The Nittany Nightmare Continues: More Financial Incest At PSU- Accused Perjuror Gary Schultz Head of Nittany Insurance Pays First Victim Payout AND His Lawyers
State College, PA & Burlington, VT- In the latest example of financial incest involving PSU, The Second Mile, and a bevy of double-dipping board members and executives, we arrive at the first discovery between an accused suspect in the case and his principal interest in an insurance company that recently paid out a settlement to an alleged victim of Jerry Sandusky. As the filing has likely been sealed as a condition of it’s settlement, it is unknown if Schultz or anyone else within PSU in addition to Sandusky was named in the civil action.
Gary C. Schultz, interim
His return to the PSU payroll around the time that a grand jury was meeting about his possible complicity, FOLLOWING his own alleged perjurious testimony begs the question-As Schultz knew he was under investigation as well as Sandusky and Curley-
Did Schultz come out of retirement in anticipation of incurring significant legal fees he did not want coming out of his own pocket?
You read that correctly.
Mr. Schultz, who along with Tim Curley were bound over for trial at their preliminary hearing on perjury charges and a misdemeanor failure to report summons last month, is being provided legal representation costs through Nittany Insurance Company, where he is a paid Director. According to Acting President Erickson, it will also be used to cover any civil settlements and judgements in the Sandusky debacle et al.
This would seem to be in violation of the Vermont Captive Insurance Regulations Section 12, or conflict of interest.
In a letter sent to Penn State Interim President Rodney Erickson, Senator Michael Stack (D) Philadelphia, expressed his concern that taxpayers and donors should not be footing the bill for the Universities necessary legal representation for the various civil and criminal issues and potential settlements.
In a response to Senator Stack, President Erickson assured him that such costs would be accommodated by it’s liability insurance. Nittany Insurance Company is listed as the professional liability insurance company of record on the PSU site as well as the provider for PSU students in programs including the Hershey Medical Center.
President Erickson did not reference Mr. Schultz’s directorship position within Nittany Insurance Company although www.blinkoncrime.com was able to confirm with the Vermont Secretary of State that as of this afternoon, there are no pending changes to its registration.
Gary Schultz’s co-director at Nittany Insurance Company, is Allan Anderson, Former VP and Chief Executive Officer for Hershey Medical Center.
While the captive insurance firm is self-administered, as Director, Schultz would be in a position to review, award, accept, negotiate or reject settlements within the framework of their contract with PSU and appropriate regulatory requirements. Captive insurance companies are often developed as part of a risk mitigation strategy and as an entree to the reinsurance market for payouts exceeding a fixed amount. Registered in Vermont, Nittany Insurance Company was formed in 1993.
It would seem a good starting point for questions on the regulatory and compliance matter might be how the bid is/was awarded for initial self-administered liability coverage directed by a potential party and what the premiums, which are deductible to PSU, were and are?
What adjustments to same have been made in relation to the known incidents and corresponding dates alleged against Sandusky, Curley and Schultz?
What else is Nittany Insurance funding it may have had ample heads up about?
Does Schultz have a poster of Ken Lay in the top of his humidor? Bernie Madoff?

Down memory lane:
Here’s lots of photos where PSU’s Skull and Bones awarded the Schreyers their SABRE award in 2007. Everybody who’s anybody in S&B/PSU is there: Spanier, Curley, the Schreyers and daughter DrueAnn, Dave Joyner, and a special invitee–Bob Poole.
http://www.skullandbones.org/Members/sabre2007.html
If this info is correct, it shows how very important a supporter of PSU football their Skull and Bones org has been:
“Following S&B’s loyal support through the years, on March 31, 1950, the Society mailed out letters to 60 alumni clubs exhorting them to lend their support to the effort for a “Big time College Coach for a Big Time College,” when Bob Higgins retired. We organized student rallies to testify to the fact that the team was moving to another level and needed the high-quality coach to match.
Partly through these efforts Charles “Rip” Engle was hired and he brought with him his “scrawny” quarterback from Brown, Joe Paterno. The rest is history. Rip, as he was affectionately known, was made an honorary member in the fall of 1954″
http://www.orkut.com/Main#CommMsgs?na=2&nst=11&tid=2478191663042071670&cmm=6409127&hl=pt-BR
And another poster there said that during his days, the 60s, newly tapped members (only the student ones, I assume?) ran out onto the field during a football game and got their S&B hat.

Paul Schlicher lives in Yardley, and has had no contact with Jack Raykovitz since they were classmates at Pennsbury High School in 1970. He said his contact then was limited. Incorrect information appeared in Monday’s edition.”

@beejay
Atta gal. Thanked for the link. Imagine someone you have not seen in that many years needing to clarity.
Blink: Got any info on which church Jack went to in Yardley? By any chance St. Ignatius of Antioch?
beejay- Jack’s lineage is in need of Bosley plugs- very sparse.

all this Mbna/PS/Freeh/Raykovick/S&B stuff just makes me ill & JE’s trial look like Disneyland in comparison.
who is big enough to get at this stuff investigatorily? Certainly not Holder @ DOJ. He’s too mild mannered. J Edgar, where are you? This has teasers of being the tip of 1940s organized crime conspiracies like imo. You know eho could get at this stuff? The bygone SEC. Oh gosh, though, didn’t Freeh affiliate with Sporkin?
Blink: yeah, so I see (about JR). I’ve found some loose strings, but not sure & nervous. I couldn’t even find the Nov 14 reference that phillyburbs.com was making the correction to. They published some connection for some reason. What? I know who PS is, as I’m sure you do. And half of the USA. Well, those who read much.
Can ya’ll look at this link and tell me what group these people are a member of? I see officers, “present members”, new seniors, and new juniors. Any clue? Don’t bother sleuthing one by one. Just trying to ID the group:

wrt my question of May 11 at 5:29 pm:
Anybody come up with Nat’l Honor Society?
Look at this, when the Pres of my earlier post was the VP (a year earlier??):

I think that’s it–and has a caption on the above link. Some of the same officers. Raykovitz was an upstanding and outstanding student in high school, apparently.
“RAYKOVITZ, JACK: Interact, Talent Show 1Co- Chairmanl, Student Council Wice Presidentl, Homecoming tChairmanl, Sports Nite, Hike For Hunger tCo-Chairmanl, Prom Committee tCo-Chairmanl, Soccer, National Honor Society 1600 Spur Rd., Yardley”
link won’t post. Is from the graduating class’ yearbook, pg 305.
One other nat’l honor society student is now a pediatrician, grad from PSU Med Schl; another fellow is high school teacher.
I have more; tentative geneaology. IDK what good that’ll do us.

Sorry Beejay, if we did discuss, it went over my head at the time, or I just saw it in new context. I’m bad that way. You did pick up on what I was saying. Who’s “ring” did he kiss to get that membership and why would they want to do it? You did have the right newletter, it was 2003. The timing of some of this stuff is suspect. He is said to be aware of some of the Sandusky allegations in 2002 (which makes me wonder if it was really 2001). We know Raykovitz wasn’t stopping Sandusky from coming on the PSU campus, as true conspirators in a cover up would have appreciated. So, who was rewarding him for letting Sandusky run amuck? Someone on that campus wanted him there, IMO.

I don’t understand your question. How do you pull WHAT off? When we talked about this earlier (or was that somewhere else I remember?), I (or my posting partner, if at another site) asked WHY give Raykovitz honorary membership? Because it was just a goodie that could be tossed his way?
That’s a gem you found. Kind of makes me think about how crazy things must be at Penn State right now. Only those who know, would know. Freeh investigating, Joyner doing Curley’s old job, et al. Old Main.

I believe the original salacious comment of Sandusky being a pimp was probably spot on, and the names in the black book are untouchables. I am so jaded by this, and then I go to Kyron’s page and wonder if we are being naive. My psyche is evolving.

I believe that EVERYONE (that knew) at Penn State knew the event was 2001. Paterno wouldn’t establish a date in his testimony and McQ originally wasn’t sure. McQ was not exactly a cooperative witness, since investigators found him through the blogs and then by process of elimination. It wasn’t until his GJ testimony that he “married” 2002. And he married 2002 intentionally because it was wrong. (There is no spring break (his benchmark) in February, anywhere.)
The athletics department was sitting on the information, Baldwin knew, Amendola knew, they all knew, knew, knew. It was Schultz and Curley’s ticket out of not reporting. The revelation in court would weaken the case and without a case, how could they perjure.
This case was investigated because of the interium AG between Kelly and Corbett, when Corbett left the office to become the governor and before he appointed Kelly. It was probably never supposed to happen. Wonder what else they are sitting on?
All MOO.
IDK where to go about Raykovitz. Do we think he was in the CIA during those “undocumented” on bio years between graduating Rutgers and entering PSU’s Master’s program?
I believe his classmate, Paul, might have talked more than he wished he had to a Bucks county reporter. And got famous, unintentionally, regretted it, and got it pulled plus a correction published. I know more about him, but nothing at all suspect.
@erose: someone who is a “posting partner” of mine of WS, shares my registration, posted all that stuff I thought was here over there. You didn’t forget anything. Reading more about Skull and Bones, looks like it has evolved into one more way to support football at PSU–in large part.
So, I’m thinking maybe some folks “in the know” in 2001, and likely before that, started getting nervous about Jer. Thought it a good idea to provide an official/formal link between PSU and TSM. Ergo, honorary S&B membership for Raykovitz.
What do we need to know?
Blink: you got military service????
For at least the two years I checked, Stanley and Jean Raykovitz made donations to The Second Mile. (Here’s link to 2010; IIRC, the other year I checked and found was 2009) Who are they?
http://www.thesecondmile.org/pdf/AnnualReport2010.pdf
I can’t find that name around State College PA. So, maybe they’re relatives of Jack’s. The ones who live in Yardley PA. And attend (current up to April, 2011; IDK after that) St. Ignatius of Antioch Church.
If so, their church’s officials were among those investigated by one of the grand juries convened by Lynne Abraham, while Philly DA.
It’d be really interesting if Jack would share some of his childhood memories. Could be he knew of some misbehavior within the Catholic Church. Could be that even led him to get in psychology/school psychology.
I have a suspicion there is a name variation a la Senduski v Sandusky.
B
Do you know roughly the time frame? aka, is there more?
beejay says:
May 12, 2012 at 10:46 am
@erose: A timeframe for the unaccounted yrs after Rutgers? Didn’t he graduate there in 1974? Then entered PSU’s Graduate Psych program in 1977? I think. I was kidding about CIA! Really, didn’t a lot of us work non-professional jobs in betwn college & grad schl? Just trying to find out which “gaps” Blink needs filled in. (I’d like to know why Jack chose Psych. There’s always a reason why we choose a career. I had a specific reason.)
OK, Blink, that rings a bell. Didn’t we discuss that WAY back? “name variation a la Senduski v Sandusky”
Any hint as to what we’re going for?
Dont recall the discussion specifically, but my research nets it out, and I believe he refers to it in Touched (sigh) but I have the actual census report. Not a lot of contact with a very large family
B
OK, whoever put this up on wikipedia has this to say about that:
“…Arthur Sandusky, whose parents, Edward and Josephine Sendecki, had immigrated from Poland to East Vandergrift, Pennsylvania…”
Jer’s “father”, if we’ve settled on his official father being his bio dad.
BTW, Art’s newspaper obit mentioned how much he loved the Second Mile kids. So, I guess they spent time there.
And, for anyone (Rose?) who wants to know who Jer says taught him to swim, he’s says Art did. I think you’ll find a slap-in-the face of an anecdote betwn pgs 233 and 244 in Touched. A swimming event with Jer and Art, shortly before Art’s death. Art weak; Jer supporting him in the water. Oops, Jer let him go under. Jer’s comment to the effect that was payback for when his dad did the same to him in his childhood. Whoa. Hate to psychologize, but, just a little angry? and hurt/scared/disappointed when dad failed to “support” him?
Generational.
Back on point, what sort of info do we want about a Sendecki ancestor?
@Beejay, I was wondering if there was more info that you referenced on WS.
@erose: More info about Skull and Bones at PSU and Raykovitz? No. There’s probably more available about S&B in general, though. William Schreyer was a member, for one. I mean, if you wanted a little black book…although we’ve got lots of choices for that. And they mostly overlap. Did I put this link up earlier? There are lots of photos.
Where PSU’s Skull and Bones awarded the Schreyers their SABRE award in 2007. Everybody who’s anybody in S&B/PSU is there: Spanier, Curley, the Schreyers and daughter DrueAnn, Dave Joyner(in his capacity as PSU Trustee), and a special invitee Bob Poole.

And EROSE!! VIP for you. Last time I was away for awhile, when I got back I read a post where you screamed out my name. And I felt so bad. Not that I’m essential, but I just felt bad. SO, tomorrow, Mother’s Day, I’m going away for awhile. (Travel, work projects with DH, etc). My time for Sandusky research and posting will be limited. And, DH often takes away/shares my laptop!
So, Erose, I’ll miss you. Carry on the good work you and all. Oh, BTW, I’m meeting up with someone who’s bringing me the Touched book. I’ve only read portions on amazon. If anything stunning is in there, I’ll eventually post it here. Oh, and I have catholic inlaws up in Bucks county that I hope to wring some info out of! Will post that eventually too.
Happy Mother’s Day. Safe travels, Beejay and all.

FBI Director Louis Freeh
The untouchable.
snip>
Here’s a theory: Louis Freeh has photographs of key Republican congressmen in compromising positions with young boys. What else could explain his J. Edgar Hoover-esque immunity on Capitol Hill?
http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/assessment/2000/09/fbi_director_louis_freeh.html
I remember Santorum gave Sandusky an award, so I found this interesting considering Freeh is also a member of the same church. Of course 3,400 is a lot of parishioners, but if he is Opus Dei “cooperator” (is that a new way to deny bring Opus Dei?) as the article states, and shows up at the Reston Study Center, that would be good to know. Sorry I had to bring up the whole Opus Dei thing again, but now as it relates to Freeh and his brother. There are clubs within clubs within clubs and sanctums within sanctums within sanctums…
Rick Santorum’s Virginia Church and Opus Dei
The church claims 3,400 parishioners. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and his wife attend Mass there; at one time or another, so have Redskins quarterbacks, the head of the National Rifle Association, and former FBI director Louis Freeh. (Members of the Branch Davidians once blocked the parking lot with a protest targeted at Freeh after the Waco raid, someone familiar with St. Catherine told me.) The church also suffered brief notoriety eleven years ago when FBI agent Robert Hanssen—then a member of the congregation—was arrested for selling intelligence to Russia.

Reston Study Center and its programs are inspired by the spirit of seeking God and serving Him through one’s work. This is the core message of Opus Dei, a personal prelature of the Catholic Church. The spiritual activities of the center are entrusted to Opus Dei, and the resident chaplain is an Opus Dei priest.

JSerra Catholic High School has hired Dr. John Freeh—brother of former FBI Director Louis Freeh— as its new principal.
Dr. Freeh, who holds a doctorate in English Renaissance Literature from Oxford University, will take the helm of the 1,050-student school in July.
Freeh’s resume includes teaching and leadership roles at Gonzaga, Hillsdale College in Michigan and Wyoming Catholic College; he was Director of University Ministry at Gonzaga and directed Hillsdale’s RCIA program for students preparing to enter the Catholic Church. Freeh also holds master’s degrees from Georgetown in English and political philosophy and Northwestern in journalism. Early in his career, Freeh taught elementary school in Washington D.C., and worked as a journalist at the Cleveland Plain Dealer and the Associated Press. He has taught English literature at Oxford University and Franciscan University of Steubenville.
Freeh’s wife, Helen, an English teacher and professor, also holds a doctorate in English, from Baylor University. The couple are expecting their first child in May. The Freehs enjoy camping, hiking and racquetball. His first visit to JSerra in January was part of a 4,100-mile road trip during which the Freehs camped at several national parks.

BTW, This recently happened where John Freeh got his new job:
JSerra Catholic High School administrators “acted in an appropriate and prompt manner” in its handling of former faculty member Ricardo Aldana who was arrested December 15 on seven counts of lewd acts with a minor and later fired.
In an April 4 letter, school Chairman Timothy R. Busch said he was pleased with the external committee’s findings. The letter said JSerra conducted an appropriate background check prior to hiring Aldana. The committee also looked into whether school officials should have reported Aldana after a call from a student’s mother.
“The committee found the administration did not have reason to suspect there had been child abuse as statutorily defined; therefore, the school had no duty to report this matter to Child Protection Services,” the letter says.

erose, i don’t fault you for bringing up Opus Dei again because it gives us a model of exclusivity and a sense of how a number of people operate in a constant state of complicity/complacency/conspiracy, if you know what I’m trying to say.
I’m angry that JSerra didn’t report the Mother’s complaint to Law Enforement authorities so they could do their own investigation. LE knows so much more about what constitutes ‘abuse’ and what charges could come forth.
oooh, I’m seething now. “Love Where You Learn.” Really?
@erose
Freeh could’ve given Spanier a staff job working for him on the Council, or thrown a contract his way (as to the latter, not how I read this), but nothing more.
“security” contracts farmed out by multiple govt agencies from DOD thru almost all Cabinet agencies have been a dime a dozen here to myriad “connected” start-ups, supporting the Northern VA economy since Bush 9/11.
@Word Girl – Love your three C’s; complicity, complacency, conspiracy, and know what you are trying to say. I was upset with JSerra as well, and find it interesting that Freeh and Freeh have lives that seem at a parallel. What are the odds. No, seriously, what are the odds?
@Rose – Thanks for the insight into the VA government contracting. Did we ever learn who specifically Spainer was working for, or was he just low bidder on a contract? I guess he was prequalified by virtue of his education?
Wow, Rose, you packed a lot into that last post about Cabinet agency farmed out contracts. I hadn’t thought about the support to the VA economy.
erose. Freeh and Freeh; very interesting lives. I can understand them in a rather visceral way since some of my family members have followed similar paths.
Still seething about JSerra.
@erose. I don’t think Spanier bid on anything but was just placed as a favor into a slot & thus the payroll
of a govt contractor via good ol boy contacts.
.
my neighborhood survives by private contracts either while young in a corp or post retirement for individual Ks.
The real gov’t revolving door is not to lobbyist shops or law firms since 2002 but to govt contractor private corps seeking ipos down the road. The fruit of govt contracting out to reduce the size of govt.
For Spanier, so many opportunities…
Example: a very fine person’s bio, a good man, is an example only of 3 corps
greatly enriched and grown by taxpayer $, enriching the private sector, by 9/11:
SRA, Veridian, TASC: http://dbb.defense.gov/board_members/david_langstaff.shtml
Spanier could have been dropped in a slot at myriad corps. Freeh or Santorum,
had not only kids’ private school parents, they had Exec Republican, and even more importantly,
Hill patrons at hand with govt contracts galore.
another Michael Moore movie in the waiting
To throw out one more local anecdote (and J Freeh seems remarkable & delightful), Hillsdale Coll as noted by erose above is more rightwing & Republican imo than Catholic. Here’s a friend’s time there: https://www.hillsdale.edu/news/imprimis/archive/issue.asp?year=1984&month=02
& imo the place hasn’t changed. Carl was a leading & wise Protestant evangelical, but connected to such as the church of Kemp & Quayle and Colson’s outfit, etc. His 5 vol work of theology was not Catholic, but politically most likely he was in a Freeh corner and the secretive Fellowship Foundation of Voe would’ve claimed him
if they could. Imo Hillsdale had Republicsn
right of center donors (think Amway family types) & “guest artists.”
Well, another andcdote. Much has been written about the Opus Dei VA church.
But, Birds of a feather flock together, not only
opus dei catholic but also very conservative birds did that at 4th Presby Bethesda & Nat’l Presby
(latter one epicenter of Fellowship Fdtn & military DOD rightwing leadership
types–also good SALT negotiators. I don’t think anything can be put to Opus Dei church that doesn’t happen in other denominations. Although I’m not eager to see a lot of influence in the Supremes.
this Catholic group also centers on a certain Catholic private school in Potomac Md.
When my son was in a VA Catholic high school, I had occasion to go several times to the
home of a very lovely Irish couple, Catholic to the right of the Pope in all respects, in an admirable way.
Their home: http://m.sawbuck.com/property/DC_Metro/20175_Leesburg,VA/8566055-41113-Canongate-Drive#
Santorums lived up the street from them in to me the best subdivision of Leesburg before they got even
richer with his “retirement” & uploaded to Great Falls. The wife I knew from school had a disabled child like Santorums & founded a Foundation for such. Told me once a neighbor offered to commute her HS son to that Potomac Catholic prep school with the neighbor’s son. (guess whose?) I have never met a more spiritually and socially conservative, doctrinnaire family, yet lovely, and imo
these Opus Dei families (including politicians) can be found to live near each other in No Va, while schooling in Md, for mutual support like Orthodox Jewish families who walk on the Sabbath.
I don ‘t think Catholic institutions & beliefs play a role in this case, except maybe the denial habit. I think it’s social class and wealth wannabes or ares, social climbing, political connections & motivations, and pervs or their associates.
And a football program that existed for its own glory
well, beejay, I’ve felt like screaming yr name during your travels, and your priorities,

I will be disappearing June 4ff for a couple weeks for more a prosaic reason than travel or the joys of a DH.

quantity, & creativity.

Recently, I learned that my high school friend, Clark Schneck, lost his grandson, Bradly. At age 19, as a Penn State Campus student, Bradly was a body builder and was able to receive steroids on the campus with ease. Bradly committed suicide.

The question it leads to is, what was Sandusky’s involvement with narcotics, specifically steroids, and does that shine some light on why he had such preferred status on campus? It hasn’t been a secret in Pennsylvania athletics that steroids are, uh, a well known part of the PSU football program, but nobody has had the balls to track that story down before.

I dont think this story is the story yet erose, I think it is ongoing.

Jerry Sandusky’s attorney is asking the court to dismiss some of the counts the former Penn State coach is facing, arguing the state hasn’t provided specific enough information to allow the defense to prepare for the trial.

@Blink I spent a good bit of time yesterday looking for tie-ins between these folks like the Amway founders’
family systems which now includes Prince, who are mega donors to Hillsdale (Freeh bro’s job) & Calvin College in Mich, that is tie ins to N Fox Island activities in Bro Paul’s club (the island near Charlevoix, the Ramsey home) and found none.
But No one goes to out of the way rural Hillsdale to work, out of all 50 states, unless they are on a certain political/social circuit — then imp it’s just added income someone like DeVos has funded for a friend of a friend for political or religious connections
imo political and social interests meaningful to L Freeh & Ridge funded them vis a vis this Sandusky scandal
just like Freeh’s fine bro was funded for college work. Sandusky’s coverup ties imo into the Sandusky
cleanup at PS. Out of how many attorney or lobbyist shops
could PS Board have hired rather than Freeh’s newish firm?
I subscribe to the pimping out to rich donors theory as being the only adequate explanation for the high level political figures & mega expenditures in the PS cleanup.
I agree with that, always have, I am confident one of us is going to find that hanging thread and yank it.
B
personally, erose, I don’t think the drug story is steroids but ties back
into the Gricar investigation maybe.
Okay, I’ll get off that track, and look for the hanging thread.
