Former UVA Cop Charged With Rape: Sean Michael Horn Faces Bond Hearing Today
Charlottesville, VA- Sean Michael Horn, 42, current Albemarle County reserve deputy and former police officer for the University of Virginia as well as the Albemarle Sheriffs Office was arrested last evening for rape. The arrest follows an extensive investigation conducted by the prosecutors office.
While there has been no specifics released, and it is the policy of www.blinkoncrime not to identify alleged victims of sexual crimes, we have learned that a complaint of rape against Horn was received in the Fall of 2011.
The arrest follows what can only be described as a series of chaotic incidents and events affecting Albemarle county law enforcement officers since 2009 at a minimum.
Following the death of 18 year old Greene County resident Colby Eppard on New Years Day 2010 by police gunfire, 7 Albemarle county officers were either suspended and/or demoted. Caleb Marden, a decorated sharp-shooter who served in Iraq was fired. Denise Lunsord, prosecutor for Albemarle county and North Garden resident, cleared all officers of any wrongdoing from the incident.
Eppard allegedly stole a neighboring Greene County patrol car and traveled almost 60 miles to Albemarle county. Although off duty Greene Sgt Randall Snead was out of his jurisdiction, Snead was among the officers in pursuit of Eppard and participated in the ambush to stop the teen. Snead’s former mentor and Sherriff, Willie Morris, committed suicide on January 28th.
Although he was on desk assignment pending the investigation of Eppard’s death, Snead responded to the scene of Morris’s home where he was located and rushed to the hospital. Morris was removed from life sustaining efforts without ever regaining consciousness. A suicide note blamed his tinnitus condition.
In a recent election, Steve Smith won the Sheriff slot running against Snead, and has since met with controversy after releasing nearly all of his staff. An email criticizing Smith was received by several news outlets from a previously fired Albemarle County Lt. Scott Cox, then a Greene county deputy who has since been released. Horn has Sheriff Smith listed as a friend on his facebook profile. Cox was among the Albemarle County Officers who was demoted after 18 years of service in the scandal.
Albemarle county is also the home of The Anchorage Farm, where murdered Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington was recovered after exhaustive searches of the areas surrounding the JPJ arena, UVA campus and private LE searches failed to locate her. Harrington disappeared from a Metallica concert at the John Paul Jones Arena on October 17, 2009 after being refused re-entry by security. DNA evidence has linked the Harrington case to a suspect in an unsolved rape in Fairfax, VA in 2005. Former lead detective now retired, Lt. Rader, has only indicated that forensic link means that Morgan came into contact with that individual prior to leaving Charlottesville.
Efforts to confirm whether Sean Horn was working the event as a UVA officer that evening have not been returned.
Corrine Geller, public information officer for the Virginia State Police, whose agency leads the probe into Morgan’s homicide responded to our inquiry as to whether or not Horn was a target of their continuing investigation this morning:
“The investigation remains ongoing at this time. I’m not able to comment on who our agents have or have not looked into during the course of their investigation.”
Horn lists Virginia Tech among his educational credentials on his facebook account, where Harrington was a junior at the time of her disappearance. It is not known if the two were acquainted.
Horn is being held in the Albemarle Regional jail pending his bond hearing today.

So the shirt had blood on it, her attacker’s blood, presumably in addition to Morgan’s? Knife attack and he got cut maybe? Did he cut himself going over a barbed wire fence and then thought he better take the shirt with him? How did it end up on the bush?
As to Morgan’s placement on AF: There are dense woods between Red Hill Rd and the field she was placed in. If he could access the field, he sure as heck could have place her in the woods, where she could have gone unnoticed FOREVER. WHY AF? Why that particular location? So frustrating.
Holding the release of Sketch – I cannot figure out WHY? What good reason would they have not to release it immediately?

I agree with Fuhrman that someone with knowledge and NOT sketch placed the shirt there as I have always said. It was placed there the day only a handful of people knew the search was going to commence and they wanted to keep it confined to near campus.
Pep, what I will say is that Morgan Dana Harrington will have the last word here. She made him bleed and given the shirt color he likely did not notice it was on there. Does that mean the person that put it there was unaware also? I would bet on it.
Like he probably was not aware his DNA was in the Fairfax DB.
These are the mistakes that get criminals caught.

Did y’all notice the first place flyers were dropped off in the new campaign was at Crossroads Grocery in North Garden? I Googled it and if its the one I found, it’s right across the street from the North Garden Volunteer Fire Department Station #3. The next blitz is coming on June 23 at a hardware store.
The layout at AF has not been my strong point in this investigation. In my mind when I hear gates I think 1)the front gates at AF which were not locked and were open; 2)the gates at the little turnaround off Red School Road where the cyclists might have stopped which possibly had a regular lock, and 3) a gate off Blandemar farm Road that had a combination lock and led to an old homeplace? Would someone please get me up to speed on these possible entrances? And which one did they refer to on the latest show? Thanks in advance!
So presumably whoever placed the shirt on the bush did not realize there was blood on it (silly assumption though, kind of naive in this DNA era) and was trying to direct LE and public suspicion towards the UVA area?
There is, as I have mentioned before, an overlapping of several communities right there at 15th and Grady, one being UVA student and faculty, another being Old Money, and another being middle-class and poor African-American. In the 1970s and earlier many of the blacks were the maids, yard laborers, nannies, and fraternity cooks of the wealthy whites. There is very likely still resentment about that long standing “arrangement.” I wonder about the connection to the large outlying farms and estates? No doubt the same arrangement was in place in the county dating back to slavery times. Extended families lived in both city and county too.
From everything I have read about the Fairfax victim of Sketch, he was not taking any prisoners.
He attacked her suddenly and violently from behind, after having verbally interacted with her beforehand.
He used shock and awe. He strangled her to the point of virtual unconsciousness.
If I remember right beat her brutally as well.
How do we know what Sketches M.O. is ? How can we say he just wanted to rape her, but she fought back so he became enraged and raped and beat her to death?
The Fairfax victim was severely beaten and raped …they obtained Sketches’ original DNA from her ( I am assuming semen.) If he had not been interrupted he may well have killed her…to me his MO is sadistic, violent….. domination and control. He gets off on that aspect as much as any rape.

I still think it is connected to “security personnel,” either on or off duty that night, resulting in some sort of cover up. Tied somehow to young, inexperienced, poss moonlighting LE from some local jurisdiction.

The VFD in North Garden used to have a website with many photos of training functions as well as the firefighters themselves. As of 6/11/2012, it is “under maintenance”. Of course that could mean anything. Tango, thanks for posting that info particularly since it was reported that the original “Sketch” fliers had been taken down. Any idea which hardware store? I can’t think of any hardware stores, at least along that general stretch of 29.

Well, I guess that would explain the reluctance of LE to release the sketch of Sketch. For Sketch to have been a plant, the real perp would have to have knowledge of Sketch’s crimes and would suspect his DNA is in the CODIS database, or the plant is much less effective, although it would still succeed in diverting attention to the area it was found. Why would LE suspect a plant (or be fairly certian of the plant) so quickly after the results were returned for the shirt. What do they know (with such certainty) about the shirt/sketch that makes them confident enough to not release the sketch, when he may be out trolling for his next victim? Puzzling.

Cosmo, I assume you mean the shirt was planted. I would like to hear your theory…. I would be lying if I said that thought never crossed my mind as I know it has others, but I just don’t see how. It’s been confirmed now. Sketchs’ blood was on Morgans Pantara shirt. Someone would have to get blood from Sketch and put it on the shirt then plant it, all without leaving their own DNA.

Just a thought. Sketch’s blood (dna) is on shirt and a different DNA is under her fingernails. Could this be why they did not want Sketch released? If the Fairfax victim is not in this country would that influence a case for that rape? This I am sure has been discussed a hundred times.

Frankly, even if the only tie into Sketch is through Morgansshirt it still doesnt let him off the hook- it doesnt answer the question of why Rader made the statement of met up with “at Charlottesville prior to her death-”-the shirt could have been removed afterthe placement on AF- Morgan could have bled out after death- her wounds could have been “seeping” if the link is semen he could have ejaculated many times even after she was gone or dying…
What would make Morgan undoubtedly “alive” when Sketch left a link?

If so then how when and where did someone gain access to this and why go thru the trouble at all… risking getting caght planting the shirt..and then risk beinng tied to Sketch yourself along with a missing dead girl…?
as for the overdose thought- again who would go thru the trouble of making an overdose look like a murder and rape from a known rapist? Why not just plant drug evidence near the body and leave the Sketch evidence with the drug evidence… sealed in a baggie- eveyone would have thoought “Sketch” accidentally left behind blood evidence on what ever Morgan Harrington SUPPOSEDLY oded on…
THAT would make more sense than taking a chance the shirt would never be found- never be collected and opening up the possibility that the evidence would be inadvertantly lost due to contamination- bad weather- wind -dirt- rain- sun bleaching – or a needy bum walking by – or Pantera fan walking by who wanted that shirt, or police stupidity or carelessness or faulty testing..

my thought process after all of this time is that it is possible that she OD’d and someone covered it up. they WOULD go through a lot of trouble to cover that up if they were with her. i am not saying i think that is what happened, but after all of this time and going back over it all again and again … with no video of Morgan, no witnesses, no answers from the friends, no answers from JPJA, no answers from UVA, no answers from LEO, no answers from VSP, no answers from JADE, no answers from Blink, no answers from FBI … wow … that is a lot of people and organizations very close to the case with a tremendous of amount of access, resources, people, etc. and after 2+ years .. yeah my thought process is that the only cover up would be friends have to cover for the fact they were with her when she OD’d and got scared and staged the rest. broken bones and the rest could be due to any number of things. blood on the shirt could be mishandling of evidence. all of the missing information chalk up to human error and incompetence. that is sure what it is looking like at this point. shoot even blink has moved on to other cases.

morgan’s dna on the shirt doesn’t mean anything other than someone with Morgan’s shirt could have put it their … i.e. friend.
as far as the blood / DNA from perp … if the parents know that Morgan od’d and they talked to the police and everyone is really on the same page, then there is no harm in sending out the message to save the next girl and for everyone to be safer and to look out for bad people,etc. it would continue to be a legacy and a Morgan’s death would have a positive powerful effect on the community. everyone wins, case closed.

Looking at all the facts known to this case, in no way does it point to an overdose. Even with all the missing information, there is enough in my opinion that shows Morgan was murdered. The missing information is the who, how, and why. I guess I don’t understand why anyone would still be questioning that. Just read the new article Blink. OK, I rarely post anything because although I have followed this case, I don’t follow it as closely as I once did.. and usually am not informed enough to say much. Someone please catch me up and keep me from going WTF here! Blink have we confirmed 100% that the DNA relating this to sketch was indeed found on the shirt? If so, how does that relate to the reference Gil made of Morgan being a semen soaked rag? Who’s semen? Who’s DNA does that connect to? Obviously not sketch’s in my mind.. So is shirt a plant? Does this solidify that there was more than one attacker?

The placement of the t-shirt outside in the bushes lends itself to being planted.
Now if the DNA on the shirt matches a suspect in a Fairfax rape it appears the planted evidence takes on a whole new perspective.
Either the suspect in Fairfax was responsible for Morgan’s murder or someone wants us to think that.
How hard would it be for a LE person to get evidence from a DNA lab?
Is it possible to plant DNA on a T-shirt, plant it near the crime scene in order to mislead the investigation?

Dr. Pepper , Would have loved to have had someone familiar with Morgan’s case here watching the program with me. I re-wound it over half a dozen times to re-watch it . I thought several times “did I really hear what I thought I heard them say ” .
RE: the dna / I heard judge J say the shirt had Blood from the perp on it. I did not know if she had misunderstood or was guessing blood or if that was a new bit of news. the shirt Did have Morgan’s dna on it as well. Judge J did go along with the premise that there was probably not any dna on Morgan’s remains. Several reasons were given , 1 being that her body had been exposed to the elements & not for a short time period. The expert she was talking to did not hear the weather conditions outside in VA … they were comparing Morgan’s remains to those of the Anthony baby whose murder occurred in FL in the HEAT of summer 100+ degrees daily & also the Anthony baby was locked inside a trunk for about a week under those extreme temps. SO , in my humble Alabama opinion , You cannot compare what might be forensically possible from Morgan’s remains by comparing her to the Anthony baby remains. It had snowed in VA numerous times before her remains were located. I am holding onto hope that they were able to get deep tissue samples from Morgan from deep within an almost fully skeletonized female that I have only seen on 1 other occasion on a crime show documentary. On that show there was a female who was for the most part appearing to be fully skeletonized , however , they were able to get deep tissue samples from deep within her pelvis , even though to the eyes it looked impossible .
Sometimes while reading & re- reading information something just clicks like a lightbulb ,you know like I’m holding onto a little string & turning it on because I think “Ah HA ” but then turning it back off because I feel uncertain & do not have “Proof” .
Well this morning it clicked after reading what Mark Furman had to say .. well PART of what he had to say.
He was saying that this was not a crime that the perp had planned ahead for & his reason was the placement of Morgan’s remains.
She was not totally hidden & Mark Furman remarked that from where she was placed on a big farm ,the perp knew her remains would certainly be found.
Well this just truly takes me back to the green house that was at Sutherland Farms that also burned to the ground that very morning .
I mean what better way to deflect attention away from oneself &
a huge home that burns to the ground as a raging inferno ?
Make the placement of a young coed out in the full view of God & everybody & make it happen the day of the fire so it will take the attention of the fire & what happened & throw all of that attention over to the puzzle of the “girl in the field” & Not onto the bizarre house fire.

Interesting.. While I wanna fully support and believe in LE, I am torn by how many people very obviously wanted this case to disappear. That statement from Gil was made in one of her writings (I believe).. I found today that I can’t access some of those writings on the findmorgan blog. The ones immidiately following Morgans death. The ones about driving to Anchorage Farms and the sky being mottled gray.. or the ones about laying with her corpse. The blogs stop at February 22.. almost a month after Morgans body was found, and any previous blogs aren’t there.. The detailed ones about retrieving Morgans body. Perhaps it’s just me not seeing how to go back further.. I know in my mind what used to be there. Anyway,I don’t know if the “seman soaked rag” reference was all the way back then or more recently.. Alexandra I’m glad you remember seeing it! I think Gil has been telling us bits of info all along.. If you read this, I believe she was telling us about the DNA on the shirt way back when.. So then my question is what DNA do they have from semen? No matches or connections to anyone? Not sketch? Gil has protested all along that her daughter was raped.. She’s also said “men” in plural several times and eluded to the belief that there was more than one. Sketchs blood is on the shirt.. I’ve always believed it was just him, but if the DNA match is a bloodstain shirt, I think I’m starting to believe it was more than him.

Coming back from our trip to NYC to visit Alex and taking hold of my own home and settling in again I keep thinking: wouldn’t it be great if our lives were more like laundry. Such a wonderful process; the stretched out, sweat stained, frankly odorous stuff of living is miraculously reconstituted. A do-over! With reasonably minor effort all the dirty/unkempt/tangled/rough items we contact are cleansed and deodorized and folded back into their original configuration; a sweet smelling rescue.
Life in general and our lives in particular don’t usually work out this way. I wish we were laundry with a fragrant transfiguration looming. Somehow our reality cannot be folded into nice straight little piles any longer, even with HUGE effort and work. It just ain’t happening. After almost 1 year of struggling to find justice for Morgan Harrington’s murder, we are left with bloodstained clothing on our laps. We wish so much that life indeed really was like the miracle of laundry.

I have the same question as you do regarding how Sketchs blood on the pantera shirt would be the answer to the question of why Gil would write such a descriptive and graphic analogy.

I first heard of Morgan on CNN. My first thought/intuition was that of her falling off the bridge.
I expected to hear on the news very early on that LE had found her in bushes by tracks.
When that did not happen, I became very curious. Since I trust my intuition to some extent anyway, I began to search in all directions.
I was very interested in Gil’s words (as I suspect she “knows” on some level, what happened to her beloved daughter) Gill said things like “my father was a diplomatic courier” , “Morgan was a sacrificial lamb”"Morgans bones were crushed” **** “Morgan was used for a sperm rag”**** and so on. She put it all out there, baring her soul and her heart, She did not care, her daughter was dead, and nothing else was as important as finding her killers! (this is the impression that I got of Gill. I respect her a great deal. (I have a daughter. It is called empathy) I try to give my honest opinions and thoughts, but they are not always well received, and I can understand why, but I do not worry about it, because my main goal
is to see murderers caught and off the streets where they cannot harm another child/woman.
The answers are there. It seems they are hidden just out of sight.
And yes, I suspect a huge coverup by someone/someones. I think this because what should have been a very quick recovery of Morgan turned out to be just the oposite. WHY???

Purrdasy thanks for finding that post of Gil discussing bloodstains that never comeout- …that in itself makes me wonder too because I would think if Gil is discussing the Pantera shirt then that would still be in evidence, I would think all of the clothing recovered would be… but maybe not as the bracelet was returned.
Perhaps that post goes to the assumption that Gil may be writing poetically and not just from facts…again I do not know-
Hopefully someday when the B/g are caught and brought in for trial we WILL know and all evidence will lead to a successful prosecution.

–I dont know how hard it would be- I guess it depends on many factors in following the WM3 case I found out that many of the LE officers were later in trouble for raiding the evidence locker and reselling weapons and coolers and drugs and money etc… so it is possible- in fact some believe that the blood found on the necklace pendant was planted later by well meaning officers- as they had DEchols blood samples in evidence-
But there is a major difference there- they had several vials of blood in evidence because they withdrew it from Echols- – if Sketchs DNA/blood from the FF assault was in evidence I would assume that it was not a whole vial it would be a very small sample as I am sure if someone took it to plant they wouldnt have risked taking it all….and also like the blood in WM3 case-it had already been tested and ran- so there for -it would have a blood preservative in it which can be found in testing.
So in closing Ill say i dont know you could be right or wrong it all depends and still IMO it seems like a big leap to think a FF officer or someone with access to FF evidence or lab testing stuff would plant DNA from Sketch to a shirt of a girl who was just MISSING at that point not found dead or raped…

The bush is at the edge of “Shady Grady”. Maybe this guy has a network of minions at his disposal, however large, or small. Perhaps he’s a person of authority, who uses local “down and outs”, to do his dirty work. This guy is definitely a person that is in a position of authority and he has the gift of gab. He appears trustworthy. I believe that he tricked Morgan into his car. He was trying to do so, with the first known victim, right? He had talked to her prior to attacking her? I think I had heard that it was from a vehicle, that he first spoke to her. What type of vehicle? Was it a black Jeep? Was it something else? A black man was stopped by a contractor, on the back side of Anchorage Farms and the contractor was told, by the man, that he was Mr. Bass’s brother. The contractor thought this was odd and notable. That happened in the Summer of 2009. Has he since, sold a car and bought a Jeep? Is there any way to cross check that, against DMV records? Whatever car the lady saw that night, and then the Jeep. I don’t know. I think it was Sketch that killed Morgan. I think he’s running scared. He’s in the area of Charlottesille and he works for either the local government, a church organization, or he’s a prior cop. He definitely has prior military experience. He may even be in possession of night vision gear. I think he’s a mixture of personalities, much like BTK and The East Coast Rapist. Not the same guy, but he is much like that. I don’t come here much. I’m on the Facebook discussions, but this is the only time I’ve come here, and it was all beacuse of hearing about the carpenter encountering the Jeep driver. I think that this is significant information. That carpenter could add information to the sketch and the new printed picture of “Sketch”. You guys are closing in on him. I know you’ll catch him soon. Something will click and the answer will come. He’s a punk. He’s scared. He’s a loser. He’s nervous and his blood pressure is high. He’s a local. Folks know him. ..but do they *know* him? ..not yet, but soon they will.

Oh Alexandra that is an interesting scenario…..
It is known that a certain local security company owner with a prior rape arrest, who along with members of his staff are involved in a type of boxing in the ring.
Someone who knows Sketch may have known of a prior arrest of his, but would not necessarily have known about the DNA yielded from the Fairfax case, as Sketch probably was not aware of its existence either. Even local LE would not have likely known about Fairfax DNA.
It is possible that someone got blood directly from Sketch and planted the shirt, someone who along with Sketch was a perp or present and involved with the brutal beating, rape and murder of Morgan.
Sketch does not seem to be the type that works with other people in his blitz like attacks, and Fairfax victim was attacked on foot by him with no car involved. An older more experienced Sketch likely to have wheels and who knows could have tried to dispose of his first victim by removing her from the scene in a car if he had a chance to rape and kill her before he was interrupted.
WHY plant the Tshirt with Sketch and Morgans tiny hairs on it? To warn Sketch you are going down ….to incriminate Sketch and remove any trail to themselves? I don’t know.

I’m curious if Sketch is even alive. If he is, maybe we don’t recognize him for a reason. First, maybe friends/aquaintences don’t believe this man could be the least bit evil. Secondly, maybe he no longer looks like the sketches. Just suppose he’s shaved his head, narrowed his nose, lost weight and maybe wears glasses or colored lenses? Prayers for a BIG break in this case.

go look at all my posts over three years … of course i don’t think she overdosed … this case was going no where and mainstream has no more info than they did 3 yrs ago. relax peeps … it is in civil suit hands now and should all be revealed. unless JPJA / UVA really do own the courts.
