Morgan Harrington Case: State Police Say She Was Hitchhiking

Posted by BOC Staff | Missing Persons,Morgan Harrington | Friday 13 November 2009 2:31 pm

Charlottesville, VA– In the latest release from Corrine Geller, spokesperson for the Virginia State Police, it has been confirmed that the VSP have independent accounts of Morgan Harrington hitchhiking on the Copley Bridge.

Also in the latest release, is a picture of the Swarovski necklace she was wearing.

Swarovski knecklace

Virginia State Police are also asking if anyone loaned their cell phone to Morgan that evening.

“Anyone who might remember seeing a vehicle randomly stopped in the roadway on Copeley Road bridge that night is also asked to contact investigators,” the release said. “Investigators are also hoping to hear from anyone who might have loaned their cell phone to a young woman fitting Miss Harrington’s description to make a call that night.

“We don’t have any evidence she made other calls,” Geller says, “but we’d like to know.”

Also confirmed, as reported exclusively on blinkoncrime.com; The last people to interact with Morgan Harrington were players from the UVA Men’s basketball team.

According to several sources, members of UVA’s men’s basketball team were among the last to see Harrington in the grassy, tree-shrouded parking area. Emails sent to numerous team members were forwarded to UVA spokesperson Carol Wood, who directed the inquiry to State Police, but Geller declines comment on the identity of any witnesses.

“We leave it to them whether they want to speak publicly,” she says.

The Full News Release From VSP:

STATE AND LOCAL POLICE STILL SEEK PUBLIC’S AID IN LOCATING MORGAN HARRINGTON

RICHMOND – As the search and investigative efforts continue for missing college student Morgan Harrington, state and local investigators are now able to release additional details concerning the night of her disappearance. Miss Harrington disappeared Oct. 17, 2009, during a Metallica concert at the John Paul Jones Arena on the University of Virginia (UVA) campus in Charlottesville, Va.

During the course of the investigation, police have been able to establish a timeline of Miss Harrington’s movements once she ended up outside of the arena at approximately 8:30 p.m. After talking to her friends on her cell phone, she then walked through the parking lot of University Hall and was also seen in the Lannigan Field athlete parking lot, which is also used for RV parking. At around 9:30 p.m., she was seen walking on the Copeley Road bridge near Ivy Road.

Based on independent witness accounts, investigators are confident that Miss Harrington was hitchhiking for a ride while on the Copeley Road bridge. If anyone recalls seeing a young woman hitchhiking that night on or near the Copeley Road bridge, then they are asked to please contact police by phone or email. Anyone who might remember seeing a vehicle randomly stopped in the roadway on Copeley Road bridge that night is also asked to contact investigators. Investigators are also hoping to hear from anyone who might have loaned their cell phone to a young woman fitting Miss Harrington’s description to make a call that night.

In addition to Miss Harrington’s black T-shirt with the word “Pantera” spelled out in tan letters, black mini-skirt, black tights, and knee-high black boots, she was wearing a distinctive necklace. It is a Swarovski Crystal necklace made up of large crystal chain links. She is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs approximately 120 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes.

The search and investigation are still being actively pursued by Virginia State Police, University of Virginia Police, Charlottesville Police, Albemarle County Police and the FBI. The public has generated close to 400 leads in the case. Anyone can call the Virginia State Police Tip Line at (434) 352-3467 or email State Police at bci-appomattox@vsp.virginia.gov. UVA Police can be reached at (434) 924-7166. Anonymous tips are welcome.

Also accepting tips is the Jefferson Area Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000. A reward of $150,041 is available for information that leads to the location and recovery of Miss Harrington.

I DO NOT believe for one minute that Morgan was hitchhiking! Something is fishy here. After all, the athletic programs generate millions of dollars for the school. I have seen what the players at VT get away with and I am sure UVA is protecting the money generator in the schools athletic program. I am so mad. I hope LE has a reason for this press release- maybe to throw someone off that they are onto them? If I were the Harrington’s I would be very upset. No, Morgan was smarter that that. I would be demanding a polygraph test for those players!!! You were really given a rough time on “The Sabre” web site Blink, some people are very mad that their precious basketball team was being discussed. I feel so bad about this for the Harrington’s, but Gil looks like she is a fighter and will not take this case going unsolved!

  2. Moonchime says:

I’ve been following this story since I first heard that Morgan Harrington was missing. I grew up in Roanoke and have fond memories of the town.

This is my first post here–and I just have to say this–NO WAY would MH have been hitch hiking!!!! No way!!! A person would never leave their car behind when she could have asked her “friends” to hand her the keys.

Also, — if she just hitch hiked off into the night, how in the world do they (LE) fit the purse and cellphone being left behind, into this all too convenient scenerio????

  3. wpgmouse says:

“Remember “Dee” who came forward. She leaves the arena about the time that Morgan would have been last seen and in the footage it said she was being aggressively escorted by 3 males- Did she get booted and that’s who was seen on the bridge? The same woman seen by the paper lady?
    B”

    Blink,

Just to clarify, would the area at the beginning of the bridge signify the end of the JPJ Arena property? Meaning once an individual is “legally escorted” off the premises, so ends the “legal” capacity of the escorter?

If, and I say if this was Morgan, I could imagine her beginning to cross the bridge but agitated enough to believe she was unjustly treated, turning around and heading back to confront the injustice.

Hitchhiking? Not to keen on that. And Blink, I completely identify with you teasingly sticking your thumb out to your parents in younger years when they came to pick you up. I did the same, and if I recall there was not much laughter on the other end. While I never hitchhiked and did understand the dangers, my parents felt the need to remind even though I made light of it with my stuck out thumb.

Having said that, the only way I would feel safe about getting into a car driven other than a family member or close friends, would be that of a LE car, especially if I was distressed in any way. Maybe another female would feel okay in a security-type vehicle like arena security, or parking security, or park/forest security. Maybe even a limo or a personal limo, if they knew the driver or the passenger(s) in the back (perhaps the passenger is someone of status).

PamTX talked about the ability to subdue. There are several types of vehicles equipped with driver/single person controlled exiting of or containment within the vehicle for its “passengers”, and with some level of soundproofing to the vehicle as well.
LE, security, limos (and perhaps taxis) included.

I am irked by the “hunting season” comments. Perhaps this person is a hunter but with a wide scope. Sickening, but this is not unheard of, and had crossed my mind regarding the August tragedy.

Sorry for all the different thoughts and directions, Blink.

  4. Word Girl says:

I can understand some benign fishing in order to bar the doors, prior to an arrest, but when they victimize the victim by stating that she definitely was hitchhiking, they’ve gone too far. There is no way that girl was hitchhiking. Insert our favorite, “Hell to the No” here.

I’ve seen athletic departments clam up tight on very serious cases. I edited my college paper and when our baseball van caused a fatal accident, there was a flurry of bs, and then silence.
Once again, not insinuating athletes were involved, but would like to chasten them to speak.

O let me share with you my first words when I was working on this yesterday, and again, no allegation, I am just being honest.

“All we need now is a pinball machine and a back room and we have ourselves an explanation.”

I pray this is not headed there, I dont think the Harrington’s would stand for that, no sir.

Morgan lived 2 1/2 hours from the concert. Her friend at James Madison, who was in her carr lived, 1 hour from the concert.
Who really thinks to hitchhike that distance.
2 1/2 hours is Philly to DC and that is all on a huge interstate I95.

Blacksburg, VA(VA Tech, Morgan and Amy Melvin) to James Madison University(other girlfriend) 133 miles ~2 hrs
Then another 60 miles`1 hour to Charlottesville, VA(U of VA, Concert)

Here is a google map of all three locations

  6. gotoutofpcity says:

I’ve worked in the bar business my whole adult life, and have seen drunks do weird things, but nothing like this. First of all, she could have been drunk, but not too incredibly drunk because she was able to walk a significant distance. She can’t weigh more than 110 pounds so if she was ridiculously hammered, she would have been incapacitated and on the ground. So since she was coherent enough to walk around and interact with people, THERE IS NO WAY she would have chosen the option of hitchhiking, leaving her friends and HER OWN car in the parking lot that she could have just sat in.

  7. blue says:

Her trail goes cold around the time she is talking to the basketball players and her purse is found in the area where she was last seen talking to them. The implication is damning.

Naturally, that implication is that she was hitchhiking.

    (/sarcasm)

All – there may be a lot of wishful thinking going on around the Univ, but I don’t believe there is a coverup. The VSP, City Police, County Police, and FBI are involved in this case, and they are interested in finding Morgan, not in protecting the U and its basketball program. I am also suspicious of even the apparently verified Morgan sightings, unless they have some impeccable witnesses who heard her introduce herself by name. I don’t know why information from the police is getting out so painfully slowly. I want answers, but I’m sure they are trying to be sure they don’t jeopardize their case or information that they may need in court.

I have learned a lot from this sight – still trying to understand some of your comments & how you are able to intuit so well from the information you’re seeing (and I don’t understand the pinball machine reference :) ) but oy, am I learning. Thank you so much.

Well I don’t think there is an attempt to cover up so much as there is one to mitigate, if that makes sense.
I am also very sensitive to the fact it can be daunting to decide what to release on behalf of LE, and I support that in most instances. I admit for me the priority is always to find the victim at all costs first- Peace for the family and preservation of evidence.

  10. tmom says:

Not buying the most recent statement! Where is the proof Morgan was on the bridge and that she was hitchhiking–the word of someone else? We are aware of another girl that was mistaken for Morgan. There has to be more information that could be released without jeopardizing the investigation, release it already! I pray that LE is strategically releasing this type of information for a reason!

it looks like it’s starting to unfold. i never did like these kinds of forums with missing people, they always seem to come back to the victim, and a lot of times people tend to forget they’re victims, and the families are the ones suffering. never stop being there for them and protecting them. i feel that suffering every day with my own endeavors. i don’t usually/never frequent the forums. i must say you’re running a nicely protected one. glad i found your site. May some peace come to the Harringtonn family and friends soon.

  14. Eli B. says:

I’ve thought about this all day. No way was she hitchhiking. How easy would it be for the last people to see her to say ‘I guess she hitchhiked home’ and then that was taken as plausible? Also, the people who say they saw her on the bridge saw her from a car (right?), which is different than walking past her and seeing her. Could have even been a different person.

  15. Tobias Gregson says:

I’m new to this site and I’ve only recently been following the case. I agree that there is something very strange going on here but I don’t like the basketball players for this crime. For one thing, the players would have had to use force to get her to drop her purse. Three very tall, black men will stand out in a Metallica concert crowd and I don’t see how they forcibly get her out of the lot area without attracting attention. Any type of crime involving the players likely would not have been premeditated and, therefore, I think it would be hard to cover up. I suppose they could have persuaded her to come with them, committed a crime, and dropped the purse off later but, again, these guys would attract attention simply walking down the street. Then you have the question of how they disposed of the body.

In my experience, concerts attract all sorts of odd folks who hang around in parking lots and other areas close to the venue. They could be drug dealers, groupies, wanna-be musicians or writers, and much worse. If she stopped to talk to basketball players with whom she would presumably have very little in common (Pantera fans and hoops players don’t generally hang in the same circles) who else might she have talked to?

  16. Eli B. says:

But Tobias, that was the player parking lot, she was walked to the lot by the players, and she talked to the players IN the lot, and those were the last people to see her. I’m not saying the players are the abductors, I’m saying they were awfully close to whatever happened, even if not on purpose.

  17. suz says:

M., I think the pinball machine reference is to a movie called “The Accused” (based on a true story) featuring a graphic and extremely disturbing gang rape of a woman (played by Jodie Foster) on a pinball machine in a bar while other drunks cheer it on. Saw it twenty one years ago, but that horrific scene has stayed with me. Sickening.

  18. Mandy says:

Has anyone heard the Harringtons position on this? I was pretty sure yesterday on Dr. Phil her father said something about her not being the type to take rides from strangers but my munchkins were being rowdy during my attempt to watch so I am not 100% on that.

I have a great deal of respect and admiration for the Harringtons. They knew their daughter better than any of us, but until I hear they are behind the hitchhiking theory, I am not swallowing it. No one hitchhikes anymore. Morgan’s generation grew up being spoon-fed stranger danger with all the problems the internet introduced to young society. How stupid do they think the public is? To me, this is just a plausible as a release stating they are closing in on the aliens that abducted her.

They are NOT behind that theory. Dr. Harrington shot it down himself.

  19. chad says:

It’s pretty clear that there is a devoted crowd here dedicated to finding Morgan. Whether we know Morgan or not, live in VA or not, we have all been touched by this case, and we all are just hoping for some type of break in this case! This is why so many people are posting! This is crazy not having any information at all for the family, or even any clues…….something is very wrong. Unless of course they are withholding information whaich has been suggested. Maybe we all do know Morgan, she could be our daughter, our next door neighbor, our neice, even a sister or friend. Blink is right, Morgan should come first before any type of cover up, (if there is one) or any politics. This is upsetting to hear of the new “hitch hiking” spin. She wasn’t, and this IS probably what the BB players told police.
    Come on VSP…….bring Morgan home!
Also, I think that the question Corrine asking the public if Morgan asked to use anyones cell phone after 9:30, that clearly indicates she (Morgan) did indeed phone someone from someone elses phone, and they may have gotten a hold of POI cell phone records.

#59 – The Accused w/Jodi Foster (Pinball machine in back room)

And I suppose the suspect that picked up the “hitchiker” dropped her purse in the field? Wait!! Isn’t that where the UVA BB players last saw her?? And they did they did leave in their cars (hmmm). Maybe she was on the bridge…..maybe she did get a ride… Ahem. I know..I know….pure speculation.

I am already sorry I put that out there as a first thought. I was just being honest with my readers. I am not getting past the purse where it is found either.

  21. Ragdoll says:

What I’m struggling with is Morgan hitch hiking! She comes from a loving family. Obviously, this is something she knew was not in her best interest. I’m trying to put myself in Morgan’s position. Was she feeling vulnerable enough to believe that being picked up would be the lesser of the 2 evils? I’m implying, was she trying to avoid a a dangerous situation just to jump into another even deeper?

Morgan is a smart girl. I cannot imagine she’d hitch hike by choice.

  22. Kelly says:

It may not have been them, however….it almost always seems (in so many other cases), that things usually lead back to the last person/s who saw “them”. Whether or not you put it out there…the Harrington’s have a right to know. I would want to know.

PS. Just purchased a book you mentioned “The Gift of Fear” for my daughter (and son). I was raised with the gift of fear from my parents. My intuition has served me well! Thank you for the mention.

    And we appreciate your honesty!!

    Kelly- great gift!

You need to get angry now, Dr. Harrington, before it is too late.

  24. Ragdoll says:

I always READ Blink’s article before reading the comments. I see #68 addressed this already. the Harringtons have thrown down the hitch hiking theory. If I were them, I would be of their mind set too. I know my children would NOT even consider it as a means of simple transportation. BUT we really don’t know what Morgan was being confronted with. I can’t help but think she was in some kind of trouble and looking for help. Maybe not hitch hiking but waving for help from a passer by??????

  25. wpgmouse says:

from Chad, snipped “Also, I think that the question Corrine asking the public if Morgan asked to use anyones cell phone after 9:30, that clearly indicates she (Morgan) did indeed phone someone from someone elses phone, and they may have gotten a hold of POI cell phone records.”

    Chad,

Why does Morgan asking to use someone else’s cell phone have to be
    “after 9:30″?

  26. susanm says:

maybe, she entered some part of the building for a short time ,or not, used someones phone outside,or inside, then more intoxication comes on,more stumbling to the point of being convinced into a ride(insisting for her own good) somewhere, as they exit she’s stumbling, resisting, arguing,no,as per grandma, drops hers purse, perp is not aware or not immediatly aware, but cant trace back to the purse so leaves it .

  27. Kelly says:

    #74 –

I think it was bcuz her phone was considered dead at that point.

  28. Ragdoll says:

Gypsy, you are right! I’m mortified her friends haven’t stepped up to talk about this, defend her character and her state of mind the night of the concert.

  29. Tobias Gregson says:

Eli B. – they might have been close in time to what happened but I have trouble believing that three people who would stand out in any crowd would be able to pull off an unpremeditated crime close to witnesses, effectively dispose of a body, and successfully conspire to keep their mouths shut about it. I think that she probably talked to a lot of people (including the wrong person) but these guys stood out.

I’ve read through most of the threads but not all of them so I’m asking the following (somewhat obvious) question: has LE looked at very minor crimes/incidents committed in the Charlottesville area that night whether or not they were committed in close proximity to the concert? I’m referring to trespassing, small-time drug dealing/possession, moving violations, vandalism. It’s often the very minor crimes that lead LE to uncover the big ones. The people who go around looking to cause trouble mostly do little things but sometimes they take advantage of situations that lead to big trouble. That’s my guess about what happened here, for what it’s worth.

  30. Chad says:

    wpgmouse

In the press release Corrine mentions (poses) “3 new” questions if you may, to the public. I do not think she would mention these if they were not considered important to the investigation. She mentions and describes the necklace, “the “hitch hicking” proposed theory, and also invites the question if “anyone had been asked by Morgan, or a similar person with Morgans description, to use their cell phone.” I was a Psych major in college. One must always go to the motive? Why??? Right? Why would she put these 3 things out there now? The hitch hiking thoery may or may not be part of the “cover up” if there is one, but these other 2 items discussed today are not. These are facts. The necklace, and the question of the use of other cell phones.
Mouse, it has been qwell documented all communication ended after 9:30? This is why I state that. Maybe I need to think outside of the box??
However, you pose an interesting question? Perhaps she made a call from someone elses phone prior to 9:30?
Let me ask you….what do you think?
Trying to still work….LOL….don’t let work interfere with blink!

  31. LC says:

Thank you Blink for all the work that you do. I am a parent of three college age girls and this is very, very sad and frustrating. My girls know never to go the restroom alone, nor would they let a friend go alone. I still can’t get me head around the fact that Morgan had her car there, yet her friends had her keys. She had her purse so why would she need someone carry her keys? That must have meant they had a designated driver and they knew she was under the influence. Then why would they not make a better attempt to help her out in the parking lot? These “friends” know more. Please correct me, but didn’t I read that one of the friend’s father is in law inforcment?

LC, congratulations on training your girls appropriately. The girl’s father your referring to, was NOT at the arena that evening. She is one of “the 9″, but not involved. Her Father, Officer Herrick took a personal day to volunteer in the search.

  32. wpgmouse says:

    Chad, Kelly

Alleged witness sightings are placing Morgan, for now, at 8:30, 9:20 and 9:30 pm.
As far as we know, the last cell phone communication between a girlfriend’s and Morgan’s phone is 8:48pm, where Morgan’s phone replies (texts) …”Don’t Worry…”

I believe we heard something of another text earlier than 8:48 that evening, while with her friends, to a “young gentleman” but no real details on that has been released.

Her purse and cell phone without the battery was not found until the following morning. While we may have been focused on those times of 9:20 and 9:30pm, we, the public, don’t know if Morgan made any calls or texts AFTER OR BEFORE those times, using some one else’s phone.

She may have asked to borrow a phone for some reason – - perhaps her phone battery did lose its charge. Perhaps she was offered a phone, especially if someone felt her to be in “some state of distress”. Maybe a person offered to charge her battery up or get her another one, all in a ruse.

I don’t know. But, like I said, her using another’s cell phone at any time that evening, is possible.

  33. wpgmouse says:

    Chad

Just to clarify, I believe everything that LE released in their statement today is important to the case.

  34. Momof3 says:

Morgan tried several times to get back into the arena.
Morgan called her friend inside the arena at about 8:30
Morgan was talking to the players between 9:00 and 9:30 that’s an hour she waited around in the lot. She either was waiting for a ride she knew was coming to get her or she had no intention of leaving the lot.

Maybe she had no intention of leaving the area at all.
If she was drunk she wouldn’t have felt the cold. She never tried to get a cab. They were there right?

Morgan waited for this concert for 6mths She would have wanted to stick around to at least say she was there. And above all she would have wanted to be in the car with her friends on the ride home. So they would have to hear all about it.

IMO it makes more sense for her to wait around for HER car, even if she told her friend -I’ll get a ride home from friends she could have meant it sarcastically… KWIM She’s thinking: Your not coming out? Your not gonna bring me my keys? After everything I just told you? After My being the reason everyone is here at this concert? Your not gonna help…What she says is: “Well then don’t worry about it I’ll get a ride from FRIENDS”.

What is hard for me to believe is she only tried to talk to her friends inside once. Maybe she wanted to but couldn’t.

Maybe her battery wasn’t charged and she took it out to show people her battery was dead and she needed to use their cell phones. This would explain why there is no battery. Maybe one of the friends got a call from an unknown # during this time.

IMO there is no way she would have been hitching. If she was that p***d at her friends and that desperate and under the influence she would have broke the window to her car and sat there waiting for her friends before she would have went hitching in the dark of night.

  35. Kaz says:

The only way I’d believe she was hitchhiking at this point is if she were frantic to get away from imminent violence. But even then, I’d wonder why she didn’t run back toward the venue and security.

She seems to have a loving family, and when I was her age, even if I were drunk or worse at any time day or night, my parents would drop everything to come get me, if I were next door or in the next state, without anger or accusation (that might come later, LOL). I’m sure the Harringtons would have gone to get her if she had called. I’m sure Morgan knew this. And now it’s confirmed that her car was there, and her friends had the keys. I don’t see her leaving there voluntarily.

I’m sure LE has their reasons for withholding information from the public, but it does make me wonder how they’re going to *get* information…

  36. chad says:

Thanks mouse. This may be what Corrine is trying to say………All your points/perpectives are very valid and well received. There have been so many different times flying around out there. Appreciate your clarification.
Still, so many questions, not enough answers.

I have been following this case (or have been trying too) since the beginning, I appreciate your clarifications on times, and events in your reply. So tragic, and what a nightmare for the parents…..my heart breaks for them each time I see them on TV.

  37. Dakota says:

SO am I to belive Morgan was abducted while she was on her cell phone ? AM I rethinking the timeline right ?

  38. Kim says:

I don’t know what to believe anymore. Blink, what does your gut tell you with this case?

    Kim- now that’s cheating.

Lol, seriously, as tempting of a question as that is, I am going to hold my tongue on it.

At the end of the day, I remember this lovely little lady, could be our sweet nieces, daughters, sisters.

I put her above any ego, any thoughts of being right and figuring it out first. What difference does it make at all if she is not found? I cannot stress enough- THAT IS, and will always be, my goal.

The indignity of someone taking anothers life is bad enough, but the egregious condemnation ones family bears knowing the person they love is “out there”, unless you have literally lived it in any degree; it is the difference between sanity and welcome insanity.

Long Way round, I absolutely believe they are working the case against a known suspect to LE.

  39. M. says:

I feel that the police are getting closer and closer, and as they get closer, the person on whom they have their eyes is going to get more nervous, and anyone who played any part at all is going to be getting nervous as well. I think the peripheral people, if they exist, are going to talk. If it wasn’t a single abductor, if there were several people party to her disappearance, someone is going to slip or is going to think about how to protect himself by speaking up.

I am in the Charlottesville area and am only about 1 degree of separation from Morgan – as in I know, through work, people who know her and her family. I can assure everyone who is not from this area that the community is agonizing over this.

I think you raise a very important point I was trying to “get to”earlier.
You “know” this family, and this happened in your community. Instead of feeling defensive, you have the grace to educate us on what your community is feeling in the face of it. We have to respect and appreciate that.

Thank you for your kind words. Your website has been a wonderful find for me. I want Morgan to be found, and this is where I can come for information.

I am soooooooo not buying this!!! This stinks to high heaven.
    A. if she was hitch hiking on the bridge why was her purse and cell phone found in the lot?

    B. Why would she be hitch hiking if she had a cc on her. Why not take a cab, even if she didn’t have cash most cabs accept cc’s

    C. If her car was in the lot why wouldn’t she have the keys?? When I drive someone elses car i immediantly give the keys back to them and if i let someone drive my car I always ask for my keys on arrival if they don’t offer them back immediantly.

    D. If she was locked out of the car why not call AAA or some other service, oh and by the way a lot of cars have a hard plastic key that can be used to operate the vehicle or make a duplicate in a lost key situation and the plastic key can be found in the owners manual. My Exployer had one, could Morgan’s have had one if so she would have known.

    E. Last but not least what about the unnamed witness that came forward stating she saw a girl matching Morgan’s discription in an arm shoving match in the parking lot about 9:30? Sorry if I missed anything else on this as I did skip ahead, seething makes me do that sometimes. But this grandmother did sound credible to me.

I’ve been thinking, there are a couple of scenarios in which she would have tried hitching.
You mentioned one, Blink -the someone that she was waiting for was in view or she mistook a vehicle for that of a person she knew and she put out her thumb to be “cute”

If she was talking to someone and had mentioned the idea of hitching and they told her you’d never be that adventurous your too much of a …. and to prove them wrong she said FU and put out her thumb. If she were drunk her inhibitions would have been lowered and at this age she would have thought like most of her age group that nothing bad could happen.

Maybe there are even more scenarios that are plausible. I have to, for now, believe that LE wouldn’t have come out with this new scenario a month later if they didn’t have a darn good reason for doing so. I hope this is the case.

I have jogged over the bridge numerous times. The street tees into Ivy Road just past the bridge. If Morgan was going to hitch-hike she would wait until she crossed the bridge, reached Ivy Road, and then try to catch a ride north or south (to Route 29). I am not buying the hitch-hiking story at all. It is a red herring-for whatever reason.

Thanks George, hopefully the 2 LEO tasked with reviewing web resources are loud and clear with this feedback.

I remember when I first heard about Morgan’s disappearance. I read and article where a women posted in the comment section that she saw a girl speaking with someone who was pulled over in their suv with no headlights on, in that vicinity, on that very night about that time. She said she remembered b/c she thought it was odd for someone to have stopped in that area with no headlights. I wonder if that ever checked out.
Let’s say for a minute that the hitchhiking story is plausible.
I remember being young and very intoxicated at a very popular outdoor sporting event which is located in a very bad neighboorhood. I got mad at my boyfriend and being drunk and mad made me not want to go back to the car with him. So I walked around the very bad neighborhood for awhile, even in alleys. Boy was I stupid. After starting to come to my senses I realized how dumb it was.
It just proves that with intoxication comes boldness and with anger comes irrational thinking.
She could’ve been so mad at her friends for not helping her (get her keys) and the fact she couldn’t re-enter that she became “invincible” in her mind and wanted to prove a point.
    Just another thought.

My first comment when I read the headline was NFW. I’m completely with you on the BS barometer on this, Blink. Applaud your #4. The interesting thing is that if this is a “strategy”, it is, I believe, going to backfire now big time. I predict the very kind of public outcry they may have been trying to avert to begin with. UVA cannot sit this one out and that’s not thunder I hear in the distance. I’ve always held VA LE in very high regard; I believe they are some of the best-trained and highly qualified pros in their field. I hope this isn’t a fumble.

I don’t care if these were choirboys on their way home from vespers who last interacted with her, the reality is that a young woman went missing within minutes after having a relatively lengthy interaction (not a mere sighting) with three males. In any similar scenario in any gin joint across this country these males would be the first people on the radar screen and no one would be “apologetic” about objectively putting them there. This is not Duke. It doesn’t mean they did it. But it does mean we shouldn’t be afraid of asking tough questions. I pray it has nothing to do with anyone from UVA, but even more desperately I pray for a young woman that has tragically gone missing and who did not disappear while hitchhiking.

  47. deeindvl says:

Ok still seething but trying to think past my anger.

Most people have a cell charger in their car…did Morgan?

We know the phone didn’t have the battery…She may have gave the battery to someone to charge in their phone on their charger. Also some electric chargers have a cradle to charge an extra battery.

Where is Morgan’s battery?? That’s the key.

blink: hope that all we say is being monitored by the LEO’s. let them all know that we have very heavy hearts. we search, we look, we watch and we pray. please give her family the peace that they deserve. i would want at least that!

i seriously doubt the bridge sighting. i know that we all went over that bridge back and forth to look for something and some of us even laid flowers for Morgan. how can it be that one vanishes into thin air? i know that someone has the answers we all need. i too am afraid of the “pinball scene” or something there like it. i think of Natalie Holloway and those three men. Must get to whomever fast before they all begin to believe thier lies! say something enough times and you begin to believe it. please break them down, whomever they are!

  49. deeindvl says:

Also it didn’t escape me the pic of the necklace wasn’t treleased until after Blink mententioned.

I think I’m gonna take a hot bath now.

Or the UVA players association. Sigh.
Enjoy the bubbles. I am a fellow soaker :)

not for nothing but i truly believe that this night quickly became a “series of unfortunate events” for Morgan. i say a prayer every night for her. keep posting and i’ll keep a calmer head and not use caps! i too am dealing with a banging headache. too many sightings and not enough information to feel that we are helping. tell me when there is another search and i will be there and this time i will bring my family!
