    The Judge has allowed Jodi to give interviews to the media as the jury is an hour and a half into deliberations…..

    As many of you said already, today’s “presentation” was all about Jodi. How many people would be hurt/in pain if Jodi died? Talk about ticking jurors off! Seriously?! How about how many people are hurting/in pain because Travis died…at her hands. It doesn’t get any more narcissistic and egocentric than that. Fact. I don’t care if she donates every hair on her head to Locks of Love, weaves the wigs herself, delivers them in person, “copies” pictures to give to patients, and recycles the Cancer Ward’s trash while she’s there…Travis is still D-E-A-D and she killed him. Whether she did that single-handed or not is somewhat irrelevant, she’s admitted she killed him. Anybody co-conspirator (if there is one) foolish enough to trust her to take the rap for him/her has to be missing more than a few brain cells. Just sayin’ She’s no “Survivor”, she’s a user and a murderer. Just for the court’s record and the jury’s consideration, I’d love to know when that Survivor shirt was purchased/printed and when it came into Jodi’s possession. As so many of you also correctly surmised, she did indeed use her statement to once again trash Travis and pour salt on Samantha and Steven’s wounds. Regret? Sympathy? Repentance? Jodi never knew those words and never will…she has no soul, no conscience. She’s a god unto herself. In true mythological form, mere mortals exist to serve, worship, and appease her. As the jurors couldn’t miss it today, it really is all about Jodi to Jodi. Travis was a means to an end and when he failed to cooperate, she disposed of him…literally.

So in Dr Samuels’ world she carries the diagnosis of Personality Disorder – Not Otherwise Specified. I’m sure POS has a great meaning withput knowing it. Hervness is great.

    I do not know if I am just human or if I am a complete sap. I was still able to look at JA and feel sorry for a broken soul. She spoke like a robot. No emotion. She should be pleading for her life yet she could not muster up emotion for that. I still had tears for her. I really do not think she can be fixed. I really do not trust her to be around other people. I really did not want her to get the DP yet I don’t know what anyone can do with her. Now she is going to have multiple interviews and spew more lies that are pointless. Nothing will be learned, nothing will be gained. It is all so very tragic.

    You are kind and compassionate of the gift of life and this is one of the most soul-driven posts I have had the pleasure of reading.

    You impart what I feel is the basis of understanding and with God’s will, prevention.

    I openly admit I am not in a position to feel compassion for Arias because I believe strongly that she is parasitic and as an occupational hazard, when analysis comes up like this, I know the outcome. You bring the proper provocation for progress, imo.

    I wittnessed today a JA wich emotions does not fit to the situation the place nor the context of her speech. Shell is detached from reality. Her wiew of the subject matter ist not appropriate in this situation. (tshirt :o ne example)One have not the feeling she ist begging for her Life as she should better do showing remorse but instead she sticks with her battered womans trauma story.
    The approaches were good but not convincing because of the lack of deep emotions from herside. She , one more time managed to speak around the apology without apologising at all to have killed Travis no matter what the situation was.
    I am more and more convinced that she has no normal feelings and that her psychological problem has to be consirered more serious than it originally was.
    For me or it was bad counseling from from her attorneys as how she should speak and as to what she should say or she does not make what the attorneys tries to recommend her.
    I am very curious how the Jury decides and if JA could reach them in some maner.

    I am just shocked the judge has lifted the ban for interviews. This promotes infamy and I am afraid other attention seekers now believe they can get the attention they so desire. This is our judicial system reinforcing this kind of behavior. I wonder how many sociopaths, narcissists, etc are now saying….ah ha! Now I will be famous….but we all know infamous….this is a mockery.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Hi RU MOM: If the jury’s verdict is the death, these interviews will come to a screeching halt. Individuals who receive the death penalty are usually (at least in my neck of the woods) transferred from the jail to death row within 24 hours.
    If she is sentenced to life, I think the jurors who spared her life may regret it after watching her upcoming interviews.
    She will absolutely bloom in the prison environment.
    Well I know there has been some distance in time from the impact statements that Samantha and Steven gave, but that means those were the last words they heard and could ponder for several days before this bs. So may not be a bad thing.
    Judge lifted the hold on media interviews because the trial is over. Nothing else can change now since the jury is deliberating the last phase. No reason to keep the restriction. True to form she ready for all the interviews.
    She designed a t-shirt my azz. Also according to her website only a portion of the proceeds go to a charity not 100%. I for one do not believe any of it goes to charity now or in the future. It is all for her and her family and I do not even believe she will continue to sell them. It was all a dog and pony show.
    What I didn’t expect were the unsubstantiated or misrepresentations of her so called charities (Locks of Love) and offers to help educate follow women prisoners. Her friends couldn’t/wouldn’t follow through, so, she had to concoct a generous spirit for herself, which doesn’t exist. Whatever it takes, right Jodi? The audacity of her statement, was that no one would see through her pitch. ‘I lacked perspective’she recounts, when saying she’d rather die than live. Samantha, Hillary and Natisha’s eyerolls said it all, and were so justifiable.
    I feel so much for both families. Whether she meant it or not, there is no redemption in JA’s death. Travis is still gone and another family has to live with their brokenness.
    Well Wilmont did her usual thing and came on to counter Jodi’s argument about Jodi wanting life for her parents sake. Wilmont trashed the family for not raising Jodi correctly and for being abusive.
    The whole statement by Jodi was designed to impress the jury that she could do worthwhile things if given life rather than death.
    Even if given death, the appeals process will keep her alive somewhere in the vicinity of twelve to fifteen years. All at the public’s expense.
    Jodi still thinks she is the smartest person in the room, so she behaves accordingly.
    According to Arias:
    She didn’t really want to kill Travis, and couldn’t have imagined doing so, but Travis gave her no choice, because he behaved so very badly.
    If Travis had not victimized her with domestic violence, she would not have killed him.
    Because his bad behavior forced her to kill him, his brother and sister ended up getting their feelings hurt too.
    It is bad enough that she had to kill Travis, but if she is put to death, it would really hurt her family’s feelings which would make matters even worse.
    ——-
    According to Arias, her behavior was a result of others bad behavior. She is asking that she be allowed to live her life in the company of others who are imprisoned because they are criminals. So what did she offer that would keep her from acting out against them , if they treated her badly?
    The element that was missing from her allocution, most profoundly, was any respect for the judgement of the jury. Yet nowhere in her testimony did she refer to any other standard to which she held herself accountable. The most she could offer was that she didn’t want her family to be hurt by the jury’s choice of the DP. Twenty Minutes earlier, the judge had instructed the jury that Patty Womack was meant to testify to the abuse Jodi suffered in her childhood, but was not available. What is a juror to think- did her family abuse her, or are they so wonderful that they should be spared any more pain? And really, what did they have to do with it anyway???
    So many questions left unanswered.
    This whole thing came in with a bang ( no pun intended) and is going out with a whimper.
    There’s something the matter with this chick. She doesn’t have any original imagination, it’s all purloined. But she thinks highly enough of herself to imagine she’s qualified to teach, reading, writing, art and language. All with an education of a high-school dropout. My neighbor for 5 years held a Doctorate and she really did instruct Patricia Krenwinkle (one of C Manson’s brood) and other prisoners in the California Prison for Women. Just because one is convicted of Murder is not a considered credential for the position. Heaven help the prisoners that would be exposed to this demented mind.
    The most priceless thing to watch during her “alocution” ?? was the negative head shaking and eye rolling by Jodi’s own sister as she looked on in disbelief. Very telling indeed, when your own family hasn’t any faith in your words.
    I read this article trying to understand the empathy factor in people with Asperger’s, starting to understand what Rose and WG were saying, how this could be a factor, but not the whole big picture if it were coupled with another disorder. I about fell off my chair when I got to the last sentence in this post. Sound familiar. OMG, did she read this and put it in her power point?
    snips>
    Empathic ability comes in two forms. One is the social ability to recognize the emotion someone is feeling by following social cues, subtle vocal fluctuations, and other nonverbal communications. Psychopaths, for example, might be quite good at reading people, at applying this cognitive empathy and then possibly exploiting it. Autistic people, on the other hand, generally tend not to be that great at this kind of recognition in non-autistic people. After all, the hallmark of autism is difficulty navigating this territory and registering the meaning of a nonverbal language that is unfamiliar to them. Worth noting, non-autistic people also seem to struggle with reading the nonverbal communication of autistic people. It can also be difficult for autistic people to automatically place themselves situationally in the other person’s shoes and intuit the emotion the other person feels, although again, non-autistic people seem to struggle to do this for autistics. Autism does not, however, preclude a person from understanding a clear communication about emotion.
    The other form of empathy follows on the recognition of the emotion, whether the message comes through verbally or nonverbally, intuitively or not. That’s the form in which you not only can intellectualize the person’s emotion but also can internalize and feel what they are feeling, known as emotional empathy. The gap for psychopaths comes in here: They seem to lack this emotional empathy. But whatever deficits autism might carry in terms of recognition, it makes up for in terms of the shared feeling. My experience has been that once an autistic becomes aware of the other person’s emotion, the feeling comes without a social construct, naked and in full, unmodulated. Certainly, the expression of their feeling can be more intense. Research shows that people with Asperger’s are not that great at cognitive empathy but that their emotional empathy does not differ from people without Asperger’s, whereas children with conduct disorder show the reverse pattern.
    My 11-year-old son is diagnosed with Asperger’s, soon to be simply “autism,” thanks to impending changes in the DSM5. He is a rowdy giant of an 11-year-old who loves tumbling play with his brothers, but his spirit couldn’t be more gentle. ****************When he finds a spider in the house, he carefully gathers it in a tissue and places it outside, alive.**************
  35. GeorgiaDad says:
    The unspoken victims in DP cases are the convict’s family members. Can any of us as mothers, fathers, brothers, or sisters imagine what it is like to know, not only that your loved one is going to die, but to know a specific date? Even worse, on the day of her execution, to know that there will be large crowds gathered outside the prison to celebrate her death. JA’s family may be less than ideal. Her sister may have had drug issues, but apparently sought treatment, but it still comes up frequently on social media. Regardless of the jury verdict, no-one should celebrate her family’s grief and loss.
    That being said, JA did herself no favors. The only way I think she avoids the DP is if a few jurors decide she is a mentally unstable person and show mercy as a result.
  36. Duchess says:
    Here we go folks: now Jodi is throwing her attorneys under the bus.
    Snipped from Fox News:
    PHOENIX – In a surprise jailhouse interview just hours after a jury began deliberating her fate, Jodi Arias spoke out Tuesday about her murder trial, her many fights with her legal team and her belief that she “deserves a second chance at freedom someday.”
    Arias spoke to The Associated Press as part of a series of interviews with media outlets. She repeated many of her claims from previous interviews, testimony on the witness stand and her statements to the jury earlier Tuesday as she pleaded for mercy.
    But she provided some new information about her case and how she believed her lawyers let her down by not calling more witnesses who could have bolstered her claims that she was a victim of domestic violence at the hands of Travis Alexander.
    Arias was convicted last week of first-degree murder in the June 2008 stabbing and shooting death of her one-time lover in what prosecutors described as a cold, calculated killing carried out in a jealous rage. Arias has maintained all along it was self-defense.
    The jury began deliberating Tuesday as they worked to determine whether she should live or die for her crime. If the jury opts for a life sentence, the judge will have the option of determining whether she spends the rest of her days behind bars or is eligible for release after 25 years. Arias acknowledged it was unlikely she would ever be released, but believed she deserves a second chance.
    Following her conviction last week, she told a local TV station that she preferred the death penalty. She said Tuesday night that she changed her mind after a tearful meeting with family members that same day, realizing that her death would only cause them more pain.
    “I felt like by asking for death, it’s like asking for assisted suicide and I didn’t want to do that to my family,” she told the AP.
    Arias said she fought from the beginning to keep cameras out of the courtroom to limit the media spectacle, and believes that the jury should have been sequestered. She stated flatly that she did not receive a fair trial.
    “The prosecutor has accused me of wanting to be famous, which is not true,” she said.
    However, Arias has sought the spotlight at every turn, providing TV interviews and even using a third-party to tweet throughout the trial.
    Arias repeated her claims that she never wanted to go to trial in the first place but instead wanted to reach a deal with prosecutors on a second-degree murder count that would have carried a maximum of 22 years in prison. However, she said, “no deal was offered.”
    She gave the interviews Tuesday after the judge lifted an order barring jail officials from arranging any media requests. The judge did not elaborate on the reason for the ruling, but Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s office quickly began making the media arrangements that lasted late into the night.
    I love your site Blink,,, But, who are these people who talk in these abbreviations???not dual dx-pdp pos (not NOS),,,,quadruple dx- pd- nos??????I have one abbreviation for Rosea and hervness,,,, WTH?
    ~~~~~~~~~
    Hi Maxinme.
    Dx= diagnosis
    PD = personality disorder
    NOS = not otherwise specified
    BPD= Borderline Personality Disorder

    I do understand everyone trying to come up with some psychiatric explanation for why JA’s committed this vicious overkilling, but unless one has interviewed her face to face, it is impossible. So, we are left with the opinions of those who spent hours interviewing her AND reviewing her history for any signs of a mental disorder. Dr. Samuels diagnosed Arias with Personality Disorder: NOS; Dr. DeMarte chose Borderline PD. I suspect the truth lies somewhere in between, and she may not neatly fit in any diagnostic category. Going only by what I heard in testimony and her behavior in trial, I suspect Samuels likely found she has antisocial, borderline, narcissistic, and to a lesser degree, dependent traits. And, for good measure, we might want to stir in some eye of newt, toe of frog, and wool of bat. I think Blink mentioned that we won’t find what ails this girl in any DSM; this may indeed be true.

    During the trial, I did not hear any compelling evidence that she has ever suffered from an Axis I disorder (e.g., Major Depression, Schizoaffective Disorder, Bipolar, PTSD, Schizophrenia). If she had, believe me, the defense team would have been all over this. An Axis I diagnosis is usually considered to be a mitigating factor, Axis II traits can actually be seen by some jurors as aggravating (e.g., antisocial traits or disorder).

    Based on what her friends and Travis’ friends have said about her behavior, the testimony of her the defense and prosecution expert witnesses, and my own observations of her many interviews and testimony, I see no evidence of Asberger’s.

    Waiting to see what the jury decides…

    Thank you Grace.

    Great summary of JA’s twisted justification. You are spot on.

    @ Rose-
    I totally agree. The Alexander family probably will never be able to get some sort of peace only if JA receives the DP. Unfortunately, as blink mentioned above, with these interviews she continues to use as a mouth piece for her makebelieve abuse, she is furthering the trauma for the family by still, even post verdict dragging Travis through the mud. The DP will be the only muzzle to shut JA mouth up forever.

  43. Rose says:

    Grace, my only caveat would be these defense attorneys never arranged an inpatient screening for an Axis I disorder and wouldn ‘t know it if it hit them full in the face. Nor I think would they screen for cognitive disabilities or be able to interpret testing showing same.

    As long as Jodi has any access to people, as in general population, she will create problems. She will also continue to create problems for Travis’s family.

    Despite her speech to the jury yesterday, anything she participates in will be for Jodi’s benefit, not those she proposes to help.

    Giving the death penalty will prevent any of this regardless of the long time before the carrying out of the sentence.

  45. Survivor says:

    Just like cword, I am personally boycotting any and everything she has to say and any network or news outlet which provides the vehicle to publish her words and empty thoughts. Travis’ murder was not peaceful, his infinite rest should be.

    It’s a TRAVISty that she was able to hit the media circuit during jury deliberation. It’s irreverent on all levels.

    I have waivered between DP and life because I thought confinement for life would be a difficult sentence for her. I think I finally changed my mind. She will flourish in general population although I think her idyllic little world will turn out quite different from what she expects. I am leaning hard towards DP simply to keep her from being a rockstar and having some quiet time to reflect on her crimes committed.

    Personally, I think jury decided on death
    last nite & went home to sleep on it lest
    they appear mprudent or hasty.
    I think they’ll come in quickly today.

  47. Rose says:

    seeing her on interview & sitting in Court now, it’s clear the drugged
    up phase is history. just now she appears truly hyper, confabbing with attorneys.
    no good will come of it if life is result. Isn ‘t it extraordinary this Judge gave incomplete instructions re life?
    Judges get suggested instructions from attorneys.

    on interview Jodi carefully said her mother not
    going on stand was Nurmi’s decision, emphasized.
    appeal groundwork.

    I cannot effing believe this Judge makes that kind of error in this case, her first dp case.
    It is just inconceivable to me.
