Isabel Celis Missing Breaking News: Investigation Focuses on Celis Relative “Uncle” Justin Mastromarino- Cousin Is Also Former Houseguest

Tucson, AZ- Missing Since the early morning hours of Saturday April 21st from the window of her bedroom allegedly,  the search for 6 year old Isabel Mercedes Celis has taken a turn toward her family.

"Playing Uncle" Photo from FB

On the heels of the appearance of Sergio and Becky Celis first public interview this morning on the Today show, sources inside the investigation have confirmed that Pima County detectives are scrutinizing the prior arrest and prior living arrangements of Justin Mastromarino,  Isabel’s cousin.  Although Justin was the initial spokesperson for the family immediately after Isabel’s disappearance, he dropped out of sight when investigators could not exclude him as a person of interest.

Mastromarino lived with the Celis family for some time in 2011.   The image below was taken in front of the Celis home in June 2011.

Yesterday, both Sergio and Becky Celis visited the Celis home and re-enacted the events of Friday April 20th and Saturday April 21st.

    I have to ask. Social media is eating this family alive. Why aren’t LE coming to their rescue? They could do that in a moment but they don’t..how come?

    Absolutely and unequivocally not their job. They are not a PR service. They are a public agency of civil servants funded by our dime to perform their job functions to the best of their ability.

    In this case, I feel strongly they are.

    B

    I think LE becomes a PR service every day they have a press conference.

    This case took a real turn after the FBI profiler entered the home. From then on the searches stopped and the investigation turned back into the home.

    Since I John Q Public pay their salaries I would like to know in which direction this investigation is headed.

    By the way what did you think of the Opera singing last evening?

    Nope, not their job, and never gonna be their job. That is an unfair burden and an unfair expectation.

    This is a comment allegedly left by the neighbor 2 weeks ago on a blog site called “Three Sonorans”:

    “I am her next door neighbor and my bedroom window is directly next to her bedroom window where she was taken from. At 6:30am Saturday morning I was woken up by my dog barking. She only barks at male voices, which I heard when I became more alert. I didn’t think much of it because it was so light outside and I didn’t hear any screaming or little girl’s voice. I was later awoken at 8am by the cops knocking on my door telling me that my 6 year old neighbor was missing. I felt so horrible because if I was a little more cautious, I might have seen the men or saw what they were driving. I wish I could go back in time and do it differently :(

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Hi Elizabeth, I wanted to share another way we can view LE’s duties in investigating and solving crimes. We may pay their salaries, but LE should NEVER reveal anything to the public that might compromise the integrity of the investigation. And, this includes which direction the investigation is heading. If they do, it can (sometimes) irreversibly affect a successful prosecution and conviction of the perpetrator, and no one wants to see this perp walk. So, for me – as a taxpayer – I like view my tax payments as an investment in solving the case for the community, finding these beautiful children that have been snatched from their families, and taking another perpetrator off the streets, for good.
    By the way, most large (some smaller) LEAs do have public relation officers assigned, but they do PR work for the LEA, not the victim’s families.
    Re: support for the familiy – In some counties, victims’ advocate services are offered to the families of crime victims. This advocate generally steps in to support family after the arrest and near the time of the trial of the alleged perpetrator. Some advocates have their offices in the same building as the District Attorney. Others have “family rooms” at the Court houses set up as respite for familiy members. There have even been cases when local Mental Health Authorities have volunteered the services of their psychologists and psychiatrists to help the victims’ families deal with the trial. I would not be surprised to learn that counseling services have already been offered to the Celis’s gratis.
    And, yes, social media can be fierce and cruel. Those types, imo, are nothing more than bullies. This is why victim advocates are true angels of mercy in my eyes.
    Unless I see evidence that they are involved in Isa’s disappearance, I will continue to fully support Rebecca and Sergio. Btw, I only heard a brief clip of Sergio’s Ave Maria, but what I heard was beautiful. In order to sing it with passion many singers offer the song up as a prayer.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Hi Rose, Watching this video of the parents gave me the sense that Sergio has been told limited details by LE, but is carefully guarding those details to preserve the integrity of the investigation. Seeing Rebecca’s suffering and tears as she spoke about Isa brought tears to my eyes. I liked Sergio’s response when asked if he had anything to do with the disappearance. After denying involvement, he again referenced the investigation, and again said he doesn’t want to say anything that might jeapordize it. I sense from this interview that LE has evedence that was collected inside the house, and it doesn’t point to the Celis’s. This could be shoeprint, hair, fingerprint or blood/DNA evidence. If the abductor is not in the DNA database, my fear is that it will be like finding a needle in a haystack.

    I hope LE are holding the RSO’s feet to the fire, especially the ones in the vicinity of the home. But, I worry about the dangerous pedophiles who are not registered and may have just begun to act out their fantasies. I continue to believe the molestation up the road is related. What’s the chance that a different perp would enter another home 20-30 minutes away and molest a child so close in time and proximity to Isa’s abduction? I am convinced that the perp in that case had every intention of taking that child out of that house had the sisters not been there to witness him. This is a bold, extremely dangerous predator who is so intent on harming a child that he is willing to take incredible risks.

    If the Celis’s read here I want them to know they are in my prayers every day. May God be with Isa and them.

    This is exactly what I would expect them to say, even if they have a prime suspect in their sites, but don’t have enough evidence to arrest.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Below is the link that describes how focused Pima County LE is on finding the perp who broke into a home and sexually assaulted a child just 20 to 30 minutes away from Isa’s home. Note the overall tone of urgency to find this predator. I just read that the amount of LEOs working on Isa’s case have been scaled back. I am wondering if they are assisting in this other case with the assumption the two cases may be related. What’s your take on this, Blink?
    http://www.kvoa.com/videos/sheriff-s-department-beefs-up-investigation-into-a-child-sexual-assault/
    My take is that to date, their has been no exclusion to Isa’s case. That does not mean they are connected, but it means the similarities are under investigation.
    My personal opinion is that the cases are not connected, as this suspect profile is very different, but there may be much we do not know. This instance, if truly a stranger break in, is rarer than rare, as you know. The statistics, if it is a stranger incident, are not good for this offender.
    B
  20. GraceintheHills says:
    My biggest fear, Blink, is that this was a stranger, and he targeted little Isa.
    Many prayers going up for her and her family.
    I am just not seeing that as a possibility in this case so far, not as it has been presented.
    Perhaps the other incidents are related to this one and maybe Uncle didn’t plan on hurting Isabel but something went wrong and he had to keep her quiet. So now he is out doing the other molestations to make it look like Isabel’s case was a stranger and he is not actually hurting those girls or taking them because that was not his initial intension with Isabel. Of course he is not going to kill the other girls because there would be no one to tell the story of the molestation that he is trying to confuse the police with? Does that make any sense at all?
    I personally don’t think the sketch really resembles the uncle. Two or three years ago, that same street had trouble with a peeping Tom. He was never caught but one of the residents felt it was a teenage boy. I wouldn’t be surprised if that same teenage boy is now in his twenties and his perverted activities have escalated. I bet he lives in the neighborhood. The peeper even went as far as scaling walls and getting in between bedroom windows and bushes that were up against the house, so he could get a close up look into the rooms. That’s pretty brazen behavior that seems like it would escalate as he got older and less fearful of being caught. After hearing about the previous trouble in this seemingly quiet neighborhood, I’m not as convinced that Isa’s kidnapping and this incident (involving the three sisters) are related.
    If he bought a lottery ticket, he needed to be 21-years-old, or older.
    He seems to hand something to the clerk before he takes his wallet out of his left, rear pocket. The could have been a driver license/proof of age.
    More horrifying than this is the simple fact we teach our children stranger danger. Well statistics show strangers are less likely to commit unthinkable acts. Admittedly they commit the acts….We need to teach our children about designated adults. Unfortunately this is the world we live in the ones we trust turn on us for any reason.
    Thanks Nana2 for the video link. Just thinking out loud here…could the brother have made the 911 call and being he is of an age that his voice may not have yet gotten deeper (and in high stress situations, voices can even come out at a higher pitch MOO) that the dispatcher or 911 call recipient assumed the boy was a girl referring to his sister?
    Lots of questions to be answered here from this new information.
    Could be the brother reported the initial time wrong but upon questioning, the parents clarified the last time seen as 11PM instead of 10PM? I can certainly believe times and details in the initial report could have been innocently reported wrong for no other reason than frantic panic mode thinking. MOO.
    Interesting article and video:
    “Finding Isabel: The Untold Investigation”
    … snips …
    … “The first call I got about this was from the division captain,” says Roberto Villasenor, chief of the Tucson Police Department. “And his first words were almost, ‘this one feels legitimate.’”
    Saturday morning, April 21st — the father of Isabel Celis realizes his six-year-old daughter is not in her bedroom.
    He says he put her to bed at 11 PM the night before.
    But when the family gets up at 8 the next morning, little Isabel is gone — and 911 is called immediately. …
    … The sun was already up so she didn’t really think anything of it.
    That is, until Isabel’s uncle frantically pounded on her door about an hour and a half later.
    “He asked me if I’ve seen a little girl around here — and I said no. He said his niece was missing.” …
    (CANNOT BELIEVE the neighbor would say the following and on camera, too)
    … “I’ve heard speculations that the family is involved in drugs, the cartel,” Stardevant says. “But that’s just what people are saying. Who really knows?” …
    … Even though the chief is very measured in what he has to say, this is the first time he’s really suggested a possible tipping point in the Celis investigation.
    “The detectives who’ve been working it have gone back over interviews. They’ve talked to people several times. They just need that one break that’s gonna tie things together that they’re suspecting,” Villasenor said. …
    http://www.tucsonnewsnow.com/story/18306084/finding-isabel-the-untold-investigation
    What ARE they suspecting ????
    The cartel comment is beyond my comprehension if she really said that. The “that one break” comment is LEO speak for we are nowhere near solving this case.
I wonder if all of the homes in that area have that brick wall or did the Celis’ ask the builder to erect it specifically for them.. According to the Pima County tax appraiser records the home was built in 2005 & purchased by the Celis family in 2006 & perhaps the wall was a builders extra(?)..
    Also, its one thing for an alleged perp to scale that wall to get to the home, but how lucky was the perp that he actually picked the right window to the room where Isa just happened to be sleeping that particular night.. As hard as it is to scale that wall to get to the home & the window it had to be harder to get back over it carrying a sleeping child & not to wake her in the process.. Getting in one thing but getting out & away another & personally I have a hard time envisioning it.. Where did the perp(s) park the getaway vehicle ? The neighbor only mentions hearing male voices nothing about cars..
    I wonder why LE only brought one son back to the home for the reenactment? I would think all persons present the night of the incident would be there for the reenactment.. Did the young son say something when he was questioned.. MO
    It looks like he bought rolling tobacco (the brown pouch on the counter) and is showing the store clerk his ID
    So, if that’s the perp, they were probably just sun glasses. It shows the location of the store on the picture as well. A Circle-K store, @ 8909 E. Tangue Verde. I hope somebody recognizes this guy. He looks like he’s only about 17/18 yo to me, but then the older I get, the younger everyone else looks. LOL
    I want to know what he bought.
    Wow, sorry Blink, I should have waited to post about the surveillance video until I watched the video, and not just looking at the picture. Please disregard my last post :)
    That would make sense, that maybe it was the brother who called 911, possibly he was even told to because he is more fluent in English than Dad, and the dispatcher just thought it was a girl when he maybe said my sister is missing in a high pitched voice. Just a thought.
    I know many of my high school friends were spokespersons for their Spanish speaking parents.
    Those brick walls are pretty common in the southwest, abode-type homes…partly to keep out wild animals, snakes, etc…I live in NM and they are everywhere…
    Appears to me this guy is possibly not alone, looking toward the door as if someone is waiting for him outside.
    This store is like 6 miles from the Celis’ home. Ya think, maybe LE needs to check out the RSO’s outside of their interviewed 3-mile radius? That’d be a good place to start if your stuck. JMO
    If I’m reading this correctly, according to this website there’s like 208 we know they haven’t talked to, because they don’t know where they are. Good grief. Wonder if any of these guys just recently disappeared.
