Gosh, just looking at this teen knowing what he did to cute little Jessica makes my arm hair stand up. I wonder if that string on his neck used to hold a cross? HTH do parents, siblings live with someone like this and not get any vibes of his capabilities? I’m curious if he’s had any past problems. Prayers.

  7. Tarheel says:

Not sure what led Police to him, but according to this article he turned himself in?

It will be interesting to learn Austin Sigg’s behavior leading up to the brutal abduction, murder, and dismemberment of Jessica. Was he always a bad kid? Did he exhibit behavoral red flags? Kill pets? Have unusual interest in morbid topics?

    Is he schizophrenic?

I would not be surprized if his mom turned him in not only because it’s the right thing to do, but out of fear. He may have been escalating for some time and she may have been afraid of him. She did the right thing.

  9. twinkletoes says:

Wow, that is one sick 17 yr old. There has got to be a heck of a backstory to this character. Unless he has some massive chemical catastrophe going on in his brain, he is old enough to know right from wrong. I am glad the mom had the courage to turn him in.

  10. Classygal says:

Holy crap!!!!!! I just don’t know WHAT to think anymore.

  11. Jane says:

Also, since Mr. Sigg is being cooperative, do you think he’ll admit to what he’s done and possibly any other unsolved crimes? My God parents, hold tight to your young kids. It seems there’s a boogy man around every corner.

    He already has.

  12. Monroe14 says:

Wow. I came to the site and kind of just scanned over this story, thinking it was the young man suspected of murdering Autumn only to have my jaw drop when I finally focused on the words ‘Westminster’ and ‘Jessica Ridgeway’. My god, what is the world coming to.. So disturbing that in addition to the senseless murders of 2 young girls, these families will be losing their young sons as well. And on top of that, it appears both lives were taken (or at least evidence was stored) in these boys’ family homes. Looks like we have a new breed of monster, folks.

  13. Joan T. says:

YAYYY! He was caught! I’m SO GLAD!!! So relieved.

Jane, I read in USA Today that his mother was the one who called the police, but she points out that he then turned himself in when the police arrived. So, at least the mother knew.

This is such good news. And they caught him so quickly!

  14. Edward says:

    Notice the Necklass

  15. Monroe14 says:

Also have to add, I read the AP is quoting his mother as saying “I made the call. He turned himself in”. Kudos to the mother in this case as well as Autumn’s case for making that unthinkable phone call to turn their children in, as we have seen so many unsolved that points to family covering up for the perp.

  16. Edward says:

We have 2 cases here where moms turn in the murder suspect.. Their own sons.

  17. twinkletoes says:

CSI award winner. Now that’s interesting.

As egregiously unprofessional as this may sound, I literally threw up when I read his bio and saw his pic.

This is going to be one dark-ass hallway we head down to understand this boy.

I knew you’d be typing away even as I messaged you, Blink. I am relieved he is off the streets, my family members in Denver can breath again.
How bizarre to have two cases with teenage boys involved in as many weeks. Prayers for the parents of all these kids, how awful and sad.
God speed, Jessica and Autumn, sweet angels now that will never know fear again.

  19. wpg says:

    (snip)
“”I made the phone call, and he turned himself in. That’s all I have to say,” Mindy Sigg, Austin Reed Sigg’s mother, told the Associated Press, before she broke down in tears and hung up the phone. This is the second report of a mother alerting authorities about her son suspected of murder.

Sigg was arrested after police reportedly received the phone call from his mother on Tuesday night that led them to his home near Ketner Lake, about 1.5 miles away from where Ridgeway, 10, disappeared.

Sigg, who had aspirations to become a mortician, confessed to his mother prior to his arrest, KDVR.com reported.”

    Sheer horror.

  20. BlackPearl says:

It is good news that they’ve caught the guy, though it doesn’t bring Jessica back.

Seeing how young this perp was surprised me too. The fact that he looks so young, and the brothers who murdered Autumn were 15 and 17 (?) makes me feel that this is an issue that needs to be addressed– how boys are being raised into men in contemporary society.

I know some people have mental health / personality disorders from birth/a young age, but are we (families, friends, teachers, coaches, the community) doing enough to try to intervene at any early age? Trying our best identify these kids asap and get them intense cognitive/behavioral therapy in hopes of changing their course in life, or at least trying to dull their sharp edges… and then keep a close eye on them as they grow up.

    So sad for Jessica.

My daughter is five. I am having the “password talk” tonight with both my children as soon as we get home.

Do it when you can be calm. A lot of your discussion is going to include questions from them about their fear and knowledge levels. If they sense your angst or fear, they may temper their responses to please you at that age, just fyi.

  26. twinkletoes says:

I am absolutely serious when I say that there sure seem to be a lot more hard, cold young people these days. What is or isn’t developing in them? Is it just that we hear about it more because of greater access to news or is it that young people are more violent and less empathic than the youth of 30 yrs ago?

  27. Jane says:

#22 He aspired to be a mortician. That really peaks my curiousity as to wth else he may have done. I wonder what exactly he actually told his mother. Does he have a Dad and siblings at home? Anyone know if that cross is off of that string that is pictured around his neck?

Was his father also completely out of his life as was the case with the two young murderers of Autumn?

Some brain tumors can stunt growth and cause violent behavior. He was only 5’6″ and 160 pounds, plus very pale, both of which are signs of hormone deficiency, which can both be caused by a pituitary tumor.

Amy’s sister- or he could be short, suffering some sort of post-offense psyche event and anti-social.

Video of interview with girl who states Austin was ‘emo’, shy/quiet, rode a scooter, hung around young girls a lot and liked playing capture the flag with them.

Lovely and sharp young lady, however, what parent is allowing that age child to speak to the media in this case?

  32. Amys Sister says:

For those who don’t know emo = goth.

  33. Jane says:

Is anyone in Jessica’s family, the jogger or her family familiar with this teen or his family?

  34. Edward says:

I suppose the Mortuary science and possibly GOTH? is that immaturity? is going to come up in his defense on how he treated the victim after death. In my mind there is no defense if he has in fact done this murder.

Interesting he had to actually say it to his mom. I’d place my bets she already knew.

I applaud her for turning him in. I may be far less positive as we learn his psyche background.

I firmly believe this kid exhibited every sign we all know to look for.

I want to see a pic of his room.

While sadly, it is no longer so uncommon to see murder committed by juveniles, I have been just floored all day at this one. The organization he has shown is astonishing.

Then, as I streamed the news, and they uncovered his interest in forensics, I wonder… which came first? The interest in forensics, or the interest in murder? Did one feed the other?

If the interest in killing came first, do you think he would have been so organized without the interest in forensics?

There had to be a certain… level of depravity brewing in this kid for a loooonnng time. How was this missed, as he lived at home?

Is there any precendent for this level of organization in one so young? I don’t know of any… and remain… astounded.

A little, albeit scant and retroactive. Because similar cases went on to other- I would say the biggest thing I need to know, which appears negative, is whether she was sexually assaulted.

So far, all his friends and neighbors have been saying he seemed normal and nice. How strange. This is info I’m gleaning from other sites.

(Unfortunately, the Denver live feed news won’t run in the browser I’m using. I use a Mac and Internet Explorer won’t run on it.)

Anyway, that’s so unexpected to me, that people are saying he’s a nice kid. There’s even a facebook page where some friend of his is saying he’ll stand by his friend, that this isn’t really like him at all, and that he should be forgiven. That Jesus forgave the man with the demons.
