Convicted Pedophile Jerry Sandusky’s Sniveling Mercy Plea Ignored- Sentenced To 60 Years

Bellefonte, PA-  After a pitiful denial of the charges against him which contained more vitriol geared at his victims and their families was released late yesterday,  Judge Cleland made sure Sandusky knew he was unmoved.

Judge John Cleland issued the sentence Tuesday, three months after a jury convicted Sandusky on 45 counts of child sexual abuse.   Sandusky must do 30 years before he is eligible for parole in Centre County, PA.

Sandusky , if his appeal for a new trial is unsuccessful, will be 100 years old before he would ever appear before a parole board.

  2. He positioned himself to be a mentor to these people, ” gaining trust”. He made no sacrifices to exploit these victims at any level of this own person gain…and although i do not wantot to come across as judgemental in anyway….but any way you measure that practice is just sick at every level.. you just do not do that as a mentor. YOU Should never expect anything in return from an individual you mentor let alone a minor being an adult. YOU KNEW BETTER, just stop making excuses, the reason i think you deny it or are in denial over this is the fact you know “IN YOUR HEART, AND MIND” you are disgusted in your own acts and cannot fathom why you would do this. It is becasue you cannot help someone selflessly, you have that natural burden in your heart to come to expect something, because in your mind you know nothing is free. It isnt, it came at a price. TIME TO PAY THE PIPER! SANDUSKY you are such a sick individual, on so many levels….you claim based on the thousands you help that the percetange of victims you have are small…?? ‘ you didnt have contact with most of the people you helped even” what does that justify by saying that?? ONE VICTIM IS ONE TOO MANY, EXPLOITING ONE PERSON FOR YOUR OWN PERSON GAIN IS WRONG. by that you are guilty! you are guilty of so many things, glad you got convicted and will serve at least 30 out of 60…these innocent people were prisoners of your attrocities for WAY TO LONG, physically emotionally and mentally. GOOD BYE,, wish i could say GOOD NIGHT! they should give you the needle! you took the life and well being from SO MANY…Remember it only takes ONE! one is too many!

Thanks Beejay, I just have a very hard time understanding how any person could go so far as JS. I sit here and cry when I try to understand how.

  4. beejay says:

@Steve: Me, too. It’s excruciatingly sad. The thing is, the longer it went on, the more he got away with, the more emboldened he became. He KNEW that people in a position to call him on it KNEW and did nothing. That’s the real tragedy. Some of those later victims didn’t have to be victimized. Also, I look back at his picture as a 9 yr old mascot to one of his dad’s sports teams and I think, how did this happen? He, too, was once an innocent child. And no, I don’t believe we yet have any scientific evidence that accounts for an inborn/genetic determining factor.

Early intervention, folks. Early. We go the wrong direction in giving a sex offender an ARD. That’s the point at which it MIGHT–MIGHT–be possible to intervene. Behavioral sciences and the legal system have got to get together on this tragedy.

And one more thing, lol, besides Dottie whose number I think I have now, Blink–although I was on the fence till she spoke for herself. Everytime I hear about somebody “mentoring” a kid, well I’m just all over it. I know what they wrote their PhD thesis on and where their adult child lives now and if I find anything to suggest that “mentoring” relationship was improper, I ride my high horse into the sheriff’s office pronto!

I’m speaking in particular to that fella over in Johnstown, so if you’re reading here, you might want perk up. Or can I say that?

  7. A Texas Grandfather says:

There is a large group of people who have been enabling JS for forty years at least. These people need to be investigated. There are people IMO who are outside PSU that have involvement.

It is hard for some to come to the realization that someone they know and work with can do the acts against children associated with pedophillia. We as a society need to raise our awareness level regarding adults and their behavior around children that are not their own.

We have a large cadre of sports figures that are given a lot of attention believing that they are mentoring young people. Most are doing the job as good citizens, but all should be carefully watched by parents and the community at large.

The article in the New Yorker very well explains how someone in authority can deny something is happening even when there are several accusers. Some children will be very decietful if they know they can hurt someone with a made up story. Others have a better truth meter and do not make up stories. As adults and parents, each of us need to be careful with out children and grandchildren.

Mystery solved as to who was the carrier pidgeon of the Sandusky promo tape. Still doesn’t tell us who placed it with the ComRadio for broadcast. This is not a game, media folks. Please; this is getting tiresome.

“Here was a man who had known the Sandusky’s for 23 years, attended church with the family and volunteered with The Second Mile, the charity founded by Sandusky that, according to a jury of his peers, amounted to a factory line of vulnerable children ready to be groomed for child sexual deviance. The man’s son and the boy’s friends were once guests at the Sandusky house. Tackling dummies were set up in the backyard, and the former defensive chieftain for Joe Paterno would instruct proper technique to the boys, then freshmen in high school.”

I hate so much that this POS positioned himself as the VICTIM in his sentencing statement. He is a delusional narcissist. Here’s hoping he is locked up and forgotten about.

  12. Rose says:

imo JS’s Court sentencing letter is as psychotic as those 2 letters to the young Vic. McGettigan nailed it. imo he is unaware of his separate acts of molestarion. imo what Jerry himself experiences is his “persona of parenting” with these & other boys, and the molestations are part of the big ball of parenting wax and cannot be separated out in hus mind either to acknowledge or atone for. completely ego syntonic. The only behavior he seems to remember separately is water ballon fighter. It is possible sometime in high school he had a severe tbi he never moved beyond. Not excusing, just seeking to explain how he got stuck in high school mentally with what seems like a severe executive dysfunction with exceptionally concrete thinking & an inability to shift his thinkng. Anyway molestation seems such an undifferentiated part of his parenting persona, I suggest he integrated it from his own pardnting process (Art). And I think there must have been a tbi way back.

  13. Twink – I believe they are honing in on a suspect. I am in labs, another case and traveling for both through Tuesday. Yes, this is a child predator.

  14. Word Girl says:

    Rose,
I agree that a Traumatic Brain Injury (tbi) is a definite possibility as we see Sandusky’s Executive functioning is off–perhaps a blow to the frontal lobe–sounds disgusting with his name attached.

Seriously, the cognitive control is just not there for the guy. We see it in his subject shifts, his conclusions, both in his writing and in his speech. His books flounder, although less so due to some editing.

Lesions can form from hits on the head and, in the orbitalcortex, they can disinhibit social functioning, appropriateness, impulsivity, anger, promiscuity, and so forth.

His parenting model seems very much based on his fathers.
There is no excuse for his behavior and for all the damage he did.
He knew but he didn’t want to or couldn’t stop himself.
I believe he could stop because the boys who didn’t show weakness, he passed over, and looked for other prey.

While many abused children don’t grow up to abuse others, Jerry may have had an emotionally stunting experience that caused him to view life in this skewed and “untethered from reality” manner.

  15. Steve says:

The comments describing JS are similar to the comments made about two Penn State professors whom testified on behalf of Anthony Lasaga.

In response to the professors’ courtroom comments, the prosecutor David Strollo said after the trial, “In all my years as a prosecutor, I have never heard people deliver comments so disconnected with reality.”

“[Lasaga] is in his most productive years,” argued Pennsylvania State University Professor Hubert Barnes, former head of the prestigious Geochemistry Society. “When you penalize Tony for his indiscretions, you also penalize society.”

“I don’t believe Tony had any sexual interest in boys,” said Princeton Professor Hiroshi Ohmoto, suggesting that the abuse was merely a misunderstanding.
    http://www.dailyprincetonian.com/2002/02/27/4489/

Both Barnes and Ohmoto are still at PSU.

  18. Rose says:

@Word Girl. Agreed. It’s very much in his awareness he picked only certain sorts of boys from certain sorts of homes to glob his parenting persona (which includes molestation as part of manly training) onto. I bet his dad and one or two of his town’s leading patrons condescendingly singled out the same sort, publically legitimating their covert interest with “charity.”

  19. Word Girl says:

Thanks, Steve. I didn’t know that two PSU professors had testified for Lasaga. Yes, they are still on PSU faculty in the Sciences.

“Indiscretions” is what Hubert Barnes called more than 150,000 images of child pornography and films of Lasaga (Princeton and Yale) and his child victim during molestation. The same child he molested/raped for 6 years when the child was between 7 and thirteen years old.

Lasaga’s films were shot on the Yale campus at Saybrook College where he was a master and claimed to be *mentoring* his boy victim.

In this same vein of academic blindness and dysfunction, the highly regarded Naomi Wolf ran into the same brick wall when she was a senior in college and the 54-year-old Harold Bloom molested her and, again, trying to address the issue, 20 years later.

Thanks for the lead, erose. I was going to add it starts on page 20 of that pdf. and duh! you already said it!

Blinksters, this is the trial document and very interesting to read. I was taken aback when McGettigan crossed Witness Megan Rash. As she was speaking about her brother and the trouble he got into with, and his potential resentment of, a victim of JS, he switched gears suddenly and brought up the witnesses Iraq service. She had a PTSD- ort of response, mentioned her brain injury, and he finished the cross examination.

Phil Mohr of State College, microbiologist, neighbor, church member, church organist/pianist, parent, admits seeing JS with boys at church.
He was close to JS and his family and socialized with them.

I am wondering if Mohr supports his colleagues who testified in favor of Andrew Lasaga in his child molestation trial?

Were these people just too close to see it? In major denial that abuse could be happening?

Jerry and Dottie were a match made in Heaven..or Hell..depending on your take on their lives. Both are guilty as sin..neither has a remorseful bone in their body..and both are predators of sorts..and at the very least sociopaths who covered for each other. Dottie’s no tell no stance is akin to Penn State’s..it was a crime then, it was a cover up then..both are crimes and cover ups now.

I find them both repugnant beyond words..as I do all the Penn State employees who knew what was going on and did not follow up..rather they reported it or not. That all smacks of well they thought they told..why didn’t you ask questions when he was still on campus..why didn’t you ask what was going on with the investigation. etc..and we all know the reason..Paterno would have been afraid of losing his job..just like the others in power were afraid of losing donors and money. I hope they all learned a lesson..but unless the others that knew and did nothing are not brought to trial this proves that pedos get jail time and their enablers go free.

And, one more time around again with Dorothy. How dare you even look at yourself in the mirror, Dorothy Sadusky?

  25. Word Girl says:

Matt Sandusky’s lawyers respond to D and J Sadusky letters:

Matt Sandusky’s lawyers released this statement:
“Matt is extremely disappointed that Dottie and the Sanduskys have decided to smear his character in attempt to deflect attention from Jerry Sandusky’s heinous crimes. Matt has shown tremendous courage and strength.

“Rather than supporting her son when he made the gut-wrenching and courageous decision to come forward and tell the truth about the abuse he suffered at the hands of Jerry Sandusky, Dottie Sandusky has chosen to continue Jerry’s strategy of blaming and attacking the victims, thereby perpetuating the abuse.”

Justine Andronici and Andrew Shubin, along with the law firm of Ross Feller Casey, LLP, represent Matt Sandusky and other victims of Jerry Sandusky’s sexual abuse.

Jerry Sandusky’s letter, drafted Sept. 27, largely outlines the statement he would make publicly in court, proclaiming his innocence, denigrating “the system,” and detailing how he is trying to cope with his conviction.
His only reference to Matt Sandusky comes at the end, when he states that his plans to testify were changed “when he (Matt) switched sides. I was supposed to be David but failed to pick up the slingshot. Goliath won, and I must deal with the outcome.”

@WG, 411 search has Leann M & Philip W Mohr at 1520 Yardal Rd State College.

  32. erose says:

From what I can tell, Mohr and Sandusky lived as neighbors on Yardal (until Sandusky moved in ’84) and Harmon also lived as his neighbor during that time frame. Mohr’s testimony (as previously linked) states he and Sandusky have been friends for 35 years, that would be ’77-’12, same as Harmon.

    snips>
In 1977, Harmon moved onto Norle Street, a small tight-knit community where residents described neighborhood kids playing together, including Sandusky’s and Harmon’s children. They rode bikes together in a cul-de-sac on Yardal Road. Sandusky also hosted kickball games in his backyard. Several neighbors said they were shocked by the allegations and described the Sanduskys as a loving family and great neighbors.

Colleagues said the two families attended the same church, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in State College.

Harmon had been director of Penn State police since 1990. In April 1998, he assumed more responsibilities when David Stormer, an assistant vice president who oversaw the department, retired and his position wasn’t filled. Stormer couldn’t be reached for comment. Harmon’s supervisor at that time was Schultz.

The Sanduskys moved from Norle Street in 1984 to the home they built on Grandview Road, less than two miles away.

Lizzy, yes I should have found a way around not posting that section. I wasn’t sure that was a victim’s name, but assumed so. I think I must have just been stunned reading McGettigan’s questioning.

I’ve had a question for you about mood on campus with the sentencing run-up and finish. Do people feel like it’s over now? Is their still a wave of proactive programming in response to Freeh, or not, with the intent to prevent abuse at PSU?

I had another question for you but I don’t recall. It was nothing to do with Harold Bloom; that I remember!

Those large (large!) yards are awesome and all the trees and hills bucolic. Nothing beats the ocean and mountains for me, but I do see the reason folks choose to rest their heads there.

    @ Twinkletoes

Off Topic — I wish there was a place we could post about the Jessica Ridgeway story. And Blink, I do not mean to imply that you should take on more work. I know your plate is full and overflowing.

There’s a predator on the loose in the Arvada, Colorado area. Last month, Jessica Ridgeway’s elementary school released an alert about stranger danger. The statement (which was distributed at several area schools) informed parents of two separate incidents of attempted child abduction in September and warned children to be alert. The children involved in these two incidents provided very similar descriptions of the predator and his vehicle. Within 30 days of that warning, Jessica went missing.

Sorry to post here about this, but after the discovery of Jessica’s body, I feel very afraid for the safety of the children in that area.

  38. Word Girl says:

Erose, are you saying that those real names can be named in the media and it would only be up to the publishers to determine redaction?
Do you think Cleland was counting on all participants to choose their own moral compass?

  39. erose says:

Penn State trustees will hold a special meeting Oct. 26 to consider giving one of the board’s subcommittees the power to approve settlements reached with Jerry Sandusky victims.

University leaders have said they want to reach out of court settlements with victims of the former Penn State football coach, who was convicted and sentenced to 30 to 60 years for sexually molesting boys. Penn State hired the law firm of Ken Feinberg, who handled the Sept. 11 victims’ fund, to help settle victims’ suits this year.

@WG, I don’t know what else to think about the names. This was argued in court pretrial. Some media sources have stated they will not print the names. Hopefully the men aren’t re-victimized, but if there are civil trials, and not out of court settlements, I think it could get ugly for them. Incentive for them to take the money offered and run along, IDK. The judge had a point in his ruling, however the privacy of the victims, and the expectation of other victims (in any case) speaking out, should be considered. These were boys, but are now men. If these were still boys, I would expect their names to not be in the public record.

  42. Word Girl says:

Reading the comment section on the Oct. 26 meeting helps me understand how much more education about child abuse needs to happen.

The loss the victims have incurred is tremendous. No amount of money can buy an eraser big enough to remove that loss.
I hope that the money pays for vigorous counseling, supportive group therapy, medical care, and pays for living expenses for those who may not be able to successfully work again.

The money must insure that the victims are taken care of for the rest of their lives because their lives were ripped away from them by a diabolical, selfish, obsessed pedophile, Jerry Sandusky.

He did these acts while he was employed at Penn State University, while he was working out of state for the university, and while he forged a union between Penn State and The Second Mile charity where he obtained his victims.

There must be adequate compensation in order for justice to prevail.
