Morgan Harrington Murder: Harringtons Debut Morgan Rocks

Posted by BOC Staff | Alex Harrington,Anchorage Farm,Dan Harrington,Gil Harrington,Morgan Harrington,Murdered | Wednesday 17 March 2010 12:28 pm

Charlottesville, VA- Continuing the crusade to memorialize their daughter Morgan and keep the public focused on the dangerous killer(s) still at large,  Dan and Gil Harrington will be meeting with media today at 1PM.

The meeting agenda will include the Harrington’s ongoing concerns for womens safety on and off campus, and their fears associated with the fact that there has not been an arrest in their daughters murder to date.

BOCMorganBridgePainting

The Harringtons are also expected to announce MORGAN ROCKS.

In response to a hand-painted river rock, lovingly and generously created and delivered to the Copely bridge by blinkoncrime.com contributor Skyler, containing the phrase “Rock On”; The Harringtons have decided to widen the trend.

MORGAN ROCKS

We are starting a “gathering of rocks” at Morgan’s memorial on

Morgan’s Bridge at Copeley Road on the North Grounds of the University of Virginia. When you come to Charlottesville and to the bridge bring a rock and a prayer to add to the collection. Leave both at the bridge!

Morgan, Gil, Alex and I continue to need your support and prayers as we wait for Morgan’s murder(s) to be brought to justice. Your support in raising society’s awareness of the need to change the culture of acceptance of violence against women and in so doing change the laws that allow these crimes to go unpunished.

Skyler’s slate rock was the first. A beautiful painted slate rock with an image of Anchorage Farm, Tibetan prayer flags and an angel rising to the heavens. Morgan, Rock ON!!!

Dan Harrington

TO: localcvillegirl: Please rest assured that you are indeed not alone in your fears. I don’t fear for my personal safety, but I am absolutely fearful for young, female University students and other young women in CV.

College students–of all populations–are notoriously unaware of the need to be attendant to their own, personal safety. They somehow feel invincible, as though nothing bad could ever possibly happen to them…at least not during their otherwise carefree college years. In many (but not all) cases, life has not yet taught them the lesson of judicious caution.

And this is precisely why college and university communities are “target rich” for a BG.

I have preached–yes, admittedly “preached”–this for years to young women here in CV. [And no, I am not yet done preaching...]

I was the exact same way when I was an undergrad student. [I am quite literally appalled in retrospect.] I do not judge these women, any more than I judge Morgan. Judgement is reserved for the BG.

Until Morgan’s murderer is brought to justice, I will fear for our students…our young women in this community…for young women who will visit here.

I believe that fear and concern is well-placed.

TO: counselor4u: I again applaud your grassroots efforts to effect change by initiating the FB page. It is people just like you…and skyler…and fish…and so many others here that will indeed make a difference. One person, one day, at at time.

We shall overcome…overcome hate and violence against women.

JulieMooley..you ROCK. Thank you so much for doing that and I was so happy to read the words to the song “Take it Easy”. Glory Be! JUSTICE for dear Morgan Harrington.

thanks suz,i cant wrap my brain around the motivation for a brutal attack, other than a physical struggle,if she kicked the guy outside the arena, bet she kicked the perp,if she had the chance ,those heavy combat style boots.otherwise, left shoulder, huh?,does that necessarily mean he swings from the left?

Hey Blink and all! Happy first day of spring!

Kathy thank you so much for the update. I’m so happy you took an interest and were able to go. I hope much good comes out of it and I just know it will! Blessings to you and Dr. and Mrs. Harrington.

Julie thank you for the beautiful pictures you posted. I really like your Rock on picture strands. That is very unique and amazingly beautiful. I’m so glad you were able to go and thank you again for honoring Morgan’s memory and the Harrington family. Also, the pursuit of justice for Morgan! A hug for you!

I believe many police departments view juggaboos as “a gang”.
I’ve listened to some of ICP’s lyrics. Such talent.

I’ve decided to express my creative side too, and I wrote a song. I’d like to share:

It’s dedicated to Bad Guy. Here goes:

    You’re a tough guy
    You got power
    you mark your prey
    then you devour

    you think you’re smart
    you troll the scene
    your heart is cold
    your soul is mean

    you feel so good
    you must destroy
    it pumps you up
    poor little boy

    you had it bad
    so they must pay
    well every dog
    does have his day

    And yours, poor soul
    is yet to come
    the clock ticks loud
    oh man, you’re dumb

    you aren’t so smart
    you aren’t so tough
    the town of cville
    has had enough

    their sight’s on you
    you’re marked as prey
    you’ll be destroyed now
    oh any day

    All sing along now
    —-you’re gonna get indicted,
squeeze those cheeks, squeeze those cheeks
    you’re gonna get indicted
squeeze those cheeks, squeeze those cheeks

    PS. don’t drop the soap

  7. susanm says:

well ,if their facing each other,it would be his right, her left, very odd, though,i just think she managed to get away for a minute and he caught her. ok ,interesting ,am reading interviews for The Runaways, and cherie currie says they left the rape scene out the beginning of the movie, which she is fine with ,but she says the rape was her motivation ,she cuts her hair into the unflattering bowie half-hawk and put on the corset and joined the tough gang girl genre on purpose as a rebellion statement against being raped(by her twin sisters boyfriend).

Fish, please thank your quirky and kooky daughter for doing my kooky and quirky rock!! I’m honored and tickled.

And Fish, you are so right about Christine Sheddy’s kids (Haylie, Isaac, and Ezekiel)—they definitely have a tough road ahead, but it sure helps that it’s been determined that their mom was murdered rather than abandoning them the way the authorities kept insisting, although that’s a very tough reality in itself. Woof.

WT posted this on his FB page yesterday. I wonder why yesterday?”
    http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=11785571&id=505480153&fbid=10150132653785154

Don’t know why yesterday but in general, I guess it’s to “prove” that he was there with a ticket putting him in Sec. 311. Why he doesn’t show that part of the ticket, I do not know. The ticket shows row (J?) and seat number, but not section number. But I think we know that WT likes to play games.

I still think that WT had something to do with Morgan being outside of that arena. Notice that he mentions seeing Morgan at the Beer stand.

So… let’s see if we have this straight… The only two witnesses who seem to be believed, by LE, as to the last movements of Morgan are WT, seemingly hinting that Morgan was buying beer underage, and the young woman, MV, who claims to have seen her hitch-hiking. Both things paint Morgan in a negative light to LE.

Add Gil’s experience (as related to Jane Velez-Mitchell) that she was told by some authority that Morgan was “dressed provocatively” and it looks an awful lot like poor Morgan was perceived in a very negative light by at least one of those whose duty it was to find her.

  14. skyler says:

JulieMooly — what wonderful wonderful pictures — and I love your idea of the letters over rocks — Morgan would absolutely love it, as do I — thank you for sharing the pictures w/ us all who can’t be there —

The memorial has changed so much since just February — I love how it is evolving —

And yes, Suz, I am just thrilled how “Morgan Rocks” is being embraced — I can’t wait to see how it evolves — and then I’m hoping we can hurl a bunch of ‘em at the BG — sorry, but it’s how I feel : )

  15. skyler says:

Julia — LOL !! — me, too — one of my favorite memories of my child, it was NY’s Eve and we had gotten the DVD “Signs” and hadn’t watched it yet — it was freezing cold that year, and he was still small — I had a large couch, and we were snuggled up on the sofa, w/ a fire and watching Signs — I swear we’d pause it and throw the covers over our heads at the scarey parts — but one of my favorites scenes was where they were sitting there w/ tin foil beenies on their heads !

The radio speaks to me, too — it seems when I’m going thru really difficult times in my life, the song: ooh, ooh, girl, things are gonna get easier — will come on the radio — it gives me a warm hug !

I love the Eagles, and take it easy is great advice !!

Fish asked: “Also, one more. Did the gate on Red Hill Road look newer?
RedHilllocal: Do you know? Was it taken and replaced with a new or gently-used model?”
I thought the pics of the gate showed a newer gate, but I was just too busy to post about it at the time. I rode by and looked at the gates during the snow, mostly to confirm the location of each. I assumed before I got there that they would be closed, and they were. Pictures of the gate were posted on here approx. 2 weeks after I rode by and yes, that gate looks newer. The one I saw looked much older, bent and rusted. I don’t remember exactly when the pics were posted here, but I had actually emailed Blink some info about the gate on Feb. 14. Here’s my actual comment to Blink and a link to a pic of the gate:

“This is the gate that’s there but just several years old, bent up some and rusted:

    http://www.tractorsupply.com/fencing/gates/panel-gate-10-ft–3603221

In the pictures posted by TDBone on the findmorgan site, his post was March 2. So during that two week period, yes, I do think the gate was replaced. Here are the pics from TDBone.

Juliemooly, *love* the Morgan Rocks banner!

Kathy, wow, you are such an inspiration. Your experience illustrates the good things that can come out of people reaching out and connecting with each other. Information is power.

The Harringtons also are guiding the way in this, continuing to speak out and engage and connect with the community. It’s so heartening to see people on the comments boards of the various papers connecting with each other and sharing information. How much of the information we have has come from these comment boards? The internet has provided such a powerful new way for people to come together and have a voice! Blink is leading the way with this site, showing just how valuable this voice can be. It gives me hope for a new era where us everyday folks can come together and have a voice in the direction things take.

Everyone on this site has inspired me and given me new hope and I thank you all so much.

    Suz,
I so hate to insult you, but….your posts remind me so much of the way I think…lol….especially about the part of you googling bodies left in fields…

Also, I too am questioning whether Farmer Bass was home that weekend. I’ve seen conflicting news reports on that.
    ——————

    Chad,
If I wasn’t so scatterbrained lately, I’d reply to a lot more posts. I have to do it immediately or I forget. Someone suggested opening up a word document and typing comments in that while reading through. There are so many great posters that I wanted to reply to and didn’t.

This is a midlife career change for me. My bladder couldn’t handle surveillance any longer (men definitely do have the advantage there). And I’m getting too old to run around the city after people a lot younger than me. My husband didn’t appreciate the hours either, so the door is closed on that chapter. I have seen how substance abuse is destroying lives. It’s like that movie “invasion of the body snatchers”. It’s a tough population to deal with, but it’s very rewarding when you see how happy a child is to have their Mommy or Daddy back clean and sober. Or to see a young man (or woman) who has so much potential learn new coping skills and thrive, because the ones he or she learned as a child were destroying him. I have a lot to learn, but I have a great teacher/supervisor.

I am going to read that book you suggested. Thank you.

opinion counts. good catch. Very interesting that there was a “juggalo gathering” concert the night before.

Did you hear about the Carol Daniels murder in Oklahoma? Sick case. I think there was a similiar gathering before her murder too.

Blink, I’m not figure pointing….just trying to see a pattern. The Farmville, VA murder really freaked me out.

No, we agree it is a serious issue. In fact, I have seen some of those associations in the per view of this case .

Speaking of Take it Easy, I recently found a pic of myself on ebay—a photo taken at the No Nukes rally in DC in 1979 (we went to see Jackson Browne) when I was wearing my brother’s gas mask and radiation suit, and carrying a “Hell, No, We Won’t Glow” sign my sister made for me. Someone had snapped a photo and made a postcard from it. A different pic of me was also in a Time Magazine story, which they titled after my poster. I just bought that issue, too, lol.

  25. Eloise says:

Do you all remember back on someones FB page, maybe MB’s, the question that was asked of WT, “where did you go?” in regard to the concert and someone else chimed in as well? I think it is curious about the sudden ticket posting as well, I could see it right after, but lets face it that was 5 months ago. I wonder what his alibi for the ending of the concert was? I didn’t know about this site back in the begining, so maybe he offered something up, but I hope he was looked at thoroughly. Susan: I am not following you about the L/R shoulder thing, can you explain? TIA.

  29. Josie says:

Phyl, I love your song! Will it have a rap type beat to it? I was kind of rapping it when I read it. I’m not sure it’s explicit enough for our all girls metal band. It would make a good cheer for our cheerleading team, though. What do you think girls?

I loved reading the Pink Floyd lyrics above. I can’t remember who posted them, but thanks. I love the Eagles, too! Take It Easy…

There’s been a lot of great posts to catch up on. But, I think I’m finally caught up. Now, it’s time to go back and see if I missed anything.

Rock on shining Morgan. May justice come soon.

  31. cvillenative says:

juliemooly, that picture was posted on WT’s facebook before yesterday. I remember us talking about it here months ago, about the same time he came here and answered some of our questions. I don’t know if he took it down inbetween and just reposted it yesterday (I haven’t been watching facebook pages), but it was definitely there before. Still odd that it would be reposted yesterday, though.

  32. bluewillow says:

Quoting from The Spingola Files http://www.badgerwordsmith.com/spingolafiles/2010/03/19/broken-bones-broken-hearts/ “investigators working the Morgan Harrington investigation are likely on the lookout for potential witnesses offered rides by a probable white male suspect.”

One would hope they are doing this – have they reached out to the public with this question? Do the women in the community realize that the police are looking for this information?

Awhile ago, someone posted a link to the document, Serial Murder — Multi-Disciplinary Perspectives for Investigators. http://www.fbi.gov/publications/serial_murder.htm I would like to share a few quotes from that article:

“It becomes essential for law enforcement personnel involved in a serial murder investigation to design and implement an effective media plan. The plan should provide timely information on a regular basis, without compromising the investigative endeavors.”

“Inaccurate information distributed by the media regarding a serial murder investigation should be identified and addressed by law enforcement as soon as possible.”

“Law enforcement should be creative in considering non-traditional methods of disseminating information to the public. This is particularly important if the media is editing information disseminated by law enforcement. One suggestion is to create an investigation web page that is updated regularly and provides the public with unedited versions of press releases, regular updates on the status of the investigation, and other information designed to appropriately inform the public.”

“Law enforcement is strongly encouraged to continue its release of information to the public during an investigation, in order to alert the community to a public safety issue or to solicit assistance in the identification and/or capture of an offender.”

It seems like the more LE tries to keep every kernel of information close to the vest, the more public speculation has been fueled and the less confidence people have. And, is this putting young women at risk?

The other day I was talking to a friend of mine who works occasionally on crews that helps do load in’s/load out’s for events at JPJA. He said for load in, for a 8pm event, the crew is released around 2-3pm and then they don’t come back until after the even it over. He said he usually grabs something to eat and then either wanders around campus or goes hang out at the downtown outdoor mall area until time to come back.
I obviously have no idea who the four boys in black are, but it does make me wonder if they could’ve been part of this crew that was just hanging around waiting for the event to end before they had to go back to work. And for the record, my buddy said he didn’t work the Metallica concert. This came up because he had just worked the John Mayer concert last week. He also said that there were several guys on the crew from Cville and a group from Richmond that usually ride together in a van.

From Pomona71. I’ve had a terrible feeling about Gil Harrington’s
statement of March 19 in which she says about the BG “break her bones
before he murdered her. I cannot get the image of Morgan’s shattered
bones ….” From looking at the bones, Gil could tell Morgan’s bones
were broken before she died, not when nor after she died. Bones begin
to heal almost immediately and if Gil could feel the edges she would
know of the beginning of the healing process. So Morgan lived for a
while after the brutal beating. To all the people that have called
him and his possible accomplice, Monster, I say you are right. He
must be stopped. LE must be so careful so that he doesn’t slip through
    any cracks.
