Morgan Harrington Case: Lack Of Leads Frustrates Search Efforts

Posted by BOC Staff | Amy Melvin,Missing Persons,Morgan Harrington,Sara Snead | Tuesday 10 November 2009 12:41 pm

Charlottesville, VA– With Morgan’s disappearance entering it’s fourth week, an eagerly helpful public shows signs of frustration at the lack of information being clarified by both the Virginia State Police and the Harrington Family.

Morgalex

Dr. and Mrs. Harrington will be appearing on Dr. Phil tomorrow afternoon, but at press time there are no scheduled press conferences for them or for Corrine Geller, PIO for Virginia State Police.

Over the weekend, The search efforts coordinated by the Laura Recovery Center had as many as 1600 volunteers scouring the surrounding areas where she was last seen, with no results tied to Morgan’s disappearance or possible whereabouts. The areas designated had been searched previously at the direction of Charlottesville PD and VSP.

Was Morgan At The Concert

Although there are numerous alleged sightings of Morgan, some appearing to be credible, there is not a single image of her caught on camera at the John Paul Jones Arena.

How is it that Morgan goes through three seperate buildings and annexes, at least twice, multiple areas for re-entry, and not a single image of her exists? On the facebook created to help find Morgan, there are a growing number of associates beginning to doubt Morgan ever made the concert at all.

Ticket For Seat #312

Jpj

One of the quickest ways to tell if Morgan attended the concert with her friends would be for Dr. Harrington, the purchaser of the tickets, to review his account with livenation or ticketmaster, which utilize ticket return and request the scan data for all the tickets he purchased. This would reveal if the tickets were scanned and presented together as alleged by the friends.

According to the livenation policy, the ticket will only scan once at it’s original presentation, even if there is a duplicate bar code.

The timing on Morgan’s ticket scan is critical to the investigation into her disappearance, as is confirming her attendance in the first place. Could LE be looking in the wrong place?

What the Friends Know

The rumor mill has been buzzing non-stop about the possibility that Morgan’s friends may be the key to understanding what happened to her.

We know that Dr. Harrington was told by one of her friends that Morgan’ s car was NOT at JPJ arena. Following her disappearance, one of her friends, Amelia “Amy” Melvin, who was with her and Sarah Snead the evening of the concert had her myspace mood set as “I dont have time for myspace”. It has since been removed. There are numerous pictures of the friends at almost every outing they attend all over the web. Were there any taken that evening?

What She Was Wearing

Shirt

We have seen no less than 8 different Pantera tshirt styles on the FB site, and not a single confirmation from Police or the family as to what it actually looks like. No image of the black skirt or black boots to jog anyone’s memory from that night. WHY?

It was also stated that Morgan was wearing a “distinctive” gold knecklace that evening. Every pawn shop within a 60 mi radius should have been faxed a photo of it within 24 hours. Pawn shops are required to file certain sale reports that would definately list such an item if it had been sold. Has this been checked?

Inside Sources

Sources wishing to remain anonymous, have confirmed to blinkoncrime.com that LE is aware of a woman matching Morgan’s description was visibily intoxicated outside the JPJ arena and was seen dropping her purse and upset while talking on her cell phone. She allegedly engaged briefly with a few UVA basketball players as she was crossing the parking lot.

Why am I feeling like Charlottesville is the new Aruba?

One thing is clear. The fastest way to turn an active case cold is to frustrate the public with inconsistencies and unclear information.

Generating leads is the only way to keep Morgan’s case in the spotlight  and at this point it is this editors opinion there are some serious questions in need of answers in order to progress this case before it stalls.

Well I am way beyond this age, but concerts have been out tere forever. And usually I drove..my roomie was also my BFF..and no way I would have left a concert without her or her without me. I mean we did the spring break thing in Florida..we knew we could count on each other having our backs. And no way I ever would have given my keys to someone else…there was no reason, because when we were in a group what one was doing..well we all were doing. Somehow I think that still holds true today. Not buying the friend with the keys driving, leaving..too strange..especially without calling her family..unless they knew who she was meeting up with..or her friends are incredibly stupid. By the way I was in college in 1969-1973…so lots of things that are around today were in their infancy then..we still knew to keep track of each other.

Just can’t imagine that her firends don’t know exactly what happened that night..not buying she is not able to get back into the concert and they left her there. They know more..and there are pics somewhere..is the pert on the pics?

  3. Debidoll129 says:

Post #49..well I think this says a lot about how she really felt about seeing the concert..perhaps she never intended to go to the concert.maybe just an escape for the parents sake..possible meeting a guy was her plan..Or a party someplace on the way to the concert..or they went someplace totally different….many times as a teen I put other clothes in my backpack, went out and changed my clothes to go someplace my parents would not of allowed..was Morgan under the rules of her parents house?

  4. Debidoll129 says:

Are we sure these two friends were not jealous of Morgan instead of having her back?

Blink – When do you ever have time to put on your fuzzy slippers and relax?

For discussion purposes, let’s just say Morgan was at the concert, could not get back in, and began to walk….:

Question: In the timeline pic you posted on your earlier thread
    http://blinkoncrime.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/uvcampus2.jpg
have you or any of your wonderful team ever sat down and determined if these are even plausible times as they relate to actual walking distance…at night…by Morgan?

Going back to view this image, things always look so small and close to each other when they are in an aerial view format. But when you are actually on the ground, they are much farther in distance. I am just curious as to an actual ground map where one can measure an actual distance in “ft.” and then determine if a person could make that walk in the amount of time the police have listed (give or take a few minutes of some stating she had a brief encounter with some people, etc.).

    Pam-
great question. Yes, it is plausible. We have a geospatial analyst “in the tank” that was the first thing we looked at.
We also believe that LE has stopped short of saying the power was REMOVED from Morgan’s phone at 9:30PM, but they most certainly would know.

    Just throwing this out there….
Maybe Morgan never intended to go to the concert with her friends. Maybe her plan was to take off from her friends house and start new with someone leaving her friends her car and purse with phone. She would have had a day headstart.

Debidoll129- Sorry didn’t see your post earlier I agree that this scenario is the only one I can think of at this point, where foul play is not involved in Morgan’s disappearance.

-This articles’ theory is interesting and plausible. Morgan’s ticket being proven as used does not mean she was the one that actually used it, unless some form of ID had to be presented, which would have been contained in her purse, which was eventually found some time the next morning. Was the battery kept initially to show ping movement to and at the concert, but removed once it served it’s purpose? Was Morgan the one to actually use her own phone to text the Don’t worry, getting a ride with friends?-

I agree someone else could have used the ticket. Very interesting theory about the ping movement. Your right, there is no way to tell if she herself wrote that text message. Great points.

Agreed the $ biggest points of ponder in the ticket scan:

    1) WAS her ticket scanned?
    2) WAS it scanned in succession with her friends?
    3) WAS it scanned and rejected in an attempt to return to the Venue?
    4) WAS it scanned after 8:48PM
I cant help but feeling this is the easiest piece of this puzzle and yet, N O T H I N G.

Has anyone thought to create a web page for the fans that attended this concert? They could offer so much information and ping off each other.

Were there in chair seats only or grass seating also?
Did they serve beer and have a beer garden?
Was/if the beer garden next to the porta-potties?
How far was the entry gate from the sale of beer/or wine?

    General age of fans?
    Were drugs passed around?
How many single tickets were sold?
    Who bought those single tickets?
Did Morgan want to get closer to the band?
What kind of parking lot? RV? Campers? Outside drinking?
    Talegate parties?

Just my thoughts..I go to a lot of concerts, the first thing I do is look for the exit sign if indoors, then notice the age group, look for the restrooms. Notice how many people are drinking, so I can get intouch with the drunks and do I want to drive home or stay in a motel?

Do we know whether the only texting Morgan’s phone did that evening was to that boy in another town (wherever that is and whomever he is)? She actually had a PHONE CONVERSATION with her friends when she was locked out of the arena, yes? Voice rather than text, I mean. (though of course, they could have easily called themselves from her phone).

    Weird.

Hey, are the friends lawyered up, or is that just a rumor?

    Unconfirmed, yes, one.

I concur Blink. Your comments regarding # 59 are spot on. Aren’t the answers to these questions pertinent to finding Morgan? Why hasn’t there been an update as to whether or not her ticket was scanned at what time and if twice or at the same time as her friends. At least then everyone could start looking in the right direction.
Do we know for sure her friends tickets were scanned?

#59 Blink’s response: How does one politely ask LE if they have had her ticket scanned for entry verification?

#62 Debidoll129 – October 18 – At the Charlotte Bobcats Arena in Charlotte, NC. Next Oct. 26&27 on to Toronto Canada. Lamb of God and Gojira were their opening acts, but Gojira’s last gig with them was on Oct. 18 in NC. Gojira could not continue on with the rest of the Metallica tour and has been replaced on that tour with a band by the name of Volbeat. Here’s a link that may be helpful:

  25. PamTX says:

Ok, I have taken a serious look at a statement by Lt. Joe Raider of the Virginia State Police during a Jane Velez-Mitchell show that aired on October 21, 2009:

“RAIDER: Whether or not the battery is missing from the cell phone may at some point be pertinent. But in this particular situation, based on interviews we have conducted, it would not be unusual for this particular incident, that the battery have dropped out of the cell phone.”
    http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0910/21/ijvm.01.html

“would not be unusual for this particular incident” …… what particular incident is he talking about? I think it’s time for the local’s in this area to start demanding some answers and pushing for another news conference and then the media in that area need to be asking some serious questions publically. IMO, of course

“May at some point be pertinent” to me means “may be pertinent when we have a suspect” or “may be pertinent when our subpoena is returned answered and we know exactly when it was removed, and if the phone was reset prior to it’s removal.”

Ok, stating the obvious, I know, but if the battery dropped out of the phone, prior to a confirmed sighting ( because it would have had to or a witness sees her talking on a battery-less phone??) wouldn’t it have had to be found in the purse with the phone, assuming he is indicating the dropping caused the removal?

This would have been a good time for a “We do not know yet ” response, imo.

THE FRIENDS! THE FRIENDS! Why no surviellance video of the friends? Is someone, somewhere in Security or on the “inside” to be able to delete any video? Or, as has been noted—appears as if now Morgan OR HER FRIENDS ever made it in? The possible eyewitness scenario that a young woman fitting her description who was under the influence is also troubling as perfectly decent teenagers and young adults always leave themselves vulernable when partying and partaking in drugs and alcohol. Knowingly or unknowingly—yes, it is scary like what happened to NH in Aruba. Only—this is United States. While we certainly have plenty of corruption within our own Legal system and LE, please Lord—I just pray this is not the case here. …So very sad bc I don’t believe Morgan is still with us. Praying that is not the case….

    =(

Great article Blink…and have to admit—all the different possible scenarios really run through the mind at present. Who took this beautiful young lady? No one is talking. My hope and prayer for this family is that something breaks soon and this does NOT become yet another unsolved missing persons case.

There’s MUCH more to this than what we know. Neither Morgan nor friends are picked up by cameras? Awfulness is going on here.

I don’t want to put blame on anyone yet, but from what I’ve seen; there’s something in the eyes of everyone involved in this case: Morgan, friends, her parents… I just can’t put my finger on it.

  28. gotoutofpcity says:

“I will tear apart this world to find Morgan and get this guy”.

This was a quote from morgan’s mom on their blog site. Is this a slip of the tongue (or keys) on her part? Is there really a particular “guy” in question? Or was it just kind of a frustration statement?

It is my opinion there is definately a “particular guy”. I am also of the opinion his alibi checks out, for now.

  29. chitown lady says:

Gee, why would you need a lawyer if yeah had nothing to hide? Im sorry but as the mother of a 21 year old daughter, I would be bitch slapping these so called girl friends around. PERIOD! Im gonna stop short of saying someone is not telling the WHOLE truth here. None of what these “friends” are saying makes any sense. The answers lie in if the tickets were even scanned. And scanned in the order of the friends. Morgan appeared very attached to her mom and dad and had a great relationship with them. Her just going off and starting over? NO WAY JOSE! But then do parents really really know what their own kids are up to these days? Scary thought ! These so called friends have alot more to say. They need to really come clean with EVERYTHING. If they were Morgan’s friends, why hold back the truth or any kind of “REAL’ information. Answers are still in her so called friends heads…..

  30. smythe says:

I have to agree with those who are suspicious of these friends. I mean really-
1-girls learn at a very young age to hit the ladies room together- and we continue to do so well into our golden years!
2-if my friend was stuck outside I would have went to see if I could help get her back in
3-girls take pictures at every event- especially girls with FB or MYspace pages! If Morgan spent so much time picking out an outfit for this concert- this was a huge event for her…yet there are no pictures! I don’t buy it.
4- Never in a million years would I have taken “don’t worry I’ll get a ride back” as a reasonable solution…especially if I had her car keys! DUH! At least go down and give her her own keys so she can stay warm and dry!!

  31. Cville Girl says:

Blink, glad to see you’ve got an inside source with LE on this. So, since you know about her encounter with the basketball players, I am assuming you also know of the nature of the encounters and if so, does that change your opinion? Do you still think LE or security is involved in her disappearance?

Yes, LE is withholding information, as they always do in an investigation. Some of the things they are not revealing are due to the fact that they do not wish public opinion to turn against her and affect the search efforts.

Well, good question. I take that information like everything else that is hearsay. Nobody knows for sure it was Morgan. There are 3 other sightings in different areas or towns, what would make one more credible than the other? There is a credible witness that states he saw the group enter the arena and then the “3″ of them leave after the concert without Morgan and during his conversation with her, saw no sign she was intoxicated. Personally, I believe Morgan was impaired, I don’t care.

Morgan Harrington could be anyone one of us that got sauced at a concert at 20, I have 2 nieces her age in school that look just like her, does that mean it’s ok to be a victim? Of course not.

I sincerely believe people would be just as willing to help search efforts regardless. It’s when people think they are not being told the truth that they consider perhaps their energies could be better spent on a case where they can make a difference and Morgan’s case loses momentum. Information about the scanning of the tickets is critical to refocus direction in this case.

At this point, my theory and profile has not changed. Although, I am more inclined to believe the connection originates at VT, not UVA or JMU.

    B

  32. suz says:

Well, IF she was slightly impaired to the point that she was seen stumbling and dropping her purse, I can see how the battery could have popped out of the phone when she dropped it, and as she swept the contents of the spilled purse back inside (maybe for the umpteenth time), just missed the battery. But then…where is the battery? No one ever found it during the official searches, and unless a concert-goer or someone picked it up and then never heard about DH going missing and its relevance to this case, thought nothing of it. Hmmmm.

Blink, do we know if the battery cover was still on the phone (had it been put back in place sans battery? Was it loose in the purse? Was it never recovered?)

SIM card? Does the phone have one? Was it there?

  33. mynamehere says:

Maybe the guy she was talking w/ has an alibi in the form of pings from his phone, but maybe he didn’t have his phone. Maybe someone else was texting Morgan from his phone at another location. I firmly believe Morgan’s abduction took more than one person. I can’t fathom how he could get her out of the concert though. She would have known she had no re-admittance, and if he texted to her that he was outside the arena, he wouldn’t have an alibi. The texts would be able to be retrieved by LE. Abducting a person from a family w/ money and means is ballsy since it will be all over the media. Cameras present and friends and potential witnesses nearby make this so risky. A perp doesn’t want high risk. How did he mitigate his risk? Insider help and a whole lot of planning. I mean if he really wanted to abduct her easily, why not at some other opportunity? With what we know, I just don’t believe this could be random. Sadly, I think this needed the cooperation of an insider close to Morgan or at the arena. If it were at the arena, then perhaps a new hire.

  34. SuzeeB says:

Blink do you know the extent of the text messages back and forth with the friends. There has to be more than morgan just cant get back in and enjoy the concert and she will find a ride home. Did they offer her different options like someone would bring the keys to the car or someone would come and wait in the car with her or someone would come down and talk to security or someone would at least try. Or how about well text us back and let us know you have a confirmed ride and with who. Anything more at all. There has to be more. How about simply I am sorry Morgan, I feel so bad you cant get back in anything that points that at least the friends sounded concerned and felt bad about the situation.

    There has to be more.

  35. sweetpea says:

    Smythe-
I am in total agreement! I have gone to more concerts then I care to admit in my lifetime. Mostly with a group of girlfriends.

    1. We would begin taking pictures of each other before we even got in the car to go to the concert. A main part of going to a concert are the pic’s as proof you were there and now add cell phones, myspace, facebook, ect. WITHOUT QUESTION!

    2. In addition to the fact that girls go to the bathroom in pairs or more. That is also part of the experience, especially with assigned seating. It is the only way to be SCENE (why else would she be so concerned about what she was going to wear) and check out who else is there. No way she went to the bathroom alone.

    3. I question the fact of her meeting someone. You buy tickets for a concert way in advance. A planned all girl night out to a concert date, it would have had to be Brad Pitt, before I would punk out on my friends, and even then they would never allow it!

This story doesn’t hold water. Girls run in packs, they are not loners. LE need to put lie detectors on these girls

  36. sweetpea says:

    One more thing.

If these are assigned seating tickets, wouldn’t there be records of who had the adjacent seats?

If Morgan was meeting someone, did he have a seat next to the girls?

  37. chad says:

This is my first time posting here. I have been following this case since it broke. It seems there has been a lot of focus and discussions on the cell phone. Blink, do you know, has LE checked out the phone records of the “friends” cell phones the night of? Certainly, if they were concerned about Morgan they would have attempted to contact her from their cell phone, either by texting, or calling throughout the night and next day on etc….. Everyone has an outgoing call log. There also has to be voice mails as well on Morgans phone if the friends were concerned, whether the battery was in the phone or not the service still works.

  38. suz says:

Prolly just me, but if I were locked out of a concert, and for some reason unable to get a ticket to get back in (despite a box office and i imagine, scalpers), if I really liked the music, I’d hang around outside and listen. These things are so loud you can generally hear them from outside to some extent. Then I’d catch up with my friends afterwards and have a great story to tell about how I tried to go to the concert and it all went hilariously wrong.

Did the dad buy 9 tickets? Were all of ‘em used?

  39. sweetpea says:

    Sorry had another thought,

If witnesses did see Morgan and she was intoxicated to the point that she was stumbling and dropping things. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I would like to take a look at those text messages.

I can barely get through a message without hitting wrong letters and making corrections sober.

  40. TOY says:

Other than the possibility that she never attended the concert in the first place, the most plausible theory I’ve read (SM, I think) is that possibly she was so wasted that she was escorted out. I have no idea if security would do that but it sounded reasonable if it would have prevented a major scene. Do security guards have to report such things if they do bounce someone out of the venue?

From all I’ve read about Morgan, she seems like a really great young woman who may have gotten in over her head with whatever was her vice that evening. Either alcohol or drugs (whether by her choice or given to her without her knowledge) seems to have impaired her normal good sense. Personally, I think the theories that “Morgan never would have done that” probably need to be overridden with the assumption that she was not acting within normal parameters.

It certainly sounds as though she was under the influence of something and because of that she needed friends who would act as her guardian angels while she was so “out of it.” I agree with so many above who have in some way emphasized “friends do not let friends…”

I whole heartily agree. I find myself wondering if I should wait to react to this disappearance not because Morgan went to a metal concert dressed in what some would say is to little, not because she may have been drunk or stoned but because the information that has been released seems so wrong and no one can definitively state that Morgan, her car or her friends were even at the concert. Also, because they have not released who she was texting during the concert- After all her friends and Morgan’s actions are under scrutiny why shouldn’t his be as well?

I mean come on who are they really trying to protect here? I think Morgan’s safety is more important than whether or not she was stoned or left with a guy. Or what ever the case may be. Now’s not the time to protect her from people’s badmouthing. Nor is it time to treat her friends story as definitive proof that just because they were friends from childhood they had Morgan’s best interests at heart. Maybe they themselves were to stoned or drunk to care where Morgan was at the time. Maybe, they can’t even remember what the truth is.

Hi, Blink! I’ve been a reluctantly sidelined reader looking after family and missing more reading time at your blog. After first reading and posting here, I described your efforts as “brains with heart.” :) With all due respect to Morgan, her family and all investigative authority working this case, I find your questions logical and necessary for filling in the unknown spaces surrounding the timeline. I’ve been most perplexed by the issues surrounding Morgan’s car and can’t understand why she was unable to access her car, if she could not re-enter the arena. This is so tragic and like everyone else I want to see her returned safely to her family. I’ll be reading here to keep up with your work, your team and all thoughtful readers.

Is there any prove at all that she’s been at the concert?(do tickets have code bars to avoid duplication?)is there a time established about when she left, any video cams proving it?
I’m really sorry, if you’ve been asked this a hundred times already…
    thanx

    Blink,
You posted this to #55 ” We also believe that LE has stopped short of saying the power was REMOVED from Morgan’s phone at 9:30PM, but they most certainly would know.”

I wonder if the battery removed and the back cover placed back on the phone or if the entire back was gone. May indicate a struggle if all was gone, but a planned removal if the back plate was put over a removed battery.

There have been some good points made. I think the fact that they were so excited about the concert and no pictures were taken is very weird.
The face book and my space pages being deleted. Weird. You would think if something happened on the way drug related the friends would come clean as it would not be their fault. I’m sure the police have checked Morgan’s computer to see if maybe she had met someone on line and was meeting them there. Maybe she thought they had a ticket and actually they wanted to abduct her???? At one point I heard that she was arguing with someone on the phone? Maybe she threw it down and the battery came out and she just picked up the phone. I hope the details come out soon and pray for a good outcome.

Another thing that I don’t understand is the significance of the missing battery. Other then she may have dropped the phone and it broke open.

If someone was smart enough to remove the battery to cover their tracks, I would think they would go one step further and remove the sim card??? Has it been established that the sim card was still in the phone or not???

Since the purse and phone was found together abandon, I don’t see how pings would help anything if the phone was no longer with the person.

Also, was the purse found in the bushes or was it just out in the open? With thousands of people leaving a concert, seems rather odd that a purse full of personal items would not have been spotted or picked up until the next day.

Agreed, but it is my understanding Morgan’s phone did not contain or have the capacity to contain a SIM card

So Blink, what about the people infront, behind and to the side of these seats?
Who were they? Was there a general admit area? Did they move down to the front into the crowd?

Could she of gone off with the Rodie’s? I was watching a couple of Youtube video’s that show mutiple blond girls walking around in the back room..one that hangs on the door frame for the intire video..she looks like a Morgan..

I linked a kid that was on the views, that stated his mother drove him around the arena because he did not have a ticket..many people do not even know this story…My partner had never heard of Casey Anthony until recently..there is not enough out there to tell the general public to help..look at Brittney in NC..now nothing.
