Dr. Phil Show Hosts Missing Portland Child Kyron Horman’s Step Mom Terri Horman Over Two Episodes

I have been covering this case since Kyron Horman disappeared from Skyline School in June, 2010.    Like most missing persons cases I have covered in the past,  I am of the strong opinion that best efforts at the truth are the only way to propel investigations that, similarly to Kyron’s, have gone cold for one reason or another.   This approach has worked in resolving some of my previous cases.    I am proud of that.  I remain steadfast to the integrity involved in those and future cases.

Over the past 10 months (or so) I have been developing an updated series on Kyron’s case to include my multiple interviews with Kyron’s step-mom,  Terri Horman.   Needless to say as she was the subject of at least three simultaneous cases before an Oregon court and remains a person of interest by the agency investigating her sons disappearance, this has been an arduous and sometimes delicate journey.    Ms. Horman’s experiences during the ongoing investigation of the disappearance of Kyron Horman are critically important to propelling his case and with great hope- finding the truth about what happened to this cherubic and innocent child.    There are dozens of sources,  collateral interviews, forensic experts and legal analysts that also contribute to my series and have done so because of their belief that my motivation is to bring to light information and opinions in such a way that would almost “require” a focused review of Kyron’s case and the likely shaking of that proverbial tree everyone talks about.

Set to publish about 6-ish weeks ago I was asked to postpone the first installment of the series, which I did.  I subsequently learned Ms. Horman was participating in the Dr. Phil program after she completed taping.  Dr. Phils producers were well aware that Ms. Horman had interviewed with me extensively, and anticipated my series would be publishing information that was not known to the public previously in the days prior to her scheduled episode.    When Ms. Horman conveyed to me that she feels obligated to speak out about “her son” in any national medium that will have her,   I most certainly respected that.  I still do.

While Dr. Phil seems like a gregarious fellow for sure,   I have zero interest in being associated with his program, nor do I believe his shows content is designed to do any furtherance of investigation or truth.  There is much concern (although I have no affiliation to the show whatsoever) that the timing of the publication of my series on the Kyron Horman matter might be interpreted differently or inadvertently contribute to the programs content or audience reactions.     Not what I signed on for.   A missing 7 year old boy six years running is not a framework for entertaining a target audience.   He is not fodder for online social media bully campaigns- yet it occurs.

I will be publishing my series on Kyron’s case at a later date, in it’s entirety with no editing adjustments as a result of any of the appearances on Dr. Phil.   I appreciate your patience and your understanding.   Feel free to discuss the show below.

I kept waiting for Terri to say, “They SAID the polys were failed,” but I didn’t hear that. I’m hoping Terri is aware she may likely have been misled and lied to by LE about failing. We know, of course, that the tests failed her.

I intend to publish the specifics on the tests- I think she is of the opinion inconclusive as to the hearing or not- the statement she failed 2 and walked out on a 3rd is patently false. I hope MCSO takes this opportunity to inform Kyrons bio parents.

One more thought about the SF – when I read the requirements for applying to be an IB school, it was clear to me that the youngest grades were not required to produce something like this – participation of lower grades was optional, but the school chose to go ahead. Perhaps it was only the youngest grades (1-3) which got moved to Thursday to make more time or space available. That also would explain why the district IB administrator was there on Friday (I think she would have wanted to see the upper grades’ presentations, since that’s what counted for IB acceptance), along with having good parent PR.

We have assumed (at least somewhat) that SZ’s carry in stuff (if there really were any) was SF related – but it could have been anything – someone mentioned something for the talent show as a possibility. If all the presentations were done on Thursday, it doesn’t seem like it would be for the SF on Friday.

It is my impression that the displays “with” presentations were conducted on Thursday because that was the class presentation requirement for Kyron’s. I know some of the younger kids had group projects like a butterfly release outside, etc. I think you raise a really great point about the carry in stuff, except to say TH did not know this til Fri so the presumption would (or might) neither did anyone else.

One always thought repeated Sauvie searches and Hwy 30 refs related to misinterpretation by mcso of Terri’s
“pings.” Now one learns it could be related to the 7-11 direction seeker. Maybe mcso settled for the lic plate and id’d.
Maybe mcso held it close because he had a reason to be at Skyline on 6/3. (like watching his son present). And then mcso decided there was a nexus to the Horman family, so his activity was most likely motivated if not planned by Teri. Two Sauvie residents come to mind: DAD and the houseboat family system, motherinlaw of Brian living next door to Terri. Maybe Wendy put Tanner on TV against MCSO advice to be exculpatory of the family system.

@MBS. My dau was in an IB Middle which rigorously adhered to The Program.
Nevertheless, IB Middle vastly differs from IB HS.
And IB eled differs from middle. I know Skyline was IB Middle, was it also el ed IB?
My dau had 3 yrs of Sci Fair in IB Middle.
There were no oral SF presentations.
A student stood by his project during tour time to answer Qs.
One had a writeup meeting the rubric standard at one’s trifold (or whatever) display.
There was no different more rigorous standard (or rubric) than at any nonIB County middle SF, except there was always a final writeup paragraph to the rubric where a studdnt selected one option from say 3 canned IB standard choices and applied it to his project (ie this project meets world community values because…)
I can’t remember the 3 rubric “world” options to chose among when writing; I grew to hate their cardboard, earth is flat nature..

With the SF presentations being on Thursday before the open-to-the-families/public Friday tour, I’m curious if/why Kyron wouldn’t have come home after school Thursday talking his cute lil head off about his and classmates’ talks, excited or unhappy about his own presentation, tipping Terri (or Kaine) off that the presentations happened that day. Hopefully clarification will be in Ms. B’s piece, if it’s important. Just seems odd a kidlink that age wouldn’t be chatting up a storm about Tanner’s and Billybob’s and Sammyjoe’s and his own presentations.

I thought the Dr. Phil pieces were woefully soft (on PMcG’s part) from any aspect of advancing the goal of finding this little guy. I honestly believe he could bring some serious heat to this case with his visibility. Where was the investigator that was in the audience when the bios were on with his info?! I thought Terri looked nice (but I do love a pattern! :) ) and I have hair envy with that lovely shade of red (I stopped being boxed dark brown last summer and who knew ALL this silver was under there??!!) and I found her focused and believable, considering the format of the show. My heart did catch once when I saw her lean to her left to look around PMcG–I just knew an ambush by a Hater or bio was coming! So glad he didn’t stoop that low.

I was referring to the alleged (by DY) phone call received by DY of a crying Kyron, who wanted to come live with her and she allegedly drove up to get him at some point in time when Kaine was away. I wish Phil would have asked TMH about that particular occasion and whether or not it even took place.

Actually, she started to. Kyron DID become upset that he missed his Mom after an extended stay as opposed to bimonthly weekends. Terri asserts that to address his feelings she said why don’t you call your Medford Mom (not making a judgement, that is how he referenced her in differentiation) and tell her. He did. At no time did Desiree Young drive to Portland and pick up a crying Kyron and return to Medford as she stated. That is a lie, no question.

Schreiber said Kyron was supposed to perform in the school’s talent show at 1 p.m. but she didn’t see him there.

Here’s another person who said that TMH & DY were friends, this one is a friend of Terri’s. My guess, and it’s only a guess, is that either KH or TMH, or both together, conjured up this story in order to cover-up the fact that KH was having sex with TMH while KH was still married to DY, so that KH didn’t appear to be the cad he was, and TMH didn’t appear to be a homewrecker. Someone obviously told Kaine’s relatives and Terri’s friend(s) these things. I think it was a joint fable that TMH & DY were friends. I’m sure Blink will get to the bottom of it.

Authorities say Horman has been extremely cooperative. She has also been criticized for posting on her Facebook page about going to the gym in the midst of this tragedy, but loved ones say she is devastated by the ordeal. “She’s a mess. I talk to her at least every other day,” says Jennifer Jones, a close friend. “She sends me text messages at random and says, ‘I miss my son; I want my son back.’ It’s heartbreaking to talk to her.”

By her own account, Horman toured the school’s science fair with her stepson on the day he went missing, dropped him near his second-grade classroom as the 8:45 a.m. bell rang, then assumed he was fine until she went to meet his bus at 3:30 p.m. In addition, her father tells PEOPLE, police have given Horman at least two polygraph tests (police have not revealed the results), have searched her house more than once, taken her truck twice and interrogated her for up to six hours several times. “The finger points back at stepmoms,” says Moulton. “She’s trying to be cooperative.”

So far, those who know Horman have only good things to say about her and her parenting skills. The second of her three husbands, Richard Ecker, who adopted James before he and Horman divorced, told The Oregonian, “She would never hurt a child.” If anything, her family has seemed a happily blended bunch-and Horman, says her friend Jones, “is the binding that holds the book together.” Before Kyron was born, Horman was friends with his mother, Desiree Young, 38, and his father, Kaine, 36, a supervisor at Intel. While pregnant with Kyron, Young filed for divorce; two years later, sick with kidney failure, she traveled to Canada for treatment.

“Kaine being a new father didn’t know how to raise a baby by himself,” says Jones. “So Terri stepped in-and being friends with Desiree-said, ‘I will come and I will help you take care of Kyron.’” Jones says after the divorce was final, a relationship blossomed between Kaine and Horman, “and they have been together ever since.” The couple wed in 2007. In essence, says Moulton, Horman “raised Kyron since he was in the cradle.” Last week Young released a letter to Kyron that read in part: “I would give anything to run my fingers through your short hair again. … I am afraid I can’t live without you.”

@rose – I heard what you heard above. My point was that no one said something like “well, that’s what I was TOLD” in a way that made it sound like it was not necessarily a fact. Nobody has made it plain to the general public that LE can not only withhold information, but can give false information with the excuse that it will further the investigation somehow.

  32. rose says:

One of the strengths the investigation should have incorporated, but estranged, was Teri’s unique ability to familiarize the public with kyron: his personality, daily life, preferences, strengths and weaknesses. There was no one better situated to engage and inform the public about him. I hope a lot of humanizing of kyron is a section of the interviews.

The people over there at the crater are buying into SG’s ridiculous theory that Dr. Phil invited TH onto his show so that he could show everyone how many lies she told. Phil deliberately encouraged her to lie on his show(unchallenged) so that people would know she was lying. There are some over there that even believe that Phil used secret body language to indicate TH’s deceptive comments.

Can you imagine that theory is beyond ridiculious Dr. Phil has a national show it will be rerun for years he’s not going to let anyone state a fact on his show that he has not had verified by his experts. There may have been things that were omitted but you can bet statements like “there were no cell towers on Sauvie island on June 4 2010″ were verified by his staff before TH ever was allowed to state it. As far as calling people out with secret body language I don’t always watch Phil but if he had wanted to call TH a liar on his show he would have done so and not with secret signals.

I have never seen such a bunch of idiots as the sheepie’s who post on SG hater website. And SG is the most deranged of all of them. Who makes their life about stalking 2 people. And make no mistake her Facebook page has nothing to do with finding Kyron its only about harassing Dede and TH. As with Dede no amount of truth will make her stop her harassment of TH because SG has a mental problem that causes her to compulsively stalk other people to fulfill some sick fantasy that her miserable life has meaning.

    Water seeks its own level.

Super Interesting how they were frothing at the trough for Phil to tear her apart and when it was clear he beat her up for the sexts but believes her re Kyron, it went silent. DY called her a liar, with zero examples of what she lied about AND Terri was asked to reply to DY’s own comments in the first place.

For those that clearly do not know how this works- TH tapes. Phil producers make calls and fact check all over creation, asking for rebuttal or comment on anything Terri said they could not verify on their own. Then… they edit. This guy makes his living from exploiting lies- yet they think he is going to risk looking like a putz in sweeps week? Come on. I repeat- nobody has come forward to “correct” a lie because Terri told the truth.
