Casey/Caylee Anthony Murder Trial: Closing Arguments Bring New Confessions By Jose Baez And New Smirks By Jeff Ashton

Assistant State’s Attorney Jeff Ashton began the closing arguments with such scalpular precision my mind wandered briefly where I actually pictured him scrubbing in, just before entering court. In approximately 77 minutes,  with 2 overruled objection by Jose Baez, Ashton tied up the one thing he is NOT required to present to the jury,  Casey’s motive for murdering her toddler, setting the tone for his closing that presented more like an excerpt from a Grisham flick.  I say let him play himself.

“..It’s easy to be a parent, sometimes.. It’s easy to be a parent, when your playing with your child, or when your enjoying your child, children are fun… But we all know that being a parent is much more than just playing with your children.. Being a parent is about sacrifice.. Your child becomes your life. This case is about the clash between that responsibility and the expectations that go with it, and the life that Casey Anthony wanted to have… “

Ashton went through the time line of 31 days including details from the elaborate lies Casey Anthony told to avoid detection from her Mother Cindy, her imaginary friend finder chip located in the unallocated sectors of her mind where her conscious should have been, and the fact there is only one reason to duct tape a small child: MURDER.  Ashton reminded jurors that the defense theory is asking them to head down rabbitholes that defy reasonable thought.  It makes one wonder if that was not exactly the source of inspiration behind Jose Baez Dr. Huntington pigs sans blankets experiment.

Cheshire Cat: By-the-bye, what became of the baby? I’d nearly forgotten to ask.

Alice: It turned into a pig.

The Cat: I thought it would.

Jose was spotted given jurors a parting gift over lunch, which was intercepted by deputies.

Doom and Gloom Loom for Camp Casey

On what is likely to be her day of reckoning, Ms. Anthony was less than thrilled to learn that 2 of the bullseye on her defense’s dart board were permanently removed, I reckon. George and Lee Anthony, the crux of the defense’s failed attempts to blame Casey Anthony’s selective post traumatic stress disorder, will not be allowed to be maligned further based on her allegations of sexual abuse.

As expected, Jose Baez began his closing arguments reminding jurors the defense is not required to “defend” at all.  In short, his comments were structured around the trash being altered because it was allowed to dry, and that the state allowed jurors to pass around the velveeta pouch so they could help figure out “Who cut the cheese.”  You read that correctly, he actually said that.

Baez Wyle e

He also went on to express his concerns that the State painted his client as a slut, and by doing so, invoking their emotions which will be used to find her guilty, as opposed to actual evidence.

In what I will call flub #3 in less than 40 minutes, Jose Baez inadvertently tells jurors that Casey Anthony’s trunk for the usage ot transportation is not murder. HEH?  I thought the defense was quite adamant the junk in the trunk is what stunk.  I guess that’s now bunk, whoda’ thunk?

Jose Baez is currently continuing his contribution to the defense’s, and Cheney Mason is on as anchor to complete the allotted 4 hours.

Linda Drane Burdick has had 3 sustained objections and granted one move to strike already.  I lost that bet dangit.

Flub #4 flies in, while I am editing.  This lawyer just actually admitted Casey searched for chloroform based on Ricardo Morales’s image on his computer.  OMG.

..” It should be natural for her to want to know what chloroform was if her boyfriend had the image on his myspace…”  Jose Baez

Assistant State Attorney Linda Drane Burdick will complete the State’s rebuttal closing argument.

On an unrelated note, the jury has selected their preference for the order of question during the press conference scheduled following a verdict.  It is as follows:

1.  CNN 2.  WFTV 3.  St. Pete Times 4.  Reuters 5.  People 6.  HLN 7.  WDBO 8.  NBC 9.  MSNBC 10.WTSP 11.FOX 12.Orlando Magazine 13.Florida Sun 14.WKMG 15.Dateline 16.WTMY 17.Chathouse 18.CFN 13 19.WOFL 20.Tampa Tribune 21.In Session 22.Orlando Sentinel 23.Univision 24.AP 25.Discovery 26.ABC 27.EFE 28.CBS 29.WESH

If that is not a window to this jury, I don’t know what is.

To Be Continued, Active Blogroll on this thread through today’s session. On the day that Governor Scott signed his first death warrant for Manuel Valle, convicted of killing a Coral Gables police officer a few counties away, I would not hold out any hope that Ann Finnell’s motion for mistrial based on Federal Court’s ruling striking the death penalty in Florida, will be granted. Back home/no TV just Orlando Sentineal Tweets, I did think when I saw jurors’ profiles on late nite motel TV recently that it was all over for prosecution at jury selection. Imo some very concrete thinkers, very simple minded were some of them. Sad to see this day. Well, the greatest burden for George & greatest pleasure for Cindy will be the ongoing support of Casey, and no doubt her future children.

Being wrong doesn’t become you Blink. Very childish. So, as a victim’s advocate, are you going to support Casey as she was a victim of persecution?

Wrong? Please be specific, what have I been wrong about?

Let me clear in my communication with you, Casey Anthony murdered her child, and got away with it. I’m sorry, but weren’t you involved in a search for her? Were you not contacted by Morti Smith?

Pam Keasey of Merritt Island, FL, previously banned poster as Mytime on Scaredmonkeys – what is childish is the fact that you glom into cases, and pretend to have murdered kids, terminal illness, and you stalk victims and their bereaved families.

O you bet, I have every email with your “plots and plans” and every private message and phone records.

If I lived in a state that had “sunshine laws” I would most assuredly be less of an assclown. Lest, so many would have access to my assclown agenda and it’s root cause, potentially.

If your sorry azz stalks another member of my family or friends, I will seek every legal remedy available to me.

Defense lawyers will not likley admit to the public the guilt or innocence of a client. However, they often know more of the truth regarding guilt that they do share with collegues and friends.

The purpose of council for the defense is to try to protect someone charged by the state of a crime from being totally alone in a court. It is a way to level the playing field. A way to balance the scales of justice.

I have many friends who are attorneys, and judges. Unlike ordinary folks who make a living doing things other than criminal justice activities, these people have to build an emotional barrier between the bad behavior and incomprehensible acts of those who cannot abide by the rules and laws of society.

If you analize carefully the language you find on this blog site, you will see that some use anger and others use humor in order to deal with the evil acts we find in society.

Yes, being an attorney is a business. Just like every business, one has good clients and some that are troublesome. Attorneys are no different than any other business specialist. All strive to become good or top rated in an effort to increase income.

To answer your question about whether the defese lawyers care about Casey. IMO they care as much as possible to try and get her a fair trial.

And now while I was writing this post we have a verdict of Not Guilty for all charges other than lying to law enforcement.

For the life of me, I cannot fathom the thinking of these twelve people.

In my opinion this jury failed Caylee. Evil has momentarily triumphed. So sad.

I am numb and yet livid at the same time. People often question the face of true evil? You’ve just witnessed it folks. Unbelievable. In the battle between good and evil, evil just won.

Can we all please be present when the Ant’s stand in front of God someday? I need vindication somehow, this is so unfair. My heart aches for Caylee. 3 yrs later and she is STILL a pawn to them. Heaven is in fact crying today. There will be no trumpets for Caylee’s memory and dignity being upheld. I feel like spitting nails. I never thought I could say this, but I truly hope there is a vigilante hero out there somewhere in FL. This is just appalling.

George and Cindy, I hope you sleep with one eye open til the day you die because your day is coming too. You think Casey’s vengeance stops with Caylee? Think again. She hates you, she has for a long time and yet you protected her. I have no doubt she will off someone else in the future if they get her in way. She has already gotten away with it once and now she knows how to do it again but tidying up the mistakes she made this time. That’s what sociopathic eraser killers do.

Caylee Marie … we, the people of the world, unrelated to you and not lacking in common sense grieve for you, pray for you, love you and keep you in our hearts forever, please know that. We will never forget you or stop loving you … even though your “family” apparently already has. Someday justice will come for you little one … just not in this lifetime. I am so sorry we couldn’t do more but we did all we could do. In our heart of hearts, we will never stop fighting for you, although our cries for justice have fallen on deaf ears.

I really hope the one juror who had to be in London on July 7th has a GREAT time on his vacation knowing the history he was just involved in. I am completely and sadly convinced justice was absent in Orlando in the last hours. Justice was perverted today in the worst imaginable way and I am sickened by it. There simply are no words. My heart aches. Tears aren’t enough. I am completely broken by this. I am not a hate-ridden person, but today I am beyond my sanity. I hope Casey rots in hell … and Cindy and Lee can follow right behind her.

    911 Operator: “It isn’t ma’am. You’re a disgrace.”

  33. cherylz says:

  34. New Bee says:

This is just to unbelievable. How in the world can these 12 people come up with not guilty? Where is the logic in all of this? And still no justice for little caylee. I am sooooo sick.

  35. Riverpearl says:

Of course the jury does not want to do a Q & A w/ the FREE press …
Let ‘em go home [now] & they’ll be “in touch” when the highest bid/fee is given …

Get ready for the first of many paid interviews w/jury member/s & ICA [who'll be walking free soon] …

This jury appears to be for “swift release” to go home …
IMO when they start to see/read the “who/what/why” of the case of STATE v Casey Marie Anthony, they will have the WEIGHT of letting a murderer free to roam among the public resting on their shoulders & mind…

I also fear that the “ICA defense” will be a “play book” for others …

KathiB WFTV says GA’s face was bright red while verdict being read & looked shocked & disappointed … while CA was smiling ….

How do GA & CA deal w/ICA — does ICA move back in, like nothing happened ??

STATE will do press conf in 4mins or less …

Remember ICA still has the lawsuit/civil case w/regards to ZFG … ICA can no longer keep that @ bay …

  38. sdmike1974 says:

My take away is the prosecution may have made the following strategic mistake.

Instead of emphasizing the premeditation (chloroform searches) and the cold calculated desire to kill her child for a new found freedom, perhaps they should have chosen a more plausible (or different) motive.

Namely, a crime of passion to punish her mother due to a lingering enraged behavior following the major argument (which included attempted choking) within close proximity of the intentional killing. It was perhaps easier to show that this act was the result of rage rather than planning, or premeditation, back in March ’08.

Some have asked in recent days why the prosecutors did not make more of this horrific argument between mom and daughter? Well, with the benefit of hindsight I am now convinced this is a damn good point.

Blink All I meant is I was speechless-

You know how I feel about Caylee and this case.

Blink- you know that Caylee’s face will haunt me AND my daughter, my whole family, for the rest of our lives.

    You know.

I agree with you Blink, I said it just this week- BEFORE the verdict that if Casey walks free- then she has just given a playbook to all other would be murderers and not just those who want to do away with their children so they can go party.

Casey Anthony has provided the playbook for all crimes-

This verdict almost ensures without a doubt there will be more Casey Anthonys but more devastating- that there will be more Caylee Anthony’s.

I am sickened beyond belief Blink- Casey Anthony is innocent of all charges except 4 counts of lying…

I guess the truth was too graphic to show.

Dont you think I will always wonder if I could have done more? If I should have shouted from the roof tops?

I dont know what more I could have done Blink- unlike her mother and her family, I will never be able to erase the truth from my mind, or the mind of my daughter..

and I have to live with that knowledge and the knowledge that our judicial system is very flawed- and I somehow have to help her come to grips with that “truth” when I myself do not understand it.

My sweet, sweet Mom 3.0, did I say something wrong? There is no question whatsoever about your compassion and commitment here.

We have them, we know them, it changes nothing.

I say openly, this does not change my devotion to the advocacy of little Caylee.

We are just watching the next 31 days play over.

I want to be the beacon, I am searching for the battery.

  42. Survivor says:

@Lizzy – I’ve been saying the same for the last couple of days. In the event of acquittal, divorce is just around the corner.

@Solange – I’ve been very busy the last couple of days and have not had an opportunity to respond to your very emotional response on the other post. I apologize for that. I feel for your family’s personal struggles and deeply thank you for your kind words. It’s a subject I could dwell on at length as I know you well understand. We grow up. We survive. We move on in spite of life’s unwanted challenges and we always have to do better.

I am so desperately sad. Today was a severe letdown in the path of justice for Caylee. I’m heartbroken and have been attempting to keep the tears at bay all afternoon. I run a youth sports program which begins introductory instruction for boys and girls starting at the age of 3. The 3 and 4 year old program is my favorite. It’s like herding cats sometimes but it always a great video source. It’s non-competitive and so much fun to administer, parent, coach and watch. I can’t help but have images in my mind of the comparison of the parents in our program who are so protective of the little ones to make sure that not even their feelings are hurt, much less the unimaginable destruction of this sweet little girl. We PROTECT our children. We don’t destroy them. It is so hard to comprehend letting her get away with murder. Little Caylee should have been getting ready to play softball or soccer or learning dance or gymnastics. No matter what, she should have been loved and protected by someone, anyone, in her family.
Today was also a letdown to Casey and the society that has the misfortune to interact with her in the future. For someone like her, she will be over this in short order with the false impression that she is invincible. Until she gets some real, hard, psychological help, she will continue to believe that she can literally get away with murder.

JA and LDB make me want to be a prosecutor. I just heard this was JA’s last trial and that he is retiring. You done good in spite of the result.

Blink – Thank You for providing us this opportunity. Words fail me to even say what for.

Thank God that He is the head coach of Team Caylee. In this case, He is the Judge, Jury and Prosecution.
AMOO….gotta go cry now. Can’t hold back any longer.

Evil can only win temporary victories. The valuable lesson we all must take is to NOT EVER GIVE UP. We must all continue to love and respect one another- all who post and read on this wonderful site where Blink and team lead the charge for justice for all who need it.
There are plenty more who will need our caring thoughts.

Casey will have a hard life when she regains her freedom. Judge Perry can tack on the four years, or maybe more, to her existing sentence for stealing from Amy.

Just because twelve people who, in my opinion were very lazy and didn’t want to be there, found Casey not guilty does not in my mind make her innocent.
We will have to wait until she meets her maker for a full measure of justice. We can only hope that this does not embolden Casey to do other crimes.
