Westminster, CO- Standley Lake High School dropout Austin Sigg told his Mother  he kidnapped 10 year old Witt Elementary student Jessica Ridgeway the morning of Friday October 5.

Mindy Ashbaugh Sigg , divorced from Robert J Sigg, the father of the couple’s two teenage boys, called Westminster Police Tuesday evening to alert them of her son’s admission.

Upon arrival,  Austin Reed Sigg confessed the unthinkable.   Sigg told investigators he strangled the little girl after he snatched her into his Jeep, hogtied her in the back, and they could find the remainder of the child in a cooler located in a crawl space at his 102nd St address.   By 7:45PM Sigg was arrested for the kidnapping and murder of Jessica Ridgeway, and the attempted kidnapping and attempted murder of a female jogger on May 28, 2012  a few hundred yards from his home.

The self-professed death mobile was impounded and inventoried at an undisclosed evidence bay for processing .

Although Sigg did not graduate High School,  he earned his GED and was attending the alternative school Warren Tech last March where he won second place in the forensics category- a CSI award.  Sigg was currently enrolled at Arapohoe Community College with the intention of fulfilling the prerequisite courses necessary to join the mortuary science program- which requires a background check for acceptance.

The irony of an award matching the letters on the backs of jackets combing through the Sigg home was not lost on the seasoned crime scene technicians  fastidiously processing  this newest crime scene in the case.

It was also not lost on any of the law enforcement personnel present that field testing did not detect results synonymous with an environment used to dismember a human.  They are confident that had to have occurred somewhere else.

They are missing a crime scene.  Are they missing an accomplice?

Spawn or Pawn?

Austin Reed Sigg was born to Mindy and Rob Sigg on January 17, 1995 .   This was the second marriage for Rob and two small children later, the couple would divorce before Austin’s fifth birthday.

Mindy Sigg, a tech for a Lasik provider in Westminster, had full custody of the boys while Rob continued his long and varied criminal history consisting of DUI’s, drugs,  and finally landing in Federal prison for an identity theft and mortgage scheme in 2006.   Robert is the president of Performance One Media- the company is named in current civil litigations, and he owns a go Kart racing team.

Extended family members speaking on the condition of anonymity to BOC, confirmed this morning that the family had serious concerns about Austin’s “direction” during his junior year at Standley Lake.

…” We heard that he was in counseling over issues related to the family breaking up, you know, Rob was in and out of prison sort of thing,  but while Mindy kept telling everyone she was told this kind of phase of wearing black,  being holed up in his room playing video games, and charging porn movies on her accounts was normal for a teenage boy,  we had discussed someone taking the lead and mentioning we thought Austin did not seem “normal” for as long as I could remember.  But then he had a girlfriend for a while, and he seemed to sort of snap out of it.  The last thing I remember was that they had gone to some formal and the next thing we knew he was pulled out of school and in intensive therapy for a pornographic addiction, so I don’t know if that is what broke the kids up, or what.   Mindy had it rough with the two boys on her own. She put herself through that school in Denver on her own dime while Rob got locked up and about the same time.  I think the kids were probably very much on their own and by the time Austin started having really big issues, it may have been too late obviously.

We still don’t know how he comes out of prison and paid of over $140K in fines while Mindy was forced to file bankruptcy this summer we found out later.  I tried to look up Rob’s stuff on the internet, but a bunch of the files from his criminal case are still sealed.”

A review of Ms. Sigg’s bankruptcy petition may indicate that Austin either had or was facing some juvenile charges.   It was filed 2 days after the Memorial Day attack on a young female jogger Sigg is also charged with, and a few weeks prior to an elaborate luxury vacation the family took to the US Virgin Islands.  As reported by kdvr, Investigators with WPD and the FBI may not have been aware of their suspect’s international travels and are now in contact with authorities abroad.

Emerging Profile

As the news of Austin Sigg’s arrest flashed through the town of 18,000 and then the Nation,  those that knew him or claimed to know him well, hit the web.  Below are the highlights that portray a picture of an adolescent exhibiting signs worthy of

Sarah Moravec, a Standley Lake High School senior, says she picked on 17-year-old Austin Sigg nearly every day for having a high-pitched voice.

“I picked on him a lot,” Moravec said. “Austin was just different. So, why not pick on the different people? But then again, I was bullied whenever I was younger.”

The Standley Lake senior said Sigg often wore dark clothing and hung out at the back of the cafeteria with others.

“We didn’t even think he was somebody our age,” Moravec said. “We thought it was some 45-year-old pervert or something like that.”

Danni”- a girl who dated Sigg twice and spent time with him at Warehouse 180, a meeting place for Christian teens.

“He was sweet.  I knew he had like a weapons collections, swords and knives,  but it was just like his man cave.

Christy Mueller- walking on the trail around Standley Lake recently, encountered Sigg and a few friends.  She felt immediately as if he was up to something.

…” I just felt as soon as I saw him he was up to something,  if he (her dog) was not here I am afraid of what might have happened…”

Meaghan Barker was Sigg’s lab partner at Warren Tech-

…” We learned about DNA analysis, finger printing, hair follicles and decomposition…”

Someone claiming to love Austin Sigg and a fellow victim of bullying that Sigg helped,  started a face book page in support of Sigg late yesterday and said that he may have confessed because he knew whoever else was involved could not be caught.   He went on to ask forgiveness for his friend and called the act satanic.

Although an avid gamer under the tag dohastvath,  there are no current online stats exist past June 2010.  Sigg’s voice can be heard here,  he plays Yoshi  in this YouTube series with two other boys where he repeatedly expresses he is not gay and references a disturbing knowledge of bondage and graphic sexual devices and situations.  The series was uploaded in 2009.

It is clear that Austin Sigg has a slight speech impediment, and indeed, an efeminite vocal tone at 14.

Yesterday during the press conference Jefferson County Prosecutor Scott Storey announced that further charges were possible in connection with Ridgeway’s murder and the investigation is ongoing.

The autopsy of Jessica Ridgeway’s remains located on October 10th are complete pending forensic and toxicology testing, however,  her cause of death , if known, has not been released publicly.

This morning, it was decided that Sigg will be charged as an adult.  His next court appearance is scheduled for October 30th.   Austin Sigg’s DNA was recovered from Jessica Ridgeway’s backpack.

Did I read this correctly….killer wanted to be a mortician? It makes sense. He had dark thoughts and perhaps this line of vocation would satisfy a festering urge. I bet he never knew he was capable of what he did until it happened.

Is anyone aware if he’s tried to dismember animals? I’m so curious about his fetish to dismember? There had to be signs or the beginnings of.

Another Damien Echols. Hope we’re enlightened on killer’s possible mental dysfunctions, treatments, possible diagnosis, etc.

This quote was in heavy script and not signed by B, so not I am not totally confident who it belonged to.
My question is from an investigatory standpoint, Did LE have the hairs raised up on the back of thier necks with this search? How was it missed that this was the person they wanted? I think of in terms of other missing children, where cases went cold and stalled. Notably Kyron, Isabel, baby Lisa, Elizabeth and Lyric, Bless thier hearts. A big Thank You Blink for your dedication to these children.

He was back on the web heavy in 2012, but just a few posts.

They asked all males in the neighborhood to give a DNA sample and searched all homes.

As a minor however, he would need permission from a parent to do so, and technically they would need permission even to ask him- so I am wondering just how smart this kid really is. Gives me pause.

Could it be that Sigg DID have his mother’s permission to donate DNA? What if there was already some suspicion in her mind and he provided a sample to assuage her? Maybe the donation of DNA wasn’t as voluntary as we think it was.

For it to be admissable from that swab, it would have to have been granted. May not matter with a confession, but let’s be honest- I have little faith in juries of high profile cases and less in defense attorneys trying them. Jaded party of one, my table is ready :)

  8. A Texas Grandfather says:

Why did Austin abduct and kill little Jessica? Why did he think it necessary to dismember the body?

I believe that he picked on the ten year old because he had failed in his attempt with the 22 year old jogger. He was reletivly short for his age and his weight was maybe 150 lbs. The 22 year old probably was at least as tall as he so he lost the leverage of height and she was able to get away. IMO he was not going to make that mistake again.

Why was he short? Remember your high school biology class where we studied the effects of genes through heredity. We used wheat in our class. The genes of large and small can be carried in a family and every generation of tall people also produce one or more short people. My mother’s youngest brother was 5’6″ and both of his sons were 6’3″. The short gene was the father that also carried the tall gene.

Why was his voice a high pitch? Low sounds are produced by large instruments and if stringed, the bass strings are larger in diameter. The vocal folds in the larynx were under developed in Austin, being short and thin. This may have changed by the time he was in his twenties. The fact that the girls and boys at school made fun of his voice was just teens being ignorant teens. Have fun at someone else’s expense. Not adult type behavior, but being silly ignorant children.

Did Austin find porn of the normal variety or did he find porn associated with bondage and torture? The bondage and torture was IMO what he found. Was there anyone on the internet that he communicated with concerning this fettish? LE needs to determine that if it has not been determined already.

Austin is reported to have confessed to strangling Jessica. Does forensics verify this? With only a torso to work with along with other body parts found in the portable cooler, it may be dificult to verify.

Has there been any evidence that places Jessica while still alive at Austin’s residence? The fetish of bondage and torture is a form of sexual arrousal and if carried to the point of death, the loss of life while momentarily arrousing, could be anticlimatic and a downer.

There is a difference between being smart and being experienced and wise. This is where a 17 year old fails. They do not project the future very well. Especially is this true where parents or siblings have protected them from reality and consequences of acts.

Very solid overview of this offender and great questions. Based on the timing, I can only say his brother was in school and on a regular workday, Mom was scheduled to work-

However, what I have not heard, is confirmation as to Austin’s class schedule that day.

Blink, don’t want to sound too graphic so do not print if you think best..however, in light of what we learned about decomposition in the CA case..why was the body not odorous? I noticed many of the team recovering the body did not have on masks. It just seems that a dismembered body would decompose even faster. The video is unbelievable…obviously for his own enjoyment. Are parents just thinking behaviors they are witnessing in their kids just “clear” up on their own?

It was contained in a crawl space under the house, I SUSPECT it had been frozen, so no, if that is correct, a human is not going to smell that in that state.

To your point, I am aware of two techs who viewed the limited remains, and both were wearing goggles and masks as protocol would dictate. The biggest issue with decomp is it’s environment and temperature.

Ambient temp is only in play if something is not frozen. No independent vett of that info though

So if he gave DNA, were they closing in on him, thus the confession? What was the delay if they had DNA on Jessica’s body?

The DNA on her person so far has only been reported by one outlet, and was not introduced in court, which would surprise me. The DNA they referenced was on the bookbag.

That said, the DNA on her person (if found) could be part of the ongoing and possible future charges so they may hold that.

He was a CSI student, he knew eventually they would nab him through his DNA yes, but we are assuming that he did not want to get caught, which is premature.

    B
    ——–
Okay, here is the marble rolling around in my head about this. As you said Blink, he gave LE a DNA sample when they canvassed the neighborhood…he would know that LE was going to know it was him. With all his CSI studies he had to know an arrest was coming his way.
And it seems like he didn’t go to any great trouble trying to remove evidence from anywhere. He even left the cross, that is just damning. Was he surprised when LE put it out to the media or was he expecting that?

Are these the actions of someone that doesn’t want to get caught? Or was he totally delusional? I don’t think I will ever understand the mind of these offenders.

We dont know he left the cross intentionally, but I suspect he did. And we do not know where or under what circumstances.

If he is a psycopath, or some spectrum of anti-social, then he is not connecting to the concept of a ticking clock the way a “non” would. As an example when he was in court- distanced flat affect, monotone interruption to the judge. This cat is in full control 24/7, in his mind.

He never heard the telltale heart because his pulse never goes above 68- as an analogy.

Austin’s neighbor across the street had mentioned the family’s beloved cat went missing last year. It was found cut in half on footpath behind house. Gawdalmighty…that should have been a warning shot for all. I’m still curious as to what the mother and brother must have known. i.e., the entire neighborhood had to have known about the kitty. Was everyone immediately suspect of one person? (I’ll be back in a few with where I read this – I think today’s Denver Post).

  14. Jane says:

A Denver Post article today titled “Police Strategy May Have Spurred Mom of Suspect Austin Sigg to Call” states this “Clark Betchel, a park ranger and retired Marine who lives across from the Siggs said that around October 15, FBI agents began knocking on doors, interviewing residents and asking them about their neighbors.” It goes on to read “Last summer, their cat Chewie disappeared. They later found him cut in half along the footpath that runs behind their house. There’s no telling what happened to the beloved family pet, but it’s the type incident that leapt to mind when they heard Jessica had been dismembered.” It was a lengthy article but that certainly jumped out at me. I wonder if that kitty was cut in half by knife right there or some other weapon somewhere else? Would LE have removed that collection Austin had and will they now test each blade?

  15. mosaic says:

Jaded party of one thousand, your table is ready. Our special tonight? Leftovers of Thwarted Justice originally served in Orlando last year. Glass of wine, anyone, to help wash that down?

Seriously though…even with a mental defense this crime was just so horrifically heinous. And we don’t even know if there was additional mutilation to the body beyond the dismemberment.

Do I believe he is evil? NO. I think he is one sick dude, literally. I don’t know how even an army of therapists could “fix” his dysfunction. Either way, I think it’s imperative that society be protected from individuals with these inclinations. Apart from the legal punishment for his alleged crimes, I don’t see how this guy could ever mix freely again in society.

Well I think he knew he was “off.” I do not ever want someone capable of this atrocity in society again- it is not treatable or curable. I do very much fear that.

Mental defense as juvenile, bench trial, this kid gets out someday.

    B

That’s an irony, isn’t it? If it was Austin Sigg posting as Lostwithinboredom who said, “I just want to connect with someone” he is now forever disconnected from everyone.

  16. mosaic says:

Thinking about the foiled attack on the jogger: What was his PLAN? After sedating her, how was he going to transport her? Dragging her? Carrying her? Are there woods nearby where he could quickly pull her body? Is there a place to park a car nearby? What are the exit routes from the point where she was attacked….are they accessible by foot only?

Could the additional unknown crime scene from Jessica’s murder be in this area?

  17. A Texas Grandfather says:

    Thank you Blink

With the small amount of known factual information, there was little more that I could conclude.

You raise a valid point in that we do not know the actual daily schedules of Austin, his brother or the mother.

We also do not know what the CST’s found on the premises regarding belongings of Jessica or perhaps her blood in a bathtub or its drain.

It does not take long to dismember a body with the right tools and a little knowledge of anatomy. Deer hunters often field dress an animal and then take it to a place for final butchering. I have done this removing the hide and cutting and wraping the meat including cleanup with help from a buddy in less than an hour.

I did not consider the fact that the body had been frozen. This means that the body would have been left, maybe wrapped in the large plastic trash bag, out of doors over night. Or the other possibility of placing the body in a chest type freezer either whole or dismembered. Frozen or near frozen meat is much easier to butcher than when at room temperature. This also reduces the amount of blood escaping the body.

Evidence of his behavior certainly indicates that he does not have a good connection to the real world.

This is the second case of teens killing a young girl in just a few days. Society must begin to work harder to identify teens that have these tendencies.

I’m a novice when it comes to the study of these types of individuals. I read Blink’s post regularly,as well as, a few others. As a “lay person” I think my point of view is based on emotion more than intellect as I don’t have a lot of education in this field. My psychiatrist told me once that sometimes it’s because there are people who are just plain evil. She said if everyone who committed these types of crimes were mentally ill then all of Nazi Germany suddenly became mentally ill. I tend to agree with her on this matter. She takes it very personally when something like this happens and everyone jumps to the conclusion that mental illness is involved.

    Welcome Tiberious.

I agree that it is possible that people can be born evil. I also know that opinion is not supported in much of the psyche community so it is good to know. Evil deeds do not make a person mentally ill, correct.

  20. Word Girl says:

In reference to an autopsy of the victim’s torso yielding strangulation evidence…Medically speaking, it may be difficult to determine if the strangulation was manual, ligature, or by hanging when there is a decapitation.

Presence of petechiae (forcing the capillary blood to burst out into other spaces of which there is a name that I can’t remember!)we tend to think of as appearing in the eyes, but it also occurs in the skin of the chest or upper torso area.

The condition of the lungs at autopsy may reveal edema, hemorrhage–or the surrounding structures, as well–the result of pressure on the larynx.

Depends on how low the cut(s) were performed during the decapitation. A ligature strangulation could show up on the skin below the point of decap. Clots (thrombo embolism) can occur up to a day later.

My point, and I could be misguided here (Eloise, help?) but I do believe strangulation can be determined in autopsy without a neck structure present.

“When pressure is placed on the
    neck, the victim first experiences
pain, followed by anxiety as the
    victim becomes distressed from a
    subjective sensation of difficulty
    breathing. With enough force to
    impair respiration, the victim will
    typically lose consciousness within
    10-15 seconds.
    Obviously, the
loss of consciousness is not solely
due to apnea. It is likely that arterial
    obstruction, venous obstruction, and
    autonomic nervous system reflexes
all play a role in the rapid loss of
    consciousness with strangulation.
The neck is vulnerable to external
injury because it does not have bony
    protection and within its relatively
    small diameter course the airway,
vascular supply to the brain, the
spinal cord and other vital nerves,
    and the cervical vertebral column.
External force can injure many of
    these important structures.
The airway is anchored at its superior end by the thyroid cartilage
and the hyoid bone. Fractures of
    both structures occur from manual
    strangulation, ligature strangulation,
    and hanging suicides.

I am no expert regarding porn and crime rates, but it seems that the two go together with irresponsible parenting. The following is a true story from my neck of the woods that happened earlier this school year – 12 year old girl rapes 2 of her female sleepover friends, ages 11 & 12. Yes, she was arrested. She comes from a family of professionals, well-to-do, but daddy has a habit – porn. This girl has been exposed and knows way more than other children her age in our rural area. I’m not a fan of sleepovers but they are a social activity everywhere. Here’s my point, no matter who you think you know, you don’t.
    ____________________________________________________________________

Cindy, I’m shocked at this story. Shocked because it’s a GIRL. Do you know what I suspect? I suspect the girl got into more than her father’s porn. I suspect she got into his steroid body building pills. I mean, women are so much less aggressive than men, biologically, our hormones alone. I’ve never heard of a girl raping. I suspect a drug of some kind. But whatever it was that made her do such a thing, you’re right. You have to be careful of everyone!

Thanks for the welcome Blink. My pyschiatrist was absolute in her belief that you can be born evil even though she was ostricized for it. I believe that society as a whole must come to accept that not everybody can be “saved”. Until we recognize that we can’t rehabilitate everyone we will continue to have laws and punishments that don’t fit the crime. A step in the right direction is to step back from the stigma we still attatch to mental illness. I myself have bi-polar so I do have first hand knowledge of this treatment. People still hesitate to seek help because of the continued belief that somehow it’s worse to be mentally ill than if you have a physical ailment. The misconceptions people have inhibit the early intervention in these cases. There actually is really very little a parent can do with a young child that they believe has issues. It has been mentioned in comments here that perhaps the family was afraid of him and were glad to have an excuse to have him removed from the home. Some also question that if the family was aware of his issues that they should have gotten him some help. I agree but generally speaking there isn’t a lot of help availble. I know of people who are very aware that their child as problems but have no where to turn. There are no facilites to have them placed in and there are long waiting lists at the children’s clinics. I’m aware that every case is different but society’s attitude has made if very difficult for families to handle these children’s problem. Time and again when a young person commits a particulary viscious crime people look to place blame on the family for not getting them help. Sorry for being so long winded but I think socity needs to look at how their attitudes about evil and the mentally ill actually contribute to a great many of these situations. To be clear I am not blaming society for these animals actions. I just think it’s time for an attitude adustment,

I applaud you tiberious, for seeking treatment and recommending same for others.

The thought of this guy getting out is disturbing, daunting…terrifying. He has to be tried as an adult.

I was pondering the success of treatment on sociopaths, psychopaths, and psychotics. I believe you when you say that he is not treatable. Do you think that an offender like this, prior to an “event” of this magnitude, is treatable? When do the signs become so .. apparent or conclusive that a person can be diagnosed?

    @ Tiberious-

Interesting observation and conclusion by the psychiatrist re Nazi Germany. There is a phenomenon referred to as “group think”. I have to believe that not all Germans were evil, that they fell under the spell of Hitler and his machine, and were caught up in “group think”. I have always marveled at how most of the regular citizens sat around as kristallnacht unfolded, and did NOTHING to help their neighbors. It blows my mind. I studied a bit about “group think” as a part of game theory.

As for whether something is a mental illness or not, it is clear that people like this guy, Dahmer, etc… are bent. Were they born bent, or were they born with a predisposition that was triggered by some event or environment? I expect it is the latter. Like a switch that gets flipped on by something. Blink, can you share what the difference is or the … process..between a run-of-the- millsociopath/psychopath/psychotic, maybe self-destrictive, or who hasInot/will not progressed to such sociopath/psychpoath/psychotic, and this type of person? There are millions of narcissists in the world, many who are probably really sociopathic, truth be known. But, fortunately, this type of person is rare. What is the difference, other than the fact that they’ve something so obvious and heinous?

Blink, can you share what the difference is or the … process..between a run-of-the- mill sociopath/psychopath/psychotic, maybe self-destrictive, or who has not/will not progressed to the level of actions/behavior of this perp?

That is a study segment on it’s own my friend, way too broad, but good question.

  32. A Texas Grandfather says:

I believe that there are two paths to evil excluding a damaged brain.
The first is via heredity and the second is by choosing evil.

Is that a provable thing with the knowledge we have today? Probably not, but perhaps with improved knowledge and testing techniques it can be done in the future. This is sort of like me finding my mothers 1910 chemistry book that declared the molecule to be the smallest unit of matter. When we find out the true causes, we will look at all the various theories the same as that 1910 textbook.

Everyone in the North East in the path of Sandy, please be carefull. Those near the water are in the most danger and we don’t know what the interaction with the NorEaster is going to create. Sustained winds of 40 or more miles an hour over a long period can do a lot of damage to trees and roofs that are not securly installed.

I have been through four hurricanes beginning with Audry in 1957, Carla in 1961 and two smaller ones in the 1980′s. Each one was different. Water damage from Carla, a monster storm, was 20 miles inland from the shoreline and Audry knocked down 100 ft. pine trees 75 miles from its center.

I’m posting links to two interesting articles about whether children can be “born evil”:

The first proposes that babies that fail to make eye contact with their caregivers do not develop empathy.
    http://www.smh.com.au/lifestyle/life/bad-to-the-bone-20110920-1kifx.html

The second link includes comments by Dr Kent Kiehl, Neuroscientist, from the University of New Mexico.

“I tend to see psychopaths as someone suffering from a disorder, so I wouldn’t use the word evil to describe them.”

“Clinically, we define [a psychopath] as someone who scores high on traits such as lack of empathy, guilt and remorse,” says Dr Kiehl.

“They are very impulsive: they tend not to plan or think before acting. They tend to get themselves in trouble by a very early age.”

Lastly, for anyone interested in a fascinating book (fiction), I recommend We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver.

I thought of something else we can do to help prevent crimes of all kinds. I’m visiting family in NH, and we were talking about this last night. My father lives in an old age community. He has a new neighbor whose son-in-law is a police officer. The son-in-law visits for lunch almost every day. We were saying that it’s great that he comes around so often, because it establishes a presence to anyone who might be watching and looking to prey on them.

I do worry sometimes about the old people because they’re vulnerable to robbers and home invasions.

If you are friends with a cop, or are related to one, invite them over often, or even if some of your friends and relatives are big guys, it’s good for them to be seen visiting you.

Organize neighborhood watches around them- not the Zimmerman kind, but a network designed to keep each other accountable to check on elderly or otherwise at risk folks. Great idea.

You guys dealing with Sandy be safe. We’re oceanfront in Central Florida. The storm’s waves and winds were incredible but no damage. Just tried checking in with family in different areas of Virginia but circuits are all busy. Hope everyone is prepared and realizes power could be out for some time. Ugh. I thought Florida was the Hurricane state?

Like father – like son. The father’s crimes point to sociopathic behavior. AS has this trait, but worse. They both victimize and keep re-offending. Both should be taken out of society.

  42. Amys Sister says:

Someone I know did not bond with a parent or anyone as an infant. She was then raised in a couple of dysfuntional homes. There was love but there was also weird family ‘games’, verbal abuse, some physical abuse, etc… Her life consisted of drugs, running away, promiscuity, and a real lack of inner self. She claims post traumatic stress and borderline personality but I suspect it’s more than that.

She has a good heart. Loves life. But, she’s effed up and has been a horrible mother. She’s lost both of her children and cannot control her anger. It’s a dark anger unlike any I’ve ever seen. A serious anomoly to be able to carry both that kind heart and that darkness and which one will manifest itself depending on the day?

Would she ever kill someone? I don’t think so but there is a part of her that developed, or didn’t develop, who knows? Maybe we learn to be loving or unkind starting from our growth in the womb? Her mother was beaten by her father when she was pregnant so the violence and abandonment happened before she was even born. Physically speaking, all the hormones she was exposed to as that prebirth developement took place.
    _____

I do blame parents for what their children become. I blame the households my friend was raised in for allowing an already wounded child to be treated badly, for not getting her help before it was too late, for allowing her to control the house as a teenager, and I blame her parents for the original abandonment just as I blame Austin’s father for leaving his ex to fully raise the two boys on her own, and his mother for allowing him to collect knives and swords and use the internet unsupervised and taking her 15 year old son to his brothers murder hearing.

IMO if we don’t take responsibility for our kids we are doomed to a neverending cycle of becoming victims to the unwell of mind, heart, and spirit.

  43. Jane says:

I’m still curious as to when Austin began acting on his desires. Was the neighbor’s kitty that was cut in half his doing? I’ve heard reference to his three legged sugar glider. Where’s its other leg? Did they have any pets at any time that are no longer with them? If so anyone familiar with how/when they died? What about that brother? He’s now a teen, right? Did he appear to be close to his brother, frightened of him? Was he at school the day Jessica was abducted? If frightened, I wonder why. Could he have witnessed or been told anything? Of course, I’m not pointing my finger at him, just looking for answers.

Prayers to all in the path of this confluence of Sandy/nor’eastern/winter storm/multiple high tides monster-mess that is huge in area and will effect so many.
All the way over in my direction, the weather service is predicting 24-33 foot sea’s for Lake Huron & Lake Michigan.

Time to batten down the hatches.

We do, thank you. We have had snow noreasters before, but this is entirely different. Stay safe everyone!

I agree with you- the only thing I might add to support strangulation without full body would be evidence of aspiration, which they could prove or disprove with her torso. That and if they were any scratching to the chest area- but again, depends on what they have and how things were separated. Yikes- I know. :(

True, as well as some other markers I will not discuss publicly, but involve pulmonary edema.

If enough of the larynx, strap muscles and of course fracture to the hyoid were present, absent any questionable findings ( yes, you could absolutely tell whether a person bled out if blood volume loss was post mortem)

#43 MandyVZ – OMG, those comments are really frightening. Posing the mutilated, beheaded dead dogs? Seriously, these are sick crimes and if the criminal was actually profiled what exactly was LE doing to follow up on this? It seems it was just a matter of time before something much worse was to happen. Also, what about these friends that were seen with Austin? What’s their background and story? How can all these people talk about how nice Austin really was? Who has really scratched beneath the service and truly seen The Real Austin Sigg. Did his brother and or mother KNOW him? I think when you live with someone you KNOW a lot more and probably know a lot more than you want to share. jmo

  47. Jane says:

Do you think Austin enjoyed the sun, sand and surf in the USVI? I say probably not. I’ll bet he was frothing having to leave behind all the “fun and games”. Wonder if he just piled up on the bed each day and ordered up adult porn? Anyone else go with them or were they joined by anyone else?
