So sad – RIP sweet Hannah.
Amazing effort by Charlottesville Police, Chief Longo and all volunteers who were relentless in searching for Hannah.
Amazing effort by FBI and VA state police.
You were exactly right Blink- she was nearby.
Hopefully LJM will talk at some point and let other families know where their loved ones are located.
Praise God he is locked up and can’t destroy any more innocent lives.
Bittersweet day because now the case will be locked up, LJM will be nailed.
I hope this case raises public awareness and leads to changes in laws so that we can better protect our precious girls.

My local news 12 station in Richmond is saying that the remains have not been identified and are being sent here to Chief Medical Office for positive ID. If not Hannah, though, someones loved one has been found.

  7. GraceintheHills says:

My understanding is that the remains have not yet been positively identified as Hannah’s, but LE has notified Hannah’s parents that female remains were found.

I can’t begin to imagine what pain they must be in. There are no words.

I hope uva takes a look at its alcohol policies
and at the care & supervision in loco parentis owed
all hefty tuition paying students for business & brand reasons
if no other. Ie, a 3 digit number to text for a U driver
if inebriated & lost or uncomfortable for teansport, no Qs asked.
Not unique to this U. But the U safeguards are better re shooters than
rapists & murderers on & nearby campus.

Thank GOD they found her. Now they can take care of their precious daughter. I knew he would have disposed of Hannah in the general area, but never did I think it would be so close to Morgan.

Old Lynchburg Road is literally across the highway from Anchorage Farms. It’s almost as if he wanted to get caught. (I tried to paste the map on here, but doesn’t work. Boo.)

Thank you to the deputies who came from Chesterfield County to help search and who found Hannah. Even though an official ID has not been made, I think from the news conference, it is certain that the search is over. So, so sad, but I think we all expected this news sooner or later. Even though their hearts are broken, at least Hannah’s parents no longer have to go to bed fearing the news that could come any minute. They have now heard the worse and will be able to start grieving.

Ever since the forensic link to Morgan was announced, I’ve been afraid the evidence won’t be enough to bring charges in her death. Hopefully, locating Hannah so much quicker will result in more evidence being found and the result will be justice for all victims harmed by this predator.

I think Chief Longo was beginning to get some criticism about the continuation of the search without results. That relentlessness to bring Hannah home to her family has now paid off even though I know he wanted a different outcome, as we all did. I am very glad Charlottesville has a chief of police who is passionate about his job and isn’t ashamed to show emotion.

Blink~ I have not written since MH back 2009, but I read almost everyday and am so thankful that there are people in the world like all those that write here. I feel like I know you all. I have three grown daughters and it is comforting to read about people trying to help parents find their precious daughters. I pray that these ladies will be remembered for all the good they brought to the world, their talents and accomplishments and not how they were taken from this world. Thank you for your dedicated work. You are a treasure.

LC- thank you kindly for your advocacy.

  20. Rose says:

on reflection, it seems to me that JLM’s most salient
feature is a propensity to opportunistic sexual violence, often
resulting in death. The women who escaped with mere
    rape are blessed.

  21. A Texas Grandfather says:

A sad day for the family and for all of us. May GOD give them peace.

Found on the site of an abandoned property as I suspected. JM was a camper who probably spent a lot of time looking for places to take his victims. Now can be considered a predator of young women as recent information indicated.

Dr. Baden seems to think that enough evidence was recovered to verify semen and other body fluids that will produce a DNA connection. He stated that if he was correct, it would be several days before a report would be forthcoming.

I have not seen any reports or coverage of Dr. Baden ATG- but I can tell you the second a recovery begins- it is lockdown on information- AND considering we are now dealing with a multiple homicides- it will be even tighter. One of the worst afternoons in recent memory.

Hannah Graham, a spectacular young lady, is free from the evil that took her from this life. Just for today- I would ask that those that did not know her- learn about her. I would ask that we hold her parents, family and friends in our heart and in our prayers. The angry stuff is forthcoming.

I just feel like it should be exclusively about her coming home.

  22. Mom3.0 says:

  27. A Texas Grandfather says:

It is interesting that Walnut Creek park is East of North Garden and Red Hill road is about a mile to the NE of the center of the park.

I think LE need to continue to work on a location where JM takes his victims to have his way with them. The place where Hannah was found may just be a burial site as was Anchorage Farm with Morgan.

  28. Rose says:

    Blink. this man escalated.
    He became increasingly disorganized.
And, rather than rape, imo the kill became the thrill.

Violent, sexual motivations are extremely complex and when dealing with a serial offender that seems to morph from targeted to crimes of opportunity it is possible that the offender’s “continuum” morphs with him.

As I have said since 2010- we will learn more about JLM from the ones that got away than we will from his dead victims- God rest their souls.

  29. Oneilgirl75 says:

I would really like to know who the tip came from. I hate to say this but I truthfully hope it wasn’t a deal made with LJM. He doesn’t deserve a deal and people that have been enabling him all these years need to hear about the monster they have let run their streets and exactly what he has done. He should have to SAY it and THEY should have to hear it! Awful awful awful!!!! I am thankful she was found for her family to have her back and put her to rest. Praying for peace that only God can provide during this truly horrific time for the families of Hannah and Morgan! Justice is coming girls!

  31. Jane says:

Blink, do you think this place was the crime scene? I read it was nearby his Mother’s home. Could he have been using her home or an outbuilding on her property to hold and torture these girls? Will we ever know anything more about the tip? Lastly, do you think Jesse has been told Hannah remains have been found? I shed tears when I saw Chief Lingo overcome with grief. Wow, he definitely gave it his all…

Yes, I believe Jesse was told of Hannah’s recovery and I believe there were many witnesses.

I want to say that, first, my prayers and thoughts are with the Graham Family. Second, the Harringtons continue to amaze me with their articulation of words through this horrific time in their lives. I pray every single day for the gift to put in words to help others but am left a muddled mess. I am, however, a serial prayer and all are in my continued prayers.

  33. Belsma says:

@Jane.. Maybe that was the weird feeling I had last night when I posted I felt Hannah would be found soon. I have been up and down 64 for years as my dad lived in Waynesboro until he passed last year. Have not been back since March since his wife packed up, but saw Morgans posters at the rest stop just past Cville, and saw Alexis posters in Augusta. I always felt a weird connection traveling back and forth, but how could one not? Especially with a daughter. 4 more years and she is gone, out of my grasp. I am terrified to think it’s possible to have to go through what these other families have.

  34. Belsma says:

Hey B, Is there a reason my comments are still sitting out there waiting when others that have posted after me have been approved? Thanks!

No friend- long afternoon and moderating late, appreciate the patience at this juncture.

    So sad. RIP Hannah. :(
Wonder if the tip came from the neighbors who noticed the vultures and the decomp stench.

    http://www.nbc29.com/story/26822378/neighbors-react-to-human-remains-believed-to-be-hannah-graham

“Lori Hamilton lives just doorsteps from where police say the remains were found. She tells NBC29 her family noticed something unusual in the area in the past few days.

“My husband started smelling things two days ago and saw vultures. And yesterday he was like Lori it really smells bad outside, lets shut the windows,” said Hamilton.

Hamilton says most of the neighbors know each other and would notice suspicious activity. Police have set up a command post just down Old Lynchburg road from Hamilton’s home.

A neighbor who requested not to go on camera told NBC29 that Jesse Matthew lived in the old Lynchburg road area about six years ago and was familiar with the roads and rural stretches of that part of Albemarle County.”

  36. Rose says:

    Q1: ” I believe there were many witnesses. B”

    What does that mean???

Q2: Was it really an abandoned house? inside? If so,how could that have been missed on Sweep 1?

    On Oct 5 I wrote:
“I tried to put myself in Mathew’s mind from the moment he left.
It seemed to me the obvious routes were Old Lynchburg Rd South, and secondarily Rte 20 South.

….I was drawn to Walnut Park Rd. Most particularly this area has creeks & a river.”

“The area is also very wooded. I do not see Mathew was venturing far into woods. Morgan was not in woods. He did not go far into woods in Fairfax. …

With much rsspect to LE, after they diligently cover an 8-10 mi radius, I hope they resurvey the old Lynchburg Rd Rte”

How could an abandoned House be unsearched in this location?
There be more to this location.

Typically when a suspect is in custody, investigators will arrange for witnesses to be present when a suspect learns that the body of an alleged victim is located.

She was located in a dried creekbed, not inside a structure, not far from the road. It is consistent with my early thoughts that if the vehicle in question was utilized, she would not be far from an access road based on the inability to traverse some of the rural landscape.

blink didnt know if you had watched this or not so thought i would post it , so from what this guy said she wasnt buried was out in open just like morgan http://wtvr.com/2014/10/18/searcher-who-found-hannah-graham-remains-says-god-wanted-them-to-find-what-they-found/

  39. GraceintheHills says:

It sounded like a targeted search this morning, and I wondered if the tip came from JLM himself.

Oneilgirl75, IF LE had to make a deal (e.g.,take the possible death penalty off the table) for the Graham’s to be able to take their beloved daughter home so they could give her a proper burial, then so be it.

Jane, re: possible crime scene — if there were structures on the property, I’m sure LE is searching them with a fine toothed comb. This is a fairly isolated area that JLM was very comfortable with. A place he knew well.

It is just beyond horrible that another young woman had to die to catch this (alleged) monster. Who knows how many more victims of his are still out there needing to be found.

  40. Rose says:

excellent explanation of location & condition:
    http://wtvr.com/2014/10/18/searcher-who-found-hannah-graham-remains-says-god-wanted-them-to-find-what-they-found/
    Chesterfield´s 3rd day of search
    Sgt used his brain.
and he went further than assigned.
    Good man.

  41. Rose says:

Blink, how could there be an intact set of
skeletal bones with no flesh at all?
    Acid or what?

Cathartidae. I have seen that type of “finding” in as little as 36 hours.
    B

  42. Scout says:

“Hannah Graham searcher says ‘God wanted’ them to find what they found”

    http://wtvr.com/2014/10/18/searcher-who-found-hannah-graham-remains-says-god-wanted-them-to-find-what-they-found/

Snippet- “It was behind a vacant home, in a dried-up creek bed, Terry said he found a skull and bones, along with a pair of tight, dark-colored pants. Terry said the vertebrae bone appeared long and consistent with a tall person’s body. He said the body was not buried and its location was not far from the road.”

Hmm surprised this guy gave this interview! You would think with the investigation they would make him keep his mouth shut.

  43. N. Cahela says:

So very sad, Morgan’s parents knew with every fiber of their being that this would happen again if this monster wasn’t stopped and they fought with everything they had to save the next girl. I pray they have some form of peace knowing this animal is finally locked in a cage where he belongs. Love and prayers to both these families.

  44. Rose says:

re wtvr interview, Longo is a modern Chief, and a DA’s peer.
None of the interview’s details compromises the investigation or the
prosecutor’s case. And it would be an excellant way to “inform”
JLM before witnesses (TY Blink). Features the hardworking Chesterfield Sgt
responsible for the find & gives him his search due, along with the public.
The great thing about this investigation has been its appropriate public
partnership. Local DAs and Sheriff’s Deputies across the
country should study this methodology. Corwin was similarly
successful. Horman has been the reverse and a “failed” case
study. That interview to me was just the right “wrap.”

    I agree.
    B

  45. Rose says:

does Cathartidae also explain the prior victim’s broken bones?
Imo the “tip” was one of many calls reporting vulture activity in the initial
location of interest. Dry creekbed near an access road and in
plain site, in his old stomping
grounds, does fit the iq & energy level.
This is a low competence criminal allowed to escalate
for over a decade by campus security & prosecutors.

It was a tip from a man that visited the property on Oct 6th, or thereabouts.

No, there is no way a vulture or really any other indiginous carnavor caused any broken bones to Harrington. She was also found largely intact in a confined area.
    B

  46. Ode says:

It bothers me that the searcher that found Hannah states he found a skull and bones. I am having trouble saying this but was the skull still attached to dear dear Hannah’s body?

It is my understanding there was no visible signs of trauma – to a non-forensic professional only-
    B

  47. Josie says:

This is so sad. My deepest sympathy to Hannah’s family, especially her parents and brother. May they find peace and comfort. It does seem that Morgan had a hand in this. I can see her watching over Hannah until she was found. I see them walking together, hand in hand into the light. They are free now.

    Thank you Blink, for everything.

  48. leslie says:

blink…why did you say you believed there wereMANY witnesses…to her rape and murder…or that there were many who suspected him and looked away or ignored their doubts? there was no tip…the cop who found her said they were about to wrap up for the day and he had a feeling…to keep looking..to go to the abandoned buildings in walnut creek park…said god wanted him to find her…?…could her remains be skeletonized in a month? that seems fast…but I do not know…the cop also said her pants were tight…odd…skeletonized remains…tight pants… hmmmm

leslie- not what I said, and I would request you read the posts in the thread before commenting- what I said was that I believed that when Matthew was told Hannah had been recovered I suspect that there were witnesses to his reaction. That could mean closed circuit, that could mean medical personnel, etc, but it is a common investigative tactic when a suspect is in custody- for a variety of reasons.
    B

  49. Judi says:

May Hannah now rest in peace..just absolutely heartbreaking. These girls should still be alive. He could have and should have been stopped.

I wonder what else they may find in that vicinity.

I pray for Hannah’s family, Morgan’s family, Chief Lingo, all the investigators, searchers, and for your Blink. All of us posters are just people who care and we cry. I cannot imagine the pain of their families and friends firest and fforemost, but also for all who worked the case, studied every details, gave their hearts and souls into the case, and those who spent countless hours searching for her and especially those who found Hannah. God bless you all.

  50. Redrock says:

If God could steer an officer to Hannah’s remains, why did God wait a month to touch someone and what was God doing on the night Hannah disappeared?

I am relieved for all she was found and her parents and friends can at least memorialize her life. Hannah was found due to good, determined field work. Not God.

In the extremely fragmented decade old picture of JM’s life that is available, we know of an association with at least five sexual assaults, two of them fatal and one that could have been. I fear we will learn of many more and not just in Charlottesville.

I completely agree. There needs to be an investigative effort dedicated to prior cases, and any potential victims LE is aware of.

On that help from God – I am a pretty spiritual person and there is no question for me that people hurt other people – not God, but he was there when Hannah needed him to take over. To your point- considering his immersion in a very spiritual culture- it does test my faith and general sensibilities until we learn more.

The NCAA is going to have no choice but throw a hat in this ring as well.
