Missing Iowa Girls Lyric and Elizabeth: New Evidence Found, Lake Cleared, Dad Dan Morrissey Is Suspect. Is A Jailbreak Connected?
Evansdale, Iowa- Lyric Morrissey and Elizabeth Collins have been missing from what their Grandmother Wylma Cook described as “within her view from the home” for over one week. Myers Lake, approximately a 27 acre body of water surrounded by a Nature bike trail which yielded the tweens bikes and purse, has been cleared after consultation with the Elite FBI CSI dive team.

On July 12th, the day before the girls disappeared, Daniel Morrissey was due to enter a guilty plea in a pending Federal drug arrest. Instead, he requested the matter be scheduled/reset for trial. In response, prosecutors swiftly requested the court place Morrissey under appropriate pre-trial supervision for his alleged crimes.
On Thursday, prosecutors with the Black Hawk County Attorney’s Office asked a judge to review Morrissey’s release, pointing out that Iowa Code state people charged with conspiracy to manufacture meth being a second offender — one of the charges Morrissey is facing — shall be under supervision as a condition of their release.
Occurring almost simultaneously to Morrissey’s plea filing which he did not attend personally, a Black Hawk county prisoner broke out of jail, robbed a pharmacy and was on the lam for over 18 hours.
Jeremy Alan Mask, fond of controlled substances which led to his arrests is now in custody and additional charges related to the escape were filed against Mask the following day. Mask was sentenced to a residential treatment center following a burglary of a Walgreens last April.
Are the incidents connected? Investigators are not talking. Except to say they now have video footage of the girls at about the time they were both seen. No mention as to whether or not the girls were on their bikes.
Investigators may be tight lipped- But they ARE acting.
Yesterday Black Hawk County detectives revised a no contact order barring Dan Morrissey from being near his wife Misty- although they have appeared together and have been living together for weeks- following a domestic violence assault which landed both Dan and Misty back in prison last August.
As reported exclusively last week on www.blinkoncrime.com, Dan Morrissey for the assault and Misty Cook-Morrissey for extensive probation/parole violations.
The pair are now permitted to be in each other’s company, provided LE agents are as well.
Misty Cook Morrissey’s sister Tammy Brossueau has confirmed that detectives have directly confronted Dan Morrissey with information they developed pointing to him as a suspect and as a result the estranged couple have refused to cooperate further in the investigation to locate their daughter and her cousin Elizabeth.
Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office Captain Rick Abben officially declared the case an abduction at a 4 PM press conference yesterday afternoon.
Abben also announced a $50,000 reward is being offered leading to the person or persons responsible for the disappearance of the girls. He confirmed said evidence has been seized in the investigation and sent to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation crime lab in Des Moines. While he would not comment on the evidence specifically, sources inside the investigation speaking on the condition of anonymity to www.blinkoncrime.com have confirmed that items from the home including a computer and other electronic devices are among the listed property inventory.

Yes, I am correct about recover video. There are a lot of programs to recapture still and moving images. When the frame is deleted, the camera doesn’t erase the file body which makes it recoverable.
I’m sure LE/CSI must make use of these sorts of programs quite a bit in their work. (Or they are wishing they could!!)

Blink – in your first article on these two girls you are referencing the Evansdale house is also Planetary Tree Service. The online court records show that DM had a mandatory wage withholding order from Planetary Tree Service. I wonder if there are other employees? Did someone they recognize offer them a ride in the tree truck? Certainly wouldn’t be strange to have a tree service truck in the Meyer Lake area. (Just trying to think of anything to find them!)

Excuse me for being so shallow, but i watched a video of the mother and dad sitting on the couch and talking about God bringing the girls home safe…I turned off the sound and just watched their body language….(Purple nails) How can these people get their nails did? I wouldnt give two shakes about what i looked like on camera in front of the world if my kids were missing…her nails put right out in front and she keeps talking and putting them front and center on display…she is proud of these nails. I dont know what i would be doing…but it probably would be along the lines of crying uncontrolably, pleading, worried and not carring at all wha ti looked like on camera….cant imagine i could even get a bath or shower let alone make- up and my hair and NAILS DID. ??? weird wierd weird behavior coming from these folks…

Bringing forward Ode’s link posted regarding Misty and the details of her involvement in meth because I think it is important to note that, as Blink has said, Misty was definitely involved in a more “sophisticated” operation while Dan was not. I’m sure that while Dan has “spilled the beans” so to say on more than a few people, the people that Misty may have betrayed were definitely higher up on the rung and even more likely to seek revenge or just to shut her up or send a message. I almost feel like the bikes at the lake were a red herring. I know the dogs picked on the girls’ scent, but could that have just been from the bikes and the purse? Was Lyric the target and Elizabeth just happened to be there with her at the wrong time? Maybe the bikes were placd at the lake because someone knew LE and FBI would absolutely drain the lake to be able to say conclusively the girls were not in the lake? A considerable amount of time was spent searching and draining the lake, maybe the person who took the girls had taken this into consideration and knew this would give them the extra time to escape with the girls. Many questions and no answers.
So Daniel’s trial date has been delayed…figures.

LE waiting for someone who was paddle-boating on the lake to come forward…. umm… Anyone who was paddle-boating in the lake probably boats there often if not at least occassionally. LE should be asking the public to contact them if they know anyone in the area who even owns a paddle-boat, and then start making visits. Waiting for someone to come forward seems too passive. The boater might be a witness who is afraid to come forward for a varity of reasons..

I looked on Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Department website and didn’t see Jason Stolfus listed in the Warrant Issued section or the In Jail section. So maybe they found him and he’s all set? Anyone know?
Just wanted to respond to Ms. Wylma Cook’s statement about Dan ratting out a bunch of people, the same could probably be said of Misty. I’d be surprised if someone wasn’t after Misty. She gets 4 years and does 5 months after testifying against someone who gets almost 11 years. Sounds like it may be a retribution payback for her giving testimony. In the drug world that is taboo. I’d be checking out the guy’s contacts, visitors list, and letters in prison. Just a thought.
Regarding the fact that Dan’s trial was originally the day before the girls went missing, could he have told prosecutors he would come clean and give them more names but to get the kids out of town? Just seems the judge is being especially lenient with him.
Regarding Uncle Jeremiah’s overdose:

I did read that Misty’s boyfriend, Jeffrey Wyant, had been staying at a house owned by Carl Wyant, very near the location the bikes were found. Wyant was not at the house July 20-22, 2012 because he was in jail.
The video of the girls biking shows them moving very quickly.
I estimate 6 minutes to the lake, via Evans St.
Actually, I think they may have been headed to Jeremy’s house, but either got intercepted and left their bikes or they were abducted and the bikes were later placed there.
The timeline is shaky, but I think the fast riding makes it fit better.

I think that uneqiverably our society doesn’t understand nor appreciate the devastation of drug use and the mental illness that it brings with it for it’s participants while they are using..nor the toll it is taking nationally on our beloved children of these families. Drug users do not make good parents ..they don’t even make good guardians for themselves ..and that doesn’t just mean while using..that means in the day to day world..they become blinded to the dangers in the drug community they are placing themselves and their family in the path of..they are not in the realm of people who think about the greater good..but strictly their own good..whatever that maybe at that day, that hour, that minute…
Just more of the me generation and drugs are harmless talk makes me so angry. Drugs hurt and drugs kill..there are no two ways around it..ans many of of country’s young people are their victims ..in one way or another. There is no harmless drug use..if the drugs you buy support a cartel or the guy down the street society pays..and often it is the children of these people ..because they are absent mentally as parents..and place their children in harms way by exposing them to other people who are absent yet living in this world.

While perusing Lyric’s friends on FB I had found a young female relative of hers who had been in trouble with drugs (I’m not sure if she was in possession or dealing, or what). Sounded like she did jail time, or at least had feared she would, last December. I also wonder if Misty’s involvement in a sophisticated operation involved any of her extended family, and is it possible Dan “narc’ed” on them?
These folks talk about drugs way too casually and openly IMO.
Those poor girls. I hope they are found safe and sound.

That’s why I love about BOC. Posts are NOT dissertations. We’re focusing on the cause, not the grammar or spelling.
Y’all are an amazing bunch and I for one, have never given the spelling or grammar errors a second thought. A real advocate sees the message quite clearly.
