Missing Soldier Kelli Bordeaux: Bar Owner Froggy Bottoms Where She Was Last Seen Arrested, Has FBI Warrants

Fayetteville, NC-  Stephan Wayne Cantrell,  believed to be one of the bar owners of the Froggy Bottoms Bar, where Ft. Bragg pfc Kelli Bordeaux was last seen with Nick Holbert, has been arrested on local and Federal charges that are not related to Bordeaux’s disappearance.

Cantrell was arrested for for failing to appear at a 2001 court hearing for driving while impaired and has several warrants issued by the FBI for failures to pay over 0,000 in child support to different women.

As previously reported exclusively by www.blinkoncrime.com,  the alcohol permit issued to the Froggy Bottoms Bar lists the name of Mandy Rai Murphy as it’s owner.   Cantrell is listed at an address along with Murphy at 317 Lynn Avenue in Fayettville.  Murphy is also listed as the principal owner of Poindexters Saloon.

Kelli Bordeaux was last seen early Saturday morning April 14 with Nick Holbert, an aggravated registered sex offender who is currently incarcerated for failing to register his change of address behind the bar.

Check back to BOC for updates to this developing story.

Quick work, Blink, I need to stop wasting my time with local news, hee, you’re as fast as they are. (Now you just need a weather feature for me on BOC, please, ma’m). Thank you!

lol, this has been brewing for a few days- Mr. Cantrell has some alias issues.

I guess the investigation into Kelli’s disappearence is somewhat the cause of these two arrests. Also, I may have missed reading but do we actually know she made it out of that bar?

No Jane, no word yet and I have my doubts.

This may end up as another one of those multiple perp bar crimes against a single intoxicated victim.

I don’t think we know for sure if Kelli was indeed intoxicated, although I agree she may have been.

To your point, I do believe there will end up being multiple offenses in this case of more than one person.

Nobody is going to tell me some child rapist is constantly at your bar ( working under the table) and living in a tent on your property and you are not going to know about it?

Then, to find out the dude has outstanding warrants and the bar is listed in your girlfriends name?

People with things to hide are inclined to hide others with the same monkey on their back.

Was the owner at the bar that night? When did he leave Massachusetts? What area of the state did he live in? I do say I have doubts about Nicholas Holbert being involved. Maybe he did just give her a ride home, and maybe someone followed them.

Right now, I have to say that Mr. “Cantrell” has some serious legal issues ahead.

US Marshalls picked him up, not Cumberland County. That in itself is not unheard of, but it could be a sign of other things of concern.

My contacts are telling me he is chatty.

Mandy Rai Murphy is Cantrell’s wife. Unreal this site

Let me understand your definition of unreal. Cantrell is in the slammer for skipping out on a DWI charge, dodging over $400K in child support from 3 different women, hiring a registered sex offender under the table, and I am the one with the credibility issue?

Y’all better catch up on your fact checking.

How would a young woman ever have the experience to spot a dangerous situation as this one. Get her drunk or drugged and take advantage.

Early update this AM via F’ville newspaper with a few new details. I’m off the fence on the husband now, don’t think he’s involved. This report says the SO Holbert picked her up in HIS car…. I hope Blink’s right about “Mr. Cantrell” maybe spilling some info to buffer his sorry hide’s upcoming dues.

Brother of missing soldier Kelli Marie Bordeaux doubts authenticity of text messages
    By Greg Barnes, Staff writer
The brother of missing Fort Bragg soldier Kelli Marie Bordeaux said Monday that her close friend in Florida received a text message from her phone on the morning she disappeared: “Got home safely.”
Matt Henson said he doesn’t believe his sister sent the message, or one to the same friend about an hour earlier saying she was getting a ride home with a man.
“Things don’t add up. That’s very plain for anybody to see,” said Henson, who has been searching for his sister since she disappeared after leaving Froggy Bottoms bar on Ramsey Street at 1:20 a.m. April 14.
The bar’s owner, Steven Cantrell, was arrested Monday on unrelated charges.
Cantrell, 49, of the 300 block of Lynn Avenue, was taken into custody by Cumberland County deputies and U.S. marshals on an outstanding warrant charging him with failing to appear in court on a driving while impaired charge from 2001, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said.
The spokeswoman, Debbie Tanna, said in an email that FBI agents also have warrants for Cantrell’s arrest in Boston on charges of failing to pay $400,000 in child-support payments to three different women.
The arrest of Cantrell follows Friday’s arrest of 25-year-old Nicholas Holbert, a registered sex offender who was the last person reportedly seen with Bordeaux – leaving the bar together.
Holbert, who lived in the woods behind the bar, has been charged with violating the state’s Sex Offender Registry by failing to register a change of address at the Sheriff’s Office. His bail was set at $100,000.
Henson said his sister, Holbert and the family friend, identified only as Justin, met for the first time a week or two before her disappearance.
Henson said Justin was in Fayetteville to visit Bordeaux. The two had been friends since Bordeaux and her family moved about 20 miles from Orlando, Fla., to the small town of St. Cloud in 1996 to escape escalating crime problems.
Henson said he is suspicious that his sister sent the text message to Justin because it doesn’t appear that she ever made it home.
“Everything was sitting like you would leave it and you were going to come back in a few hours or whatever,” he said.
Henson said Holbert has acknowledged that he picked up Bordeaux in his car and took her home. Holbert told WTVD Channel 11 that he dropped Bordeaux off near the entrance of her apartment complex.
Holbert also told the television station that he only recently met Bordeaux and her friend, whom he did not identify.
“She came into Froggy Bottoms a couple of weeks ago with a friend – male friend – and they was drinking and playing pool,” the station quoted Holbert. “And I asked if I could get next on the pool game. They said yes, and that’s how I met them, playing pool at the bar.”
Bordeaux, 23, is a specialist with the 601st Area Support Medical Company, 261st Multifunctional Medical Battalion, 44th Medical Brigade. She was assigned to Fort Bragg in November.
She married Michael Bordeaux about two years ago. They lived in an apartment off Ramsey Street, about a half-mile from Froggy Bottoms.
Henson said Michael Bordeaux had gone to Florida to buy a car and visit family when his wife disappeared.
Henson said that, like any young couple, their relationship had its ups and downs.
“But he’s a pushover,” Henson said. “He wanted to make Kelli happy. We really do support Mike 100 percent.
“He loved Kelli. There is no doubt in my mind about that.”
Police have released no new information.

I would feel better if LE would officially clear Mike

It is official, I’m a Blink aholic and live on Blink time. Blink printed her first article on April 20 and I set my time to that. I forgot that Kelli went missing April 13, 14th. I only skimmed the facebook comments before 4/20…I want to kick myself that they are all gone. It might have set a tone as to what happened to Kelli. This bar looks like a club of a very connected and tight group. Poindexter’s looks like it may have been more geared to some Military,JMO. I haved closed my eyes and seen a very cute, 5’1 blue eye blond, relatively new to this club yet had been there enough to build some comfort, singing Kareoke (and most women will agree if they have sung Kareoke probably will pick a sexy flavored song, mine might be “Summer Time”) on FRIDAY APRIL 13,th by herself without a true escort or girlfriend and a soldier to boot. OMG poor Kelli.

I went over them before I ever posted the FB link, there was nothing nefarious.

  15. melissab says:

Something could have happened in/around that bar! RSO did state that her friend left and then Kelli wanted to go home!? Wonder if she might have drank enough to have been incapacitated because she was so small or if she might have been given something? If RSO is (that’s a big IS)telling the truth maybe she did get near her parking spot and see her hubby’s car or even him outside waiting on her and realized pulling up with another man at that hour just might not be a good thing? It’s possible but I doubt it. If Kelli’s bro is staying at her home I wonder if hubby is there with him? Knowing how leery I am of everyone it would be hard for me to stay there with hubby and not be questioning him to pieces!

  16. GeorgiaDad says:

At 0130 on a Friday night/Saturday morning in a military town, there should have been a fair number of patrons in the bar. LE should be able to pin down when she left the bar and compare this to the times on the text messages. LE should also have an idea of when her phone last pinged (was it immediately after the last text?). Did Holbert return to the bar after “taking her home” (he does live behind the bar after all)? Did the owner see his car parked when he closed down the bar? I suspect LE already has this information.

Although Froggy Bottoms seems to have been a den of nefarious characters, there is no _publicly available_ evidence that either man is involved in her death. NH’s alibi is suspect, but I have not ruled out the possibility that this crime is similar to that of Morgan Harrington – a series of unusual events causes a young woman to be all alone when she runs into an opportunistic pervert. The “arrived home” text would seem to rule that out, but possibly she could have texted that as she was approaching her apartment. The case also seems to mirror the Lauren Spierer case in many ways.

Unfortunately, we know a lot more about the supporting cast than we do about the victim.

Melissa, according to this article from Friday, seems brother/family is staying with hubby at their apt:
    http://www.fayobserver.com/articles/2012/04/19/1172262
snipped: “Bordeaux’s family has traveled from Florida to Fayetteville. They are staying at the apartment off Ramsey Street where Bordeaux lived with her husband, Michael. He was leaning on the balcony railing in front of the apartment Thursday afternoon, smoking a cigarette. “Kelli’s an awesome person,” he said, taking a drag off his cigarette. “I just want her back.”"

GeorgiaDad says: April 24, 2012 at 11:18 am …”The “arrived home” text would seem to rule that out, but possibly she could have texted that as she was approaching her apartment….”
GaDad, in article I posted above, brother says BOTH texts were to same friend in FL who had visited a few weeks earlier and met/saw Holbert @ Froggy Bottoms, but brother doesn’t believe she sent those texts…

Danggit, while I was hunting for the article to show Melissa, I saw something stating that LE told Holbert they’d found a bag with shorts and a bloody t-shirt around that pond, and asked would they come back to him–he said no. Now I can’t find the piece. Is this news to you, Ms. Blink?

  18. melissab says:

Thank you TarHeel Gal! Was looking for the video of him talking about the bag and now I can’t find it! Have seen it a million times and now I’m not having any luck.

  19. osu says:

Kelli’s husband told JVM that they never went to bars together, just BWW and they didn’t drink however there have been a few photos of them (at least kelli) apparently drinking. Nothing wrong with that but why not be honest about it? Also the discrepancy about the wedding ring and the marriage. Things don’t make sense.

  20. Flo says:

Jane Velez Mitchell just showed a picture of them in “HAPPIER” days; and she was NOT wearing the ring then either. I lost mine and never got another one. Poor me.

  21. melissab says:

Don’t like the hubby at all!!!! If they weren’t separating, who doesn’t talk to their wife everyday? Hubby said he was visiting family or busy and didn’t think anything about not talking to his wife since Friday! Why did he say she didn’t tell him she was going to the bar? Brother said she was at the bar with a “family friend” so what gives? Someone is lying their head off! I don’t think it’s only the RSO hiding things!

  22. GeorgiaDad says:

The real question to me is: Where did this picture come from? I am under the question that her phone has not been recovered. In that case, the only way LE could have the photo is for the photo to have been emailed or texted to someone.

Possibly she was just sharing a photo with a friend (possibly the “old friend” in Florida), but I wonder if she wasn’t sending this to someone she planned to meet that night.

  23. Flo says:

What gets me is every time some of the shows show the sex abuser, he says something about her Husband coming home on Friday, but they cut it off so quickly, I miss part of it. Does anyone know what the sex off. say about her husband supposed to come home on a friday? thanks.

The husband has to have some proof. His father would lie like crazy if he left for friday.

  24. GeorgiaDad says:

    Re: my earlier post

Since her phone is an iPhone, there is a possibility she may have Photo Stream turned on.

    see http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/photo-stream.html

IF this was turned on (by default it is turned off) and she logged onto a wifi network, the photo could automatically be uploaded – it would not upload with a cellular data connection.

I still suspect she sent the picture to someone, but this is not definite.

  25. Joanne Gardneer says:

wondering why there is not real follow up here. I have all sorts of questions….
-Husband (Only because the majority of cases point here)-what was he really up to and why no contact since the Friday before (why did he need to be told she was missing….confused there.)….I have been married for 17 years…we would still speak at least once per day….weird?

-Sex offender (Holbert)-strange that he would switch from 5 year olds to 23 year olds, (I have way too MH exp. for this to make sense given the info.) but still-has he lawyer-ed up? Why won’t anyone say that?

-Nice on busting the bar “renter” on child support, but is this really relevant? And if so, why?

I just have too many questions that no one can seem to answer with anything really relevant.

  26. involved says:

Heard Mr. Cantrell waived extradition today. Sure these three women will be happy to finally look his sorry butt in the face!!

  27. Flo says:

Kelli, it appears, has no “street sense” because she rode off with a man she had only seen two weeks ago. As she was drinking and had on a cute sexy dress, no wonder what happened.

Any way I thought of some things she could have done even if drunk.
    l. Ask a couple who has a lady with them to drive her home.
    2. If he drives past her apartment, immediately put your hand on door handle if it has one, and get ready to hop when it is slowed down.
2 IF he keeps on going, you hit steering wheel trying to cause a wreck preferly with a cop.
4 IF you are two drunk to do this, pounce over on him blocking his vision or even scratch his eyes or stick finger in ear causing pain.
    5. This a GOOD one I read on a conspiricy site yesterday. A little woman in China grabbed a man’s balls and twisted and twisted until he got to hospital. He died. yes.
Last but not least, since I live alone, I keep by my bedside a can of hornet and wasp spray that they say if you hit mans eyes, he will go to hospital. better than pepper spray.

Flo, Kelli was wearing a perfectly normal tank and shorts, nothing provocative.

I am sure you did not mean that the way some will perceive it, so let’s agree that while I agree it was a bad choice to drive back/forth with someone she had just met in the company of another friend, we just don’t know if he is responsible.

Very anxious to see Blink’s update!

  35. A Texas Grandfather says:

Some have questioned the absence of a wedding ring. This young woman worked in a medical facility. We don’t know what her actual duties were. I have been married longer than most of you have been alive. My work made wearing a ring dangerous so I put it in the jewelry drawer.

This could be the reason she did not wear a ring. It would cause damage of her hand or create other problems in her work.

Redly has raised a valid question regarding what little we actually know about this woman’s behavior with others outside the fact that she was married. She could have met someone that she did not share with anyone of her family or regular friends.

  36. Curious says:

I was hoping for an update this morning. Anything new?

    Tomorrow Morning, I promise
    B

  37. Word Girl says:

ATG, you’re on the beam, as usual, about work requirements and wearing a ring.

In the medical field, the wedding ring is the only one generally ‘allowed,’ but it depends on what you do. If you’re dealing with a lot of yucky stuff that can get in your ring, or having to pull your gloves on and off quickly and often–a big ole solitaire diamond isn’t going to be choice #1.

A lot of medical folks only wear a watch with a sweep hand. I’ve also known surgery techs to sub out their ‘real’ ring with a simple band.

I used to put on a large, faux wedding ring when I went to Home Depot because of the harrassment, but they’ve cracked down on that over the years, as well as I’ve grown older and less attractive to them, I’m sure.

  38. involved says:

Stephan Cantrell is being brought into MA Thursday. He will be arraigned Friday am.

  39. John says:

Maybe the sex offender is telling the truth. Maybe just maybe someone was at her apartment and “She” did not want to see. Maybe she was scared to go home. And the person whom was there at the apartment took her? This may have been stated somewhere already, I am not sure.
