Dr. Phil Show Hosts Missing Portland Child Kyron Horman’s Step Mom Terri Horman Over Two Episodes

I have been covering this case since Kyron Horman disappeared from Skyline School in June, 2010.    Like most missing persons cases I have covered in the past,  I am of the strong opinion that best efforts at the truth are the only way to propel investigations that, similarly to Kyron’s, have gone cold for one reason or another.   This approach has worked in resolving some of my previous cases.    I am proud of that.  I remain steadfast to the integrity involved in those and future cases.

Over the past 10 months (or so) I have been developing an updated series on Kyron’s case to include my multiple interviews with Kyron’s step-mom,  Terri Horman.   Needless to say as she was the subject of at least three simultaneous cases before an Oregon court and remains a person of interest by the agency investigating her sons disappearance, this has been an arduous and sometimes delicate journey.    Ms. Horman’s experiences during the ongoing investigation of the disappearance of Kyron Horman are critically important to propelling his case and with great hope- finding the truth about what happened to this cherubic and innocent child.    There are dozens of sources,  collateral interviews, forensic experts and legal analysts that also contribute to my series and have done so because of their belief that my motivation is to bring to light information and opinions in such a way that would almost “require” a focused review of Kyron’s case and the likely shaking of that proverbial tree everyone talks about.

Set to publish about 6-ish weeks ago I was asked to postpone the first installment of the series, which I did.  I subsequently learned Ms. Horman was participating in the Dr. Phil program after she completed taping.  Dr. Phils producers were well aware that Ms. Horman had interviewed with me extensively, and anticipated my series would be publishing information that was not known to the public previously in the days prior to her scheduled episode.    When Ms. Horman conveyed to me that she feels obligated to speak out about “her son” in any national medium that will have her,   I most certainly respected that.  I still do.

While Dr. Phil seems like a gregarious fellow for sure,   I have zero interest in being associated with his program, nor do I believe his shows content is designed to do any furtherance of investigation or truth.  There is much concern (although I have no affiliation to the show whatsoever) that the timing of the publication of my series on the Kyron Horman matter might be interpreted differently or inadvertently contribute to the programs content or audience reactions.     Not what I signed on for.   A missing 7 year old boy six years running is not a framework for entertaining a target audience.   He is not fodder for online social media bully campaigns- yet it occurs.

I will be publishing my series on Kyron’s case at a later date, in it’s entirety with no editing adjustments as a result of any of the appearances on Dr. Phil.   I appreciate your patience and your understanding.   Feel free to discuss the show below.

OT @TRuth. Thank you, just what I sought. I was ready to see if amazon could ship 2 barn owls as the co. does everything else, but decided on the lessor intervention of two pry lid buckets from the paint shop, which a handyman has taken home to drill holes. Thus I returned the 27.50 professional trap. The issue with buckets is a rat dying where dogs could eat etc. I have decided to ignore that. ATG will be proud we are as citizens petitioning our govt for a program, as they do more services, and codes, than County. and on a macro level will insist Council go after County regs change. They’ve spent hundreds of thousands on lawyers to lobby for pet projects, why not rat regs? ATG, I did catch my own bare foot in rat glue trap; I’m done with those.

The stepmother of Kyron Horman, a missing Portland boy, stands trial in California for an unrelated crime. Terri Horman, also known as Terri Moulton, is facing a grand theft firearm charge- a misdemeanor.
Horman sat in the courtroom for day one of her trial in Yuba County, north of Sacramento. It’s not clear if she will testify on her own behalf.
A judge denied KGW’s request for a camera in the courtroom. The trial is expected to last two or three days.
Prosecutors called a deputy police officer and Horman’s former roommate to the witness stand.
In August 2015, Donald Goines reported Horman had stolen a handgun from a safe in his Marysville, California home. When contacted by police, officers say Horman had the stolen gun in her possession.
Horman has long been the focus of investigators looking into the disappearance of her stepson. Kyron Horman was last seen on June 4, 2010 at Skyline School in Northwest Portland. He has never been found.
Terri Horman has never been charged in the case and has denied any involvement in the boy’s disappearance.

My comment was based on not seeing any other news organizations covering the “TH trial” and those of us interested would only have one reporter to rely on, I wasn’t politicizing. The only reason this case is of any interest (as it should be) is TH’s relationship to Kyron, otherwise a gun theft case would be of little notice to anyone.

  19. Rose says:

“it is my belief true investigative journalism, which in my view has a responsibility to reveal truth as it endeavors, is rare.” that is true in many media outlets. In historical centers for journalism though ie, Nashville, St Louis, Atlanta, LA, NY, DC, Chicago, the UK, Paris, there are many many fine investigative print journalists. Unfortunately, lessor privately owned businesses publishing digital click bait hacks seem to saturate the market. I was affected I guess by Huckabee’s rant yesterday against most press. thinking back to Lady Bird owning a lot of TV stations, I don’t know that owners who dominate a market with political povs is new.

    If
“warm pie” suggests “close to home” let me echo ATG saying there is no better, brighter group of posters than on this thread, nor a better analyst/moderator, such that I am here and nowhere else. And, I believe Kyron’s abduction is solveable,

    I was suggesting however the
“people who stick their fingers in” to be those acting in person –chalk and stalkers at the Moulton home or Skyline School; and those tying crap onto walls or benches at the Edge or Skyline; moving 2 disabled kids whilst virtually homeless into the Horman home to have intercourse with him whilst being billed online by others as New Mother, but actually assuming that social role at the school; a School Resource Officer in King County or her ex perhaps luring and entrapping Terri (you know more than we do); a TV talking face (on kgw) taking every opportunity to paint Terri as a harridan or guilty as hell; print “reporters” like Maxine and Slovic who take no time or interest in investigation and critique of same. I do not mean Soldier’s mislead “posters”. I mean principal actors. Frink. Krafve. Ramirez. Heidi. All of whom had an “angle” on this investigation, and the ability to impact it for Kyron’s good, but did not.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The stepmother of Kyron Horman, a missing Portland boy, was found not guilty of a gun theft charge in Yuba County, California.

Horman was accused of stealing a handgun from her former roommate. The trial was unrelated to Kyron’s disappearance.

Terri Horman, also known by her maiden name Terri Moulton, was facing a grand theft firearm charge, which is a misdemeanor.

The defense did not call a single witness, including Horman, during the two-day trial.

Prosecutors called a deputy police officer and Horman’s former roommate to the witness stand.

“I spoke with a few jurors afterward and they were unsure if she intended to permanently keep the gun,” explained prosecutor Ashley Tuft in an email to KGW.

And no one imo can rely on kyle for any story’s “reporting.” He’s just no longer credible. But, we know kyle would not have live-streamed if Judge permitted a camera because he didnt live-tweet, which he would have if he cared about the trial itself. no, he wanted a camera for a distorted clip using a sight bite. I was reacting to just having heard a screed against alljournalists directed at many fine journalists in person in an historically exalted briefing room. I think Blink’s key word is investigative.

@ATG yr story reminds me of a childhood playmate classmate. Brighter than I, a Dallas News scholarship in journalism to Vanderbilt lifted him from our shared poverty to a famed sportswriter career. And of Helga Henry who edited not only husband Carl FH’ works, but she once told me other theologians like Frank Gabelin.as well and doubtless made these men what they were in print.

Not erose but wanted to address my thoughts on the camera in the courtroom issue. I am a huge proponent of transparency as y’all know- I have not seen the order re KGW media request so it may have only been a request to film during the hearing. I doubt very much KGW was willing to set up a pool camera for the hearing and more than likely did not include any assurances about editing after the fact. I am AGAINST allowing cameras in court for media outlet use that are not live streamed and/or allow access to an unedited version should the outlet use snippets.
