Trying to think of links to Charlottesville and NOVA: 1. recent Fed. government contractors locating in Charlottesville 2. Any service organizations with accounts in respective areas e.g. delivery drivers, security services, hospitality industry 3. Yes, university connections between GMU/ NVCC or UVA/ Piedmont Comm. College
The area of the 2005 attack and the area where Ms. Pham was found also include the Vienna area. Chain Bridge Road (Fairfax City and Vienna connector) and route 50/ Lee Hwy intersect one another.

Sorry, just noticed Katie’s comments July 1, 2010 at 10:22pm. Nice to know some folks are thinking alike and these events are jogging memories.

I was doing some facebook surfing and found a man from the area with connections to the NGFD who works at Servpro, I thought it was an interesting thought, since Servpro employees might have worked in the area. Also, the EMT to whom he is connected stated right after Morgan was found that he had given a tip to LE. Just thought I would throw the Servpro idea out there.

I know that you cannot posssibly address all the misprints or misinformation but is this just inaccurate?

“Harrington’s friends say she left early from the Oct. 17 Metallica concert held on the University of Virginia campus in Charlottesville. In a voicemail message, she told her friends she would find her own way home.”

Read the Washington Examiner and then if you could, please help me with this. I’m now really confused. She didn’t leave early. She wanted back in. Did this reporter not read anything in the last eight months??? Or does he have some inside info?
    But I have to ask…
She didn’t leave a voice mail did she? To Sarah? Can anyone or thing be heard in the background?

I’m only concerned because this man, this reporter is reaching thousands of people, please get it right. One person could read something and think differently. Good or Bad.
Makes the call or doesn’t. All because of information.

    Thanks for the help.

The Name of the Shopping Center that I have referenced above is the Pan Am Shopping Center. This area needs to be scoured…There is very new construction going on there! They have recently begun taking down one of the three wooded areas for some kind of development. There is a large apartment community right next to the shopping center. And, just across the street and slightly to the West of the Pan Am Shopping Center is the wooded path that cuts from Lee HWY (Rt 29) to the Vienna Metro. This is where SEVERAL SEXUAL ASSAULTS were interrupted by passerbys over the last three years! This composite matches the many victim descriptions.

Just a few weeks ago, I reported a man to the Fairfax County Police who was sitting on a service Road, on Blake Lane (one stop light West of Nutley & 29 and the Pan Am Shopping Center) He was trying to get the attention of a young Asian or Hispanic girl. He was trying to get her to come off the sidewalk to his open car window (Oakton HS is less than a mile away). When I saw this I pulled into the 7-11 Parking lot to keep my eye on the whole interaction. She seemed tentative and never got within ten feet of the car door but he kept trying to engage her. She saw that I pulled over and was keeping an eye on the situation. When she started to walk toward me, he lingered just a moment or two and made a u-turn to go out onto Blake Lane. He then headed South to go East on Lee Hwy (Rt 29) and she called someone on her phone. I called the police and gave them his description, his car make, color and tag number and the direction he drove off to.

Now, the Fairfax County police were very interested in this. The man was a middle-aged, balding white man with gold metal square glasses who was driving a burgundy sedan. He had both his passenger and driver’s side windows all the way down and for some reason that seemed odd to me, iirc, it was b/c of the weather.

The only reason I mention this is to give the type of scenario or MO that a bad guy might use. This petite young Asian or Hispanic girl was obviously concerned…her body language is what first caught my attention.

Now, I am not suggesting that there is any connection to Vanessa Pham’s murder but the girl did resemble her.

  11. deetee says:

TJ, i see whom you are referring to. can i ask why you think servpro makes it an interesting thought? i know what they do, etc. but i’m not sure what your line of thinking is.

you servpro guy is also friends with a ngvff that took a long road trip after morgan was found and the sutherland blaze was fought.

  12. fish says:

    TJ and deetee:

I can’t be sure but I think that there was property sold in North Garden by someone with that last name. I pay attention to who’s buying and selling. Just in case, someone wants out of town.

No, I’m sure, there was. It caught my eye because I also pay attention to F & R names in that area.

I’ll go find the link. Maybe a Dad but it can’t be that easy. LE would already of put it together if anyone from NGFR.

  13. deetee says:

blink, i’m with you, i have not for one second felt that 2005 perp is who we have been looking for. if you and LE say there is a connection, i will buy that though. perhaps, morgan’s perps learned a technique, like using a taser from him. maybe he helped with disposal/cleanup as a trusted source or as someone that knew how to “clean.”

this case has surprised me so much, so many times i will even go so far as to speculate, perhaps 2005 perp is involved in the tshirt plant in some way.

anyway, 2005 perp and morgan’s perp are not the same person for me until someone can give me something with purchase.

Could he be a person of color from a different region of the US, or from a different country?
Seems to me that would be something to help differentiate.
    Just an idea.”

A “typical southern drawl” is not common to either Fairfax or Charlottesville.

You are right, this might be a tunnel vision problem, in particular if there are not many Indians or middle eastern people around in the area. He could be basically filed under the wrong race.

Re: unsealing documents in the Huguely matter — more details

“However, it is possible that the city Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney or counsel for Huguely, the UVa student accused of killing Love, will file an appeal that could prevent the records from becoming public.

One of Huguely’s attorneys, Rhonda Quagliana, said in court that she needed to discuss the results of Thursday’s hearing with her co-counsel. Dave Chapman, the city’s commonwealth’s attorney, asked the judge in court if he would consider a stay order if an appeal is filed. The prosecutor noted that he wasn’t suggesting that his office would seek an appeal.

    . . . .

Chapman has argued that the media outlets don’t have a First Amendment right of access to search warrant records, with which the judge said he agreed. However, the judge ruled that he believed the media outlets made a case for the public interest not being served by the orders continuing to be sealed under temporary orders.

McGrath ordered that the temporary sealing order be lifted from the following documents:

? The inventory of a search of Huguely’s person will be released with the exception of one item.

? The inventory from a search of Love’s apartment will be released without redaction.

? The search warrant records from a search of a vehicle will be released with redaction of witness names.

? The search warrant records from a May 7 search will be released with witnesses’ names redacted.

Search warrant records involving data from Internet providers or cell phone companies will continue to be sealed.

the guy who was attacking young women near Fairfax Circle and the Vienna Metro, some reports described him as being possibly black, Hispanic or middle eastern. These areas are within miles of George Mason Univ and the GMU Patriot Center…which also has gigs.

    **********************************************************************
Man Assaults Woman Near Metro Station
Metro section:THIS IS FROM THE WASHINGTON POST JUNE 5, 2007

A woman walking away from the Vienna Metro station was sexually assaulted Saturday night, an attack that is similar to attacks last year.
The 50-year-old Vienna area woman was walking on a footpath near the 9500 block of Lagersfield Circle about 10:30 p.m., Fairfax County police said. A man grabbed her, kissed her and pushed her to the ground. The woman screamed, and the man fled. The woman was not hurt.

Last summer, five women reported that they were groped or their pants were pulled down by a man in the vicinity of the Metro station between Aug. 24 and Sept. 11. The description of the attacker in those cases was similar to the description of Saturday’s attacker: a dark-skinned man in his late teens or early 20s, about 5 foot 6 and thin.

    – Tom Jackman

By Focus on Fairfax | June 5, 2007; 10:38 AM ET

OK, he is described as a dark skinned person, not an African American. Could this be the same guy??

  33. acho says:

I am hearing security + cleaning (ServPro comes in and cleans after water/fire damage … I’ve had to use them before, once a very skeevy experience and once very positive … it really depends on where you are/who owns the franchise).

The security piece interests me for the obvious reasons (taser, trust, impersonation). The cleaning piece interests me for the post-crime reasons. I just feel that Morgan either vomited or, if she had any wits about her, did whatever she could to leave clues in that vehicle.

So it’s of interest, IMO, if there is someone with security connections + the heavy-duty cleaning capabilities who could clean and detail — and then somehow get rid of or re-sell — a car. Who called in some favors?

DeeTee, that overnight trip to NJ is not lost on me, either, even now. That individual needs to think long and hard about what he knows. Maybe he knows nothing, maybe he thinks he knows nothing; but I beg him to scour his brain and speak to LE. Coupled with the other FF who gave LE a tip, I think there could be something to all of it … Again, who called in some favors?

I also hope LE will re-contact the carpenter from AF who saw the Jeep on AF property. David Bass told Newsplex (http://www.newsplex.com/home/headlines/97589684.html) that he does not recognize the face in the sketch, but what about the carpenter? Does he know that face?

  34. Haemoglobin9 says:

I live in Harrisonburg and less than a week and a half ago I was out running errands… I stopped at Mcdonalds because it was getting late and I wanted to eat something before I went home..

I pull into the lot and not many people were outside , in fact it was just me and a black man around his 30′s clean shaven and dressed up kinda preppy..

He stood there and kept saying “MAAM… MAAM…”
    REALLY frantic like…

I kept walking and pretended to ignore him and when I got to the door to Mcdonalds..I turned around and said “YES?”

He kept motioning me to come over to him and asked “ARE YOU FROM THIS AREA” …
I THOUGHT about it and said “NO SORRY..BUT IM SURE PEOPLE INSIDE ARE” and I went inside..

“He seemed a bit stunned, like taken aback..”
anyway he never came inside the restaurant..

He looked very similar to this man without facial hair but you never know…people look the same sometimes…i guess. just watch out….I still feel this creep is working this area.

  35. Oscar says:

Seems a lot of people here are having difficulty believing this guy is the perp, or lone perp. Perhaps it’s the preconceived idea that it had to be a college aged white male.

    I find it totally believable.

My take is this POS works alone and I would guess that his friends and family would be stunned to find out he has this side to him. Judging by his vague description, he’s plenty strong enough to lift and carry a 120 lb girl a short distance (vehicle to dump site).

One thing is for sure, he shouldn’t be difficult to identify. He may not have stood out around JPJ at night or Fairfax, but he certainly would stick out around AF. Given his familiarity with AF and being black limits the suspect pool greatly (sorry to those I just offended).

I can imagine there are some people with phone in hand at this very moment saying to themselves “It can’t be him….but what if…..naw, it can’t be him……but what if…” Just make the call!!!

  36. Cat says:

    J2K Says:

I think she walked back into the empty RV lot (it was raining, after all) to make her way back to the stadium – perhaps cooling off and coming to her senses – and was jumped from behind/possibly even assaulted *in* that dark, shrouded lot.

    ——————————————-

I am with you J2K, I now believe that she was forced into a vehicle by surprise, most likely in the RV lot. In the ’05 assault, this was his MO, he also “carried” the victim quite a distance before the assault, which points to me that he has more than enough strength on his own to subdue a person. “Noteworthy” strength would also aid favorably in the disposal at AF. LE NEEDS to be looking for someone of above normal physique, a person that probably works in a field where physical strength is required. Military personnel/LE field, factory worker, landscaper, Farm Worker?

I am definitely interested to know why B still believes that there was more than one Sub. More than one person’s DNA found perhaps?

Need some input from my friends here, so I can quit obsessing over this. Sandridge, link above, is listed as wanted according to Albemarle county sex offender site–as of May, he was accounted for–has rape conviction. He also lists that he is self-employed–SANDRIDGE DISPOSAL–CROZET address.

Could this company have “serviced” AF? Could this guy know mystery man? They are similar in age. Could mystery man have needed help with “disposal” or vise-versa? I just find it odd that this Sandridge guy is now listed as WANTED.

    Thoughts? and Thanks.

    ***********************************************************
I am very concerned about why Gregory Sandridge is listed as missing on the VSP sex offender registry. I am also confused b/c it says his photo date is June 24, 2010. Can anyone make sense of this for me b/c it could be a safety issue for my family b/c of the business he is in. Why would his pic be taken a week ago and then he is listed as missing??

  38. TJ says:

    Deetee & Fish,

I was just trying to go back to people we have discussed from the area and look for FB friends who might meet the new wanted profile. When I came across the Servpro guy, it jumped out at me because we’ve talked about many ways strangers might become familiar with the AF area. Odds are, someone in the AF/BF area has used Servpro or a similar service. I don’t know enough to say anything about this particular guy. But, my NGFF guy did post that he gave a tip to LE shortly after they found Morgan. That always stuck in my head. On the other hand, if he thought a friend had something to do with it, I seriously doubt that he would post anything about giving a tip on his wall.

I do hope this leads to an arrest soon. I hope someone knows this creep, recognizes, and calls immediately.

Blink, thanks for always giving the truth to us straight up on all the cases! We would be lost with out you!

  42. katie says:

@ Concrened Mom: Thank You. Yes, there were SEVERAL Assualts in that area adjacent to rt 29 and the Vienna Metro…some descriptions varied in the details but were generally the same and the ages of most of the woman were younger than the 50 year old cited above.

  43. GnM says:

Here’s my question for the day — if this suspect throws some of us for a loop did it do the same to LE? Was it a surprise or was did it make the pieces come together? I believe back when Morgan’s remains were found that the location surprised LE … at least that is my impression. So, I wonder about this link.

This person likely has a string of rapes and murders behind him (and in front of him if not caught). I wonder how long he has lived in VA … if he is still there now, where he was before. And I wonder if he was alone in Morgan’s abduction, rape, and murder.

  44. Sweetpea says:

I have always felt that Morgan’s disappearance would be linked to an unknown assailant with a history, possible serial. Still wonder about the other girl (black, from a nearby city; sorry can’t recall her name) that was missing and body found during this same period.

I believe that the reason so many are seeing a Latino look is due to the drawing showing straight hair, even in the beard and not the Afro type. I’ve seen the criminal artist’s do their renditions and it is done so quickly, not all that great on specifics.

  45. Judi says:

Well, DNA does not lie, and he has assulted before obviously, at least in 2005. DNA match means no doubt whatsoever this guy was involved. I must admit he does not fit the profile I had in mind. So, if she wasn’t tasered and rendered defensly immediately (otherwise something would have been seen/heard), then the ONLY way I see Morgan leaving with an older man is if she thought he was a security/EMT personnel, or something of that sort. I believe she had more smarts than to just leave with anyone and I will never believe she was hitch-hiking.

This guy must be shitting his pants right now (GOOD!!!). His face is out in the media now with a 150K reward for whomever leads police to him.

So, no matter if he acted alone, was the help or had help, bottom line is that he was involved, his DNA was found, DNA doesn’t lie. His face is all over the place now, someone will turn him in, if for no other reason then the money.

I FINALLY feel like this case is about to be solved and Lady Justice is finally on her way. Thank God. Praying for the Harringtons (as always).

Good Citizen Katie: I am so glad you called LE when you witnessed the parking lot interaction in Fairfax. If you still have all that info, you might remind them of it, just for the Pham case.

We all know it is not easy and it must be a calling for you because why would someone choose such constant heartbreak. So, thank you, thank you for being there for the Harrington Family.

Now, onto Lt. Rader of the Virginia State Police.
I must thank you to him as well. Thank you Lt. Rader. I know that we, especially me, can be a bit tough on you. But, I want to say thank you to you also.
*I say you because I know that you will relay to your team.
*The team that is Law Enforcement across Virginia.
See, I just saw you as the figure head, a leader, a steely Lt. Rader, if you will.

Releasing that sketch gives us in the community something to look for, to pay attention to, people need that. Thank you and Fairfax County, Detective Boone and his team for pulling it together and finally speaking out for that little, 120 pounder that laid in that field. Maybe now, someone will come to justice. The justice you represent, all of you represent wearing that badge!

I would imagine that a somewhat, heavy weight as been lifted from Mrs. Harrington’s tiny shoulders. Please, I know that this woman can take it but should she have to? MY believe is no.
I want her to scream what happened to her daughter from the rooftops. One time, a bit ago, friends here said, I write “palpable”. So does she. Lt. Rader, I must say there is a mass majority out here that are not boneheads, we are smart, we can handle most crap thrown our way. We needed that sketch in order to be aware, to listen to you, to listen to our gut. We need that Gift of Fear. It’s not a bad thing either. It keeps us on our toes! It will no doubt, help our community across Virginia and beyond, if needed.
For this sketchy-guy, it will be a matter of time.
    I also, believe that.
I know that most times I moaned and groaned, bitched and complained about Law Enforcment’s silence. I did understand and know that you were doing a job. But, if I can just say this…I’m really, really thankful that this sketch was released. If you ever doubted it. I promise to pay attention, not just for me, myself, and I. But, for everyone in my community. I promise to watch out who comes in my home, my neighborhood, on my walks, trips to the malls, grocery, ect. To be a uber Mrs. Gravitz, on smack.(Levity here! Please don’t come a knockin’!)

Most importantly that sketch gave young girls everywhere a face. I know you know that they think they have the world-by-the-tail and well, you and I know that is not true.
May that sketch seep into every nook and cranny Virginia has to offer. May he and his friends be caught. If he/they did impersonate an officer? How dare he! I would like to believe that I, that WE all have a friend on the force! One steely, take no prisoners (ok maybe one or two; a little more levity there!;) man that represents
    Morgan Dana Harrington.

But, I can’t say that I whole-heartedly, apologize for my deceased, broken-hearted, loved-to-the-tub, Mother’s so-called “Cricket, cricket” theory but I do want to say thank you from all of us, especially my daughter, who at the tender age of 15, has the world-by-the-tail, knows-it-all, think she is indesructable, and is out and about the State of Virginia.
Because she saw his picture she will payer closer attention, for sure. But would it be too much too ask if someone, Corrine, someone get in front of a camera and tell her. Her and her friends listen if you are in their faces. Kinda of like co-parenting with me, us, your community! Just had to ask.

So, thank you and your esteemed group of colleagues, deep down for your WORK TO DATE, in helping Morgan, Vanessa, and all the victims of violence, named or not. (I guess) I feel we just never say it enough.

Now please, enough of my lovefest!
    Go catch that guy!

acho: I can’t link to that article. Can you send again. I can’t even find it. Thanks.

“I also hope LE will re-contact the carpenter from AF who saw the Jeep on AF property. David Bass told Newsplex (http://www.newsplex.com/home/headlines/97589684.html) that he does not recognize the face in the sketch, but what about the carpenter? Does he know that face?”

Interesting how Gil worded herself here in regards to the shirt.

    Quotes from Gil

Harrington’s parents say they’re happy there’s a break in the case. “It’s no longer a matter of testimony it’s hard evidence,” Gil Harrington said.”It’s DNA. It’s DNA from Morgan’s case linked to a previous case five years ago.”

“This is the biggest break since they released the fact that her shirt was found and returned in Charlottesville,” Gil Harrington said.

    Observer!
Thank you for the warm welcome back – I feel like I’ve returned from an unplanned sojourn away from my online kin. It’s amazes me that one can develop a true family of likeminded individuals through nothing more than a cause, a comment-box, and a Blink…

I did indeed suffer a house-fire, and appreciate your concern. A dehumidifier in our basement self-combusted somehow (ran fine – directly into subpump for several years prior). No warning, I just happened to arise early on a recent Saturday morning and heard a beeping sound, smelled smoke, saw smoke, woke boyfriend, called FD, and five minutes later I’m standing outside of our home barefoot in pajamas surrounded by fire and police trucks, watching black wafts of carbon pour out of all my windows, and yelling at gas-mask-adorned firefighters bravely racing into my home to “FIND MY CATS!!!!!!!!!”

But all is well – fire was quickly put out, homeowner insurance is taking care of the smoke damage and lost possessions, and my two cats still have about 15 lives between them.

Oddly on-topic (sort of), per TJ and acho’s comments on ServPro – that’s the disaster-restoration company overseeing my home’s post-fire cleanup. Two house-cleaners and two contractor-types have been in my digs from 9 to 5 every day for the past 3 weeks. (Apparently ServPro works with thousands of insurance companies, so they’re fairly ubiquitous nation-wide.)

Question, O: Fairfax County’s Cold Case Sexual Crimes Unit is one of only several in the country that has been the recipient of federal funding for reopening thousands of unsolved sex crimes and abductions the region still has on its books, and cracking them via DNA. Do you think this unit played a role in making the connection to Morgan’s case, once the forensic results were in?

If so, does Albemarle County have a similar unit (even if not as well-funded)? I fervently hope that the VSP/ACPD are able to tap resources (e.g., Debbie Smith Act was re-authorized in 2008 for just such a purpose) that facilitate the testing of unanalyzed DNA samples and rapekits waiting in an agonizing backlog –

if this f*cko “hit” in Fairfax, it’s certaily possible he’s also an unprocessed specimen in a crime lab local to C-ville.
