Jodi Arias Trial: In Her Own Words.. How I Killed Travis Alexander With HIS Gun and HIS Knife
Phoenix, Arizona- In today’s highly anticipated morning testimony, Jodi Arias finally “gets there”.
After weeks of what can only be described as the dog ate my defense testimony led by Kirk Nurmi, Jodi Arias explains the events leading up to and during the murder of Travis Alexander.
Arias describes an irate and menacing Travis who bounds from the shower, causing her to drop his new camera and pouncing on her, knocking her to the wet tile floor.
“ A five year old can hold a camera better than you.” Arias stated Alexander screamed at her among other threatening expletives while she struggled to break free.
She then ran to the master bedroom closet and apparently using the Spiderman techniques she absorbed via osmosis from the alleged Valentines gift, retrieved a gun she claimed Travis owned over two feet out of her reach while he was sprinting behind her.
She pointed the gun at him, did not realize it went off and then Travis, still coming at her, stumbles to his knees on the now bloody tile beneath him. ( Editors Note: As I have always said, I believe the order of this injury is true and is important to the charges against her)
Enter gratuitous memory gap.
“I have no memory of stabbing him.” – Jodi Arias
Although Arias admits to having flash backs, she states she cannot remember any other details with the exception of her crouched in the bathroom covered in blood and drops a knife she believes was upstairs used by Travis to cut ropes he used to tie her up to the bed.
She did however, have the presence of mind to grab the ropes, the gun, apparently removes and loses her shoes and has no idea what happened to the knife she used to stab Alexander 29 times and slit his neck from ear to ear.
Next memory she is driving in the desert with the gun she alleges was Travis’s when she pitches it out the window at a random location, then puts the ropes in a dumpster behind a gas station and washes blood off her hands.
Pause for Arias innocuous driving babble and road scenery.
“Why didn’t you call 911 and tell them what happened?” Kirk Nurmi asks his sniffling but tearless client.
” …He attacked you, why did you feel You messed up pretty badly?”
“This time it was different, he had done it before and nothing happened, it was heightened.” Responded Arias.
While approaching a check point in Utah, she feels like she will be apprehended there.
Arias decided to do a “whole bunch of things” to cover up she was ever there.
So .. “I called his phone to leave a voice mail”. For nearly 16 minutes she says she tried numerous times to leave a cheery voice mail to ask as if she was not present in Alexander’s home.
“I just thought they would be listening to his voice mail, so I just thought it would throw the scent off for a while.”
– Jodi Arias
Yes, she actually said that on the stand. Defense Attorney Kirk Nurmi was observed writing a note to co-counsel Jennifer Wilmott to send an assistant out to Sam’s for an industrial size supply of Tums.
I made that part up. Testimony continues following jury lunch break.

Why would she bother to put him back in the shower?
The place was a bloody mess – what purpose did that serve?
I think that she put him in the shower so that she could try and wash off any evidence of (herself) having been there.
I have seen where the pictures have been put in order on another site. I sure hope the jury will see this collage with all times stamped.
Yes ma’am.
I have a dedicated resource on another case only for this afternoon so I am going to be running behind, will do my best.

I do not believe JA was abused.
I do not believe her life was at risk.
I do believe she’s a pathological liar.
I do believe she acted with malice and premeditation.
I hope the jury will charge her with a sentence commensurate with the crimes she willingly committed.
This is an image of a typical .25 cal pistol – very small with short barrel. JA testified she remembered the gun having a long barrel. Was her GF’s gun an antique perhaps?

Well the lack of objection by Martinez is very comforting to me so far. Gingers remained crossed.

You know- this whole testimony bugs me to death. There is no evidence to support any of what she said. When was that pic posted on myspace?
–
Me too Eloise and I also would like more info on the whys and what fors of that shaving pic shoot…
You:
I admit when JM was going thru that testimony with her it did take me those several playbacks to hear what he wanted to express bc it did seem like she may have been referencing a previous occasion,
I got that this shaving pic shoot she was referencing was from before but I think she just reverted back to the before because it was easy to do and less evil.. we KNOW he shaved before that shower- not just because of the NO STUBBLE but because of the bloody toilet paper in the waste basket, remember? as if from dabbing at knicks.. not huge wounds…
You:
but still,They should show documentation not her babbling lies.
TOTALLY AGREE and just because she referenced before shaving pics does not equate to her not telling the truth THAT time regarding having to coax travis in the shower or for each pose…she often reverts back to the past for her answers and then skips forward to present and sometimes speaks in generalities which could be construed as both…ITS MADDENING
You:
Additionally, to come back and say that last shower photo is unshaven is a crock- he is a full bearded guy- he will have a shadow 2 min after shaving- his almost decap photo- which I bet JM will re-show as proof shows no beard growth, that nasty woman.
EXCELLENT POINT Eloise if he was unshaved he would appear to have MORE beard growth after death- due to shrinkage of the skin…thats why some believed that fingernails and hair beards grew after death…they dont its just that their is a shrinkage of the skin etc… again excellent point
YOU:
Also, if anyone can help clarify for me- yesterday- all that testimony regarding the boring journal pages- this was about the mysterious pages that had been missing and suddenly reappeared for redirect? Is this what we are to be believing?
This baffled me also -she went on and on of Travis making her rip out pages or ripping them out himself…just to nicely give them back to her uncrumpled…not to mention why tear them out if you believe in the “Law of attraction” then wouldnt holding onto them for later STILL be holding on to the NEGATIVITY she claims to want to disenvow?
You:
And this is the sudden bad comments she now is making towards Travis that she has never made before? This is so goofy and I am not sure this is accurate- can anyone clarify?
I cant understand or clarify it Eloise, but I am right there with you- and that whole malarkey about recording it for prosperity as she was such a devote Mormon- please
She had negative stuff in there and “naughty” stuff too she wanted to record that for prosperity?
and all the new stories like that car hitting story she was in a fog and hunkered down – arrgg wBS-
that isnt BS and that isnt “hitting” her car- that is typical high traffic California driving NOTHING more.
and the spitting on the face stuff she claimed her father did to her- she is gonna claim this as a trigger-
well she didnt fly off the handle in that video of Travis you mentioned he sprayed her while talking..and she wiped her face and all was well…
That vid from Dr Drew is SOO sad and it is she who is the commanding figure in that clip she moves and grabs his hand and “adjusts” him
and it is she who seems not to want let go of his hand while he is talking-
I think she used Travis’ near death experience fear against him this is why she chose a gun – as this robbery and holdup scared Travis and it impacted him and she made him relive it
How cruel can you be?
as you said what a nasty woman
AJMO
Peace
I am going to agree with GeorgiaDad about the real thrust of Jodi’s testimony. She wants the jury to see how weird and foolish the statements are to help them decide that she is a mental case.
All we know about the gun is that it was .25 cal and these are usually an automatic type. These little guns can be hidden very easily. If the one stolen from the grandfather did have a holster, it would probably be one that could be strapped around the ankle and concealed by a trouser leg. Many people who carry concealed will have a back-up gun of smaller caliber and size.
The little 2″ & 2 1/2″ barrels of the original Browning design result in a gun that is just over 4″ long and 4″ high. Some of the newer designs are larger, but not by much. From the knuckle of my index finger to the tip of the flesh is 4″ to give a reference for size.
Most of the time, these little guns are of “tip up” design so the chamber can be loaded without the need to rack the top shroud to load. This means that the first bullet can be fired quickly and the auto action will take care of the rest. The problem with very small guns of the auto design is the small parts size and tight clearances between parts. They are easily fouled or jammed so that additional rounds cannot be loaded from the magazine.
Jodi would need time to examine the gun for the location of the safety so the gun could be fired. In a flight to get away from Travis she would not have time. This tells me the whole gun story is false. The gun was one she brought with her and was somewhat familiar with its operation.
There is no evidence of the knife that was used and the autopsy report just gives the sizes of the wounds and their depth. To my knowledge, there has been no statements regarding the type of knife used in the crime. Metal is porous, some more than others. Unless a knife is carefully cleaned, there could be some residue on the blade near the handle or on the handle itself. It would take a very powerful microscope to find any material and identify it.
The redirect by Nurmi has exposed some additional details of memory by Jodi. This proves to me that she does remember the whole scene, but chooses to claim otherwise.
Give Nurmi a break about his appearance. There are some people that just cannot make themselves look good in clothing. He belongs in that group.
I don’t think the found journal pages are going to help Jodi. In fact, they only add to the concept of deceit. They need to check the original journal to see if the tear lines match.
LOL LOL. Kirk Nurmi was actually following the golden tie rule. It needs to cover the belt buckle. If Mr. Blink is having a tie-tying event, I can count 3 cuss words and a sigh before he will yell for help. Just a quick reminder, Kirk tried to withdraw from this case, he was denied.

A much needed LOL! Thank you, friendy.
It appears the jury is questioning her story, as the 100+ questions are being asked by her honour. Her verbiage is utterly annoying. Plain english would do just fine. She must believe her answers are above the comprehension of the jury. *smh*
Now, Nurmi has my sympathies. Perhaps there were a few defense lawyers who were approached and didn’t want this case, either. Kinda comes across like this was shoved onto him.
JMHO.
LOL Blink, it must be that Kirk Nurmi’s wife or the judge is telling him what he should wear. But it’s important to show respect for the court in how you dress. And I think he’s dressed appropriately and that’s what matters.
Does anyone know why the first lawyer ended up off the case?
At least they are whipping through these questions at a quicker pace.

Hi Mom3.0!
I apologize if this has been addressed for you, already. One of Dr. Drew’s ‘expert lawyers’ *ahem*, stated JM does get another crack at the mouth piece. I can’t remember the dude’s name, but he went on to say that this is the PERFECT time for him to take these 100 questions from the jury AND align his approach from the jury’s view point. He also expressed a need for JM to keep it non random (I can’t think of a better word). In other words, not to be all over the place.
I like JM being all over the place. Not sure if it’s working, but it inhibits Jodi’s ability to speculate his line of questions. However, it certainly hasn’t impaired her ability to lie on the spot, which contradicts my reasons for liking his approach. Heck, I take it back. He needs to keep the jury focused and involved. They need to hear ‘the story’, much like Jeff Ashton and Linda Drane Burdick’s approach. (sorry, I went there I still believe they laid it out as best as they could, with what they had. I don’t believe they could have done anything different. It seems the verdict was written in the stars).
Thank you for all you’re doing, Mom! I can’t believe it’s been 5 years we’ve been exchanging sentiments and views @ BOC. You are a classic advocate and spirt, dear heart. It’s been an honour. xo
JMHO and thinking out loud, again.

Bless your heart, sweetie pie! The ‘shut up’ thing, is NOT in our house hold vocab. We don’t use it. It’s not allowed, respected or tolerated. It was a hypocritical statement, on my part. There are no excuses except that, that was exactly how I was feeling. Since I have a tendency to ‘lose self control’ at times, I’ve had to limit my viewing of this trial. It’s terribly validating to read @ BOC and see my kindred spirits expressing similar feelings as me. I also feel I’m getting the ‘truth’ from these great posts. I want to mention names, but I’d have to name all. Everyone has been laying it down and keeping it real. March on, wayward advocates! xo xo xo
Thank you all for taking the time to comment and share your views, opinions and feelings. It’s precious and greatly appreciated.
ATG – What are the odds that there is someone on the jury who knows guns like you do – enough to explain to the other jurors that her story is not believable and why? In my neck of the woods, so many guys and some women are very knowledgeable about guns and can refute her story right away. I’m hoping that is the case on this jury.
why are they asking about her relationship with her parents? what does that have to do with the murder?
These Juror’s questions are AWESOME. She is just burying herself.
I’m good with life w/out parole. At this rate, she is going to death row.
Definitely a good day for the STATE of ARIZONA.
much more palatable to view without the attorneys’ showboating,
but it does allow the witness to sell more snake oil.
The jurors have asked very specific questions but thus far I haven’t heard a juror address/question the 29 stab wounds.
Now we know why Nurni speaks so slowly… to give Arias time to shift between lies. Hon Stephens is firing off those jury questions and Jodi is doing mental acrobats to keep her stories straight. A few inconsistencies of note so far, however the biggest… and where she burned herself was the question why she didn’t leave phone messages or texts for Matt and Darryl when they didn’t answer. Correct me if I’m wrong, this was before she left Calif, yes? Arias answered because she didn’t want to tell Matt she was going to see Travis.
Ever heard someone try to stick to a script when answering questions the answers to which have not been rehearsed? JA’s attempts to answer the jurors’ questions are painful, and painfully telling.
So now she claims she did grab the shelf with her hands to get the gun….and refused to answer how many trips she took to Meza from CA alone….and did she use gas cans then??
I predict that she is going down like she has never gone down before
Help- I lost power at 3:30
if it was travis’ gun, he would know if it was loaded or not. If it was not loaded, like she says, then he would have went after her. If it was loaded, he would have been the one to load it, and he would have persuaded her to put the gun down and totally handled the situation differently. Not buying the gun was Travis’ and I don’t think that the jury is buying it either IMO.
@ Futureman says:

My sentiments exactly! She actually looked nervous and uncertain at some points. Some of her responses were ‘rushed’. Painfully telling….indeed!
Do my ears deceive me or did anyone else hear a freudian slip when arias responded to the juror’s question ‘ did you feel anger when you were stabbing Travis ?’ If i remember correctly, she begins her response with ‘ i don’t remember feeling FEAR…’ Before she could finish, Martinez had an objection.
Did anyone else hear this? It was shortly after the return from the afternoon recess today.
I gotta add….the jury’s questions are impressive. They’re asking what we’ve been asking, and we have access to outside resources! I’m not getting my hopes up, but at least we know they’ve been paying attention to consistency and details regarding Jodi’s testimony.
Encouraging.
“Did you ever seek help for your mental problem?” LOL I have a lil more faith in these jurors now. LOL
Sue
I can only guess about the knowledge the jurors may have regarding guns. Phoenix is the largest city in Arizona and encompasses several other towns in its metropolitan area. However, Maricopa county is huge, almost the size of New Jersey, in land area. There are large rural areas surrounding the city. If the jury pool is made up of county residents and not just city residents there could be several who can explain the gun issue.
The tie story is cute Blink. I did part time work in retail beginning at age fifteen. That meant a tie. Unless I was in the field working on a project, a tie was required every day during my office time. Practice makes perfect and if one does not do it often a tie is difficult to make look good. A balanced Windsor knot looks sharp when tied. Mr. B is lucky to have you to help.
I only heard a few of the jury questions. Seems like they didn’t understand why she never reported abuse. Why she didn’t stop sleeping with him after the pedophile claim. So they are skeptical and her responses were lame. I especially liked one question about why she called police on a former boyfriend but not on Travis. She rambled about that and I felt it was a dishonest answer. She ended by saying Travis would be sweet and make up for it later…bleh!
Another juror’s question was direct…why did she think he was going to kill her this time and not when he kicked her or broke her finger. I dont believe the body slam thing. Not over a fumbled camera. The reaction is too over the edge for that. Maybe in a guy who has history of abuse and others are aware of it…but that is not evident in this case.
I’m not sure though, by their questions, that they are picking up on crucial evidence or forensics but those might not be revealed through their questions to her.
How does everyone else feel about the jury questions?
Not to bring up last disaster, but it would have
Interesting to here questions in that case. Actually all
States should implement. You would at least know
By having questions that they are listening and taking
There job seriously.
I wonder if it would behoove JM to call a battered woman to testify on rebuttal. I know everyone’s situation is unique, but I’ve talked to one who remembers every detail of abuse, including a violent struggle with a weapon. Granted no one died.
If i were a juror, one of my questions to arias would be: If, while cleaning Travis house, you noticed he stored a gun in the corner of the top shelf of his closet, did you also notice where he stored the ammunition for the gun?
I think I caught at least 10 inconsistencies in her answers to the juror questions today based on previous answers she gave on direct and cross.
Based on the detail of their questions I am guessing they caught them too!!
It is very interesting to see her babble incessantly to avoid actually answering the questions.
I really like the idea of the jury being able to ask questions…much harder for her to script a lie in response or to quickly recall previous answers to remain consistent. ..I don’t think this is helping her at all.
Can you imagine how hard a person would need to be banging their head on a solid doorframe well inside the bedroom to be heard all the way down carpeted stairs and maybe even further away depending upon where Jodi was supposedly standing when she claims to have heard this?
I challenge any of you to bang your head on a door frame even one room over from another person and see if the person in the next room can hear it. Kidding of course, I don’t really want any of you to do it but I wonder if a test run were done in Travis’ home what the results would be.
To use your skull against a solid piece of wood (not sheetrock) like a hammer would take a lot of of force to carry noice throughout a house without doing serious damage to the skull, IMO.
Wow Blink, did you have a power outage? I hope you’re okay in this storm. I’ll say a prayer for you.
@Joan, not so far , thank you
Pale Rider
Your link to the Ammoland site and the 25 cal. pistols shows a colt from 1908. The original Browning design was for Winchester in 1902. Colt bought a license to build a similar gun. If one takes the link found above the photo group it will take you to a set of reviews for various 25 cal. pistols in production at the present time.
I really doubt that Jodi’s grandfather would have anything as old as the 1908 model unless he was a collector. None of the designs in the reviews are tip-up barrels and there are a lot of those that have been produced.
The thing about these little pistols is it takes practice to be able to shoot into a target with a reasonable shot pattern. Some people, and a lot of them are women, can point something in their hand or a finger and be accurate at what they want to point. A way to check yourself is to acquire one of the laser pointer devices used to point to things on a presentation screen and place it under your index finger. Turn it on and just swing your hand up trying to point to a nearby object. With a little practice you can get to be reasonably accurate. This is how the old time cowboys learned to shoot when a quick shot was needed. Not with a laser of course, but by dry practice (no shot) and then with ammunition.
FYI y’all
a Victoria Washington, public defender, applied to the court on Dec 16th to be recused from representing Jodi Arias. This was granted. Blink, you mentiond that Nurmi also applied to the court to be recused, but i couldn’t find any documents. It would be interesting to read because they have to give a reason why they should be allowed to cease representing. We could see what his problem was with repping Arias. It appears from docs that Washiongton had a conflict of interest. I dont understand legalese enough to figure out the details but that is what I gathered.
In the meantime, I dont think Arias did so well with the jury’s questions. I am not thrilled that it is a media feeding frenzy of condemnation, but I understand what sells on TV.
It is , in the end, just a tragedy. makes one want to be sure to teach their children what love is, and is not, so they will never confuse the two…. and chose the wrong way for their heart.
Amy’s Sister
That whole story is just more Jodi bs. She doesn’t know the difference between a door frame and a door. The doors in that house appeared to be fiberglass as so many are today. They act like a drum when hit. The real door frame is against a set of wood wedges and nailed to the rough frame for the doorway. The sound from that would be very dead. Maybe heard a distance of five feet.
You could bang your head against a fiberglass door in the middle for quite a while without doing damage to either. The fiberglass is flexible and will rebound just like the head of a base drum.
I hope everyone in the path of the snowstorm will be safe. We had that storm ten days ago without moisture, just wind at gale force for almost 24 hours.
The question was posed regarding Nurmi, and how he got this awful case. I didnt know he tried to get off of it, but I dont blame him for trying. I couldnt possibly tell you now, where I read this info., but originally, Jodi intended to represent herself. I remember being somewhat shocked at the arrogance of this monster, but that was then, and after all we have been seeing it doesnt surprise me anymore.
I agree with y’all that seeing her try to answer the jurors questions today was a BIG FAT JOKE ON HER. I too hope the jury will make their determination based on everything they have seen and heard. God bless Travis’s family. How horrible for them to sit there day after day and look at that lying witch.
Quick summation:
Couple PD’s withdrew when she came up with the ninja story. Nurmi was next in line PD. Arias motioned to represent herself in order to introduce the infamous child porn letters ( I personally believe her perception was that she would have a better chance of getting them in pro se). They were suppressed by order, she motions to put Nurmi back on.
In the meantime, Nurmi is leaving the PD office to go into private criminal defense practice so he motions for withdrawl based on that.
Judge says this trial has been delayed enough, tough darts, however, the state will pay you a comparable rate so that can no longer be your issue.
STATE PD office files to have Nurmi removed because they do not want a non-member non-employee of the PD office directing staff. Willmott gets assigned to liaze with the PD assets.

Good point, Iyla. I think the jury will have more questions tomorrow. I hope Juan Martinez shows those autopsy photos. I know he can’t say this part, when she said that if she killed Travis, she would beg for the death penalty, but I hope the jury grants her wish!
I about threw up in my mouth when she said she took the pics of the “Travis Alexander’s” t-shirt and the monogrammed underwear – after Travis’ murder – because they were “sentimental” to her!
She has testified that she does not remember any of it, my guess would be that those questions were objected to and sustained.
B
Oops, I was interrupted while writing my comment. It should read AND I hope the jury grants her wish!
re: above- public defender Victoria washington applied to be dropped as lawyer for Arias Dec 16, 2011/
Hi ATG. I totally agree. The prosecuter was very clear, if I recall correctly, and even pointed to the door frame in a photo and asked Jodi “is this where Travis was banging his head” and she answered in the affirmative. She specifically indicated he was hitting his head on the door jamb/frame.
You said: I don’t think the found journal pages are going to help Jodi. In fact, they only add to the concept of deceit. They need to check the original journal to see if the tear lines match.
I thought the same thing Texas Grandpa. If Juan Martinez shows during his closing that Jodi is still lying repeatedly, then succinctly outlines all the points that prove premeditation he may get his DP. It’s probably a 50/50 chance at this time but based on the jurists questions she is not fooling them.

“Did you ever seek help for your mental problem?” LOL I have a lil more faith in these jurors now. LOL
____
That was classic. So was her response, “I’m not sure what mental condition that refers to,” Arias said. I think she went on to say, “I don’t think I have a mental condition”.
No, people shoot and stab men they love everyday. Her mind’s not right. Would be sad if it wasn’t so evil, really. I bet the other guys in her life are thanking their lucky stars.
I had a daydream the other day that she was interviewing shrinks that were all in one office complex. As soon as she left their appointment they all jumped out the window for fear she would pick them. Dramatic, yes. I have never heard a person with that level of intellect have such a complete allergy to a straightforward answer to a straightforward question in my life.
I personally think this jury is struggling to see her as the monster who nearly decapitated this man after stabbing him 27 times whether one believes the gunshot was accidental or not. Concerns me.
B
In Dec 2007, Travis new grilfriend received an email from ” John Doe” just a couple of days after his tires were slashed when he was at her house.
The email was a warning to the new grild=friend that she was sinning etc and an admontion to stop seeing him.
The email contained the words ” whoredom” and ” unclean”, and other biblical type wording.
TODAY, when the jury asked a couple of questions about Arias knowledge of the Book of Mormon, Arias kind of fumbled around, said at one point ( almost verbatim)” well it has words like whoredom and unclean”…. as part of her answer about what she understood the book of Mormon to say regarding chastity
same words as in the John Doe email.
Yes, but I think that was her intent. I still maintain Jodi had nothing to do with the tire slashes and that it was an individual associated with an interest in Julie.
B
To me the defining moment in this case, if I were a juror, is the issue with the gun holster. It’s kind of like when OJ tried on the glove and it didn’t fit, in reverse. I can’t UNHEAR it.
There as far as I know, was no mention of the gun being in a holster when JM was questioning her. Then the other day when Nurmi did his follow up and asked her to point out where the gun was, she pointed to the shelf and continued to ramble about how the gun was in a holster. she thinks.
Today the jury asked something regarding the holster, and suddenly it was ” I’m not sure if it was in a holster or not. I know he told me he had bought one for it”
REALLY????!!! In your life or death moment you can’t remember (and this was before “the FOG”) if you had to take the extra second to fumble the gun out of the holster or not? You aren’t sure? Was it there when she tossed the gun? Was there a holster left at the crime scene?
I already thought she was 110% full of shit, but her waffling on this seals the deal for me. And JM totally caught that too, he even exclaimed “There was a holster?”! I hope this is the nail in her coffin.
Agreed totally. I wonder if the stolen .25 from the grands was in a holster. You already know it was. Hard to keep it straight.
If that gun was in a holster she had no way of knowing unless she was familiar to know if there was a round in the chamber ( I don’t know the model or I would discuss the safety on/off) and depending on the holster, it may have contained the ammo. Of course as I write this I know it was a lie anyway, but it does add time to her fuddling with it while Travis is bounding at her. I am so over this woman.
B
