Charlottesville, VA– Just passing the month mark, the disappearance of Morgan Harrington from the John Paul Jones Area located on the UVA campus, leaves us with more questions than answers. Part II

The Faces of Her Facebook

Help Find Morgan Harrington was developed by a few concerned individuals interested in spreading the word about Morgan’s disappearance and boasts over 30,000 members. Not all posts are welcome.

NelsonIn particular, a member by the name of Nelson Kane was recently banned for posting very detailed hypothesis scenarios that sparked a firestorm of interest in the self-appointed athlete scout. His posts were deleted at the request of Law Enforcement who admit tasking two officers with monitoring the web for such activity in Morgan’s case.

Additionally, Mr. Kane reached out to several individuals on facebook as well as the Harrington family’s findmorgan.com site in attempts to speak to the family directly and request an interview. The Harrington’s were made aware of the concern for such requests by sources close to the investigation.

He has recently changed his facebook drastically. Nkoldfacebook

Mr. Kane, a member of the family owning the longtime furniture store of the same name in Charlottesville is also a UVA alumni and season ticket holder. In addition to UVA, Kane also claims to have attended Virginia Tech on many of his many social networking profiles. He also fancies himself as somewhat of a Rock band critic.

On his site, nkscouting.com which he has maintained Nkane1since 2001, Kane chronicles his trips to scout mostly High School basketball and football athletes. In an effort to make his site more interesting (his words) he details the travel experience, routes, times and in some cases photos of his visits to High Schools mostly within a few hours driving distance.

Very early on in Morgan’s case, blinkoncrime.com explored the idea that perhaps the double murder of VT freshmen David Metzler and Heidi Childs on August 27th should be investigated as a possible link to Morgan’s case simply because they attend the school and Morgan and Heidi bare a remarkable resemblance to one another.

11370030_BG1

As far as very odd coincidences go, the location of Nelson Kane’s scouting foray the evening of the August 28th could not be more relevant.

Kane scouted the game at Jefferson Forest High School. The very Kane0828School Heidi Childs graduated from a year earlier. Unlike most of Kane’s other journal entries of his athlete accolades, there is no mention of his travel experience to or from Forest High School so it is unclear where he left from, when he got there, or when he returned home.

This is in no way an accusation that Mr. Kane had any involvement whatsoever in such a heinous crime, of course, but given his proclivities for leaving at all hours of the day and night his keen attention to travel detail and familiarity with the area: Perhaps he saw someone or something amiss in his trip that could help investigators.

Nk1017a

On Saturday October 17th, Kane scouts a game, listens to the UVA football game on his way home and is home in plenty of time to make the concert.

Blink how do you know he was at the concert you ask? I do not. I do know he knows alot about security at the JPJ Arena, how to navigate the different lots near Uhall, and of course that there are blue portable lavatories next to Lanigan Field. His posts from the Charlottesville Daily Progress below:

Roar, susanm, that is a heck of a harrowing tale. Thank goodness you had your wits about you! Scary world out there.

  2. suz says:

Yeah, where DID that broken/torn purse strap rumor come from? If it’s true, and LE has said “the purse showed no signs of struggle’” what’s the deal? Is that a strategy? Ineptitude? ??

  3. Watchtower says:

LE are making themselves look like Barney Fife. If I lived in that area I would be embarrassed that no legit news site, paper, reporters, etc are doing anything to seek answers/exert pressure except to accept the standard “LE must know more than the public and are doing their best”. If they did what are they waiting for? To give people more time to cover up and concoct stories? It’s bullshit. Waiting for a POI to cop to it and spell it out for them? Yeah right. What are they covering up? Who are they covering for? And why is nobody demanding answers? Blink does a good job here trying to get to the facts (as well as the people who read/post comments on this site) and it’s greatly appreciated since you can’t get actual info anywhere else. But why is nobody else doing it?

I wish I had an answer Watch- I have actually spoken to some of the local reporters, they are sharp. MSM is very different in how they assign coverage.

I think LE said the area or location where the purse was found showed no signs of struggle.

  5. starbucks says:

Just to let you know, as of today, LE’s story has not changed:

“Although officials continue to conduct the search with the methodology of a criminal investigation, Geller said, police have yet to identify any suspects.

‘We still do not have evidence to prove or disprove that Morgan fell victim to foul play,’ she said.”

    http://www.cavalierdaily.com/2009/12/01/athletes-questioned-in-missing-girl%E2%80%99s-case/

Infuriating. That article says that she was denied re entry because she did not have her tic stub. AAAAH

  6. fish says:

blink, in response to your answer on post #818…i hope i am not reading between the lines but are you saying that this person has knowledge in forensics?!? as in someone who holds down a job in this field or a field that is closely related. i.e. emt, law enforcement; of some type and there are many strains, medicine or even a doctor, lawyer or indian chief? i find that LE would know that they must get in front of the POI, first and foremost and maybe it has been difficult. look at the example of drew petersen.

  7. starbucks says:

    Re: 850

Well that is the story UVa probably wants out there. I also believe the quote from Geller was necessary to let the community know that the basketball players are not suspects (because there are none).

  8. questioner says:

    Blink -

Or could it have been Dee they were speaking to? Do we have ANYONE that is able to actually place MORGAN there, or is it just the purse and it’s contents minus the cell phone battery?

UNequivocally the bball players spoke to Morgan. Dee is on tape inside the venue at the same time.
    B

  9. mosaic says:

#818 — “True, but your assuming they came forward. What if a witness gave LE that information and confronted with same, the individual would be a sitting duck to lie about that. Also, anyone with forensics knowledge would know to deny someone was in your vehicle when they actually were is not smart.”
    B

Yep. Let’s hope the pressure of keeping quiet starts to wear on this person. As Morgan’s mother said, “It’s a big secret to have to carry.”

  10. fish says:

are you kidding me?!!!!!! Morgan was denied reentry because she did not have her ticket stub?!!!!! come on…which is it???? maybe corrine geller needs to do some research on this subject and let us all know the answers and the policies of JPJA and UVA that sets these policies! maybe i do not know the policy of reentry but that not my job, man! but it is yours now, corrine!

Fish- she is doing her job, and the ticket issue was not her quote.
Respectfully, I do not want to see LE attacked in any way. Fairly criticized based on facts, ok please?

  12. wpgmouse says:

    from suz:
“I thought Gil was just being morbid when she asked, “Morgan, are you a skeleton now, too?”. Just mortifying to consider.”

    hello suz

You know, I got the feeling several times that Gil Harrington was speaking directly to the “known male” with words and phrases that may have sounded strange to us, but had meaning to him.

    caps are mine:

“Morgan, are you a SKELETON now, TOO” was definitely one, and
“You can be REMEMBERED as a HERO of a terrible situation. Things have gotten out of hand and you can be the one that is REMEMBERED as the man who SAVED Morgan Harrington.”

I agree she may have been speaking to “someone else”. Even in the event she was speaking literally from an acceptance perspective I don’t know, but I will say, in general, medical professionals have a tendancy to deal in the practicle in that regard as opposed to shying away from it.
    B

  13. Josie says:

At this time I feel so disgusted. Another statement from LE and still nothing new. What was the point? It’s like they say the same thing and just word it differently…

And now “no ticket stub” is the reason she was not readmitted?

That is not true, clueless as to who wrote that.
    B

  14. mosaic says:

‘We still do not have evidence to prove or disprove that Morgan fell victim to foul play,’ she said.”

Anything is still possible, then. How frustrating this must be for her parents who are torn between grieving and hoping.

i apologize blink. i was thinking about bf or maybe someone involved. something caught my eye on a social networking site and now gone. it was just me thinking outloud. i respect your thought process but do not want to seem like i’m into a “blame game” where there does not need to be one. just want some resolution and justice.
i too, am upset about why ss’s bf gets to be protected while the girls are all known. what’s the big deal on that?
also, your comment on medical professional dealing with the practical…right on target on that one!

I understand. What caught your eye?

Thanks Blink. You’re saying that this segment was just reported wrong? I’m relieved to hear that.

It would be good if we could hear what the person fitting Morgan’s description approached the BB players about. I assume that this is very important to the investigation and that is why it is not being released. I hope that something happens soon for the sake of Morgan’s family. I can’t even imagine trying to live their lives during all this.

A parent’s worse fear, that something like this could happen to their child.

Tonight my thoughts are with Cassandra Morton’s family. May they be able to find some kind of comfort. I feel so sad and overcome with grief for all of those who have missing children.

I say the Harrington’s would be stage 5 . Using the Kübler-Ross model

The VSP update : believe them when they say they have NOTHING !

Access to the skyline can be made after hours certain times of year / no fee to rip rap overlook .

My civil or criminal mind would never go left ( North) to skyline, either casually or in a panic unless the person were familiar with the area . South on Blue Ridge would be the comfort choice in that area . when the choice has to be made at the entrance to the parkway…I say RIGHT !

  20. fish says:

I am referring to the initials you left.

  21. sue says:

Again, there is no evidence of a crime. You have to link the suspect to the victim with a criminal intent.

Even with a body, an arrest could be a long time coming while an investigation is conducted.

I actually am able to glean some insight from Ms. Geller’s statement.

This is what they are waiting for. Most likely, at least one person, maybe more, are under surveillance. The message I get is either the basketball players know who you are or what kind of car you drive, or Morgan told them she was meeting so and so, etc.

OR, all roads end with the basketball players and Ms. Geller thought she might remind them and everyone else of that fact.

I agree there are folks under surveillance.
    B

  22. wpgmouse says:

With this latest LE statement, public interest is going to wane even further. Is this perhaps, what they want.
Sorry, but I don’t understand what the point of keeping the findmorgan family blog/site up is about any more.
As a poster, I am not personally nor do I have the right to be upset or disappointed that nary a peep is coming from LE or the family, but I am concerned about the 1600+ searchers who came out in tremendous support, and what impact this may have on future missing person cases.
You bet I have some “feelings” about the friends, the unnamed male, and the lawyering up. Do they come from extremely powerful families? I mean “extremely” powerful? Are any of these “friends” so-called untouchable?

    wpg-
Profound and true. That is the issue, that is omnipotent in mp cases.

2nd Question, in a matter of speaking, possibly a few. More important that they believe themselves to be.

Fontina/Romaine Pecorino on the menu today.

  23. susanm says:

so ,could geller’s statements really be literally true,no foul play,so her camera is missing ,probably from her purse, her purse is broken and found in a parking lot,was there cash in the purse when found unless there was cash, how can they not rule out robbery, robbers dont necessarily take credit cards, but they will take the cash and camera, and throw the purse.to me the purse is evidence of foul play.

    Not if she dropped it.
Important to note, what they believe and what they can PROVE may be 2 different things. In that event, the burden is on LE to say what they CAN BACK UP.
    B

  24. cvilleconcerned says:

Sorry Blink and forum followers to rehash something old, but I just had a thought.
The Copley Bridge observations…we all are stuck on the idea that Morgan stayed on the non-sidewalk side of the bridge. Perception wise, the bridge looks like a regular street/road when you are on it. Now maybe she stayed on that side for a bit after leaving the RV lot and realizing there wasn’t a walkway ahead, decided to then cross back to the pedestrian side. She would have to stop to look back at cars coming at her; maybe even put out a hand to slow an oncoming vehicle…this gets perceived as HH;(remember all eyewitnesses were having a good time; they were preoccupied). In actuality she then crosses over and is in with other pedestrians; by the end of the bridge there is a Jersey Barrier for ped. safety; one would not see her clothing from the waist down. This would explain vanishing from Bridge scenario.

  25. wpgmouse says:

    Watchtower,

    Well said.

  26. susanm says:

what would be the possible reasons for not asking the fbi to join?

  27. radiogirl says:

873 that is a good question….why no fbi yet?maybe state police feel they will stick with their …watch and learn for a while.

  28. questioner says:

    Watchtower

More over, why are there so many women and girls still missing from this area? Look at the Doe Network, see just how many there really are, and some have been attributed to the I-29 Stalker, but Rice’s DNA weren’t found on any of those women. So, they have a real problem here. It seems like no real leads were in those other murders either. It’s time that LE start giving some real facts, or Morgan is just going to be one more of the many!

UVA…………..UVA………UVA

Forgive my frustration people but something stinks here . I said it day 2 . You can, as I have , re- enter JPJA ! No video , updates that equal to DOG squeeze . Those friends know more or I have to accept they abandoned Morgan , a ticket stub ??????? WHY DID MORGAN NOT HAVE HER TICKET STUB ! Could someone not have produced it .

I still cling to Gil’s words or her blog . No mention of the little darling’s lately !

Something is terribly wrong here . I once reference UVA and affiliates as a multi million dollar empire , I have been corrected …..BILLION .

  30. Kelly J says:

Sorry so vague Blink. No need for you to post this one! We’re probably just watching too much Criminal Minds here. For all we know cell phone and witnesses have led to a POI already. If not we were thinking that if Cassandra went missing the Saturday night previous to Morgan at about the same time, perhaps a limo driver would have had opportunity in that time block also—SK? We hope that LE has looked into where Cassandra was at the time of her disappearance to see if there is a thread of relevance to Morgan’s case. It was just a thought. A limo driver would also probably be able to tell her to meet by the bridge due to liablility or other reasons without seeming too creepy. Tough to get a feel for this case with so little knowledge of facts, we’ll go back to reading!

  31. fish says:

Just an opinion; not based on fact.
I think people here are quicker to report their missing children and family members. Most of those who disappeared here did have good family ties and were supposed to be accounted for somewhere by somebody. Many other places people are victims because nobody cared about them enough or at all to even report the loss.

  35. Counselor4u says:

    Blink…
I thought I saw the name Bryson or Bryan (cannot recall) associated with this group of friends. Can you confirm that?

  36. Counselor4u says:

IMO the Harrington’s need to hire their own team of high tech private investigators and a team of big gun (out-of-town) attorneys and go after those ‘untouchables’ who may be impeding justice for their daughter. The Harrington’s have been too nice and I think certain others have taken advantage of their patience and gentility.

I wonder: what prior escalating issue(s) “things” could have gotten out of hand that Gil would have knowledge of? Could someone known to the family have been infatuated with Morgan, even stalked her?

And as far as being “the one” = out of several? Out of many? It sounds like Gil is trying to soothe a man with self-esteem issues–maybe someone with a psych or criminal who had unburdened himself to the H family, or Dr. H. in a professional capacity?

Hunch here, so maybe it’s nothing, but was Morgan involved with any guys in motorcycle clubs?

I decided to do a crime search for Charlottesville — on 10-17-09 (sound familiar?)near Emmet Rd. on Swanson Dr., which is near JPJ, there was a sexual assault, foreceable rape — when you click on this link, it takes you to a map and then a listing of crimes — on the map, look near 250 intersection with Emmet — it is to the north of the arena area — you have to click on the “fist” and it pops up: >>Assault – SWANSON DRIVE, CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – 10/17/2009 SEX OFFENSES FORCEABLE RAPE<< This is only a couple of miles, if that far, from the arena — hmmm

Nobody ever said the FBI was not involved? There are different status’s as to how the FBI can be involved. They are not involved in this case in an investigative support role whatsoever, the VSP is lead.

  43. suz says:

cindy, thanks, i would love confirmation that the purse strap was broken. but then it would make me mad that we didn’t even know THAT. and it would make me mad that LE said no sign of struggle if they only meant no sign in the grass or gravel of the parking lot, even tho the condition of the purse itself might be a sign of struggle.

  44. suz says:

wpgmouse, i guess Gil could be sending messages to the perp, but that skeleton comment was apropos of Gil saying that no one was eating and they were all becoming skeletons, IIRC. (when i read it, it made me think of the radically different reaction/interpretation had any of the ants said it about caylee.)

hmmm. I sure hope the investigation is on track and gaining ground.

  45. DTA says:

I really think this case has NOT been handled well at all. If you compare this to the Drew Peterson case, LE was not acting this way. They thought he was guilty, they did not come out and say it but several things did come out. Many interviews were done by the media and the family really pressed. I just do not get any of this and I really do think that Ms. Geller is being honest when she says they have no suspects. I think the Harrington’s are too kind. They need to press more maybe even hire their own PI. So much time has passed and nothing. It is as though this time has been wasted. I am not trying to be negative about LE, many in my own family are in LE as detectives, that is why I really think this is botched or maybe the concern was not there at first. Sorry to sound this way but I just want some peace for the Harrington’s they deserve it. This is so unfair.

  46. sweetpea says:

    Blink-

Knowing you and your team, I was wondering what you know about Cassandra Morton?

What did she do for a living? I realize that she and Morgan are
of similar stature, but are there any other similarities?

I find odd that her family states that she always kept in touch with
them, but they did not report her missing for almost a month.

From what I can tell, there are no similarities between the 2 young ladies past that of stature and of course their “missing” status’s.
    B

  47. sue says:

Well, I am going to got out on a limb here and speculate that Morgan did know one of these basketball players and perhaps had a previous relationship with him.

They did not come forward. They were outed. I thought it was Sene that was suspended and Tucker that left for good.

Highly suspicious…. I wonder if he is still in school?

Jamil has been at every game in street clothes, and recently told a reporter he will be returning to the team this week, that’s all I know.
    B

  48. sweetpea says:

I am among so many others here on Blink On Crime that have been seeking answers for this beautiful young woman.

To the point that have lost track of what and where I have read certain information.

I do however remember reading that these universities are very
well versed in protecting their image/reputation from anything
that could be perceived as bad press.

To the degree that they will review the issue and if determined
to be bad, they will do whatever it takes to cover up the
situation: rape of a student or in this case maybe even death.
Remember there is no proof that Morgan has perished only missing.

If I remember the quote correctly they referred to the victim as a
    “Throw Away”.

After reading Geller’s statement. I am beginning to think that UVA has determined “Morgan” to be a throw away.

Even with the family connections these things are weighed out.

  49. Jane says:

I still believe if Morgan was at the concert among her good friends that the one and only thing that would have pulled her away would have been a young man. Probably someone who was a real player, nice looking, ladie’s man – BAD BOY type that noone can have. I would also imagine all her friends would know him and feelings she might have had for him. I was also curious as to VT Campus. I was wondering if anyone has paid attention the all the rumors swirling around since Ms. Harrington went missing. There could be some substance to what is being said. Also, I hope the campus is doing all it can to keep Ms. Harrington’s case alive and that they have an active tip line.

  50. notJMUfan says:

from a student at VT: “There is not much being either talked among the students or being promoted in the way of keeping info on the forefront”. . . 2nd: we had a family member attending college several states away. He was 23 (started college late due to some problems which he “dealt with”). We had no idea that after 2 years of being clean, he had returned to drug use. His friends there all knew, employees of his college knew what was going on, tried to help, didnt notify the family. He overdosed and was left in an location by “friends” who had been with him that night and who then called the police anonymously to go to the location. Unfortunately, they arrived too late. Point being: as many have said, you dont always know what is going on w/ a family member. The friends would know. We did find out some info after the fact, but it was only when WE pursued leads, called people, etc. Folks did NOT volunteer info that they had, including “friends” that came to the funeral. It was shocking to us, but after believing for awhile that foul play MUST have been the cause, we were forced to acknowledge that our family member’s demise was entirely his own unforunate mistake.

You have a source link for that? Who are you talking about?
