Caylee/Casey Anthony Case: Cheney Mason Predicted Casey’s Conviction AFTER Caylee Was Recovered
– J.Cheney Mason, counsel for Casey Anthony
Well now, there you have it. Words from J. Cheney Mason, co-counsel of the defense team via THE BAEZ LAW FIRM. Was he co-counsel when he said it? No. All the more reason to wonder why he would sign on to this case. Yet bet Ms. Simms is happy she did not have a TV when these aired.
Cheney’s prediction of Casey’s trial outcome comments were made the day after Caylee’s remains were located, and OCSO was still onscene, December 12, 2008.
Casey Anthony’s parents were still guests of the THE RITZ CARLTON thanks to ABC, and their Hopespring Drive home was being turned upside down by OCSO ater finding Caylee’s Winnie the Pooh blanket her grandmother conveniently forgot to mention was missing from her room.
“Hopespring” - now there is the boss of all oxymorons in this case.
Tuesday, in the news-less press conference, Mr. Mason forgot his former comments as an “analyst” for local 6 as invited by reporterTony Pipitone.
WFTV Reporter Kathi Belich asked Mason if he recalled being a commentator on the case and concluding that Casey would be convicted.
His Response In pertinent part:
“… I Don’t recall making any such statement..”
O No? We DO.
AFTER Caylee Anthony’s remains were recovered
…” All that talking and the press interviews.. the parents going on this show and that show, the lawyer (Baez) going on different shows established they have no credibility whatsoever..”

In light of your trip to the Body farm I thought you and others may find this article interesting Blink:
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/caylee-anthony/os-casey-anthony-air-science-20101008,0,5643999,full.story
Snipped-
“But life, death, science and the unsavory business of prosecuting child slayings are rarely as clear-cut as they are portrayed on television. Nothing about the advanced testing on Casey Anthony’s Pontiac Sunfire provides a conclusive answer about whether her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Marie’s lifeless body was in that vehicle.”
“Last month, Casey Anthony’s defense team recruited Dorothy Clay Sims, an Ocala attorney specializing in cross-examinations of medical-expert witnesses. She has vowed to attack any “junk science” brought into this case, especially science lacking established standards and error rates. A hearing on whether the evidence should be admitted is expected to come as the trial date nears.”
“I certainly don’t think what he’s doing is junk science,” Bruno said. “But it might not be ready for the courtroom yet.”
“Ultimately, that will be an issue for the lawyers to argue and for Chief Judge Belvin Perry to decide.”
—-
I agree that this testing does not prove that Caylee was decomposing in the trunk but it certainly goes a long way IMO to proving that some one sure was… When added to the evidence of the hair /with a death-band and Cindy’s 911 call ect- I believe that it certainly underscores the State’s stance that Caylee was in the trunk dead..
I am sure that Dorothy Clay Sims is going to to her utmost to get these tests thrown out as junk science and nothing more. Even if they are allowed in, which I hope they are, IMO many won’t be satisfied with the evidence, unless it includes photos or videos of Caylee’s body inside that trunk.
I am not sure what goes into having evidence thrown out, for being too new ect, So if you can Blink, will The State have to show more evidence or testing? Such as showing evidence of the death-banded hair, Cindy’s statements, or Casey’s texts about the squirrels, ect during this hearing, in order to back up these air tests? Or will they just argue the scientific merit of said tests? TIA
One of the major reasons that Cindy Anthony fought so hard to “retract, mitigate, ignore” her comment about the “smells like a damned dead body” is because of the natural evolution of air enviornment testing.
Cindy, George, Yuri and Simon all agreed on the stench. Why not test it then as it was clearly used as probable cause for further warrants.
There is no doubt that this is a forensic case. It will end up being the battle of the expert witnesses, and none of the “circus” background noise.
I sincerely hope someone is counseling Baez et al. He has received all the judicial courtesy he is going to get.
Once the trial starts, the antics we have seen will be dealt with swiftly, imo.
Mom 3.0, I feel compelled to disclose my study objects were of an over 55 male, in various conditions, different subjects, different controls. Like most thing in my life of significant impact- I H A T E D it, but learned a tremendous amount.
I did not feel I could participate in a child study, had their been one available. I saw that inability to separate the clinical from the emotional as a failure on my part, but as cool hand luke said, Blink has to know her limitations.
Sweet dreams to baby Caylee tonight. You are loved.
B
Thank you for your response Blink- and for sharing some more details regarding your experiences.
FWIW, I do not think you failed in any respect. To know one’s limitations is to recognize one’s strengths.
I read here often at BOC, I have seen some pretty horrible things- sometimes I go to bed and can’t get the images out of my head. You research these cases, you research the science, and all manner of other grisly details, not on just one case, or a few, but on each case you have ever come in contact with, you have hands on contact with the victims and their families.
Yet you continue on in the endeavor to give hope to the hopeless. No, I don’t see your humanizing “bodies” and your inability to view children’s as a failure, but as a strength, one I’m sure the families of the victim’s appreciate- They are not just a case number to you, they are real people.

Blink, as you can imagine, there have been many times in my vocation I had to separate myself from the emotional. I believe if you knew by doing what you perceive you “failed” to do, it would bring comfort and healing to a family, you would do it. You do it every day, dear friend. You tread where others can only read. Mom3.0 says it better than me.
The hardest time for me was just a few years ago when a couple asked me to baptize their son who was still-born. It was Christmas Eve when I went, alone, to the funeral home. This tiny little casket had two candles burning on each side. Within was the beautiful body of their precious son, there amongest his own blood as his little veins would not hold embalming. Into the casket I reached to hold a child that needed no baptism nor any words I had to offer. I held in my arms one of the most sacred beings God has allowed me to touch, I was holding the holy. So words I spoke and tears I shed as I failed miserably in being dignified and stoic for the moment. It was my worst moment and a blessed moment. For reasons I still do not understand, this helped these young parents to begin again, and two years later I was honored to baptism another of their children, who is alive and growing into yet another holy gift.
You are a blessing to so many . . . if we all “failed” as you have, we would not need to lock our doors at night or pray for hours for those who cannot speak for themselves.
Now, kiss you son and tell hime “Auntie O” loves him too!
Your seriously going to compare what I do to that?
As so many other times I am humbled by you, your work, and your grace, this hits my bullseye the hardest.
Thank you for the blessing of you.
“Holding the Holy”… I will remember that always.
B
Sister thank you for sharing that very personal & sacred moment with us. We and especially, Blink are very blessed to have you around.
See Blink, I told you no one can be deemed a failure if they have friends…
So true and thank you friend
B
I don’t know who ‘Sister’ is but I felt humbled reading her comments. I no longer worry that Caylee won’t get the Justice she deserves; she can’t fail to with the likes of Blink, Sister, Mom03 and so many others keeping the faith.
If I were to tell you more about her, it would invade her privacy which I would never do.
She is a true soul. How many of these are we blessed to know in our life, really?
B
I hear you. If you are reading this ‘Sister’ thank you for being there for Blink whom I consider another true soul. Although unlikely ever to meet, I feel blessed that I discovered this site when scouring the internet for news of ‘any fight for justice’ for all the lost children in this sad world.
There are times of “testing” in this work I have been largely unprepared for.
I think Sister is a large part of why we keep up the good fight.
B
Blink and fellow Blinkers,
We are all called to do certain things in our life. Sometimes I feel very burdened by what I know my call is on this earthly journey. Yet isn’t that true of all of us? But the more I understand myself, the more I know my purpose. The self-examination is not always pretty, however to me it is imperative. I don’t know the mind of God, I just know the mind He gave me. Blink and her staff and the posters here are a wonderful group of people who are not only trying to make sense out of events and people, more importantly, we want justice for those from whom justice has been stolen. Evil steals justice. God restores, including justice. When we do what we were created to do, there isn’t one more important than the other, we just belong to a great wonderful family, each having a part in making this world a better place.
I read every comment, I pray for those who are hurting, I rejoice with those who are blessed, and I believe in His time all things will be made right. Sometimes I pray He allows me to live long enough to witness the righting of the wrongs.
Blink dear, you are precious in the sight of the Lord and it is I who has been abundantly blessed to share a small sliver of your life.
Sister, You are a BEAUTIFUL SOUL. Your comment has made me realize there is still good in people, sometimes we just have to look for it.
Thank you.

Good as usual…
Shocker.
Looks like “kronker” is about to be a “kronkee”.
B
Heidi, I heart me a Mr. Scheaffer — if I ever get in trouble, I’m importing him or I’ll move to Florida temporarily so he can represent me. He is so logical — what a breath of fresh air. Course, I admire Kathi’s professional questions, etc.
Blin, a “kronkee” teehee!
Heidi thanks for posting that link-
Sister you are a riot. So is it his suspenders that really throw you? LOL I agree he seems very knowledgeable.

List Describes Coffin Flies From Remains, Body Bag”

I wonder if anything more was on the new list?
I hope that the jury gets to see this evidence-(the flies) they may not- as the defense has signed a chain of custody something or other?- stating that if they somehow damage this evidence in testing or other- the prosecution can still present it during trial-
I hope it is not damaged as seeing is believing-
Mom3.0 — hadn’t thought of it — it may be the suspenders. I like men in bow ties too :>)
I would think the defense has to sign a chain of custody on all evidence they receive?
Sister- bow ties really?…hmmm -yeah I can understand that. Personally I was more into the Paul Newman- Rock Hudson(I know) Clint Eastwood type.
But as ZZtop sang every girls crazy bout a sharp dressed man.
BTW yes- the defense has signed the chain of custody on this evidence- you are right
Is it possible to ‘doctor’ evidence even if a chain of evidence is signed? Just curious.
Chica, I see you’ve been getting out there!! LOL…..you are so awesome friendy.
I have a question for the elite sleuthers. I brought this comment from B over from the David Hartley thread….
QUOTE:
If she shows up there unrepresented I may end up believing her, lol.
It is a felony offense to lie to a Federal Agent
B
UNQUOTE
Why wasn’t the FBI brought in to question Casey? I cannot see her having the nards to ‘stick with this story’ knowing full well it is a blatant lie from hell.
Happy Monday friends.
The FBI has never questioned Casey. They did however, question Cindy and George.
The only exchange Casey has ever had was with Nick Savage/Scott Bolin in a vehicle, and again while she was waiting for Jose to arrive following her indictment.
B
I don’t get why they haven’t been brought in to question Casey. I recall them questioning Cindy and George.
Thanks Blink. Anyone privy to the exchange…and why they didn’t pursue further questioning?
Because she will refuse to speak to them as is her constitutional right. They can only ask her if she wanted to, and she invoked.
B
No doubt this is the most honest statements of the 2 (Cindy and George) with the agents. I would LOVE for them to go through another round….how much would their responses differ from then? THIS is a damaging interview against Casey imho.
http://www.wftv.com/video/18035355/index.html
Didn’t know George was a Deputy Sherriff. Of course he knew!
Because she will refuse to speak to them as is her constitutional right. They can only ask her if she wanted to, and she invoked.
B
I believe some laws need to be changed!
It seems the State is not just going to give the Defense a blank check on funding-

“Casey Anthony defense budget challenged by state agency”
Snipped- Some of the arguments-
•As for the $5,000 in investigative services, the JAC argues the defense “has the burden to show how the requested investigator is necessary to the defense of the case and how the failure to provide such service would prejudice the defense.”
•As for Finnell’s travel expenses and lodging, the response says, “JAC objects to reimbursement of travel expenses for any attorney in this case inasmuch as lead counsel is privately retained. Such travel expenses are overhead expenses that should be paid for through counsel’s fee.”
It goes on to say “the state should not bear the responsibility to cover travel expenses for a privately retained attorney who chooses to use the services of yet another attorney”
The response adds that although Finnell may not be charging Casey Anthony for her services “this is not a pro bono case; it is an indigent for costs case, where lead counsel has received a fee of $89,454.3.”
Absolutely. The JAC is doing a fantastic job managing this.
B
I was very happy to see that JAC is questioning everything and not going to allow the Defense to waist more money. I just have one question though BLINK if you can answer….Why would a PI be going to Ohio in regards to Casey considering she was a toddler when the family moved to Florida? (Or is this in Question to GA).
I agree with ya, Blink
I was very glad to see that JAC is questioning a great deal of the wanted expenses. For the life of me, I could not understand why Casey Anthony has the right to such over the top defenses- when there are so many innocent people and others who did not sell the rights to their victims pics- that are merely getting a public defender.
Snipped from article:
•As for the $5,000 in investigative services, the JAC argues the defense “has the burden to show how the requested investigator is necessary to the defense of the case and how the failure to provide such service would prejudice the defense.”
The JAC response also says the rates for investigators cannot exceed $40 per hour.
•As for the up to $7,500 for a psychiatrist or psychologist, the JAC response states “counsel needs to file a separate motion delineating the particularized need for the expert.” The JAC objects to any out-of-state psychiatrist or psychologist and wants to be heard before the court authorizes any experts.
It also objects to any rate for experts outside established rates. For instance, psychological evaluations have a flat per-exam maximum rate of $350.
•As for the additional 100 hours for the mitigation specialist, the JAC notes the court previously approved a “cap” of 384 hours for mitigation specialist Jeanene Barrett.
“It is unclear whether that cap has been reached at this time,” states the response from JAC Assistant General Counsel Bradley Bischoff.
The rate for such work is $40 per hour and the response states the court “must determine that the additional hours sought are reasonable and necessary for the defense of the case.”

How the defense is going to be able to prove that some of these, expenditures, if not granted, would risk her rights, is beyond me.
There are thousands of people out there that are paying one lawyer to defend them, who can not afford any of these extras- How does Baez think that Casey should be able to get the best defense money can buy, even though he/she is not paying a dime of costs?
I mean- don’t we all want a dream team to defend us, with thousands of resources at their disposal? Yet, money precludes the vast majority of average citizens from hiring one, regardless of guilt or innocence.
Everyone deserves the same rights as everyone else- but the only way I can see this all being “a right” is if every lawyer, mitigation specialist, doctor, expert, ect were available to every citizen, at one flat rate…JMO
I hope they fight it tooth and nail. I want to see that payment contract from abc badly. There’s money on that table, no doubt.

“Casey Anthony Battle Brews Over What’s Public Info
Anthony Lawyers Point To New Ruling In South Florida”
(pp)Due to a ruling stating that a child has a right to talk with their parents free from scrutiny- which was in that case- regarding minors tried as adults- Casey’s defense, says that Casey is entitled to the same courtesy because releasing her commissary accounts, visitation records, tapes and phone calls- is NOT part of the sunshine law- and is only done to embarrass and harass Casey..
Blink, do you think this ruling supports the defense, or is it like Judge Perry said in court, the prisoner as no right to privacy?
If it does change, I wonder if Casey will agree to meet with her parents?
No dice, for one, she is not a minor being tried as an adult, which from a juvenile perspective, does give some validity to a parent’s rights, imo.
There is a zero percent chance His Honor will, nor is he in any position to, change the dept of corrections “no expectation of privacy.”
I think the defense should start to consider that they may want to preserve some of these crying jags for their appellate phase.
B
Mom3… did you know, I too am more into the Paul Newman- Rock Hudson(I know) Clint Eastwood type… too Go Fish!
Hi Ragdoll
greetings my friend so good to see you!! yeah I have been trying to make my rounds lol. This case drives me loca!!!

blink you said:

And I say amen I want to see that tooo. I was cracking up regarding the JAC saying that the defense needs to pay her with the 89,000 and they went down to the cents lol.
bet baez was super duper pissed off!!! puerto rican style!!
Terry
I know huh!!! I am glad the JAC is making them account!!!

Heidi- don’t make me break out my list of one time ‘man crushes’ and God forbid if Blink were to get involved -we’d be here all day- mentioning people involved in this case alone LOL
Terry, I think part of the reason they went to ohio is to interview people who knew them then- for the part of the trial when casey Defense offers up why she was the way she was and how it may have all lead to Caylee’s death… I’m sorry, I can’t remember what that part is called… Anyone?
Chica- nice to see you and so energetic as always.
Darth I looked it up- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appellate_court
snipped:
An appellate court is any court of law that is empowered to hear an appeal of a trial court or other lower tribunal. In most jurisdictions, the court system is divided into at least three levels: the trial court, which initially hears cases and reviews evidence and testimony to determine the facts of the case; at least one intermediate appellate court; and a supreme court (or court of last resort) which primarily reviews the decisions of the intermediate courts. A supreme court is therefore itself a kind of appellate court. Appellate courts worldwide can operate by varying rules.
Thanks Chica,
I loved the article I am just glad that their are people out watching what these slimy Attorneys are doing?
Thanks Mom3.0U

me too a bunch of low life lying varments!!
mom
hello lol yeah I got one hand in the cookie jar and the other on the keyboard. suggah high!!
I too am glad to see JAC holding their feet to the flames. It appears to me the dufense is trying on different attorneys and/or experts until they can find one that “suits” them. It is my personal opinion that all the other attorneys fled because momster is guilty. Sure, they came up with other “suitable” reasons, but I believe they wanted out because the momster is going down. I don’t think we will see mason at trial time.
Now, as for me, suspenders or not, bow tie or not, Sean Connery is da man. Just saying :>)
TV Guy is reporting that the defense PI Lyons is trying to tamper with Equusearch volunteer statements stating that other searchers are changing their stories…..It was reported to the Sheriffs Office.
SLIMY PEOPLE THE DUNCE-FENSE
Terry says:
October 20, 2010 at 7:50 pm
Wasn’t it Mort Smith who went after Joe Jordan and Laura Buchanan. Have both defense investigators been tampering with witnesses?
Under the direction of the defense team, Mort SMith has interviewed many TES individuals, by simply requesting an interview, if you can believe that-
Buchanan, who just called in sick the day of her skype deposition with the state, contacted Jordan prior to Smith.
I guarantee you at the end of this, somebody will be outed for falsifying docs at a minimum.
B
Terry
I hear ya!!
They are slimy!!
Sister
I couldnt of said it better!!
great post!!
