Kyron Horman Missing Case Breaking News: Remains Believed To Be Human Located Off Sauvie Island

Sauvie Island, Oregon-There are unconfirmed reports that a teenage boy fishing off of Sauvie Island located a human skull, and potentially other human body parts.

Update 1:  As referenced on KOIN,  a teenage fisherman believes he snagged a scalp with human hair attached, which he originally thought was horse hair.  Columbia County detectives cordoned off the scene last evening and MCSO dive teams entered the water but found nothing.  The possible “hair” was sent for testing.

Multnomah County Sheriff Office will not comment on the find, or confirm  whether their office has facilitated the removal of same, or forwarded any items to the medical examiner for testing.

Following the disappearance of Kyron Horman,  Sauvie Island has been the subject of repeated searchers for the missing Skyline second grader with no results.

It is also the former home of a man considered to be  Federal fugitive following a confrontation with a Lincoln City officer with nearly fatal results.  Officer Steven Dodds was able to return to duty after extensive rehabilitation.

Durham was a Sauvie Island resident for over 6 years and a volunteer fire fighter until he was removed from duty 6 months prior to the shooting.

David Durham’s dog was recovered injured following what appeared to be an accident in the suspects vehicle  and is being cared for by a friend of the family.  Mr. Durham has not been seen since his vehicle was recovered in the bay town of Waldport, Oregon.

Please check back to www.blinkoncrime.com for updates to this breaking story.

You know, the most recent sketch of an older Kyron didn’t really phase me because I pictured an older Kyron much differently. This news, OMG, this news phases me. Over the years I’ve imagined myself holding that little boy in my arms, making all his hurt and confusion disappear. I’ve also felt he is no longer with us so my hope has always been that at least his remains will be found (second only to a live Kyron being found). Sending loving and lifting thoughts to Desiree and Kaine today.

I am curious whether something is done in the process of using human hair to make a wig that would affect DNA testing of the hair. In other words, could you tell the human hair was from a wig and not directly from a person? Not saying that is the case here, of course. The fisherman was quoted (koin.com) as saying there was scalp attached, but LE said no scalp. That’s what made me think of a wig. Regardless of how this turns out, I’d still like to know the answer to my question for future reference, if anyone knows.

A human hair wig would not have any root material so one could tell if it was human under a scope fairly easily. I agree I thought of a wig as well. If it is a long haired red one, you can see where this is going.

Kyron’s hair was short. I first was ready to discount it being Kyron because my mind pictured the mane or the tail of a horse. I also thought of horsehair stuffing in furniture. The hide however of a horse is short. I can not stand the thought of it being little Kyron’s hair. OMG this is a picture in my mind that I do not want.

On Monday KOIN did hear from Jeffrey Dickerson with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. He confirmed “a fisherman pulled a wad of what appeared to be human hair out of the water” on his fishing line. However, Dickerson said no scalp was attached.

Dickerson said the hair is being sent to the Oregon State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

He said the Multnomah County Sheriff’s dive team “could find nothing” to suggest a human body was nearby.

All of us locals know that a lot of people drown in our rivers, too many. Sometimes they are not found at all, sometimes I think no one even knows because so many transients hang out near the rivers in the Summer.
I’ll not get hyped up over this until we hear more, or perhaps I should say IF we hear more.

Hopeful and eager for updated Blink/Lea post-suit analysis.

Re Kaine, I subscribe to the MBS perspective in all respects.

I relied on TRuth’s kptv snip:
“I’ve had the conversation with many people, about just that feeling of how unfair it is to ask a parent … to take a guess,” Kaine Horman said.” TRuth went on to say: “I also wonder why he didn’t provide the People Mag reporters with the updated photo….” I suppose parents of abducted all have different takes. Personally I think the Nat’l Center asking parents to eyeball updates and render opinions before publication serves two purposes, neither an “unfair guess” First is mere courtesy and deference; Kyron is his child.
It would be presumptuous of Nat’l Ctr to publish without his input.
Second, it is a way of bonding with and enlisting parents in the objective of actually disseminating the new photo.
The Nat’l Ctr’s new photo work is only as good as pardnts will disseminate. Since Kaine didn’t put it in the People article, what can we conclude about objective 2 is what I thought TRuth was pondering

The age progression software cannot be open to influence of opinion. The reason is, unless one is an expert in the field, it opens the window for bias where there should be none.

I am not understanding If I adamantly believed my child was being held against his will 2 years later, why one would not want that image everywhere possible.

It may be 2013 before I finish a new piece in this case, the contradictions of all parties are utterly overwhelming.

  9. Jack says:

Blink – when you said in #7 above that “the contradictions of all parties are utterly overwhelming”, did you mean contradictions regarding what happened the day Kyron went missing, or contradictions regarding things that have happened since? In light of some criticism about LE focusing only on TH right away, is it safe to assume that LE had (and still has) a lot more information than we do about what happened to Kyron and who is likely responsible?

I am referring to the civil and family court filings- they are incongruent to say the least.

There are no criminal filings, again, incongruent.

This report says “There were about 10 strands of light-brown hair, about five inches long, according to one of the fishermen, Steve Klinger.”

If that is accurate they would not likely belong to Kyron. It could be horse hair, cow tail hair, dog hair…impossible to say until it is tested.

  15. foobros says:

One thing about the hair being around five inches long – the hair and nails continue to grow after someone dies. It is a commonly believed MYTH that “hair and nails continue to grow after death”.

  31. mag603 says:

  34. Lea Conner says:

Not to get all technical, but hair and nails do not “grow” after death. Skin (including scalp and cuticles) shrinks post mortem, so hair and nails appear to grow.

And nobody calls 9-1-1 because they found 10 strands of hair.

    Driving Directions:

  38. erose says:

DAD’s SI address as reported by Beejay eons ago. It’s a mere 8 minutes away. Not suggesting that he left his home and then went to the launch, but definately familiar territory.

Anyone know if “Rocky Point Farms” on Sauvie Island goes by another name?

“On Monday, a Multnomah County Sheriff’s vehicle blocked access to the Sauvie Island Road where Durham lives, and crime tape was seen around one of the cottages (there are four buildings) at Rocky Point Farms.

Durham’s address is 24510 NW Sauvie Island Road.”

and from Blink’s article same link:

It also showed that Mr. Durham was a previous resident on Sauvie Island at another address 2.5 miles South, and directly adjacent to Logie Rd across the channel.

  39. erose says:

Using the Sauvie Island Road from Skyline Elementary School to the boat launch is a 13 minute drive. Goes right by DAD’s house. Using Cornelius Pass adds two minutes to the drive. I encourage everyone to google map the addresses to see just how close, and either coincidental or unfortunately-sadly-devastatingly purposeful this could be. How many times did we hear the names of these exact roads from LE? I just can’t get over the proximity of the last know location of a missing small child and the house of a resident who unexpectedly turned fugitive.

Is it really possible that a dive team would be sent for just 10 strands of hair? I’m sure they could just skim the top of the water and collect 10 strands…I don’t get it.

I am quite sure it was attached to some sort of matter that gave the appearance it was scalp tissue otherwise, no, nobody is calling 911 and nobody is retrieving it. I think the whole thing is being downplayed for a reason.

That is upriver from where the Willamette River and Multnomah Channel empty into the Columbia. I’m not an expert, however based on this info., the boy’s body would have to somehow be taken upstream from the Columbia into the Multnomah Channel to end up where this “hair” was found. I can’t imagine how that would be possible, the currents are far too swift, IMHO. I hate even typing this, Gob bless that boy and his family, such a tragedy.

One thing about the hair being around five inches long – the hair and nails continue to grow after someone dies. A body being under water could affect the amount of time that the hair would continue to grow (and if it would grow?). I’m far from being an expert, but I thought I’d put it out here. Maybe someone with some expertise could clarify what would happen to a body under water, as opposed to burial underground.

Hair and nails do not continue to grow after someone dies.
    http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/ART02909/Seven-Medical-Myths.html

Hair and fingernails continue to grow after death: This disturbing, gruesome image is pure “moonshine” according to forensic anthropologist William Maples, who was quoted in the BMJ study. However, he explained that dehydration of the body after death can cause retraction of the skin around hair and nails, giving the illusion that they have grown. All tissues require energy to sustain their functions, and no such thing is possible once the mechanism that promotes normal growth shuts down at death.

Thanks MuffyBee- your 100% correct and I missed that comment from Foosbros
