Former UVA Cop Charged With Rape: Sean Michael Horn Faces Bond Hearing Today

Charlottesville, VA-  Sean Michael Horn, 42, current Albemarle County reserve deputy and former police officer for the University of Virginia  as well as the Albemarle Sheriffs Office was arrested last evening for rape. The arrest  follows an extensive investigation conducted by the prosecutors office.

While there has been no specifics released, and it is the policy of www.blinkoncrime not to identify alleged victims of sexual crimes,  we have learned that a complaint of rape against Horn was received in the Fall of 2011.

The arrest follows what can only be described as a series of chaotic incidents and events affecting Albemarle county law enforcement officers since 2009 at a minimum.

Following the death of 18 year old Greene County resident Colby Eppard on New Years Day 2010 by police gunfire, 7 Albemarle county officers were either suspended and/or demoted.  Caleb Marden, a decorated sharp-shooter who served in Iraq was fired.   Denise Lunsord,  prosecutor for Albemarle county and North Garden resident, cleared all officers of any wrongdoing from the incident.

Eppard allegedly stole a neighboring Greene County patrol car and traveled almost 60 miles to Albemarle county. Although off duty Greene Sgt Randall Snead  was out of his jurisdiction, Snead was among the officers in pursuit of Eppard and participated in the ambush to stop the teen.  Snead’s former mentor and Sherriff, Willie Morris,  committed suicide on January 28th.

Although he was on desk assignment pending the investigation of Eppard’s death, Snead responded to the scene of Morris’s home where he was located and rushed to the hospital.  Morris was removed from life sustaining efforts without ever regaining consciousness.    A suicide note blamed his tinnitus condition.

In a recent election, Steve Smith won the Sheriff slot running against Snead, and has since met with controversy after releasing nearly all of his staff.   An email criticizing Smith was received by several news outlets from a previously fired Albemarle County Lt. Scott Cox, then a Greene county deputy who has since been released.   Horn has Sheriff Smith listed as a friend on his facebook profile.  Cox was among the Albemarle County Officers who was demoted after 18 years of service in the scandal.

Albemarle county is also the home of The Anchorage Farm,  where murdered Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington was recovered after exhaustive searches of the areas surrounding the JPJ arena, UVA campus and private LE searches failed to locate her.   Harrington disappeared from a Metallica concert at the John Paul Jones Arena on October 17, 2009 after being refused re-entry by security.  DNA evidence has linked the Harrington case to a suspect in an unsolved rape in Fairfax, VA in 2005.  Former lead detective now retired, Lt. Rader,  has only indicated that forensic link means that Morgan came into contact with that individual prior to leaving Charlottesville.

Efforts to confirm whether Sean Horn was working the event as a UVA officer that evening have not been returned.

Corrine Geller,  public information officer for the Virginia State Police,  whose agency leads the probe into Morgan’s homicide responded to our inquiry as to whether or not Horn was a target of their continuing investigation this morning:

“The investigation remains ongoing at this time. I’m not able to comment on who our agents have or have not looked into during the course of their investigation.”

Horn lists Virginia Tech among his educational credentials on his facebook account, where Harrington was a junior at the time of her disappearance.  It is not known if the two were acquainted.

Horn is being held in the Albemarle Regional jail pending his bond hearing today.

Well actually, my thinking goes along the lines of someone who had picked her up at the RV lot, sexually attacked Morgan somewhere close to AF, thus her being in the area already. She fought back, tried to get away, and her being literally run down by the vehicle. That would clearly not just be a hit and run, and would be considered vehicular homicide. I’m not a medical person but I’ve run through every other possibility INCLUDING of course the really unpopular opinion of being dropped from a low flying plane.

If she was already run down somewhere close to the entrance to Blandemar, and whoever did it knew the area well enough, then the distance that she would need to be picked up and hauled would be shorter, even done with a 4 wheeler, OR JEEP. Personally, I don’t know how many of those who live at Blandemar were questioned, or those person/person’s who worked for them.

And if a bunch of black vultures can break the rib bones of a deceased body, then a plow down of a vehicle shattering long bones isn’t a stretch for me.

For all those who can’t get the thought of a scenario that Morgan was accidentally hit by a car because of her condition, Blink is correct…please take that leap of faith… trust me – I asked the same question (I will not say who I asked it of but I trust them to know) and recieved the point blank answer “she was NOT hit by a car or accidentally run over” period. Not to mention that Gil does not take what she writes lightly. This girl was murdered…no doubt in my mind.

I promise, I would never state something as fact, if I did not know it to be factual. In the hundreds of cases I have covered, and those I have worked on personally, I simply never have- that should be enough to justify my credibility.

J.me is correct, there is simply no question that Morgan was murdered, and that the injuries she suffered were delivered by a human, were contributory to her death, which has been ruled a homicide accordingly.

There is simply no plausible discussion to be had outside of that information.

I find it dangerous to water down the fact that she was murdered and assaulted by a sadistic rapist who may be tied to an earlier assault. I cannot express the need for vigilance strongly enough.

    Hi again Blink!
The images I thought you were referring to were possible satalite images (time lapse) of the area Mogan was found on A.F.
Totally playing armchair detective again here so please bare with me.
I saw a show on a New Mexico?? I believe of a serial killer dumpsite where the police were able to put together an exact timeframe of when the numerous victims were left there by looking at the satalite images of the vehicle tracks left. Example, one day there are no tracks in remote field, the next day there are obvious vehicle path tracks visible in satalite images. The next month, tons of vehicle tracks to and from showing.
If available of A.F, it could provide a specific time of when Morgan may have been put there and if she was held for any amount of time.
Btw, the show was of course on I’d Discovery and the satalite images in this case were extremely creepy. You could see exactly when and where a vehicle had traveled (the killer) to dump his poor victims.

I would have to know the case you are referring to, but there is no such thing as the GPS fixated on a particular coordinate(s) to allow time lapse images. They are shot when they are shot.

There are images available (satellite) of the property via google earth and bing, but not at a height and resolution that would indicate

For images related to discovering remains at her ultimate discovery location, drones would have been utilized. Unfortunately, that was never done in this case, although it was days away from the possibility when Morgan was located.

Only the military have the capability to use satellite imagry in a manner you describe. They can see an object as small as a wallet with the very high resolution cameras on the military satellites.

The photos we see with mapping services such as Google and Bing all get their photos from civil government satellites. As Blink mentions, this is based on when a particular area is due for an update. Pay attention to the source for the photos listed on Google.

The civilian use of satellite imagry began with the US Dept. of Agriculture. They were looking for a way to identify food crop diseases to prevent the spread of them from affecting the world food supply. I saw my first images presented by a Dept. of agriculture person in 1969.

According to Randy Barrett, Communications Director for the Center for Public Integrity, one of the most widespread issues throughout these state governments is the lack of public access to information, which, he says, is key to preventing other kinds of corruption and conflicts of interest from occurring. “When you think about it, that’s really the root of transparency.

Dr Pepper – Wow is all I can say to this info, but not at all surprising to me. I can only hope that Morgan’s shiney light will cut through the darkness on the evil man/men/woman who did this to her and in doing so will indeed as Gil said, protect the next girl. I just wish that it would come sooner rather than later.

Sorry for the test, problems posting again.

Sydneyfrog, I remember that episode where they found the bodies in the desert by viewing aerial photos, but I can’t find any info on it either. Before and after shots of the field could have been very helpful.

  12. Georgie says:

When I mentioned the broken ribs and CPR, I was sort of thinking (graphic) that this guy didn’t want her dead, at least not right away. Aren’t there sickos who enjoy taking their victim to the brink of death, then bringing them back? Or possibly he didn’t want to kill her, and panicked when she passed out, thinking he could “save” her by doing CPR. If CPR did cause her broken ribs, it might offer a little insight as to how much knowledge of resucitation this perp had.

There has got to be a common denominator here somewhere….if we temporarily throw out the t-shirt as a vital part of the case, what we have left is someone who was comfortably walking around fairfax at 10pm, and knew where he wanted to drag and rape his victim….over by the pool. In C-ville, he apparently went unnoticed at JPJA, the parking lots, the RV lot, unless she wasn’t taken from there. He then takes her to a remote farm, but must know the area well enough to place her there, and not be concerned about his vehicle looking out of place. There are any number of people who could pull this off….a swimming pool contractor/salesman who scouts the area and talks to the potential pool owner. These guys sometimes travel statewide and also to other states, and would know the lay of the land very well. Also in this category would be any kind of landscaper, paving company, arborist, caterer, disc jockey, who had acsess to AF for an extended period of time, as in the construction of the estates, or who goes there on a regular basis for any reason.

Another category would be delivery men, like Pepsi/Coke guys on their regular routes, water delivery guys, Fed-Ex drivers. All these jobs could potentially put Sketch in the Fairfax area, as well as UVa and AF.

  14. Redly says:

As the article says, it is the states, like new jersey, with the greatest history of corruption that score best on that test. It is because the survey didn’t test for actual corruption but for the measures that have been put in place to counter it. States with history of corrupt political machines reacted by putting in legislation designed to stop it. That makes them the least corrupt according to the survey whether that legislation works or not. States without a history of actual corruption score most corrupt as they have not put in the legislation to guard against it yet. In the same way, a convicted murder on death row is less likely to commit another murder than a civilian that has not been arrested before and thus would be ranked as less dangerous by this type of survey.

New jerseys last governer before Christie is on his way to prison. I believe the one before that had to resign in scandal also. Christie looks like he will be the first in a while to avoid trouble.

Redly- “Bitter, party of one, your table is ready.”

Governor Christi is the type of person that the people in all the states should be lucky enough to have as a Governor.

He is not afraid to tell it like it is and when some nitwit challenges him with poor logic, he destroys their position with facts.

I strongly suspect that there is a military connection somewhere in his background. He talks like a master sgt. speaking to the troops.

I also suspect that Blink’s Poppa had the ability to do the same. I can tell you, I can be gentle as well as very firm. This is the quality that made the USA the type of country it was following WWII. Our founders, while polite at times, did not take prisoners when it came to defending their beliefs or administering justice.

Gov Christie is an accomplished attorney, freeholder, State Attorney and lobbyist prior to his tenure as governor, but to my knowledge he comes from a non-military working class family.

His wife escaped the Sept 11 terrorist attacks because she was on maternity leave- she left Cantor Fitzgerald soon thereafter. In my opinion, he has done more for this state than any other politician in my recent memory.

I do not want to risk going more off topic, but yes my Poppa commanded attention like no other man I know or have known. As a child he was the greatest storyteller in my world, and man could he sling it.

He told me there was a little man named Jake that turned the light on in the refrigerator when you opened it, and he could never be seen.

That was until I spent half an hour flinging the fridge door open with all my little might that all the condiments flew all over the kitchen as he was coming up from his basement workshop.

I said, Poppa- there is no man in here. First of all, you told me if I were ever to go into a fridge, washer, dryer, freezer or appliance I thought I could fit in I would die because I could not breathe and nobody would know I was there. Remember when I got grounded for trying to see if the dryer would spin when we were inside it? This is no different. There are times when nobody is home all day, so he would not have anyone to let air in for him, and I can tell you from me yanking on this door all morning the light is off when the door is closed.

He said- are you sure- I mean absolutely sure, and this is your only reason?

I said, well, no. Second of all, you never said anything about anyone living in the freezer part and I can see a lightbulb right there ( I open door) AND if you press this thing, it goes off, so that is what happens when you close it. I am guessing I am just not tall enough to see the fridge side does the same thing.

He said, very good, if nobody ever questions how things work then we would all be sitting in candlelight going outside to the bathroom. Understand?

I said- who in the world would go to the bathroom outside- and I am a girl and girls never ever go to the bathroom outside- what would I do then?

He said, gotta get back to work, my break is over. (LOL- enough granddaughter bonding for the day)

I believe the case Sydneyfrog and Georgie are referring to is the West Mesage (New Mexico) murders.

  17. George says:

    Mom 3.0 and j.me,

I don’t think Morgan was hit by a car; I think she succumbed to an accidental drug overdose (knowingly or unknowingly) and was interred in a shallow grave on Anchorage Farm immediately adjacent to a dirt path used by tractors and other farm equipment. She was washed out in the flooding a few days prior to being found by Bass.

If you were to inter a young 20 year old in those conditions you would expect the results that were found with Morgan.

Others have claimed “special knowledge” and “case sensitive” information, leaving us to believe that a forensic determination of the evidence, which would normally reveal the height and left or right-handedness of the attacker, as well as other information – if Morgan had indeed been assaulted and killed – are being are being withheld.

Imagine, if the VSP has determined that Morgan’s attacker is about 6 foot 6 inches and left-handed but are not telling anyone? Why would they do that?

For some reason when I suggested that someone being attacked and having so many broken bones would have passed away from internal injuries before all the bones were broken I was also derided. The image of a killer beating someone they have already killed is beyond disturbing. Even more disturbing is the idea of a State Police organization who has determined that is indeed the case and is sitting on the information.

Which is why I don’t believe it happened.

The VSP has not released the autopsy, has not released the toxicology, and has not released the cause of death.

    1. I did not deride you, what I did, was present a respectful and compelling argument to your scenario which belies both KNOWN evidence, as well as the actual landscape of the recovery scene, and some case sensitive details I am aware of. Which btw, I note you did not counter.

    2. Now this might sound like I am deriding you, but I am really at a loss as to how you are coming up with the “imagine VSP has determined her killer is 6 foot 6 and left handed” and is withholding that information? What in the Hell are you even talking about? Name one similar case with a mostly skeletonized corpse without a suspect that can specify the height of an attacker as well as whether they are left or right handed? It is possible based on an anthro study ( yes I am back to that again, which respectfully I submit you questioned what it even had to do with this case, so.. let’s agree forensic anthropology is not your strong suit. No shame in that, but then.. where are you coming up with this data?) If there were instruments used by an attacker that reflect on wounds to or through the bone (tool or implement marking) and collective other evidence or data corroborate it is possible in certain cases to make some assumptions, but even that is an egregious stretch. Not to be confused with sketch, whom, by the way his connection to the case and physical description and likeness HAVE been released by VSP.

The way I understand the AF crime scene, what you are referring to as possible is absolutely impossible as she was recovered and as she presented at autopsy.

Why does this fuel me so?

Glad you asked. Some creepy freak who looks mostly normal is trolling the streets for the girl, the “next” girl who has lulled herself into the security that there is no sadistic rapist murderer out there, there is only a AA male, about 40 ish, 6 ft medium build who apparently drives undetectable farm equipment over young women after removing her shirt and other items of clothing. With the sincere hope of staging an accidental death to look more like a brutal homicide just for kicks.

Makes perfect sense, right? Of course not.

We are talking about a dangerous and sadistic person or persons and if he is not dead, and he has not already ( I believe he has) he WILL reoffend and I cannot in good faith allow anyone to think this was accidental or let their guard down.

I have an additional thought I would like to put out there-

Has anyone considered the possibility that the COD and the specifics regarding the autopsy findings, which are NOT public information in VA, btw, have not been released out of concern for arousing this monster? Because he would get off on others hearing about “his work?”

Lastly, Morgan was not interred in the least. No shallow grave whatsoever.

The decompositional staining was consistent with Morgan being placed exactly where she was found at or near her time of death, again consistent with October 17, 2009. She was not buried, was not in the creek for a time, she was right where she was found, fully bleached bones exposed and all.

Location, location, location- someone did nothing to conceal her, then panicked when they heard the search team was coming in so they throw her shirt on a bush like a neon sign.

  18. WhiteHat says:

Not specific to Morgan, but to murders in the area. The Montgomery County sheriff’s office will hold a press conference on Tuesday to talk about the Heidi Childs and David Metzler case.

  19. questioner says:

Well, I’m still searching and researching every damn thing I can think of and I came across this drug bust in Oct, just a few days after Morgan went missing. Connections to North Garden and Barracks Rd. and if someone might help me find a connection to Fairfax we might have something.

6 Arrested in JADE Drug Bust
On Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 4:30 P.M., JADE and the WASP Task Force (Waynesboro, Augusta County, and Virginia State Police) conducted a buy-bust operation on Cove Garden Road in Albemarle County. Authorities arrested Claudio Morales Rodriguez, age 39 of North Garden, after seizing approximately 125 grams of methamphetamine (Ice), with a street value of $4,500.00. Rodriquez was charged with possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute (F) and is being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail without bond.

On Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 1:50 P.M., JADE, with the assistance of the Albemarle County Police Department, the Charlottesville Police Department, the Virginia State Police, and the U.S. Marshals Service, conducted another buy-bust operation in the 2200 block of Barracks Road in the City of Charlottesville. This was the culmination of a month long investigation and resulted in the arrest of Carlos Wilfredo Garcia Sanchez, 38 of Charlottesville, charged him with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute (F) and possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a school zone (F), and is being held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail. Authorities seized over 500 grams of cocaine from Sanchez, with a street value of $14,000.00.

Now I have no doubt that these guys knew each other, and if they sold drugs in both places they were probably at the JPJ arena on Oct 17th to sell to anyone going to the Metallica concert. My question is who might they know doing the same selling in Fairfax?

  20. George says:

Well, the above, along with the rest of your post, is just bewildering nonsense. Apparently if you disagree with someone the new rules are to shout them down?

What I am saying is that if Morgan was beaten to death by a killer welding a tool (or his fists) it would be possible in many (most) instances to estimate the height of the assailant and whether the assailant was right or left handed. Why is that difficult for you to grasp? What is difficult to grasp is why the VSP would withhold that information if, in fact, it happened. I thought the whole idea was to prevent this from happening again, not to sit back and watch the VSP bury the case?

What I said is that Morgan may have passed away from a drug overdose. I don’t believe Morgan’s passing happened at Anchorage Farms. It most likely happened in a house, maybe one that is not around anymore. She was taken to Anchorage Farms after her demise in a certain vehicle, maybe one that is not around anymore either. I am also open to the possibility that that house is exactly where Morgan intended to go after the concert, but her plans got moved up when she was ejected from the JPJ Arena.

Why hasn’t the location where Morgan wanted to be taken been made public? We still do not have a cause of death, a toxicology report, or an autopsy report. Minor details the VSP is sitting on, forever apparently.

As for you having “special information” or “case-sensitive” information as to whether Morgan may have washed out of shallow grave or not – I just don’t believe you have that information. From the brief time they were on scene I am not sure the VSP did anything but a “fill in the blanks and move on” exercise.

Believe whatever you like George- I am not about to besmirch my own reputation by espousing bullshit, and if you are the investigator you say you are, that should have been clear to you long ago. Your miffed because I called you out- you have yet to respond with a reasonable argument or example to back up a single thing you have presented as an alternative possibility.

When that happens, the ole ego kicks in, and kicks Blink. I get it. Not new.

Bewildering nonsense? Of course a part of it was, it was designed to show how your theory looks in sentence form.

This about one thing, and it is glaring. You don’t want to be wrong.

As I said George- cite a case. Any case, where what you said, any of it, is real, or plausible.

Someone hit with fists or any tool or implement that does not (mark, score, or alter the integrity of . forensic terms) you think is discernable as to the size and dominant hand preference of an attacker? Now that is bewildering.

In fact, I am not aware of a single forensic case study or other where that has even happened.
That said, I am more than eager to learn how to improve my knowledge base without making anyone wrong, or having my feelings hurt for same.

There is a young woman who was brutally assaulted and murdered who deserves justice, and there are many young women like her that deserve protection from a similar fate.

Can’t we just come together for them already?

  24. A Texas Grandfather says:

    George

I do not think Morgan was the victim of an accident. I think she was talked into a vehicle by a slik con man. Once she was inside and realized what his intent was, she tried to escape.

Two weeks ago I watched a program regarding serial killers. A blonde woman in her mid forties told her story in person. She had been abducted by a serial killer who had killed four prior to her abduction and four after. She was the only one that escaped.

This guy stalked her without her knowledge. She lived in a small community in the desert Southwest. The woman was 5′-9″ tall. The serial killer was only 5′-7″. He had been stalking her for some time.

One morning she had car trouble and he came along and offered to take her to work. She looked at him and made a decision that even though she did not know him, she was bigger and could probably beat him up if he tried anything. That morning he behaved himself and took her to work as promised.

Two mornings later she was walking to work because her car was in the shop. He pulled up alongside and offered her a ride. She again got in his car. This time he did not stay on the street that would take them to her place of work. Instead, he took a road that went out into the desert. He drove about a mile and one-half and pulled over. She was trying to get out of the car, but he reached over and hit her in the head with his fist and then banged her head into the dash, stunning her. While she was incapacitated from the blows he took string and tied her hands behind her back with multiple wraps.

She was twenty-five years old when this occured. She found out the hard way that a woman even though taller than a man and maybe even heavier, is no match for his strength. She cannot get away unless she has connsiderable experience fighting.

The guy cut her clothes off and raped her multiple times. When she complained he would beat her. Finally he drug her out of the car and began to choke her. She passed out. The next thing she remembered he was slaping her about the face and making an attempt at CPR.

She thought she wanted to die and told him, when she could speak, to go ahead and do it. He said he was not through with her. He dragged her to the back of the car and opened the trunk and put her in it. Then he began to drive back to the highway.

For some reason the car became stuck in the sand. She had managed to break the string and get her hands free while he drove back towards the highway. When the car stopped, she used the inside release to pop the trunk open. When she got out of the trunk she found she was very near the highway took off running towards it. The killer saw her running and grabbing a machette, ran after her. Two Marines in a pickup truck stopped and picked her up. The guy ran back to his car and took off. They didn’t catch him for five years. In the meantime he killed four more women.

She said her ribs were sore for a month where he had hit her when she protested his rape.

I think this is exactly what happened to Morgan. I also think that there were two perps. At some point, they became concerned that she might be found and beat her to death, placing the body on AF.

  25. tango says:

I understand now why the placement of Morgan’s body in a field unburied suggests a quick getaway…due to circumstances beyond my control I had to dig a grave for a beloved family pet this past weekend. It took me 4 hours to dig a hole about 18 x 18 x 18″…then I packed a good bit more dirt on top of it…plus a layer of rocks…but it was brutal…I can’t imagine having to do that for a human body…Wow…

  26. A Texas Grandfather says:

We all may have a victory here. All our comments about how VSP and other LE agencies in Virginia have been remiss in not adequately using the media to help solve cases, may have had some effect.

We will see just how much they release in the Childs-Metzler case.

All the “watchbirds” will be monitoring the release.

  27. deetee says:

questioner, i love your tenacity. idk though, i think these buy and bust operations take a fair amount of research, planning and laying groundwork in general before LE takes a piece of the operation down. based on the date Morgan disappeared and the dates these slimebuckets were picked off, i don’t think it likely they were in response to her disappearance.

still, maybe they had a hunch and thought bringing in a few lowlifes that might know someone that knows someone might pay off. just not feeling it personally.

    let’s keep at it Q.

  28. Georgie says:

Questioner, funny you should mention JADE and drug busts….I was pondering the other day about Morgan possibly running into someone involved with Jade, like a snitch or undercover dealer. If they were really close to a big bust (maybe not the ones mentioned but much bigger) and Morgan somehow got in the way or had knowledge of something/someone which could screw up the whole arrest(Sketch=snitch), would this be kept quiet by members of JADE or LE?

  29. Georgie says:

I checked out the link to the Childs-Metzler murders, which led me to a site which listed all the people(mostly women) who went missing within a few months or so of Morgan….the number is staggering. I wrote them all down and plan to research which ones have been found, which ones are solved. I only got thru 3 so far:

1)Kristan Fox, 26, went missing Dec 30, 2010, found unconscious behind McD’s dumpster in Zion Crossroads, taken to hospital, died a few hours later. Death ruled drug overdose.

2)Kelly Catalano, 40, ran out of her workplace the morning of Jan 15, 2010, to the james River, body found UPSTREAM months later. She told people she thought she was being followed, said things in her house had been moved around prior to her disappearance. Death ruled suicide, family and friends dispute this.

3)Jill Edmonds, 40, her abandoned vehicle was found on the Powhite Parkway on a bridge over the James River. Her body was found in April miles downstream. LE ruled it a suicide because she was on antidepressants, family again disputes this. They have said on various websites that Jill was scalped and had burns on her from a car cigarette lighter. I will try to find links later, out of time for this morning.

  30. Georgie says:

Oh sorry, forgot the date Jill’s car was found…Jan 25, 2010.

  31. Ode says:

Now THAT’s what I am talking about. Anybody remember ole Blink’s comments on this one?
This is a solvable case, and when you hear about the physical evidence, and what was stolen it will be clear this was not random.
    B
    *****
The press confrence is not today but Thursday I think. Physical evidence? DNA? link to sketch?? Stolen items? Necklaces? Shoes or boots?? Are these 3 murdered Virginia Tech students connected to the same monsters?

  32. Cat says:

George, it would be entirely impractical, from the killer’s perspective, to stage an actual accident to appear as though it was a murder, the other way around, of course. If she did OD, why would he take such care in hiding her body, wouldn’t it make far more sense to just dump her on the side of the road, to be found so that specific determination could be made? Why remove her shirt if this was an accident?

He wanted her to rot in that field, primarily to dissipate any and all physical evidence that may eventually be used to implicate him, a plan, he implemented, which clearly, without a doubt, exemplified his horrid actions. Actions that WILL be repeated if he is not brought to justice. His plan has worked fairly well, thus far, unfortunately…

What Cat mentions is something I may have been remiss in pointing out specifically, and is again, a hallmark for a sadistic (overt) offender. Him leaving her in that open field, to rot, is a way for him to extend the torture in her death, as he sees it. His arousal is entirely based on torture, fear and pain. In retrospect, I wonder if that is one reason why VSP did the walk through on the field- to sort of reclaim it on an anniversary of sorts.

  33. Rose7 says:

Whoa … Ode …. and, scarey.

TGF: Concerning the VSP and LE using the media to help solve cases.

Great, but a little backward in my opinion. Where is the Virginia ‘Media’ aggressively searching out the facts and holding VSP and LE accountable for their serving the public safety??

These two thing together would be the ‘victory’ in this case. But, the ‘Media’ has been woefully lacking here, in my opinion.

I could not agree with you more. What I will say is I have gotten to know a few of the local reporters with this case. I can tell you that they live from the courtesy of their sources, are assigned by the news editor, and it is very controlled. They feel strongly that rocking that boat so to speak would endanger any “crumbs”. Have you ever heard of a media opportunity restricted only to press in that state? And then to participate in a Nationally syndicated program? Hardly transparent.

  34. A Texas Grandfather says:

We do not know how much soil was in the field where Morgan was placed. There are large rock deposits throughout the area.

I live in a place with similar geology. Soil ranges from a few inches to two feet or more in or near creek bottoms. We have granite and marble deposits that require a drill or jack hammer to penetrate.

There is also red clay in the Charlettesville area. This is difficult to dig without the use of water, if by hand, or a backhoe.

It makes sense to place the body in an area that was in a slight depression in a hay field. This occured in late October. The deer hunting season should have been going on at this time. Why she was not found by deer hunters is strange.

  35. Georgie says:

Ok, this is freaking me out a little….16 went missing and/or were found dead in the central Va area from Aug 26, 2009 (Childs/Metzler) to June 2010. If you remove Childs/Metzler and Vanessa Pham (June 2010), they all happened between October 2009 and March 2010…that’s like a dozen within a 5 month period! I’ll start to list them later, don’t know if it has any bearing on Morgan’s case, but it sure as hell makes my skin crawl.

  36. Olivia says:

I have wondered since they found her whether there was any photo evidence at all on those night cameras attached to trees around the property for hunters.

  37. alexandra says:

Blink, if we could be sure that the murderer(s) knew there was to be a search of the area and placed the shirt on a bush on 15th and Grady, I wonder how many people knew the planned location of the search? How would the killer find out this information? If so, he couldn’t be a wandering vagrant type person or people like the abductors of JC Duggard or Elizabeth Smart. He must be real close and not obvious. OOOO I want him/them caught. This DOES place the entire Fairfax to Charlottesville community in danger.

He has a direct line to a LEA, or there was scanner chat from meeting outcomes.

  38. A Texas Grandfather says:

There are many companies that make scanners that cover most of the radio frequencies. In the 1930′s I was willed a Zenith TransOceanantic full band radio by one of my uncles. During WWII it was possible to listen to military and other traffic with a proper antenna.

Today, with solid state electronics, it would be possible to scan a wide range of traffic with a portable slightly larger than a cell phone of the Iphone class.

I believe, without any real evidence, that at least one of the perps involved with Morgan is or has been in some area of LE. He is using this skill or knowledge to keep ahead of the investigation. Radio traffic from LE talking about a proposed shearch South of town is probably the reason for the shirt being placed.

  39. A Texas Grandfather says:

    Rose7

Your comment to me regarding the lack of agressive reporting by the media. You are correct. However, I long ago decided from the media reports across Virginia that media would do nothing worthwhile without permission or a planned news release from LE.

As sad as that is, Blink gave you the real reasons as best expressed by the reporters. They are chained down by the news editors.

  40. Dr. Pepper says:

    Georgie–
Ive read about all of the cases you listed a while back. Being thousands of miles away- I’ve had no ability to look into it further as I’d love to be able to do.

Somethings up in that area. Try a search with the missing, deceased women/men in that area in the past 30 years that are unsolved. WOW.

I am hoping and praying that LE has learned something from us and are going to release more info regarding the Metzler Childs Murder. I hope that they have been beating down the door to see if there are any remote connections to other UNSOLVED MURDERS in the area.

I know you are slammed and have little time. But it would be of immense help for you to educate Myself (and possibly others) on the DNA databases.

How they’re connected, how many are there…how it all works.

I have been trying to educate myself on my own for a while now, and I have been unable to.

    This would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if anyone else would like to contribute their knowledge PLEASE DO SO : ) (caugh caugh- Redly, ATG etc)

Yesterday on the front page of an upstate SC newspaper was the report of arrests made in a 2008 murder. A man and a woman were arrested. The case broke when police called in the help of an “old, trusted informant” who was able to provide the woman’s name. She was arrested on an unrelated charge and confessed to her part in the crime, naming her male accomplice. I post this mainly to give us a little bit of hope for Morgan’s case eventually being solved.

I posted a link for you tango. I agree that our suspect is a substance and/or alcohol abuser and when that happens guards come down..

    ______________

I don’t think scanner chatter is the likely source of the “search area tip” for sketch. although i am not sure how likely that would be communicated over the airwaves in advance of the search, it would have definitely required faithful, extensive, heavy duty monitoring and attention to pick it up.

on the other hand, as A Texas Grandfather points out, such a monitor is not hard to come by and available to the public in a handheld unit. i’m sure many people working JPJ arena the night Morgan disappeared where using and monitoring just such a device, as part of their usual job routine. any communication about security interactions of Morgan trying to regain entrance to JPJ, or reports about her appearing intoxicated on the grounds of UVA would very likely have been transmitted on and could have been overheard, on the same.

When a search plan commences, it starts with the LE meeting so perimeters can be defined, assets allocated, permits required, requests for duty shifts, etc. So in theory, I am referring to the outcomes of those types of meetings, and it is very possible that some of that dialogue involved on-duty personnel.

I can tell you I received a call in the middle of that meeting for a RFI, so it was occurring.

I agree with Deetee that tuway or scanner chatter could have been “in play” the night Morgan disappeared, and would like to know if that has been investigated specifically.

    Hello Blink,

  47. questioner says:

    Trying for the 4th time:

Going to try to post this once again, it didn’t seem to take the first two times.

Before I start this series of possibilities, let me say that I need to search for other crimes in places near or within large driving distances of Charlottesville, but yet reasonable distances concidering the concert that was going on at JPJ on Oct 17th 2009. If Morgan wasn’t plowed down by a vehicle, and so many feel that she wasn’t, then I need to search the opposite. If her bones were fractured by something other than a vehicle, then let’s try to make some connections in these cases, if it’s possible.

At this point, I’m also going to ignore ages, because I feel there were two men involved, and also ignore faces because it’s not going to do any good to focus on that damned sketch.

This case is from Dec 2011 in South Carolina.

Beverly Hope Melton’s Killer Had Already Stalked Another Woman That Day

It appears that Nickolas Jermaine Miller was looking for a white woman for Christmas. On Christmas Day, he’d been fired from his job, his girlfriend had thrown him out of the house, and he wanted to give himself something. Something soft and cute and female and white.

Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said investigators do not believe Miller knew Melton.

“To our knowledge, he did not know her. She was just a random victim,” Matthews said.

Matthews said robbery does not appear to have been a motive, as Melton’s purse was found at the scene.

“He didn’t take her pocketbook,” Matthews said, “so it appears the motive was sexual assault.”

Matthews said deputies found a “significant amount of evidence” at the scene.

Thank you Blink! If LE has someone in their sights, maybe a little undercover work could be done to get answers and to remind those in the know of the huge reward available. Thanks also for the profile info on leaving a body unburied. Interesting. Finally, thanks for the tidbit about the perp possibly being a substance/alcohol abuser. I think I remember you stating that previously. Very, very interesting.

  49. Sydneyfrog says:

Ok, Blink, here is the link to part 7 of the Dateline show regarding the West Mesa murders. This is the story regarding the satallite images I was wondering about previously. 50. A Texas Grandfather says:

    deetee

The latest scanner that I own is a solid state unit built in 1995. This is a desktop unit that is programmable. I can select a single frequency or a group of frequencies that I want to monitor. The scanner will be limited to the traffic within those frequencies. This is a recieve only unit.

The advances in radio because of cell phones since that time make this unit obsolete because of lack of two way and recording capability. It like me, is old but still functional. LOL.
