Possible Link Between Vernon Seitz Case and Daniel “Danny” Barter Missing Persons Case
On December 15, 2008, Vernon C. Seitz, 62 yr old white male is found Dead on Entry appearing to be of natural causes. On December 12, 2008, Dr. Victoria Fetter, Seitz’s licensed psychiatrist contacted MPD to discuss her patients intent to confess to a homicide he was forced to participate in, following an alleged abduction, sexual assault and torture by unknown subjects. Mr. Seitz states he and another victim were abducted while on a family outing to Racine Zoo on June 19, 1959. There is no report of this incident or any remotely similar incident on file and It is the opinion of MPD this never occurred . Upon reading initial press on this incident, I prepared my own investigative article provided below.

Upon further research I note the article where the psychiatrist references the date for the 
first time, of Seitz’s alleged account, as June 19, 1959. This date immediately sparks my interest as I had been profiling possible links to this case by cross referencing missing children cases of boys, of which Seitz appeared to posses an alarming interest. I reviewed the data regarding the missing person’s case for Daniel Barter:
Daniel Barter has been missing from Alabama since June 18, 1959. Daniel was last seen playing near the banks of Perdido Bay where he had gone camping with his parents, siblings and other relatives. Daniel reportedly disappeared from the campsite while his parents were preparing some fishing equipment. Daniel did not like water; therefore it is believed that he would not have gone into the bay voluntarily. An extensive search for Daniel ensued immediately, but he has not been seen or heard from since that time.
From several various online sources, the following supplemental information from the Barter family should be considered:
Daniel was holding a bottle of Nehi; the bottle was never recovered at the scene. In any scenario other than abduction, based on the exhaustive search, this would have been recovered.
Mrs. Barter recalled a man sitting outside their home in Mobile on separate occasions. One incidence his footprints were located outside of Danny’s window. Both incidents were based on eyewitness accounts.
While at the store in Lillian the morning of the abduction, Danny and his brother were in the car while Mrs. Barter ran into the store. A man pulled up next to them, appeared to do nothing but watch them, did not exit to go to the store, and then left. The older Barter sibling remarked to Mrs. Barter upon her return to the vehicle that the man was just looking at them, but obviously made him uncomfortable.
Daniel was dressed in only gray Boxer shorts which he wore to bed the previous evening, when he disappeared.
Bloodhounds repeatedly followed his scent to the road.
From Seitz On Scene Recovery
In addition to referencing to Mr. Seitz account and date-specific statements regarding abduction and homicide, the following items were recovered from the scene that may be relative to the Barnet case. Although PIO Anne Schwartz has stated publicly that Seitz’s property in Racine, inherited from his deceased Mother Mildred in 2006, has been searched, there is no public record of a warrant for same. Additionally, there is no indication of a warrant for any vehicle owned by Mr. Seitz :
There were 4 freshly dug dirt piles, or evidence of apparent ground disturbance, on Mr. Seitz’s property. According to weather analysis on December 10, the last known witness account of Seitz being alive, there was 13” of snow on the ground already, therefore the ground would have been very frozen:
A cassette tape and cassette video marked “kidnapping of a 4 ½ year old boy”.
A black and white photo of a boy, white male, holding a fish, with “July 1959” handwritten on the back.
A letter from the White House. The Barter’s had strong Washington contacts and received a letter from J.Edgar Hoover at the time of the abduction. Did Seitz have a copy?
Significant amounts of Child Pornography, hand drawn maps and missing children’s cases posters and maps with circles indicating various locations.

Mr. Seitz appears to have relatives in the Mobile area. Specifically, his grandparents, Mildred and Raymond Seitz, and his brother Karl had an address in Birmingham. Several cousins as well.

Richard K Francel, who was quoted has a warrant out for his arrest, issued December 18, 2008 for driving with a revoked/suspended license.

Just goes to show the truth can come out even if years later. Gotta love these people willing to research and investigate this stuff for so long.
Then again…although it seems so long ago, those how loved and lost this child probably feel like time has stood still somedays…and that it’s been eternity others. God bless those families! Hope I never have to go through it.

It broke my heart. Even if it turns out Seitz cannot be tied to Barter, I hope it might shed some light anyway on any cases potentially involved. The first thing I thought of was that his mom must have sold him. But, he was treated like he was abducted, because of the legality of selling a child. Possibly purchased by a single man. For some sick reason, young mothers think that as long as a boy has a dad, they’ll be o.k which is why there’s no record of him disappearing.
Certainly, a boy who is either sold, or abducted into an underground world of trafficking, tortured or was used to torture others would have links to that life-style, pervert thoughts, the desire to control, etc. There’s a good chance that he would grow up to be an offender, himself.
Although, I think the obit in the newspaper is a cry for help. Perhaps a young man that was sold into slavery to another man. Torture completely crushes the victim’s personality to the point where they have to recreate themselves. They learn to be completely humble and obedient. The letter is written in that tone, imo.

I agree with Beth. In fact, that was the first thing that I thought of. Did the police run luminal tests around the area of the torture equipment. Sweat, blood, spit all kinds of body fluids could be released from the body… depending.
They must have suspected something, because of the holes in the back yard… I assume they were dug by the police. If not, there’s a good chance someone found him dead and took as much evidence as they could take in one trip.
When police stumble upon cases like these, they don’t think about laying low and hanging out to see who shows up. They put up the tape and flash their lights… alarm the whole neighborhood.

I agree. The DNA tests could not be back and therefore why announce closure of the case?
Regarding Hope’s thoughts on Danny being sold by the family potentially, I do not believe that is what happened here. Although, there are really only those 3 options when dealing with a non-family abduction:
1) child abducted by someone wanting a child
2) child abducted for nefarious means: sexual predator, retribution or to hurt the parents.
3) for personal gain.
Regarding Seitz scene, there’s more that I uncovered and have handed over to MPD; when they have had time to work through it I will post it.
Suffice it to say I truly do not think this case is being taken seriously and I think that is a big mistake and I intend to keep on this.. This guy contains every marker for the makings of a Child predator and very little is known about the specifics of what was found in that house. What is on the close to 300 videos?

I was speaking about the old man that died. The one that used to tell the story of his abduction and about being forced to kill a young man… the one that said that he had been abducted at the zoo. I believe that he may have been sold and that’s why the crime was never reported. He, probably, grew up thinking that he had been abducted. He would have grown up to be an offender. Isn’t he the one that painted pictures of young men, or boys being tortured?
I believe that he may have fallen off the deep end. And I believe it possible that he could have abducted the 4 1/2 year old boy. I also believe that he would use torture to mold his victims into being so scared, they would never run away.
When assessing the obituary, I believe it is a cry for help from one of these boys that he abducted, tortured and sold to another man that poses as his ‘father’… maybe they made periodic visits.

‘Yes, Master.’
That is, in my opinion, the type of young man who would be writing these obituaries.

Regarding the memorial obit, I agree with you, and it was deleted completely, not even in archives, when this piece went to MPD, in advance of posting here. I read that to mean there is something to it..

Just because there are records that a person existed, doesn’t mean much. Why would anyone make up a story like that about himself… and shouldn’t it be taken seriously when you find that this person had torture devices and 300 reels of XXX video tape in his home that he inherited from his ‘mother’?

I think that some of the posters here are thinking that Seitz is the one that kidnapped Daniel.
Daniel was kidnapped in 1959. Seitz would have been, what,10 or maybe 11 years old. Maybe the story he told is true.
But, the thing to remember is that these people do tend to form their own ‘private’ relationships with what they perceive as their community. And, it does run in families. It also runs into extended families and pours over into the households of neighbors and friends.
This is a madman.
Have you done any searches into related crimes in the area of his home ie. sexual child abuse or abductions? Remember, there were 4 graves out there. I wouldn’t say anything to the family. Daniel could be alive and starting any sort of media circus could put lives at stake. imo

I reckon that the family ties to pedophilia go back to to family ties to the church and a bad priest. Blink, have you been able to locate any family history of church attendance? We know he was buried in a Catholic ceremony. We also know that the catholic church condoned molestation by moving and hiding priests that were offenders. When VS was a young boy there was relatively no reporting of these bad priests to LE. That’s my angle and I’m sticking to it.
Let’s do the simple math. A cooling off period for an SK is a few months average. Giving the benefit of the doubt, lets say 4 a year from 18 to 50. 128 spread out through IN, IL, WI, MN, and Iowa may not have been linked together in the 60′s through the 90′s. They were simpler times.

Same Cloth. Mom always said you were the funny one. Have you seen any indication of his use of computers? I have noticed a huge rise in the reporting of internet child porn arrests since Vern the roach assumed room temperature. I am wondering if they are getting ISP’s from Vern’s Tandy 1000 and going around the country arresting those who cyberparticipated with Vern. My favorite part of this is that it would be federal and would not matter if Andy and Barney wanted to sweep it under the rug. All those that may want to hide what this may actually be are involved or accesories after the fact. Incompetent seems way too thin for describing them.
Math and profiling says he may be the most prolific SK in history. Reality may never allow that to see sunshine.
Lastly, the comments from the obit should have set off bells and whistles with LE. It’s poof into thin air gives me hope that the author may soon be on trial with the mayor and other participating oxygen thieves.

This case while ongoing, makes me sleep with lights on, I just know it is that bad. There has been interest on behalf of AMW on the Barter case, it is my understanding that is “in process”. I do have an update on this case but I am holding out till the beginning of next week to get something official from MPD, at this point, they would probably not like what I would post here. Looks like Im going to have to motion for a PI request.
Baldwin County however, is a different matter altogether, they are committed to following all leads and this is an active case for them.

I have not had a chance to get back to the Seitz thing, they were awaiting forensics last I heard, but I am very committed to it. I have spoken with numerous people who have advised me to do just that. As you saw I posted without a trace did a piece on Danny, not sure about AMW interest still.

Nehi bottle was never found. In fact, the Nehi bottle was witheld forever until the family decided it might help the investigation. You bet your bippy this is scarey, I nowhere finished on this one.

#32 step. I think he was a tragic monster, who was raped, tortured by members of his family as a boy just like he said. I think he was forced to kill daniel barter and one other like he said. I wander if the other boy who was with seitz at the zoo was a boyhood friend or a cousin and I wander if that was the other boy who was killed with daniel maybe he fought and they killed him. Blink, I was watching Nancy Grace last night (haven’t had a chance to read your new piece on kyron yet) but i was stopped in my tracks when they showed a picture of the precious Danny Barter. I’ll post a link below with the entire story) I have a nephew close to his age & my entire family is from Mobile, AL (where the Barters resided prior to his disappearance). I’ve been going to Perdido every summer since I was born.
I immediately began googling & soon came upon a story about him on scaredmonkeys. The story only mentioned
Danny & then was focused on Vernon Seitz (and rightly so given his story). As I read thru the comments (all back in 2008,) I saw comments by BLINK34!! I was so excited you have this case in your overall docket. I want to commend you on your astute (look at me using your vocabulary, lol) reporting. I was also wondering whatever came of that saga. I guess maybe I should’ve posted this under those comments but I thought other Harrington Blinkers may be interested in reading your work on that subject.
Anyhow, great job & any update would be great.

Yeah this Vernon Seitz guy sounds like a real creep. HOWEVER seeing how he has a family FULL of sex offenders…wouldn’t be surprised if he was abused, just closer to home. Just because no record of it was found doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. How many parents threw their kids out on the street and could get away with it back then? A child on the streets can easily get picked up and abused never to be seen or heard from again. If Seitz was abused, whose to say his coping wasn’t somehow eskewed and stuff in his head got messed up.
First off, it absolutely matters, of course, if what you believe is true.

The investigation into Jacob’s abduction continues. In 2004, some new reports appeared in the local press. A long-held belief that the abductor got away in a car was abandoned. It was also revealed that ten months prior to the Wetterling abduction another boy had been kidnapped, placed into a car, and sexually assaulted before being released. The modus operandi was similar to that in the Wetterling case: the man used a gun and upon releasing the boy told him to run and not look back or else he would be shot. That incident occurred ten miles from the location where Jacob, his brother, and friend were stopped.[2]
The Charley Project has sketches of a man believed to have abducted Jacob and sexually assaulted the other boy in 1989.[3]
In early 2009, Milwaukee police discovered child pornography and an alleged video of Wetterling taken before the abduction in the home of Vernon Seitz, 62, of the St. Francis, Wisconsin area. Seitz had died in his house, but officers asked for additional assistance after the pornography was discovered. Along with the child pornography, articles involving missing children and maps of the cities from which those children had disappeared were found in Seitz’s home.[4] It also emerged that Seitz himself had been abducted and tortured in 1950, and family said he was thus concerned for Wetterling from personal history.
On June 30, 2010 investigators with search warrants descended upon a farm near the abduction site. “Items of interest” were found when hauling away six truckloads of dirt from the site to search for evidence. However, it was revealed in late September that testing was unable to “establish, distinguish or identify potential evidence”.
