Megan Sharpton Murder Suspect Taunts Her Family While DA Taylor Refuses To Seek Indictment
Tullahoma, TN-
Friday evening September 7, the rival High School football game of Tullahoma vs. Coffee County Central (Manchester) was beginning.
The Raiders lost 31-21.
What was also underway, was the willful approach by a known suspect in the sexual assault and brutal murder of Megan Sharpton to a member of Megan’s family.
Blink On Crime is intentionally withholding the identity of the suspect as identified in the police report.
The Sharpton family member was aware of the suspects status, and requested assistance at the scene from Tullahoma Police.
The suspect was asked to leave the scene by multiple members of law enforcement.
A response to a request by Blink On Crime for the incident report revealed the report has not been filed yet, but is in process.
Kelly Sharpton, Mother of Megan Sharpton, met with media in the Chattanooga area this afternoon following her most recent failed requests to seek the indictment of Megan’s alleged suspect through District General Attorney J. Michael Taylor.
Chattanooga has not been a high coverage market for Megan’s case, but it is an essential constituent region for Robert Cooper, the Attorney General of Tennesse, whose duties include:
Law Enforcement and Special Prosecutions Division
- Handles criminal prosecutions of securities fraud, public corruption and environmental law violations
- Assists the district attorneys general in the prosecution similar types of white collar crime cases
- Handles other types of civil enforcement actions, such as forfeiture
- Defends the district attorneys general and other law enforcement agencies in actions for injunctions, and to obtain access to investigative and prosecution files

It is amazing that Megan’s family members can keep their cool right now. Are we waiting for “vigilante” justice in this case?
Not saying I am condoning it, just saying that it DOES happen.
This makes me mad. The police were on the scene and did not arrest this person for taunting and threatening a family member. He must really be able to keep the cops at bay for some reason.
The big picture was not really substantiated until after the incident. I completely agree with you that it is maddening.
This family is grieving, and instead of doing that, they are additionally asked to be concerned their for OWN safety as a result.
I cannot count all the possible scenarios for this to go sideways, or worse.
This is not 5 card draw. This animal brutally raped and murdered a woman while luring her under false pretenses.

I saw this coverage for the first time today on our local news (Chattanooga)…I cannot believe today was the first day that it was covered. They did post links on FB as well as a quick story on the newscast.

This is beyond messed up. Is there a way for her family to reach out to large national media outlets with a press conference demanding answers from the DA?!? Sorry I’m just trying to think what might get the LE in the area to get this killer off of the streets!
Meg, all of the national media read here. America’s Most Wanted, Nancy Grace, Jane Valez, the tv stations (local feeding into national) have their representatives scanning all day long. In fact, that’s how some of them get paid, by generating story material.
The reps have even come onto this blog and asked for info to be sent to them. Yep. There is a quiet minority reading here who have a lot of connections.
I think the DA believes he’s doing the right thing by casting a wider net and investigating with impunity before any indictments come down.
But what a risk that is! He’s absorbing tons of policing time and energy to get what? A possible serial tie-in?
Here are some considerations the DA may be wanting to weave together with the death and destruction of Meg Sharpton.

Forgot to add this one to the pile. It’s from July 30, 2012 where a criminal burned a building to cover his murder of a man and then kidnapped his girlfriend, oh, and stole the dead man’s van, but then burned it, also.

Apparently for the suspect to walk down to the jail, ask to be put in a cell while he pens his confession on the way to death row.
Maddening what these people are being put through. When the chief of police goes on record stating HE BELIEVES there is a public safety concern of this person, and the DA response is that he will not be intimidated I am shocked.

Megan was a nursing student who had answered a newspaper ad to be a caregiver to an elderly woman in July. When she showed up, she was brutally attacked. The cause of death was blunt force trauma. Her body was found burning on the roadside.

Kelly Sharpton, though, says she is running out of patience quickly. She knows socially the person believed to be responsible for Megan’s murder, a man she calls a predator who had made contact with and threatened her family at a Tullahoma High School football game last Friday.
“My daughter-in-law was there at the game,” said Sharpton, “and he approached her and physically tapped her on the shoulder and talked to her and I think that’s a little bit scary if he’s bold enough to approach our family. What else is he bold enough to do? He is the prime suspect, after all.”
Sheriff Fuller, who has been anticipating an arrest for some time now says he worries about public safety.

HENDERSONVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
A 15-year-old is in custody, accused of murdering his mother at their home in Hendersonville early Saturday morning and attempting to set the home on fire to cover up the crime.
Police were called to a home in the Creekside subdivision shortly after midnight.
When officers arrived on the scene on Gannett Road, the house was on fire.
Police say the teen used a blunt object to bludgeon his mother to death, and then intentionally tried to burn the house down.
Police say the woman’s other 16-year-old son was asleep, but woke up because of the smoke detector. The 16-year-old found his mother was and said she was “bloodied” inside. She was later pronounced dead. The 16-year-old is not believed to be involved in the murder.
Police say that the 15-year-old then went to a Thorton’s gas station on Belvedere Drive in Gallatin. He threw his cell phone in a field, but police were able to track the GPS on the phone, and located the 15-year-old on nearby Browns Street. He was arrested around 6 a.m. Saturday morning.

Hendersonville is located on the NE side of Nashville. By road the distance is about 80 miles. About an hour and one-half distant in non-rush hour traffic.
The mother had made this child very angry. Some children are very vindictive when denied what they want.
This guy is insane! He is not listed as a sex offender from what I understand, but he has a prior arrest for rape with a plea deal?! It has been about 10 years ago. He is extremely dangerous- I live in West Tennessee…and this is way too close for me. Thanks for all you do Blink!

This story has really angered me. Can the Sharpton family at least file for a restraining order? This way, if he were to come up to one of them again he can be arrested for violating that order? There must be a way the police can get him in jail without the DA’s approval.

Mr. Taylor is stalling and he is not communicating. While Mr. Taylor is stalling and being, well, you know, hard to reach, Niecey has had some eyes and ears to the ground and WORD has gotten back, that not only is the main “person of interest” stalking the family and harassing, he has tried to get some other young girls in the position for him to strike again and while I cannot reveal his name and his UGLY mug shot, I can tell you that he was arrested for rape in 1993 (in another county) and they gave him a plea deal, he is not even labeled a sex offender. He also had a prior rape that wasn’t that terribly long ago, in which the victim chickened out and refused to pursue charges, because she was so afraid of this TWISTED, EVIL, PIECE OF GARBAGE. In a recent confrontation he told a young woman that: “I’m M*****F******___________ And You Don’t Want None Of This.” There was a police report filed.

At the football game I saw a guy taking a smoke outside with his kids, and these 3 people two guys one girl, were eyeballin him pretty hard. Any way when he set threw down his ciggeret and was waking back the girl rushed over and grabbed it. Dude saw her and asked what she was doing, then the two guys got involved. The ciggeret guy with the kids called an officer over, told him what happened, then the officer told him to go back to the game, that he would handle the people who grabbed the cig butt. I’m curious is this the incident that you were talking about?

Ok I figured it was. But from what I saw, it was the group who approached the guy and he called the officer. I knew the officer , Mr.Tate. I left while he was talking to em, but he seemed to be giving them an earful. It being the coffe pot, I figured it was just the normal craziness that happens, now I wished I had listened in more.

Niece, I am wandering if you and I are talking about the same person that might be involved in the murder of Megan. His name is Ricky Dale George,he is in Coffee County Jail now.. He has not been listed as a sex offender till recently after I contacted prison after prison threatening them that I was going to take the story to the news. He was a registered sex offender in Ga that was transferred to 2 TN prisons and neither of them registered him as a sex offender in TN. Since he was released he has been in trouble left and right with attempted murder charges, domestic assault charges to drug charges to driving on revoked. My daughter Is 20 and has a prescription drug problem. Her car was broke down and this man (53 yrs old) picked her up on the side of the road and has kept her drugged up on Meth since. She is no coherent enough to leave on her own and police can’t make her leave bcuz she’s considered adult. I don’t know what to do? But I do know that this psycho is from the are where this girls body was found.
Mr. George is not involved with Megan’s case that I am aware of, but how utterly devastating to hear about your daughter. My prayers are with you and she.

I’m assuming Megan’s murder was not an isolated, personal incident, since the Sheriff said it’s a public safety concern. If this guy strikes again, wouldn’t the DA have a big lawsuit on his hands? After all, he “knew or should have known” of the danger this guy posed to the entire county and did nothing about it.

One of the articles states that investigators have amassed a mountain of both circumstantial and direct evidence against this guy. Isn’t that enough for probable cause to arrest? For heaven’s sake – the DA doesn’t need to build his entire case before an arrest is made, does he?

How does this DA sleep at night?
Unfortunately he probably sleeps well. That’s the problem with a lot of things like this.
FCSD is probably just as frustrated as we all are. And I can’t even begin to imagine the family’s anguish.
I know the names are being kept hush hush for now, but a little part of me says just release the names and it will flush them out and help protect the family and community.
But I know that’s not how it works.
Is the suspect’s father a doctor or do I have the wrong id?
If yes, is it possible the DA is involved in some drug related activity that is the true source of his delay?
Is there no one for this family to appeal to? Surely the prosecution of a murdered cannot be left solely in the hands of one unwilling (at worst) or unqualified (at best) DA?
