Jodi Arias Trial: New Witnesses May Reveal Defense Strategy- Prosecution Omissions

Phoenix, AZ- In a terse exchange prior to the hiatus in the Arias trial, the defense repeated their contention that they want The Honorable Sherry Stephens to order a directed verdict or a mistrial in the State’s case against Jodi Arias.
As reported exclusively by BOC it does seem the prosecution missed quite a bit of potential evidence including a possible motive- the duct tape around Travis’s right arm. Was it the final straw that made Jodi Arias snap as she was allegedly taking photos of Travis in the shower without his knowledge?
There was also an exparte hearing held in Judge Stephen’s chambers, however, the contents of those minutes have not yet been filed- although the docket suggests they have. The defense is now testing Jodi Arias’s canon camera for some undisclosed reason.
With the defense preparing to start its case next week in spite of the outstanding motions before the court- have the prosecution’s actions harmed their case?
The issue at the forefront seems to hinge on something that the prosecution never introduced- On Purpose, says Prosecutor Juan Martinez.
The prosecution’s very first witness, Maria Hall, who was the female friend attending the Cancun trip with Alexander on June 10th, told the court that Travis told her he had been stalked while on a date with another girl and had his tires slashed. The intimation before the court was clear regardless of the defense attempts to point out that Travis never said it was Jodi who was responsible.
Nancy Grace and Jane Velez Mitchell lit up their HLN evening roster discussing Arias’s stalker behavior with several associates of Alexander. Dr. Karl Hiatt said one Sunday he was told that he had his tires slashed and that it was possible that something might escalate and he may not show up for dinner as a result.
Outside the presence of the jury Juan Martinez argued that they did not call the witness who Travis was on that particular date with because he did not want to create “an inflammatory” situation for the jury causing an appellate issue.
However, Martinez also lets it slip that Lisa Andrews Daidone does not want to testify and the defense tells the judge the prosecution has withheld her contact information from them and THEY intend to call her. Daidone recently deleted her FB profile and other social media sites in her name.
Does it make any sense to anyone why a prosecutor would not call a witness who could place a dangerous weapon in the hands of a person committing a destructive and openly violent act who they allege is guilty of doing exactly that for exactly the same reasons in the instant case?
From Daidone’s bog entry in 2008:
”…So because Heavenly Father allowed this to happen, I have grown in such a way that I couldn’t have otherwise, or at least not as quickly. While if you asked me a few months from now if I could go back would I change it, I would say “Absolutely,” I’m not sure how much I would actually change about it. Of course I wouldn’t want Travis to be taken. I might even opt for Jodi to be popped instead. But who am I to decide the fate of the hundreds of people that have been effected by this? It’s hard
to say which way is better. Travis always talked about Opportunity Cost. He spoke of how his time could be used best, to benefit the maximum amount of people. I’m sure he wishes he could have done more while he was here, but I don’t think he regrets leaving. He is doing something amazing up in the Spirit World. I know it. I can feel it. He is continuing to learn and progress. He’s helping others to do the same. He is the same wonderful, creative, spontaneous, caring, gentle, driven, foe- paint-loving, show-tune-singing man that I fell in love with…”
Is it because in the 48 Hours Mystery program so frequently noted by the defense Detective Flores openly states there was no evidence whatsoever that Jodi was involved in that incident after he repeats his theory that Travis was shot first? Both these statements made by the lead detective in the case on national television directly conflict with the prosecution’s case as testified by Esteban Flores.

Is it because they already know who was responsible for the multiple tire slashing incidents and presenting that information might corroborate a story told to them by Arias in the past?
In her own words, Lisa Andrews Daidone began dating Travis Alexander in July 2007. According to the minutes filed from trial January 16th, the tire slashing incident was in December 2007, both Alexander and Andrew’s tires were slashed and the individual came to the front door . Martinez states Andrews will testify to these facts. Prior to dating Alexander, Daidone was dating a common friend and member of their Mormon ward- Steve Bell. Arias claims she and Travis began dating February 2, 2007.
Daidone will not go into how she and Travis began dating, or why, but there is a Steve Bell connected to this group that has had some serious troubles with the law immediately preceding the break up, and many following.
Could the mystery stalker have been on her end and NOT Arias? If so, you can bet the defense will be bringing that issue into court next week and providing the jury with this eye opening gem- expected to cause further problems with the State’s theory.
That’s not all, unfortunately.
Thomas Brown, a former roommate of Travis Alexander in the home of his murder, was interviewed up to three times by Detective Flores whereby he told them that Jodi had open access to the home when he was around and the Arias he knew was completely shy and somewhat awkwardly withdrawn. He was having a hard time picturing her do this without help and he told cops that.
He also told them something about Travis being shocked to get the call that Jodi Arias was standing outside the home the early morning hours of June 4, 2008 and that he had been up all night performing some sort of protection rite. Brown’s information was not included in any information given to the defense and he was not even aware his name came up in the investigation by Jodi Arias herself. I would expect that issue to surface promptly as well.
Gus Searcy, $100K ring earner for Prepaid Legal Services and now Legal Shield was noticed to be available this week for interview. Travis was scheduled to be on the conference call with Searcy at 6:45PM the evening of his murder.
Artful Dodging
While the trial is in hiatus, one are of Jodi Arias’s life is quite active and well, pecuniary.
Arias, through her family, has taken to EBay to sell her personally rendered offerings the macabre set is snatching up for a few hundred clams a piece during the trial.
It is believed to be managed by Arias’s mother Sandy, who uploaded images to Arias’s MySpace after her incarceration to include one of Gary Alexander- Travis’s older brother.
The defense portion of the Jodi Arias trial for the murder of Travis Alexander led by Kirk Nurmi and Jennifer Willmott will begin its case January 29th.

Sorry. I should correct what I said about the drawings. The drawings that were sold on ebay were done years ago (2000-2004). The one of Travis’ brother (in Blink’s article) and maybe more on her Myspace page must have been done later.

Pasadena, she paid for Starbucks at 8:41 and 1 minute later 8:42 she’s pumped and paid for 8 gals of gas. One minute! something not lining up there.
Covering for someone else, or just some form of her twisted games, I don’t see the gas issue important enough to get her off. Doubt she did this alone maybe. But, the bottom line still ends up at, she logs them every where but Arizona = COG
She went over 2800 miles. @25 mpg, she should have had receipts for a lot more gass. About 112 gals (or more if my generous 25 mpg is 20 gpm)
The only problem I see is how will a jury handle it.
The prosecution throwing out receipts that scream someone was with her but not addressing them any further, checking gas station register times, security videos etc risks the danger of just what happened .. doubt! Someone on that jury thinks she wasn’t alone and when that happens, it sways their vote.
Unfortunately, Martinez wasn’t even paying attention to his own witness who more than once tried to flag him that is not a “duplicate” receipt like Martinez was claiming and it was in fact, “different amounts of gas”. A ‘wrong’ PA looks less creditable. Doubt is cumulative.
What is good is; thank God, Jodi convicts herself! Had she not been a photo obsessed killer with diarrhea of the mouth, she would have had a good chance of walking away from this bungled mess imo. And thank goodness she is poor and didn’t get famewhore attys hiring hot shots that could poke doubt in the holes the prosecution left unanswered.
Hopefully, that is enough to get her LWOP. I think the prosecution gets an F in this case. And LE was so over confident, they got lazy and thought ‘we don’t need it’ on a ton of things.
Then again, we have Flores looking like a liar, the ME slicing liquid (rolleyes) and …. the def CIC this week. Never know, she might pull off an OJ yet. Stranger things have happened. But, I don’t think this ‘team’ is trying to get her off, but rather, just trying to spare her life. And, not spending energy for their own fame so my guess is we end up with guilty LWOP.
This defense, imo, has one goal- a hung jury. I don’t think they are aspiring an acquittal- I think they know the road to the best deal is through this proceeding not rendering a verdict- and they are correct.
This should be a capital case. However, the evidence is just not strong enough to support it, and in some cases, conflicts with it.

Flores then reports that Enrique looked confused, “THINKS’ he saw Travis Wed night possibly on a conf call when E got home from work. When Flores tells E, but Travis missed that conf all, it switches from in the kitchen eating seeing Travis to Enrique can’t be sure.
What I find very off in that report is Flores first reports
“Thursday was the first dsy things seemed a little odd’
from Enriquewhen he arrived home from work and the door was locked (Travis never locked that door) and furniture moved and floor cleaner in middle of the floor. And, gf comments Travis’ ring and watch on kitchen counter. And, dog fence blocking the stairs when Travis never restricts the dog access.
Then in the next breath, Enrique said nothing seemed odd until Sunday when Travis didn’t go to church.
So which is it, Thur or Sunday begin anything ‘odd’ for Enrique?.
And if Enirque just thought Travis was out of town, WHY would not going to church be odd?

Possibly she filled a couple of gas cans and left in trunk? Would it state fuel on receipt if she purchased sundries and no fuel?
In a case were the hard evidence of JA’s guilt is a single handprint, a few hairs and the photos, the photos tend to dominate discussion, but there is a lot that we don’t know.
1) Have we seen all the photos, or just a selection of photos hand-picked by the prosecution? I suspect the latter. Unless this was a brand new SD card, I would expect a lot more photos. The boudoir photos we have seen show JA posing for the camera, but TA seems uninterested (or unaware). Are there other photos which would change our perspective? There are rumors that there are photos the prosecutor did not show to avoid embarassment to the victim’s family.
Many people have assumed that JA deleted theses photos, but it is likely that TA deleted them well prior to the shower incident. If these photos were to be made public, it could devastate his career. I also suspect that after the excitement of play time wore off, his sense of regret and remorse had kicked in.
2) What was the purpose of the shower photos? Was JA trying to create “snuff” photos so she could relive her kill? Did she change her mind when he didn’t die as expected? I’m not sure. The photos however are not erotic in any way.
3) Why is the defense suddenly checking JA’s Canon camera? After 5 years of preparation with the knowledge that deleted photos had been erased from TA’s SD card, did they suddenly realize that deleted photos could be recovered? I would have assumed that LE would have already checked out her SD cards, hard drives, etc. So what does the defense want to accomplish? Is the simply toying with the prosecution, or is this a back-door to enter in photos which may been previously excluded by the judge.

The receipts you list show that on Dec 3 and Dec 6, two gas purchases were made only minutes apart. 4 minutes on the 3d and 8 minutes on the 6th. It would appear that 2 cars were being gassed and travelling together. It would also seem to show the 2 vehicles travelling together prior to and after the murder. The actual receipts would be helpful. If the dates and times could be confirmed, it puts a whole new spin on this case. If she was filling up gas cans, she probably would have put all the gas on one bill.
If confirmed, this information helps neither the prosecution (where is the accomplice?) or the defense (sugests premeditation).
I don’t think we can be sure that she would have put all the gas on one bill, as some of the receipts she claims she was keeping for expense tracking purposes- if there is reimbursement potential she may need to keep to certain rules, etc.

Hi! I am new to the site but wanted to throw in my two cents.
There are far too many “coincidences” in this case to actually consider them a true unfortunate coincidence once you start adding them up.
Gun: Odd that the same caliber weapon is reported stolen from JA’s Grandparents home that is used in the murder
Rental Car: Why drive that far to rent a car? Why ask for a plain jane white focus? Why return the car with no floor mats?
Hair: It is clear she loved being the streotypical “blondes have more fun” so why change to brown so suddenly and WHY at this particular moment in time?
License Plate: How convenient it was upside down when you entered the state of Utah, knowing you were likely to get pulled over.
Kerosene: That in itself is quite the odd purchase for a road trip unless you were planning on camping or driving a diesel vehicle in the winter and afraid fuel would gel and it wouldn’t start.
If it had been one or two of those things.. maybe, but ALL of those things, no one is that unfortunate.
A few other things of note as well. How many times in the audio and video interrogation/interview tapes did we hear her say what a caring wonderful good guy he is, not prompted mind you, unsolicited. I know there are theories that she is saying that to cover for him and prevent him from being seen in a poor light by the church, yada yada yada.. not buying it. For someone who was supposedly so horrifically abused wether it be mentally, physically or both, at some point she would have made some form of negative or derrogatory comment about him, but no, not once.
A lot of people were also concerned about Ms. Uddy being called to the stand and her testimony not doing the prosecution any favors because she stated that JA was a quiet soft spoken person. What else did Ms. Uddy say, she spoke of 2 phone calls from JA and in BOTH calls JA was crying and saying she could not understand how or why this would happen to someone like TA becuase he was such a good person.. WHY would you call a friend and say this if that same good and caring person was abusing you for months? What purpose would her calls to this woman and these comments serve? I think this alone proves that TA really didn’t abuse her to the degree she is claiming in order to get off, yes he may have said some mean and nasty things, but maybe that was the only way he thought he could get this human barnacle to take the hint he really didn’t want her anymore.
I am not saying he was an angel,but I am just not seeing anything that proves that he was the monster they are trying to depict.
I think she showed up out of the blue, let herself in as she has many times before, caught him off guard, he was like hey, why not take advantage of a little lovin since your here, and then when they were done with the smexin, he said look that is going to be the last time, I am moving on, I no longer want to continue with this, don’t want to see you again, not get out.. she “leaves” he hops in the shower to wash off the memories and she comes back in and attacks him.
She knew he was going to Cancun with another woman so she figured,I am going to be the last woman to have him, I will have my one last fling to remember him and then I am going to make sure that no other woman will have him. I am sure from past interludes she knows what his routine is and knew he would head to shower giving her a chance to arm herself for one final battle.
I think the shower pics were a spur of the moment thought, she saw the camera and decided to take a few pics of him in the shower to remember him by, but accidentally got it caught up with the bedding and it ended up in the washing machine.
She knew she needed to get the heck outta dodge in a hurry and didn’t have time to tie up a lot of the loose ends as she would have liked. She knew she was on borrowed time because there was someone expecting her in Utah and she had to make sure that she could come up with a plausible excuse for missing her eta, so she had to get back on the road.
This woman is diabolical and seriously thrives on attention.. I mean have you ever seen anyonme who loves to hear themselves speak more than this woman… she never shuts up on any of the interviews/interrogations…

RE: Seemingly strange gas purchases
In high school I had a classmate whose father was a business owner and rather wealthy. When his father would cut him off from spending money, he would offer to fill gas tanks using his father’s company gas card, in exchange for cash. He would often do this immediately after filling his own gas tank. I often wondered if his father and/or accountant found it odd that he would have gas purchases in that manner. But his dad probably had 40-50 gas cards floating out there. Perhaps the “2nd” purchase of fuel by JA was to “make some cash”…??

The murder happened on Wednesday, June 4th, at about 5:30 PM, or 1730 hours military time.
I marked the page numbers from the PDF where the roommates say they last saw Travis after this time. I do think these are just honest mistakes.

The last time he thinks he remembered seeing Travis was on Wednesday evening, after he got home from work. Enrique said he normally gets home from work at 1800 to 1830 hours. He remembered Travis on the phone, possibly on a conference call.
Wednesday seemed to be the last day things were somewhat normal….
Thursday was the first day things seemed a little odd. The morning was normal, but when he got home at around 1800 hours, the front door was locked….
Enrique said he remembered he and his girlfriend Kim were going to the Temple that evening. He just hung out in his bedroom watching television and playing a video game until his girlfriend showed up. He also remembered his girlfriend, Kim, saying something about Travis’ CTR ring and watch sitting on the kitchen counter…
…. I asked Enrique when he thought this happened to Travis. He said it was possibly on Thursday, while he was at work. Thursday was the day things were moved around downstairs and his ring and his watch were on the kitchen counter. I told Enrique that Travis had missed a scheduled conference call on Wednesday evening that week. Enrique seemed a little confused, because he remembered being in the kitchen on Wednesday evening eating, when he saw Travis walking downstairs on the phone doing a conference call. Enrique said he could not be certain what day it was he last saw Travis.

Wednesday the 4th was his day off. He got up and returned the rental car he had been using. His car was being repaired after being in an accident.
He returned home at about 1500 hours for about an hour before going back to Mandy’s house at about 1600 hours.

After cleaning Mandy’s house on Wednesday, he returned home at 2100 hours. His girlfriend Mandy and her parents were returning the following day from their cruise.
I’m so frustrated and disappointed at the disorganization of the State’s case and the detective. Does anyone know these answers? Apologies if you’ve already gone over them-I’m getting my quarterly ‘Blink fix’.
1. Does anyone know where TA’s cell phone found in the house and if he had any contact or a female tried to text him with anyone while Jodi was there? I think while he was in the shower she went through all of his
texts (to and from females) and computer and that (among not canceling Cancun) set her into her rage and provides more motive. She had responded to texts from his phone before (while he was sleeping) when a female (MH) had texted him-saying something like “I’m with Jodi” and then deleted it like the crazy she is.
2. Did the medical examiner believe he had been shot first or stabbed? I was confused by his testimony as the defense or state said it contradicted what he told the detective.
A few tidbits-and some of you wise peeps have touched upon these…
I think Jodi dyed her hair as she wanted Travis to see her in a different light. She knew MH and his ex were brunettes and maybe she thought he was into brunettes and also felt that she would look more ‘mysterious’ or more sophisticated than just being the ‘blonde bombshell’. Maybe she asked Travis if he thought she should dye her hair and he said she should. Then she shows up on his doorstep saying “look I did it and wanted to surprise you!” haha I could see her doing something like that.
The gasoline must have been so she could go undetected plus she used it to burn the towels etc with the blood on them.
The camera in the wash mystery- In her frantic clean-up she swooped it up in the sheets and accidentally put it in the wash. Ooops. It can happen easily-hell, I’m surprised I’ve never done that with my phone or something. She wanted to clean the sheets as he hump stains were on there which would have placed her at the scene. There would be no reason for her to wash it as she could have just taken it, right? I mean, she took the murder weapons. As for it landing on top-well, who knows. Stranger things have happened.
As for her ‘handedness’, I’m a lefty and always use my right hand to take photos even though the button is on the right side. My right hand is actually a lot stronger and I am more comfortable doing many things with it, except writing and throwing. I fire a gun with my right hand, and stab raw meat with my left
I really don’t think that he was praying or felt bad for the sex with Jodi. C’mon, he’s a dude. Even if he’s a mormon he’s still a guy and seemed to have plenty of times to remain celibate after bedding her…plus he had phone sex with her and had some raunchy fantasies. I just don’t think that she would be able to take those photos through the glass because of steam. If she had the door open It almost seems as if she was annoying the f out of him by taking the photos and taunting him-probably being passive aggressive, making sarcastic comments about his buff Cancun bod. And he was just trying to shower and telling her to get the hell out of his house and then ignoring her. I’ve pestered my poor fiance a time or two (PMSing and wine should be illegal!) by being annoying, relentless, irrational and my personal fave PMS fight tactic, passive aggressive. Luckily, he doesn’t have a temper but if he were in the shower and I was on his arse about something, I could see him just telling me to leave and then just trying to relax in the shower and not say a word as I remained obnoxious. If Jodi was being relentless I think he finally screamed at her, told her to leave or stop, she didn’t like that and then it all went down.
Also, what’s with the automatic photos on the camera while he is being dragged? What do you think the reasoning is behind this? Do you think the settings accidentally turn to a timer, maybe when it dropped or if he grabbed for the camera?
I have faith in this jury. I got sooo nervous about the Drew Peterson trial as it seemed the State was losing battles left and right. There is just too much evidence of premeditation. I just hope the trial ends soon as I can’t get any work done!!! Gah!!!
ps Blink-I’ve been meaning to ask you for a lonnng time- are you familiar with the Rebecca Zahau ‘faux suicide’ case. It is fascinating and I really can’t believe they did not investigate. I guess money talks?

I did not cover Ms. Zahau’s case because my brief analysis leads to the finding of two pathologists that I know of- she unfortunately committed suicide. It was worthy of scrutiny of course, but ultimately, I think the un-released records confirm this.

Good post, Twitch. But not only does she love to hear herself talk…I’ve never seen anyone enjoy taking pictures of herself or having their pictures taken so much. I think she had the two of them pose for a photo every single time they were together – maybe not always knowingly. Poor Travis. I wonder if there are any men out there that she unknowingly photographed in compromising positions and then used against them. People, wake up…if you meet a person who is a shutter bug freak beware – who knows when your pictures will be taken and where they might show up.
It occurred to me too that the photos would have been devastating to Travis’ career. That’s part of the reason I think he never agreed to any of them. I don’t think he was aware that she was taking the photos of him on the bed or in the shower. And the photos of her, on his bed, could have been taken by HER. I suspect that was part of the reason that he looked so upset when he did see the camera. After all, he did suspect that she was the one who slit his tires, and he also told people she had hacked into his myspace or facebook account, so would she post some of these photos? She probably would have.

What did you all think about Searcy saying he has information that could hurt her or free her? I wonder why he didn’t contact Flores a long time ago?
I think we need to see the cross from Nurmi- I cannot imagine he won this hearing as his third allegation of prosecutorial misconduct with no merit- I do think it possible that this is a backdoor defense approach to get the Hughes couple on the record- and if that is the case, it worked.

I am as confused as ever after reading the autopsy report. I have never heard of superficial puncture wounds and the depth of some of his incised wounds being caused by the same sharp force instrument.
I am not sure I have enough detail to work through it, but I am seeing the possibility of two different weapons outside of the gun.

My comment:
I was reviewing Day 7 of the Trial, specifically the video recording of Arias wearing the orange jumpsuit and telling the story of the 2 intruders, etc. Anyway, in this interview she states that she had some “great ideas” of pictures to take, one of which she states is of Travis shaving. She then goes on to say that he liked to shave (paraphrasing) ‘the old fashioned way’ or ‘like they did in the old days’. She then states that he has a picture of himself on facebook or myspace shaving in that manner. I think she realizes what she just said and sort of tapers off that story pretty quickly.
Ok, so I immediately get a sick feeling…she is talking about a straight edge razor. Could this possibly be what was used in the attack? Was this razor found in the home?
I have considered and studied the wound signature of this weapon in homicide cases. I could only say if available, it absolutely could be responsible for the neck wound, but not the stab wounds as observed at autopsy. I am not prepared to do a full analysis on the disparities in autopsy in this case, just speculating at this point.

Regarding my comment above, as I just re-read it, I did not mean to imply that she ACTUALLY took pictures of him shaving that day, but that one of her “great ideas” was to take pictures of him shaving with the “old fashioned” razor on that day. Sorry if it reads poorly on my first attempt.

For a person who takes a gobzillion (yes, that is a technical measurement, LOL) pictures of herself in what seems like it was a daily, ritual, why hasn’t there ever been a picture that shows so much as a scratch. Especially if she has been abused, there would be a bruise or something peeking out by accident!! Heck there isn’t even a picture that shows a single cat scratch, which she has said was a frequent occurrence.
The one positive note about her love of herself and her own voice is that I think it will be near impossible for her defenses team to keep her off the stand. You KNOW she is chomping at the bit to get up there, she literally thrives on any form of attention, good bad or otherwise.
Can’t wait to see the fireworks tomorrow!!

I think if Det. Flores had known at the time that there was another suspect in the slashed tire incidents he definitely would have looked at that other suspect. When you think about it, Travis believed Jodi was responsible for slashing his and Lisa’s tires. He probably also thought she was responsible for the whoredom e-mail. He told everyone he knew that JA was a stalker and that their relationship had turned into a fatal attraction. It seems to me that story was becoming a legend among his friends and acquaintances. When Det. Flores first came to the murder scene, a group of Travis’ friends and roommates were standing outside. Marie Hall was with them, and she heard all the stalker stories from them. Every one of Travis’ friends that Det. Flores talked to told him that Jodi was a stalker. Each one pointed to the slashed tires and the e-mail…the stories that Travis had told them.
So IF the tire slashing WAS NOT done by Jodi, then well, it’s four years after the fact now, so what can be done? But I’d say whoever hated Travis enough to slash his tires was probably capable of doing violence to him. And because this is such a serious crime with such serious penalties, they should try to solve that crime now, even though it’s probably impossible now four years later.
Blink, question for you. When Lisa Andrews was interviewed, I believe she still had the stalker e-mail, and she forwarded it to Flores? Couldn’t the crime lab figure out who sent the e-mail to Lisa from the IP address of the sender?
All this is not to say that Jodi Arias isn’t a very strong suspect all on her own, but the tire slashing thing really is disturbing if Lisa’s ex was responsible. It’s occurred to me that if Travis and Lisa even suspected that someone other than Jodi might have been responsible for slashing the tires, then they both didn’t give much thought to breaking the 9th commandment, one of the most overlooked of the 10 commandments. I hope the defense comes up with the truth on this. If it was Jodi, well ok then. If not, well I think it’s very significant.
I thought the evidentiary hearing today would have been about something like this.
Yes, the electronic forensic analysts should know the origin of that email.
That said, it was never presented in the case in chief so I can assure you they already know it cannot be traced to Jodi, or at least to the burden for submission as evidence, imo.

1)The camera guy testified there were ‘a lot’ of photos not deleted. It left the impression they were innocuous. I don’t ‘assume’ JA deleted, I conclude it. Because, Travis was dead. Even if he deleted naked ones, that doesn’t leave him alive to delete others so the conclusion is reasonable. Added with, the photos are evidence themselves that he was unaware and to me it is a logical conclusion. More reasonable than not test imo.
2) I don’t think it was any ‘snuff’ attempt. If that was her intent, she would have used her own camera or taken the memory stick with her.
3) Bingo, the Canon is a red herring. Maybe Jodi hounding her own team trying to play lawyer again. She was suggesting her Canon in interrogations. I have no doubt she has some plan in her twisted mind she thinks might be important.
IMO, Juan should address the def’s opening premise “Travis’ dirty little secret”! That premise is powerful to some people’s way of thinking swayed. There are photos on her myspace from March 2008 with her and Travis traveling, with other couples, out in public. A few of those type of dated pictures (2008) Juan needs to point out ‘they don’t appear to be hiding do they”.
I wish I could write part of his closing! lol Draw a line between church and court to address the victim bashing from the def would be powerful —- ‘Yes, Travis sinned. But we aren’t in church! It is important to put this in the capsule of that specific interrogation. In Jodi’s mind, she is on the Ninja version! And by the very nature of interrogation, Jodi has to make up lies on the fly! For the case, I don’t think it is important which weapon she used because they never found one to present. And I’d bet my house Jodi / Def isn’t going to suddenly present any straight razor, OR her knife and gun. The autopsy pictures show more than enough to prove murder with a “sharp instrument”.
A born people watcher, I find Jodi’s visual thinking, fascinating to observe. The Ninja tape is especially so. IMO, it is stunning how it shows she thinks in ‘pictures’ more than in rational reasoning. It’s a murder and not funny, but I have to admit, I was sort of laughing. She gestures left, right, right left, both arms and hands, back and forth, back and forth. She gets lost in seeing “visuals” her mind needs, and even acts out her mental processing as she ‘struggles’ in trying to figure out her lies on the fly.

Nothing in JA’s photography prior to the day of the killing suggests anything nefarious; although to be honest, I have only seen a handful of photos.
The room-mates report of seeing TA on a conference call several hours after his death can be easily verified with phone records which I’m fairly sure both sides have already done. If his recollection were correct, it would imply that someone came back to the house the day after the murder, which is very unlikely.
There is a 4 hour gap between the nudie pics and the shower pics. A lot could happen in the meantime. Maybe they slept, talked or argued. Maybe JA left for several hours and returned (alone of with a helper). It is also possible that the camera clock was reset between the two sets of photos. (By setting the clock forward before the shower pics, the perp would have the opportunity to leave and establish an alibi for the time of the killing, resetting the clock prior to leaving. If the perp were unexpectedly bloodied and injured, the plan might have to be scrapped.) I personnaly do not believe that JA planted the camera, but with a four hour gap there is a lot that can happen. I am very interested in what the forensic analysis of TA’s computer will show.

there is another website dedicated to having a one sided pity fest on domestic abuse defense, and there’s no shortage of suspects behind every rock. I’m sure Jodi would have tried to throw Lisa’s ex under the bus if she had known about his dis-pleasure in TA and Lisa dating. Since the tire slashing wasn’t really investigated , they probably didn’t want to add any more speculation. the fact is, they had an overwhelming amount of evidence putting Jodi there, and she knew it. thus the 2nd alibi, but I’m sure her attorneys got to her and made it clear she was never going to walk out of prison, free,(she even made ref. to that in the interrogations video), and she better concentrate on saving her life.

The million-dollar question is what would have forced her to do it? And throughout this trial, you will heart Jodi was indeed forced.
In just under two minutes we go from the last picture taken of Travis in the shower, in just under two minutes of Travis’ body. You can see foot in the front, with his head and shoulders bloody.
In just those two minutes Jodi had to make a choice.
She would either live, or she would die.
Jodi did not always tell the truth about what happened that night.
She was scared. Scared about what had happened and scared about what she had done.
She had absolutely no experience with police interrogation before. And so when they talked to her, she wasn’t always truthful. Her fear and her panic about what happened there led her to tell different stories.

But in reality, Jodi was Travis` dirty little secret. From the moment, despite projecting himself as a good and virginal Mormon man, someone who was a temple member. From the moment he met Jodi, he was pushy and pushing her to have a sexual relationship with him.
And it took just about a week. Because the week they met at Chris and Sky Hughes house he got what he wanted.
Travis facade, inwardly dealing with his own sexual issues.
In Jodi he found someone to control, manipulate. Someone that would provide him with that secretive sex he needed. While on the outside he can still peruse the appropriate Mormon woman.
As Travis would explain to Jodi, oral sex really isn’t as much of a sin for him as vaginal sex. And so he was able to convince her to give him oral sex. And later in their relationship, Travis would tell her that anal sex really isn’t much of a sin compared to vaginal sex. And so he was able to persuade her to allow him to have anal sex with her.
Jodi wanted nothing more than to please Travis.
But the moment maybe you ought to see someone else.
But the moment Jodi would even talk to or text another man, Travis would degrade her.
Yell at her, embarrass her and humiliate her.
So Jodi learned quickly how to deal with Travis’ temper.
By being humble, compliant and agreeable good way to avoid his temper.
Officially broke up June 2007
Jodi broke up with him because despite saying he loved her, having sex with her, he was pursuing other women.
But Travis didn’t want to break up, begged her for forgiveness.
At time they broke up, Jodi was living in Big Sur, Travis in Mesa

Then when Jodi pretends to climax during this call, Travis tells her she sounds like a 12 yr old girl who was having orgasm for the first time. Then tells her, it’s so hot.
These are not comments of a man stalked. Comments of a person who he portrayed vs reality who he really was.
So what would have forced Jodi, it was Travis’ continual abuse.

She gets there, Travis is on his computer in his den.

Based on notes provided by Marie…. Travis is being painted as controlling, abusive boyfriend (as expected)… but has anyone interviewed any of Travis’s other girlfriends? Surely he had at least one, if not several, ex-girlfriends who could testify as to how he treated them. Abusers tend to abuse consistently– they seek out partners who will put up with it. So how did he treat other women he dated?
From Joan T’s notes on Flores’s report (page 17) … Zachary B. cleans girlfriend Mandy’s house… she and parents are to return the next day from a cruise. Was Zachary B. housesitting/petsitting at Mandy’s house while she was on the cruise? How long was Mandy gone on vacation… would Zachary have spent nights or extra time at her place or out with her upon her return? These are questions raised for me that might relate to the issue of the roommates being unaware that Travis was dead and not smelling a decomposing body in their house.
Also, if Travis was abusive to Jodi, with Jodi being such a shutterbug, why wouldn’t she photograph any evidence of abuse as it supposedly occurred over the course of their relationship– and not just accidental evidence as Twitch mentions… a bruise peeking out from under some clothing… but straight up photos to document the evidence in case something happened later. Don’t battered women do this??? Especially if Jodi didn’t always live with Travis, then she wouldn’t have to worry about him finding anything on her computer or hidden under her bed. Heck, usually a woman would confide in someone that she was being battered and abused. But there is simply no evidence of this along the way in their relationship.

I think it was mentioned that the roommates DID smell the decomposition but they thought Napoleon had messed in the house somewhere. I don’t remember if that came from the police report, but that’s the explanation I heard. After reading the whole police report, it doesn’t sound to me that the roommates spent much time together. They came and went, spent most of their time in their rooms, and both spent much of their time with their girlfriends when they weren’t at work or at church. They roommates did seem to be more like boarders than friends/roommates to Travis. Travis traveled a lot and he’d told them he was going to Cancun, but I don’t think it seems unusual that they wouldn’t know exactly what date he was leaving. How many of us are observant when we’re rushing around in our day to day lives.
Personally, I don’t think Travis abused Jodi. It’s not the feeling I’m getting. I think she hated him because she loved him and he didn’t love her anymore. I don’t think he was a saint, and I think there were times he was very unkind to her. He wasn’t perfect, but he wasn’t a monster and I don’t think he abused her. The two of them might have been pretty good at pressing buttons. I suspect this is going to be more of a “the SOB had it coming to him” defense rather than a self defense story. But we’ll see what the defense brings.
At the same time, I don’t think Jodi was a stalker. I think she did a grievously terrible thing. An unspeakable thing, and she herself doesn’t understand it. And I don’t think this trial is going to shed much light on it either. But the question of was it premeditated I think will be the central question for the jury. I don’t think they’re going to buy the self defense thing, and I think the questions they were asking a week ago about the roommates will go by the wayside during the defense part of the trial. I don’t think those questions will be considered in deliberations. Just my guess, at this point.

I read this here before. I have Photoshop, downloaded the pic you are referring to from the internet. I wasn’t able to see the reflection in his eyes only pixels. This could be powerful evidence if proven, but the defense could counter the photo was altered (ala O.J’s. Bruno Magli” shoes.

This is a powerful read and gives insight into the world of TA when he was a child and trying to grow up in a household under the most despicable conditions any child could ever encounter.
After reading his blog, I am so sad that the defense is dragging him through the mud in this trial, in order to save this woman who so savagely mutilated him in order to steal the life from him.
I almost feel that in the photo of him, when he is staring at the camera in the shower, that he sees the maniac he had been dating, in all her rage and darkness and he’s almost unphased because he’s already seen evil in its darkest form while growing up. Now here it is again – evil confronting him once more – and he’s just rendered speechless and frozen.
Caught in a vulnerable position, she had a gun, a knife and a rage, and he just slid down the wall of the shower stall to a squatting position as if to say – “Okay – I give up. You got me, I can’t defend myself.”
That’s what I see in his final moments alive. May the Lord have mercy on his soul, and may there be justice for TA in that his murderess pay for her terrible, terrible crime against him.
I saw his death on this Earth in his eyes, he knew.

I managed to take in some of the trial today and wondered what everyone thought about the ex-live-in-lover’s testimony about the gas cans. It occurred to me, as this testimony progressed, that he was sealing the deal for premeditation. It seemed pretty obvious to me she was stockpiling fuel to get through Arizona without detection (why didn’t she just pay cash?), but the boyfriend’s testimony confirmed it. He said she began to change before they split, failing to pay her half of the household expenses, getting breast implants and inviting “young Mormons” to their home for faith meetings. Told him no more sex because she was saving herself for marriage. HA!! Kudos to the entire courtroom for not bursting out laughing on that one.
Gus Searcy was a piece of work and obviously really rubbed Martinez in the wrong direction! Martinez can be something of a pitbull at times, but I think I like him anyway. I’m glad he doesn’t suffer fools on the witness stand, but hope he doesn’t alienate the jury with his rabid approach. What I think I missed today was what was so incriminating that Gus refused to testify to it. Gus comes off to me as smarmy.
I’ve also been looking at the dragging photo and think that could explain the relatively clean path through the blood trail down the hallway. The object being dragged initially struck me as a contractor’s bag–the 55 gallon drum liners that I love to overstuff heavier than my own body weight and d r a g up the steep driveway on trash day. While it is a struggle, those bags are slick enough to slither atop the most rugged terrain without tearing. It seems that most believe it was a sheet or blanket from the bed and that makes sense too. It would do a better job of clearing off blood down the center of the hall.
I realize the defense has more to come, but I think it’s looking very grim for Jodi. It sure is nice to have a group of people to “talk” to about the trial!

How about those gas cans he blew out of the water today. I do feel sorry for Jodi Arias sometimes, although I don’t have a spec of sympathy for her being abused because I don’t for one second think she was. She was a woman with free will. It’s not fair to women who have valid abused women’s syndrome defenses to say she was abused. I do feel sorry for her sometimes though. I don’t know why. I definitely feel sorry for her family. I’m trying to get at the truth of what happened here like everyone else is. We know she did it. We know by the absence of evidence that no one helped her. But when I get to trying to figure out the why of it, I start reading more and more about her, and I do, I feel sorry for her. I think maybe because she was broken hearted, and I always feel sorry for broken hearted people. She doesn’t deserve sympathy, but this is what I think of what she did. She was living in Yrekas. Northern California and Oregon/Washington is one of the most beautiful places in the world. The place has style. She had her family around her, and friends. She had her art and she really does have talent. She had her youth, and she’s a beautiful girl. She could have met another man and had a family. She had her whole life ahead of her. But she chose to drive half way across the country and kill the man she loved, and destroy her own life and her family will never be the same after this too. Travis’ family is severely damaged too. Not to mention the damage she’s done to her own soul. So I feel sorry for her. She destroyed Travis’s life and she destroyed her own life too. Just threw it away. For what? It’s not like he lived in the same house with her and she couldn’t get away from him. She had started a new life back in Yrekas. It’s tragic. Believe me, I’m not looking to make any excuses for her. I’m looking for explanations. Millions of people have suffered broken hearts. They heal.
If she was not a stalker, I’d like to know that for sure. Because I can cross that off the list to get at why. I do admit I sometimes still DON’T believe she did it, despite all the evidence, because it makes NO sense for someone to do what she did. But that doesn’t last long. I prove it to myself again. I know she did it. And she definitely needs to be in prison, because she could do it again. I’m sorry if my tire slasher identity post bothered you.
The shaving photo included in the previous piece by Blink is a Gillett safety razor of current vintage. I don’t think Jodie knew anything about how men shave. Probably thought all men used an electric razor like maybe her dad.
Men with heavy beards cannot get a close shave with an electric razor unless they make two or three passes. This puts extra wear on the heads and they have to be replaced more often increasing the cost of shaving. Most men in this situation just go back to shaving with a razor.
Safety razors came about in the 1930′s for most of the population. My dad made the switch about 1937 when Gillett came out with their blue double edge blades. By 1940 most men had put away their straight razors and strops and made the switch. Barbers kept the straight razor to shave around the ears and the back of the neck when giving a haircut. There are few real barber shops in existance today. Most are style shops and operated by women. Women use electric razors and clippers.
IMO a straight razor in the hands of a woman is a dangerous thing. Most have no idea of how to properly use them and for that matter few know how to properly use a knife. Ok ladies, this is just my experience and you may object. I know that is a generalization and may not apply to all.
Jodi lived her life as a pretender. She wanted to be more than she had the education or skills to accomplish. Just like the C-word with one of her early boyfriends who was associated with a church, Jodi pretended to be interested in what Travis was interested in regarding religion.
Travis did not live an easy life as a child. Those experiences made it possible for him to see through the pretenses of Jodi. He did not want to be in a situation where he was constantly worrying about what she might do next. This is what sociopaths do. They constantly create stressful situations as a manner of control.

I do not think that Travis had come anywhere near using his mercy credits granted by GOD. Whatever he may have done to bring this event about is not going to be held against him. He will live in a different world where people have learned to love one another as he works his way to find the father.

Anyway, his refusal to answer was quite interesting to me and then when the court room was cleared…I admit I am intrigued!!
I can’t say I’m 100% sold on the reasoning that revealing the identity, even if sealed, could have a potentially negative financial impact if CH were to find out… That would not be a large enough motivator to me to risk contempt or need to seek counsel…
Also, referring to pleading the 5th, isn’t that Gus basically saying if he were to answer it would /could incriminate himself? I am probably way off in that interpretation, so please correct me!! I look to your brilliant minds ….
Finding it amusing that the JA support site is stating that the receipts/gas cans mean absolutely nothing and in no way indicate any form of premeditation..it is perfectly normal for someone to stockpile filled gas cans in their trunk any time you take a road trip…I have driven all over this county and can’t say I have ever taken gas cans with me…is this a common practice for any of you? That little gem of info just screamed premeditation to me!!
I see how it lends itself to premeditation- however, as a person with petral OCD ( my tank is never less than 1/2 full) I think a valid counter argument with a rental is that a trip that long on her own in areas she was not familiar, it is prudent to insure she would not run out of gas- EXCEPT- apparently she did run out of gas so wth do I know, lol? Searcy discredits himself by his demeanor, macabre grin, combativeness and sarcasm. Whomever was in the car with him is most likely a situation that will either discredit his efforts for the defense, or jeopardize his personal or professional Life. As a juror, I would not trust this man. At the very least, the prosecution now has this information.
Has anyone noticed Arias staring at Searcy and licking her lips from time to time? I have not otherwise seen her do that. She is spellbinding, especially to men… a sociopathic woman who knows how to use sexuality to get what she wants. Women can be easily deceived too especially with her looks and soft-spoken, sweet voice. I have noted her turn to watch each juror as they enter and leave and then jotting notes.
Unless Arias produces a computer file, a diary, text messages, emails, letters or photographs to indicate prior abuse, I am not buying the self-defense theory. No abused woman is without all of the above.
As for Brewer’s testimony… Arias took nude shower photos, liked aggressive and anal sex, changed dramatically after becoming involved with PPL, borrowed two gas cans for her trip. I say score one for the State.
How much do gas cans cost? Really?
Where are the girlfriend witnesses with testimony of cries and tales of abuse from Arias?

Blink- I agree that it is a good idea to carry gas with you on any long trip, for lots of people it is second nature-and I agree that this could be argued.
But my next question would be was this second nature for jodi Arias? and if it was then why didnt she already have extra gas cans on hand as she had traveled to and from for awhile moving from California to Arizona and then back-
Next I would enquire as to why she felt the need to “borrow” gas cans from anyone-(yuck never thought i’d write those words again)
Why not just go and buy them as she was on the way to meet with a potential new love interest which would require her to again carry on a long distance relationship-(visits required) and as we have already heard many people attended “events” for work in other states…including JA

Finally I agree that the defense scored some points in getting talk of the letters and Travis “issues” & his possible “mistreatment” of Jodi into the record and I agree we will learn more from Sky…which maybe is the the whole reason that this whole misconduct fiasco began. Agreed-
Having said that none of this was in front of the jury- and the prosecution was successful in narrowing the scope- and the proceedings that went on in front of the jury played well for Travis not so much for Jodi-

I have a sneaking suspicion that Searcy or his associate in the vehicle recorded the conversation, or is concerned about any surveillance or wiretap issues because the call was monitored by someone and Hughes was not told. I think Mr. Hughes is lying about what he said to Searcy. I absolutely believe he told him he was working with the prosecution whether he was or not- and for Martinez to be animated and indignant at the suggestion when he knew full well someone from his office was playing whisper down the alley with Mrs. Hughes is disingenuous at best- it is misconduct at worst. The burden is that he (and HE is responsible for his office, et al) acted willfully.
I was floored at Abe realllonglastname- I would have thought that would have summoned John back toot sweet- if you caught it, he changed his story in the middle and that was why Martinez did not cross- they were trying to know what Searcy knew through others because it was allegedly exculpatory and Brady requires they turn him over to the defense- this is a fat risk that was unneccesary in this case, imo.

is the defense reading your blog? Lisa Andrews is now testifying and I think that if I was a juror (not sure how many jurors are female) I would identify with Ms. Arias’ female attorney. She seems very likeable. I’m worried some may start identifying with her and wondering how someone like her could defend such a cold blooded killer as Jodi clearly is. There is such a stark contrast before her and the prosecutor it’s crazy. Regardless, as much as I hate to admit it, I think the defense is doing a good job laying the foundation for their case or at least raising enough questions to get a hung jury
