Kyron Horman Missing: Watch Press Conference Live

Posted by BOC Staff | Kristian Horman,Kyron Horman,Missing Child | Friday 18 June 2010 4:36 pm

Portland, OR– The last 24 hours of the case of missing 7 year old Portland child, Kyron Horman, has the community boiling over with speculation that Terri Horman, Kyron’s stepmother, is a suspect in his disappearance.

KyronQuestions

As reported exclusively on blinkoncrime.com, Kyron’s Uncle Kristian was incarcerated yesterday for child molestation charges.

This afternoon, Multnomah County Police released a flyer they have distributed to the parents and students of the Skyline School that seem to call into question whether Kyron and his stepmom Terri were even at the school on June 4, 2010.

Kristian is married to Stephenie. Stephenie Horman had a facebook page (that has since been deleted) that was linked to Kaine and Terri as well as Kristin Horman who is the mother of Kaine and Kristian. I don’t see a page for Kristian.

Blink, thank you for all the hard work you do for the little victims. The great job you do is priceless. I know it is impossible to “detach” yourself when you see the photos of so many precious children who have suffered at the hands of sick, deranged grown-ups.
This case, about little Kyron, is one that really baffles me. You are one of the few people who are really staying on top of it. For that, I am deeply grateful, as I’m sure precious Kyron would be. I wonder if the SM is in a “safe house” at this time. I can only imagine the anger that is directed at her, especially by the bio Mother and Father.
I just pray that LE gets all the answers it needs to bring justice to a very special ‘Green Tree Frog’ specialist named Kyron.

not on SM’s bandwagon, but one more thing. If my child didn’t get off the bus, I think I might call the school first to make sure she didn’t get left behind. (We don’t have buses). I don’t know if I would have the same type of panic in as a situation like Somer Thompson – walking home and not arriving. Maybe, just maybe, she was freaked out with the school when they told her he was absent and while they were on the phone with her another staff member immediately called police.

I am concerned and have been since the press conference by the Stepmom’s overy physical consoling of the mom. Perhaps they are better friends than most ex and current wives, but it bothered me.

On the other hand, that Red Eyed Frog Prject has “Mommy” written all over it. Since Kyron didn’t seem to spend too much time with Bio Mom, then this means Terri probably did most of it. Look at the detail and way it’s laid out. I can’t see someone who participated in ritualized sexual predator of children (As some has suggested perhaps Terri was involved with the uncle in his disappearance) taking the time to do a project like this. Most perps like that would never consider putting that much effort into the project.

I am a firm believer that the police have a motive by doing this to perhaps give the person (That they just put in jail???) more of a reason to talk to them. Too bad these kind of accusations have a way of never going away if that is thier true intention.

Finally, there are many other ways for her to have done this than to pretend to take him to school, pretend to take a picture, pretend to leave by herself etc. There’s be no way for her to know that there wasn’t JUST ONE person on the campus that saw something they remembered. It’s too risky on her part. And I can’t imagine that these projects were up for more than one day. It looks like they are on top of desks in a classroom. It had to be done that morning meaning that he was there.

    Nothing’s adding up.

Blink – Now that the stepmother is in the spotlight, where is she? Is she still in the family home? I can’t imagine being the rest of the family, sitting with her, knowing she’s being eyed as a potential suspect. So again, does anyone know where she is?

Re: the possibility of the questionnaire being used to make the perpetrator feel “safe” and like LE is on to Terri instead, it sounds good on the surface, but we’re talking about several hundred people being asked several questions about Terri and her truck, and maybe they’ll focus then mostly on that. It seems that there’d be other diversionary tactics that might use the energies of all those people more wisely, and still yield the same, or better, results. But seriously, what the hell do I know? Nada, first to admit it. Just thinking aloud.

CW, with all due respect, and based on links you’ve provided, you’ve got the wrong guy. (I have googled and found 5 profiles with my exact name, just for your reference). I am a fan of your comments and usually find myself in awe of your ability to gather data which eludes most of us. Indeed, people who sign up for social networks should engage their privacy options. On BOC, however, you’re preaching to the choir. We’re all channeling our gift of fear for the most part. We need to keep in mind some people utilize myspace and facebook for professional reasons, not just personal. Scott Hormon probably has his reasons (marketing career) for having a public profile. IMO, Scott Hormon is accessing these sites to network and promote himself. My husband has facebook. I deleted mine because I’m uncomfortable with the whole thing. To me, the net has become a place of lurkdom for predators and evil. I URGED my hubby to ‘stealth’ his privacy settings for these very reasons but he insists he has nothing to hide, so why should he? He’s his own person AND I admit, he owns common sense. He would not post anything questionable, private, offensive, rude or put him or his family in harms way. He uses great descretion. Heck, he hardly accesses his facebook for that matter. He’s like me, he’d rather socialize ‘offline’. I hope I’m getting my point across :S

I imagine Scott Hormon shares the same sentiment as my husband when it comes to ‘privacy settings’. He has nothing to hide. Further, how could he predict something of this nature? In his defense, we need to stop focusing on his profiles and turn our attention back to Kyron. I believe it’s been established you have the wrong person by other posters as well. May I suggest we move on and put our energy into finding Kyron?

    Blessings to all xo

A friend of Terri’s is talking about how tired and down her friend is, and how she doesn’t understand why she has to take another polygraph, etc. Honestly, I have no clue at this point what in the he** is going on.

Another thought my daughter had tonight, regarding the older step-brother. It’s never been said why he’s staying with Terri’s parents in Roseburg. Could it be, as I mentioned previously, he is a victim of Uncle K? Could it also be possible, big bro acted out on Kyron~SM now protecting her fist born? My daughter got chills as she was talking about this~seriously something to think about….

So first, are you saying the rumour that they ‘weren’t even there that day’ was just that, rumour? Or, they were there, just not at the described time, ie really early as suggested by lily.
I still find it hard to ignore the possible white pickup sighting and that is what SM has. And a neighbor too.
LE said they didnt want to do anything to risk the investigation, so I believe their statements and actions were very precise. Either they are continuing to provide the sense of assurance to SM that they are trying to lure someone out of hiding and they need her help, or and more likely they are after her. Still hard to say , BUT……

Fox just said SM scheduled to take another poly today!

Between the odd fb posts, questionable body photos and maybe a few other things that raise an eyebrow. I suppose one could think she may enjoy the spotlight in whatever manner it comes. It really made me look at this with the post about all the detail to the tree frog project. It looks great, but did Kyron do any of it? Struck me as she wouldn’t be seen dead putting out a second rate project and be considered ‘typical’.

Remember Elizabeth Olten. someone mentioned early on perhaps an older child, even unrelated. It’s hard to get off the SM, but who else?
If we’re going on the affair route, that leaves open a lover resentful of her husband and his child. (Doubtful, but just saying).

Hey everyone, first time poster long time lurker! I have been following every detail of this disapperance since june 4th and I must say it is all very odd, but I wanted to respond to hula girl about your comment…This may be me being overly optomistic but I believe Kyron is alive and the cops are saying that to play on the perps emotions, maybe they know who has him, but have no clue where, and this person will feel guilt remorse because of some kind of attachment to the family, so the LE thinks by playing the sympathy card about fathers day may strike a cord, and the person will “do the right thing” and return this little boy…I REALLY HOPE THAT THIS IS THE CASE.

SM scheduled to undergo 2nd lie detector test today according to this site:

    http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2010/06/friend_says_terry_moulton_horm.html

After taking one polygraph test, Finster said, Horman is taking another one Saturday and “she’s not very happy about it.” Finster has known Horman since they went to junior high in Roseburg and worked together in the Hillsboro School District, where Finster is a special ed teacher. She said Horman and her husband, Kaine, are exhausted as the investigation drags on.

Friday, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office held a press conference to release the flier with Horman’s face on it and to dispel online rumors that the second-grader had been found.

Capt. Jason Gates would not say whether Terri Moulton Horman is a suspect in the second-grader’s June 4 disappearance from Skyline School.

“Terri is the last known person to have seen Kyron before he disappeared,” Gates said. “We are releasing this information at this time in hope that it helps jog people’s memory of that day.”

Horman told Finster, “I just don’t know what’s going on. This is what I did that day.”

Finster said Horman had told Kyron’s teacher the day before that she was taking the boy to the doctor on Friday, June 11, and gave the teacher paperwork to fill out related to the appointment.

Finster said that when Kyron didn’t show up at the bus the afternoon of June 4, Horman talked to the teacher who said she thought that Horman had taken Kyron to the doctor that day. Horman told Finster that the child’s teacher was new, in her first year of teaching, and was hard of hearing in one ear. “She doesn’t know if she understood her,” Finster said.

Investigators say Horman told them she last saw Kyron at 8:45 a.m. June 4 as he walked to his classroom after the two had toured the school’s science fair. Previously, officials had said that Kyron had been seen around 9 a.m. by an unnamed witness, but Gates declined to clarify the discrepancy Friday.

Hi Mommystop. While I agree that SM and BM’s relationship may not be the norm, many of us actually do have civil and even friendly relationships with our ex-spouses and their new spouses. I do, and because we all co-parent my son, I am unspeakably grateful for the efforts we’ve made to do so. My son’s SM would be comforting me exactly as we’ve seen TH comfort biomom. Just saying that not everyone follows the “script” that mass media gives us.

Not directed toward anyone, but speaking of mass media, I want to mention that I have spent my entire career in broadcast media (on the sales side). This should go without saying, but news reports can be just as suspect as social networks in terms of the veracity of the information. I’m here to tell you that the end goal is increasing audience share to acquire more ad dollars – and that’s the bottom line. Yes, there are great journalists out there who properly vet their sources, and yes, most of them are in this field because they enjoy the job (they sure as hell don’t do it for the paycheck!) But by and large, just because the town newspaper or the 11:00 news anchor says “so-and-so saw someone at 9 am” does not make it so. Their job is to distinguish themselves from their competition – and good or bad, sometimes that means putting out info that may or may not be accurate, because it gives them a competitive advantage.

That’s about the least cynical I can make it!

  36. SS says:

Holy cow Blink. Don’t tell me after all this that they’re going to say the SM and Kyron were never even at the school June 4. I did all of my reasoning based on reports that they had both been definitely seen at the school that morning, by several people, and also that she was seen leaving alone.

Unfortunately, this scenario makes more sense than any I have been able to come up with, and certainly would explain how he got out of the school without anyone seeing (he was never in there). My only problem now is, when did SM take the picture? There are a couple of people in the background – looks like a girl and an adult. They could certainly shed light on when the picture was taken if they can be found (based on what the girl was wearing versus what she was wearing the day of the science fair). And speaking of clothing, I’m wondering if anyone noticed what Kyron was wearing June 3rd. Could it have been the CSI shirt and cargo pants they’ve been describing? Or could he have had a change of clothes in the backpack that SM had him change into after school to take the photo on the afternoon of June 3rd, so it would appear he was wearing something different? Also when were the backpack and jacket left in the classroom? I’m thinking the day BEFORE the science fair now. That would TOTALLY explain why the teacher reported him absent – she knew the stuff had been there from the day before, and she thought the SM was taking him to the Dr. Reports I read say the SM was definitely there on the 3rd, telling the teacher that Kyron had a Dr. appt. on June ELEVENTH (why would you tell the teacher this 8 days prior?) and another odd report that the teacher was hard of hearing and may not have heard her correctly and thought she meant June 4th (Please….COME ON! Even a completely deaf teacher would be able to read the paperwork/date of appt. she was signing). Add to all of this (from what I’ve read) that there was a substitute teacher there, who didn’t know SM and Kyron and wouldn’t notice what he was wearing, etc. Again, everything is based on what I read and just my opinions.

Another thing that strikes me as really weird is that SM was a teacher’s assistant and worked with the teacher very closely (from what I’ve read). That means a fair number of people – parents AND children – in the school probably knew her, so you would think several/many people would have seen her that morning, seen Kyron, said Hello, whatever, as was originally reported. So confusing.

Poor little boy. They’re so innocent and trusting at his age. If he were my child I would be in front of cameras over and over begging for his safe return, and out there knee-deep in the marshes or driving around every day looking for him and calling his name until I dropped, no matter what the cops said…

None of this makes sense anymore Blink…

  37. D.A. says:

Maybe LE was ‘satisified’ with Terri’s first lie detector test, and this second one is only to ask her more pointed questions, that were not asked in the first one? Just brainstorming.

  38. D.A. says:

If you go to google earth, or a map where you can view the school closely, it does look like that school has many doors to the outside. There are at least four or five, more than what I’ve read reported by media. One in front, one on left end, one on right end, at least one – perhaps two or more in the back.

School says no security cams there. But there is a weatherbug cam for the school area. I hope that LE has checked this and any other possible cams in the area that may not have immediately come to mind. Street cams, etc?

  39. Daisy says:

What I dont understand then, if Kyron and Terri were not there that morning, then how did the head of the PTA I believe her last name was zimmerman see them? wasn’t that june 4th?

They were there. I think the issue is whether Kyron left with her.
    B

  40. Jackie Bauer :) says:

Maybe I’m naive, but it seems to me this is a very thorough investigation, and I imagine LE has checked EVERYTHING possible. But back to what I know: nada :)

What struck me as odd about the article re: the liar detector is that Terri is frustrated and unhappy about it. I don’t know, I don’t have a child, but I think I’d be willing to answer any and all questions a million times over if I though it would help. It’s not the same, I know, but when my golden retriever had cancer and needed treatment everyday and I had to drive and rearrange my schedule and do nothing else, I didn’t care. I just wanted him WELL, and my focus was not on my own happiness or unhappiness, or frustration, it was on taking care of someone I love(d). I still lost him to cancer, and had the saddest heart, BUT I still knew I’d done everything humanly possible. I would think that anyone who loves Kyron would do the same thing. But I guess people are different, and some more different than others.

If I were not involved, and it appeared that LE did not believe me, or was barking up a wrong tree, I would be very frustrated. However, if I were, and I was not able to deter their thinking, same reaction. That is a wash for me.

    Respectfully snipped from Oregonlive

    http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2010/06/kyron_hormans_blended_family_f.html

This article has a lot of new information about Terri’s life and previous marriage.

On her Facebook page, she says her dream job would be superintendent of a school district.

She also loves playing video games such as “World of Warcraft” and is an exercise buff, regularly going to the gym. In 2005 she placed fourth in the over-35 category for women in the Emerald Cup of bodybuilding.

That same year, she was snagged on Interstate 5 in Marion County for drunken driving. James, who was 11, was in the car. With a blood-alcohol level of 0.15 percent, she was charged with DUII and reckless child endangerment. Terri pleaded guilty and took a diversion course.

She has had no other violations.

Family and friends say she is a focused mom.

“She’s a pretty attentive mom,” said Tarver, her first husband.

Her second spouse, Richard Ecker, has kind words to say about her as well: “She was always a gifted teacher. She did as much for the school and the kids as she could.”

He couldn’t imagine his ex-wife doing anything to harm a child.

“She would never hurt a child,” he said. “She’s not wired that way.”

    http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2010/06/kyron_hormans_blended_family_f.html

The above article from oregonlive indicates that it is Kaine, not Terri, who is adopted. Kurtis and Kari Mengel are the birth parents of both Kaine and Kristian, who were then adopted at some point by Neil Horman and his wife. I would guess that the boys were older when they were adopted because both boys kept the K names given them by their birth parents. On an earlier thread someone wrote that as a child Kaine was removed from his home because of some type of abuse. I guess it could have been the birth home, a foster home or the adoptive home.

RE: The school secretary calling 911. IIRC the secretary called 911 on the other line while Terri was still speaking to school personnel about Kyron not getting off the bus.

It’s interesting that Terri gave Kyron’s teacher papers to be completed before Kyron’s Dr. appointment on the 11th. I wonder if it was some type of counseling appointment or investigation for learning issues/behavior that would impact learning. One doesn’t normally need the teacher to fill out papers for a regular doctor’s app’t.

  45. lizzy says:

If it is confirmed that they were both at the Science Fair, and the photo is unretouched, then Kyron looks pretty happy.

But has the photo been examined by experts? I assume LE has the camera, card, etc?

Because as little as I know, there seem to be some odd “shadows” in that pic.

The statements that it might be a stranger, but the public should have little concern, remind me of similar LE statements from the Morgan Harrington case. That is, until she was found in an unexpected location.

  46. oblio says:

Thanks to J2K from a day or two ago with the only FACTUAL analysis I have seen that casts doubts on Terri’s veracity. I have been frustrated and disappointed to see the same comments again and again wherever I read: “She set off my hinky meter. In her FB pictures, she is not showing proper attention to Kyron. She was rolling her eyes at the press conference. She hugged Desiree but Desiree did not reciprocate. She “hit the gym” the day after Kyron went missing (with her husband, but I don’t see him being blamed for the same activity.) How dare they say they will miss Kyron on Father’s Day when it’s a couple days away.”

This nit-picking is understandable and its understandable to blame the stepmom because she is the ONLY SUSPECT we are aware of. We have no access to the same information police do, so everyone is focused on the Internet trail of the one person they do know about.

I just think the quickness to crucify this lady is sad. What if she is innocent. It would frustrate the HE** out of me to be in her situation where everyone was focused on me instead of focusing on finding the person who did it.

Hold on. I would appreciate you following my full coverage of this case.

And to your own point, I am not aware of any suspect in this case, because to my knowledge, there has not been one named.

I am on the record saying I personally do not feel comfortable that she is involved with Kyron’s disappearance. There may be something else going on (affair, as an ie) if it is fact that she lied about her whereabouts after she left the school.

I am on my 5th hour of analyzing the press conferences. Your not going to convince me the sheriff thought a member of this family was involved, at least then.

This would have had to be a premeditated act, to murder a 7 year old boy for no reason. I am not feeling that at all in this case. I would like to know why the 16 year old is living with the grandparents.

Maybe the announcement of polygraph and flyer (if anyone can provide an alibi to her wherabouts that day) are to announce to the public that she is not a suspect…. with all the speculation and finger pointing (at her) that’s been going on, perhaps LE decided it was time to clear her in the public eye… just another thought…

“If I were not involved, and it appeared that LE did not believe me, or was barking up a wrong tree, I would be very frustrated. However, if I were, and I was not able to deter their thinking, same reaction. That is a wash for me.

I’ve always been a pretty soft touch, till I’m not anymore (just ask the sociopath I caught :) I’d think after 6 months, I’d probably start to lose it, but I’m talking two week timeframe. I guess I’m “Ms. Plan/Ms. Fix It” but my thinking would be that maybe LE would ask me a question and I’d remember more, or answer more clearly, or they’d think of some new question that would prompt me to recall what I hadn’t. So I’d want to help because I’d feel like I was doing something.

Anyway, guess there is no “right” response on the SM and her frustration.

But I do have two questions for you:
    1. The grandparents haven’t really been mentioned except in the happy family story. But LE would’ve scoured everything about them already, right?

    2. Sadly, in one of your posts at some point, you said you believe that Kyron is dead, and was dead by that same day. Why? Just the stats of how soon children are killed after, or some other reason in this case? I know you know what you’re doing, and I know I know nada, so I’m looking for your insight.

I believe this was a sexually motivated crime, which would fall under the within 3 hours deceased, 24 hours if taken to a different location, which I do not believe.

And Blink, THANK YOU! I have been considering a career refocus and background research is something I enjoy and do well (just ask that sociopath ;) so finding this site has been a real treat.
