Annie gave a person Zanex from her prescription, a person she knew was known to lie, so she chose to believe the reason this known liar used, to get a pill from her. Did Annie give her more, or did she ever count her pills?

Annie talked about how Caylee would throw a screaming tantrum if Casey left her to go into another room, and how Annie herself was not well accepted by Caylee as company when her mother left the room. What was Annie thinking, giving Casey even a single Zanex? How many toddler doses in a single adult dose pill– probably more than a couple of them.

It’s possible that Annie also could have been covering for Casey taking one of her pills, by saying that she gave one to her.

  4. Kleat says:

(of course I’m not saying that there is actually something called a ‘toddler’ dose, or some level acceptable for use in a 50 lb (NOT!) 34 month old Caylee. But Casey could calculate and give her a half or quarter dose.)

Laura was/is a person that manipulates things to go her way. I have not seen Laura for several years however she was an attactive gal that would use her looks to get what she wanted. In reading the blogs there are claims she was in law enforcement but no proof. I know for a fact she aspired to get into law. She would use her contacts / looks to get in ride along programs with Police in Lexington & Paris, KY. I have heard stories about her getting cozy with some of the cops on the ride alongs. To ones surprise you could turn on the local news and catch her in the background with the local cops.
In regards to why she would be involved with this case, I have no idea why, but I can take a guess. Laura loves drama and probably got sucked in, hence felt compelled to go to FL to get herself involved in the case. I would not trust or believe her statement or anything said on the stand. I would go as far as saying that she is looking for a payday from somebody.

    Blink –

It appears that the foreclosure hearing for George and Cindy has been cancelled for tomorrow. Any news on what’s going on with their house? Have they managed to save it?

  8. Sal says:

And if they did save their home, did it come from money that was paid by CBS for this latest round of pictures?

  9. Joan(Canada) says:

Thanks guys, off for a read. Good info about Laura, if it’s true.

  10. Karen Bartholomew says:

Xanax belongs to a class of medications called benzodiazepines. They are considered anti-anxiety medications and include Valium, Ativan and a few others. I know that valium also has muscle relaxant properties and is used in conjunction with other medications to stop seizures. Ironically, they are quite addictive and can cause seizures when stopped suddenly after prolonged use. They are a (controlled substance)schedule IV medication.
Opinions differ as to how addictive they are, though I personally wouldn’t wish that particular withdrawl on anyone. Rather he**ish. I have never heard of them causing hyper-activity in anyone let alone someone who happens to be Bi-polar??? (Re: your next post- could cause?- never heard or read of that either) I would be interested to know where you (Leslee S) got that information. I do agree that they can cause people to act in a manner that they wouldn’t otherwise, much like alcohol.
Of course, I don’t know if Casey used this or any other medication on Caylee, but it seems far more likely than Chloroform if she did it more than once.
Annie seemed very reluctant to admit that she gave even one pill to anyone for good reason, I believe it is a felony and she was obviously advised of that prior to her deposition.
PS. I am a long time fan of this site and look forward to reading it daily.

  11. Leslee S. says:

    Karen B.:

I researched zanax years ago for a friend with a bi-polar daughter very much like Casey. Zanax can hype a bi-polar person, that is in their ‘high’ stage, to behave like someone on crack. I don’t know if I can find the information but I guarantee you that I did not make this up! By the way, if Casey received any zanax from Annie, she could very well have stolen it from her.

  12. Leslee S. says:

    Karen B:

I will research that when I can. But I’ll ask you this…..have you ever known anyone that reacts opposite to what a medication should do? It does happen b/c I am one of those people.

  13. Ragdoll says:

    Thanks for your response Bees.

I agree, or am at least hoping there is more daming evidence we haven’t seen. I’m just curious to know what others think about ‘what’ is going to seal her fate…..what evidence, that we know of, will put her away, or kill her.

  14. Kleat says:

Leslie, you think this might be a reason for Casey’s behaviour, at least ‘defense-tactic-wise’ if the exculpatory evidence fails to materialize?

  15. Leslee S. says:

    Kleat:

Not really,I just cannot see zanax coming in anywhere. Didn’t all the zanax speculation come in because zanax is referred to sometimes as zanny? Let’s not forget the old childrens’ book with a nanny called zanny. Casey could have gotten the name from that book. Who knows??? I will say this, if Casey ever got zanax, I have the feeling that she would have taken it from Cindy’s stash. JMHO

  16. cherylz says:

Hi all! Great site! I don’t comment much. But, in Re: to Caylee…not sure of physical abuse, but she was surely emotionally abused and neglected…not by the g’parents but by her “mother”. And yes Bees…the video in the Nsg. Home disturbs me. Caylee looks frightened- she clings to her Great Grandpa…a man by CA’s accounts Caylee did not see much of. Those pics from TL’s phone on 6/2 are also disturbing to me. Caylee looks bloated, out of it and the round, red mark under her eye…I don’t like the looks of that. And, 3 pieces of duct tape say to me anger and rage. The mouth AND nose are not the only orifices that leak once one is dead. I view the tape as the murder weapon.

  17. Heidi says:

Cindy’s stash is right! Being a nurse and having sticky fingers… I wouldn’t doubt she’d have medications that may or may not have been prescribed to her.

  18. Sal says:

It seems that George and Cindy are going to mediation on the Foreclosure:

    05/19/2010 Notice of Cancellation
    05/20/2010 Order Scheduling Mediation STIPULATED

  19. Kleat says:

Leslie, but Zanax did come in. Casey did get one Zanax pill given to her as admitted by Annie Downing under oath in a deposition. Annie had a prescription for anxiety, Casey knew it. This is aside from Casey’s statements about being able to ‘hit’ Annie up for Zanax.

We also know that Casey was familiar with street names for prescription drugs, as per Tracey’s interview.

  20. Kleat says:

Sal, Casey said she was getting the house.

It’s in the realm of possibility that if Casey were to be aquitted, that she would be in a position to kick in the media, movie, story opportunitites and be in a good financial position quickly. If the home were at risk, she could swing a deal with her parents to pay off the house and put it in her name.

(remembering what the Florida university law school director interview from early on, that indicated the tremendous amount of money that could be gained from this story, and he said deals would not be in place early, but they would all be set up and possible for the future)

  21. KB says:

Well, Leslee S and everyone I’m not here to argue with anyone on my favorite site. I value your contributions as well as most others too much. I just have never heard of Xanax (Alprazolam)causing that reaction in anyone. But almost anything is possible and yes, I have heard of people having a (paradoxical) reaction to a medication. When one of my sons was a baby he had an especially bad reaction to a cold med, and stayed up all night screaming and crying after being given one-half dose of something known for causing sleepiness.
As for Casey stealing, sure, it seems more likely than not, so we agree there. One of the things I don’t understand about Casey and others like her, is why or how they think they are so smart when they take things from people or lie to them and “get away with it”. You know I (or any of you) could set out to manipulate a friend and be successful it’s just that we don’t even try to do that. It can’t be that difficult when people love or like you. So how does that make her smart? Well I guess that is why she is where she is. But I’m just saying it’s a whole different mindset but wouldn’t require much intelligence.
Parenting can be very stressful and difficult when you are attempting to do your absolute best. What mother hasn’t been pushed to the brink-many times actually. But not in the situation Casey was in with Caylee. Cindy has said she gave Caylee her baths, did the laundry, watched her a great deal, paid for everything. Any other parents on this site have that much assistance? I’m not sure what Casey’s responsibilities were but Cindy probably cooked and shopped at least some of the time, and cleaned etc. Cindy also worked full-time. And we know George took care of the lawn (all kidding aside, that is work.)

Well that’s all for now I’m just waiting on the next hearing and Blink’s next article.

  22. KB says:

Caylee does look rather frightened of something in the nursing home photo with her Great-Grandfather, but in my opinion she is not a bit scared of him. Think about this, look at how relaxed and comfortable her body looks. No one could make a toddler or small child lean back onto him if she didn’t want to. Have you ever tried to get a babe her age to sit on Santa’s lap if they don’t want to? Not going to happen. Maybe it is just that environment or being tired. She looks sleepy and worried to me, but not afraid of great-grandpa. Hard to say.

I can’t see her using Xanax or Bi-Polar as a defense as millions use this type of anti-anxiety medication, and are Bi-polar and they don’t kill their precious babies. Such a sad, sad, situation. A waste you might say, huge waste.

  23. Leslee S. says:

    Kleat:

I know that Zanax did come up. I just do not think that Caylee over-dosed on zanax, although, I admit to going back & forth on that one. Your reminding us of Casey’s statement of ‘hitting’ up Annie for some zanax does make me think that Casey got some kind of ‘high’ from the drug, rather than it making her ‘mellow’…..hmmm.

  24. Leslee S. says:

    Kleat:

Haven’t the Anthonys & Conman pretty well indicated a book deal without coming out & admitting it? Don’t forget that Dominic was in on that book deal trip to N.Y. I’m hoping that SAO convinced Dominic that lots of future dollars aren’t worth a prison sentence!

The mediation of the Anthony home story– quote: “The bank began the foreclosure process in February. At the time, court documents showed the lender claimed the Anthonys owed $121,000. They hadn’t paid their $785 mortgage payment since June and were past due more than $7,000.”

So– what of the timing of the lastest new CBS photos of baby Caylee?? Wasn’t the original deal for 20 grand split up not only between George and Cindy, but also paid in installments, upfront, then again a payment as the story 48HRS aired, and why not again now, as these photos are published in time for the Anthony home mediation? Another few thousand maybe to cover some of the 7 grand past due?

  26. Kleat says:

Leslie, 500 more docs requested, so another doc dump coming soon. The state has left the door open for chemical restraints to have been used– one can only home that whatever this woman did to her child for her own convenience without care about the concept of humane treatment, that she did help, inadvertantly or otherwise, to avoid any suffering of her own child. I don’t think she would care enough, that’s the concern. Hopefully Zanax or something other, would have minimized any fear or suffering.

  27. Kleat says:

New motion filed within the hour– defense says state didn’t provide enough info on the aggravating factors. (WESH headline)

“In a motion filed Thursday morning, the defense said the state failed to provide any indication of the evidence it intends to rely on to prove the existence of the aggravating factors.
Prosecutors listed as many as five aggravating factors they may rely on last week, but the defense said that’s not good enough.

The defense also demanded more discovery evidence from Oak Ridge Laboratory concerning the so-called sniff tests done on the air in Anthony’s car.”

lol, you saw that coming, right Kleat?
    B

And 500 pages of discovery to be released tomorrow as per public request.

  28. Leslee S. says:

Wesh TV, Orlando, says that the state is releasing at least 500 pages of evidence as early as tomorrow!

  29. Pamela says:

Zanax has been popular with the “club” culture. If any of you are old enough to remember how people used a tranq/sedative called quaalludes popular in the70s & 80′s, they would take one, drink a couple of beers and have the feeling of a really good “drunk” for hours and hours, with no ill side effects the next morning of actually drinking enough alcohol to get the same effect. They were withdrawn from the U.S. marketplace in 84 for there misuse and it’s potential dangers.
Zanax was popular in the 90′s to today for the same reason, they called it a “Zanny Bar” because it’s rectangular shaped and scored into 4ths, which many kids did and again drank a few beers for a long term “high” without the next day hangover. I’m thinking that Casey also enjoyed this “benefit” of Zanax. Also, for Annie, there are for more effective anti anxiety meds, without the dangers of zanax available but many young people will insist those meds don’t work just so they can get the zanax, even to the point of not actually having any real anxiety issues, just for the high. I’m not saying this is what Annie did, but typically people who really need the med because of that level of anxiety, don’t give out their pills since they are mostly strictly prescibed. Of course we all also know there are doctors out there that will write anything for you, as long as you pay

And you’re just in time for the barage of new demands on the state and Oakridge, some of it downright hypocritical–” waaaAAAAA!! …. the state didn’t notify us that they were complying with our and the courts demands for the factors which they are relying on as aggravators for the DP and they gave it to the media before us!!!! UNFAIR!!! WAAAA!!!”

They never wanted a list, they wanted the state’s case!!

(what’s the defense going to argue to the judge– “the state did this because we did it to them multiple times so they are playing childish games in our court???!”

That would go right over Judge Belvin Perry’s head…. right!!! ;)

  37. Kleat says:

Will the judge make the state PROVE their agg factors or confine them to a single exclusive theory of each? (ie: use of chemical restraint or no use of chemical restraint– we are talking about this coming into play only should she be found guilty of agg child abuse in the murder of her daughter).

starting on p. 480. She is asked “did you get money for selling any pictures of Caylee?” Cindy says $10000 from CBS 48 Hours. Here’s her quote: “I’m not getting that much. 3000 goes to Brad and then I have to pay taxes on it. So roughly $5000 for some pictures and videos.”
It’s not until a little later when she is asked if there is any other money from the media or any other contracts for future money that she replies: “Yeah. I believe there is another $10,000 at some point to come. I believe that contract is also through CBS. And
it’s just the second portion of the $20,000 that was negotiated, that Brad negotiated with them.”"

How do they afford a Mediator??? Why don’t they just PAY up the mortgage instead of paying attorneys to fight it?
Why should they be granted a mortgage reduction??? They have the ability to pay …. they have just chosen not to pay.
I believe they are trying to ride it out until the murder trial is over, next year — then they expect to rake in BIG BUCKS on TV, MOVIE, BOOK deals.

How do they afford a high priced real estate attorney??!! Conway is NOT representing them in the foreclosure case.

  43. Kleat says:

Doesn’t it make sense that Conway would broker a deal that is to his client’s best tax advantage? That is, not all in 2009, but spread out. The program aired in 2009, but now we have more photos used from the ‘licencing fees’ paid, that brings the income into a new tax year.

  44. Kleat says:

Can someone negotiate a new value of the home to reflect the depressed market values of the recent years? How can they swing that and could this be the reason they didn’t pay and forced the situation they are in now to try to get a new lower end value and payment scheme?

  45. Thinker says:

In the last Hearing, the Defense repeatedly said they wanted to know the State’s THEORY for the aggravating factors, and how they plan to PROVE those factors.
To which Ashton replied that the State is not obligated to share their THEORY of the case with the Defense, as their “theory” is “work product”. I don’t think the Judge will force the State to reveal their work product to the Defense.

cherylz, I agree with you and Ashton (and I think the ME). The tape was the murder weapon.

KB, I agree. I don’t think Caylee was at all frightened by her great-grandpa at the nursing home. I think what’s troublesome about it is that she really didn’t know him very well and yet seems to be hugging close to him for protection or assurance, or ? something? That’s just my read of it. It’s heartbreaking that she would look for comfort or protection from someone she didn’t know very well.

Leslee, I do think that the Anthonys & Baez are behind some of these outrageous things JUST to keep the story alive & hot?

No, Caylee seemed comforted by the G’Grandpa…she appeared to cling to him, as her eyes darted about her. She even asked “are you tired PaPa?” God bless her.
Bees, I wish I rem. the ME’s exact words, but the tape in her professional opinion was applied b4 decomposition began.

  50. Thinker says:

My impression of Caylee leaning against Great Grandpa Plesea’s chest at the nursing home, is that GGpa was singing the “Sunshine” song with Caylee (you can hear him on the video) and Caylee had her ear against his chest feeling the vibration from his vocal chords. I do not see fear in her eyes. Cindy was there with her (not Casey), and Cindy may have said something to catch Caylee’s attention when Caylee’s eyes are darted to the side.
