Morgan Harrington Murder: Rumors Of A Suspects Arrest

Posted by BOC Staff | Alex Harrington,Amy Melvin,Dan Harrington,Gil Harrington,Morgan Harrington,Murdered,Sara Snead | Thursday 28 January 2010 3:11 pm

Charlottesville, VA– This afternoon, originating on a VT Athletics Site rumors clogged the web that a suspect was placed under arrest for the murder of Morgan Harrington. After my 20th comment in 10 minutes and 12th email inquiry about it, I went to the source.

Crime scene

..There has been no arrest. It is an unfounded rumor and I have no idea how or where it started. I can only assume it stemmed from the fact that we completed our investigation of the crime scene at Anchorage Farm early this afternoon, I guess I will probably have to put out an email this afternoon..”

– Corrine Geller, PR Manager for VSP to Blink

As exclusively reported yesterday on blinkoncrime.com, it is expected that the  and VSP upcoming conversations with those on the list with permission to hunt on Anchorage Farm, will propel the investigation into the murder of Morgan Harrington quickly.

However, Virginia State Police are not discussing whether or not they have a person of interest or suspect in this case.

There is however, unreleased new information and new evidence gleaned from the crime scene. VSP will not disclose what personal effects were found with Morgan’s remains at this time.

The viral arrest rumor was not the only odd occurrance today.

In what appears to be an unrelated coincidence, an explosive device was detinated on the train tracks close to James Madison University this morning. A nearby dorm has been evacuated in connection with materials found at the scene, and a criminal investigation has been launched by the ATF.

JMU is the school several of Morgan’s friends attend, and from where the group departed to attend the Metallica Concert that fateful night of October 17, 2009.

Check back to blinkoncrime.com for updates to this developing story.

Cause Of Death is too few crappers for the number of tickets sold . Easily provable.”

Mr. Speaker: It was NOT a sold-out performance! So your too few crappers, is kaput!
As in, there were tickets available at the door. I am sensing that I do not like your tone. My little-bitty hairs are standing up on the back of my neck concerning your post. Maybe it is just me. I apologize before I need too.

You need to remember that Morgan Harrington was and still is the victim here! I do not believe that we will solve this crime. WE have law enforcement to do that. No matter whether we like the how, when or why they do it! I personally, come to this board, not to solve anything (although Frank, I have been at times, delusional). I come here to find an incrediable, supportive, sensitive and very smart group of people who may or may not have been touched by death! I think that you can understand where I am coming from. Maybe you are just what we need. Someone with detachment! You could be the one to solve this.

Please, know that I do appreciate your theories but it sounds like you got it all wrapped up! Now, go out and get ‘em boy!

p.s. How dare you! Her life was not lost because of too few crappers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fish, Mr. Speaker is crass, I almost commented on it, but when I read it, it reminded me of what I call the “Ornery Generation” or Gen O. I don’t think he was being malicious, just “removed”.

Been away, so just reading through the postings and comments.

Chad reminded me of words by Gil Harrington from January 24, just before Morgan was found, that I wanted to comment on back then, but had forgotten. As an animal lover and rescuer of several injured or unwanted creatures, like the 2 dogs that shared my bed last night (don’t ask), words from that kingdom always catch my attention.

    From Gil:
“Waiting for God to pull the rabbit out of the hat and bring Morgan home.”

Again – - I can’t help but to interpret – - it is largely part of my nature. So, with that “pull the rabbit out of the hat” – - : miracle, magic trick, magic show, magician, names of, Copperfield, Angel, Henning, Cedric, Merlin, magic props, illusion, disappear and appear, mouse-be-quiet, okay, hear you loud and clear.

So, on another note, I was riding down in an elevator earlier, tired and leaning back on one of the side walls, looking at the poster signage and informational releases that were on the back wall.
One mass printed poster, a public service reminder, well designed, that caught my eye had the title “The 3-R’s”, and showed a photo of a piled on with messes desk. I did chuckle a bit, and couldn’t help but think, that is what my desk looks like lately, with all the empty Pepsi bottles (sorry, Coke is good, too), paper wrappers from chocolate and all sorts of sustaining candy and food-treats, empty containers of all sorts. Would you believe I found, last week, a hidden pizza crust edge and a couple of milkbones for the pooches that had worked their way north of my keyboard area, to the back of my computer. Unreal. The keys on my keyboard have residue from chocolate and orange, cheese taco chip covered fingertips, not to mention the crumbs caught in between. Even the shag carpeting has crumbs, including from two dogs eating their treats, even though they do their best to get every last morsel. Long-lasting chews, milkbones of every size and flavour, and shared taco-chips (but never chocolate) have been continuous rewards for them, as we have become one through my interest in BOC and Morgan Harrington and my time spent on the computer.

My assignment after this posting, is to clear the area, clear my head. Too bad dogs can’t vacuum – - although is it may be too late to teach an old dog new tricks, there is always hope for the younger one.

    Hi Blink and Blinksters-
I spent about 2 hours studying aerial maps last night on the In Session site, and was amazed at the visible tracks you could see going all over the field where Morgan was found. Now I know these are old shots, but those were tractor or 4-wheeler tracks… After looking at the back fence line, it looks to me that the easiest path for the perp was on Blandemar traffic turnaround, where an unfamuliar vehicle wouldn’t have aroused interest. People there say they often have folks behind their houses spotlighting deer, and the killer probably has a truck. As you mentioned B., he drove as far as he could and may have walked her just a few yards to where she was found. I don’t know anything about GRH, but I was pretty freaked out when I saw how close a certain SO lived to Anchorage Farm. I could see that guy picking up a cold Morgan on the bridge and saying he would take her to a popular pizza place on Monacan to wait out the concert. This SO is really cute and the same age as Morgan. She might have had a run-in with someone (ex-BF) in the arena area and was in a hurry to get away.
I think any clothing items were tossed after the fact. I think she was attacked inside the vehicle or a house and was then taken to the field. If further down Monacan, she would have thought that he might be taking her back to the arena area and not put up much of a fight, thinking that her life was not in danger.
    Just rambling-

“Medical examiner: Morgan Harrington death a homicide
By Rex Bowman | The Roanoke Times

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond has determined that Morgan Harrington’s death was a homicide. The office said it currently has no further information to share about how she was killed.

Harrington disappeared Oct. 17 from a Metallica concert she was attending in Charlottesville. Her body was found Jan. 26 in an Albemarle County hayfield about 10 miles south of where she was last seen.

The medical examiner’s office finding rules out the possibility that Harrington, 20, wandered away from Charlottesville and died of exposure.

Ok, I am glad the exposure issue was done, but that is the strangest announcement I have seen in a while.
I am going to need to review the ME regs here.

I have no idea whether there is any connection between all the events that took place after Morgans found dead. But I think we can comment.

I was trying to find some info about that someone from Crozet, the “GRH” and his possible relation with MDH, and google cache says that on some sites it was. And now it is no longer there.

    I was reading this article:

Could it mean the remains show evidence of violence (showing it was a homicide) but it is not clear what act/injury finally caused death.

I think we all hoped for an announcement of some type with regard to COD or even that a perp has been arrested. For whatever reason, the t-shirt discovery is an issue. I know it’s been discussed here that it’s not something to continue to discuss. I will not discuss this further as i have been asked not to. I don’t know the laws regarding the ME releasing COD, but is it possible LE or the Commonwealth’s Attorney office asked that the COD not be released or a gag order issued?

No, the ME cannot request a gag order before there are any charges filed, If it is sealed, it is “sealed” they cannot partially seal an autopsy finding. That said, I have not seen an official statement, just the ole press interpretation.

  29. Rob says:

I, too, believe the crimes against Morgan were committed by an UNKNOWN. It seems apparent from everything I’ve read, and the main reason why it has not been solved to date. And as time goes by – my belief becomes stronger.

There have been so many differing agency involved in this case (FBI, Charlottesville Police, VBI, UVA police and investigators) – and that’s not to say Morgan has received preferential treatment, but because the crime WAS committed by an UNKNOWN – the authorities are rightfully concerned that a potential serial killer in the making is on the loose and on the prowl.

I believe the person is right there in the area. And he’s been watching everything and reading these boards. A crime committed by an unknown assailant is always the hardest to solve. Due to the fact that the crime appears to have been committed on a night when a mega concert was occurring – the person could be from a good distance. It’s not likely in my opinion, but the possibility exists none-the-less (so I will mention it anyway).

The reason I say – “potential serial killer in the making” is because I don’t think this guy’s DNA is in a database yet. He’s probably committed other crimes (these could be misdemeanors and crimes he committed and has never caught), but this time it escalated to murder. He’s been thinking about murder and fantasizing about rape for a long long time. Probably since he was a kid that reached puberty.

When a killer commits his first murder – and please pardon my words, they are not meant to harm anyone, and especially not the Harringtons and not meant to be insensitive, (but this is a discussion board) – however, when a killer commits his FIRST murder – the crime is particularly grisly. The killer acts out all of his fantasies.

My friend was murdered (in 1989) by a “potential serial killer in the making” and that’s not the exact language that the police and FBI used but it’s the easiest way to describe the type of killer on the board here.

It was speculated that this killer (from 1989) was acting out his fantasies and first murder. In a case like this – and this person has never been apprehended – there are many more victims before he is finally discovered. Like I said – this guy has never been caught and it’s been 20 years. Or he could have been caught for other murders and never tied to my friend’s death.

In Morgan’s case – it is my firm belief that Mr Harrington is absolutely correct – Morgan did not know the person that took her life. And he is local. I have been of that belief since the case occurred and my thoughts are reaffirmed by what has happened in the last week or so. I believe no arrest is imminent and it might be a while before anyone is finally caught. I could be wrong and it is my hope that the person that took Morgan’s life was caught yesterday. This will take every tool LE has in their arsenal. I really mean that. A case like this is hard to solve in my opinion. It can be done, but it will be very difficult.

This crime was not committed by an Ex BF (in my opinion) – not at all. I also believe if the exact COD were released and what happened to Morgan – most would say that no one she knew could be that cold-hearted. A crime like this one – with no remorse and no compassion is normally committed by someone unknown and no ties to the victim. The victim is an object and not a person with real feelings, real dreams, real aspirations and people who love her. I also believe he left the body to be discovered. He was probably kind of shocked it took so long – and he likes to watch his horror unfold. He’s probably been getting impatient waiting for her to be discovered. I do not believe he placed her where he did in hopes that she would never be discovered – quite the opposite. If he didn’t want Morgan found he would have taken the steps to ensure that aspect.

There are the initial crimes Morgan and then the aftermath – right now he is enjoying the secondary portion of his crime and that is seeing her parents – and all who loved her – in the tremendous pain he CAUSED. This is a very very cold-hearted person. When this all shakes out – I don’t think we’ll be seeing a remorseful person at all.

Due to the time of Morgan’s death and her discovery – it may be difficult for the ME to know everything that happened to her – however, I am confidant that a clear picture emerged. And a much more indepth profile of her killer emerged.

In the last three months – and from what I have read – the police would have found something to indicate if this was a person known to Morgan – They have never given that indication to my knowledge and I don’t know as much as some on this board and I readliy admit that.

In order to solve this case – the best first step is someone has a cell phone that can be triangulated to the arena and to the the cell tower closest to the farm on the night Morgan disappeared. Seeing as this person may have disabled Morgan’s phone – he may have also took the battery out of his.

A case as complicated as this one and will ultimately rely much more on the technical aspects to produce the suspect – unlike a KNOWN killer / friend / associate, where the person would be interviewed and make statements that could be verified and disputed.

I can’t believe that the police are totally incompetent and screwing up the investigation – but more or less – just don’t know who committed the crimes yet. They are doing everything they can to figure this out – but it’s complicated and may take some time. Crimes of opportunity are always hard to solve and this may be no different.

Rob re: your disturbing but excellent post (Feb. 2, 2010 at 7:07 pm)

First, I’m sorry to learn about your friend being murdered. What a horrible memory to live with. But, it does seem to guide your insight here on the board. You pointed out:

“… I also believe he left the body to be discovered. He was probably kind of shocked it took so long – and he likes to watch his horror unfold. He’s probably been getting impatient waiting for her to be discovered. I do not believe he placed her where he did in hopes that she would never be discovered – quite the opposite. If he didn’t want Morgan found he would have taken the steps to ensure that aspect.”

That certainly would explain the hidden-but-bound-to-be-found location in which she was placed. And to that point, do you think she was killed there, or dumped there after the fact?
    You also noted:

“… In the last three months – and from what I have read – the police would have found something to indicate if this was a person known to Morgan – They have never given that indication to my knowledge …”

That’s the theory I’ve come around to accepting. Her “knowns” were college-age kids and aging hippies. I give the half-a-dozen LE agencies involved in this high-profile/pressure case enough nut-cracking credit that they wuld have surely figured out the perp by now if it was someone in her life.
And no arrest announced more than a week after she was found only solidies that notion for me.

“… A case as complicated as this one and will ultimately rely much more on the technical aspects to produce the suspect – unlike a KNOWN killer / friend / associate, where the person would be interviewed and make statements that could be verified and disputed.”

    Exactly. Well-played, Rob.

    Blink,

I apologize if this is a double-post. I am new to the site and have been bouncing around the various MH threads. Not certain if my earlier comment reached you, so here it is again.

I saw your question to Chris’ earlier post this evening regarding possible Wiccan involvement. I recalled reading a post on another BOC MH thread that also mentioned Wiccan activity so thought I would bring it over FWIW…..

Excerpt from post by “Viet” on Feb 1:

“Some odd thoughts: 1) for some reason, Keene, VA (southeast on State Route 712 from North Garden) has come to mind, 2) several vehicular deaths (3 w/in a week after Oct. 17) a few miles south of Rt. 29 & Red Hill Rd.(Anchorage Farm area) at the intersection of Plank Rd./Rt. 29-S that traffic officers found strange and alarming, 3) northwest of this intersection is reputed to be a wiccan location, & just before Halloween, 4) Routes 708 and 712 connect Rt. 29 eastward to Route 20, in a very rural area of the county, and these two Rt. 29 intersections are within miles of where MDH’s body was found, & 5) Rt. 29-South (south of Charlottesville and Interstate 64) has few places to cross over & drive back north.”

As a newbie to BOC, I just want to say that I am awed by the intelligence and insight of the posters, as well as the compassion and respect you have shown Morgan, her family and each other. And, kudos to you Blink for your most excellent skills as moderator.

I pray for a quick resolution to this case, so that the Harringtons will know who did this unspeakable thing to their precious daughter and that this person will receive the punishment he deserves.

    Remembering Morgan Dana Harrington 1989-2009
    ON FEBRUARY – 1 – 2010

The world has lost its best hugger. The incomparable Morgan Dana Harrington was torn from us on October 17, 2009.

Morgan, age 20, was a shiny, loving, beautiful original. She was very much loved by her family, her friends, and her community, which has now expanded to include much of the world. We cherish the time we had with Morgan and are grateful for the breadth and variety of experiences we were able to share in her tragically abbreviated life.
Morgan was born on July 24, 1989 in Charlottesville, Virginia and killed there in October 2009. She was an avid music fan, a champion of children’s rights, and planned a career in education.

To recognize some of Morgan’s passions we ask that, in lieu of flowers, gifts to honor Morgan’s memory be made to the Morgan Dana Harrington Memorial Scholarship at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine or to OMNI – Orphan Medical Network International, an organization that provides medical care in Africa. Scholarship donations may be mailed to: Virginia Tech, Attn: Gift Accounting, University Development (0336), Blacksburg, VA 24061, and OMNI donations to 6930 Empire Lane, Roanoke, VA 24018.

Our reconfigured family, Dan, Gil and Alex plan on honoring Morgan with a Mass on February 5, 2010 at 3:30 PM at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Roanoke, Virginia followed by a reception to celebrate Morgan’s life at the Hotel Roanoke.

We are grief stricken by her death but also lifted by the knowledge that Morgan Dana Harrington was precious to so many and will not be forgotten. She mattered, to us all.
