Kyron Horman Missing and Endangered: Grand Jury Meets, Indictment Imminent

Portland, OR- In the case of missing 7-year-old Portland child Kyron Horman, developments today continue to unfold at lightening speed.

During a poorly-kept secret convening of a special grand jury that is in session today, sources inside the investigation believe it’s triers of fact will return an indictment against Terri Horman and possibly one other individual.

It is however, unclear as to whether or not the grand jury is hearing evidence in the alleged murder for hire plot MCSO informed Kaine Horman his wife had master-minded, OR evidence surrounding the disappearance of Kaine and Desiree Young’s son Kyron.

KOIN caught Terri Horman’s friend DeDe Spicher, who was subpoenaed to appear in the proceedings this morning, on video with her attorney, entering the courthouse. Spicher was the subject of a public plea asking her to cooperate with investigators by Kaine Horman and Desiree Young last week.  A neighbor of Spicher’s has confirmed the FBI has been seen removing boxes and unknown bagged material from her residence.

According to several sources, DeDe Spicher, Terri’s roommate  post Kaine’s restraining order,  was working in a garden near the Horman home the day of Kyron’s disappearance when she received a call at approximately 11:15 am. She left abruptly, returning at approximately 1:00 pm. DeDe was unreachable on her cell phone during that time and the property owner became concerned. Spicher is a long time friend and workout companion of Horman’s.

Earlier today, Laura Rackner, Kaine Horman’s Family Law attorney filed a motion to find out where the funds are coming from to foot the bill for Terri Horman’s high profile criminal defense attorney, Stephen Houze.

In Horman’s motion, he is seeking the disclosure of the payments made to Houze, and whether or not it came from marital funds. If it has, Kaine Horman wants half the cash to pay his own legal bills. Kaine Horman alleges that Terri Horman disclosed to a third party that she paid a whopping $350,000 retainer to Houze, however, provided no proof of same in the papers filed today.

In what appears to be a media timing coup, tonight’s episode of Dateline NBC will feature Kaine Horman, Desiree and Tony Young, with interviews and coverage of Kyron’s disappearance.

Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer, Mary Lindstrand, has announced a press conference tomorrow at the MCSO Training Facility, beginning at 2:00 pm PST.

Stranger things have happened & younger children than James have accidently or through immature thoughts committed crimes~ They whisked James away so quickly and an alibi seemed to have been set in granite~ I would hate to even think there could be anything there because James is probably going through a horrible time but…..

Also, it is continually said that Kyron was never seen leaving the school~! Maybe he is still in the school~ ductwork , a room never used~ behind a newly sheetrocked wall~ Under floor crawlspace ~ attic `storage area etc etc etc~ Just thinking~

James is an innocent bereaved brother who recently busted his leg falling off his horse. I am seriously over hearing this child being suspect.

I think the reason the L/Sers have not spoken of Kyron’s whereabouts b/c they dont know. I believe they/he passed Kyron on to yet another participant. They may have inclinations but maybe not the whole story. OR, they just won’t talk, though I am doubting that.

Beejay, maybe Blink & the incinerator, was when she spoke of possible janitor involvement. Before the facts of TH and everything. Just guessing.

I agree with you completely. I am also of Mexican descent and live in Southern California. I have posted many times that I think he’s in Mexico for the same reasons you listed…easy to enter, no news coverage of Kyron, long lead time planned into kidnapping, multiple connections through LS, DeDe’s ex, etc. My only prayer is that, if he’s there, he’s with a Mexican family that is taking good care of him.

Still bothered about James & perhaps some involvement.. hope not but the thought is there.

    @chiapet.

Good point about Teri making sure she was noticed everywhere but NOT specifically leaving the school. If she had it set up for someone else to take kyron at the school then she should have been yelling goodbye to everyone as she was walking out the door ALONE. There would have been lots of witnesses saying, “oh yeah I said goodbye to Teri as she was leaving”.

What we end up with is 2 teachers who thought Teri and Kyron left together.

How would the accomplice know the coast was clear to take Kyron. What if the teacher wanted Kyron to stay with his project or Kyrons friends all wanted to bum around together. How did the mysterious kidnapper know exactely what time and where to nab Kyron? Sorry but the stars, moon and sun do not line up that perfectly.

Could DeDe be a sexual predator? Does she “like” children? Is this the clue that is hiding in plain sight? Maybe Terri owed her something. 25. Chianme says:

I agree. I think LE, the FBI and all the other agencies involved will not let this case go cold. I have lots of respect for the way these investigators are working. I also believe in positive thinking. I’m holding out for “Kyron is being held by some family somewhere”, waiting for a sign from someone perhaps incarcerated. I believe LE et al are proceeding slowly as to not cause a bad ending for Kyron. I hope and pray my intuition is right.

Bless Kyron, his brothers, little sister and his real Mom and Dad.

Either Teri sold Kyron to pay a debt or she double crossed LS and this is his way of showing her what he and his posse (I like that word Blink) are capable of. Maybe LS made threats against Kiara if Teri didn’t come through with $$ and she offered up Kyron.

Hi, sorry but I am about 57 posts behind. I still need to catch up but heres my MOO:

Today I was driving in my car and heard an amber alert for a boy in NJ that was presumably taken by his father. I found my heart racing and fists clenched with worry for this 8yo boy. http://www.nj.com/gloucester-county/index.ssf/2010/08/update_amber_alert_suspect_als.html I hope someone finds this SICK MF and hopefully safely returns the child to his home. This makes me sick. 6 counts and this guy was out on probation. SICK SICK SICK and I am PISSED.

Re: Why Kyron? Why not Kiara? A few things come to mind. It is much harder to take care of a 2yo that likely is not potty trained. Also, the perp may not have realized that TMH doesnt give a crap about her stepson. They know that Kaine is the money source so they figure they have that covered. A 7yo can at least go to the bathroom without help or a diaper and may even be able to entertain himself. A 2yo cannot. If one were a pedophile, sicko, or someone involved in the black market (God it makes me sick just saying this) a beautiful 7yo boy with big blue eyes might be worth something.

Blink, I hope you are at least a bit satisfied by the notion of MC going in front of the GJ. I know I am as he should be. I take it as a good sign that they are gathering more useful info. in light of the over 4000 leads that they have to sift through and follow, I do not blame LE for being a bit behind as far as the public sees it.

Re: Kaine saying she was spending his money like water. I see the red squirrel just socking it away or using it for ill gotten gains. I think she was putting it away in drips and drabs and he was starting to see how it added up over time. Maybe she owed someone for some heavier drugs for weight loss or steroids or whatever and when she did not pay up, they took Kyron.

I dunno. Its all so sad and I hope they find Kyron soon. I am going to bed but I sure do hope I can get caught up tomorrow.

And for the little boy Terry in NJ, I hope they find him soon. If you are in the northeast, please keep your eyes open.

Apology accepted. I have a soft spot for this young man, who has been put through the ringer for months, so I apologize for my terse response as well.

I have spent months with the BOC team pouring over docs, interviews, pics, and I can say without reservation James was a loving brother to all his siblings and I am heartsick for what he must be going through.

There is a pic of him, holding Kiara’s hand, and Ky walking, and Ky is looking up at him with UGE grin and it tears me up every time. I do not know what happened to break this family, but I do know that children do not understand the sins of their parents.

When Blink Jr was a tot and I was reading him Humpty Dumpty, at the end he shot up and said “I will be right back”.

He ran back out of breath, arms out in front of him as if he were holding the key to the world and it might evaporate with one false move.

He said.. “See mommy, he is fine, all better, no cracks..”

Blink says: “I will tell you what it is. This case was believed to be a kidnapping for ransom out of the gate.”
    *******************************************************************
Could it be that the Kyron’s glasses were delivered solely as message (“we have Kyron”/”Keep your mouth shut, we kept some evidence”) and just simply assumed by LE to be notice of a kidnapping for ransom since LE hadn’t yet learned of the true nature of TH’s relationship with the LS? Or was there really a note?

August 23, 2010, 1:40 pm: Puzzled says: “What has bothered me from the beginning is why the need for the public to take TH apart and shred her life, and now DDS as well.”
    ***********************************************
I think the focus has been on TH because Kyron was last in TH’s care. The “shredding” because, by most appearances and accounts, she has done nothing and continues to do nothing (to the public’s knowledge), toward finding this child. DDS is supporting/defending her so she is “guilty” by association in the truest sense. If my own child was missing and the last person responsible for him wasn’t talking I would be shredding that person in more ways than one. Kyron is a defenseless beautiful child. We’ve all adopted him as our own and are looking for answers as to what happened to him and where he is now. The “shredding” is in defense of Kyron and our way of getting to those answers, since the only person who seems to have them (or most of them) isn’t talking.

God Bless and keep you sweet Kyron.

  33. MockingbirdSings says:

Let’s take a minute to talk about receipts since they’ve been mentioned. If someone paid cash, and didn’t use their FM Rewards Card which would have noted the Rewards Card number on the receipt (you could compare to the card she has or if she says she doesn’t have one, then how would a number get on the receipt?), she could have used any receipt she found (or someone got for her), especially if it just had one or two often purchased and appropriate items on it. If she got there later, the receipt would have shown the earlier time, of course.

Going through the trash seems rather hit or miss – would have been safer to have a friend pick up something for her while she was on the way and use that receipt, but that adds someone else to the mix.

If she really wanted a personal alibi, she’d have used a credit or debit card. As far as I know, no one has said whether the receipt was cash or credit.

This is a side note but worth knowing – please do not throw your receipts away around a store or parking lot, or please rip up first. Most people do not think tossing a receipt is a problem for them if there is no personal information on it. But – I know a meth addict (who also said his friends do this, too) who bragged he would:

    (1) get a receipt out of the trash, then go back into a large store where there are many cashiers and lots of people.
    (2) get a cart and put in (maybe under) the cart one or 2 of the most valuable items on the receipt, and leave it sitting in a busy area but close to the door.
    (3) LEAVE the store with nothing but the receipt.
    (4) call the store’s customer service desk from his cell phone in the parking lot and say that he’d been in a rush, grabbed the bags from the cart and forgotten these 2 or 3 items, thought his wife had them, or whatever – then ask if anyone had found a cart with these items left in it.
    (5) of course the store would find the cart and he has a receipt, so he gets to go to customer service and walk out of the store with these items without paying a cent

If you switch stores, you can do this at a lot of places and not get caught, he said. If someone questions you, you do have a receipt so what can they say – you got it straight from customer service. So many people go through the lines that to prove anything, every cashier would have to swear you did NOT go through his or her line, and what are the odds they will be able to do that (could have been the wife shopping and the husband returning)? It’s not worth the store’s time and money to go through all the video (without your picture) to see if they can catch you NOT doing something – then try to find you later when you didn’t even have to provide ID – for the cost of a couple of small items.

I have never looked at a receipt the same way again. I know for certain that he was successful at Fred Meyer stores, Home Depots, Targets, and probably others he didn’t mention. PLUS if it wasn’t something he wanted, he could return it later for cash with the receipt – worth more than selling on the street.

I believe this only works for someone who looks like Mr. or Mrs. Average Adult Shopper – the rest still have to shoplift. It doesn’t work to repeat at the same stores because customer service people will eventually recognize you and wonder why you are so forgetful, and it doesn’t work at stores like Costco which have people who check your receipt and cart at the exit doors.

I tried to explain this to customer service at a store once and it did not compute, but trust me, it is being done. The simplest fix is to teach people to be careful with their receipts – WE pay for the merchandise sooner or later.

Oh yes, also works sometimes if you get a restaurant receipt and come back in a day or 2 saying the meal made you sick – some will offer you a free meal in return and they don’t know if you were really there or not. I know – whole thing is sick, but people do it.

    Sorry, soap box again.

  34. tarmancer says:

I think Kaine could just go to the optometrist that prescribed Kyron those eyeglasses and pick up a duplicate pair and that is why they didnt have to just show a picture. Styles in shoes, shirts and pants run out quickly in stores and new styles in. They said Kyrons shoes were well worn I think so maybe they could not pick up those exact shoes again. It looked like they created a shirt CSI with an iron-on that wasn’t exactly like Kyrons. It used to be James’ shirt so it was old and that style could be very hard to find except on eBay. These kidnappers would have had to mail the glasses wouldnt they? I mean they cannot just drive up to Kaines mailbox and plunk in some glasses and hope to not be seen by neighbors. I dunno. Maybe someone did mail the glasses. Could be another thing to confuse the issue.

“I have to believe there is more to the story about what went down the day Kyron went missing. Otherwise, DH and KH would have been on the street assisting in the search.”

    @Blink says:

“I will tell you what it is. This case was believed to be a kidnapping for ransom out of the gate.”

Putting it all together, could the motivation for an abduction and what ensued have all began with a fight between Kaine and Terri over money (and/or other issues)? Terri doesn’t strike me as a very forgiving person (MOO).

Hypothetically, let’s say Terri gets so mad that she decides to get payback by staging an abduction for ransom. Let’s say hypothetically, she tries to blackmail Kaine by making the abduction look like a sexually motivated crime in such a way it suggests that maybe he was responsible, due to his family background, as claimed by his brother the sex offender.

In that very, very hypothetical instance, Terri gets the money. Kaine starts to figure out something is wrong. Around this the time that Kaine figures out what is going on (hypothetically), law enforcement tells him that Terri tried to hire a hit man months ago.

Terri realizes she’s under suspicion and has to hire a lawyer to defend herself against LE’s allegations. The source of her attorney’s fees (hypothetically)? The ransom.

IMHO, it explains part of why Kaine is in orbit about the retainer, as there may be a far bigger issue at hand.

  36. Newsatfive says:

“Okay kidnapping for RANSOM? Of a middle-class family in a practically rural, if not totally rural, community in Portland, Oregon. Well that takes the cake.”

Maybe. I remember my father saying that if you wanted to get kidnapped or killed, mess with someone who was growing pot or dealing drugs.

The area where the Hormans live was noted in news coverage as a haven for pot growers. I believe this to be true.

I recall my parents discovering a marijuana grove near their property in the Portland area (not the same neighborhood as the Hormans, but in the same demographic). They were so terrified, they sat us kids down and told us on no uncertain terms that we were to tell no one what we found.

My father discovered a short time later that the pot plants were gone. He was sure that someone had observed him on the property. We moved a short time later.

What I’m getting at is this: If the Hormans were growing pot, knew of others who were involved in drug trafficking, or otherwise involved in that area, they could have easily ticked off the wrong people.

None of this changes Terri Horman’s sketchy behavior.

I would think that even if LE believed from the gate that it was a kidnapping, they still HAVE to conduct the searches. If they didn’t, and he had just wandered, what would have happened then? All avenues have to be explored until they an be completely ruled out, no matter what is believed to have happened.

  39. Michelle says:

I have been lurking for a long time but want to jump in for a moment and ask a question. If I remember correctly, LE stated that during their investigation, they located an ad TH took out looking for a landscaper to work at her home. They contacted this LS and this is how they learned of the MFH plot against KH. But, it looks like TH and DD already knew these two landscapers. Was there really an ad? What am I missing? It would seem that if the LS who was wired by LE and sent to talk to TH is truly involved in Kyron’s disappearance, this might be why TH did not play along. She certainly would have known it was a setup and, thus, called 911 to report this “strange guy coming to her door with this wild story” he wanted her to corroborate. This would also explain why said LS did not report this supposed MFH when it was discussed and also why he didn’t come forward when he learned of Kyron’s disappearance. The other issue I would like to comment on whether Kyron left the school that morning with TH. At my child’s school, there is a locked door and buzzer, etc. On the days of assemblies and science fairs, there is an open door, people everywhere, etc. So, as others have mentioned, this would be a good day for TH to carry out a sinister plan. Also, I am starting to believe that Kyron left the school with someone else, either by walking (doubtful) or in some sort of bag or container Kyron is a little bitty thing). After they visited the science fair, did TH tell Kyron to go to the bathroom one last time before class, and someone (LS?) was in there waiting for him? It was, after all, science fair day. There are going to be a lot of strange faces there that day that don’t bring attention to themselves.

    Now I’m mooing.

Wow. I’ve been gone 4 days and we are at over 3,000 comments nd some of them are real doozies (lol!) admist this sad event.

On security at the school I teach at:

Monday was the first day of school down here. At our dept meeting the chairs told us faculty that our school FAILED 3 security checks. The ISD planted a “stranger” on campus and they walked all around the school without one staff or faculty person asking them who they were. FWIW, visitors are supposed to check in at the the office and wear a badge. So because we failed this test 3 times, now we have a receptionist at the front entrance who makes sure anyone who enter the building checks in or wears their faculty badge (I couldn’t find mine yesterday, and she called me out!). I’m not saying this is a bad thing, by any means, but I remember the days when the school was much more open to visitors and there was still a sense of security (still, a probably false sense).

Now, bear in mind this is a HS and not an elementary. Also, because of the unique nature of this school there alot of visitors in and out all day and we are used to people other than faculty/staff/parents/students visiting the school.

Only once do I remember having a lock down and that was because of a bank robbery down the street.

Also, they finally put in cameras just last year. Not because of the students, but for security. This school has been around for 40 years and they just put cameras in the halls last year. I couldn’t believe it.

I know this all is a bit OT, but as I was walking the halls yesterday I couldn’t help but keep my eyes peeled for anything out of the ordinary and I feel better that they have implemented more stringent security. If anything good comes from this, I hope it will keep our students safer in the future.

Near me today the local news gives an example of a non-gang-related attempted retaliation against witnesses:

“A 35-year-old inmate facing an aggravated molestation charge offered an undercover officer $75,000 to kill his family so they could not testify against him, Gwinnett County police said.”

LE put an undercover guy in jail w. the perp. Perp. brought himself additional charges: three counts of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and threatening a witness.

    From: http://www.ajc.com/news/gwinnett/cops-inmate-tried-to-599166.html

BTW, how insulting! Only $25K per family member?!

Either Teri sold Kyron to pay a debt or she double crossed LS and this is his way of showing her what he and his posse (I like that word Blink) are capable of. She probably felt she could outsmart the LS (with her degrees and all) in a business transaction and…. he isn’t as ignorant as she thought. Maybe LS made threats against Kiara if Teri didn’t come through with $$ and she offered up Kyron.
    And the online business???

I’ll be patient, simma down naw, simma down.

By the way, I bought my season ticket to the Futureman act. I feel cheated…think he should appear more. Oh, before you tell me to try the veal, I did and I liked it! ha ha I better shut up and go to work.
