Morgan Harrington Murder: Harringtons Debut Morgan Rocks

Posted by BOC Staff | Alex Harrington,Anchorage Farm,Dan Harrington,Gil Harrington,Morgan Harrington,Murdered | Wednesday 17 March 2010 12:28 pm

Charlottesville, VA- Continuing the crusade to memorialize their daughter Morgan and keep the public focused on the dangerous killer(s) still at large,  Dan and Gil Harrington will be meeting with media today at 1PM.

The meeting agenda will include the Harrington’s ongoing concerns for womens safety on and off campus, and their fears associated with the fact that there has not been an arrest in their daughters murder to date.

BOCMorganBridgePainting

The Harringtons are also expected to announce MORGAN ROCKS.

In response to a hand-painted river rock, lovingly and generously created and delivered to the Copely bridge by blinkoncrime.com contributor Skyler, containing the phrase “Rock On”; The Harringtons have decided to widen the trend.

MORGAN ROCKS

We are starting a “gathering of rocks” at Morgan’s memorial on

Morgan’s Bridge at Copeley Road on the North Grounds of the University of Virginia. When you come to Charlottesville and to the bridge bring a rock and a prayer to add to the collection. Leave both at the bridge!

Morgan, Gil, Alex and I continue to need your support and prayers as we wait for Morgan’s murder(s) to be brought to justice. Your support in raising society’s awareness of the need to change the culture of acceptance of violence against women and in so doing change the laws that allow these crimes to go unpunished.

Skyler’s slate rock was the first. A beautiful painted slate rock with an image of Anchorage Farm, Tibetan prayer flags and an angel rising to the heavens. Morgan, Rock ON!!!

Dan Harrington

Just bringing us back to 1920 Red Hill. Has that (or any) local residences been searched? Blink, can you tell us if any houses/buildings anywhere at all have been thoroughly searched for evidence of Morgan? I’ll even leave it open, throw us a biscuit crumb: Has LE searched any building not necessarily as a crime scene, but to place her somewhere in the vicinity of the Farm?

In another thread: juliemooly said on March 9, 2010 at 10:33 am
…. His family’s real estate firm used to list the unfinished 1920 Red Hill Road house, among others in Blandemar farm, but dropped them this year, and only lists acreage in that area now.

I swear I found an old listing, I can’t find my screen shot. When did the new Real Estate office start handling it? Why did owner switch? Could be simple as need a fresh agent to try to sell it. Or perhaps more sinister as someones kid knows about the lock-boxes and the house was used w/o permission.

And yes, Alexandra @ 11:37 am, we were on the same line of thought.. I forgot about the BIB. Why not come forward: “Hey, that might’ve been us, we were walking with my girlfriend, etc.” But no, let’s stay silent. So, BIB, is it silence of guilt or total apathy? And we’re surprised at what BG’s can do?

Won’t it be a thrill to find out that LE had it all under control and not concerned about another attack due to surveillance?

Kim: “So who’s to say BG didn’t do his deed quickly and back to where he was expected to be. Especially if not pre-meditated. Again, too many crime shows.. but he got a thrill from cowardly overpowering a girl, escalated, continued his rage/thrill and sorry, but he could’ve had her in the trunk and returned to the arena. I suggest that if someone wants to wonder how how he could get back in time. It might be hard for some to go there… but I can see it. You have to remove yourself from the emotion and just walk thru it. He would be happpy, thrilled, breathless.. his friends might think “oh, smiley must’ve hooked up w/ some hot chick, he’s all sweaty and out of breath and grinning from ear to ear”.

This may be in response to my previous post and I agree that it is possible the BG could’ve killed her and either had her in his trunk or even left her at the place of the attack and went back to the concert – only to take her body to AF later that night.
Although if she were still alive once they got to AF and she was “hunted like a deer” like Gil speculated yesterday, then I’d think it all took place in a sequence that didn’t include him going back to the concert by the time it was over.
But right now, I guess since the BG returning to the concert by the time it was over can’t be ruled out, then it still remains in as a possibility.

i have a feeling that the silence from LE is due to the fact that someone has fingered Eppard. does anyone know how Eppard was laid to rest?? an exhumation would take some time to retrieve a warrant to do, and time to actually do, unless they have his DNA profile on file??

    Blink??

this would explain no need to “warn” the public, although a pretty big gamble on the part of LE to trust their “source” to that degree…

  5. Justice says:

#47: cvillenative- in reference to your thoughts about the murder weapon being recovered…

Could it be that the murder weapon wasn’t recovered and this is why the FBI asked for assistance from the local bicyclists? Maybe the FBI wasn’t so much looking for them to have noticed an unusual vehicle or person in the area, but something that could have been thrown out a car window near the side of the road or muddy tire tracks coming back onto the road. Think peripheral vision if you will…

“Roanoke County Police Sgt. Jeff Herrick said he felt compelled to be there, taking a day off from work to help. “I just felt compelled that with two daughters of my own that like to go to concerts, the thought of something like this happening just boggles the mind.“

Sgt. Herrick’s daughter has been best friends with Morgan Harrington for more than ten years. His daughter is one of “the nine,“ a group of close friends who grew up with Morgan in Roanoke County.”

Crimewriter, Sgt. Herrick’s daughter is Maggie Herrick, a friend of Morgan’s (and, yes, one of ‘the nine’).

Maggie Herrick is not seen on this news video, however, two others are: Sarah Snead and Rachel Livesay.

It was on Rachel Livesay’s Facebook page that I found the ‘Halloween & 21st Birthdays’ photo set (which included photos of Sarah Snead, Amy Melvin, and Maggie Herrick in Halloween costumes partying their fool heads off, along with some snaps of Morgan Nichols & Dan Cassagne).

Maggie Herrick is seen here, top row, third from left:

    Gil Harrington’s thoughts from March 17th, 2010On March – 17 – 20101 COMMENT
The nights can be difficult. When you are between sleep and wake your defenses dip and then unwanted thoughts and images come roaring in. I try not to think of how scared you were, the terror you felt. I try not to think of how much pain you were in as you were slaughtered.
Were you still alive when they brought you to Anchorage Farm? To be hunted like a deer running frantically over the hay stubble in the field desperate to escape, trying to survive, crying, screaming, I see it. I hear it. Or, were you brought there already dead, like a slab of meat, carrion to be discarded and dumped in the field to rot – just another carcass in the hunting preserve.
These images haunt me at night. During the day I can usually shake them off and focus on our job, trying to find your murderer. Other girls are in danger while this sadistic monster walks free. We will never rest until he is put away. Morgan will you help us, in what ever way you can to remove his evil from the world?

Gils words break my heart and sadly remind me of a story I read in school as a child called THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME.

Taken from THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME:
“It will be light enough in Rio,” promised Whitney. “We should make it in a few days. I hope the jaguar guns have come from Purdey’s. We should have some good hunting up the Amazon. Great sport, hunting.”
“The best sport in the world,” agreed Rainsford.
“For the hunter,” amended Whitney. “Not for the jaguar.”
“Don’t talk rot, Whitney,” said Rainsford. “You’re a big-game hunter, not a philosopher. Who cares how a jaguar feels?”
“Perhaps the jaguar does,” observed Whitney.
    “Bah! They’ve no understanding.”
“Even so, I rather think they understand one thing–fear. The fear of pain and the fear of death.”
    —————–
Her comments also make me think of a few videos from YouTube made by some local POI where they are hunting humans. The thought of this sort of sick person/s still loose makes me hold my children a little closer at night. God, I pray that your justice will be served.

  13. lily says:

Well there’s no doubt that the male (and female) role models in boys and young men’s lives make a huge impact on how they do or do not objectify girls and women. My boys have always had the advantage of seeing the women in their families treated respectfully and kindly. But let’s face it, they’re always up against the negative messages portrayed in the internet, media, movies, video games and yes even the music Morgan loved. Boys that are only exposed to messages that objectify women, and do not see this as abnormal at home are less likely to see what’s wrong with that. Parents, grandparents, uncles, coaches, teachers and role models are so important to rounding out the hormones and negative messages that are so confusing at a crucial time in boy’s lives. It’s impossible to shelter boys from all of this stuff anymore.

Make no mistake, I’m not giving excuses. Whoever did this made evil choices and no message they got from elsewhere were enough to override simple basic human compassion. But I do think that the fewer boys that have strong parenting to override the ‘its ok to be aggressive and look at women as sexual objects’ messages – more violent crimes against women and girls are going to happen.

I don’t know? More programs in school aimed at providing positive messages to males about women? It hasn’t worked to try to stop objectifying women because of free speech, blah blah blah. I don’t have the answers – I just know that some boys and young men are becoming warped because of it.

  14. Kathy says:

As for it being unlikely that he killed her and returned to the concert or some party, the other night I was watching 48 Hour mysteries about a girl who was left for dead after meeting one of her teachers. He raped, strangled and beat her to a pulp leaving her for dead in the woods and was filmed an hour later line dancing in a club with one woman (calm as could be) while texting several other students he was trying to hook up with. Looking at the video, you would never of suspected him of just committing that heinous act. They taped him taking the police to where he left her over 18 hours earlier in a cold, wet wooded area and he was calm as could be. She was beaten so bad that they were sure she was dead, until she let out a breath. They thought at first her neck was broken because of the way her arms were positioned. She is still recovering, she was paralyzed from the neck down but is now walking. She does have cognitive problems and probably always will, another bright and shiny girl who’s future was ripped away. I’m off to the CUE conference with Monica Caison, wish me luck as this is a new venture in my life that I feel Morgan and Blink have given me the confidence and determination to do. 2 4 1 Morgan!

  21. suz says:

    GRIM MATERIAL ALERT.

I guess it depends on which bones were shattered as to how easy it would be to do it by hand. Jaws can shatter fairly easily, while skulls not so much (and I’m thinking from Gil gazing into her eye sockets that those weren’t shattered). I don’t know. When folks used to question my lone perp scenario by asking how one guy would overpower her in the car I would always start to say that he’d just bang her on the head with a hammer (or big wrench) or punch her hard in the face and boop, she’d be out —but I could never bring myself to write it because I didn’t want her death to be violent or cruel. Ugh. Anyway, the ME will know if there are tool marks on the bones.

So I still think AF is the crime scene. Could be in the vehicle and on the grounds, or outdoors right where she was found. Maybe in the vehicle since sound travels—but it could have all happened very quickly. Not sure if it’s one brutal perp or if it’s some horrid ‘wilding’ teens. I still favor my loner weirdo, as I think teens tend to turn their cruelty on the unfortunate (setting homeless people on fire or abusing the physically or mentally challenged), but maybe there is no rhyme or reason to why people murder strangers—assuming they were strangers.

It’s all so very sad. Who did this to you, Morgan?

  22. suz says:

alexandra, maybe they meant the rich Polish lady in Blandemar (too lazy to look up the spelling—sometimes I call it Voldemort in my head) farm who winters in Miami. (shout out to my fellow Poles!) She’s an ambassador of sorts.

  23. searcher says:

A mod over at findmorgan.com said early in the investigation, that there was evidence related to Morgan’s disappearnance found on the train tracks. There was a lot of interest in the tracks as this all began. Also, the ATM usage, do we know where and for what or how much the transaction was for. I believe from earlier posts that this happened at 10:15 or 10:45??
RE: WT, his FB wall page does not have any comments relating to Morgan on day she was discovered, or since her discovery….that seems odd, especially if he indeed started the HFMDH FB page. He has also friended a Shifflet since Oct 2009.

  24. moon says:

i hope this isn’t inappropriate or presumptuous but here goes. …since someone just brought up WT again, i now feel like i can say something that i’ve been thinking about. this might be insignificant, but, i was looking at his most recent facebook profile photo. if you click on it so that it enlarges, you will see how terribly sad his eyes look. when i looked at the photo, i got a strange feeling; i’ve never seen such turmoil in someone’s eyes. it looks like he could cry. i wonder if he is wrestling with extremely difficult emotions or problems in his life. you can tell a lot from a person through their eyes. i’m in no way trying to accuse him of anything, i just found it interesting and wanted to share.

what if . . . I know, I know . . . They were partying & Morgan thought it was time to get back to the arena, everyone has imbibed by this time, and she started walking. Well say BG goes out to find her and the first thing he sees is a 4 – wheeler. He hops on & gets to thinking about his video games & when he gets to Morgan he starts taunting her, swerving at her, etc. She starts running sees the gate & climbs over. She yells “unglamorous” things at BG, takes of across the field thinking she’s away from him. He simply opens the gate & goes after her. Pretending he’s on a great steed (Unicorn), picks up a stick for a sword and actually chases her to where she wound up. Hitting her, running over her & breaking her bones. It’s horrible to imagine, I knowthat, but i also remember the crazy games I played on my 3 – wheeler. Look out Evil Knievel. Sorry so long for just ‘What ifs’.

  46. ConcernedBystander says:

Is it just me or does it seem like many of the people being mentioned here have a connection to Scintillation? Obviously some of these ppl run in the same circles so that would make sense. But after finding out the names of the 3 of the 4 people who lived in the North Garden house that burned down, they all are FB fans of Scintillation. Now that may not be too odd seeing how Cville is a rather small town and this group may just be that popular there. But, when you consider Cville has a population of over 45,000 people (and that would rise substantially once you throw in the surrounding communities and counties), and then consider that Scintillation has only 577 fans on it’s facebook site, then it makes you think that maybe it’s more than a just a coincidence that all of these people are connected.

It’s also interesting, imo, that several of the friends of those from the burned house are also friends of the other local rso, DLS, at least according to his myspace site. And I think it’s already been confirmed that DLS is also friends/acquaintances with the other NG rso.

Now I don’t know if the fire has anything to do with this case, but it is interesting how there is only a two degree separation between them and the rso’s – and also only a one or two degree separation between them and the Scintillation members CB and CA. And I think it was mentioned earlier but they are also friends with a ZL who works(ed) at JPJA.

TO: acho: When you said earlier to Lily “…but we have to tackle it in the tiny ways we can. There’s much you can do. Talk to your sons about Morgan and what happened to her. Talk to them about how they treat others, especially every female in their lives. Talk to them about what they’ll do the next time they see a woman in a compromised state. In that way, you are doing what you can to make a difference…”

The first word that came to my mind when reading that, acho, is a resounding “YES!” YES, we must talk to our sons and our brothers and our nephews and grandsons and, and, and. YES, they must know that aggression against women–in any of its forms, subtle or overt–is behavior that is unacceptable and will be challenged. YES, they must know that it’s ok to step when they see a woman in that compromised state. YES, they must know that they too can make a difference. They can effect change, one single person at a time.

Lily, just as acho said, we can all make a difference. It starts with you and it starts with me. We’re all on this journey together.

    Godspeed to us all.

When I went to university, a fellow student told me that someone had tried to rape her – it was in winter, around 6pm, she left the rail way station in the next town where she lived, and walked towards her bike which she had left a bit further down the street. Someone grabbed her from behind and dragged her into the bushes. She fought him off, hitting him on the chin with her elbow, and kicking him in the groin. She escaped and went straight to the police, who told her that she was provocatively dressed. They refused to investigate.

Just for the record, she wore a knee length woolen skirt, black boots – stylish, but no heels, and a warm winter coat. The police said it was a combination of the boots and the coat that triggered the attack.
