Kyron Horman Missing and Endangered: Grand Jury Meets, Indictment Imminent

Portland, OR- In the case of missing 7-year-old Portland child Kyron Horman, developments today continue to unfold at lightening speed.

During a poorly-kept secret convening of a special grand jury that is in session today, sources inside the investigation believe it’s triers of fact will return an indictment against Terri Horman and possibly one other individual.

It is however, unclear as to whether or not the grand jury is hearing evidence in the alleged murder for hire plot MCSO informed Kaine Horman his wife had master-minded, OR evidence surrounding the disappearance of Kaine and Desiree Young’s son Kyron.

KOIN caught Terri Horman’s friend DeDe Spicher, who was subpoenaed to appear in the proceedings this morning, on video with her attorney, entering the courthouse. Spicher was the subject of a public plea asking her to cooperate with investigators by Kaine Horman and Desiree Young last week.  A neighbor of Spicher’s has confirmed the FBI has been seen removing boxes and unknown bagged material from her residence.

According to several sources, DeDe Spicher, Terri’s roommate  post Kaine’s restraining order,  was working in a garden near the Horman home the day of Kyron’s disappearance when she received a call at approximately 11:15 am. She left abruptly, returning at approximately 1:00 pm. DeDe was unreachable on her cell phone during that time and the property owner became concerned. Spicher is a long time friend and workout companion of Horman’s.

Earlier today, Laura Rackner, Kaine Horman’s Family Law attorney filed a motion to find out where the funds are coming from to foot the bill for Terri Horman’s high profile criminal defense attorney, Stephen Houze.

In Horman’s motion, he is seeking the disclosure of the payments made to Houze, and whether or not it came from marital funds. If it has, Kaine Horman wants half the cash to pay his own legal bills. Kaine Horman alleges that Terri Horman disclosed to a third party that she paid a whopping $350,000 retainer to Houze, however, provided no proof of same in the papers filed today.

In what appears to be a media timing coup, tonight’s episode of Dateline NBC will feature Kaine Horman, Desiree and Tony Young, with interviews and coverage of Kyron’s disappearance.

Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer, Mary Lindstrand, has announced a press conference tomorrow at the MCSO Training Facility, beginning at 2:00 pm PST.

How utterly sad. The look on her face is one of total smugness. It makes me sick! How could any human being act this way knowing full well Kyron is still missing. She should realize that many people believe she has some knowledge about his disappearance and that the people in Oregon are not so forgiving – she may need to move soon.

Her atty admitted that she was “subpoenaed” and did not come on her own accord to testify. (KGW.com) To me, even if she didn’t help Terri in all of this, she is just as guilty – there is a little 7 year old out there somewhere who needs to come home and she has chosen to keep quiet.

If Kaine only read BOC, then he’d know where you suggested the money was coming from weeks ago!

Let’s hope that this is not just the MFH charges we are dealing with and that someone will finally give up, break down and bring Kyron home.

Blink, thanks for the hard work and for providing a ‘sane’ place for us to learn from you and each other on this journey of finding Kyron.

There is always the possibility that Terri was just lying to whomever is alleging she made this payment to Houze.

Interesting that the only thing that has slipped from TH camp was the retaining fee for Houze. Was this to antagonize Kaine to make this move?

I agree with you totally. If she is selling rights to fund a defense, that is going to seriously piss me off.

However, I think this was a bad idea and may waken the sleeping giant.

Why the smirk? Man, can these people get any lower? Regardless of her involvement or non-involvement, the fact remains that a 7 year old is still missing. This is not the time to relish your media attention.

    excerpted from CNN:

“[...] Spicher appeared before an investigative grand jury in Portland on Monday, according to her attorney, Chad Stavley.

Stavley, who told HLN that he was retained Friday, said Spicher was not asked any questions by the prosecutor but was ordered to return at a future date.

[...] He added that Spicher is not speaking to Terri Horman.”

    Blink,
this possible indictment is bittersweet. I fully believe that Terri is culpable for his disppearance, my quandry is intent or accidental????. The sad truth now seems OUR KYRON will not be brought back alive.

I look at it this way, I want this child found, and anything to facilitate that is a positive step.
No baby deserves to be out there discarded, he needs to be recovered.

I know that we had a heads up that this was coming, but it breaks my heart. I know that I am foolish for expecting a positive outcome and that we will all be blessed with Kyron’s smiling face again one day soon. I am sure many of you have a case that “changed” you. This one is it for me… it will always make me look at the world with jaded eyes. I keep looking at pictures of Kyron’s contagious grin, and I don’t understand how you could feel anything but love for him. I have two little ones and sure they are trying at times, but I wouldn’t trade the world for them. They are the reason I get up every day and do what I do. I just don’t understand if she despised little Kyron so much then why not just allow him to go with DY and TY… the “why” will remain in my mind long after this case and TH’s trial comes to an end. I find solace in knowing that TH will have to one day answer to a power far greater than our legal system.

Sorry to ramble, Blink, and feel free not to post. I am just heart broken over little Kyron.

Thoughts are with you today and always Kyron.

The depravity of man. That’s all I got.

If what Kaine alleged in the filing today is true..well Houze has taken a page out of the Jose Baez book on how to fund a defense fora client with no assets of their own..I’m thinking that cherry red S’tang isn’t worth $350K.

My bet..media is funding this case also. I’m glad Kaine is putting the pressure on her..the walls are closing in tighter and tighter for her right now.

I realize the doc is a fishing expedition of sorts to see who is funding her defense…I’m sure he would know if a lien had been taken on any of his property.

Well..can the GJ consider more then 1 charge at a time..meaning could they meet to FIND the facts in the MFH plot, and at the same be meeting about her involvement in the disappearance of Kyron?

  10. MissMonkey says:

    TMH a liar? B, say it ain’t so. ;)

As I am not familiar with the GJ process, could someone tell me if all people testifying are subpoenaed? Part of me wants to hold out hope that DeDe is willingly testifying, but that word throws me.

Her cousin – on the same GLP forum – is stating that we’ll know tonight/tomorrow what she knows. Guess I’ll go to bed now and hope for the best – that she knows where Kyron is and helps bring this to an end.

  11. PA Mom says:

How could DeDe know where Kyron is and not come out with his location sooner? This has to be the most absolute torture for those that love this little boy. I don’t know how I could contain myself if this were one of my grandchildren. It is not possible that DeDe is willing testifying if she hasn’t gone to the police by now. What a Heartache!

  12. PA Mom says:

Please excuse my mis-spelling. It is not possible that DeDe is willingly testifying if she hasn’t gon to the police by now. Sorry.

KATU local news mentions that the search team was at the Skyline Elementary school to gather “forensic evidence.” Compare and sample with what they have already or currently found?

I do feel reassured that FBI and other agencies are working on this case to locate Kyron. Kyron has not been ignored. We know that.

  14. Eloise says:

Thanks again Blink for the ontime article!

So DeDe was staying w/ Terri or other way around post RO? I am thinking was lied to by TH, in one way, in many ways. I think it will be interesting to see if LE performs any new searches after talking w/ miss D. Though, I wonder if she gave any info other than basic statements. I hope the presser tomorrow will not be changed or postponed.

  15. WC says:

If I had to go by looks alone, I’d say DD was the planner and TH was the follower. I want to see that smug look on DD’s face and that defiant one on TH’s turn into true fear ! I think DD wanted to break the “bond” between TH and Kaine. And if TH took little Kyron to school that day, knowing what was to befall him, and she could still do it, so help me, I can’t bear to think about it. I hope they never have another peaceful, joyful moment the rest of their lives.

    WC,

I saw on one site a psychic said that Kyron’s death was payback from Dede for Terri not following through on the MFH. Supposedly (according to the psychic) Terri and Dede are lovers. Who knows, but Dede did move herself into Kaine’s home pretty quickly after he left!

  24. Lisa says:

    Lazydog1,

This case is like 2 steps forward, 1 step back. I was so hopeful that Kyron’s location would be found today. :(

  25. ceci says:

O/T (sort-of) As things seem to be closing in around Terri, I am feeling a profound sadness for her older son, James. He is at a very vulnerable age at 16 and he was, it seems, close with Kyron. I keep them both, and Kiara, in my thoughts and prayers.

James is a kid who has been shuttled around between various “fathers” and “families,” none of whom seems to have taken a serious, steadfast, long-term interest in being his Dad, with all of the unconditional acceptance/commitment/financial responsibility that entails. His last name was “Tarver,” then “Ecker,” and, just this year, “Moulton.” Terri has been his only constant.

Do we know why Kaine never adopted James? He’s been involved in James’s life since the boy was about the same age Kyron is now. I mean, James lived with Terri, Kaine and Kyron all those years. Not with Tarver. Not with Ecker (who, it’s true, did adopt him, for a time, any way). Not with his grandparents. I can’t help but wonder if some of Terri’s bitterness toward Kaine — and possible subsequent transference to Kyron — has anything to do with how James was treated. Certainly Terri was expected to treat Kyron as “hers.”

Not that it would excuse anything.

    Sadness.

I am very confused now after reading an article on CBS news site here:
    http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/07/26/earlyshow/main6713605.shtml
In the article it quotes Kyron’s biological parents saying that they still stand by Terry Horman and also this quote: “I believe she’s committed, as the rest of our family is, to finding Kyron. And any other information regarding that is — the investigators are working with her and with us to help find him, so I don’t really have any other comment on that,” said Kaine. Young shook her head in agreement as he spoke.
What?! What?! Is this for real? Or is this some kind of set up?

  27. Eloise says:

I too pray that this new turn of development brings Kyron home. I can’t for the life of me come up with why this had to occur. I try and not think about what may have actually happened to him. I do that in all these cases, just zoning into the investigation and I try not to think of the possible reality. Same thing in the Morgan Harrington case. But there, I think of finding the murderers, like that will be finding Morgan alive somehow.
I have been keeping my eye on the TH support pg on facebook. Those folks are sold on TH’s innocence, and surely portray KH as the villian. I do believe there were more marital issues than what KH has admitted to.

  28. Lazydog1 says:

Watching KPTV they just interviewed a local psychic who has helped locate 6 missing children this year. She says that Kyron was quickly moved to Washington but has also now been moved from that location. She is waiting for LE to follow up on the leads she has given before she will say anymore about his current location but that she does know where he is at this time. Her name is Sonjia Grace.

Should be up on their website soon.

  29. Phyl says:

  30. V says:

$350,000 WOW that’s a lot of money. And a group of people some think might be a cult…. what could produce that kind of money and so many tight lips? DRUGS maybe? Manufacturing and/or selling? Guess I will have to wait to see. What I can’t understand is why Kyron is still missing? We can do better. We have to do better. There must be something we can do even when there is a GANG involved! This much time is just not right.

First the time, then the weather, and the everpresent difficult terrain, and now multiple heartless people who are more concerned with their own skin than a tiny little 7 yr old innocent child!

I read where one of the posters on one of the news sites said she hoped any trial would have a change in venue. I don’t know, that tiny little fella has touched the heartstrings across the world. I don’t think it will matter where any trial happens.

  31. cartwheel says:

Any defense attys around? I don’t get how it works if you’re a creep. So say, TH is guilty. She hires Houze. She lies. He doesn’t believe her. Does he bail at this point (some have implied same)or does he ignore his gut and represent her by assisting in concocting a fable? I mean I think Kardashian struggled with the OJ in that circus. So maybe there is a little bit of all of it that goes on. Murderers need attorneys and they’re liars too, so it seems to me how would they get counsel if their story was full of holes or does this land on the laps of public defenders who are obliged (if that is even true) to provide counsel. I guess I’m wondering what are the ethics surrounding your defending of someone you don’t believe.

Those two women should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. To be out in public appearing to be having a gay old time, knowing dear Kyron is still missing and hearts are broken is more than just a lapse in judgment. I find it totally disgusting. I’m beginning to think TH has no feelings at all. If she did she would be talking and helping to end this horrible nightmare. May you soon find your way home, Kyron. God bless you, your family and friends.

  39. twinkletoes says:

Okay, my thought is that if there were any chance of reversing the chain of events (bringing Kyron home) or even mitigating the damage to her own reputation, TH would have talked by now. Either she is innocent or she is going for broke on a defense and is confident a body will not be found.
If she did it, not saying I am ready to convict, but if she did it, there is virtually no chance Kyron is alive and the events of her morning would indicate an unplanned murder or loss of control of Kyron’s whereabouts. If there was an appointment that day, it seems the appointment was with someone other than a real doctor and it is apparent something at the appointment went terribly wrong. I still subscribe to the idea that TH got into something far bigger than she realized. . . if she did it.

  40. Debbie says:

I don’t think DD was the planner. However, I do believe she knows what happened. Although I would hope to be wrong, I beieve that TH was probably complaining to DD about Kyron for awhile…saying he agravated and annoyed her to no end…perhaps she told DD she wanted to “kill” him because she was so aggravated. On June 4, she actually did the deed and in a panic perhaps she called DD saying “oh my god, I did it…I killed Kyron, I dont know what to do” and so DD comes and helps TH conceal/dispose of little Kyron. That is what I think may have happened, and yet I still pray everyday several times a day, that I am wrong. Sorry to ramble being my first post.

Several have asked where I went with all of my so-called knowledge. Well I was lied to and felt at the time, I was not being helpful. I am still learning.
Two FBI agents came to our house on Friday and had quite a few questions. They were very professional and I was more than happy to help them in any way that I could. Being that I am a psychic medium was addressed but they came because of my friendship with Terri and family. We live in AZ so two local agents were sent to check out our house and to interview me. The mere fact that they came to check us out and to look for Kyron was impressive. I am sure all of the other friends have been thoroughly checked out and it seems to me, they are now ready to make an arrest.
Kyron is so important to many people now so it is imperative that he is found, we all need closure. He has captured all of our hearts. Blessings to all of you.

  48. A Texas Grandfather says:

Dispite all the love and forgiveness expressed by the posters on this site, this woman has not found it in her heart to tell the truth.

Maybe LE will find something that will get little Kyron back to his family.

I really believe she had help in either transporting Kyron to some unknown location or in disposing of his little body. This may come out in the testimony to the GJ and he can be found.

This is hateful behavior. If she didn’t want to be in the marriage any longer, why didn’t she just file for divorce?

  49. Shannon says:

If DD was in fact not questioned at the GJ today, do you think that the purpose of having her there might have been that they wanted her to sit through it and listen to all of the testimony and evidence, with the hope that it would shock her enough to turn on TH?

Alternatively if they have an idea that she will absolutely not turn on TH, did they want to expose her to the details and then observe what actions she takes from there in terms of relaying her new knowledge of the evidence back to TH?

I am assuming of course that TH was not part of the GJ.

Personally, I think there was an offline conversation between attorney’s, in which case they knew she would plead the 5th in certain subject matter. This is entirely speculative, but I think the focus was on the stronger case today.
