family, why didn’t he just leave Golds Gym and check on them himself?

There simply is no Justice to be served for three beautiful lives lost. Torture is not on the table and with something as sick as this, there really should be. Again, my deepest condolences to the family.

ok, I am sorry I keep posting, last one for today. What is wrong with people??!! How can anyone think the wife deserved this?? Looks to me, if found guilty, it was Coleman who was not happy in his marriage. and I’m sorry, but this other woman certainly did not help the situation. She KNEW Coleman was still married! so what if he said he’s getting divorced, the fact was… he was NOT divorced!! People really should learn and understand that Married people are off limits. period!!

If friends of Coleman couldn’t see a sick person, then clearly… how could the wife? Sheri had no way of knowing the death threats were from her husband and even if by some small fat chance she did, why would she remotley think he would go as far to kill her and her boys? I mean, this is the person she married. People can get angered and say hurtful things but doesn’t make any spouse want to believe the very worst in their partner. If Sheri had any indication her life and her boys life would end the way it did… duh.. MOST woman would have packed up and high tailed it out. Why didn’t Coleman just up and leave seeing as how he was in love with another? How selfish, how sick.. totally unbelievable!

    Josh, thank you for sharing.
Donna, until we, as individuals, learn to respect others, women and men will have affairs. It is very sad. IMO those that have affairs have no respect for themselves either.

The death threats from the past, why wasn’t it discovered where they orginated from prior to the murders? Looks like these threats were not taken too seriously up until now.. which is sad its too late.

Defense team has NO case at all.

Just wonder how much the GF knew about his plans..reading the details from the news -she had provided him with a cell phone # so he cannt be traced from his employer..really bothers me,that CC and her had credit cards (plural!) together..They had met all the time at places JM had to perform.. Who paid for her trips? CC is really dumb a@@@ to think that white-trash-looking HO stess would care for anything other than his money…He couldnt had charged all expenses on JM’s count cause the job was only thing going for him…The GF hoosier – she is no maternity type , just the opposite of Sheri ..she didnt want any kids ..just look at her pictires , @!@#$#$#!

Hope her relatives have some sense to make her testify for the procecussion, she obviously makes no sense after all

Comment to #43 – It was my understanding that Chris Coleman forged his wife’s signature on the deed, which is kind of stupid as to why he did that because it’s still a marital asset. If that is the case, she wouldn’t have known what he did. This guy is as cunning as Ted Bundy, or so he thinks. This guy gives me the creeps. And that “Me” character equally gives me the “shivers.”

Jury is going to be pulled from another county to ensure a fair trial. Interesting technique. http://www.bnd.com/2010/04/20/1222760/importing-jurors-is-uncommon-practice.html

Every time I look at the pictures of this lovely mom and her sweet boys, I feel such intense rage. These beautiful young lives were cut short because of one twisted, selfish idiot. I don’t know if the death penalty is on the table, but it sure seems fitting here.

  15. Columbiares says:

Guilty on all 3 counts!!! Thank God!! Thank you Blink for all you do!! Pam

I am thrilled to hear that- you have been a champion on this case!

Chris Coleman, is an evil man, there is no other explanation.

My prayers tonight are with Sheri, Gavin, Garrett, and the Weiss family.

Yes GUILTY and eligible for death penalty. But apparently will just get life in prison because death penalty will be abolished in July and commuted to life for those sentenced before then. Bummer, one more scum bag kept breathing.

Glad the family is at least seeing the only justice our world can render for the loss of their precious loved ones.

UPDATE! Sheri and the boys will FINALLY rejoin Sheri’s family. A Judge ruled today that their bodies can be relocated to HER family’s choice of burial location in the Chicago area. Murderer Chris Coleman’s family was fighting their relocation….WHY? Some people boggle my mind.

God Bless Sheri and her boys. They are headed home.
