Forgive me if this has already been suggested in the comments somewhere. I read as much as I can, but a person just can’t read everything pertaining to this case.

Is it possible that the finer details in the murder-for-hire plot got lost in translation and the landscaper targeted Kyron instead of Kaine due to some sort of cultural/language misunderstanding?

BLINK this is sort of off topic. I did see where some folks referenced the situation on one of the articles. Hope OK?

A few days ago LE asked news outlets to voluntarily provide footage from June 4th. One station made a point of including a disclaimer that they as a rule do not surrender their work unless they are forced to comply with a subpoena (I paraphrase).
    **********************************************************************************************************

Over the week-end we saw a clip w/KATU Anna Song ‘reporting’ on the above mentioned subject,
As I recall, she basically said that for the most part they put interviews etc. on 4GB flash drives (she was holding one) and erase them… she showed a clip of the 7th grader and some one’s parent talking about Kyron,,,
It appeared KATU was hoping ‘that report’ would calm what I expect is a fire storm on both their phone & web site.
Have looked back and forth on KATU site and cannot find it, maybe someone else would have better luck locating it?

    @35.V
Thank you for your in depth analysis and I ponder as you do, on these exact issues. I live just 15 miles from Kyron’s school, been actively involved in particular search efforts for Kyron and have been following this case first hand since June 5th.

Harry Oakes a private SAR k-9 team has been on the Kyron Horman case since 6/28. Mr. Oakes has continually been asking for the family and LE cooperation in his private search efforts to locate Kyron Horman by requesting a “scent article” in which his dogs can use to track. He has received no help from them thus far. Mr. Oakes was the person who found Ashley Pond and Miranda Gaddis in Oregon City in 2002 after 7 failed attempts by the Oregon State SAR teams to locate the missing persons on a subject of interest’s property.
Harry Oakes continually makes claim to the Oregon State Sheriffs Assoc as “good ole boy” politics, huge egos and lack of qualifications regarding search and rescue (http://www.myspace.com/127939120/blog).
I too have many questions regarding the extensive time, money and effort in searching the river and watery grassland’s in the Sauvie Island area for the past 6 weeks?
While Multnomah County Sheriff’s Dept and family continue to make statements that they believe Kyron is alive. Do they believe Kyron is lost and wandering around in the watery grass?
If so why will they not provide a scent article to Harry Oakes?

I did some internet research on child exploitation in Mexico. Due to the rampant corruption of Mexican officials, Mexico is a haven for this type of crime and is also very lucrative to the criminals running operations such as this.

Is there any indication this case could have something to do with human trafficking?

Possibly Terri provided Kyron as the payment for ending Kaine’s life?

You may be surprised to learn that, on the subject of our exchange, I am not a layperson. I’m also familiar with Matt Ridley’s inability to draw proper philosophical/ethical conclusions from what the latest science purports to show. A good, clear read to be sure. But his reflections on ethics are of a ‘Reader’s Digest’ variety. Accessible, superficial, and generally wrong.

Otherwise, you’re right that we should stick to the Kyron case. So I’ll cast no more pearls…

In the article & video from Willamette Week that is referenced in, “Stepmom Moves Into Parents’ House, but First Son Already Moved Out”, it also says this about JM & the situation:

“He and Kaine on occasion butted heads, because James is hard-headed,” Tarver says.

Trouble hit home again when Kyron disappeared. The day after Kyron vanished, Tarver says, James went to the Hormans’ house for a previously planned weeklong visit.

Tarver says on June 8, four days after Kyron disappeared, James called him from the Hormans’ house and mentioned Terri Moulton Horman had taken a polygraph test. It’s been reported that she has since taken a second polygraph. What hasn’t been publicly confirmed until now is that authorities were already focusing on her so soon after Kyron vanished.

Tarver says when James mentioned the polygraph to him over the phone, he heard Terri Moulton Horman begin yelling in the background to be quiet and not reveal anything more. Given the intense media scrutiny, the family agreed James should return to Roseburg, Tarver says.

“It was a zoo, so we got him out of there,” Tarver says. “It’s just been devastating for the whole family. Obviously, the longer it drags on, the less chance there is for a happy ending.”

    Andy,

You say, “No scientist or physician has yet suggested that the discovery of the sociobiological origins to APD reduces a sociopath’s culpability.” Really, you’ve consulted all of them? ;)

In any case, it does sound as if our views are not incompatible. But for the record, there *are many* scientists, philosophers, and legal theorists who advocate a rejection, or radical revision, of traditional moral categories–as well as views of culpability and punishment–on the basis of human behavior’s (alleged) cognitive determinants. This may not be your view. It certainly isn’t mine. Just sayin’.

  11. Eloise says:

    @ Zeus

You know, you have to wonder. Didn’t Kaine question her why they were going to the bus stop when she said she needed the vehicle to pick the project up and I would assume Kyron? Maybe the media has gotten a portion of the story wrong.

Kaine: I typically drive the truck and Terri drives the car. She wanted to use the truck to bring Kyron’s science fair project home, easier done with the truck than the car, although she did not stay for the duration of the science fair – per her statements that the media has reported.

Or, wherever they got Terri’s explaination from. I do not believe she is that stupid either. I am afraid that will end up not getting thoroughly explained until after, if ever. Sounds like misinformation or story change.
Even if Terri were innocent, and some Terri stalker attacked them in the parking lot, her story of why she needed to take the truck to Kaine still is off. Is Kaine’s story off for some reason? It would have made more sense if she needed it to TAKE him to school and help him and visit the SF, than pick him up after theory.

I am also very interested in knowing if the red car and truck story that was out very early on SI bares any truth. I believe it was on WS’s, that a local had heard or read. Not sure.

As far as whether “anti social personality disorder” reduces a person’s culpability for a crime, mental disease or defect may be used as an excuse for mental state in committing a crime.

However, the court generally does not recognize as evidence of diminished capacity: 1. voluntary intoxication from drugs or alcohol, or 2. personality disorder.

    @Eloise
I agree with so many of the questions about why this and that regarding the car and truck switch, but I try to remember we are looking back in time. On an ordinary day, it’s unlikely Kaine would come home and think to look in the truck or Kyron’s room to see if the SF project were home, or to question if she brought it home. If he asked later, she would have made an excuse.) If she had stayed around the school for awhile and then brought it home during the day, Kyron could still have been expected to ride the bus home with his friends.

I can see why, under whatever the circumstances, she didn’t want to go back and get it – just not that Kaine would have noticed. Most husbands (probably people in general) just don’t seem to check up on the details of anything they aren’t responsible for unless there is reason, and at the time, it seems there wasn’t any.

The search for Kyron concentrating on the Sauvie Island area has been well known fact. LE, private citizens, local neighbors and SAR have up until today not stopped searching this area. 30. Karen says:

@ Eloise & Zeus: I’m as confused as you are about what happened the morning of 6/4. According to a contributor on The Hinky Meter, TH told Mrs. Porter (Kyron’s teacher) at the SF that Kyron had a Dr’s appt & would be leaving before class began. If TH planned to take Kyron, then, why would she leave Kyron’s jacket & book bag in the classroom, then pretend to expect him home on the bus? But, she told Kaine & Desiree of her plan to attend the SF until 10:00. Oh, yeh…supposedly, Mrs. P is hearing impaired. Mrs. P must’ve thought it odd, though, that Kyron’s jacket & book bag were still in the room. If we’re confused, think about how confused Mrs. P would’ve been.

It would be absolutely inane for TH, if she took Kyron from school that morning, to use two conflicting alibis. She may have thought she could dupe Mrs. P, claiming later that the teacher didn’t hear her correctly b/c they were in a crowded auditorium. But, another individual (IIRC, the president of the PTA) saw TH leaving the school at 8:45 & TH herself acknowledged she left at that time, right?

I’m now beginning to suspect that maybe Kyron DID leave with TH & that she (TH) had more of a direct role in Kyron’s disappearance. There are too many contradictions in TH’s statements. Why tell KH & DY that she planned to stay at the SF until 10:00 and afterwards drive Kyron’s SF project home in the truck, but admit to leaving at 8:45, which seems to support Mrs. P’s version?

The only way around a direct role by TH is the possibility that TH planned to stay until 10:00, but was lured away from the school (by RS, perhaps, if he was there). But…if TH told Mrs. P that she was taking Kyron to a Dr’s appt, then TH had knowledge of Kyron’s disappearance (whether or not she was the one who took him from school).

Does anyone know Mrs. P’s reply to TH’s email inquiring when the SF projects could be picked up? The email, to begin with, would seem unnecessary if TH’s original plan (or the version she gave KH) was to bring the SF project home after the SF was over (at 10:00). Was that in fact Kaine’s understanding? If so, TH again would’ve been communicating contradictory information.

I agree that has been my question for quite some time.
From my earlier post I wrote “I still wonder if Sauvie Island was only a place in which to exchange Kyron or dispose of evidence. LE may be looking for some type of evidence, but I do not believe from the public data we have thus far, that Kyron is there.”

LE has not said if they have found any evidence of Kyron. Harry Oakes found a sock shortly after he started his search on SI, which was turned over to LE. Later a comment was made on his site that it was determined not to be Kyrons. However, public confirmation of this was never released as far as I am aware of.
Thank you for pondering this with me and I’d like to hear your perspective. Since MCSD has neither confirmed nor denied evidence of Kyron in or near Sauvie Island, yet they do state they believe he is alive. I am curious as to why the search at this location is still so active?

ok, now I do have a serious point to make. Everyone keeps wanting to know why Terri took the truck to the school that day….and of course we all know that whatever she said her reasons were, she lied to the FBI about them and to the LE, right? Right. We also know, per Blink, that she is focusing on Rudy Sanchez and his associates. So, perhaps the reason why she took the truck was to be able to have “the associates” ride with her in the truck and to help her subdue Kyron while they went to Sauvie Island or whatever location they took him to? To me, that would make more sense of why she would have taken the truck.

  49. puddnheadwilson says:

If I were in Terri’s shoes, I doubt I would be cooperating with law enforcement as of 6/26, either. Allow yourself to imagine, for a moment, that she is not directly involved in Kyron’s disappearance but is “guilty” of making a lifestyle choice (having an affair with a guy who turns out to be very shady) that ultimately led to Kyron’s disappearance:

She calls 911, in fear, asking for help against threats made by this shady guy who is OUTSIDE HER FRONT DOOR–only to find out that detectives are actually working WITH him in a surreptitious sting against HER. Then she further learns that her husband has left the home with their daughter based on information provided by these same officials. I can imagine the shock and (yes) the betrayal she must have felt. From her point of view, LE, as of 6/26, are coming from a “bad faith” perspective concerning whatever she says or does. Who wouldn’t “lawyer up” once you’ve gotten to that place? The Ramsey family got to that place, too, when it came to LE.

Wishing fervently, as always, that little Kyron is found alive, and wishing also that little Kiara is soon reunited, at least in some degree, with her mother.

While I do agree that Terri was in need of representation by then, I think this woman has made her own bed so to speak.

Strictly from a PR perspective, and all you idealists can sigh collectively as you wish, this woman’s consciousness of guilt is not helping her. People will not care ultimately who harmed this child directly.
This is going to lead back to Terri Horman, and people are going to want her head on a stick, not some duped landscaper. That is reality.

I say this because someone needs to inform her that how this goes down is in her control for now.
