Missing NC Woman Holly Fischer ( UPDATE BODY FOUND): Pending Divorce From Ali Girit Upset Her- Tennesse Police Ask For Public Help

Holly Christine Fischer, 39, has been missing since Monday May 27th.  (UPDATE: THE BODY OF HOLLY FISCHER HAS BEEN LOCATED NEAR HER CAR, WHICH WENT OVER A CLIFF OFF OF 16 IN NC)

She has not been seen nor heard from since leaving her parents’ home in Knoxville, TN according to a missing persons report filed by her Father Ted.

Ted Fischer described his daughter as “upset” when she left the home Memorial Day- over her pending divorce from estranged husband Ali Ozan Girit. Fischer states that he spoke to Girit and inquired as to his daughter’s whereabouts but Girit proclaimed he has not seen Holly since she left Tennessee.

Holly Fischer, a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Parsons School of Design was a regional sales manager for Discovery Communications through last year.

She has worked in the fashion and design industry for brands like Club Monaco and DKNY.

Girit, a competitive bodybuilder and training manger of LA Fitness according to his linked in profile, signed over a deed to the couples Huntersville home in January of this year. Girit is a former resident of Weehawken, NJ and worked security in New York City in 2009.

Holly Fischer left her parents’ home in Knox County on Monday May 27th and friend Liz Stafford Ajello called the Fischer’s when Holly had not arrived by Wednesday. Ms. Ajello went as far as to suggest foul play is involved in Holly’s disappearance.   Police are focusing their efforts on the area approximately 100 miles  away based on pings from Fischers phone in Ashe and Wilkes counties.

Coward said Fischer’s father told authorities his daughter was upset about her upcoming divorce.

“Her parents seem to think she might have decided to go to Ashe County, to collect herself,” said Liz Stafford, who said she has been a friend of Fischer’s for more than 20 years, dating back to their days as students at Charlotte Latin School.

    Eloise,

My apologies. I definitely wasn’t clear on the credit card/debit card.

I meant Holly reportedly used a credit card in Newport, then a reported debit card in Jefferson . . . questioning the different cards – - a Bank issue debit card which would show real time transaction; a credit card issued “debit” that may have a posting delay; a credit card only.

Your reference to a high school physics student is a stretch for most students.

The problem is ,as related to my question, who did the calculation? I have seen state troopers that could not calculate the speed of the vehicle from skid marks. Maybe Virginia troopers are equipped with a computer program to do the calculation.

If this is accidental, there could have been an attempt to avoid an animal. Unless the animal is a 300 lb. bear, on a narrow road, I will hit the animal rather than risk loosing the roadway. The ranch road that I travel to the main highway has a lane width of ten feet and sometimes the shoulder is less than 18 inches. While the differences in elevation between a roadway on the side of a slope in my area are a maximum of 300 ft vs the 800 ft. in the area of this accident, a vehicle will still have much destruction.

Anyone who drives while texting is risking death. We have lost eight teens in our area in the last three years because of texting while driving.

  5. Leland says:

I’ve produced this image to try to demonstrate to those who imagine an accident due to inattention or falling asleep exactly what must transpire to create the same ending result. The period of COMPLETE inattention would have to be about 5 secs. That is a very long time for anything short of a medical condition blackout or heart attack, etc. Just dozing off, texting or adjusting the radio or reaching into one’s purse, one would still have at least 3-4 secs to be brought back to attention by the difference in sound of the texture of the pavement. Then there is still a second left to swerve or hit the brakes leaving some kind of proof of accident. This also is unlikely since attention was obviously there for 2-3 secs BEFORE becoming totally oblivious for at least the next 5 secs. Plus whatever caused this kind of inattention would have had to happen at just the right moment. This is why I’m convinced this was no accident. Just thought I’d share this. This still doesn’t help explain what DID happen, unfortunately.

    I shouldn’t have said this:

Seems more likely her car was pushed off. Yes I know LE says car was traveling 30 mph. Car could reach that speed pretty fast when in a virtual free fall.

As ATG pointed out, LE can calculate the speed of the car by using evidence at the scene.

I agree that falling asleep at the wheel is not very likely.

A medical situation where one’s focus did not include braking or that caused an inability to brake did cross my mind but, as you stated, it would have had to have happened at just the right moment.

Also believe that if the speed of the vehicle was indeed 30mph that foul play seems unlikely.

  9. wpg says:

Offering this scenario with caution – - – I’m thinking LE may have had an indication early on, perhaps at the scene, of the time of impact(s).

A trademark feature of Infiniti is an analog clock.
The 2004 FX35 has the clock centered on the dash but positioned low down, more or less in line with or slightly above the top of the gearshift handle. It also appears to be fairly inset.

When the electrical source, the battery, was disconnected the analog clock may have stopped in its place at that particular time (unlike a digital time display), and may have been intact enough given its position and insetting.

If my understanding is inaccurate on the workings of a vehicle’s analog clock, anyone please feel free to correct.

Presuming it survived the crash, and that their was no battery supply to it following, it is entirely possible wpg. Good catch.

    Good work Leland

As an experienced driver, this road if familiar, could be driven at 45 or 50 mph or greater if the engine power was sufficient.

I am thinking that LE do not have the actual speed of the vehicle and they are basing their findings on posted curve speeds in the area.

There is no information known to me, on how far down the cliff the car and body were found. Blink in answer to a post indicated two windows were destroyed in the vehicle which may have allowed the body to eject. The cliff is steep enough that the searchers were forced to use rope to rappel down the face.

The foliage in the photo taken of the track is very dense. The google earth photos were taken at a time when the trees would be almost bare. This photo also shows that a large tree was in the track path of the vehicle. The force of the fall may have allowed the vehicle to bounce off of several trees prior to coming to rest. This was not a free fall.

I still have doubts that this was an accident. Your photos and timing reinforce that doubt. A scene that comes to mind is that someone or more than one staged the scene.

The vehicle could have been driven to the site and positioned carefully and then something heavy placed on the accelerator to hold it down to drive it over the edge.

Depending on how far down the cliff the car was found would make it difficult to recover. I have nothing to indicate that it was recovered.

  12. Leland says:

Was the car in drive or neutral? Will they ever be able to determine that, I wonder.

  13. Word Girl says:

    Christy, you’ve been missed.

Thx Leland for the graphic–I’m always impressed with the talent here.

Does everyone think the car was driving downhill and not uphill prior to dropping off the roadway?

  14. wpg says:

    A Texas Grandfather says:
“There is no information known to me, on how far down the cliff the car and body were found.”

^^ Reported found at 800 – 1,000 feet down the 1,200 foot cliff/ embankment. Also reported that rescuers Tuesday morning pushed the car down the remaining 300 feet or so to the roadway where various rescue vehicles could then have access.

  15. Inda says:

    @Leland

If I understand your image correctly Ms. Fisher would need to drive just slightly further around the curve then steer slightly to the right in order to replicate the line law enforcement indicates. Would that be right?

  16. wpg says:

Hadn’t seen this video report before.

Shows more of the slopes of the grassy area, as well as up close footage of sheared off tree damage (significant, imo) from impact just past the end of the metal guard rail.

Includes brief one-on-one interview with State Trooper Brian Sharp (sp?) regarding initial observations.

  17. Leland says:

    @ Inda

Yes, if a person were “steering” at that point. But then there are other ways to replicate that line as well.

Unfortunately, we have little evidence of what DID happen but I think there is evidence here of what DIDN’T happen.

This image illustrates how much time an “inattentive” person would have in order to “wake up” and try to make a “corrective” action. This event was not one of those “oops, I’m off the road and over a cliff because I took my eye off the road for a second” type of events.

  18. A Texas Grandfather says:

    wpg

Your post about the analog clock may or may not be accurate. Many digital clocks have been built with analog faces. My wrist watch is digital with no numerals on its face, just gold lines where the numerals would normally be. It has a sweep second hand that moves in a way that one can tell the watch is digital. Some of my grandchildren and great grandchildren have to be taught how to read it. Makes an interesting conversation with them.

I think Holly’s vehicle may have been going up-hill, but that may or may not be true. I could not determine, from Leland’s photo, any positive tire marks at the roadway edge.

If this is determined to be a staged event, the car could have come from either direction and then turned around downhill of the point where it went over.

I hope LE is spending time getting information from all the locations where Holly stopped for food, gas, ATM or any other stop she may have made.

  19. Word Girl says:

Leland and all, do we know how dark that road is and if it is possible to drive straight off that curve? When I drew lines they didn’t seem to match up with where Holly’s car went off the road.

The shearing force on the tree and the guardrail may give us some information on speed and direction.

I’m beginning to confirm in my mind that this was an accident. However, a Blinkster I will ever be and stay open to the evidence.

I would simply caution we are all still awaiting “evidence” as to the conclusion of this case. Sometimes, it is elusive to get us there.
Then all that is left is presumption. I pray that is not the case here. I admit that the thought of the open-ended opinion that this was a suicide is more than unsettling to me.

  25. A Texas Grandfather says:

    wpg

Go to google and look up a quartz clock.

What that description for the clock in the car is referring to is the quartz crystal that is the oscillator for the clock. This the same way that computers keep time for the entire system. A computer is known as a clocked logic system of a particular type.

A quartz clock movement is digital. A precisely trimmed crystal is excited with a dc voltage and the result is then routed to a divide circuit made from flip-flops to divide the frequency in a way to provide correct ones for the various functions of the system. The display is referred to as analog because it does not use just numerals as in an odometer. The old style clock face is considered and analog display.

The entire control system for this vehicle is digital. The clock has been chosen as a unique item for sales purposes. Since most do not know how digital clocks work, they referred to the specific component that creates the frequencies.

  26. wpg says:

    A Texas Grandfather,

I welcome the correction and explanation for “digital”, so I thank you.

I’ve been trying to source out the difference between the “hands” of the analog clock versus an LED clock read out. In my experience an LED clock in a vehicle will revert to 12:00 when disconnected from its power source. The answer to what happens with the “analog” clock (the position of the clock’s hands) in a 2004 Infiniti FX35 when it loses its power source is what I’m seeking.

  27. A Texas Grandfather says:

    wpg

You have found the one thing that an analog clock face has that digital clocks do not. When power is removed, the hands remain in position. This is a form of memory.

If you have a battery operated or AC operated clock with an analog face in your home, try removing the power source and see what happens.

I believe that you were looking for something that would indicate the actual time vehicle was plunging down the cliff and at what time the clock ceased to function would be an indicator. Unfortunately, analog faces for the most part just cover twelve hours. There are few analog faces with 24 hours marked.

  28. A Texas Grandfather says:

I pushed the submit button too fast wpg.

If you want to experiment, try removing the power from a true digital faced clock in a vehicle. What will happen is the clock has no power and the LCD or seven segment LED display will go blank.

When power is restored, the clock automatically loads the 12:00 from a position in memory and waits for someone to change the clock to the correct time and restart it.

  29. wpg says:

Holly’s friends seem to have gone quiet.
    Blink, have you heard anything?

Only that they have been told the investigation is ongoing, and to my knowledge they are all adamant that this was not a suicide.

The rest is really tabloid-ish details on Girit. I can safely say he is an insensitive louse, and he has NOT been honest with Ms. Dreher if she is being truthful about her accounts of Holly and Ali’s backstory if you will. I am not a fan of cheaters or homewreckers regardless of potential for involvement in Holly’s death.

  30. GeorgiaDad says:

I have been on vacation the last week, and was somewhat saddened when this case hadn’t been resolved.

It seems to me that the information needed to determine if foul play is involved is already known to LE, but not publically released.
    1) LE should already know when her phone stopped moving. I would anticipate geolocation by cell towers alone would not be very specific because of the mountainous terrain, but it should be obvious when the phone stopped moving. If the phone continued to move after Monday, then foul play is suspect
    2) LE knows where the debit was used and should have contacted the merchant a week ago or more. There may be video. There should definitely be a record of what was purchased. Is this something she was prone to buy? Is it something a suicidal person would buy (alcohol and pills would fit, a manicure set or book would not)? It also could be something that suggests she was not in possession of the card

One issue that has recently bothered me about this case is the reported speed of the car. 30 MPH seems too slow. If this were suicide (my personal suspicion), I would expect the driver to press down on the accelerator and speed up. If she were a distracted driver who just happened to find the one opening a car could pass through, then at that speed should would have ample opportunity to correct her course.

If this were foul play, the only reasonable mechanism I could envision would be if she were incapacitated, placed in the vehicle, and a well-trained driver drove the vehicle and jumped out at the last minute. Placing a heavy object on the accelerator would cause the vehicle to speed up rapidly, and it would be difficult to keep the steering straight enough in a driverless car to follow this path. Possibly the driver could drive most of the tire-tracks path, stop the vehicle and then place her in the body and somehow restart it, but it would be difficult to get the car to 30MPH in a short-enough distance so that steering wouldn’t be an issue, especially while maintaining a normal appearing tire track in the grass.

If the debit card checks out, the ping record shows no real movement after Monday, and no autopsy shows no drugs or bullets or other evidence, this will be written off as an accident.

There are many states with problems regarding old and outdated methods for medical examiners and coroners. There are also police labs in many of the large cities that do not do quality work. All it takes is a few who are not willing to do the work they are hired to do to compromise the system.

Whose fault is this? The people need to be more alert to who and how public service people are doing their jobs.

In the referenced article, the Sate Medical examiner was handed a task without any means to set and maintain proper standards.
This is the fault of the state legislators who did not understand how to craft a bill to correct the issues. How many times do legislators have to create law and regulations for something they know little about? Then there is the problem of having young inexperienced staff do the final regulations that are not properly reviewed to ensure that they are doing the proper job.

This is a major problem in all areas of government regulations.

Just want to give some of you a heads-up on more shenanigans from the Virginia LE community. Three young women who had attended a “Take Back the Night” seminar at UVA were assaulted by ABC agents in the parking lot of a nearby grocery over the purchase of a carton of bottled water, a carton of ice cream and cookie dough. This is being carried on WND and the Daily Caller.

These thugs were in plain clothes and seven of them rushed the car without identification. The driver of the car was placed in jail for 36 hours on false charges. The county prosecutor Chapman managed to get the charges dropped after 80 days.

This is an assault on the public by an agency that is out of control. The people of Virginia need to stand up and put a stop to this. No one was injured, but it was because the girls were not armed. This could have resulted in the needles deaths of all three young women and several of the agents. The young women were identified, but none of the agents have been publicly named. Every agent involved needs to loose their job.
