Inspiring Vigilance: The Murder Of Morgan Harrington One Year Later

Charlottesville, VA– Sunday October 17 marks the one-year anniversary of the worst day of Dan and Gil Harrington’s lives. Although they were not yet aware of the horror that had befallen their Roanoke, VA family, the next morning their daughter’s purse was found on the grounds of the University of Virginia Lanigan Field. Morgan Dana Harrington had vanished.

MorganChosenByDadboc

While attending a Metallica concert with friends Sarah Snead, Amelia Melvin and Dan Cassagne with tickets purchased 6 months earlier by Morgan’s Dad, Morgan, for reasons unknown, was outside John Paul Jones arena at approximately 8:45PM.

Morgan attempted to re-enter the arena but could not locate her ticket and was denied access to return to the venue.  Shortly thereafter, Sarah called Morgan at 8:48PM looking for her and was told she could not get back in and would be attempting to locate a ride, according to Snead.

Various witness accounts and in some cases corroborating statements from Virginia State Police (VSP), place Morgan in different areas of the adjacent parking lots of JPJ over the following 45 minutes, moving toward the far perimeter of UVA property.

According to the VSP, there is a witness statement that a person matching Morgan’s description was seen hitchhiking alone on the Copeley bridge at approximately 9:30PM.

After several private law enforcement searches and two volunteer based efforts organized by the Harrington’s failed to locate her, Morgan Harrington’s remains were discovered by a prominent Charlottesville land owner on his remote 700 acre farm in Albemarle County,  8 miles South of JPJ arena, on January 26th, 2010.  Morgan’s death has been classified as a homicide, however her cause of death has not been released.

Until July, the case seemed to be at a virtual standstill from an investigative perspective, in fact the only arrest to date is that of a man who provided a false lead to VSP, and was prosecuted for it.

On July 1st, as a direct result of an article linking Morgan’s case to an unsolved sexual assault case in 2005 in Fairfax, VA published by blinkoncrime.com, a sketch of a man forensically linked to both the Fairfax case and that of Morgan Harrington was released by the Virginia State Police, albeit grudgingly, at first.

Behind the scenes, Dan and Gil Harrington, who were made aware of the connection a few weeks earlier, were adamant the sketch was critical to developing leads and warning others and demanded the sketch be posted on the VSP website; it was uploaded later that afternoon at Dr. Harrington’s request.

Virginia State Police have not commented publicly on the case in several months, but in a private correspondence with a concerned blinkoncrime.com reader, Lt. Joe Rader, leading the investigation for VSP,  said not only is the case not cold, but he has recently assigned additional manpower to it.

Dan and Gil Harrington, Morgan’s bereaved parents, along with Morgan’s beloved brother Alex, have spent the last year keeping Morgan’s case alive through the development of their own family blog, TV and radio appearances, and most recently, a meeting regarding safety concerns with new University of Virginia President Teresa Sullivan.  This Sunday, a memorial plaque to promote safety and honor Morgan Harrington is being presented to the Harrington’s on the Copely bridge.

Note From the Editor

“How would you describe the Harrington’s?”  I am asked this question frequently.

I always respond the same way.  “I would not”.

The grace and poise these parents have shown in the face of the worst conceivable tragedy to befall a parent is not something I could wordsmith or articulate.

If the question comes from someone I feel may help their cause, I offer to make the introduction, but I would never presume to speak for them.

The Harrington’s have created a legacy in memory of Morgan that only parents of a 20-year-old blossoming artist, music loving, budding educator could.

I think the sketch, in order to be useful, must be connected to a very similar looking man who was in the vicinity of JPJA/Copeley Bridge or AF when Morgan disappeared. If the Fairfax victim could be called in to look at photos of potential suspects or something like that, the case might move along. She could be the key.

  2. MsL says:

Not saying the drawing doesn’t look like Sketch, could be almost an exact depiction, but at least in Charlottesville and our surrounding area, this man, IMO, would attract no attention. We have a fairly large African American population. The problem, the sketch is just too ordinary. If I could draw, and someone asked me to draw what I view as the typical 30 year old African American male from Charlottesville, he would look very much like Sketch. Look at the drawing. What can you pick out that really can be described as a distinguishing feature? There are no scars, no birthmarks. The wanted poster states he could have scratches. Unless they were very deep scratches, they would have healed within a very short time with no lasting scars. The hair as drawn is not overly long, overly short. There’s nothing unusual about his facial hair. Even his reported size is very ordinary. There was nothing remarkable about the clothes he was said to be wearing the night of the Fairfax attack. This man probably knows how to fit into his surroundings without arousing suspicion. It’s possible he fits in with no effort at all. Just like our infamous serial rapist who escaped arrest for over 5 years, he could be living a very ordinary life, working everyday, even holding more than one job, going home to a family who suspect nothing. He could be someone who lives alone but causes no concerns to his neighbor. When he’s finally arrested, it’s very possible people will say, “he was very quiet, kept to himself, never caused any trouble, just can believe it.” How many times do we hear these comments?

  3. MsL says:

sorry, next to last sentence should read ….just can’t believe it…

  4. Oscar says:

@MsL – Regarding your comment that Charlottesville has “a fairly large african-american population”. Charlottesville has an incredibly small african-american population (a little over 20%). I have african-american friends that hated living there because of the lack of cultural opportunity (dating, places to go). Charlottesville is about as “white” as any “southern” city I’ve ever been.

This guy should stick out to LE, especially when you factor in AF.

  5. Cat says:

Sketch will definitely not be caught simply by looks alone at this point IMO. We are at a point now where science will need to prevail, or sheer luck that a new lead/tip will surface that may break the case. The latter is unlikely, considering the length of time since the crime.

I am still confident that there are connections between Fairfax and JPJ the nights of the crimes to be found, probably some that will be so apparent if this case is ever solved, we will all be saying, what an obvious connection, why wasn’t it looked into sooner…

Blink/Everyone – Hope your Summers have been well.

  6. Olivia says:

    MsL,

I agree that the sketch as drawn is somewhat generic looking. My point in the above post was that there are African-American men who were IN the vicinity that night of JPJA/Copeley Bridge–these include students, athletes, and I think drivers and/or LE officials. They are KNOWN to have been there. SO, have they been questioned or even CONSIDERED (in the case of LE and associates), and has the Fairfax victim seen them or their photos…?

And the fact is, the description of his clothing is so vague it provides no clues. (See below.) More to the point, were the dark zipped sweater and light pants (A) “preppy” and clean, OR (B) more like something an athlete or jock would wear (sweat suit), or (C) grungy or old looking? Three different “types,” right? Which one was he? And what was his accent like? Very important clue. The police and the Fairfax victim know the answers, I’m guessing. We do know he made the victim nervous prior to his attack. Why? Any reasons other than that he was standing alone along her path?

    From that link:
Police say a female was walking along Rock Garden Drive in Fairfax City from the Giant when she was attacked from behind. Authorities say she was dragged to a park and sexually assaulted next to a pool. Sgt. Pam Nevlud with the Fairfax City Police department said, “We’ve gotten quite a bit of calls. That is very inspiring and we are hoping this leads to something.” In the 2005 attack, he was wearing a black pullover sweater with a zipper and light-colored pants.

  7. Olivia says:

By the way, here’s the area including the pool on satellite/map image:

    http://www.trulia.com/property/map/3049134768-11127-Rock-Garden-Dr-Fairfax-VA-22030

  8. Olivia says:

    Oh, these maps are better:

You can practically take a walk to Giant (Jermantown Road) and the Rock Garden Drive apartments (where victim lived) with this:
    http://www.homes.com/Home-Prices/ID-400028450621/11109-ROCK-GARDEN-DR/

    http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl

Two more review snippets about AF from: http://www.michellesigona.com/2010/11/cold-case-feature-morgan-harrington-murder-investigation/:

I spoke with Nancy Bass, owner of the Anchorage farm for more than 30 years, and she says the area where Morgan’s body was found is not accessible by vehicle. Nancy and her husband David have an SUV, and there’s no way they could get down there. If it wasn’t for David on the tractor yesterday checking fences, Morgan may have never been found.

I asked Nancy about the hunters on her property, and she says when they first moved on the farm they did not allow hunting, but because of the trespassing, they decided to allow hunters assigned to different areas hoping that would keep an eye on things. Nancy says the main gate on the property is always open, it is never locked, but the pasture where Morgan was found is closer to a subdivision, only about 30 feet away. However Morgan got to that location may have been through the housing development, which isn’t too far of a walk.

  9. Olivia says:

So everyone may or may not remember this, but I’ve been looking at the maps and I see the following:

The Fairfax victim left her apartment located on Rock Garden Drive, walked a few steps to Jermantown Road, walked less than .5 miles to Giant, and then walked back.

The Giant grocery store is on the corner of Jermantown Road and Main Street/50.

Main/50 intersects shortly (1 mile) with I66, which runs straight into…29S. JPJA is on 29/Emmet in Charlottesville. (See Google Driving Directions below.)

SO LET’S THINK ABOUT THIS: If the rapist is FROM Northern Virginia, wouldn’t he drive her North along 29 and leave her somewhere along the way; there are MANY deserted and wooded areas along 29 North at night, many “opportunities.” Instead, he drove her South along 29 to a deserted farm. He chose to go South because….he knew that area better, perhaps, than the 29 North area? He knew of a place where he could hide her body? He took her there and he was unseen OR not suspected of anything unusual because he lives there or “belongs” there. He is currently an Albemarle/Charlottesville resident, I’ll bet.

I29 is pretty built up going north so, if he was familiar with it, he would probably know there wasn’t a good dump site for quite a while that way IMO. There is pretty much nothing if you go south. Still, she was taken and killed in c’ville/albemarle so there is at least a good chance the killer lives or lived around there.

C’ville/Albemarle has about 16,000 african american citizens. If you are talking about the population within 60 miles, it would hit richmond and the number would be in the 100,000s. If you extended it to a 2 hour drive you would cature the DC area and the number would probably exceed 1,000,000.

  11. Olivia says:

I disagree, respectfully, about 29N, Redly. There are many, many lonely wooded stretches between Charlottesville and Warrenton. Easy dump sites (sorry). But he planned to take her (or someone) to AF because he had thought about it in advance and it was a comfort zone.

As for the sketch: I think we’re talking about looking at the sketch and comparing it to the faces and builds of black men KNOWN to have been in the vicinity of JPJA/AF that night. Not too many of them.

    JMO, of course.

  12. deetee says:

hi redly and olivia, these are excellent points. i’ll add on to your layers of familiar/comfort. sketch must have been familiar/comfortable in both the abduction area and the dump zone. i believe LE’s take on AF was “in a time of stress…” sketch sought comfort. no?

so i’ll pose this: if acpd felt comfortable enough in the AF vicinity to bump uglies nearby, and sketch was familiar enough to commit his crimes there as well, what does that suggest?

to me it says they quite likely ran in the same pack and that both parties understood the “location” in the same way. a place to hide their shame.

i despise political agendas, but someone local needs to ask some serious questions in albemarle county. what is the unmovable object in this case? power? it can be removed.

hi crimewriter, i’ll bring this up again.

very shortly after the fire at sutherland, two north garden volunteer firefighters had some interesting posts on facebook. one took a seemingly immediate, non-stop road trip to nj and came right back. we discussed it quite extensively at the time, initials are ALT.

a second ng volunteer firefighter, CW, posted something right after too, but there was not much discussion about it at the time that i recall anyway. he posted that he called in a tip regarding MH’s case and was excited that he got called back by the investigators.

what could his tip have been? whatever it was, it seems more than likely it was prompted either by the fire at sutherland, the discovery of Morgan’s remains or possibly both. i’d wager both, as he had several months to report the tip after she disappeared. something clicked for this fine young man that day.

i have to wonder aloud, has LE shown this tipster the sketch? we’ve never heard one iota from LE what the tip might of been and i am fine with that especially if it is pivotal to the case. i would like to know that LE worked the tip though.

bottom line, i seriously doubt this is an unsolvable case. there is an obstacle. what is it and how can it be bested?

  17. first-time says:

Good discussions guys. Blink, do you know if the Harringtons have considered a PI? What other ways can pressure be applied to VSP/other agencies release more info. I hope we learn more before there is another victim.

The secrecy about the Colby Eppard dash-cams and the North garden fire is quite curious. Could someone explain how LE can deny the release of the dashcams, if the investigation is complete? Does the secrecy indicate that perhaps there IS a tie to Morgan? Does that offer some hope that LE knows more than we think?

i think the “inappropriate activity” has been widely reported on in the media. as for the “there, anchorage farm” aspect, i’m not sure what would be an anonymous poster’s motivation for stating that. now i may be naive, but it seems the more serious aspect of the story is the sex.

its also not just a single post that gave me the impression that acpd used the area. i recall numerous posts by different posters suggesting the area was known to locals as being frequented by acpd cruisers.

  19. J.me says:

deetee….Surely the NG firefighter has seen pictures of Sketch. We have posted them all over North Garden. You would have to be blind to live there and not have seen Sketch’s wanted poster. This aspect of the case has always had me intrigued…the tip after the fire, the NJ trip etc.

  20. MsL says:

Olivia, I well understand where you are coming from. I think when Sketch is found, Morgan’s murder will be solved. Even though it’s my personal opinion that Sketch probably acted alone as he did in 2005, I’m not saying there couldn’t be someone else involved. Yes, it would be helpful if every African American male in the vicinity of the arena on the night of October 17th could be identified, photographed and/or put in a line up for the Fairfax victim, That’s not going to happen. Do we even know that the victim is still in the United States? While I do not put a great deal of faith in the sketch being accurate, I think what it does do is eliminate black members of the basketball team from being Sketch. It’s my personal opinion that they aren’t even suspects because of LE’s statement that their alibis had been checked, they had another event to attend. I’m guessing that these young men were the first and easiest to eliminate, at least from the possibility of being Sketch once a connection with the Fairfax case was determined. I cannot look at the drawing and in any way imagine that he was a 14 to 17 year old in 2005. That’s not to say that Sketch couldn’t be a family member, we have no way of knowing. I’m no expert, but I just cannot see that LE has any legal or moral justification to force or even request that every African American male fitting Sketch’s description who happened to be in the vicinity on October 17th subject themselves to being photographed or presented in person to the Fairfax victim. If someone can be identified with a criminal record or other suspicious action or behavior on the 17th and is known to have been in the vicinity, that’s another matter.

  21. deetee says:

J.me, i’m sure he has seen them too. sadly, what I was wondering was IF LE investigating the case had shown the sketch to this tipster.

i’m glad to hear they have been posted all over NG. i’d like to thank you for the effort you have made.

  22. In Memory of Gini says:

I saw this article today and found the location very intersting. If you go to the Map – tab 3 (Story 1, Comments 2, Map 3, Video 4), you can see how close this student housing attack to where Morgan was last seen.

Their have been other incidents that happened there going back as far as 2 years and all were drug related. And the police don’t LIE?? How is it that the community knows more than what you post. The News Station should have a investigator to keep up with our Drug Dealer, Pushers in this lovely community.

  23. George says:

Well, Morgan had to be assaulted somewhere, and on a wet rainy fall night it was most probably not outdoors. The assailant seems to have a knowledge of the streets around UVa and the ins and outs of Blandemar Farms and the Bass properties. He stayed around at least long enough to plant Morgan’s t-shirt near the UVa campus a day or so before searches were to begin on Route 29 south of Charlottesville.

Then you have some of Albemarle County Sheriff’s Department finest doing the deed in the back of cruisers in areas reported to be quite near where Morgan was found.

So, if the area frequented by the county’s finest was nowhere near Blandemar Farms/Anchorage Farms why doesn’t the County or the VSP just say so? Simple, no?

If the place of the assignations WAS close by Morgan’s location then that area needs to be gone over extremely thoroughly, even now. And whoever used the area needs to be questioned extremely closely.

We are not talking rocket science here.

  24. maryfromthemorganthread says:

Yes, the black members of the UVa basketball team have been essentially eliminated as suspects in the Morgan Harrington case. Those who have not been eliminated to our knowledge are any of the team’s family members, friends, coaches, trainers, or equipment managers. Also not eliminated (to our knowledge) are any of the players’ social contacts to include possible ‘suppliers’ or members of the UVa staff to include groundskeepers other than the two curtsy witnesses. Also not eliminated are any members of the football, baseball or lacrosse teams (other than George Huguely) and their family members, friends, coaches, trainers or equipment managers as well as their social contacts and suppliers. To our knowledge also not eliminated are any parking lot attendants or security and/or safety personnel active in the vicinity of the JPJA on 10/17/09.

I don’t know anything about the North Garden area other than what I’ve learned on this forum but I have to defer to the investigators who insist that whoever placed Morgan in that spot was intimately familiar with it. Anchorage Farm has been the site of some fraternity activity in the past and some areas near Anchorage Farm have apparently been where some members of LE ‘hook up’.

Within those two areas of interest, UVa athletics and Albemarle County law enforcement, lies the answer to who killed Morgan Harrington. What’s the overlap? Who is involved in some way with both UVa athletics AND Charlottesville/Albemarle law enforcement/security?

  25. mary says:

  27. deetee says:

there haven’t been many posts on here lately, but for me there have been some stimulating ones. so i checked on a few individuals that had captured my attention…

for starters, i can now connect RH with RS, of gcso, eppard fame, etc.

    http://on.fb.me/n5Hqux

it seems AS was motivated enough by RH’s services to post a glowing review. AS and RS are friends, btw if not family. the s = s.

another interesting footnote i recently discovered: dino capuzzo (sp?) of vsp also played a role in the eppard investagation.

  28. mary says:

Wow it’s back! I was trying to be funny about it being ‘real good’ LOL. I’ve officially gone off the deep end since the CA verdict.

  29. susanm says:

wow we got a clothing description of sketch in 2005 ,the light colored pants seems the oddest descriptor . a while back when coloring with the sketch, i made the comment that it seemed that ff victim knew him ,even if he had just spoken to her at giant, now i think i know why i thought that, since it turns out to be kinda true ,he did speak to her.i could see he had a sparkle for her in his eyes, the victim & composite artist drew the sketch from the perspective of when he spoke to her,so he has to the confidence to engage in conversation and be at least somewhat charming, and misleading ,told her he was waiting for a friend, and then followed & attacked her.whats with the light colored pants ,grey, would be non descript ,but imo any other “light” color would likely be indictative of ??? something.

  30. MsL says:

To me, khakis would seem an obvious answer to light colored pants. Not at all unusual imo and hard to assign to a suspect group. Could mean anything from someone employed in retail, theater, sports or entertainment venue attendant, an office worker (business casual,) student, casual Saturday wear for a weekday suit wearing executive, or an unemployed individual (bought at Goodwill or from Salvation Army.) Could be someone who does not normally wear such clothes. He wanted nothing that could be connected to his normal attire, or he simply wanted to fit in as a shopper while waiting for a victim. Then again, he could dress in the same type of clothes everyday, knew he would not attract attention and would not appear threatening as he waited for just the right victim.

  31. susanm says:

msl, on second thought its probably faded blue jeans ,also non descipt.khaki, was what i was hoping cuz imo that would be something to go on .like you say , worker ,student, i dont know fairfax fashion but i dont think kahki and thug/hoodlum go together unless as you say he dressed to throw off. white/light sweatpants would definately point to athelethic interests.

  32. Olivia says:

susanm and MsL: I agree, khakis most likely, with a sweater–BUT shabby or chic? Old or new? Then again it could have been light gray warm-up type pants with a warm-up jacket–kind of a jock look. Would the victim know or recall?

Deetee:I don’t recall the AS and Eppard connection. Sorry. But I did find the Fb link you posted interesting. RH is such a people pleaser!

Mary: thanks for your comments about the many men who have not been eliminated. It’s useful to consider all the possibilities, and how they might look like Sketch. Somebody mentioned the Sketch NOT looking 17–so true. He looks like a man, big, hardened, late 20s or 30s.

  33. Olivia says:

Oh, one more thing about the pants: consider how easily he could have pulled them down. Elastic is easier than buttons and zippers for sure. Surely the victim would have some memory of that detail? As in, did he pause to unzip himself while simultaneously holding onto her or holding her down with his other arm/hand?

  34. Amy says:

George you make an interesting point however gruesome it may be: the ‘assault’ or motive was sexual. A car or a building is 99% sure involved, yet we hear nothing about a vehicle or a specific building of interest not on any pictures or of a search warrant.

susan: did sketch speak to his victim? If so he quickly noticed she could not communicate back (Urdu if I recall) so would that be another motivator? In Morgan s case she could maybe not communicate optimal either? Maybe thats part of his MO.

Khaki pants not sure if that means anything at all, as Redly would say: 103.988 men wear khaki pants of whom 50.900 are african american, it means nothing!

On the other hand I would think this excludes someone in a ‘dirty’ jobs like a mechanic because of the obvious dirt altho etc..

Wish there was some new solid information.

  35. deetee says:

    @Olivia

i wouldn’t exactly say there is an AS – Eppard connection. its more along the lines of a “coincidence.” there is an RS connection however, he was way outside his jurisdiction and if iirc he is one of several that pulled the trigger.

what i found interesting is that AS and RS share the same last name. and they are friends on fb. i’d say better than average chance they are related or related by marriage.

i don’t know about you, but writing a rave review on a car wash, or even car detailing is not high on my list of things i need to do. in fact, the only time i’ve ever written a recommendation about anything on fb is when i’ve either been asked to do it by a friend, or a business owner friend of mine has really made a difference in my life.

at some point, when you start putting coincidence on top of coincidence on top of coincidence, i have to wonder whether it is in fact a coincidence after all.

  36. Olivia says:

    Gotcha deetee.

  37. mary says:

Blink do you think the friends would talk now that it’s been almost 2 years and they’ve graduated and everything? Do you think we’ll ever hear what happened between Morgan’s 2:00 phone call with her dad and their arrival in Charlottesville? This is an area we have not really been able to delve into for some reason. Surely after all this time one of her friends could speak out.

  38. alexandra says:

Hoping for justice. I’m worried about our country sometimes. So depressing when neighbors can threaten to burn your house down, scream at you “how do you think you’re going to get fire trucks up there?” and you wonder why he would mention fire trucks, then 3 weeks later your house burns to the ground, while you’re rebuilding it a year later, he lays down in the driveway to prevent the concrete trucks from entering, and the States Attorney looked at me and said, “it doesn’t mean he did it.” There have been many more incidents than these, but…LE told me to “get over it” and I will. I had Casey to see brought to justice and Morgan’s killer. But justice is not coming. I’ll be alright but I can only imagine how Gil Harrington feels. I won’t forget Morgan and I AM waiting for justice on all fronts. An optimist.

Hi all – been awhile since I’ve posted but I’m glad to see people are still fighting for justice for Morgan. As I was reading the comments, something stood out to me about sketch. And if this has been covered before, I apologize in advance. But the 2005 attempted abduction in Fairfax was in late September. Morgan’s murder was in mid October. Morgan’s body was placed on a farm. Could this guy be a migrant farm worker? Would the late fall months be a harvest time that might require extra farm hands and thus the reason sketch has been attacking in the 29 corridor around the same time of year?

I found this link for the Virginia Justice Center that has offices in Charlottesville and Northern Virginia. The purpose of VJC is to fight for migrant workers, immigrant workers and day laborers collect unpaid wages.

    http://www.student.virginia.edu/~madison/students/programs/migrantaid/tips14.html

I’m sure it’s a stretch but I’m curious what others think.

    Hi HokieHi.

i don’t think there is much farming going on in the immediate Fairfax area. day labor, possibly, but not much farming in my limited experience.

  41. Dr. Pepper says:

Olivia- Cville police are likely tiptoeing when it comes to asking males of a specific ethnicity to voluntarily give DNA sample based upon composite sketch.
They did a few years back and te actual perpetrator turned out to look NOTHIng like the sketch. They got a ton of heat.

    DeeTee & Olivia & Blink:

I went back and read hook article on Eppard case. Even read the 8 pg decision by Lunsford to not file charges etc

    My thoughts:
I do not recall ever hearing of a cop shooting being seal like this before. Am I wrong?

While car in motion, hangs out of window shooting with left hand (he is right handed) across the windshield at cops
***I don’t believe that for one second

No one talked to him on the radio

He got out of the car in a combat stance…yeah while everyone was shooting at you?

They tell us this outlandish story & seal the evidence. Hmm

Det Capuzzo, from what I can tell- did the initial investigation and sent his report to Lunsford who decided to not file charges.

At that pt it was out of his hands & he didn’t have the authority to speak about the case.

Basically, the only thing I take from this incident is that there are some hush hush things going down in that area & they have a DA who has their backs.

Anyone from that area know if Lunsford has an opponent this year?

If youre gonna claim such a wild, unusual event took place- you’ve gotta provide something besides your word that you arent flat out lying. It just makes you look like a liar & people wonder what other kind of crap you’re hiding.

  42. Dr. Pepper says:

It like ace Ventura with a gun

  43. Ode says:

Best wishes to the Harrington’s on tonight’s show. I am so glad that they have kept Morgan’s story in the public’s eye. I still think of Morgan every day. I still want answers for Morgan and her family.
    Peace
    Ode

  44. first-time says:

Would only Eppard’s next of kin (parents?) be able to press to view the dashcams? What are Lunsford’s reasons for not releasing the tapes?

  45. deetee says:

it was a sad moment for me to realize Det. Capuzzo had investigated the Eppard shooting.

it reminded me of his quote the day of the walk through on the January anniversary of Morgan’s remains being discovered: “this case will solve.”

it struck me odd at the time, but now i have to wonder we he didn’t say “we will solve this case.”

  46. Dr. Pepper says:

    Deetee-

Capuzzo investigated it and gave his findings to Lunsford, who IMO is where the buck stops. She chose not to file charges and to not release any of the evidence.

The last thing I ever want to do is to drag anyone’s name through the mud. Especially his.

—why is any of this relevant to Morgans case?

    Here’s why: (AJMO)

•Security personnel or ticket takers: were responsible for Morgan not being able to re-enter the arena.
Note: LE has described them as ticket takers…but denying re-entry seems to be a task that’d be held by security

    •they were patrolling the area

•they would have been someone Morgan thought she could trust to take a ride from

•they’d have access to serveillance video etc

•The event security staff that evening was provided by (name leaves me at moment)
A company who contracts workers for events
A company whom I believe uses off duty LE who moonlight

    *all hearsay*

unidentified moonlighting LE could Potentially have been moonlighting that evening at JPJ.
—we don’t know— but very possible.

    Tired will finish tomorrow

  47. mahotchki says:

Good points Dr. Pepper. I remember it being written here that LE was attending the following night’s Metallica concert out of state. They had some reason to do that. I have always believed that someone from security or band crew was involved.

Help Stop Sexual Violence on Campus! Take Action!

This week, the AAUW Action Fund Capitol Hill Lobby Corps are visiting members of Congress to build support for a critical piece of legislation that would fight sexual violence on our nation’s campuses. They hope to reinforce the message you can send today: Help stop sexual violence and assault by cosponsoring the Campus SaVE Act!

A 2007 campus sexual-assault study by the U.S. Department of Justice found that around 28 percent of women are targets of attempted or completed sexual assault while they are college students. The Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN) reports that college-age women are four times more likely than any other age group to face sexual assault. There is an epidemic of sexual violence on campuses, and we must take steps to stop it.

The Campus Sexual Violence Elimination (SaVE) Act (H.R. 2016) would help to end sexual assault and violence on campus by requiring schools to spell out their policies, conduct prevention activities, and ensure necessary assistance for victims. It would constitute a step toward ending the sort of violence which prevents women from attaining their educational dreams.

Ask your representative to cosponsor and support this important piece of legislation!
