Morgan Harrington Case: Separating Fact From Fiction Part I

Posted by BOC Staff | Missing Persons,Morgan Harrington | Thursday 19 November 2009 2:48 pm

Charlottesville, VA– Just passing the month mark, the disappearance of Morgan Harrington from the John Paul Jones Area located on the UVA campus, leaves us with more questions than answers.

Morgan prom dress

The lack of clarity and verifiable, factual accounts regarding the day Morgan seemed to vanish is staggering.

In an attempt to sift through the garble and streamline information to progress her case; we visit the list of inconsistencies.

The Purse And Cell

PoliceLog1

I am at an utter loss as from what I can tell, there is a report of a purse S T O L E N from a vehicle from the Park section of the lot minutes after Morgan is allegedly seen at the opposite end of the campus. This appears to occur at 9:30PM, however the report indicates the theft occurs at 5:38 PM.

This call status ends up suspended, but when? Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a UVAPD insider expressed shock when I called it to their attention. “That almost never happens” I was told.

Could it be connected to what happened to Morgan? PoliceLog3

Could this call to Campus Police be the reason they are asking if anyone knows if she borrowed someone else’s cell? If that call came directly from a blue box phone, it dials directly to UVAPD.

Do they suspect this was Morgan?

Adding to the above obvious confusion, Morgan’s purse was not found in the Lanigan Lot as stated. Included in the UVAPD’ s own logs, it was found in the CAGE lot, which is on the opposite side of Copley Rd than the Lanigan Lot and accessible for parking only by athletes and UVA Athletics Donors such as season ticket holders.

UVAbbmap-1

According to Corrine Geller, VSP, they lose contact with Morgan, based on sightings and cell phone activity at that exact time; 9:30 PM. According to Gil Harrington, Morgans’s mom, there is some texting to an undisclosed individual that ceases at 9:20 with no further activity on her phone.

We know that Morgan interacted with UVA basketball players in this area, which through their spokesperson, refuse to comment on exactly which players were involved.

Newspaper Delivery Lady “Parson”

“I know what I saw,” says Norma Parson, a newspaper delivery woman who believes she saw Morgan– or an incredible lookalike— coming out of a room on UVA’s West Lawn at 3:45am October 18, six hours after the last confirmed sighting on Copeley Bridge.

“She was tall and thin,” says Parson, who says the woman’s high black boots had heels making her appear taller than Morgan’s reported height of 5’6&Prime and that she wasn’t wearing the black hose or tights police have described.

“I thought, ‘What’s she doing out here dressed like that,’” Parson recalls. When she learned of Harrington’s disappearance two days later and saw photographs of heavy mascara- and eyeliner-wearing Morgan, “I knew immediately it was the same girl I saw,” says Parsons, who credits art training for teaching her to examine facial details— even those she sees in passing. “I never had a moment’s doubt,” she insists.

Ms. Parsons seems to be somewhat upset that LE is not taking her tip seriously. Could it be that in the interest of disclosure if you have a relative working in the art department on staff of “The Hook” it is good to lead with that information if your concerned about credibility. I am not implying Ms. Parson does not believe her statement, but readers should be made aware if someone is an employee of their paper.

    “awa:
an obvious question would be…do any basketball players live in dorms on the west lawn????

Well thats a great question, and also note someone on west lawn needed medical asisstance in the wee hours.
    B”

Now this would be an example of player suspension, IF, if it was a player (any sports player) that required this medical attention – - either a curfew issue, or banned substance intake, or both.

  2. Tuscarora says:

    Blink,
Where did you find out that the call was suspended? I see in the report that the CASE was suspended (which in and of itself is odd), but you keep saying that the call was suspended. Did your insider at the campus PD tell you that?

Im referring to the case as in the report.
    B

  3. wpgmouse says:

Just to add to a player suspension …

“Publicly” violating team rules, like perhaps sleeping or passed out on a campus lawn, or not walking away from a minor altercation even if provoked (for examples only), would apply to a short-term suspension due to “conduct unbecoming to the team”.

  4. wpgmouse says:

    from Blink:

    “8:48 friends call Morgan.
Some texting to/from Morgan’s phone up until 9:20 (nonspecific).
    Cell activity done 9:30″

    Wow. Thank you.

  5. Observer says:

I am sorry that I have been unable until now to weigh in on this thread.

Please pay very close attention to localcvillegirl’s comments. They should help to clarify certain important items that may help to alleviate misconceptions and/or faulty conclusions. I offer this counsel because I remain concerned that readers may be unintentionally connecting the dots in a fashion that may lead to possibly inaccurate conclusions. Speculation and/or assumption absent facts is the quintessential “slippery slope” in an investigatory process.

Some additional, key points seen in the following excerpts merit close attention, as well:

    From George #3:
“…The question then becomes wheither or not the Cage lot was given over to JPJ arena event parking for the Metallica concert as the larger lots were.”

    From mosaic #9:
“…it’s important to note that according to the UVA website, parking at the Cage lot is open during JPJ events for event goers. In other words, we cannot assume that only athletes or season pass holders would have access to this lot during the time of Morgan’s disappearance.”

As localcvillegirl aptly pointed-out, during JPJ events that are predicted to draw substantial crowds, e.g., most concerts, many–if not most–of the lots in the vicinity of JPJ are opened for attendees. Case-in-point: My office is blocks away from JPJ, but easily within walking distance. Each time that JPJ hosts an event drawing large numbers of attendees, we advise our employees to clear the lot/move their cars at the close of the business day to allow room for event attendees that evening. This is SOP (“Standard Operating Procedure”).

    On a related note:

    From tmom #12:
“…possible that the person who recovered the purse was actually walking through the Lanigan lot to the Cage lot when they discovered the purse, called police from the Cage lot therefore the police responded to the Cage lot instead of Lanigan?”

Like AtotheK, I do not believe that the report of the stolen purse is connected in any way to MH’s disappearance.

The reason: “The Park” referred to in the police report is not near JPJ, UHall, the Cage, Lannigan, the RV lot, etc. Instead, “The Park” refers to an area in front of the Darden Business School—farther down Massie Rd. and away from the JPJ area.

A cautionary note that I must remind myself of often: It is presumptive and ill-advised to rush to conclusion based on speculation and incomplete data. Ergo, it is not my conclusion—rather, it is my belief absent definitive and corroborating evidence/information to the contrary—that the report of the stolen purse is not related to MH.

    re: #31

Perhaps I am confused. I pulled up the map you linked to (thanks for finding this, I looked for it earlier and did not find it). But, when I look at the map, I see no blue phones near Lannigan field at all. In fact, the closest phone appears to be across the street, extactly where the Cage is – right? Perhaps I am looking at the wrong spot – I am looking just north of the end of the orange line on Copely Road in the middle of the map.

To the person that just posted and said their husband saw Morgan carted off by security for trying to get beer without a wristband- did they ever find a security guard that would have led her away?

  8. Observer says:

For clarification: The references above are to two (2) separate purses; that is:

    1. the purse recovered that has been confirmed as belonging to MH; This is the one that was found by a passerby following MH’s disappearance; and
    2. the purse that was reported to be stolen from a vehicle on the evening of October 17

  11. Ross says:

I am having a hard time understanding why absolutely no pictures, either still shots taken by her friends, or a random shot taken by other concert goers, or any video has surfaced?

I am having a hard time believing none of her friends took any group shots or road trip pictures on the way to the concert, and even more of a hard time believing that she wasn’t captured on any video cameras at the venue. If this brand new $131 million dollar JPJ arena doesn’t have video cameras recording each and every exit, as well as all the ticket windows during events, they would be setting themselves up for a major heist.

There are only three possibilities that I can think of to explain this:

    1) There is something in the pictures that positively id the subject as Morgan, and LE is keeping them from the public to use that to verify sightings from tipsters, as they did with the necklace at first. I know JPJ allows cameras for all UVA events; does anyone know if Metalica allowed cameras at their shows?

    Or
    2) Morgan never was actually at the venue.

    Or
    3) Morgan is a ninja and was able to dodge all the cameras.

    B-
I just found your site a few days ago – and i love it! i have been on here every single day and read all your news postings and all the posts of each one.
I however, have been following Morgan’s disappearance since the day she went missing as i do usually for most case’s because you get involved and want to know what is going on and what happened. People have hearts and we care too.
But after I came across posting #40 by cd22405, I had an immediate change of mind…to what i have been thinking. Being the post is accurate and correct, so her husband was at the concert and saw a woman similar to Morgan trying to get someone to buy her a beer, which I wouldn’t doubt, young college woman do those kinds of things as I myself have before in my time, and security came to see her wristband but yet she didn’t have one because of being underage, so they took her to the security room i am assuming and i bet escorted her out. Doing something like that…if you get caught, you will get in trouble that is how arena’s are and baseball’s game and so on…so MAYBE she got in trouble and let out of the arena for trying to do that, she called her friends said i got in trouble for doing this and i will try to find a ride…her friends probably do not want to say that i am guessing since she was underage and maybe saying she went to the bathroom was a better “story” who knows…also, the one guy who was waiting on his friends that were late to the concert, said he heard someone yelling at the entrance trying to get back in (turned out to be her after she walked away and talked to him)..i know that if i forgot my ticket and so on, i would prob not be yelling if i just “forgot” my ticket, but i do know that i would probably be yelling if someone escorted me out because i was asking for a beer i know i would. So she got let out and it still is a mystery…but the bathroom story is a joke and her “friends” are not telling the truth.

prays are with her and her family, i hope to god some answers come through and the TRUTH comes out.

so if someone or some nefarious activity lured morgan outside ,at 8:20(exited seat for restroom? or exited jpja ),and her friends called HER at 8:48,then SHE NEVER CALLED her friends, how is it known for sure it was morgan who answered her phone, and said i’ll get a ride home?if the friends were in a noisy place,a guy can imitate a girls voice on a cell phone under the right circumstances,if this is premeditated, thats where im at was this premeditated or opportunistic,i would think opptunity.and rape is one thing rape and murder another,i dont know the perp profile differences.its pretty hard to accidently kill someone right?it pretty hard to od (except for maybe bad exstacsy)and die (if not a known drug addict mixer).

Found this Re: JPJ and Beer

    4/20/2009

Pretty good venue overall. The sound was good during the show I attended. I was very surprised to find out that they serve beer at this college arena. I was informed by one of the attendants that it just started at the last concert and that they limit the amount of beer to 4 per person. They have various ATM’s ( I saw a Bank of America and M and T) around the venue–it is nice to have the option to not pay the service fees

  16. Observer says:

To wpgmouse: I cannot definitively say whether or not the blue phones closest to JPJ also provide video surveillance. I can, however, say that the blue phone closest to my parking lot–some blocks from JPJ–does not.

As promised last week, I have asked that one of my staff who is at this moment at JPJ attending the Daughtry concert pay close attention to the location of any visible video surveillance equipment. [I spoke with her earlier this evening by phone while she was standing in line near the portals and she indicated that she could see no CCTV. I asked that she look for surveillance cameras inside the arena after she entered, particularly in the lobby area.]

  17. Veracity says:

Thank you blink! Thrilled someone has picked up this ball! These surveillance phones are one piece of the security grid for this university campus aren’t they? What about the rest of the cameras inside and outside of the JPJ?

To #40- Did your husband notice any INJURY on MORGAN? What did the security person look like? Man, woman, large, small?

TO OBSERVER – I continue to wait for your post.

Are there actual UVA police reports which can be examined or are these reports considered private?

  18. AtotheK says:

I believe I read somewhere that pre-Metallica the venue served beer but stopped sales at the start of Metallica.
Could be a reason for her to leave?

  19. Veracity says:

I have been trying to post for hours. had no trouble the other day, now…

Thrilled BLINK picked up the ball about the oddities involving the purse! Way to go!

I am very interested about the lighting of THE CAGE area. The reason I ask is two fold- Morgan was in very dark clothes and the night was misty and cold. She apparently bounced around the parking lots trying to get back inside, right? I noticed that UVA students and guests have a specific entrance to JPJ, right? Could Morgan have known the Basketball players? Known since her brother went there about this entrance? Approached the b-ball players NOT for a ride but for help to get back inside?? Just wondering….

Also while I am speculating – what about the way the CAGE LOT during the night of the concert seemed to become public parking area and the athletes move from that lot over to RV lot, right? Then at some point the cars would return to THE CAGE LOT right? When do the athletes have to move for concerts and when are they allowed to return? After the concert started, after the main act takes the stage?, after midnight? What is fascinating is the way Morgan is said by B-Ball players to talking with them in the RV lot and then Morgan’s purse shows up in the CAGE lot, where they, or some athletes would be parking.

  20. Veracity says:

KUDOS to blink for picking up the ball where this purse goes. WAY TO GO! I hope more will start asking questions.

I have been trying to post for hours. Computer keeps saying I have a comflict??? I am not the most tech wise person. Frustrating as can be.

I am very interested about the lighting of THE CAGE area. The reason I ask is two fold- Morgan was in very dark clothes and the night was misty and cold. She apparently bounced around the parking lots trying to get back inside, right? (we still wait to find out what doors she tried where/when). I noticed that UVA students and guests have a specific entrance to JPJ, right? Here is the link.

Could Morgan have known/recognized UVA basketball players? And known since her brother went there about this entrance? Approached the b-ball players NOT for a ride but for help to get back inside? Just wondering….

Also while I am speculating I do want to drill down on two things that seem to be in play – the CAGE LOT during the night of the concert seemed to become public parking area and the athletes move from that lot over to RV lot, right? Then at some point the cars would return to THE CAGE LOT right?

If the athletes had not stated Morgan approached them in the RV lot then where her purse was found (the CAGE LOT) would have an immediate PUBLIC sort of twist, BUT they stated she began to HITCHHIKE BUT her purse was found in the CAGE LOT. This is the second HUGE DISCONNECT for me. First the way she found herself “separated from her friends and on the outside of JPJ” and then the conflict of where the guys who seem to be the last ones who interacted with her in one place and where Morgan became separated from or the place where at some point Morgan’s purse was later found. For me, until someone pulls the report and can prove her purse was actually found elsewhere, which would beg the question why was it not logged? I have to believe the ONLY FOUND PURSE reported was Morgan’s and the report says it was found at THE CAGE LOT.

When do the athletes/and whoever else is allowed to use those lots have to move for concerts and when are they allowed to return? After the concert starts? After the main act takes the stage? After midnight and it is a new day? What is fascinating is the way Morgan is said by B-Ball players to be talking with them in the RV lot and then Morgan’s purse shows up in the CAGE lot, where they, or some athletes/others allowed to use the lot would be parking.

I still want to know WHERE EXACTLY was Morgan’s belongings found?

Some posters are focusing on the purse, others are focusing on the lots, others on the bridge, the friends etc…..all good points of interest in the investigation, but these things do not change the “perp” wants, and needs/agenda. However, I am inclined to focus on the perp, and possible profiling of the perp.

There has been a reference, and limited comparison to Ted Bundy, ( a reknown serial killer) in regards to posts concerning this investigation of the disappearance of MH. These comparisons lends itself to the belief that the proposed comparison is linking similrities to Ted Bundy MO, to this case. Also, there have been a couple of references in regards to:
A perp looks for opportunistic venues in which to execute an abduction where there may be a greater chance of oppotunity to sieze a victim.
Ted Bundy was very handsome. Charisma was an understatement. He was a an honor student in law school. Highly intelligent, very high IQ. Professors loved, and adored him. High, high marks academically. However, he was also known to torture cats, and animals, burn them alive, and demonstrated other “abnormal” behaviors as a child growing up was later revealed by his mother later. Also, it was suggested by profilers that he choose Florida to kill, to see if he actually could get caught murdering, since, at that time, Florida was one of the few states that still had the death penalty.
It is known that serial killers do seek attention from authorities, the lime light, and also challenge and love to “stump” LE, as if it were a game.
My question is slueths: Is LE looking for a serial killer? Is this what we have here? We have no crime “scene”, only an alledged crime. We have a purse, a cell phone, and a missing 20 year old woman.
Ted Bundy was active and abducting women at an alarming rate throughout the US when I was young. He managed to murder a mulititude of women accross many many states. It was years before he was caught.
As I have learned and studied, it is known that a serial killer does fantasize about killing…..however, when they kill, it never quit manages to meet up to their expectations each time they do it. This is why they keep doing it, is to try to feed into their fantasy of how it “feels”.

As one poster said, “the predator hunts victims much like a wild animal hunts prey in the wild” I believe this, and this is very true with Ted Bundy.

Are we looking for a serial killer? Or are we looking at a sex trafficking situation, (some say probability unlikely) or are we looking at a predator that perhaps had seized on this ( impulsive predator) moment to abduct a girl on impulse( Good guy, goes bad guy) ?? stranger danger? ( I do not believe this thoery)
Another scenario would be semi acquiantance lures her out to outside the arena. So, another Good, guy, bad scenario takes place….again not a fan…..
Based on the evidence, experience and “logic” what is it folks?
    Blink? Observer….Momof3? Pamtx……..wpgmouse? anyone….?? Thoughts?

  30. PamTX says:

#79 chad – I have had my own personal theory for quite some time in Morgan’s disappearance, but have welcomed so many others theories/input also. There are some wonderful people on this site who bring so much to the table so-to-speak. I keep going back to the simplest and most logical answers and then researching outwards. I do not believe this is a serial killer, based on so many inconsistent explanations from way too many people (who should have been consistent with their explanations) in the very beginning.

I believe in one major component followed by three variables:

    1) She trusted whomever is responsible for her abduction;
    a) She personally knew them and things went very wrong.
    b) Someone gained her trust in a short period of time and she went
    willingly (more variables obviously)

Just my opinion and gut instinct. Shortly after midnight here in my state, so a little brain tired :) .

Tucker says he’ll be back after Cancun Challenge
    November 19, 2009
    Story by Chris Graham

    (Portion of article)

“UVa. senior forward Jamil Tucker told ACCVirginia.com contributor Scott German tonight that he plans to be back with the Virginia basketball team after its trip to Cancun for the final two games of the Cancun Challenge”.

  32. susanm says:

i dont think if she was merely attempting to purchase a beer while underage, that would necessitate her being escorted out of the venue, but if she was drinking a beer without a wristband,i could understand them escorting her out,as she is an injury liability.

  33. cd22405 says:

I posted #40- my husband did not mention that she had any injuries-and that would be something you would defentanly (sp?) notice. he also said there were 2 security guards 1 women 1 man.

  34. Observer says:

To chad #79 and PamTX #81: It is my belief that you are both spot-on in your observations. While I am not necessarily a proponent of the serial assailant theory in this instance, I offer allusions to the infamous Ted Bundy in what I hope will be a point a reference for readers inasmuch as Bundy provides a noteworthy example of the general mind-set of an assailant.

Chad’s questions are excellent, e.g. is LE looking for:
    a. a serial predator? I would submit that, while they are not targeting that theory, they are likewise not discounting it.
    b. sex trafficking? Possible but not probable–but again, cannot be discounted out-of-hand.
    c. opportunistic predator? Again, possibly.
    d. GG gone BG? Again, possibly.

Chad aptly brings us back to the singular most challenging aspect of this case for LE; that is, there is no crime scene. No known crime has been committed. There is no hard evidence of a crime.

There is only a purse, a phone and a missing woman. Period. Full stop. LE is working with a dearth of information. This is precisely why they have repeatedly solicited assistance from anyone who might have information, however seemingly inconsequential, that may help to fill in essential gaps.

All of that notwithstanding, remaining open to all options is mission critical. It is when an investigation focuses only on one theory that valuable data points may be missed. Research reveals that the human brain seeks to find evidence to support pre-conceived notion. The challenge is to disallow things such logical fallacy thinking from occurring.

I refer readers to de Bono’s Six Thinking Hats system. The underlying principles as seen in Wiki:
“The premise of the method is that the human brain thinks in a number of distinct ways which can be identified, deliberately accessed and hence planned for use in a structured way allowing one to develop strategies for thinking about particular issues. Dr. de Bono identifies five distinct states in which the brain can be “sensitized”. In each of these states the brain will identify and bring into conscious thought certain aspects of issues being considered (e.g. gut instinct, pessimistic judgement, neutral facts).”

    PamTX summed it up well:
    1) She trusted whomever is responsible for her abduction; and/or
    2) She personally knew them and things went very wrong; and/or
    3) Someone gained her trust in a short period of time and she went
    willingly.

All of the above said, my position remains:
    1. The UVA basketball players are not involved in the MH disappearance.
    2. The stolen purse report is not material to this case.
    3. Mr. Kane is not a target of this investigation.

I maintain that–and believe that LE is likewise convinced, as are many/most readers:
    1. MH came to and entered JPJ.
    2. MH exited JPJ.
    3. MH walked around outside for a period of time.
    4. MH entered a vehicle.
    5. MH left the CV area.

  35. sue says:

PamTX, these are my thoughts also. Morgan went willingly and ‘knew’ the person involved in her disappearance.

I am also beginning to believe that LE knows the person or people and those people are under constant surveillance.

The secrecy surrounding the case is what makes me sure of this.

  36. TOY says:

I was hoping someone else would ask this and I could learn the answer without having to show my obvious “out-of-touchness.”

Would someone give a short and quick explanation of a blue phone?

I’m assuming it has a connection with security(?) Is it like the emergency “bridge” phones one sees on long bridge spans? Is it literally blue? Are they frequently found on other college campuses? Personally, I’ve never heard of them.

  37. Concerned mother says:

PLEASE look at the center for missing and exploited children website and do a search for Virginia. http://www.missingkids.com/missingkids/servlet/PubCaseSearchServlet

People are asking if it could be a serial killer. Just look at how many girls have been abducted in Virginia, just in the past SIX MONTHS. Comnpare it to other states. This is really concerning. Fifteen girls abducted in Virginia this year.

  38. sue says:

This case really has attracted some odd characters. As I was rereading some old articles, I noticed this from an early Hook article,

“And that, says interested citizen Steve Burger, who watched the press conference online, is why he emailed police and suggested they interview roadies and members of the two “death metal” opening bands, Richmond-based Lamb of God and France-based Gojira.
Burger, a freelance journalist who has interviewed convicted killer Jens Soering, observes that Harrington reportedly kept her Metallica tickets on her refrigerator for six months and debuted her concert outfit for her mother.”

“Burger contends that while the Arena’s front door personnel present a steep obstacle by blocking reentry, getting past roadies and security at a service entrance might be easier for “a beautiful girl like that in a black mini-skirt.”
Burger drew no such link, but the so-called “Farmville murders” took place last month in another college town after a high school girl, who met a rapper at a horrorcore music festival, invited him to visit her family.”

    http://www.readthehook.com/blog/index.php/2009/10/21/morgans-mystery-what-happened-outside-arena/#more

So, who the hell is Steve Burger? He shoes up at the Harrington’s house to chat? An interested citizen?
My point is, this case has really become an obsession for the seemingly ‘lonely guy’. There are a few of them on the Facebook site and some on the Find Morgan site that are clearly in need of a mental ‘time out’ from the hunt for Morgan. Has anyone else noticed that there are more than a few loose screws here?

  39. Momof3 says:

    Chad,
    Excellent post.
I have to admit I am not sure. I, like PamTx, believe that there are too many inconsistencies to determine the truth of the situation as of yet.
I have not ruled out an accident/coverup

However, going under the assumption that Morgan was taken, I have to look at the “series of unfortunate events” that led to her disappearance:

    locked out of arena
    under dressed for the weather
    no access to her car
left alone in a back lot

If we eliminate Morgan calling someone she knew and trusted to pick her up…. And if we eliminate her having a known plan to meet and go off with someone… we must take into account that each of these variables listed above were not planned. Then we must add to that Morgan was most likely under the influence and or not thinking clearly from a fall… All of these factors lead me to believe it is more likely that Morgan met and was befriended by one or more GG turned BG than she had met with the likes of a serial killer or a sex ring abductor. IMO

cd22405: please confirm…two security guards and one of them is a woman? did you husband happen to see if Morgan was arguing with the female guard? i happen to think that Morgan may have been “put out” of the concert because of a tiff with the female guard. this has been my thought all along. she possibily seemed very drunk if she hit her head and if they argued then maybe the guard just was sick of it and told her to leave the arena. i do not believe Morgan left that arena to meet up with someone. i truly believe that she knew she could not get back in. it all goes down hill from there…

TOY – “blue light” security phones are strategically placed around the UVa academic and medical center grounds. They are a phone box on a pole with a blue light so they can be seen and recognized at a distance. They are activated by pushing a button; that connects you with the 911 dispatcher who can read the phone’s location.

#86 – Blue phones are emergency phones that are typically found on college campuses as part of the security of the campus. They are usually tall posts with a phone in them and a blue light at the top so that passers-by know exactly where they are in case they need them. very much appreciate the thoughtful posts and am generally on board with your thoughts. Not sure if “BG” or “GG turned BG”, though. I am thinking just a BG at this point — more scary, that, if you ask me.

    Fletch,

I agree with you. I find that scenario so much more disturbing. My thoughts are that if it is a serial killer, IMO it would be along the lines of little Adam Walsh. Being that a series of unfortunate events or “if only’s” brought him into the arms of a serial killer. If only he had walked back to his mom…if only the store personnel hadn’t kicked the boy’s outside…if only the boy’s would have noticed him and returned him to the store…..If only

The thought that this case might somehow be connected to the Metzler/Childs murders is interesting and the young woman did look something like Morgan. But otherwise, the cases are not much alike. Metzler and Childs were in a rather remote, unpopulated area, whereas Morgan was in an urban, very heavily populated area. The male was found dead in his car, which seems to indicate someone walked up and shot him, while his female companion was outside the car, which seems to indicate she either got out and ran from the attacker or the attacker took her after killing Metzler and later killed her. I don’t know how far outside the car she was, but if close to the car, he just shot her as she tried to get away. In other words, that would be a pretty quick and “clean” kill without a kidnapping. It is of course possible that the same person who killed the young couple also abducted and probably killed Morgan, but for, they seem to be two different types of crime.

We agree. Ms. Childs was shot attempting to flee following Mr. Metzler’s murder through the drivers window.

I have been reading your site for weeks, and I have surprised myself at the level of interest I have in this case. (Perhaps because this could have been me in college, as I have made many a bad decision and put myself in dangerous situations because of alcohol) For some reason, from the start, I feel like she was kicked out of the concert. If they can confirm that she was there, then she must be on surveillance somewhere and they are not releasing this. As someone else stated earlier, I believe they have a POI or several POI’s that they are monitoring and waiting for them to make a move. While I think the friends made a terrible choice in allowing her to be by herself, they themselves may have been wasted and not thinking clearly. We also need to consider that perhaps the friends have been forthright with information to the people that need to know. Also, they may have been instructed to absolutely stay silent. I feel their level of silence is so extreme that this has to be the case. They were lifetime friends. I cannot believe that with this level of friendship that they did anything malicious.

With all of that said, it still doesn’t bring me to any conclusions of what happened to her outside. I do think that are not releasing some of this info because they do not want to portray her in a negative light, and also because they already have someone in mind.

Someone posted that someone matching her description was seen in the early morning, partially dressed, at UHall. Is this a reliable report? Also, the report of someone needing medical help on the lawn around that time, any information on that? Do either of the suspended UVA BB players reside in that area?

This poor girl. It could have been so many of us. Just because she may have made some poor choices, if this is the case, it doesn’t mean for one second that any of this is her fault. I don’t know if releasing information about her state at the time would matter toward the investigation, but it would answer many questions for us.

I absolutely pray that there is a conclusion to this baffling mystery for her family. What a nightmare this must be. First time poster…

This is a great site. I’ve been lurking for awhile and have followed this case since the beginning. I’m still holding onto the hope that Morgan will show up alive. I’m posting because I’m confused about this Dee girl. How many of the following sightings were actually of her and not Morgan?

-The bloody chin in the concert
    -Falling down at the concert
-Being escorted out of the concert
-Upset, talking on the phone outside the concert
    -Kicking the 44-year-old guy
    -Talking to the BB players
    -Hitchhiking on Copley Bridge
-Being seen by the paper woman at 3am coming out of building with 3 guys (sans tights?)

Wouldn’t it be easy enough to verify which of these sighting were of Dee by simply asking her? Or am I missing something? I would think that this clarification would be very important to the case. Unless the authorities know but aren’t telling…?

the answer as to why she was outside is known to her friends, i believe. when she called them from outside the arena and told them she would find a way home, what would be the first question any friend would ask? how did you wind up outside when you just go up to go to the bathroom? how did that happen? if she didn’t talk to them directly and instead left a message stating she would find a way home,
don’t know if this was ever revealed, she still most likely would tell
what happened, how she got outside in the message. i’m sure the police and her parents know from her friends why she was outside. why this was not revealed publicly makes me wonder if it is a special clue for some reason that police do not want revealed because of it’s importance maybe. i do believe however, the friends were told by morgan how she wound up outside

I can tell you her family is adamant they do not know how or why she got outside the arena. Also, the friends called her at 8:48PM.

Tina, have you watched the clear video of Dee as the Metallica search-and-destroy balls fell at the end of the concert, and she left with her male friends and one of the balls, and wearing short boots? Although we don’t know what time Dee arrived at the concert, and the siting of a blonde and male friends crossing the street at 9ish could be her (which you don’t list), I don’t think any of the first 7 items you list could possible have been Dee.
