Susan Powell Missing: Perv In Law Steven Powell Arrested For Child Porn and Voyeurism Powell Kids In Protective Custody

(Update 10:00AM EST Susan Powell’s children are in protective custody with Pierce County Child Services)

Pullyallup, WA- You knew it was coming.   Steven Powell,  unaffectionately dubbed Freak-in-law by www.blinkoncrime.com,  was arrested yesterday after child porn and non-consensual hidden video and media files were found during the most recent search of his home by search warrant,  related to the West Valley investigation into the disappearance of Susan Powell.

Powell is facing charges for possession of thousands of  sexually explicit images and videotape of both minors and adult women apparently many appear to have been taken without their knowledge in the Powell home.

Pierce County prosecutors say among those images, are some of Susan Powell.   Steve Powell, 61 was taken into custody late Thursday on 14 counts of voyeurism and one count of possession of depiction of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.   It is believed the material was taped between 2006 and 2007 and may include Powell’s neighbors.

Pierce County prosecutors have not ruled out future additional charges.

Steven Powell, father of Joshua Powell, a person of interest in his wife Susan’s disappearance and all around dolt, was not seen fleeing the home in a midnight camping trip.

West Valley Police are referring all calls regarding the elder Powell’s arrest to the Pierce County Sheriff’s office and stress his case is unrelated to the ongoing investigation of Susan Powell’s whereabouts.

It is not known if as a result of Steve Powell’s arrest, Pierce County Child Services will be called to insure the safety and care of the two young Powell children, Charlie and Braden, as they spent a great deal of time with their 61 year old Grandperv  (hint to Chuck Cox).

(Editors Note: Who did not see that coming with the whole “flirtatious relationship” BS- this dude is a seriously sick f*ck. If you had any doubt, read this- a John Jay undergrad could profile this guy in 2 pages )

Aw, Joshy ran from the courtroom. Little temper tantrum because things aren’t going his way?

Divide & Conquer ! Daddy Steve is in jail and Josh is left to fend for himself. I suspect that Josh has had to do very little thinking on his own, for his whole life. Daddy Steve has always been there to pull the strings of puppet Josh in whatever direction he wanted.

Creep word of the day, for sure Lizzy!

The thought of those little boys living with Steve and Josh makes my blood boil! I am incredulous that it was allowed in the first place, since Josh has always been the only POI that LE had.

How in the he** does a decision like that get made in the first place? Does a judge say to himself, “Okay, Josh most likely killed his wife, but he’ll make a great dad.” ?? WTH?

Poor Susan, it added insult on injury that her sons had to live with her personal “nightmare” after her “disappearance”.

It’s feels like a judge said, “Here you go little boys, we are sending you to live with your sleazeball grandfather and your equally sleazeballish father (who more than likely offed your Mother)-sorry, but that’s the way the ball bounces!”

    How was that acceptable?

Could kinda end the speculation about why Susan wanted to move to Utah, couldn’t it? And if her hinky meter went off to even 1% of what mine (and most of yours) does just looking at this guy, is there any sentient being left who thinks she left her babies with them on purpose?

NOT! “Abscondence.” Creep word of the day, zeus.

The parents of a missing Utah mother have filed for custody of her two sons after the boys’ paternal grandfather was arrested on charges of voyeurism.

The boys, ages 4 and 6, were taken into protective custody Thursday night, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said. The boys had been living with their father, Josh Powell, at Powell’s father’s house in South Hill since shortly after their mother, Susan Cox Powell, disappeared from the family’s home in Utah in December 2009.

“We always err on the side of caution when it comes to kids,” he said.

They boys have since been put into state care and will be placed in a foster home at least for the time being, said Sherry Hill, spokeswoman for Children’s Administration.

“We are working with law enforcement to ensure the appropriate placement,” she said.

A court commissioner said Friday that he will not decide on the custody of the boys until after the state’s child welfare agency finishes its investigation. Another hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

“We’re very concerned for the welfare of our grandchildren. We’re doing everything we can,” said Chuck Cox, Susan Powell’s father, after the custody hearing.

Susan Powell’s parents, Charles and Judy Cox, filed for custody of their grandsons this morning. In the petition, they write that they prepared the document in anticipation of Josh Powell’s arrest in connection with their daughter’s disappearance. He’s been identified as the only person of interest in the case.

The petition outlines details of the marriage between Susan and Josh Powell and trouble that had been brewing in the years before her disappearance.

Hill said the custody petition was filed in a different court than what CPS works in now that the boys have been taken into protective custody. The state has 72 hours to file a dependency petition.

Susan Powell’s parents filed for custody of the two boys, who are 4 and 6, this morning. In their request, they ask that Josh Powell have no visitation unless it is strictly supervised.

“Father is not a suitable custodian for the children,” court documents state.

In the petition, Charles and Judy Cox write they believe Josh Powell’s arrest is imminent.

“We have prepared this custody petition in anticipation of Josh being arrested for the disappearance, kidnapping/murder of our daughter,” the petition states. “Obviously, we are hoping against hope and sending out many prayers that our daughter is somehow, some way, alive.”

LE will have their puzzle pieces to put together now and the card house will crumble.

Agreed, couldn’t happen to a nicer duo, imo.

As most of us have encountered as working Mom’s, Susan’s case resonates with me strongly.

I can remember coming out of “toddler stay at home mom status”, commuting, managing preschool and working from home, and how difficult that is without having a weenie husband and freak in law.

It will haunt me that she had to enlist her parents and set up accounts, and plan to flee this ahole perv and his wet-eared son.

Me thinks I better let y’all kibbitz amongst yourself, it would appear I have lost all executive restraint.

Judge blocks release of Susan Powell diaries; husband now says she may have committed suicide

The judge ruled Friday that not only can the diaries not be released, but any copies previously released to the media or the public have to be destroyed.

Prior to Friday’s ruling, Josh Powell filed a statement this week in response to motions filed in court. In it, he stated that “helping her be understood is the best means of bringing her home.”

But Powell raised questions about whether his wife was even still alive.

Josh Powell filed a 22-page response regarding the effort to block the diaries from being released. In it, he again states that he believes his wife ran away, and because of her “emotional instability” may have “committed suicide.”

Powell also states there is no person by the legal name of “Susan Cox Powell.” He claims the Cox family is using that name as a way to “divorce me from my wife.”

“They say they did that because their daughter would not want to remain married to Josh Powell if she knew how he has ‘impeded’ the investigation into her disappearance,” the court records state.

“I did not kill my wife. I have never abused her. I have cooperated with law enforcement in investigating her disappearance,” Josh Powell said in court papers. West Valley police, however, have repeatedly said Josh Powell has not cooperated with them and that’s why they consider him a person of interest in his wife’s disappearance.

Oh praise the Lord that these two little boys have FINALLY been removed from that household and the daily influence of these two freakazoids!!
Best news I’ve heard in a long time.

After a long agonizing wait, it sounds like LE are really putting the heat on freaks Jr + Sr. now and have evidence to progress the case and maybe (hopefully) locate Susan’s body eventually.
But getting those 2 little guys out of that house and their influence was priority #1. MOO
Josh seems like such a dullard slug – who has been following the directions of Freak-in-Law as to how to continue the cover-up of Susan’s disappearance.
With Sr in the pokey and unable to talk to Josh 24/7 – maybe LE can get more info out of Josh.

Susan’s parents Chuck and Judy Cox are filing for custody of the boys as soon as CPS can process their investigation.
I pray the boys can move in with the Cox’s ASAP – to have that stable home with loving G’Parents and the help they’re going to need after the brainwashing that the Powell’s have inflicted upon them.
Those little guys are 6 and 4 now.
I can only imagine the BS stories that freak Jr and Sr have been telling these kids about their Mom – filling their heads with garbage I’m sure.

This article says that investigators have found THOUSANDS of images of females that were filmed without their knowledge in various stages of undress. Some as young as 8 y/o.

“I think it very clearly shows that (Susan’s) concerns were justified about Steven Powell, it supports everything she said about him,” he said. “My daughter did not want those grandchildren in that house. I’m glad they’re not in there now.”

    This:

“In his petition, Cox said that according to Josh Powell’s sister, Jennifer Graves, Steven Powell was “into pornography, prostitutes, anti-government, anti-social conduct and behaviors. Steven Powell had suggested at one time that Susan could in fact be a ‘common wife’ to both he and Josh.”

    This:

“In the petition for custody, Cox also states that Kirk and Jennifer Graves, who live in Utah and are estranged from Josh and Steven Powell, are willing to step in as a third party for custody.”

    This:

“The Coxes also say police have wanted to interview the young boys about their mother’s disappearance, and have a person who specializes in interviewing young witnesses lined up in Washington should they get custody, court documents state.”

I thought the Graves would offer to do that, and as a third option, I support it, but I really think for the duration, it is best if the children are with the Cox’s. I have seen Mr. Cox exercise HERCULEAN restraint in the face of Steve Cox, and I believe he will never utter a negative syllable to those boys.

While these guys need a maternal figure, based on their age, current situation, and obvious maternal strife given the status of their mom, I really believe they need that once removed, like Grandma.

Now we need to make certain that the CPS people do the right thing. I generally trust them about as far as I can throw my truck.

Susan, IMO did not commit suicide. This woman had too much going to take that route.

At this point this speculation. I think Susan may have discovered some of this lewd and illegal material including those of herself.
Instead of keeping her mouth shut and reporting it to the authorities, she confronted Josh. He alerted the pervert and the two of them together worked to prevent her reporting their activities.

The judge at Powell’s arraignment ordered him not to have contact with his grandsons. A lawyer for the state attorney general said earlier that the boys had been placed in foster care since the arrest.

After the hearing, Denise Cox, Susan Powell’s older sister, said she was worried that Steven Powell would easily post bail. She said she believes that both son and father were involved in the disappearance.

“I’m just hoping for the day that hopefully Josh will join him,” she said.

“It’s been a long wait and it gets harder every day,” she said, as she cried spoke in front of a throng of reporters and television news cameras.

At Powell’s arraignment, prosecutor Grant Blinn said detectives are still going through the seized items, but so far have found more than 1,000 video files. He said it appeared he had been secretly videotaping girls or women for at least 10 years.

Before the hearing, he sat in the back row of the small courtroom wearing a blue jacket, jeans, white sneakers with the treads worn off — and his wedding ring.

Powell flipped through a thick stack of legal documents and told an Associated Press reporter “no” when asked if he had anything to say about his dad’s arrest. He ignored several other questions.

Susan Powell’s father called the allegations against Steven Powell disgusting. “It very clearly shows her concerns were just about Steven Powell,” Chuck Cox said.

Josh Powell barred from publishing Susan Powell’s diary entries

Judge Vicki Hogan granted Susan Powell’s parents’ request for a **preliminary injunction**
in a hearing that coincidentally fell the day after her father-in-law, Steve Powell, was arrested on suspicion of possessing child pornography.

The Powell planned to publish the journal entries on the website they operate, susanpowell.org. They had also given out copies of the entries to several reporters. Hogan said Friday that the Coxes attorneys would be responsible for calling reporters about those copies.

“This is one of those times when privacy outweighs free speech,” said Evan Bariault, an attorney for Chuck and Judy Cox, Susan Powell’s parents.

Hogan also set a bond of $5,000 – an amount the Coxes may not be able to pay, their pro-bono attorneys said. Hogan may reconsider the bond, and asked for attorneys to get back to her on the issue by Oct. 10. She scheduled an optional hearing for that day.

No additional hearings on whether to make the injunction permanent were immediately set.

After the hearing, Denise Cox, Susan Powell's sister, said she believes Steven Powell either had something to do with her sister's disappearance or knows something about it.

"Give up. I wanna know, I want to know what happened to her," was her tearful message to Steven Powell.

Cox said she has accepted the fact her sister is likely dead.

"I hope the truth comes out soon," she said. "It's hard. I want this all to come to a close."

Also Friday, the parents of Susan Powell for the first time directly accused Josh Powell in connection with their daughter's disappearance.

"We have been reluctant to acknowledge what has been the feeling of many others and that is simply that our daughter is dead. Whether our daughter is being held against her will somewhere or whether she is dead, we both believe the father, Josh Powell, is directly responsible for her disappearance," Chuck and Judy Cox said in court documents filed Friday.

Also Friday, in Pierce County, Chuck Cox requested custody of Susan and Josh's two sons, ages 6 and 4, in a nearly ***90-page*** document in which he now directly accuses Josh Powell of his daughter's disappearance.

Cox was asked about all of the activity of the past 24 hours, including the arrest of Steven Powell.

"I think it's a sad day for the Powell family that this has come out. I am relieved that the children are no longer in that household," he said.

Cox said he did not know if any of the pornographic material seized from Steven Powell's house included his grandchildren. He called the crimes Steven Powell is accused of committing "disgusting."

Oh, the ugly journeys we trek in this quest to protect our Innocents.

Even as the first yucky bits of information about Steven Powell began floating to the top media-wise-and especially given Josh’s refusal to allow the boys to be interviewed regarding Susan’s disappearance and events surrounding that-I began to wonder, nay come to an educated conclusion, that these two precious children of God and us, have likely been sexually victimized.

I know this is hard to read or to think about, but I have wondered for some time now if it’s possible that our Susan became aware of Steve and/or Josh victimizing her babies and a confrontation led to her death at the hands of one or both. I no longer see Josh as such a bumbling idiot as much as I see a young young child in a grown body–a child who has built his life on going around, over, under, and far from—but never through—this awful pain brought onto him by his own father. His denial is immense. It has had to be, and whether it led him to murder or to assist in the cover-up of a murder remains to be seen. Please forgive me for my candid words, but I do not believe Susan is alive. Show us the way to Susan, Josh.

I was shocked when I read headline on daddy-o. Further disgusted at the details in the article. (I think I threw up in my mouth a little.) But, I turned to my dear hubby and said, “OMG, Blink’s head is going to explode.” Kaaaaboooom!

    Luv ya Blink!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we must keep in mind that Josh could easily get those kids back if they cannot find any evidence that he himself actually abused or neglected them in some way. If they are fed, clean and have gotten medical care and Children’s Services interviews them and finds no sign of sexual abuse, he might get them back. They cannot take the kids and keep them from their parents without a serious reason that can be confirmed/verified.

In my state, registered sex offenders who have done their time and not abused their own kids do not lose custody of their own kids.

I am not saying I agree with all this, I’m just stating what I have known from experience with family and friends.

I’m almost ashamed that I can’t muster up one iota of concern about josh committing suicide but I can see a lifetime of conflicting messages and confusing mental images for the kids.
Yes, true that he could take the truth of Susan’s whereabouts with him but weighed against a lifetime of stable, consistent and truthful living family…I’d think that was a better choice.

Anyhoo, it hasn’t happened so maybe he’ll be so frazzled without the brains (snarkguffuffle) of the operation in the pokey, he’ll start talking…I’ll make him some of those yummy pancakes that he made if it would help.

I think it’s cool my ‘freak in law’ caught on. I’m beginning to think it’s more of an understatement, however.

My fears….first offense, probation? As for Josh committing suicide, I hope he’s under some kind of surveillance to prevent him from taking the cowardly way out.

WOW!….What were the whereabouts of this Perv…the night of Susan’s demise?

  41. amg7731 says:

LaurieO…I was thinking the same thing. There has to be serious circumstances involved when it comes to taking kids away from parents. I am thinking that there must be a thought by the PA that Josh knew about this sick world that his father surrounded himself with. With that being said, I am sure that any little knowledge that he had and not reporting it, and allowing it to go on with his young boys in the home would be grounds for him NOT getting the boys back. On the other hand, if they find no evidence of Josh having knowledge about what his disguisting dad was doing, then I am not sure that they will be able to keep the boys from him.

  42. amg7731 says:

Hejlena, I was thinking along the same lines somewhat…there has always been a little something that doesnt seem right when he speaks…I attributed some of it to shyness, alot of it to guilt. As I watch his demenaor and body language in some of the interviews, I see exactly what you mean by saying “young child in a grown body”….I wonder what will come in the next few days…

Just do not understand why the little boys were not removed long ago at least to a neutral place if family was not an option. Steven Powell seems to be getting “sicker” to the point of being proud of his little fantasy world he has crafted for himself. Why the H was Susan still there and Why the H IS Josh still there? And who are the others he has pictures of who who took without them knowing????? How the heck did he do that? Good Grief…sick, sick, sick and seems proud of it.

  44. gigi says:

Just reread…oh gee, this house of cards must come down. What have the little boys been told about their mom? What loony tune drags two toddlers out of bed at midnight in below freezing weather and drives hundreds of miles just to test a new generator??? And what was Steve doing during that time? Scrubbing the kool aid stain or making more porn?? Do you, Blnk, think mommy killed herself? It seemed that we were working toward an end only now to be back at the beginning.

Blink said, “It will haunt me that she had to enlist her parents and set up accounts, and plan to flee this ahole perv and his wet-eared son.”

Am I correct in surmising that her parents knew some horrific stuff about these two creeps prior to her going missing? Dear Lord, how have her parents held it together all this time? Herculean is right! I have no doubt they shared all with LE – but how in the world were Freak N Son able to keep Susan’s parents from seeing the boys? I hope one of these aholes implode, ASAP.

I cant fathom Josh not being aware of his fathers warped sexual proclivities. It’s the reason his sister distanced herself from the family cited in several links already posted here. IMO Susan knew too and was the basis for her departure and probably stated such to Josh which he relayed to FIL. Could Josh have been instructed by daddy to take the boys out of the house that night and he would take care of the problem. So technically Josh didn’t do the hands on dirty work? The camping story to test a generator is as far fetched as FILs accusation of Susan being sexual around him. They seem to live in their fantasy world and expect others to buy into it too.

  49. Word Girl says:

Apparently, Josh’s mom, Terrica (Teri) Powell, is living with Jennifer and had a wonderful relationship with Susan, according to
