Phoenix, Arizona- In today’s highly anticipated morning testimony,  Jodi Arias finally “gets there”.

After weeks of what can only be described as the dog ate my defense testimony led by Kirk Nurmi,  Jodi Arias explains the events leading up to and during the murder of Travis Alexander.

Arias describes an irate and menacing Travis who bounds from the shower, causing her to drop his new camera and pouncing on her, knocking her to the wet tile floor.

“ A five year old can hold a camera better than you.” Arias stated Alexander screamed at her among other threatening expletives while she struggled to break free.

She then ran to the master bedroom closet and apparently using the Spiderman techniques she absorbed via osmosis from the alleged Valentines gift,  retrieved a gun she claimed Travis owned over two feet out of her reach while he was sprinting behind her.

She pointed the gun at him, did not realize it went off and then Travis, still coming at her, stumbles to his knees on the now bloody tile beneath him.  ( Editors Note:  As I have always said,  I believe the order of this injury is true and is important to the charges against her)

Enter gratuitous memory gap.

“I have no memory of stabbing him.” – Jodi Arias

Although Arias admits to having flash backs,  she states she cannot remember any other details with the exception of her crouched in the bathroom covered in blood and drops a knife she believes was upstairs used by Travis to cut ropes he used to tie her up to the bed.

She did however, have the presence of mind to grab the ropes, the gun, apparently removes and loses her shoes and has no idea what happened to the knife she used to stab Alexander 29 times and slit his neck from ear to ear.

Next memory she is driving in the desert with the gun she alleges was Travis’s  when she pitches it out the window at a random location,  then puts the ropes in a dumpster behind a gas station and washes blood off her hands.

Pause for Arias innocuous driving babble and road scenery.

“Why didn’t you call 911 and tell them what happened?”  Kirk Nurmi asks his sniffling but tearless client.

” …He attacked you, why did you feel You messed up pretty badly?”

“This time it was different, he had done it before and nothing happened, it was heightened.” Responded Arias.

While approaching a check point in Utah,  she feels like she will be apprehended there.

Arias decided to do a “whole bunch of things” to cover up she was ever there.

So .. “I called his phone to leave a voice mail”.  For nearly 16 minutes she says she tried numerous times to leave a cheery voice mail  to ask as if she was not present in Alexander’s home.

“I just thought they would be listening to his voice mail, so I just thought it would throw the scent off for a while.”

– Jodi Arias

Yes, she actually said that on the stand.   Defense Attorney Kirk Nurmi was observed writing a note to co-counsel Jennifer Wilmott to send an assistant out to Sam’s for an industrial size supply of Tums.

I made that part up.  Testimony continues following jury lunch break.

    Additionally, just to put it out there, I did not believe that OJ not fitting the glove meant not guilty, But used it as an analogy because it was the “aha moment” in many people’s eyes. I think it sold my brother. I don’t believe my brother has experience with form fitting leather gloves. I’m just saying that for me, this holster thing has cemented my mind on guilt like never before.

    It was also nice that the jury asked if the dog barks when people enter the home or knock on the door, and she was all ‘oh yeah, it totally barks and goes crazy’.
    eeeeeehhhhhhhh. wrong answer.

    “Did you ever seek help for your mental problem?” LOL I have a lil more faith in these jurors now. LOL

    She looked like she was about to leap over and say you mean .. these mental problems? Yea, it ended on a rather positive note for the Pros.

  4. Karen says:

    Was there ever a mockup done of the trajectory of the bullet and what position Travis would have been in in relation to jody’s position to verify her “story”?

    no. To do so must include the travel path of the projectile post-entry and Travis was in moderate decomp phase making that impossible to support forensically. Had I been prosecuting this case, I would have tried it in prep and ran it past a mock trial (or Frye hearing) with colleagues.

    The brain was in advanced autolysis by this time. I DO think hiring a blood spatter expert would have successfully convinced the jury that Travis was shot at the sink area but that is a no win for either side. It would confirm that Jodi shot him first, and prove the felony murder charge and potentially support a self defense theory had the defense actually been well versed in forensic crime scene reconstruction.

    Without her on the stand, and with a different story, this was a defensible case, albeit incredible, jus saying.

  5. Jden says:

    So, he picked her up from a crouched position… 100 plus lbs straight up with enough force to then bodyslam her? How is that possible? He would have had to take a moment first to grab her arms, or underneath to secure the weight, in which she would have time to fight him off.
    Arias’ accounts are like cartoons.
    And, the whole bathroom to closet struggle with Travis apparently jogging in place patiently while she climbs up, finds the gun, removes it from the now defined holster, climbs back down without disturbing anything, runs out, checks for ammo, turns and positions herself and points the gun… well, didn’t she testify in direct that she stepped on the stool to climb up?
    Can I tell you how much I love when Martinez says “Well… ” before he contradicts her… and calls her m’am. lol

    Arias is loving the limelight. Bring on today’s list!
    PS if she doesn’t like being called a 12-yo school girl then what’s up with the hair and top yesterday? Really, Arias?

  6. NaNa says:

    Just read this:

    Juror Question
    Why didn’t you call Ryan and tell him you were going to Arizona?

    “I guess I didn’t want Ryan to know I still had an interest in Travis,” Arias said.

    When she was on the stand, during her testimony, and during cross, she said her plan was to go see Ryan. She got a call from Travis and diverted her trip to Arizona and that’s why she had to tell Ryan she was late getting there. But of course, he phone was shut off so how is it that she called Travis to tell him she was on her way there? Answer: Because she didn’t tell him.

    Every question that she couldnt answer without incriminating herself more was “I dont remember what happened/I have no memory of those events”. (convenient)

    Her answer to “why did you take pictures of Alexanders bloody body after you stabbed him?” “Im not sure why I would have done that” Why didnt she just respond “Im not sure why I did that?” Because she’s distancing herself from the incident as if she didn’t do it (past tense and impersonal).

    Your link to the Ammoland site and the 25 cal. pistols shows a colt from 1908. The original Browning design was for Winchester in 1902. Colt bought a license to build a similar gun. If one takes the link found above the photo group it will take you to a set of reviews for various 25 cal. pistols in production at the present time.

    Thanks, ATG! I didn’t even realize it was an old gun, and you’re right, I doubt her GF had one that old. I went back and looked at lots of images and read up on tip-up designs. Very interesting!

    Taurus makes one, and I admit I’d enjoy learning to shoot that way. Some of the older ones are very ornate and I can see their appeal to collectors. I sure wish we knew about the ballistics report.

    I think I caught at least 10 inconsistencies in her answers to the juror questions today based on previous answers she gave on direct and cross.

    ~~~~~~~~~~
    I’m listening to the questions in full today, and I’ve caught 2 so far.
    1. She doesn’t remember now if the gun was in the holster.
    2. She stated her finger was injured on June 22, not Jan 22.
  9. pale rider says:
    AND I had no idea she went on a camping trip with only men!!!
  10. Jden says:
    Pale Rider, a camping trip… with a gun… with only men whose names, not one can be remembered. I guess camping scrambles her brain.
  11. susie myers says:
    I would like the jury to ask her where did she get the money to purchase the 9mm? Could it be she took all Travis’s cash. And why go on a trip you cant afford in the first place What is so pressing that you have to take a trip when you cant afford it, on top of that rent a car and buy starbucks, but you have no money and somehow focused on cheap gas while drinking a $5 strawberry frap.
    I think I also heard a slip that was not capitalized on as well unless it is being saved for the rebuttal. There is some discrepancy as to whether Jodi had her infinity still. I would have been all over that if that is what she drove to Redding and still rented a car.
    B
  12. Jack says:
    I read on HLN that the prosecution may call a rebuttal witness – a friend of Travis’ to say that Travis didn’t own a gun. I realize some people get guns illegally, but haven’t they checked records to see if a gun was registered to Travis? Also, I can’t believe the defense hasn’t put on an expert to say Jodi’s “memory loss” during and after the event is perfectly normal and expected in that situation.
    Travis did not have a gun registered to him of any kind. They will, in the rebuttal case. Traumatic amnesia, PTSD, all kinds of psyche malarky coming our way, no worries.
    B
  13. Jack says:
    I’m not saying her memory loss IS perfectly normal and expected, but as we all know – they can find experts to say anything.
  14. susie myers says:
    I could be wrong but I thought someone drove her to the budget rental in Redding.
    I would also like to know exactly what was stolen from grandpaws house… I think the remote control that she says she had to bring to darrel brewer was for a piece of equipment she took from grandpaws home that was reported stolen. I cant remember why was that brought up in direct. Maybe darrel purchased it from her????? I think he lied for her.
    And any woman who is dating someone, then breaks up, and then agrees to clean his home for cash after claims of abuse just shows me she was obsessed with him and in any way she could, she was going to be in his life no matter if dating or not. It is clear she was totally obsessed with him and he could not rid of her. That man never laid a mean finger on her.
    She baited him in that last sex call. It is obvious that she brings up past happenings to get him to relive it. She was going to use that against him one day in some way. When she speaks like a valley girl and asked him “What’s a cream pie”, right there she tries to act all innocent. This woman in no way is innocent when it comes to sex and murder.
  15. pale rider says:
    These are my thoughts on what happened June 4. I think JA arrived in Mesa without giving Travis a heads up, or, at the most, a very short one. Are there phone records showing times she talked with him prior to her arrival?
    Looking at the last photo of him in the shower, his face only, I see confusion, anger, alarm, fear. I’m wondering if she had the gun pointed at him then.
    Next he’s sitting in the shower, but no blood. This pic has always bothered me. I think he’s been shot, and while not unconscious, dazed. I also think he asked her to get help. Another partial truth.
    At some point, he manages to get up and out of the shower. I think he more likely stumbled, instead of lunging. I think JA was dressed in a “ninja” outfit, all black. Black wouldn’t show blood.
    I believe she chased HIM down the hallway, stabbing him in the back. He collapses at the end of the hall, and this is where she finished killing him. I see her grabbing his hair from behind, pulling his head back and slitting his throat.
    Then she rolled him over, straddled him and stabbed him in the chest.
    What precipitated this vicious attack, imo, was after SHE convinced him to have sex, he told her she had to leave because he had lots of things to do to get ready for his trip to Cancun. He totally dissed her.
    She was hoping he would take her back – this was his last chance.
    She pretends to leave, sneaks back in while he’s in the shower, and captures him in his praying shots.
    He felt guilty and was disgusted with himself for allowing her to suck him in. He had basically cheated on Mimi, and he was angry at his lack of control.
    The praying was asking for forgiveness and absolution. Doing it in the shower is in itself somewhat symbolic, as in washing away the sin.
    Do you know where she parked her rental car? I’m pretty sure not in his driveway.
    She may really have wondered if she shot him because of a lack of blood. She’s so sure about that casing not landing in the blood. This part is true.
    She talks about going downstairs to get something to eat after sex, but I believe it was to get a knife, on her supposed way “out” the door.
    I’m sure she remembers every detail of that day, vividly, and relives the murder frequently in her mind. She has an almost lascivious look on her face when she’s retelling her “stories”. She’s very damaged goods.
    I am fine with posting your personal thoughts on the chronology of events in the murder
    B
  16. pale rider says:
    Jden, LOL, scrambled camping brain! IKR, who does these things?????
  17. pale rider says:
    I wonder if the steamy photos on June 4 were going to end up either being posted somewhere or in Mimi’s hands as retaliation.
  18. pale rider says:
    I’m hogging the board again, sorry! But no way do I believe Travis asked her, guilted her, into making that side-trek to Mesa!
    Can phone records prove/disprove her claim?
  19. Pam says:
    Well I think the jury came up with some good questions for her. I originally thought that the gun shot came after the stabbings, but now am on the fence about it. In my own head I thought that the casing on top of the blood convinced me that the shot came after. But…in reading some of the posts and in giving it more thought, I now think that it could have landed on top of the blood if it richocheted during a struggle. I do still think that she could have taken him over without shooting him first because he was in a very vulnerable position being naked and in the shower when the attack first started. I do fail to see how it really matters what came first the stabbing or the shooting. This was a brutal killing either way. Also someone had mentioned how she was able to move him back to the shower and to me given that tile is slippery when wet and her adrenalin would have made moving him quite easy. If she is so suicidal and even said she should get the death penalty if she did this than why fight so hard to save her life. Hard to even say the words that someone should die but..I do think about the brutallity she inflicted on him and how peachful her own death would be by letha injection. She wants to live and she wants to have a good reputation and not be seen as a cold blooded killer. There was no abuse and there was not self defense. My mother used a wooden spoon on me when I was a child and I too have loved a man that did not love me back. He is still alive as far as I know. Her stories are all bs. She is undermining women that have truly been abused. Yes she did slip and say that she had no fear. Caught that. An abused woman would have fear not junt in the moment but throughout the relationship. All of the pics of the two of them she is smiling and not looking as if she is with a man that abuses her. She is not a very good actress but she is a great liar. Someone that is really being abused does not go back after freeing themselves from the abuser not to mention driving all that way to be with him. I do believe this was premeditated. No she did not kill him right when she got there, as her attorney pointed out. IMO it is because she was giving him one last chance to win him over and when she realized that did not work she carried out her plan. Him going to cancun with someone else and not winning him over with her sexcapades is what made her snap.
  20. Ode says:
    She said that “physical things she remembers” when she is in this fog. Martinez needs to ask her why she does not remember the physical action of stabbing someone 29 times and slitting Travis’ throat.
    He needs an expert to provide an analysis of the state of mind, position, level of force, and timing for these injuries, imo.
    Good luck to the defense after that. “FUBAR” state is not a criminal defense.
    Ok, I have crossed the line with this woman. She does remember after coming to, after being choked unconscious by Travis, wondering where Napoleon, the dog, was. Did she expect him to come with a small keg of Brandy tied around his neck to rescue her? She is making me crazy.
    Well she had the presence of mind to put the dog gate up so she knew where he was not.
  24. A Texas Grandfather says:
    I am really positive about the Arizona procedure of allowing questions by the jury. This keeps them in the loop of being alert to things in testimony that do not make sense. I think this is a winner for justice.
    Maybe some other states will see the good that this does and adopt similar procedures.
    Jodi has led a life of deceit beginning as an early teen. She does not see herself as the world sees her. This whole case is brought about because of her need to control Travis. She made plans to hide her activities related to the trip so that if she were successful in winning him back, she would not have to implement plan B which IMO was to kill him so that no other woman could have him.
    I like Blink’s “Max Senate” comedy routine of all the shrinks jumping out the windows to keep from having to deal with this woman. This is typical of sociopaths behavior where no one, not even the professionals, are willing to deal with it.
    The court gets to see a lot of crazy behavior from defendants, but this one will be used to teach others about crazy.
    Pale Rider
    If you are planning to learn to shoot a handgun, my recommendation is to purchase something other than a .25 cal. These little pistols have barrels that are very short and the weapon is small making them hard to handle.
    A better choice is to buy a revolver chambered for .22LR. The 22LR is much more available (excluding the ammo shortage of the present time) and less expensive to purchase. Some of the newer revolver designs have interchangeable parts that allow them to shoot the newer magnum shells as well as the std. 22LR. A magnum shell for any caliber is the same diameter, but is longer to contain more powder so as to propel the bullet at a greater velocity. The whole gun is made stronger to withstand the pressures created by the magnum shells.
    Most of the competition shooters use 22LR pistols or revolvers for matches. There are competitions where larger caliber handguns are used, but those are for experienced shooters.
    To me all Jodi Arias’supposed “fog” is highlighting is the fact that she can BRUTALLY kill another human being over nothing more than having been yelled at- thats not self defense..She has proven that she could flip out black out and kill anyone for almost anything then clean up and go on about her life “appearing normal” – and thats if the jurors believe her bs-fog
    She is dangerous and she said she was trying to escape the consequences…That part is the one thing that rings true …
    that fog, on the other hand, is just a result of her blowing smoke and nothing more.
    okay, just to use up the part of my imagination that has not been overtaken by trying to make sense out of Arias unreasonable explanations…
    The defense is saying that BECAUSE she didn’t kill him immediately upon arrival at his house, that proves there was no premeditation.
    Arias repeatedly says that she particpated in sex acts with him in order to fullfill HIS needs. At times during their relationship, she said she had sex with him to help him, deal with anger, issues, whatever BECAUSE having sex with him resulted in him being nicer to her, less angry, blah blah blah.
    She ADMITS that her sexual relationship was based on a type of control on her part- that by having sex she was able to control the way he treated her. That is her explanation for why she participated in acts that she really didnt want to- her words. She repeatedly says that she did all these things just to make HIM happy get the result of him paying more attention to her, being nicer etc. etc.
    I do NOT see the conflict in her having sex with him as PART of her premeditation for killing him.
    WHAT ABOUT if her plan was more than just killing him, What about if her plan all along was to to have sex and then kill him. What about if she came into that house with the intention of killing him, and having sex was just the first step of her murder scheme. What about if it was on her mind the entire time, and she was just figuring out the best opportunity to get him in a position that would enable her to clean up, lock the bedroom door behind her and disappear.
    She has shown she is capable of construing vast and complicated scenarios that consistantly hinged on having sex with him.I think the sex was just a prelude to murder, not to be put forth as evidence that she had no intention of killing him JUST because she had sex. She has al;ready testified that she had sex with him for reasons other then her own pleasure. Taking the defenses position that she didnt enjoy the sex and only did it to placate him, isn’t it logical to assume she could have sex with him in order to get enough control to then excecute her plan.?
    Foxnews has written that in their opinion, Defense isnt doing well and the jury doesnt believe Jodi. Here is an article from today:
    “Why were you afraid of the consequences if you killed Travis in self-defense?” asked one juror in a question read aloud by the judge.
    “Would you decide to tell the truth if you never got arrested?” another juror asked.
    Experts say the sheer number of juror questions and their context don’t bode well for the defense.
    Phoenix criminal defense attorney Julio Laboy is convinced the jury isn’t sold.
    “I think the message here is, `I think you’re lying and I want to have you answer my questions directly,”‘ Laboy said.
    “They’re asking very specific questions, like when do you lie and when do you tell the truth,” he added. “Obviously, at least one juror doesn’t believe a word she is saying.”
