Below is a link that gives a Cliff’s Notes summary of the Franklin Scandal/coverup. I did not know this about Wayne Madsen:

“Madsen, a former Navy intelligence officer who says he left the service after reporting evidence that his commanding officer was a pedophile, reports on his subscription-only website that two nationally famous political figures have been aware of a Penn State sex ring but failed to encourage an effective investigation.”

For a reputable author, Nick Bryant, who has investigated child sexual abuse, and has made some comments about Sandusky, go to the link below. Scroll way down and there’s one article you can read. Other links there.

Yes, these people are all trying to sell their books and promote their public speaking. That doesn’t mean they don’t have some worthwhile info to offer. Article titled:

fyi, but erectile dysfunction is generally treated by urologists, or used to be, if Dottie needed an explanation from a doctor in Jerry’s orbit, if that’s the medical explanation he chose.

  7. erose says:

Bucceroni’s story was a twisted, tortured one in the three years leading up to his brief interaction with Sandusky. The Philadelphia native, who now works as a police officer in the city’s public school system, says he was sexually abused by Savitz starting in 1977. Like Sandusky, Savitz met and groomed many of his alleged victims through his work with at-risk youths.

    @rose, wrt ur 2 posts:

Yes, I also saw that Smeal Business School flew a PS student
contingent to Omaha for a day with Warren Buffett. Not alarmed because they’re always trying to find placements for their B-students. Lots of football players get 1st jobs with stockbrokerages. We had stuff up way back, not related to Buffett. And/or I read it but didn’t post. Was looking at another older man who has a “save the poor kids” program; not going to discuss him–more connected to UPenn, Blink is aware of.

Wrt ur other post: I’ve been thinking a lot about whether would offer up other adults, too. But as long as he clings to this delusion that he has a chance w/ an appeal, I’m thinking he won’t do squat. After cold hard reality sets in, he might even be willing to bargain for better living in prison. But u never know. Plus, does the AG want that? All this litigation is costly for the Commonwealth.

  13. beejay says:

Here ya go. Now Greg Bucceroni, one of the victims of Ed Savitz (“Fast Eddie” of Rittenhouse Square; big donor/promoter of Ed Rendell) has now said that he met Sandusky at some fundraising event that Savitz took him to.

Lynne Abraham was the prosecutor in the Savitz case. Rendell worked in the Philadelphia DA’s office, as did Joe Amendola. Savitz died in prison of AIDS; he had unprotected sex with some of his victims.

“Bucceroni says he remembers meeting the man everyone referred to as “The Coach,” Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, who founded Second Mile in 1977. Bucceroni says Savitz and Sandusky knew each other through The Second Mile and political fund-raising events.

“I remember thinking that the Second Mile is going to save me. I have a chance to get out of trouble,” says Bucceroni.

Bucceroni’s story was a twisted, tortured one in the three years leading up to his brief interaction with Sandusky.”

From the Wayne Madsen Report on July 17, 2012

Coverage of the Bucceroni claims about Savitz and Sandusky:

“Sandusky tied to one-time Democratic fundraiser from Philadelphia. Democrat Edward Savitz was later charged with child sexual abuse but he died of AIDS before his trial began in 1993. Police found 312 bags of boys’ soiled underwear in Savitz’s Rittenhouse Square apartment. The mayor of Philadelphia then was Ed Rendell, who, later, as governor, helped sit on the investigation of Penn State and Sandusky. We called thisone at an early stage: the Sandusky case involves the current and past governors of Pennsylvania: Corbett, Rendell, and Ridge. Louis Freeh was brought in to limit the political damage to both political parties.”

By the end of the 1970s and going into the early 1980s, I started to distance myself from adult Mob associates here in Philadelphia and New York, after being influenced in a positive way by the late Philadelphia Mayor Frank Rizzo, along with activists David Fattah and C.B. Kimmins. I developed into a youthful community activist here in Philadelphia.

Unfortunately, John Veasey didn’t follow that path and eventually became a violent adult Mob associate instead. However, he eventually turned FBI witness against the Philadelphia Mob and entered into the witness-protection program.

Today, both of us have worked hard to turn our troubled lives around for the better in assisting those in our communities who are in need.

@Lizzy, For my part in this conversation, I only to convey my frustration that IMO what this lone artist paints should not be the lead story in this scandal. I also have a problem with the sports program debates in the headlines. If it were up to me, and of course it was not, I would put the NCAA and football related sanctions on the sports page, the mural under human interest or the arts, and the victims, TSM, Corbett and other hard news in the headlines. Otherwise, I did not express an opinion, and hope what I did express was not meant to offend anyone.

    Erickson needs to be replaced.
I guess it suits his purpose for media to focus on moving out a statue rather than an administratively close colleague of the 4, and their longtime observor.

So do the 1998-2011 Board members need replacement.

Baldwin states Freeh report was wildly inaccurate wrt HER.
    http://www.pittsburghlegalbacktalk.com/archives/5135

Imo the Freeh report was a waste of PS money.  He only named the Fab 4 who were
or will be prosecuted anyway and publicized “the emails.”  The latter could have been found by the BOT inviting the AG to send the FBI in to search for files & e-records not submitted in compliance with subpoena.

His conclusions (conspiracy of the 4; BOT failure of duty of care) belong in jury trials.  the football culture was evident on its face and had been for years.  BOT didn’t need Freeh to take action.

What is unanswered  are the connections that allowed Spanier to cherrypick and control compliant Board Presidents.  I have no doubt Spanier kept his Board President informed of all.
Just look at the mutuality of decisionmaking between Spanier & Baldwin in 2004 and again in 2010-11.  Look at Garban, a former employee. So how did these functional friends of Spanier become Board chair?  A glance at Baldwin’s former appointment & employment suggests an answer.

Imo the Board Chair appointment was operationally in the hands of the Governors.  The power of the Governor wrt Board Chairs was the power of the purse, the State budget.  And, imo, the budget was a two-way looping street between Spanier/Schultz and the legislative Chair of Appropriations, with the Governor’s Office.  So imo someone hdqtred in Philadelphia was close to Spanier and made the BOT Chair apptmts responsive to both the Gov & Spanier over the years. Freeh’s report is silent about the politics of the Board. .

Want to know what Harold W. Andersen thinks about the NCAA penalizing PSU football? Andersen, implicated in the Franklin Scandal, recently disagreed with a writer at the newpaper he once headed.

That writer is Lee Barfknecht. (I posted earlier a snip from LB’s interview of Tom Osbourne, aging Athletic Director at Univ of Nebraska)

Here’s a snip from a blog entry by Andersen (which preceded, looks like, LB’s July 14 piece). Scroll down to “Penn State Deserve Big 10 Death Penalty? What Chance For Olympic Trials ‘3-Peat’?

“This time, Barfknecht suggested that…Penn State still hasn’t been penalized enough and perhaps should be kicked out of the Big 10.

As I see it, Penn State and the officials involved have been appropriately penalized—firing a legendary coach and a chancellor is pretty heavy punishment, for example. To go further would indicate that the entire institution is somehow guilty….”

I hope I’m wrong. I hope Blink can inform me. But I’ve come up emptyhanded on DeCamp mentioning in his book any link between Sandusky and the Franklin events.

If this is just a publicity stunt to sell books, or for any other reason, I think it’s a bad one. It sure looks like it could be, though. DeCamp gives an interview to an obscure publication in Texas in which he says nothing, but hints that he might have more to say. Stay tuned for Part 2, folks.

Was no one more mainstream interested in DeCamp? (Aside from those 20 or so PA reporters who all called him, because they’d read his book.) And why did he not wait till he reviewed his notes, found his reference (or not); and if he did, make the release of that info count for something?

I’m frustrated. And I’m gonna be really annoyed if this comes to nothing. And most thinking people are going to downgrade the credibility they grant to DeCamp’s work in toto because of this. I’m one of them.

This is exactly what pisses me off beejay. I am very familiar with the Franklin case- which, btw their were very real victims that do not deserve for this issue to be construed as sensationalism.

@a VA CEU class today it was mentioned VA passed an updated mandate for child abuse reporting effective 7/1/12 with a long sweeping list of mandated reporters which tracks Sandusky players: coaches, ADs and Asst ADs, administrators in higher ed, youth org employees etc etc etc
The Gen Assembly wasted no time. Maybe PA can copy the VA law.

  33. Rose says:

interesting beejay that Osborne thinks school based is protective. The high school vic of Jerry’s whose principal allowed him to be pulled out would say otherwise. Over time a school staff would develop a close trusting relationship with mentors. Within the four walls of a school a kid would be more reluctant to break away or reject services. He’s believe it part of the ball of wax of school expectations.
    Isn’t allowed in my County.

As an aside, heard about a Charlottesville case at State Supr litigation level today where the city contracted without bidding out as required under VA procurement law the right for ymca to build a spiffy facility/pool in a lovely public part giving the Y a 40 yr lease at $1 year. The Y had to devote 2 swim lanes to public HS swim team.
A couple other businesses sued: the sweetheart deal wasn’t bid out by County gov’tz
imo anytime favoritism is shown to one nonprofit, and one only, for programs on school property during school day, there’s bound to be trouble someday. Atty Rosenthal’s wife is doing same with her nonprofit reading volunteers in Portland public schools during the school day with clients referred by principals, just like these mentoring programs.. As long as school attendance is mandatory, these sole source deals during the school day on school property should be swept out with a broom.

  34. A Texas Grandfather says:

I am with you 100% about the schools and special consideration given to non-profits for services. This is IMO the decision to allow JS’s Second MIle organization access to the courts and PSU that aided and abbetted the oportunity for criminal activity.

I am not certain that the YMCA is getting money from the United Way in Va. This pool situation has been tried in our area by another non-profit and a high school. It failed and the local tax payers were on the hook for over 2 million.

The more I know about the pedaphile rings operating at Nebraska,PSU and the one in Philidelphia, the more I think that they are all connected. This means that Ed Rendel was compromised in the one in Philadelphia and Corbet has been compromised in the one at PSU.
Both when they were county District Attorneys.

  35. erose says:

    “Bad Beejay” lol.

  36. Rose says:

    Hi, ATG,
The VA thing was the town giving the Y a lovely premier public park site to build on at a rent of $1 yr for 40 yrs, with the Y doing return lightweight quid pro quos to the Town (ie devoted HS team swim
lanes.) Apparently the City can an outright gift to a nonprofit, but if there’s benefit to the town, should’ve followed public procurement bidding. only an example on my part about the trouble dogooders can get up to if laws aren’t followed.

If it was a Child Evangelism org. class in Omaha public schools, that would get attention.
The PS & Omaha mentor programs were seen as good due to reverence for football coaches & players..
Students should not be captive audiences during the school day, to single supplier mentor programs.
For one thing it means “program design” can be done on the cheap to attract students, because they are there anyway.

Judge orders Ellis County Observer Publisher Joey Dauben to forfeit domain name
    Posted on 20 Apr 2012 at 9:04pm

Judge Bob Carroll of the 40th Judicial District Court ordered former Ellis County Observer publisher Joey Dauben during a hearing Friday, April 20 to forfeit his website to the state.

The muckraker said in a telephone interview he is consulting with an attorney and plans to continue fighting what he views as Ellis County prosecutors’ and theRed Oak Police Department’s efforts to silence him by keeping his Freedom of the Press LLC operation shut down.

“I have 30 days to request a new trial,” said Dauben, who represented himself during the hearing. “If that doesn’t happen — if the judge doesn’t allow it — then I’m going to file an appeal.”

Dauben accused Ellis County prosecutors of “criminalizing a civil case.” The Red Oak man should be suing him for libel rather than his being prosecuted on criminal charges, the publisher said.

“If this is allowed to happen, it will start a dangerous precedent,” Dauben said. “No newspaper or other media outlet will be safe from police action.”

Dauben said the attorneys with whom he has consulted have described the case as “bizarre” and unprecedented.

The forfeiture action was taken against Dauben in connection with a criminal complaint filed by a Red Oak man whom Dauben accused of child molestation last year and identified by name, address, phone number and work history.

Dauben wrote the story about the man based on information and documents provided by the man’s ex-wife, who later was charged with filing a false police report.

The publisher, who also is charged with sexual assault of a 15-year-old male teenager four years ago in Navarro County, was indicted by an Ellis County grand jury in January while he was being held in jail in Corsicana. Dauben was charged with “fraudulent use or possession of identifying information” by Ellis County.

Dauben said he believes all of the charges, including the allegation that he engaged in oral and anal sex with the teenager during a church camping trip, came about as a conspiracy to put him away in prison so he can’t report about corruption in the two counties.

Dauben, who has maintained he is falsely charged and innocent, was jailed on $200,000 bond for two months. When the court appointed a lawyer to represent him after he declared he was indigent and filed several requests for legal help, his bond was lowered to $50,000.

He is required to wear an ankle monitor, report weekly to probation officers in Ellis County and Navarro County, refrain from Internet use and not get within 200 yards of any minors.

I get your point about walking around a required bid process. I agree that anytime a city/town or state legal process is pushed aside, someone needs to do an investigation. This is usually done when money exchanges happen.

Thanks Beejay for the link to the Nebraska affilated program run by Tom Osborne and his wife. It is one thing to have written rules and procedures and another to make certain that they are followed at all times.

I have been mentoring young people and adults for over forty years. Most of the programs operated by the schools or affilated with them are way too structured to be of lasting benifit. A real mentor must use their own knowledge and personal experience to help a protegee (not mentee)understand who they are and how to examine situations to make quality decisions about work, school and life in general.

I think there is no set number on the Hershey board(s). As a trust they can have any size board they want. I only heard the rumor that Rendell was exchanging his support of Leroy Zimmerman’s son-in-law for state AG in the upcoming election for a seat. So I am not surprised he has something nice to say about Corbett.

I wanted to ask if you knew anything about Antonio Lasaga. He is a convicted pedophile whom worked at Penn State in the late 70′s early 80′s? I haven’t found out much, but he was discovered while working at PSU and then left to work at Yale where he was caught again but this time convicted and sentenced to 180 months. I believe he had been arrested while at PSU also. Thanks. Steve.
