Morgan Harrington Murder: Rumors Of A Suspects Arrest

Posted by BOC Staff | Alex Harrington,Amy Melvin,Dan Harrington,Gil Harrington,Morgan Harrington,Murdered,Sara Snead | Thursday 28 January 2010 3:11 pm

Charlottesville, VA– This afternoon, originating on a VT Athletics Site rumors clogged the web that a suspect was placed under arrest for the murder of Morgan Harrington. After my 20th comment in 10 minutes and 12th email inquiry about it, I went to the source.

Crime scene

..There has been no arrest. It is an unfounded rumor and I have no idea how or where it started. I can only assume it stemmed from the fact that we completed our investigation of the crime scene at Anchorage Farm early this afternoon, I guess I will probably have to put out an email this afternoon..”

– Corrine Geller, PR Manager for VSP to Blink

As exclusively reported yesterday on blinkoncrime.com, it is expected that the  and VSP upcoming conversations with those on the list with permission to hunt on Anchorage Farm, will propel the investigation into the murder of Morgan Harrington quickly.

However, Virginia State Police are not discussing whether or not they have a person of interest or suspect in this case.

There is however, unreleased new information and new evidence gleaned from the crime scene. VSP will not disclose what personal effects were found with Morgan’s remains at this time.

The viral arrest rumor was not the only odd occurrance today.

In what appears to be an unrelated coincidence, an explosive device was detinated on the train tracks close to James Madison University this morning. A nearby dorm has been evacuated in connection with materials found at the scene, and a criminal investigation has been launched by the ATF.

JMU is the school several of Morgan’s friends attend, and from where the group departed to attend the Metallica Concert that fateful night of October 17, 2009.

Check back to blinkoncrime.com for updates to this developing story.

I watched the interview with the Harringtons after the candlelight vigil and my immediate concern was that they seemed so nochalant about finding who did this to Morgan. They talked about closure now that she’s found, but there wasn’t a fire to find the person responsible which would seem the natural response. I understand we all grieve in our own ways, but that approach doesn’t seem to motivate LE to work harder. Those inside the case say that LE did not think originally that this was a crime. They obviously do now so they are pedaling fast to catch up, but so much potential evidence was lost in that hesitation. And if that isn’t the truth, I haven’t seen LE come out with actual facts. Lots of speculation, but they have been tight lipped with facts.

Last night I sat thinking about that field. Looking at the photo attached to Blink’s article. Along with looking at the pic and reading the Hook article.

    snipped:
“Wrapping around the western and northern borders of Anchorage, the neighborhood comprises lots no smaller than 21 acres, and one of them appears to provide an open, level field over which a car could travel to within 100 feet of where Morgan’s remains were discovered– all while remaining out of the sightline of the nearby mansions. And according to another Blandemar resident, police spent a significant period of time analyzing and photographing the area around the cul-de-sac that leads to the field.”

“Even if someone could have driven so close, he or she would still have had to traverse those last 100 feet on foot in order to cross a creek and, according to the resident, multiple barbed wire barriers.”

    http://www.readthehook.com/blog/index.php/2010/02/01/multiple-riddles-harringtons-body-creates-new-mysteries-angles/

100 yards away then they would have had to make it through a creek and over at least one fence.
Georgie said this would have been dirty work. Not as dirty as one would think.
I remember Misty Mountain C.ground had pics of a jeep off road weekend from May. (Another one was in the fall, no dates were given or pics)There are pics of the jeeps traveling up creeks, and over creeks. The jeeps in May were not muddy.

A hay field in October, would not be muddy. The trek back over the creek would have cleaned much of the mud away. Also, it was raining that night, helps to wash away some more mud and helps to explain some mud being there.

Some of the jeeps pictured were very high up on wheels. If the person was driving a vehicle like this, it possibly would have been high enough to open the back gate of the truck and push Morgan off, or pick her up from it, and carry her across one other fence? more? to the final resting place. So, 100 yards thru a creek over some barbed wire fences seems more plausible……

Please check out the pics, be sure to click on the ones with creek.

  6. DesertGirl says:

Just a quickie. Okay, two quickies, both re the “kickee”.

Maybe Morgan was kicking him because he was trying to “take” her. Her kicking at hime was her effort to try to get away from him. And her “playfully” kicking later, when and if she was , in fact, was walking through “the lot” with others? That was her telling the story about the jerk who was pulling at her.

Or second, perhaps she was kicking at him because she wanted him to “go along” with her plan to get away from someone else. As in, someone else was “after” her or following her, or bothering her, and she linked arms with the kickeee as if to say, “I’m with him,” and when kickeee didn’t “get it” – she kicked at him. (like a nudge under the table, or a hidden and knowing wink).

Aside from that, I have zero ideas that have not already been bantered about here.

Observer: Oh, thanks for thinking of me! Means so much. Thanks too everyone really. It’s been so stressful. My father was moved to a skilled nursing facility. He still is a little confused. They ruled out a stroke thank god, and I will be driving over there Friday. My siblings stress me out too. I’m exhausted. Thanks for your support. I certainly feel it from you, and others here.

J2K: Would you be so kind to post Rob’s post Feb 2nd 4:15am ie profile unsub? I searched and could not find it. I am trying to play catch up with the reading the posts, and adjust to the new format. Forum format challenged right now.
Also I’m proud to be a Gemini. There 2 of us to love you know! Not sure which one I am today.

Wordgirl: What wonderful words to us. I agree, we are all encompassing, elclectic group here, all shapes colors, sizes, a collage of hearts all bound, and drawn together by one beautiful shining star that we have come to know, Morgan Harrington.

Hummingbird: I have to admit, my husband does the dishes and laundry. I too spend way to much time on this site. I have a flat rear-end from sitting in this chair at my desk! It’s hard not to come and visit and read all the incredible posts by all. I know exactly what you mean!

Mouse: Loved your and Rageo exchange. I too believe that those words (Gil Harringtons) actually meant something to someone. The timing is so close. Perhaps he/they moved her.
Also, it takes a special person to work in rescue. You have a big heart. Animal lover myself. I was a foster mom a while back, but that was a little stressful for my boys, my “bear” (black lab), and hubby.Unfortunately, the dogs we had taken in had some problems. I’m not trained with dogs with “issues”.
Good day all, I hope we hear something soon……..

RE: Word Girl, you described this BOC gang so well, i.e., “Our people: They feel. They think. They write. They don’t care if someone writes them back. They have questions. They try to get the answers. They do the work. They don’t ask if someone can clue them in. They also know they are vulnerable, never right, in the grace of the universe. They want to know they matter. The flexible minds and best writers get a lot of attention, but there are some of us who are watching. We are watching and waiting for any clue, in any form, and will not play any games. We read between the lines. And we look between the rows. We blend our rural and urban and don’t think twice about bringing justice to anyone responsible for a crime, especially crimes against children.”

As usual, beautifully said, WG! [Your moniker is an apt one.] The heartfelt sentiments of so many of the posters on this site are simply amazing…and heartwarming.

Skyler, I read your post, and the Native American Prayer is one of the most beautiful prayers. Morgan certainly came to gods arms with clean hands and straight eyes. To the killer of Morgan if perhaps you are lurking here please read:

    NATIVE AMERICAN PRAYER

    Oh, great Spirit
Whose voice I hear in the winds,
And whose breath gives life to all the world
Hear me, I am small and weak
    I need your wisdom.
Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset.
Make my hands respect the things that you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice.
Make me wise so that I may understand the things you have taught my people.
Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock.
I seek strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy, myself.
Make me always ready to come to you, with clean hands and straight eyes.
So when life fades, as the fading sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame.

    S Jones – February 3, 2010 @ 9:53

I tried to clarify a little last night, but it did not get posted.

    By statute:

First Degree Murder is a murder, other than capital murder (see statute above), by:

    1. poison
    2. lying in wait
    3. imprisonment
    4. starving
    5. any willful, deliberate, and premeditated killing, OR
    6. in the commission of, or attempt to commit, arson, rape, forcible sodomy, inanimate or animate object sexual penetration, robbery, burglary, or abduction

Second Degree Murder (also called Felony Homicide) is an accidental killing while in the prosecution of some felonious act OTHER THAN: arson, rape, forcible sodomy, inanimate or animate object sexual penetration, robbery, burglary, or abduction.

Second Degree Murder is a lesser included offence of First Degree Murder.

The judge can allow jury instructions only if supported by the evidence; “MORE THAN A SCINTILLA” of evidence is necessary for a lesser-included offense instruction.

    [ A second degree murder instruction is only appropriate where it is supported by evidence. Justus v. Commonwealth, 222 Va. 667, 678, 283 S.E.2d 905, 911 (1981), cert. denied, 455 U.S. 983, 102 S.Ct. 1491, 71 L.Ed.2d 693 (1982); Painter, 210 Va. at 367, 171 S.E.2d at 171. Moreover, the evidence asserted in support of such an instruction "must amount to more than a scintilla." Justus, 222 Va. at 678, 283 S.E.2d at 911; Hatcher v. Commonwealth, 218 Va. 811, 814, 241 S.E.2d 756, 758 (1978).]

    Buchanan v. Commonwealth, 238 Va. 389, 409-10, 384 S.E.2d 757, 769 (1989).

So, it appears, if there is sufficient evidence, the judge can give a lesser included offense instruction, and the jury can decide.

I am sorry if it sounds like I am criticizing VA law enforcement. I don’t intend to, but if they don’t apprehend this creep, it makes Virginia seem like a good place to commit murder and not get caught.
ie: The two young women on Skyline Drive, Alicia Reynolds on Rt. 29. Both in 1996.
Not to mention all those couples in the Colonial Parkway murders.
The only reason Richard Evonitz was caught was due to that brave 15 yr. old in SC escaping and getting help. That coward killed himself before he could be arrested. He murdered those three young girls in Fredericksburg some years ago. That was heartbreaking too.
It makes me ill to think that the killer of Morgan may get away. I pray not.
My prayers are with Morgan’s family and it is so unfair that they will never be able to host the college graduation, wedding reception
as someone on here said her poor father said.
Here’s praying law enforcement catches this monster.

Purse Broken Strap: early on a rumor had it the strap was broken. Currently, I do believe it has been confirmed that it was not broken. L E has never released a picture of the purse, nor addressed the condition of the purse in any public press release.

Morgans state of mind: It has been confirmed by LE in a later press release that Morgan had been drinking. Also, there have been several witnesses that have come forward saying she was dropping her purse, and someone else described her as “wobbly”.
There is a wealth of information on this thread, including links to printed news pieces/articles that may provide you with answering your questions , if you have time, go back into the archives there is more than 5 additional threads that you can build a timeline and fact sheet with.

Posts are piling up —Lady Blink must be up that tree again — J2K was wondering about vehicle tracks !! Please allow my opinion — If entry to the little meadow (where MH was found)was from Anchorage then no tracks would be made as the large field between Anchorage Private Road and the little lane to the meadow is a cow pasture . Cattle eat everything to the ground and are constantly walking or laying down .Cow pastures have everyhing eaten or beaten to the ground . The aireal in the papers shows the big field in question to be polluted with cattle .

  21. oblio says:

Hopefully this is not too off topic, but interesting comments in latest article in the Hook regarding the possibility that police are telling bloggers to stand down. It seems the police told the journalist from the Hook to stand down on investigation she was doing, too. I have no idea if this is common practice or is often done:

    snip

Although these names are public record, the Hook has chosen not to repeat them here since no information suggests their involvement. A reporter’s call to Pine Grove went unreturned, and a conversation with another offender’s family resulted in a call from the Virginia State Police, cautioning the newspaper that such inquiry could constitute harassment or even obstruction of justice. (Not likely to stick, say civil libertarians.)

    Later in the same article:

While commenters over the past few weeks on both Facebook and Findmorgan.com have fretted that police were deleting their posts, some of which did seem to disappear, Geller disputes the charge of strong-arming blog moderators and says police have never removed a post or encouraged a moderator to do so.

“We have no intention of going after anybody based on information,” says Geller. “If people are willing to put info out there, it’s for public consumption.”

  22. Just Desserts says:

Referring to Slowroller’s post at 1:27PM, I’m happy you brought up scalpers. Back when the Help Find Morgan website was getting rolling, that was a concern that I expressed, and there was some sentiment for a UVa Police crackdown on scalpers who, in basketball season here, often seem to lurk in those bank parking lots that flank the bridge on both sides of Copeley Rd., out of sight of the officers who direct traffic nearer JPJ coliseum. (Has anything been done?– I don’t know; might find out when the college baseball season draws me over there again.) But I can certainly see the possibility that a locked-out Morgan could have been approached by a discreet “scalper” offering to sell her a ticket “over there,” by the RV lot or the bridge– and learning lately that her debit(?) card may have been used that night, possibly even at an ATM at one of those banks by the bridge, sure does nothing to dilute that possibility. One thing to note: such ticket scalpers seldom work solo; pairs or rings is their usual organizational MO.

VSP has never heard of him, unless they have by now-
    B

And on your points about the infamous “kickee”– isn’t it about time he was given his 15 minutes of fame in a centerstage spotlight by VSP? Chances are, strange but harmless, but you’ll never know unless you give him a chance to yarn it out further.

  25. skyler says:

    Hi, Guys —

Just some thoughts — I still feel in my bones Morgan was running from that man in the rain and this is where he caught up to her and ended her life then just left her behind where she lay —

also, the rain issue — I don’t think people would be looking toward that field to look for tracks — the weather was just crud and people probably were not out and about the next few days — especially with parcels that large — 21 acres is a lotta land – it was also football season, which guys would be inside watching football, and then Monday a work day …. also, if the perp had a 4-wheel drive vehicle, lots of people go “off roading” in the area, so a dirty car wouldn’t really be out of the ordinary — but whomever posted about the car wash is certainly viable —

Also on the 44 y/o alleged kickee — this is not my original thought, but I don’t know who to give credit to, whether it’s here or at findmorgan or FB — but instead of her saying: let’s go — maybe she was saying: LET GO !! and gave him a kick to show she meant it —

Even impaired, I believe Morgan was smart and a fighter — she’s not going down easy —

And the ME — it’s so difficult being patient, but give them some time to do their job — the Va. Chief ME is an incredible woman — she is also compassionate — I have worked w/ her in the past on both criminal and civil cases — I am positive they have a COD, but are awaiting tests results before making a positive determination — plus — under Va. law, the ME report is confidential to LE if there is suspicious criminal activity involved — so we may not know until bad guy in jail and the family may be the ones to release that info before trial — I just don’t know — just rest assured, Morgan was in good hands who treated her tenderly and thoroughly.

And Frank Speaker, I just have to take exception to your description of the typical Metallica concert goer — Metallica is not my genre of music, and I knew them when they first started — but my son and his friend were at that concert — both young men are clean shaven w/ hair cuts — and there’s plenty of Ralph Lauren hanging in my kid’s closet — (right beside those Metallica t-shirts)

I only mean by that — I don’t think we can lump people together and say Morgan is attracted to one type of male or another — for ex., I loved Orlando Bloom as the Elf in Lord of the Rings — didn’t like his dark looks in the Pirate movies — women’s perrogative : )

We may never know why Morgan left that concert — but once outside, she tried to get back in — and that is where it seems everyone failed her.

Frank, you have some saliant points, but we here like mushy, too — our hearts are w/ each other and w/ Morgan and her family, so we can’t just help ourselves!

I have to leave my little country house to go into the city tomorrow, and I was thinking about how I should dress, and thought about Gil, again, having to think about what to wear to Morgan’s memorial service —

prayers of strength to them all –

I would also believe that anyone who has a genuine love of music, such as Morgan, would also have a wide variety of music that they listen to.

It was said you cannot get back even with your old ticket. I understand that, but could you have gotten back in with a scalper’s new ticket? Looks like her friends would have chipped in with the money to get one if she could have got in. When it gets late, I think but not sure, the scalpers prices come down. I would hope so.
the friends could have pushed the money through the gate maybe.

  33. kate says:

I think when she left her friends she thought she was just going to the restroom. When girls are tipsy they kiss and hug each other good bye. So the kiss never meant, “I won’t be back”. Then she got a phone call in the bathroom to meet someone outside to talk. The person said he had an extra ticket, so she could get back in the concert after they talked. She lets her friends know at some point that she’s outside. She went outside, talked, got in an argument, maybe he grabbed at her and left a mark on her face, and BG left. She’s walking around crying. She then discovers she can’t get back in. While she’s hitchhiking the BG pulls up, tells her he’s sorry, and talks her into getting in the car. He planted the purse later.

I’m a scorpian, but have no idea what that means!

LE did not make certain posts be removed, right? THEY DENY IT IN THE HOOK ARTICLE

And, still no arrests. NOT FOR MORGAN’S MURDER

Hope that helps. I get overwhelmed by the amount of posts sometimes too.

    Response from blink…

My take is she is going to be looking at copyright infringement at a minimum for scraping posts owned by this site without permission and out of context. Then, she is going to clarify or retract the comments of posters with sex crimes and criminal pasts. Neither one of those are affiliated with posters on this site and I won’t stand for such an accusation.

I for one was very offended by that article, it makes it look like everyone here or the other Morgan forums are just a bunch of nuts. It would have been nice if she had pointed out to those that have never visited this type of forum, those types of comments are very rare. For every crazy comment she posted, there are thousands of heartfelt comments from normal everyday people that truely care. Kenny said she was not referring to all of us, just a few but I know if I had never been here or findmorgan, I wouldn’t want to after seeing those types of comments.
Keep up the good work Blink!

    Good day all.

I was wondering if there was someone that could do me a favour and check for me if there’s a report filed for an assault & battery on UVA grounds on Nov 20 or 21? Need something confirmed as false.

Computer is giving me grief this today – suprised I could ven post here.

Would tire tracks even be noticed in a 41-acre lot? The Blandemar house sits on 21 acres and then there’s an additional 20 acres that borders the treeline and the Bass property line. If the perp drove along the edge of the trees at the far west end of the Blandemar property I think it’s very possible his tracks could go unnoticed.

41 acres is a lot of land and if you’re semi-retired or retired and your surrounding acreage is for privacy and not farmland, I believe it’s very possible to not notice tire tracks at the edge of your property.

And even if tracks were noticed, let’s say a week later, would the owners be concerned? Maybe. Maybe not. They might chalk it up to someone trying to access the farm from the back end, maybe a farm hand or a hunter.

I’ve wondered about the choice to not bury the body. It makes me think that it was more of an issue of not enough time and not having a shovel than a desire to eventually have Morgan’s body be discovered. In all respects it is truly incredible that she was found.

so if someone called her to come outside, and then she was seen by Granny arguing, and Granny heard a smack sound, she them in an arm lock. He walked off, away, she walked back towards the arena, he then turned and came back to her. I hope LE is talking to Granny who didn’t want to be identified as well as the man that she kicked, he didn’t want to be identified, 30 minutes between Granny and kickee. The kickee never called LE with the Morgan sighting, knowing everyone was looking for her. But he spoke to a reporter? Only the reporter knows who he is???

Blink, if someone hasn’t already pointed this article out to you, I think you should take a look at it since this site, as well as actual posts on it, were included in it.

Oops, I think I forgot the link to the article. It’s http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-30376-Private-Investigations-Examiner~y2010m2d3-The-hunt-for-Morgan-Harringtons-killer.

I also forgot to mention the author touts herself as a private investigator who has been contacted with many leads. Interesting since she’s licensed to practice in California. Seems to me she’s another person who can be lumped in with the other people (kickee, etc.) who have gotten their moment in the spotlight without any regard to Morgan or her family.

You can listen to the Grateful Dead’s “Ramble On Rose” for free online in an open source audio project at http://www.archive.org . It is a song by Jerry Garcea and Robert Hunter and is a typical GD tragedy song. It has been said Morgan had this songs lyrics painted on her bed room wall. It is haunting. IMO.

  46. S Jones says:

    Starbucks, thanks.
    That is very goos news.

Now we need that perp in jail.

I am going to focus on the funeral and let the dicussions go for a little while.

We buried my cousin last week at age 48, an I said this:
Be carefull, look at eachother’s faces. Smile, behind the smiles even those who seem so strong are certainly in pain.

The ones with a shield, are like warriors. But should they stumble, the weight of the shields and the metal within makes it harder get back up.
    Look out for each other.
    Please.

May Peace be with all that attend and those who cannot.
She is in a better place.

    My respects to the family.

    Blink, for your eyes only.

I apologize for posting the Examiner article after it has already been addressed. I’m receiving the posts via RSS feed on Firefox but must not have it set up properly. For some reason I’m not seeing every post.

I was not clear in separating the 2 thoughts in my comments.

I think that LE knows why she left the arena and so do the friends, just not releasing it. I too believe it’s crucial. Maybe friends (and BB players) were told NOT to talk. Let’s face it, I am sure she told the BB players where she was headed, what happened, etc – she did talk to them for like 10 minutes, right? LE does not want this info made public and I believe that is the reason for the silence from the friends and players. Still don’t like the infamous party pics of Morgan’s friends just days after that fatefull October day.

Did they check for finger-prints on the purse and contents (card, wallet, etc). I am of the belief that it was dumped there after.

They say that there was a mountain of evidence found at the scene but are not releasing what, I believe it is because of waiting on all the forensice to come back.

They say it was homicide but no talk as to the COD, not even to say undetermined. I think that they know COD and, again, not releasing it.

No word on if they hunting cameras caught anything.

Glad you have your gander up. Thank you. Lose cannon over there. I nhope she did serious damage. That article was bull.
Luvblink: She insuated that not only are we at best insightful and nuts,, but we are criminals with a VERY peppered and extensive criminals, and we are all hiding are secret pasts!
I found it terribly insulting as well. I care about this case deeply . I’m not a mom with past. Does a speeding ticket count for criminal activity.

    TY, has been deleted.
