Dr. Phil Show Hosts Missing Portland Child Kyron Horman’s Step Mom Terri Horman Over Two Episodes

I have been covering this case since Kyron Horman disappeared from Skyline School in June, 2010.    Like most missing persons cases I have covered in the past,  I am of the strong opinion that best efforts at the truth are the only way to propel investigations that, similarly to Kyron’s, have gone cold for one reason or another.   This approach has worked in resolving some of my previous cases.    I am proud of that.  I remain steadfast to the integrity involved in those and future cases.

Over the past 10 months (or so) I have been developing an updated series on Kyron’s case to include my multiple interviews with Kyron’s step-mom,  Terri Horman.   Needless to say as she was the subject of at least three simultaneous cases before an Oregon court and remains a person of interest by the agency investigating her sons disappearance, this has been an arduous and sometimes delicate journey.    Ms. Horman’s experiences during the ongoing investigation of the disappearance of Kyron Horman are critically important to propelling his case and with great hope- finding the truth about what happened to this cherubic and innocent child.    There are dozens of sources,  collateral interviews, forensic experts and legal analysts that also contribute to my series and have done so because of their belief that my motivation is to bring to light information and opinions in such a way that would almost “require” a focused review of Kyron’s case and the likely shaking of that proverbial tree everyone talks about.

Set to publish about 6-ish weeks ago I was asked to postpone the first installment of the series, which I did.  I subsequently learned Ms. Horman was participating in the Dr. Phil program after she completed taping.  Dr. Phils producers were well aware that Ms. Horman had interviewed with me extensively, and anticipated my series would be publishing information that was not known to the public previously in the days prior to her scheduled episode.    When Ms. Horman conveyed to me that she feels obligated to speak out about “her son” in any national medium that will have her,   I most certainly respected that.  I still do.

While Dr. Phil seems like a gregarious fellow for sure,   I have zero interest in being associated with his program, nor do I believe his shows content is designed to do any furtherance of investigation or truth.  There is much concern (although I have no affiliation to the show whatsoever) that the timing of the publication of my series on the Kyron Horman matter might be interpreted differently or inadvertently contribute to the programs content or audience reactions.     Not what I signed on for.   A missing 7 year old boy six years running is not a framework for entertaining a target audience.   He is not fodder for online social media bully campaigns- yet it occurs.

I will be publishing my series on Kyron’s case at a later date, in it’s entirety with no editing adjustments as a result of any of the appearances on Dr. Phil.   I appreciate your patience and your understanding.   Feel free to discuss the show below.

Hah. what a soap. The 2 boys in the Patton case above found themselves civil attorneys happy to file a tort for $12 Million against the corporate successor of that Beaverton DKWilds club that the boys allegedly met Patton at (if true, giving that PPB Det jurisdiction). Wonder what the settlement was?

just boys who hung out at seedy porn shops.

“a Portland area porn shop called DK Wilds. Two days before Coverdale’s death on April 21, 2011, Wheeler and Swanlund met with him to craft a new will that would leave the adult entertainment businesses to a trust in the names of Coverdale’s two sons.

Wheeler, who had served as Coverdale’s CPA, was named trustee. He was responsible for selling Coverdale’s assets, which included his home and the porn shop property and building.

According to the court document, Wheeler wired $737,502.16 from the Coverdale estate to West Coast Bank to buy out that line of credit on Trotter Downs Phase II. But while Wheeler took the majority of proceeds from sales of the first three houses in the development, he never reimbursed the trust that Coverdale established for his sons.

The IRS declaration accuses Wheeler of lying to the mother of one of Coverdale’s heirs, telling her that the trust had been frozen due to a $12 million lawsuit in which two boys accused employees and customers at DK Wilds of molesting them in the “video viewing booths” of the business.

Then, according to the documents, Wheeler used much of the remaining Coverdale funds to charge airline tickets, spend the night in the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, buy expensive meals at such spots as the Bridgeport Grill, and spend time at a strip joint (Stars Cabaret).

Wheeler also wired money into Swanlund’s bank account, according to the document, and made a loan to their joint business (the now-defunct Club Rouge, a Portland Gentleman’s Club), gave $3,960 to his ex wife and $4,000 to his fiancee.”

Addendum, Chocobot: Follow the link provided above to the O-Live articles covering Patton’s plea deal and sentencing in 2003. Please note that Patton’s own high-priced defense attorney, Michael Levine, while speaking for Patton and explaining and mitigating Patton’s conduct, said that Patton’s “repressed homosexuality” had messed with his mind and given him for a time the mind and emotionality of a sixteen year-old. Interesting “fodder”, eh Sparky? Sounds like what’ll come from Sandusky…..

It is not clear how Patton and the victim knew one another. Lufkin told PQ Monthly in August that he believed Jonny Bladimir Landa-Aburto — at the time arrested on charges including sodomy, sexual abuse, and luring a minor — served as a “facilitator” between the two.

  9. A Texas Grandfather says:

“On that note, a very general comment you have probably seen me reference previously-as a country, I think we need to do a better job screening, training and reporting on our service personnel.”

“If you have an individual who has mental or behavioral issues going in-it is more than likely going to exacerbate them and often does.”

The military has always had problems with some individuals because they do not screen recruits carefully enough. As a child, I observed several men who served in WWI that were traumatized by their experience in battle. Today, that is called PTSD. In that time it was known as being “shell shocked”.

Following WWII, the military draft was left in place. All young men had to register for the draft at age eighteen. Subsequent to registration, within the next four years, all had to report to a draft center to take a mental and physical exam so the military would have information about each person.

It has been over sixty years since I took that exam, but I still remember the experience. There were over 200 potential recruits that day. The mental part was about formal subjects such as English, math, reading comprehension, tools and other things found in everyday life.

The highest score that day was mine-a grade of 99. I could not score 100 because of a math question that was improperly presented. It had been in existence on the test for eight years when I fount it. The Captain in charge verified that it was incorrect and removed it from the test. This tells one that the military does not carefully police and inspect their processes and procedures.

We had a lot of guys that scored less than twenty. The grades were posted outside the hearing test room in alphabetical order. The guy ahead of me was transferring from the Navy to the Air Force. He found his score of 56. Then he stated that it was the highest score he had ever made on the test. This indicates the low level of education of the average non-commissioned troop.

There were no interviews of any of the potential recruits to determine their mental stability. That would leave it up to the actual recruit team if it was ever done.

I guess there are 30 somethings whose “repression” leads them
to prefer teens, and it seems some State cultures accept opposite sex but not same sex and sodomy and not computers full of child porn and liaisons at sex video shops’ private cubicles. For some reason imo the MC DA and local DOJ went real easy on this repeat offender in 2013 when there were 2 separate charges, which makes no sense as his cohorts were locked up in Wash Cty. I can see some citizens writing letters to a judge about the good he’d done in the Portland gay community.

  12. rose says:

one of the articles above said PPB Det Windsor specifically targeted Patton, despite the preceding investigations of Wa Co and Beaverton detectives, due to the involvement of DKWild (where the boys apparently serviced motley men and Patton). At the time of that targeting, Bridge Advisors partnership had been founded in 2009, the principals in 2011 had directed DK’s will writing just before his death and locked in their personal control of his assets and milked his estate of its value, a couple million anyway. And imo a lot of Lake Oswego/Portland businessmen, say even judges and DAs or private attorneys, didn’t want Bridge to unravel. Imo some investor(s) in that professional class suggested to PPB to target Patton and get a quick lenient plea to shut down public knowledge of the Bridge ponzi scheme in which DK was a victim, and shut down oublic knowledge of the Bridge parnership’s close personal ties to a sex video shop owner. .

  15. rose says:

here’s my inference: A professional in Portland— lawyer, cpa, investor, politician—has as a “best defense” owning or coowning or controlling in an estate, a strip club downtown (such as Rouge) or an upperend video viewing shop or such like, because he woukd have access to patrons’ credit card billings, store surveillance tapes and customer lists and patrons such as ADAs, cops, judges, and businessmen would know that even if it were not explicit. Imo the media/political/LE coverups re SZ are probably just the tip of the iceburg of everyday business in Portland.

Well, I can only add that if SZ is a sexually motivated pedophile, chances are less than 1/3 (potentially, stat) that he uses adult porn that could be found there as opposed to illegal pedo porn and porn depicting sexual violence, unfortunately.

I haven’t been following the Delphi, IN murder cases, but of course I’ve looked at the girl’s photo of the suspect, etc. So on a whim last week I googled “reddish brown hair” sex offenders, and this story came up, which is just flippin’ unbelievable:

“Man Who Repeatedly Raped His 12-Year-Old Daughter Released to Repair Relationship With His Sons”

    https://jezebel.com/man-who-repeatedly-raped-his-12-year-old-daughter-relea-1788027697

The photos of this man seem similar in features to me as the suspect in the Delphi case. I spent some time googling and I found it interesting that there is a Martin Joseph Blake listed in Indiana, who is the same age (and name) as this guy. However, I can’t be certain it is the same dude as now living as SO in Montana. If it’s a different MJB, doesn’t mean there aren’t family ties, etc. to Indiana. I’m posting a few other links for ya’ll to take a look. Probably a long shot, but if this creep was forced to stop “REPEATEDLY raping” his own daughter and yet as you can see was not imprisoned, makes one wonder if he took up his desires elsewhere. This man looks angry that he was stopped in his arrest photos, like he wants to get back at someone. But it appears he may be too tall to a suspect in the Delphi case. Still, I hadn’t seen this story and it’s unbelievable, I hope the judge was relieved of his duties.

    T. Ruth,
The suspect from Delphi is described as “not having blue eyes”. The creepy mccreep father has blue eyes. I don’t know why it states not blue eyes unless it is perhaps because of something like Parabon DNA that I have seen discussed where they try to predict physical characteristics of a donor.

Ode, I think you may be on to something on that- thank you for adding it the overall discussion here.
    For those unfamiliar : https://snapshot.parabon-nanolabs.com/
As Ode points out, I have only seen that particular descriptor in DNA snapshot profiles.
Hopefully this dispels the long held notion (by some) that full DNA profiles cannot predict certain ancestry markers- they absolutely can, and it is one reason why familial DNA should be used in cold cases (RAMSEY) whenever possible.
I also now wonder if the sketch composite was not derived from that as well. It seemed unbelievably detailed to me for someone to get from a witness per se. If they had a phone image that clear I am sure they would have released that.

Unfortunately if they have DNA I also have to assume that dude they recently named a POI is out by now.

Scientists are at the beginning of understanding DNA. Sometime, in the future, they will understand enough to predict all the structural elements of a person from markers found. Familial DNA is going to be very important in building that knowledge base.

The problem we now have is keeping LE and the courts up-to-date with proven findings. This means proper resources must be allocated for this education.

I’m not so sure that those detectives who have worked his case and are leading into retirement is such a good thing, because I wonder if new detectives will be as attached and dedicated to finding answers. I do though, hope new leadership will result in some sort of new direction, as we’ve seen the previous one go nowhere. I wonder who volunteers on the cold case unit?

    ********
If he’s 50, and jr of someone, that person would be around 70 yoa, still working for MCSO????

May not be him at all, but only one I could find and since he was running for MCSO I figured it was him. I hope it is, and he doesn’t retire anytime soon.

Certainly may not be his pic and could be that of an individual that charity benefits? At any rate, I appreciate that updated agreement as I had not seen it- I just wanted to provide context as you point out – but it is definitely not a recent pic of Sgt. Gosson. Agreed on the longevity.

Lindstrand retired in May 2016, I had a link and it darn disappeared.

Don’t see her in PERS, but one can always liquidate an account (appears Yankee did) and I think the db only contains active accounts for disbursement.

I think under Staton, Gosson went to “Inspections”. Whatever that is.

org chart updated again on 11/6
    https://www.mcso.us/site/pdf/org_chart.pdf

there are now 4 coequal Chief Deputies.
2 tippy top promotional pathways in Corrections now.
I bet this paves the way for a new position,
    Asst Sheriff, after the election.

Balizan now has chief deputy in front of his name.
I guess he got qualified & certified in Oregon and
    plans to stay.

I think I missed Capt Alexander moving to corrections previously. You may recall he is the former PIO.
Looks like I do not see that position updated on the chart- I think you pointed that out previously Rose.

  48. Rose says:

M Lindstrad went from PIO in 2010 to Corrections & was promoted w/in there until she made Chief Deputy, Business replacing Yankee, then was reduced to Acting after the Settlement between mcso/Yankee, then when Reese arrived returned to Corrections (Facility type job iirc). So PIO to Corrections was for her a promotion path to attain higher ranks.

  49. Rose says:

iirc the last PIO was C Gaidos who was
just promoted a rank and iirc is in Court Services now.
