J2K (helllooooo, Friend!!!), you said “That victim was in her 20s, walking alone along a side street on a Saturday night in the fall, and was jumped from behind and carried off to the place of attack.”

    ____________________________________

That is bugging me, too. How does one so instantly disable grown women to the degree that at least one (from ’05) is “carried” to the site of her rape? Head trauma? Taser? What? And if head trauma to the degree that she had to be carried, is it plausible she had the wherewithal to recall his face–and scratch it? I dunno.

FWIW, Appalachian Power owns the parcel to which you refer, not that ownership has all that much to do with access on such a piece of land.

Taser. Definitely. No doubt in my mind.

  2. ode says:

This is something to think about if Ms. Pham is related which we do not know. You have to wonder if the DNA was back on the shirt than it probably does not match the DNA from 2005. Something else has linked it. The sketch is of a man 30- 40 years old and I think that was 5 years ago. He would be old enough to have children college age. Children have friends. Does anyone remember seeing Ms. Pham on the facebook of any of the POI’s that we looked at? Could the link be her connection to the son of the man in the sketch? Does that make any sense?

  3. GnM says:

I don’t believe wondering about the connection to AF is based on his race. The puzzlement comes from the fact that no one like this has shown up on our “radar” as far as I know. He does not fit the profile I think many of us had in mind – white, early 20s, looks like a college kid. I’m stumped.

  4. Eloise says:

OMG is all I can say! This is GREAT news!

Blink, do you think the age is accurate? Yes, I wonder if there is any relation to any of the atheletes that were present that night? Not trying to profile, I think it has to be asked. Does anyone suppose he could look younger without facial hair?

God Bless The Harrington’s, I know they having been waiting for a break!

  5. mag603 says:

There are THREE cases her, right?
Vanessa Pham is a recent murder, Morgan’s murder, and the 2005 abduction and unsolved sexual assult.

  6. mag603 says:

Also, I believe there was a lacross player from Fairfax…but I can’t seem to locate the roster at the moment.

  7. PamVA says:

I am sticking with my gut feeling that this person was impersonating a police officer, EMS worker or firefighter. Morgan would not have gone with this person willingly.

I am on your page, have been since day one.

  8. Saramom says:

Kudos to this dear Fairwax woman for reporting this horrific crime committed against her. I hope she is feeling empowered and proud today.
    ******************
Way to go TEAM BLINK–such dedication and expertise.

  9. fish says:

Is Arnold Wendell Chambers accounted for at 3744 Monacan Trail Road house or trailer?
Similar features. I know he’s 47 but five years ago would have made him 42, 41 and maybe he looked young for his age.
    Do they have his DNA?

Just asking. As I begin to wonder if there is not a connection to Anchorage Farm between RSOs, drugs, employees of AF, and a crime that we all believe took two. Or have we changed on that?

    Multiple Perps in Morgan’s case?

Blink, do you still think a female planted that shirt or have I confused you with someone else.

  10. lizzy says:

So all those photos and videos that peeps were searching for a glimpse of Morgan. Now, an even harder job, right? Hunting for this guy? Was he inside, or only outside?

I’m back to how/why did she get outside in the first place? It may be 2010, but I ASSURE you that a beautiful young blonde hanging out with this guy would be more likely to be recalled than if she was with EMH. Sad, but true.

And, with some squinting, I’m sorry to say this guy might clean up well. Squint, imagine some/all of the facial hair gone, some age-appropriate nice clothes (or a uniform?), add a modulated voice a little on the deep side, or an authoritative tone, and . . . Of course, he could be all rough on the edges, and just good at the grab and abduction. Or, how would he look in a chauffeur’s cap?

BUT, why did Morgan go outside?

  11. Tobias Gregson says:

Maya wrote “I’m a little troubled by so many people unable to figure out how he could relate to AF. Pray tell me it isn’t due to the color of his skin. I wish I didn’t have to say that, but it seems too likely that is the reason.”

I agree that we don’t want to get caught up in the racial aspect but it seems important in at least one regard. I would have to guess that the vast majority of people who live around, or have some familiarity with, AF are white. If it’s a non-white perp we’re looking for, he should be easier to identify.

  12. lily2 says:

Could the stab wound on Pham possibly match an injury to Morgan’s bones connecting the weapons?

  13. GnM says:

I wonder if there are any taxi drivers in Cville who fit the description … security guards …

  14. worriedmom says:

Another similarity to a RSO — currently incarcerated, so couldn’t be the perp in Pham, but looks like the sketch to me — can’t tell when he was incarcerated. Could be since Morgan. . .

    Registration ID : 7693
    Name : RIVAS, JOSE, M
    Sex : Male
    Race : White
    Age : 49
    Height : 5 Feet 06 Inches
    Weight : 165 lbs
    Hair Color : Brown
    Eye Color : Green
    Palm Print : Needed
    Finger Print : On File
    Violent : Yes
    Status : INCARCERATED

  15. Doug says:

Are all RSO’s required to have a DNA profile registered with LE. Or is it just the violent ones? If so, that excludes a lot of possible suspects. Maybe someone with a violent past, but not any sex crimes requiring submission of a DNA sample.

  16. Gerta says:

Blink, maybe now is a good time to remember that successful folks actually have a higher failure rate that runs parallel to their successes. You know why? Because they are willing to try more, risk more, and go to greater lengths to find resolution. I ♥ this site and all that ya’ll do behind the scenes is remarkable…I will however always feel that twinge of sadness that there is a need for such a place.

Thank you for the kind encouragement.

  17. ross says:

The reward is $150,041.00 The additional $41 is money (I believe) raised by people in Morgan’s dad’s office.

    38.Word Girl says: July 1, 2010 at 2:00 pm
Is that a period or comma in the reward amount listed in this press release?
Looks like it’s $150.041? Tempted to make snarky economy jokes

  18. acho says:

All right, B, if you have no doubt these victims were tasered, let’s think along those lines.

Who owns tasers? Real LE, security guards, and those who pretend to be LE. Some overlap and moonlighting in there, of course. Who else?

Who does RMC Events use for security? Charlottesville’s local security services? Easy enough to find out who those people are.

What music venues/bars are near those locations in Fairfax, and what security resources do they use? How about those hospitals nearby — do they outsource security services? (I know we have/had some Fairfax locals on BOC …)

    Now, is there any overlap?

Again, these are questions I hope LE is considering.

  19. worriedmom says:

    Also an eerie resemblance here:

I want to be careful here. If he is in the system, they would not be putting out a sketch.

  20. deetee says:

i see some resemblance fish. not earth shattering though.

i still need some meat to chew on here folks. why is 2005 perp way off the chart on what we were looking for?

blink, care to give some hints on what 2005 perp fills in for you?

  21. GnM says:

IMO the height and general build of the guy is key as well. I’m 5 ‘ 6. Just seems like if I was lucid, I could tell if the guy was 5’6 or closer to 6’0. The nose and the mouth are what stand out for me on the sketch. I have to think someone will see this and KNOW who it is. I am praying.

Also no mention of a weapon on the wanted poster or in story. Does that mean there was no weapon in the 05 attack?

  22. Saramom says:

Mystery man could have family, friends in the North Garden area–maybe even an ex-wife or girlfriend. Hmm..

  23. Twinkletoes says:

Did anyone download the friends list of little miss wanna-be-hippie daughter? I’d like to compare the drawing with her associations.

  24. PamVA says:

Off Topic but this isn’t looking any better for this little guy…

  25. GnM says:

Interesting to look at an unrelated case in KY — compare the “sketch” vs. the pic of the man arrested. http://tinyurl.com/236kme9

Also of interest – How does a creep go from sexual assaults like the one in 05 to murdering Morgan? What was different?

  26. Twinkletoes says:

Fish, you might be remembering a comment I made about the way the shirt was spread out on the bush indicating it was likely put there by a female (because I think of us as neater, lol) and if I recall correctly, not to put words in the Blinkster’s mouth, Blink agreed.

Also, wouldn’t a registered sex offender have dna in the system? It seems we are looking for someone we won’t find in the registry. This guy appears to have flown under the radar for some time (offenses as a juvie then got sneakier or did he move away?)

  27. deetee says:

anyone know of/have a pic of the ac police officer that was fired earlier this year?

  28. lizzy says:

“little miss wanna-be-hippie daughter” JB? Or someone else? What was it again that she did to earn your sarcasm? Have parties on her parents farm? I feel like I must have missed something offensive from her.

    POSTED: 3:02 pm EST March 3, 2006UPDATED: 3:30 pm EST March 3, 2006

    FAIRFAX, Va. — Fa
irfax County police arrested a man in connection with an Internet-related abduction and robbery in the Baileys Crossroads area.

A woman told police that she was at home in the 3600 block of Malibu Circle at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday when a man she had been in contact with online knocked on the door and identified himself as a police officer. Police said the man was wearing dark clothing with the word “police” on his shirt.

The man told the woman she was under arrest, handcuffed her and took her to his vehicle, police said. He then drove her to a bank and took money from her account.

The man then drove the woman to the Co
mfort Inn in the 6100 block of Arlington Boulevard and paid for a room, police said. The woman escaped in the process of entering the room. She was not injured.

Police said the man fled in a silver Ford truck.

Police identified 23-year-old Andre Evans as the suspect and attempted to arrest him in the Burke area Thursday
. Evans fled, leading police on a traffic pursuit that ended in Fairfax.

He is charged with abduction with intent to defile, robbery, impersonating a police officer and possession of a stun gun by a convicted felon.

Police want anyone with information about Evans or anyone who may have been victimized Evans to call (703) 246-7800.

The sketch looks like A LOT of people, not sure how much help it will prove to be. If this were just a crime of opportunity, as it appears now, even though there is a connection to another crime, it still may be somewhat difficult to identify the person. Having little or no connection to the victim can prove difficult for LE.

  31. redly says:

It cannot be an RSO as they would have his DNA on file. Has to be someone who has not been caught for something that allowed them to take his DNA before.

    acho,

You can go to the local hunting store and purchase a taser…One of my best friends owns a few. You should see the reaction of males when she turns it on as we leave the downtown mall to walk to our cars….LOL…

  33. fish says:

Do the VSP have someone that may have said he picked up Morgan HH and dropped her off somewhere?

lizzy: I’m going to be Mom3.0 of Switzerland here. I think that Twinkletoes just may have been fed up with the lack of information up till know and was just venting about J. Bass and her lifestyle choices. It’s no big deal. But, I’m right behind Blink on the High Road here. May we all follow.

Also lizzy, good point about how she ends up outside. Yes, head injury, her fall, just grabs a wrong door, remember she was mad and had been crying in the bathroom. I had a concussion not long ago and still lose my train of thought and where I’m going. I have to really concentrate and keep notes.
Can you imagine if she needed help and was deteriorating rapidly because of hers.

    HE had a perfect storm.

  34. GnM says:

Here’s a story on an apartment complex security guard who tried to rape and murder a woman who lived there.

    http://www.houstonpress.com/1998-12-31/news/false-sense-of-security/

Uniform, badges, “official” looking vehicles. Just makes me wonder who is hired for these jobs.

  35. Gypsy DD says:

I would think they have this man’s DNA from the 2005 rape vic. From the DNA they can tell your racial heritage. If they say he is African American then he most likely is.

It is interesting how RTE 29 keeps rearing it’s head in 2/3 of these cases.

Also the power lines that keep popping up..good work J2K.

  36. fish says:

    deetee:
that would be one, Caleb Marden who lost his job with AC. I believe that he was involved with the Eppard shooting in Albemarle County. I’m going off memory here so I will check on it.

  38. localcvillegirl says:

Cat, the sketch may not be exact, but at least it narrows it down a TON. There have been a lot of people assuming this guy was white, or someone Morgan may have known before. From her upbringing (from what we’ve learned about her family) Morgan seemed to be open, friendly, and tolerant of all people…I doubt she would necessarily have seen a black guy as a threat unless he was truly scary. I’ve seen plenty of horrific white guys, too. What this does is give the people of North Garden someone to identify. It makes the pool smaller. As acho says, everyone down that way needs to see this photo.

  39. Kim says:

I disagree only because I think it has cleared some things up, the thought process was very different, just look at the race aspect of who was thought have been responsible for Morgan’s murder? This at least sets us along the track, a track that may not have been the direction most were looking….

    “Cat says:

The sketch looks like A LOT of people, not sure how much help it will prove to be.”

  40. GnM says:

So can just anyone purchase EMT uniforms and accessories like these? http://www.emtoutfitters.com/

It would have been so easy to appear to be a security guard or EMS.

  41. localcvillegirl says:

Oh but Cat, I meant to agree with you. The sketch does look like a lot of people, but at least it identifies the race.

  42. orangeparkgirl says:

Looking at the sketch, it looks like one out of every 5 people walking down the street. From what I can see, there is nothing distinctive about it that would cause someone to say “Hey that’s so-and-so!”. Especially 5 years later, this person could look like anything now.
However, money talks, so I am hoping someone knows, for whatever reason (hear-say, the man boasting, whatever), that this man committed the crime in 2005 but has kept quiet not seeing the use of telling on their friend because, “hey the woman survived, so why get him in trouble”. But now that there’s $150,000 on the line? I think someone’s going to put the pieces together and get themselves a nice reward.

  43. melissab says:

The sketch looks like he could be of Asian decent. The Pakastani/Egyptian type. We have a huge population of them here in N. FL just like anywhere else I am sure but they own a lot of our hotels, gas stations and grocery stores. Come to think of it many are doctors here. He could be a freind to a lot of the college/farm kids. He may even come from a wealthy fam. Pure speculation on my part but it’s a possibility. He doesn’t look too old to me either.

  44. Kaz says:

How great would it be if this discovery brought some justice and resolution for these families? I do wonder what this individual was doing between 2005 and now, though; if he was incarcerated and recently released, or with this new forensic trail that LE expects to be able to tie him to other murders. Hoping this will be the break that they need to put this guy away forever!

  45. Shelly says:

OMG Blinkster, you are one awesome lady. I am floored & speechless! If anyone ever doubts this lady plays an important role in helping find the monsters in this world who prey on innocent people, just put the doubt away!

High fives,Blink, and I continue to read and pray. I am speechless.

  46. Twinkletoes says:

Lizzy, she didn’t so much earn my sarcasm as lose my respect when she started joking about Morgan dying in a Pantera tee-shirt. And frankly, I find the whole “woe is me, I’m such a deep, dark poetess, let’s smoke pot and paint on eachother’s thighs” thing more than little annoying. I held that in until now. Thanks for asking. I feel better having said it. ;O)

  47. J2K says:

acho – It’s been too long, ol’ friend!
As usual, looks like you’ve been (figuratively!) hittin’ the Goblet before quittin’ time.

(you remarked:) “… How does one so instantly disable grown women to the degree that at least one (from ‘05) is ‘carried’ to the site of her rape? Head trauma? Taser? What? And if head trauma to the degree that she had to be carried, is it plausible she had the wherewithal to recall his face–and scratch it?”

B seconded your Taser suggestion. As a way to subdue a victim in order to move her away from public view, it certainly makes sense – more so than bashing someone’s head if the intent is to rape them in a different location (blood trail).

That said, I can’t help but think that if a Taser was used, the victim would have recounted that to police in her report and it would have been included in the info released – pro forma when an unusual weapon or method of attack is used in an assault, as not only is it an identifier, but it also indicates a premeditative perp that prowls for victims.

Correct J2K, except if that identifyer connects the cases, and for investigative reasons do not want that released. Personally, do we really think a guy goes to that trouble to preform a stranger sex assault/abduction and he just stops? 5 Years later, I’m thinking NO.

Still believe there were 2 perps. I am not convinced this is Morgan’s perp, but I am convinced he knows who is. We have passed on a lead since the sketch was released that would have you off your chair.
