UVA Lacrosse Teammate Arrested For Murder of UVA Woman

Charlottesville, VA– Following a 2:15 am 911 call regarding a possible alcohol overdose, Charlottesville Police have arrested a UVA lacrosse player, formerly of The Landon School Team where1 of the falsely accused Duke Lacrosse team played in High School and 4 others were on the Duke roster.

George Huguely

George Huguely, from Chevy Chase, MD, has been arrested and charged with the first degree murder of fellow Lacrosse Player and UVA senior Yeardley Reynolds Love.

A source speaking on the condition of anonymity, has confirmed to blinkoncrime.com that Huguely is a member of the UVA Fraternity Delta Kappa Epsilon.

Yeardley Love

Love, a 22 year old Senior at UVA, was found by EMT and Charlottesville Police upon responding to a 911 call at the apartment she shared with team and room mate Kaitlinn Duff. It is not yet known if the call was made from the apartment or another location.

Yeardley and Kaitlinn

The apartment they shared at 14th NW is one block from where the Pantera shirt, confirmed to be that of murder victim Morgan Harrington, was found in November 2009.

Police have not yet released a cause of death for Ms. Love, but say her body showed signs of physical trauma.

Huguely has been committed to the Albemarle County Jail without bond pending his arraignment.

Yes, Huguely’s attorney intimating it was a trajic accident. Rage and anger have been on my mind…my daughter has been engaged for six months after a bad divorce that was all her doing….we adored our son in law, but alas, it was not meant to be even with three gorgeous kids involved…..she got into this relationship with the new guy too quickly…..she only once mentioned anger….the night he threw all of the kids car seats out of his vehicle…..only met him a couple of times but the eyes told me something….churchgoing, saying all the right things, but then ranting on me because I still had my son in law listed as my child on facebook….I knew something was not right…then last Sunday she broke down….told me everything….and broke it off with the guy….he has gone ballistic over it…I am scared for her and kids….she is an er nurse….pulled a twelve hour last night and came here to sleep until she goes back tonight…it was closer than going to her home in another town and the kids are with their dad. I just went in to check on her…made me cry..she looked so peaceful and like the little girl I raised…not the person who she turned into during a state of mania….treated her husband horribly and the kids have seen and heard too much. Anyone of you out there who have been the victim of anger or rage…get out now. Do not risk being another statistic. An angry person big enough to overcome someone of lesser size is just like a gun….if the trigger goes off it is too late….one cannot go back and change it….again….get out now. If he loves you he will get help. Alcohol and drugs possibly steroid use exacerbate the rage…so if you are in a relationship like this….please get away and seek help.
Did I ever think my daughter with the perfect husband, three kids, new house, very active in church would ruin her marriage, make the kids pawns and get involved with a man like this??? Never….but it has come to pass. My favorite show DWTS came on last night, my husband was not home and my front door is all leaded glass…I was afraid to even sit in my own living room because this guy knows where I live….people with anger issues compounded by drug usage can be violent….even people who on the surface are normal, middle class people…..not gang related….seemingly ones who have it all…can be violent in certain situations…so one cannot say…this doesn’t happen to people like me….well anger problems have no social class to define them…..Did I ever think that any member of my family would be a victim….never. I always shudder when I read about a victim of shaken baby syndrome…same thing….rage, angry…attack an innocent victim…a baby that cries because it needs something….food, changed diaper, or it has a tummy ache….but the caretaker…cannot take it crying anymore so he lashes out by shaking the baby….then it is too late….he cannot go back and take away a few moments of violence that ended a life…so,, so sad. Do not let this happen to any of you….get out now. Sorry rambling..but this is all very very sad for both of these young people and their families.
Two potentially good members of society in the prime of their lives…now lost. Thank God my daughter got out of this….but it broke my heart for my two year old grandbaby to say, “……. hit mommy!”

Don’t know; IF it was an “accident” of some kind or he went further than he intended, he may have panicked and run. Doesn’t sound like he tried to leave town or anything.

Not defending him–just trying to keep an open mind. Very strange “accidents” do happen, especially when alcohol, drugs, steroids, abuse and/or lust set the stage.

One of my advisees (a senior) accidentally died of auto-erotic-asphyxiation. The police initially tried to keep that out of the press, but it was a little difficult to explain “accidentally killed himself.” The family eventually released the information in the interest of other students.

After a little research, I see that the rough sex defense is actually successful sometimes at getting lighter sentences for the defendant. Most legal scholars view it as a permutation of the “she was asking for it” defense. Have we really only come this far?

Lizzi, I appreciate your comments regarding the protection of women. If you are referring to the FBI Uniform Crime Report for your information regarding murder rates, then you are accepting information from a flawed reporting system. That report is so confusing that most LE agencies have a difficult time completing it. Therefore, I don’t trust it.
Yes, you are quite correct in that few women attack and kill other women and most of the time it is men.
Our current culture is so lax in making people responsible for their acts. This begins at an early age in the home. Parents do not make their children have real consequences for their bad acts. Without those consequences, young people come to believe that they will not be punished for anything that they do.
Teenagers and young twenty somethings in our current culture are not mature enough to take care of themselves.
Our society has in the past fifty years removed the barriers to young women taking on activities that formally they were not allowed to do. This is progress and the country is better off because of it. However, we have not taught our young men that women are not to be attacked when the men do not get their way. You and others are quite correct when you point that out.
When I was a teenager, boys who picked on girls or said ugly things about them were taken out side by guys who had better value systems and told that they would stop that behavior or they would suffer the consequences of having the living daylights beaten out of them. This was usually sufficient to stop most of that behavior. Sometimes it was necessary to follow through on the threat, but not often.
I have a special reason for protecting women for I am a twin and my twin is a woman. Any man that is mistreating a woman within my sight is going to be stopped if it is within my power.
Yes, even though I am in my mid seventies, I can still pick up and object that weighs over a hundred pounds and walk away with it. I am not the least bit afraid of confronting a bad actor amd I have done that many times.
Now I see that the lawyer for the punk killer is saying that it was an accident. That is an out right lie and the lawyer ought to have his mouth washed with soap. If it was an accident, why didn’t the punk go for help as soon as it happened? I think the real motive was she had moved on and he had his little feelings ruffeled and he was going to make her pay for doing that to him.
The fact that she was drunk and couldn’t defend herself possibly contributed to her death.

A search warrant obtained Tuesday details the condition in which police and Yeardley’s roommate found her body. The report says her roommate found her face down in her pillow in her bedroom. There was a pool of blood on the pillow, a large bruise on the right side of her face, and she also had bruises and scrapes on her chin.

Police spoke with Huguely who admitted that he was involved in an altercation with Yeardley and that during the course of that altercation, he shook her and her head repeatedly hit a wall.

Huguely’s attorney Francis Lawrence appeared in court with his client Tuesday morning in Charlottesville.

He had the clarity to steal her laptop and attempt to dispose of it, so how will that factor?

This is what this animal admitted to doing. Thank God he said it all after he was read his Maranda rights!

The affidavit notes that officers found the about-to-graduate young woman with chin scrapes, a large facial bruise, and an eye swollen shut— as she lay in a pool of blood on the pillow. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Later, when Charlottesville Police detective Lisa Reeves spoke to Huguely, he allegedly admitted that he was involved in “an altercation” with his former girlfriend Love, and he proceeded to drop the following bombshells:

    – that he “shook Love and her head repeatedly hit the wall.”
    – that he “kicked his right foot through the door that leads to Love’s bedroom.”
    – that he “communicated with Love by email” and then “took Love’s computer from the residence and disposed of it.”

According to the affidavit, all these admissions came after Huguely waived his Miranda rights, the standard warning that anything he says can and will be used against him in a court of law.

The search warrant in the murder case involving two University of Virginia students and lacrosse players describes a gruesome scene at the victim’s apartment.

Fourth-year student Yeardley Love was found by her roommates face down on her bed, with a bruised chin, in a pool of blood, according to an affidavit. One of her eyes was swollen shut.

The document indicates defendant George Huguely told police he swung Love by her neck and then slammed her head against the wall. Huguely’s lawyer told reporters Tuesday that the death was “not intended.”

Police have said Huguely and Love had a romantic relationship at one point, but investigators don’t know the status of that relationship when Love died. The warrant indicates Huguely kicked in the door to Love’s bedroom in the apartment on 14th Street NW in Charlottesville that she shared with two other roommates.

The document also indicates Huguely took her computer and then later told police about it and lead them to its location.

    —————————————-
Blink, do you think this will actually go to trial and if so, do you think it will go to trial here in Charlottesville?

What does the mother of this boy say? What does the father do? How do you look your son in the eye after hearing what he has done?

How can they defend their son from his behavior with this tremendous brutality and disregard for life!!!!

Considering the charge, in conjunction with Huguely’s alleged post-assault grab-and-dump of Love’s computer, I think we can assume that whatever email was exchanged between the two makes the case for malice aforethought – which is a required element to prove first-degree murder.

This dude obviously stormed into her apartment late Sunday night and violently kicked through her bedroom door with the conscious, malicious intention of doing Love great bodily harm – ‘roid rage or not.

    B, redly, et al -

Is it common for a defense attorney to release his client’s line of defense the day after he is charged? That was really shocking to me. (But not more so than the seemingly proposed defense – “accidental” usually does not fly when a person is facing prosecution for premeditated murder…)

Not when he delays the bond hearing to discuss a plea, and he knows it is as bad as it can get.

Either UVa Human Resources doesn’t run background checks, or he lied to the VA State Police about his job status. It could also be that he never disclosed his Kansas residency on his job app and the University only ran a check on him in the states he reported living in.

The Chevy Chase lacrosse star has had a previous run-in with the law. In an interview Tuesday, Lexington police Patrolwoman R.L. Moff said she responded to a 911 call in 2008 and found Huguely stumbling into traffic. He told her he was visiting some friends at a frat party. She asked if anyone could come pick him up so that he could avoid going to jail, according to Moff.

“He said: ‘I’ll kill you. I’ll kill all of y’all. I’m not going to jail,’ ” Moff recalled Huguely saying, in a diatribe laced with racial, sexual and otherwise vulgar terms.

Moff said Huguely then became combative and fought with her for “three or four minutes.” She said she Tasered him, then placed him in handcuffs. The Taser “incapacitated him long enough for me to get cuffs on him,” Moff said. “But that just pissed him off even more. He became a lot more aggressive.”

Moff said Huguely continued to use expletives as she walked him to her patrol car. In court that night, she said, he did not recall he had been Tasered.

Huguely pleaded guilty to resisting arrest and public swearing/intoxication. He received a 60-day suspended sentence, six months supervised probation, a fine, and was ordered to complete 50 hours of community service and substance abuse screening. According to a Rockbridge County court clerk, he completed all of the requirements.
