VAN DER SLOOT CHARGED IN HOLLOWAY CASE, MURDER IN CHILE

BREAKING NEWS

Birmingham, AL– Joran Van Der Sloot, suspect in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, and now the murder of Peruvian woman Stephany Flores Ramirez, is facing Federal extortion charges in Alabama.

On or about May 10, 2010, A person known to Mr. Van Der Sloot wire transferred $15,000 from an Alabama bank to a financial institution in the Netherlands.

The complaint, who does not name the party who dealt with Van Der Sloot directly, goes on to say that the funds were a deposit to secure the location of Natalee Holloway’s remains and the circumstances in which she died.

Extortion

It would appear, given the date of the filing today, that Joran Van Der Sloot was the focus of a Federal sting.

Who was he attempting to extort?

Sources, willing to speak to blinkoncrime.com only on the condition of anonymity, suggest the victim of Van Der Sloot’s extortion plot was none other than Natalee’s mother, Beth Holloway.

Ms. Holloway has been unavailable for comment since the news of Joran’s involvement with the Peruvian murder broke, and has not answered requests for interviews.

Stephany Flores Ramirez was murdered in her hotel room on the 5th anniversary of the disappearance of Natlee Holloway.

Is it possible he found out about the sting, and snapped to get back at the mother of the very girl who many believe also met her end in his hands?

The inconceivable in this case is becoming more conceivable by the moment.

Blink, sorry if you and I are NOT on the same page. Sorry But how am I out of line here? Truth is the truth. Is that NOT what your sight is about? I am calling it like it is. I am truly sorry if you do not agree. Really sorry. I totally respect you but, comeon now. Can you honestly NOT agree with me? Give me a break! Please. How many times has the Feds and or cops sat by and did nothing? They already had the evidence they needed to arrest him for the charges in Alabama. WHY DID THEY WAIT? WHY? They could have arrested him way back in early may Blink. From what i understand is that they already had the warrent to ARREST HIM. Are you gonna tell me that at the very least this MURDERER should have been under a tight EYE? Give me a break. When is enough is enough here blink. They only thing I see out of line here is ONCE AGAIN THE FEDS! I’m sorry!

Chi- the only thing you have seen is an indictment- how can you possibly make such accusations?

I dont see the big picture, indeed, but I woudnt judge the Feds whatsoever. I think that was a great sting and it was comming to bite Joran pretty soon.It would have been awesome to get Joran for extortion, anything to wipe that nasty smirk out of his face…Joran slipped way too many times for last 5 years. They/we were closing up on him, for sure. Its unfortunate what happened in Peru, no doubts about it.
I red somewhere than if Peru considers Natalie’s case, he can actually get a longer sentence. I would applaud thatm.

So people.com is reporting that JVS is denying involvement in Stephany’s death. No surprise there. Anita Van der Sloot is quoted as saying she’s shocked by the allegations. No coddling there (I’d love to be the CEO of sarcasm inc.).

Indeed. I’m shocked too. He has the worst luck in meeting young ladies who disappear or are found brutally murdered just hours after being seen with them.

what i don’t understand is that if she knew who he was, her friends knew who he was and i’m sure some casino employees knew who he was and with her having such a prominent father…somebody must have known who she was…why did she go off alone with him in the first place and why didn’t her friends or someone immediately pipe up that SHE WAS ASSOCIATING WITH HIM, never mind LEAVING ALONE WITH HIM! maybe he caught up with her on the way out, simply asking her for a ride back to the hotel? or did she clean up at the table and he challenged her to some one on one to earn his money back? private poker lessons??? this is all very strange…

    Ragdoll,

First. I enjoy reading your posts. In regards to Joran being unattractive physically, I have to disagree. I think he is a attractive young person physically (notice: I did not say young man or gentleman). Because, he is not a man or a gentleman. Just as I think Casey A. is a attractive person. BUT, and the big but here is, their actions are fugly (your word) as he!!. And this is what makes them the most fugliest people. I believe beauty comes from the heart.

Well, sadly we know that he used multiple weapons, hands, knife, baseball bat and apparently sexual assault was not part of the picture, so they say. This is one dangerous individual and his motives must be understood as if they’d been recognized 5+ years ago, all might have been avoided.

  19. Sue says:

Joran Van der Sloot is such a dark, soul-less, entity. The prison where he is going is a hell-hole, but he will fit right in with the rest of the soul-less, dark entities. He will find others there to victimize and prey upon once the shock has worn off. He truly belongs in that place and I hope they throw away the key. If he were to emerge from there – ever – he will be even more dark and more soul-less if that is at all possible.

Ragdoll, thanks, yeah, one does seem more diabolical, but maybe that’s the difference in gender, one more physically aggressive, each uses their own best tactics. I guess the psychopaths use the gift of the gab, to be charming, and one guest on one of the shows tonight, said they can target victims with only a question or two to find out if they have something to gain from them and size them up.

Thankful that he’s in custody. I remember someone predicting way back when he was released one of the times in Aruba, that he was the type who would do it again. Senseless. But at least he’s in custody now and unable to do the same again to someone else.

Remember the Dr Phil show – the one involving a taped conversation between the late Jamie Skeeters and Deepak Kalpoe? Well anyway, Phil has always believed that Natalee was sold and was in Venesuela – which is pretty close to Aruba. If one lived on the western shore of Aruba, one could say, ” I can see Venesuela from my house. ” Anyway Phil actually had Skeeters, Harold Copas and some other guy, in a brothal and asking for blonde girls. The madam said they didn’t have any blondes….. I am not kidding – I bought the DVD of this show. Then there is the undercover “sting” of Deepak Kalpoe which is now in litigation in Los Angeles. The tape never shows Deepak’s face – there is one brief shot of the side of his face – then the camera goes to a wall and a table…. never his face. You do see the back of his head shaking back and forth in the negative to Skeeter’s statement, “I know she had sex with all three of you.” Deepak shakes his head in the negative but the soundtrack is “she did”. The FBI seized the hardrive of Skeeter’s computer and then sent it to the Dutch Forensics Institute which does the forensic stuff for the E.U. DFI concluded the orginal statements on the hardrive had been manipulated. The original words were No,she didn’t. With a little snip it became she did. Somebody was selling a bunch of them on Ebay a while back LOL. Anyway the case is still pending in LA. There is or was an internet site on all of Phil’s lawsuits – the biggest was over some diet pill thing. He has a very understanding insurance company. I think the Kalpoes just gave Joran and Natalee a ride to the beach and dropped them off and went home. Joran is the one and the only one who knows what happened to her. He was only 17 years old…..had never been in trouble before and then did this…or did he…..I really don’t know. Maybe he did leave her on the beach and walk home and somebody from Venesuela came along….I’ve been told that you cannot bury a human on Aruba – it is a rock. All burials are above ground in crypts. I have also read that if you go out to sea, maybe ten miles out a body could be dumped and the currents will carry it east – toward the western coast of Africa. Of course, it would never last that far. But that might be the reason Natalee has never been found. Aruba had once been a busy slave market and that sea route was followed bringing captured men and women from Africa and sailing back for another shipment. Sadly, some of my own ancestors were clients/purchasers of the slavers’ captives. Trade winds and trade currents on they go.

wanttohelp – Belts as well as shoe-laces are taken from inmates upon entry to jail. At least here in the states. Blink is right – these items are taken for the safety of the inmate. Sometimes a new inmate is so distraught about being arrested etc. that they MAY try to hang themselves with a belt or shoelaces. I know it sounds difficult, but it has been done. Sometimes they are just crying out for help too. Usually, the booking process is a slow process and trying to hurt oneself is a quick way to get to see mental health personnel right away especially if they are drug seekers. It sometimes “jumpstarts the intake process.” System-wise inmates know these tricks. But sometimes an inmate will be at the breaking point and will try to commit suicide. Safety, security and control is the motto.

To JR@4:44am – I’ve been searching for the article I read that quoted Stephany’s father as saying he is sure that the body of his daughter will be exhumed so that DNA testing can be done. It seems strange to me that Stephany would first be buried, then exhumed for testing, but evidently that’s what her father thinks will happen. Here’s the article:

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/06/04/joran-van-der-sloot-sent-_n_600691.html

This article also quotes Gen. Cesar Guardia, the Chief of Peru’s Criminal Police, saying that a tennis racket, which may be the murder weapon, was found in the room.

AC: shout-out to you, my friend! good to see you on here!

OHIOMOM: thanks for the link! i guess Mr. Flores pretty much answers my questions, but it seems to be different the way they do things over there. i agree with you, it is strange … you’d think the last resort would be to exhume a body and that the order of things would be to avoid doing so. he’s talking about DNA, finger scrapings etc….hopefully they at least got that beforehand.

SUSANM: yeah, I was kind of thinking… what if? perhaps not framing him outright, but kind of a rush job coming up with the evidence to seal the deal. some reports say she was beaten to death, others say beaten AND stabbed, some report the weapon being a baseball bat, others…a tennis racket. i even read one article that briefly mentioned hotel surveillance showing A SECOND GUY ENTERING THE ROOM along with them. to me , that would be huge and i haven’t heard anything about it since then. my instinct still has little doubt about “Urine’s” involvement in this crime, but i can’t get past believing he wouldn’t be this STUPID or DESPERATE as what appears to be the circumstances of this crime, especially in his situation.
if so, he’s young a serial killer – not simply the cunning psychopath i thought him to be.

i said in an earlier post that karma is going to be a bitch for this guy and I guess even the worst case scenario of any framing or tampering going on….would still just be the karma from what had worked in his favor in Aruba. and think of how much worse it would be for him right now completely on his own in PERU, KNOWING the chips were being stacked against him no matter what he knows the truth to be this time. the same feeling of total helplessness at the hands of a foreign country, just as Beth (Twitty) Holloway was made to feel – because of him.

so, no i wouldn’t feel bad for him either way…but i do always want to know the truth in the end.

PS – i’ve been wondering where his mother anita has been through this (probably in no position to handle it right after her husband’s sudden death). all ive heard is that “Urine” phoned her after the arrest and she simply ‘advised’ him to get a lawyer, familiar with the laws down there. doesn’t sound like the “i believe my son 200%” momma, she used to be! he is f*^%#d in every way!

  34. JR says:

OBLIO: You are right. there are a ton of people in those prisons…suffering the same existence for much lesser crimes and some even unjustly convicted (just as it can too happen here). I’ve watched “Midnight Express”, a big fan of National Geographic Channel’s “Locked Up Abroad” and frequently read up on the horror stories on the “Foreign Prisoners” website. To me, there would be nothing worse than being sentenced to spend my ‘good years’ or any amount of years in those places. Being paraded around in a bullet proof vest, holding back tears while haters and world media heckles you on, only imagining what is yet to come. But unfortunately for Joran (I’ll even stop calling him “Urine” right now – to be fair) … this is truly his karma. not just for the mistakes he may have made to find himself at the center of these crimes, but for the disgusting disregard he’s repeatedly displayed in torturing a family and continually profiting for himself, with his leverage of ‘the truth’. I don’t even think a ‘normal prison’ would get it through this type of person’s head, nor even a death sentence….if anything would, it would be this.

  35. JR says:

I wonder if they rolled down the window for better photo ops or they know he’s likely about to puke.

here is the video footage of him and Stephany entering the hotel and him leaving, alone. There’s speculation about the motive being her poker winnings, yet in the video – she does not carry a purse. It was also said he put a ‘do not disturb sign’ on the door, but the video shows there is none. It almost looks like he’s showing her off when they come in and its said, he stopped at the front desk on his way out and told staff not to enter the room and disturb ‘his girl’. Why the hell would someone be so obvious, say something to point out she’s still in the room while ‘appearing’ to check out, carrying two bags?

Not posing as his defense attorney or anything here…just scrutinizing for the facts.

I have a question on the Aruba cover up / boycott issue. I always found it hard to see why a tourism driven economy like Aruba would want to cover up a possible murder case which was in heavy media coverage already by day one. I´m no media expert, but I would think it would be in the interest of the Aruba tourist industry to solve the Holloway case as fast as possible.

If this indeed is a organised cover up, and it could be, was it organised by the Aruba government to protect the tourist industry? Or is this a case of a murdering individual with one or maybe two friends in high places?

It would seem I may be owing Chitown Lady an apolly before this is over, which is fine with me, I still would like to hear a statement from the Attorney General or the FBI ( which we will not) but the day the Aruban Gov’t can point a finger at the US FBI, is a sad one for me.

I completely understand the mentality to want to focus on the bigger picture, or Natalee murder case, but that should have been abandoned the second THEY ALL KNEW he was leaving the country for South America. I am going to want to know the reason the US did not file this indictment then, and request his passport be withheld, and extradite him.

  43. cadillac says:

Some things I have been thinking about:

**In Joran’s “stories” he always professes that Natalee hit her head. Now we know that Stephany had a head injury.

**Wasn’t a belt found on one of the beaches in a search in Natalee’s case? Was it Joran’s? Could it have played a role in her death?

**There was some “rock painting” as well in Aruba. Were these rocks located near where the belt was found?

**Lastly, I have a vague recollection of a photo of an area of water near a rocky coastline/shore that had a piece of fabric/material floating in the water that seemed to have the same hue as the halter that Natalee had on that last evening. Does anyone remember this? If so, was this anywhere near the rocks and the belt finding?

  44. cadillac says:

Not really funny – but he coulda used that belt on his way back to Peru, huh? Gross.

  45. Katie says:

Here’s the thing about the Federal Indictment:
It is for wire fraud and extortion. Wouldn’t the FBI and Federal authorities have had to wait for Joran to have actually received the remaining money via the wire transfer in order to file and then serve the indictment.

The Indictment is for Federal Wire Fraud (RIGHT?) and it was served out of Alabama. Which tells me that the wired money had to be sent from Alabama (US territory) and ultimately received and cashed by Joran before those charges could be brought forward. Or otherwise put, they had to wait for Joran to commit the US FEDERAL CRIME.

  46. Katie says:

Oh, and in order to prove that Joran “willfully intended to defraud” Beth Holloway, wouldn’t they have to let him “ABSCOND WITH THE MONEY?”

The government had to let him leave with the partial payment in order to prove “Willful Intent.” As in, they had to prove that it was his intention to take the money and run without giving further information to Natalie’s family.

Katie, that is absolutely incorrect under US law. No disrespect intended my friend, but this is an important point.

Van Der Sloot was paid an advance CASH payment of $10K, I have talked to a source that has told me that money was actually counted out at the meeting, on video. Extortion is extortion, it matters not what he intends to do with the cash, or what he actually does with the cash. Intent comes in at the point of “willfull intent to cause, or to extort.”
    B

  47. Katie says:

Right, but this is about the receipt of wire transferred monies as well as the exchange of any other “downpayment” via extortion. At least part of this indictment has to to with the transfer of money BY WIRE…this is my point. If he had not received personally any wire transferred money then part of the indictment could not be filed until that occurred. There are two counts in the indictment, correct?

Granted, part one…taking the downpayment infers that he “knowingly & willfully…”

Upon reading this indictment for the fourth or fifth time it is very clear that $15,000 of the full $250,000 was transferred from Alabama to the Netherlands on or about May 10, 2010. He, as we have been told, was in Aruba so he had to actually receive the wire transferred money from the Netherlands either in Aruba or wherever he was going. So, I am suggesting that until he actually picked up or signed for the wired money that they could not indict him on the Wire charges.

See, what your missing is that a $10K advance was paid in cash. Yes, as far as the wire charges, but he was indictable for extortion as soon as the cash was paid, which was 5/10/2010. There will be more forthcoming on this, I promise. You suggested he needed to “take the money and run” not so.
    B

  48. Katie says:

Also, I meant his intent as re: the information and his “willful intent” to never give the information that was being paid for as opposed to the money and what he does with it.

  49. Katie says:

    From this link:http://www.answers.com/topic/extortion

    Law Encyclopedia:
    Extortion
This entry contains information applicable to United States law only.

The obtaining of property from another induced by wrongful use of actual or threatened force, violence, or fear, or under color of official right.

Under the common law, extortion is a misdemeanor consisting of an unlawful taking of money by a government officer. It is an oppressive misuse of the power with which the law clothes a public officer.

Most jurisdictions have statutes governing extortion that broaden the common-law definition. Under such statutes, any person who takes money or property from another by means of illegal compulsion may be guilty of the offense. When used in this sense, extortion is synonymous with blackmail, which is extortion by a private person. In addition, under some statutes a corporation may be liable for extortion.

    Elements of Offense

Virtually all extortion statutes require that a threat must be made to the person or property of the victim. Threats to harm the victim’s friends or relatives may also be included. It is not necessary for a threat to involve physical injury. It may be sufficient to threaten to accuse another person of a crime or to expose a secret that would result in public embarrassment or ridicule. The threat does not have to relate to an unlawful act. Extortion may be carried out by a threat to tell the victim’s spouse that the victim is having an illicit sexual affair with another.

Other types of threats sufficient to constitute extortion include those to harm the victim’s business and those to either testify against the victim or withhold testimony necessary to his or her defense or claim in an administrative proceeding or a lawsuit. Many statutes also provide that any threat to harm another person in his or her career or reputation is extortion.

Under the common law and many statutes, an intent to take money or property to which one is not lawfully entitled must exist at the time of the threat in order to establish extortion. Statutes may contain words such as “willful” or “purposeful” in order to indicate the intent element. When this is so, someone who mistakenly believes he or she is entitled to the money or property cannot be guilty of extortion. Some statutes, however, provide that any unauthorized taking of money by an officer constitutes extortion. Under these statutes, a person may be held strictly liable for the act, and an intent need not be proven to establish the crime.

Statutes governing extortion by private persons vary in content. Many hold that a threat accompanied by an intent to acquire the victim’s property is sufficient to establish the crime; others require that the property must actually be acquired as a result of the threat. Extortion by officials is treated similarly. Some statutes hold that the crime occurs when there is a meeting of the minds between the officer and the party from whom the money is exacted.

    Katie-

thank you, I am familiar with the statute, thanks for posting. I bolded above, at the time that occurred, it is an indictable offense. As you can see from your post, that occurred the second money changed hands, it is not burdened by it’s use or flight of any kind.
