Suspect In Rape And Murder Of Megan Sharpton Is Arrested- Donnie Frank Jones In Custody For Felony Gun Possession

Donnie Frank Jones, Jr, 37, of Tullahoma, TN was arrested this afternoon after a search warrant at his home revealed the convicted felon was in possession of a firearm.   The elementary school which is also on Bel Air Drive, was in lockdown this afternoon during the search.

Jones is the prime suspect in the brutal murder of Megan Sharpton, and is linked to her death via a CODIS match as previously reported on BOC.

Details are still emerging, check back to www.blinkoncrime.com for updates.

So is Flossie backing away from DJ or just not on this particular charge in Coffee County?

  4. annals says:

Yep; DJ’s mouthing and hand signing about a cell phone. In the 1st seconds of the video he looks inquisitively, makes the hand sign and mouths the words; cell phone. Toward the end of the video he makes the same hand sign, shakes his head (negative) and mouths the words; I don’t know.

Question? One report states that DJ wants to talk to investigators about the case but he is waiting to have a lawyer present. I can’t imagine this to be true considering his narcissistic personality. Have you heard anything like this???

Thx Slowroller for your perspective. I didn’t mean to imply that DJ was or is a gang member. A real prison gangster would eat him for breakfast.

It did look to me as if he was giving a hang loose sign and the second one could be a “cell phone” sign.

Here’s an interesting website about gangs:

I don’t know if the writer is as expert as slowroller, but it’s got some hand signals that are nothing like the one DJ used.

Your expression about Megan’s desire to help others is so true. However, we must remember that we live as free will beings in an imperfect world. Each of us has a choice to be the best we can each day or to fall back on our animal heritage and behave as did the savages of ages ago. Bit by bit society manages to make progress towards perfection sometimes in big steps and sometimes sliding backwards.

We no longer live in an actual “jungle” as primitives, but we still live amongst people who have made choices that lead them to harm others. Caring about the well being of our fellows requires vigilance for ourselves and others.

I spent three hours last Sunday afternoon meeting with a group of people where the topic of discussion was real values and how they could be made more important for society as a whole.

Political correctness is a false value and is IMO singularly responsible in allowing society to actually regress in the last fifty years. It is our caring that helps. You and many others who post are a part of our society that are making a difference.

We lend our support to those in need and we teach and learn from one another.

During this time, our young women are at great risk as our society makes the transistion from the old values of women being limited in what they can do to allowing them all the opportunities of total freedom.

OK. @texasgrandfather, I’ve officially adopted you as my father. (Because surely you’re not old enough to be my grandfather…)

    wise words from you.

You know, you hear about horrific crimes and as humans, we have a ‘detached sympathy/detached grief for them. (Example, my mom religiously reads obituaries *retired hospice nurse” she calls me almost daily. ‘Guess who died?’ ) I feel empathy, but no grief feelings. Make sense? Not a sense of grief as if were my own.
Some cases grab attention, it appeals to a more personal level. You can feel the hurt and the what if it were me feelings.

Megs case touched most of us locals for many reasons. One was her family is good people, she wasn’t out partying, she was trying to work at advancing her career. Her mom touched our hearts with her pain.

The whole ‘good ol boy’ situation hit most of us as we knew it was working, but here was some proof.

Still you can mention the crime and there are people that honestly don’t know about it, they had ‘heard’ about it in July then shoved it away and just don’t follow it like alot of us.

I have two older daughters, I don’t know Kelly’s grief but deeply empathize for her.

There are lots of crimes here that get pushed under rugs…hushed.
someday I’m going to count how many I know of.

I hear from LE that this area is ripe for drug traffic, central to interstates. Half between major cities in all 4 directions. Meth is a problem here. My understanding is rx abuse is extremely high in this area.
As said before, it makes people do awful things.

I have followed Megan’s case since the beginning and intend to see justice through. I know its coming. Her family deserves their peace.

I know the DA has to have the burden of proof, and I know we are impatient. At least for now he is hopefully working extra diligently on that.

Keep talking. Keep it out in the open. If you have private things to say, LET BLINK or FRANKLIN COUNTY know now.

Blink,I have seen several posts from people mentioning that there is a name they have heard that has not yet surfaced,or something along those lines.

Today,I was told that Meg and her boyfriend Chris recently evicted a room mate,in fact, less than a week before Megan’s murder.

Does a guy by the last name of Rozar have anything to do with this to your knowledge? Just wondering. Feel free to edit if I said something wrong.

    TitanFan-

You did nothing wrong. Robbie Rozar was living with Chris and Megan for a few months leading up to the week before her murder. If I am not mistaken, he passed a polygraph as to any involvement in what happened to her, and was upfront with LE about any activities of his that might come under scrutiny.

It is also my understanding that Meg asked Robbie to move out because she had a concern that his “activities” could reflect poorly on her as a committed nursing student and he was not working.

Meg was extremely proud , hard working and attending night school. The very little help her pride would allow her Momma to help out was not going to be squandered- she was far too appreciative.

To be frank- Megan was subject to random drug testing throughout her courses, she was tested 48 hours prior to her death, and was 100% clean to the entire tox panel. All nursing students are subject to same.

I have heard the rumors about Meg’s death being a hit for stolen drugs. If that has any merit, I can tell you as a fact that had nothing to do with Megan Sharpton.

I am aware of Rozar’s past, yes.

    Christy
Thank you for having the confidence in my words to choose to adopt me as a father figure or maybe a grandfather. I was very lucky to have an actual grandmother who did not treat me as a little backward child, but taught me daily the things I needed to know about behavior and acquiring knowledge about the world in which I would live. Not only did I have her to teach me, but she made certain that I was included in conversations with her contemparaies and in them treated as an equal. Children have the ability to absorb much more information and understand good values than most adults understand.

If you were born after 1968 I would qualify in age to be your grandfather. Our oldest grandchild is 35 and that is because our oldest boys delayed marriage and did not have children. It took our girls to give us grandchildren. They are numbers four and five of our six children.

I care about the people in our country. Sensless acts such as taking the life of a young woman like Megan have to be stopped. We can do that by making ourselves aware of what goes on in our communities and doing what we can to make them better.

Tonight, I spent some time learning more about Tullahoma including time with Google Earth looking at the town and in particular at the large number of churches in the community. That is a good sign that there are many who live the right way and do good for others.

Not to get all possessive and weird and …..well, I adopted you first! On a friendlier note, Christy, welcome to the BOC family. Without your compassionate and informative posts, we wouldn’t be able to embrace the full impact of Megan’s murder on a much more personal level. Kelly Sharpton, you, and the community have helped us to see the real Megan and I for one, feel like I know her. She has become all our starry girl and I KNOW her spirit has lead many in the fight to put her killer away. We’re on the right path.

I was so deeply moved by Kelly Sharpton’s post on FB that Megan visits her loved ones in their sleep. She is so close and no doubt, the spark that engages her family and Tullahoma to keep pressing forward. It says a lot about who she was om life. Beautiful, spirited, compassionate, lovely, loyal, dutiful and ambitious (to name a few). She loved her family and friends with all her heart and soul. I love the way Kelly talks about her and allows us to see into her life, through her eyes and actions. Talking about Meg and her murder the way she does, reminds us this is the world’s loss. So many needed to know her. :(

…and I better stop before I my eyes swell and my nose is completely depraved of drawing in air.

Y’all have another kind of family here at BOC. Infinite love and light~~~

We can stand out front, together, with silent but STRONG resolve for Megan. We can go as far as the lobby in the shirts. If you plan to go to the hearing there will be a “roll call”. He will be present for that& stting at the front most likely. It will last…about 30 mins. To be a part of that you may not wear your shirt but we can wear a star or something purple (the color of Meg’s star tattoos). Then there will be a break. We are free to leave at that point. The next step is the hearing. May take as long as 3 hours and you will not be allowed to leave the courtroom during this process. I am thankful for each of you that wants to be there for PEACE for Megan. Let’s remember thats what this is about. PLEASE do not engage with his wife (she will try) or his family. It’s not about them, dont give them ANYTHING. It’s about Megan… only. and our love and support of her shiny starry life.

  27. Christy says:

ATG, I’ve always said we’ve got a bank and a church on every corner.

Ragdoll, I think Kelly has shown the love Megan shared and received and that has helped her case get the support it deserves.

Every case has someone that carries that for the victim, but this case hit home for so many.
The ridiculous way DJ just roamed around afterwards, and my outrage was especially strong when he was “sent back into the stadium” after the officer told him to, the night he harassed one of the family members at the football game.
That officer KNEW he was THE prime suspect.
He should have at the very least, told him to just go home. Not throw him back in the stadium with thousands of girls.

Of course, there are many things that outrage me over this whole thing. I know the process for burden of proof. I’m trying hard to think positive.
I think as Kelly and her other children and family show love and peace, it gives us all strength.

There is nothing I want more than her family to have that.

I’m betting and hoping that DJ is not so cocky at this moment and IS a scared coward and meek.

Now, his wife needs to get charged with her involvement. And someone save her kids.

  28. redly says:

    ___________________________________________________________

I have a relative who went there. I believe you have to take a drug test when applying and one before you start your clinicals. I think you have to do random testing only if there is some basis for them to request it — i.e., a teacher, other student or you etc. have reported some past issue/reason for concern.

I can only speak to the fact that she had a few tests throughout and they were all negative and there was never a request by any third party to take any, it was standard.

I don’t know anyone involved; I’d never heard of them until this came out. Like I said before, my interest in this case was initially due to a former classmate having fallen victim to a very similar crime. I’m just piecing things together as they unfold. Anything I say is just an opinion, of which I have many loud ones.

My initial reaction was that she had to have known the person who did this to her. Someone willing to get close enough to have looked in her eyes. It seemed intensely personal. In the case of my friend, it was a boyfriend (with a prior violent record). I understand hers is not in question, which begs the question of how she knew DJ. Also, meth (or some other form of speed) springs to mind. Yes, I’m profiling from looking at pictures, but I had a jinkies moment about the aggression; I have no factual basis to back that up.

I’m not doubting that DJ has sociopathic tendencies. Not in the least. I just think he’s cockier than smart. IMHO, he’s an idiot. Granted, I’m fairly certain he had accomplices. Usually, people like he would target people he doesn’t find particularly intelligent (with more loyalty than sense) that he could manipulate to do his dirty/light work. This and how Megan would have known DJ is what bothers me about the Naomi involvement. TG, I get, but something isn’t gelling for me here with Naomi. There is likely a lot I don’t know about her or involvement that is being kept confidential that could shape my opinion on the matter, but from an outside perspective, I think perhaps she was another pawn he could manipulate and pin stuff on.

IMO, he had to have seen Megan more than once and with enough time to have been able to form an opinion of her character in order to have decided she was a target. Where did they meet to carpool? Did Megan ever meet the kids or stick around to play with them for a few minutes before leaving to or from? With as sweet as she’s been described, I see this as a distinct possibility if the occasion arose. I just don’t buy that he didn’t know her. I honestly can not get away from that feeling.

With the time she was laying in the field to the 911 phone call, I thought the caller must be involved and got scared by a passing car or the possibility that they’d been seen in the vicinity and tried to form an alibi. Those are the actions of fear, IMO. The two sets of tires throws me a bit. Was another person (or persons) there feeding him things to say?

I won’t say what I think about the gun.

I see DJ as a puppeteer. Granted, these other two that have been mentioned are culpable adults, but IMO the strings were being pulled by someone who knew the “power” it would take to move them.

You hit on some very good points, but I want to point out that Donnie is no puppetteer. That is strictly beneath him. Donnie is involved in other “crap” and that will come out, but this is his baliwick. He is an intense control freak, and there is no way that this would ever have his calling card, and be left to chance.

Although, admittedly, it did in the “dump” phase. It is incongruent to the known theory, and that tells me that the Mrs. needs to weigh in. She is the blank filler.

The question you raise about all being related to one another is exactly what the Mormans believe. They have dedicated a lot of resources to making that connection. In Salt Lake City, there is a building on the next block East of the Temple that has the total basement area dedicated to this effort. Information from Tennessee is quite good for some families. However, they seem to lack records on many from Virginia and North Carolina. A lot of young morman women donate their time to this effort.

So The Tullahoma News just reported that the judge has lowered DJ’s bond on the gun charges to $100k. Really? We need a convicted felon with prior sexual assult charges and access to weapons on the streets again. I would hate to be the idiot who actually posted bond for this freak and let him loose again….

  41. concernedcitizen says:

His bond was lowered. “Someone” is “bank” rolling his defense. Same someone could easily bond him out. I hope and pray that “someone” is smarter than to risk his reputation on giving this animal the chance to run like he has done in the past. OR that the DA gets off his damn ass and files some freaking murder charges!

  42. What about Naomi, will she be charged for accessory? Seems she organized the whole thing she maybe the sick one here. Where is a pic of her so we know to also stay away from her and she’s a nurse I don’t want to recieve her care.

  43. And in the courtroom he’s on camera saying “I didn’t do it,” who is he saying that to his wife or Meg’s family??

  44. Christian says:

Marci, I think perhaps she was saying that…okay, let’s be hypothetical here because I have absolutely no proof of what I’m about to say…If this were not a one time thing, and he had lured women before, he would want to be in complete control of the situation and not bring anyone else into the equation so that there was no chance of anything going awry for him. In this case, others are apparently involved and it got messy, which would be out of the ordinary. Makes me wonder if he didn’t plan on anyone else knowing. (I understand the lure blows holes in that theory, but I’m going to keep my mouth shut. I’m not trying to give anyone a chance at defense by saying what I think about that, but it makes no sense to me at all.)

Kelly, I am keeping you close in my heart. Keep watching Megan’s star.

  46. A Texas Grandfather says:

The judge needs to hear from the locals loud and clear regarding the reduced bail. He needs to be told that if this is not corrected, the people will take steps to have him removed from the bench.

This is a lawyer deal made to help DJ get out of jail. It is a far different thing to have bail at 100K with cash reduced to 10k rather than what he was facing.

As I understand it, it is a “bail standards issue”. Although you are correct that that amount is significantly easier to “acquire”, I am told that every bond agency in Coffee County has been contacted and every one has turned him down.

Can you imagine putting up a portion of your business for this guy- who has faked suicide, fled from charges twice, escaped from jail, has numerous alias’s if facing a certain murder indictment, and wait for it… this just in, a federal indictment through the ATF.

He is the poster child for flight risk and threat to public safety.
