Caylee/Casey Anthony Case: Caylees Autopsy Revelations Part I

Orlando, FL– Under heavy objection last Friday afternoon, Judge Stan Strickland denied the motion on behalf of George and Cindy Anthony to seal Caylee Marie Anthonys autopsy until their daughter Caseys capital murder trial in their granddaughters death. Late Friday afternoon, the Findings of Dr. Jan Garavaglia, Chief Medical Examiner of Orange County were released. In Part I, we explore a few of the notable findings, In Development for Part II, Blinkoncrime will be is creating an interactive 3D Model, incorporating the evidence recovery field, bone disbursement pattern, and anatomical example of the duct tape placement.

The Laundry Bag

WhitneyLaundryBagAlthough the report contains a significant amount of anthropologic and forensic data, it does not contain photos or X-Rays, pursuant to the Earnhardt exclusion under Florida Law. Blinkoncrime.com will attempt to offer some observations and in some cases, correct some erroneous information that is being reported in the msm. For starters, the laundry bag picture being circulated, it is incorrect, the image to the left is the correct bag, note the dimensions are exact. The top of this bag does not cinch.

The Duct Tape

I have seen rampant speculation on the duct tape beginning around 15 minutes following the release of the report.  DuctThere are many who believe that Casey Anthony killed her child by wrapping her nose and mouth with duct tape. Allow me to point out the report actually reflects the antithesis of this theory. First, there IS NO TAPE ON THE POSTERIOR of her skull. The only posterior placement of the tape mentioned is still located on the mandible, or face. The tape, which was actually small strips of grey cloth-based, delaminating tape is applied on top of itself, not really feasible with a live toddler. Given the findings that Caylee’s mandible stayed in almost true anatomical position, although slightly posterior and that the hair that was attached to the tape extended from the back of her head and over her head and face, it is likely Caylee was laying on her back when the tape was applied.  Henkel makes 2 kinds of duct tape, one is more Industrial grade of adhesive “hot set” over cloth designed for waterproof and outdoor projects. It has not yet been disclosed which formulation was used.

The O Sign

A contributing poster at blinkoncrime gave me something to think about that had not occurred to me. I am on record stating I do believe that Casey Anthony murdered her daughter, and that she will end up pointing the finger at one or both of her parents as a defense strategy.

However, the duct tape never really fit for me. I have always believed it to be a post mortem tactic to stage a kidnapping. I do believe I may have been wrong. Very well known to medical and critical care professionals, there is something called an O effect; occurring at very near death, or shortly following death and before rigormortis sets in.

Some medical people refer to it when the person is very near death or has just died–the jaw drops open. Nothing left to hold the mandible shut. In morgue kits there is a strap that is applied around the jaw to gently close it before rigor sets in. This “O” sign can be very pronounced and unsettling to see first hand. Casey probably wasn’t aware of this and was really spooked by this silent scream and used the duct tape then put a heart sticker on it as a ________

This makes sense to me. The tape is applied in small strips across the nose and mouth areas, catching her hair in the face over the Coronal plane region. One interpretation that may be drawn is that Caylee was lying on her back, upon seeing what Casey had done to her child as evidenced by the relaxed mandible; she attempted to “fix her”. As if covering up the evidence of death on her baby would change things, complete with a heart sticker. No sooner did I arrive at this conclusion on Saturday, did I see Dr.Michael Baden appear on Geraldo Live on Sunday evening bringing up the mortuary kit issue. I am not saying this idea originated here, not that it would be the first time, but it at least tells me there is corroboration within the forensic Medical community as to the premise. The FBI report on the duct tape has not been released. One thing is certain, what I have been stating all along about Casey’s prints being on the duct tape seems foreboding. With multiple strips of tape, chances are there are several. The defense has had this report for months, is this why Casey Anthony retained Todd Macaluso?

Swim Diaper?

There are several remnants recovered that are described as a diaper or pull ip item. However, there are a few that appear to be strictly synthetic. When I read the report, my immediate reaction based on some of the coloring was that it was a “swimmie”, or disposable swim diaper. After mapping out the dimensions and a closer look, I believe it is actually referring to remnants of both a pull up, a reusable swim diaper, or swim floation/assistance device or both, as pictured here:

Paper Towels

Simply stated there is decomposition fluid on paper towels in the plastic garbage bag found in her trunk that came from Tony Lazzarros apartment.

In my opinion, Casey ripped the bag Caylees remains were in when she moved her body into or out of the trunk to her final resting place in the woods off Suburban. The stain in the trunk, emitting the ungodly stench, was the target of the paper towels after Casey returned to TonE’s apartment. She brought the paper towels and garbage bag out with her in an attempt to clean it up and realized almost immediately it was an excerise in futility. Immediately following are her comments to Amy about George Anthony borrowing her car, and the infamous squirrel stowaway story.

Her Clothes

In contrast to only a stitching remnant with a manufactures tag left of her shirt, Caylees shorts were found nearly 2 ft ft away from the laundry bag, in relatively good condition. Based on the reports findings of trunk and femural animal activity and the corresponding recovery area, I am of the opinion that it is not possible that Caylee was wearing those shorts when she was dumped in the woods. Frankly, given the fact that the actual color stripe pattern was discernable versus the condition of the other items, I am suspect Casey was in those woods more than once. How do you get only the collar of a shirt remaining and her shorts completely intact with no noted damage? Lastly, Caylees shoes if she were wearing any, were not recovered.

I guess I am really missing something when it comes to the great interest in the menu/grocery list. I just think it could be easiy explained, so I don’t understand why Baez or Cindy are questioning it. I mean after all Casey never did provide for Caylee, the Grandparents did. So why would it be unusual for Casey to make a list of items just for herself? She was never concerned about being responsible for Caylee she just wanted to play the role of Mommie. I think the only place she ever shopped for groceries was in the Anthony’s refrigerator, freezer and pantry!

  4. Kleat says:

Hi Silverspnr, I was just thinking of that question ‘why the rage’, before reading your last comments and going to ask the question myself. As you suggest, Casey wouldn’t be happy to be told she is wrong (corrected, AGAIN!).

  5. Wendy says:

I find the menu discussion to be quite interesting, if not intriguing. Very well done silverspnr, not to mention well thought out, much more though put into it than I gave initially. The only argument to the theory would be, (not mine, but the defense argument) Casey Annie had exchanged text messages about beginning a diet/exercise program, prior to going to Puerto Rico. Maybe I’m getting the A’s confused, was it Amy or Annie, geesh, I had total memory loss just now. Regardless, there were text messages between them about just that very thing, and you can bet that Baez and the new death penalty monster of attorney will jump on that bandwagon, assuming of course that everyone will fall for their theory, without thinking it could be anything other than that. In our minds, it was because Casey was making a menu that didn’t include Caylee because dead children don’t eat, however, you know they will argue that it was simply part of her new diet/exercise regimen. Pffffft, I wouldn’t care what their explanation is personally. If I were on that jury, you couldn’t tell me a thing that mattered to me, right after opening arguments by the prosecution that included…..this woman did NOT report her child missing for 31 days, then and ONLY then, it was reported not by her, but by her mother. I wouldn’t need a SHRED of evidence after that. Not circumstantial, not physical, not hard-core in my face evidence. Nothing more than the 31 days. There is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON for not reporting it, unless it was something you planned, or secretly wanted all along.

  6. Wendy says:

I meant to add, that I too have believed from day one, but most especially after hearing of the neck breaking, household weapons, the original plan was not to get rid of Caylee. I won’t say that Caylee wouldn’t have been involved in it as well, but the real people she was after were her parents, (imo)…. She had promised that the house was going to be hers, setting up that lie long before it was to happen, by saying G and C were divorcing, money troubles, George was cheating, etc. etc. I fully believe she planned on “offing” her parents, and more than likely Caylee as well, probably as some home invasion type thing. Who knows really, but I’d say that’s probably not too far from the truth.

Casey was saying the nanny is rich so she had all the stuff for caylee, extra clothes, car seat – I guess in Casey`s mind this made sense . I have never heard why her “favorite doll” if this is in fact the favorite doll, wasnt given to the so called nanny or perhaps that is because she didnt give caylee to the nanny since supposedly in the second version, the nanny took caylee after pushing casey to the ground.
None of it makes any sense since the nanny didnt havent kids of her own but casey wasnt good at making sure her lies made sense to the average person

More Questions Than Answers (your post 1203)– it will be interesting to see what the context of that ‘list’ was because a shopping list by Casey isn’t going to require repeated attention by Baez unless it raises some clear issues for him and obviously for her mother (and George, ex-cop)

Remember Cindy told the FBI how fussy Casey was about every little detail, even if Caylee was to be left with a sitter or friends for a short time, she had lists of details to give that person of what to do, what Caylee needed, IIRC.

  9. Kleat says:

What is the significance of June 14th, 2008, to Casey? Cindy said Lee told her that Casey’s phone records shoed a significant pattern change on June 14th afternoon, as if frantically trying to call people. Cindy explained to FBI that ‘the 14th’ (couldn’t be July obviously) was when Caylee was actually kidnapped, with the SG apts story what she wanted to be public and for the police to know. But when the ‘real’ kidnap version came out ‘Listen bitch, I’m gonna teach you a lesson and you are not getting Caylee back…’

Why would the number for the date of this kidnap event be the ’14th’? Even assuming the mix-up in the date Caylee was last seen as the 8th, why pick the 14th? Unless Casey checked a calendar to see what the day of the week was 6 days after the 8th, maybe it was ‘Saturday’ and the 14th then fit, for example.

Did they get the date that Caylee went missing wrong, not once, but twice? Something makes no sense here– why would Lee tell Cindy that Casey’s phone records showed a sudden pattern change on June 14th? (if they were working the wrong week, going on June 8th still, what happened on the 14th?)

  12. Kleat says:

Maura, yes, I believe that the car at Amscot was no accident and that she planned NOT to return to pick up the car.

Remember the smell in the car– Casey dumped the car with her wallet, with the garbage and her stuff in it, waiting for it to disappear from Amscot with some thief who wouldn’t know what he or she would be stepping into by taking that car.

Casey was running the car at the very bottom of the tank. It may not have died on the street as the tank was run out– remember also the testimony of Johnson’s tow driver (wasn’t it?) who noted how the car was parked correctly in the space, not as if the car was pushed manually into a space to get it off the street. And Tony picked Casey up from the Amscot, she would not let him help her with the car, although there was a gas station just down the block.

And check out the cell pings for the time the car was at Amscot– Casey knew it wouldn’t be towed within hours or the next day, Amscot gives people some time, which was what happened.

Casey was asked directly by Cindy (jailhouse video) why she never ‘had the chance’ to get back to get the car– Casey declined to answer. If it was a matter of a couple dollars in gas money, she could have said that. (and wouldn’t you think Cindy would be upset about the 500 dollar bill for the tow yard enough to demand that Casey tell her then and there, why she did not get back for the car ‘sooner’?– Cindy would have asked Casey that when she saw her on the 15th, you can bet that money was upsetting her, as well as why the smell and why no Caylee– what happened that involved the car, she would want to know)

The cell pings (IRRC), showed Casey driving back and forth between Tony’s apt area and the Amscot area several times. So she had a vehicle– the gas deal was never about money to fill the tank. It was keeping it low.

I also don’t think it ever actually ‘ran out’ of gas. It would be low, only being filled a few gallons at a time. George and Cindy would know to take gas cans along to pick up the car, and also, that fits with the story of running out of gas– and backs up that story by their actions.

  13. Kleat says:

clarification– cell pings– that is ‘during’ the time that the car was ‘abandoned’ at Amscot. Casey had another vehicle to drive back and forth. Was she watching the car while it sat there?

  14. j.g. says:

I think the facts have come out that PROVE Casey tried to pick the car up at Amscot.
    1. As Tony stated on the link someone posted to Scared Monkey’s..he was in a hurry to not be late to turn in a project at school on 9/28 when he picked C up at Amscot.
    2. Casey stated she left 2 notes on the car.(Who knows if this is true or not, but she stated it).
    3. She called Jesse on 6/28 asking to borrow a gas can, he stated he was on the other side of Orlando.
    4. On 6/29 she text Amy could she borrow “her & her gas can”. Amy stated they were in storage.
    5. On 6/30 Amy took Casey & they bought a gas can. The car was towed midmorning on the 30th.

Also, it was not Casey’s purse left in the car, but just a sort of carry all, if I remember correctly it even had Amy’s resume in it.

I know this was explained earlier somewhere in these 1200 comments, but don’t have time to go back & reference it to which #. I read it initially, wrote it down, & went back to cross reference it from the evidence.

  15. j.g. says:

I keep going back to the paper towels in the trash bag in the trunk with human decomp on them. From the police questioning Tony they seemed to hone in on the garbage in that bag pinning it directly to Tony’s. The many pictures in evidence of the garbage at different angles to cover it all. The fact that the smokeless tobacco can was tied to a roommate of Tony’s…(per Tony’s police depo). As was something else that belonged to Tony that was distinctive.

As Blink pointed out, Casey probably tried to clean the stink out of the car (probably coming from that circle of stain). Tying her to the bag of trash coming from Tony’s with the paper towels in it (that should come back positive from the FBI forensics) is a key piece of evidence I think. Both posts are JMO.

I am awed at how so many posters are so quick to pick up on stuff we overlook. Especially Silver…wow, the defense sure must read these comments & cringe. Now I am off to watch what he is talking about Casey’s rage…I’ve watched that a dozen times and know now before even watching it again he is right!

  19. silverspnr says:

I just want to make it clear that we will never see or probably even hear about that grocery list at trial. I don’t believe there is any evidence that it was turned over to LE/the prosecution. I think Cindy found it, became concerned, and gave it to Baez (who likewise found it curious, to say the least, because if had zero significance, why would he have questioned Casey about it 3 OR 4 TIMES).
We can all see a veritable mountain of evidence that LE/the prosecution DOES have. They won’t bother with anything that arguably could only have a hint of probative value in terms of evidence of premeditation.

The computer searches, coupled with all of the statements Casey made to her friends, particularly to Amy, about getting that house on Hopespring/trouble in the marriage/George’s health… would have been EXTREMELY useful in terms of proving premeditation had C&/or G ended up “missing” (murdered).

The searches alone are also highly probative, because they are not simply about a way to kill/harm someone (neck breaking), but they also include searches on missing children sites/lost phone numbers/that One Tree Hill episode, so I think, there is no need for any additional piece of evidence there, although it is always nice to have a “planning list” in the accused’s own handwriting.

How many stupid convicted murderers write out lists which tend to prove their plans?? More than you might imagine.

So… if LE/the prosecution had this list, coupled with this phone call, it could just be another piece of evidence showing that she thought CAYLEE might not be around, and add to the pile. This is why it caught my ear.

  20. Maura says:

I agree that Casey is sometimes given far too much credit for being some sort of criminal mastermind. I often disagree with Leonard Padilla, but IMO, he is on the money when he says Casey Anthony lives her life 10 minutes at a time.

Sometimes she lies to get out of an unpleasant duty as when she lied about George’s mini-stroke to get out of driving Amy to Jacksonville. Sometimes she lies out of desperation as when she lied about Caylee’s kidnapping babysitter. And sometimes she lies to impress people whose good opinion she wants. Whatever the reason for the lie, she gets a thrill out of deceiving people and seeing how far she can take the lie and get away with it. I do not, however, think she ever believes her own stories. She knows they’re lies and doesn’t forget that they’re lies.

I’ve read many comments on discussion forums left by people who believe Casey had a plan worked out to kill George and Cindy and that the proof of her plotting is in Casey’s story that Cindy and George were divorcing and Cindy would be letting Casey take over the mortgage payments. As I look at the available evidence, this was simply part of an evolving lie that Casey told to impress Amy Huizenga.

In May, Amy Huizenga learned that the house she was renting with Troy in Oviedo was going to be sold, so she needed to find a new place to live. From Amy’s available text messages, Casey pretended to be about to buy a house of her own and offered to let Amy live with her and help with the mortgage.

Text May 13: (9:59AM) from Casey Anthony: The bright side to that..im going to need a roommate. As much as i would like to do the house thing alone and extra 400 would save me from working a few e (cut off).

On May 19, Amy learned there was an offer on the house she was renting with Troy and that the new owners’ tentative move-in date would be roughly June 18..

Text May 19: (6:14PM) from Casey Anthony: Ill be in a place by then. You can stay with me. Im looking at a place tomorrow with my mom that i might be signing on.

Text May 20: (9:13AM) from Casey Anthony: Not yet. Waiting for the homeowner to call me back. Im excited too!

Text May 20: (11:33AM) from Casey Anthony: The house is already pretty much empty. She said we can move in the same day. Its up to us.

Text May 20: (11:35AM) from Casey Anthony: That would help im sure! Theres an inground pool with a fenced in porch and backyard. Its a great starting house.

However, every time Amy tried to set a date to look at the place, Casey came up with an excuse (had to work late, had the flu, etc.). Casey had to keep putting her off because there was no house Casey was planning to buy.

Text May 21: (1:16PM) from Casey Anthony: Can i raincheck seeing the house? I just got back from the drs and dont feel too hot at all. Stupid flu.

Text May 23: (4:07PM) from Casey Anthony: Trust me. Im serious. Ive been to this house 4 times already. Im pretty set. I asked the homeowner to wait til the end of the month so i can get everythis warranted.

Casey left the following on Amy’s Facebook at 11:28am on May 24th, 2008:

“so i think i forgot to tell you that
    1. you are awesome.
    2. boys are stupid.
    3. ‘bow ties, let’s find some HOT guys’ night is in the works
    4. this week, we’re going to the house. i don’t care when, or how.

ok. i’m done, for now. thanks for listening! :)

Casey sent Amy a text message on May 26 indicating Casey would show her the house the following day:

Text May 26: (10:37PM) from Casey Anthony: House tomorrow. And a good guy will find you. No looking.. well.. maybe a little looking.

However, to get out of showing Amy the non-existent house Casey was pretending to be buying, on the morning of May 27 (the day she had finally agreed to show Amy the house), Casey send Amy a message saying she had awesome news that she would share with Amy after work.

Text May 27: (9:36AM) from Casey Anthony: I have the biggest news..and i mean huge! Ill call you when i get done this afternoon. Wow..seriously amazingly awesome news! Hope the added suspense helps :-D

From the text messages that follow, it is clear that Casey had fed Amy the story that George and Cindy were divorcing and that Cindy was going to get a condo, letting Casey take over the mortgage payments on the Anthonys’ Hopespring Drive house.

Text May 28: (3:39PM) from Casey Anthony: Good news. We have an excuse to get all your stuff out of storage. We will eventually need a pretty decent amount of stuff.

Text May 28: (3:52PM) from Casey Anthony: Thats perfect. If anything once we move my stuff into my parents room we can use my room for storage and the garage too. There will be plenty of room.

Casey kept up the pretense of getting the Hopespring house for a month.

Casey posted the following on Amy’s Facebook wall at 7:33am on June 4th, 2008:

“oh, the times we will have!
i can’t wait for us to become roomies in another week! seriously…by the end of next week, it will be just us girls. i can’t believe it! :)

Amy started sleeping on the couch at Ricardo and JP’s house around June 7 because although her belongings were still at the Oviedo house, she and Troy had to vacate.

From June 16 until June 30, Casey stayed at Tony Lazzaro’s full time, and during that period, she continued to string Amy along with the story of getting the Anthony house. Around the middle of June, Amy sent a text to Casey saying her things were nearly all packed and wanting to know when it would be okay to move her things over to the Anthony house. From Amy’s LE testimony, whenever Amy would ask Casey when she could move her things to Hopespring Drive, Casey would tell her George insisted on getting something fixed first, however, Casey let Amy put in a change of address at the post office on June 17. Casey sent her the address by text, still pretending as if she were getting the house:

    June 17:

Amy text to Casey: What is your address? I’m going to the post office to do a change of address in a little bit.

Casey text to Amy at 11:28am: 4937 Hopespring Drive, Orlando, FL 32829

    Amy text to Casey: Thanks!

Casey left the following on Amy’s Facebook at 3:15pm on June 17th, 2008 (the same day):

“cheer up me lady! i love you and can’t wait to finally get you moved in”

Text messages show that Casey was encouraging Amy to buy things for the house. Amy was getting anxious to move her things out of the Oviedo house and into the Anthony house and had hoped to move no later than June 21, but Casey would not allow her to move her packed items to Hopespring Drive.

Casey left the following on Troy’s Facebook at 2:40pm on June 24th, 2008:

“she still has yet to move into the house. hell, in the past 9 days, i haven’t even been living at the house. DRAMMMMMA. i’ll fill ya in later on.

    miss ya, yo.”

A few minutes later, Amy left a message on Troy’s Facebook at 2:46pm on June 24th, 2008:

“I’m still at Ricardo and JPs… hopefully everything works out soon! Hey, so I forwarded my mail a little late… any idea how to get my insurance stuff that got mailed to the Oviedo house?”

Finally, Amy was expecting to move into the Anthony house on Saturday, June 28.

Text on June 25: (9:08PM) from Casey Anthony: What time saturday?
Text on June 25: (12:09PM) from 4075956337: When u moving this wknd? i gotta do something sat early afternoon

It would seem (going by Amy’s LE interviews) that on June 26 or 27, Casey broke the sad news to Amy that Cindy legally had 30 days to revoke the offer to Casey and had done so. Cindy and George were getting a divorce, but Casey wasn’t going to get the house.

Since Amy was not allowed to move her things to the Anthony house but had to have everything out of the Oviedo house, she put her belongings in a temporary storage facility while continuing to sleep on JP and Ricardo’s couch. It’s hinted at from the “camera” messages on June 29 that Amy had been told that Casey was not getting the house.

    Text messages on June 29:

Casey sent text around 10:25a to Amy: “Can I borrow you and your gas can today?”

Amy’s response to Casey: “Storage hun. I was supposed to have my stuff out by now.”

Casey sent text around 11:24a to Amy: “Shit. I forgot.”

Amy text to Casey: “Sorry! Hey, my camera is being shipped to your house. What should I do about that?”

Casey sent text around 12:38p to Amy: “How soon?”

Amy text to Casey: “I don’t know. Once it’s fixed?”

Tony went to NY from June 30 to July 5 on his Full Sail University break, and he did not leave Casey with a key to his apartment. Casey stayed with Amy at JP’s on the nights of July 1-July 4 (during which period she stole Amy’s $400 cash). Since Casey and Amy were spending so much time together during those days, there is not much in Amy’s text messages to indicate what Casey was telling her about future housing arrangements.

According to Amy’s July 23 OCSO interview, Casey was talking about getting an apartment, and while there was some talk of sharing an apartment together, Amy said she had already made other arrangements. In a text message to Amy on July 10, Casey wrote:

8:47am: “So im looking at a couple more places today and finding a flight tonight.”

The next day, July 11, Casey told Troy Brown she could not go to Puerto Rico because she needed to get a place to live and a new car.

At any rate, Casey knew the clock was ticking, and she was just blowing smoke to keep up the pretence. Tony, Nathan, and Cameron’s Sutton Place lease was up at the end of July and they were planning to move to a new complex. Since Tony had not given Casey his apartment key when he went to NY in early July, she may have been unsure of what her situation would be when Tony moved to a new apartment in early August.

The longer she continued to live apart from Caylee, the more suspicion she would raise regarding her apparent disinclination to find a living situation in which she could be with Caylee. But of course Caylee was dead and Casey’s Day of Reckoning was coming. She knew she would not be able to put off Cindy and George after August 9, Caylee’s third birthday, so the big question is whether she was planning to run by that date and go underground somewhere or whether she was planning to face George and Cindy with a concocted story to explain her inability to produce Caylee.

We’ll never know what she planned on doing because Cindy found her first. During the ride to Tony’s apartment on July 15, Amy told Cindy what Casey had said about getting the house, and Cindy told Amy that she and George were not divorcing and that she had only said to Casey one time that she might have to sell the house because it was difficult for her to make the mortgage payments. I suspect the subject came up during one of many arguments when Cindy was venting her fury at having to cover for Casey’s stealing all the time. That statement by Cindy about possibly needing to move was IMO the tiny kernel of truth upon which Casey built her story to Amy.

The change-of-address notice that Amy filed on July 17 greatly confused George and Cindy, but Cindy said in an LE interview that when they asked Casey about the change of address notice, Casey told them that Amy needed to have a package shipped to a different address than her own house. Cindy said she told Casey that Amy didn’t need to put in a change of address to use the Anthony address for a package. We don’t know how Casey responded, but in the first part of July, a camera that Amy had shipped to the Anthony house was returned to sender, so Cindy was refusing Amy’s mail. Amy merely thought she had put down the wrong address and Casey allowed her to think that’s what happened.

So my opinion is that Casey concocted the lie about getting the Anthony house because she had backed herself into a corner by pretending to be buying a house herself and then needed a way out of that lie without losing face. Casey couldn’t let her new friends find out that she was an unemployed, high school drop-out so broke she needed to steal gas. She was pretending to be superwoman: a young, single mother who was a full-time event planner, college student, and house-hunter with $15,000 in savings. Casey could not allow a realtor to run a background employment check on her, and Casey certainly didn’t have money for a security deposit, rent, and utilities. So she concocted a story about getting the Anthony house in order to buy her enough time to force Amy to find another arrangement. Nothing more than that.

Responding to comment 1189 by Kleat

I believe George was being honest in his descriptions of what Casey and Caylee were wearing the last time he saw them together. That doesn’t mean he was accurate, but I do not believe he was deliberately misleading LE about the clothing details.

Brian Burner said she was wearing shorts and a sports bra when she borrowed the shovel.

George told the FBI that when he saw Casey on June 24, she was dressed nicely and said she only had 10 minutes to grab a change of clothes. He did not give specifics about the clothes she was wearing.

Cindy said the pants that were on the back seat smelled like the car (like decomposition). It was the clothing that Lee retrieved from Tony’s apartment that smelled like smoke.

Lee said in his OCSO interview that when George and Cindy were being questioned by the deputies, Lee and Casey were in the garage and could hear every word that was said. My opinion is that Casey was listening closely and in the OCSO statement she wrote a few hours later, she incorporated as many details as she could (Cindy’s June 9 date, George’s description of Caylee’s clothing on June 16, etc.) in an attempt to bolster the credibility of her own preposterous story.

Very very interesting observation on Casey’s two episodes of “rage”. The one with the “munues” I was completely unfamiliar with. I have read and re-read 1000+ posts and have not come across anyone (that I can see) commenting on what could/would be a 3rd incidence of rage. It is something I detected months ago and it has always perturbed me. Listen to one of the 911 calls made by Cindy. I had to turn my computer volume up on high. But, it is the call where the 911 operator wants to speak directly to the mother of the missing child. Listen closely. When the phone is handed to Casey she “growls” at her mother. After I heard this the first time it showed me clearly that the tot mom was angry with her mother, and infuriated that she was forced to take the phone and deal with the call “she never wanted to make.” IMO

Look up Anthony Lazzaro Interview 7/22 with Erick Edwards 6:30 into it …

He states he met Casey through Facebook, he saw she was a Valencia student so he hit her up.
She told many friends in Anthony’s circle she was a Valencia student, which has since been proven through documentation that she wasn’t.
I believe the state will call Ms. Simpson to confirm this fact, further showing Casey as a habitual liar before leaving the house with Caylee the night of June 15th, when I personally believe she killed her daughter in a fit of rage.

  27. suz says:

I suppose it doesn’t have to have been the REAL George Anthony that called Valencia to check up on Casey’s alleged enrollment. Could have been an unscrupulous reporter or blogger or nosey nellie of stome stripe just poking around for whatever reason.

  28. Kleat says:

Hi j.g., weighing in here on the car and the ‘purse’. Could be it was something other than a wallet, but remember in Cindy’s interviews with the FBI, how she goes to great lengths to say how a woman would never leave a purse, and her point was to emphasize that the car was NOT abandoned by Casey because a woman would not leave the purse…. etc. And again, with LE, the last of the interview videos, Cindy has her purse on the table at the start of the interviews, moves it to the ground beside her chair where it is no longer visible to her or the camera. At the end, one of the officers reminds her about the purse, then we go into the story about women never leaving purses again.

Also, (someone help me out with source here if you remember) but George, wasn’t it, who was being interviewed, and the discussion of the car contents comes up. The wallet with it’s ID, driver’s licence is noted, and the investigator notes that Casey had been driving around, going places, with NO ID.

Yes, there was a bag with resumés of Amy in the car but there was specific references to the purse, open on the seat as if to attract someone to break into the car, or put hands on a window to look inside, try a door– etc.

Love it if you find your reference to squash the purse idea.

    Q: for Blink

Found a media release by Baez, that was attributed to Glenn Selig, ‘The Publicity Agent’. The link to this newsrelease had commented about Selig working for Casey. Sure enough, that’s what ‘The Publicity Agent’ claims on it’s own Casey subject news release as the make the following statement within the release itself:

“About The Publicity Agency: The Publicity Agency (http://www.thepublicityagency.com) represents Jose Baez and Casey Anthony in dealing with the news and other media.”

What was the relationship between Baez and Selig? (I did a keyword search with Selig’s name on your site, and it did not pop up) Why so short-lived? (not being paid as much as TB perhaps????? ;)

Here is the PRNewsChannel site with their ‘Casey’ press release of Sept 1, 2008.
    http://www.prnewschannel.com/absolutenm/templates/?a=794&z=11

When I reviewed that originally, I took it as that PR firm was really just covering the case and had no relationship per se.

  31. suz says:

I’m pretty sure that as far as the defense is concerned, just because casey is most certainly a big fat liar does (and a thief) does not mean that she is a killer. And sure, we see some anger in her jailhouse tapes (who wouldn’t be frustrated to be stuck behind bars when their daughter is missing? yes, yes, I know, but that’s how that could be explained) but where is the history of violence? Does anyone ever talk about her having a temper or any violent tendencies? (Tho the google searches are odd to say the least)

  32. Kleat says:

Has anyone ever find out who represented the 23 year old ZG in traffic court on June 11, 2008 ?

Also maybe someone knows how cell phone records work, but it seems that ‘someone’ cancelled Casey’s cell phone account before OCSO could get the actual voice messages incoming to Casey’s cell phone. That data was lost because the cell phone was cancelled– Lee was involved with Casey’s cell phone info. Why would the family want to destroy incoming voice messages? Lee told Casey in jail, that they (the family) couldn’t get her cell phone records because the Power of Attorney given to Cindy wouldn’t cover things for Casey in her type of situation. (that sounds wierd– there are temporary P of A’s for specific purposes that can be given). Besides, Casey herself, was home during that period (before about 3rd week in July IIRC, when LE was advised the records were destroyed).

Could this be what ‘Lee knows he has done’?? Effectively destroying evidence of incoming voice messages? (ie: making it impossible to know that there was NOT a ZG out there– but at the same time, destroying evidence of someone else being the kidnapper which they knew would not be on the voicemail messages because there was no kidnapper)

  33. Kleat says:

suz, Cindy certainly talks about Casey’s tendencies for that but with rose coloured welding goggles on!!

That ‘flash’ of rage was ‘rage’, not just anger– but of course, Casey is angry everyday about her situation. Something pushed that to a high level in the Cindy conversation– and it popped out accidentally– not something Casey would ever have wanted to show. I’d think that she was not upset and frustrated for this to come out as happened in the Aug jail videos. That rage just ‘leaked out’, then Casey composed herself immediately in time to say goodbye in the last moments of the visit.

Blink, Maura 1220 and all you other bloggers: There is sooo much evidence to prove this nasty young biotch killed her daughter, how can they possibly take this to a jury trial? There is NO defense! We can hash all this information around and think and think but it always comes back to TwinkieBoobs killing her daughter. I am really, really scared there is a plan in motion to tamper with a juror or threaten a member of a juror’s family. There is BIG secret money involved here. How are George and Cindy sustaining their lifestyles?

Kleat- I have a hard time believing that those messages were erased and can no longer be accessed. I think the prosecution has them- maybe just hasn’t released them. A very good friend of mine was killed in a car accident on 1/8/08 and she called her mother in law on her way home to check on the kids that day- the phone company was able to put the last conversation they had together on a CD. I also wanted to comment on those who believe Cindy truly forgot the date of the last time she saw Caylee- go back and watch her M&M depos- she doesn’t forget dates. Cindy is well organized and LOVES to correct anyone who is questioning her or her family. Thanks everyone for keeping it interesting.

I have loved reading this site and all the viewpoints. Thank you Blink for all your hard work.

Kleat, you got me really interested in the conversations with George and Cindy and Casey on July 25, 2008 and the possible “missing” words being said. I have found the best site to hear every single word, in all visits that day is WFTV and here is the link for the afternoon, Part 2 where you question exactly what is being said:

    http://www.wftv.com/video/18206653/index.html

I can hear Casey say, “I just wished I could have said something or have hugged you or at least spent a moment with you the day of the hearing.” Then George says, “I know Sweetie, we felt the same way. I wanted to reach over and hug you and tell you I love you and to stay at a distance is….even like right here, this is a distance. It’s hard to be away from you. You know to hold your hand to hug you it’s hard…hard.”

Kleat #1232, I was also wondering about whether it was Lee who canceled her cellphone above in 791 and 834, but Maura or someone sensible pointed out that it might have been canceled for not being paid. (But I swear I read it was canceled by an unknown male, but i have not yet found where I had read that.)

I’m happy to call that a burst of rage in the video tape, but since she doesn’t smack anything (just balls up her little fists and bulges her eyes and kind of shakes a little if I recall) is it enough to prove that she is capable of violence? Of murder? Heck, do they even HAVE to prove that she is? I reckon they will need a motive tho.

Comment 1228 – I hope this is what you are looking for. GA is describing things in KC’s car in his 7/1 interview. He says he gets within 3 ft of KC’s car at the towyard and smells an odor even though the car is locked up. He goes onto to say he makes sure the tires are aired up and even takes a glance in the windows before he opens the door. He says he sees Caylee’s carseat , KC’s PURSE , clothes and that the car was in a disarray. Says the purse was like a regular purse. The detective interviewing him asks if KC’s I.D. was in it , and GA says “yes”. The detective says “so wherever KC was , she was w/o an I.D.? GA answers “yes”. Detective asks ” so at least for 2 weeks 6/30-7/15 KC had been out and about w/ no I.D. to your knowledge? GA answers “yes”. Here’s the link to the 7/31 interview it’s part 5 of 7. http://www.wftv.com/video/18033964/index.html

I hope this helps and it’s what you’re looking for.

    The above should read GA’s 7/31 interview….not 7/1.

  42. Miss Amy says:

While I am at it I am curious to what others on here think of the 6/24 gas theft report , I posted this on another site as well:I just watched GA’s interview that took place on 7/31/08. In part 5 of that interview , GA is talking about the shovel that KC borrowed from BB ,(neighbor) he is telling the detectives that the only reason KC had to borrow BB’s shovel b/c his shed has a lock on it , a brand NEW lock on it. He even goes into detail of the lock being fiberglass etc. He goes on to say someone would have to be tough to get anything outta his shed AGAIN. I was like WTH does he mean by again? So, I went back to re-read BB’s interview to see when KC did borrow his shovel , and he states it was either 6/18 or 6/19. So, if BB is accurate on his dates , then that would mean GA would have had to have had that BRAND new lock on his shed prior to him making the gas can theft report 6/24.The detective even says to George that the shovel incident would of have to have been after 6/24 , b/c of the new lock …George looks down and says “yeah”. I guess what I am getting at is……If KC had to borrow the shovel from BB on 6/18 or 6/19 because of the new lock on the shed , then that would put the shed breakin before the 6/18 or 6/19 dates?? IMO There is something fishy to this date of 6/24.

Responding to comment 1212 by Kleat

I’ve already given most of my argument for believing Casey intended to retrieve the car in comments 1057, 1058, 1070, and 1090 upthread.

My responses to additional points you made in comment 1212 are as follows,

The car was towed by Gary Ridgeway of Johnson’s Wrecker on June 30 around 9:00am. On page 3 of his July 24 OCSO interview, Ridgeway said the car was locked:

Gary Ridgeway: “Being a front wheel drive car, I checked to see if it was unlocked because sometimes you can put them in neutral and move them, but it was locked.”

There was no wallet in the car when it was parked at Amscot; Casey’s wallet was at Tony’s apartment and Lee picked it up there on July 15. On the front seat of the Pontiac was a black case with CDs and a large, black leather satchel that contained Casey’s Universal lanyard and Amy Huizenga’s resumes. Cindy referred to the satchel in one interview as Casey’s “other” purse that was Casey’s work bag (Cindy’s August 4 OCSO interview, pages 29-30). In her FBI interview on July 30, Cindy said there was a shamrock necklace missing that Casey wore all the time. It was in a bag in the front of the car that Casey took to work. (no transcript available)

Gary Ridgeway looked inside the car and said the only thing that stood out for him was the child seat in the back.

    No ladies’ handbag, no wallet.

The car was locked. Simon Burch, manager of the tow yard, told OCSO on July 24 that George had a set of keys that he used to open the door and then placed that key in the ignition (page 6 OCSO interview). So Casey did not leave any keys in the car.

So how exactly was she making things easy for a would-be thief?

Casey had a bag of frozen food with her that she had taken from the Anthony house. I believe she pulled into the Amscot lot when she realized she wasn’t going to make it to Tony’s apartment. She had enough gas to pull in and park, and then could very well have stayed in the car with the air conditioning on to keep herself and the food chilled for as long as possible until the car conked out for good.

IMO she left the resumes and lanyard in the car because she didn’t see any need to take them to Tony’s overnight. Tony said she was holding clothes and a bag of groceries that he assumed she got from the Anthony house. Those are the things she needed. She left the CDs and resumes/lanyard in the car because she planned to go back the next day, if possible, judging from her 1:25pm call to Jesse on June 28 to borrow his gas cans.

I also believe she left the trash bag in the trunk so that she’d have an alibi for the smell, not because she was trying to point suspicion at Tony or his roommates (if anything, she has vehemently defended their innocence in the matter of Caylee’s disappearance). Leonard Padilla said somewhere that the trash bag contained a June 19 pizza receipt in addition to the empty pizza box. I believe she disposed of the body on June 18 or 19 and put the trash bag in the trunk immediately afterwards so that in a pinch, she could find the “forgotten” trash bag in the trunk and pretend it was the source of the foul odor in the trunk. The only reason she took the trash bag from Tony’s apartment is that is was handy. Nothing else.

Moreover, I do not believe her story of needing the help of good Samaritans to push her car into the Amscot lot. That sounds to me like an attempt by Casey to dramatize the situation, and maybe she was hoping that by describing more difficulty than she had actually experienced that Tony would be more sympathetic given that he was irritated with her for running out of gas (and calling him for help) twice in five days.

In her August 4 OCSO interview, Cindy asked the detective if a note had been found on the car because she said on July 15, she asked Casey why she didn’t go back for the car and Casey told Cindy that she put a note on the windshield and had every intention of going back. (Pages 10 and 11) Casey explained the smell on July 15 with the “squirrel” story. During Cindy and George’s first July 25 jail visit; Cindy asked why Casey never got a chance to get the car. Casey’s answer was that their conversation was being recorded and she didn’t want to say anything that would be misconstrued. She said she would have to answer that question later.

Why didn’t Casey answer that question during the jail visit? Number one, she wanted to shut down all conversation about the car for reasons that are probably obvious to everyone reading this. Questions about the car constituted a minefield she wanted to avoid, especially on a videotape that was being monitored by LE. She would not have satisfied Cindy by saying she didn’t have four dollars for a gallon of gas because the follow-up would have been to ask why she didn’t borrow a few dollars from one of her friends. Casey certainly didn’t want to tell the truth – that while her 34-month-old daughter had presumably been kidnapped by a psychotic babysitter, Casey had been too busy snuggling with her new boyfriend at his apartment and going to clubs and movies with him to bother with any responsibilities. She certainly didn’t want to admit to George and Cindy that she had asked Jesse Grund for help since in the same visit she told her parents that he couldn’t be trusted.

The cell phone pings do not show that Casey was driving past Amscot on June 28 or June 29. When she’s at Tony Lazzaro’s apartment, she pings three different towers:

Tower 1 (21512) is at 98 Purlieu Pl, 32792 (1.11 miles WNW of TL apartment)

Tower 2 (20723) is at 4490 N Goldenrod Rd, 32792 (1.05 miles ENE of TL apartment)

Tower 3 (20341) is at 6817 Old Cheney Hwy, 32807 (3.04 miles S of TL apartment and 0.76 miles west of Amscot)

It’s clear from the lack of any pattern in the tower pings when she’s firing off a rapid series of calls and text messages that she can hit all three towers in rapid succession when she is not physically moving; her calls and text messages are simply being routed to whichever tower within the signal area has the least activity at the time she’s making a call or sending a text.

For example, on June 25, she was at Tony’s apartment. In the space of eight minutes, she used her cell phone 10 times and was hitting all three towers in no particular order:

3:05p: #1 (1.11 miles WNW of TL apartment)
3:06p: #1 (1.11 miles WNW of TL apartment)
3:07p: #3 (3.04 miles S of TL apartment and 0.76 miles west of Amscot)
3:09p: #3 (3.04 miles S of TL apartment and 0.76 miles west of Amscot)
3:10p: #2 (1.05 miles ENE of TL apartment)
3:10p: #3 (3.04 miles S of TL apartment and 0.76 miles west of Amscot)
3:11p: #3 (3.04 miles S of TL apartment and 0.76 miles west of Amscot)
3:12p: #1 (1.11 miles WNW of TL apartment)
3:12p: #2 (1.05 miles ENE of TL apartment)
3:13p: #1 (1.11 miles WNW of TL apartment)

When she pings tower #3, it only means she is within a few miles of 6817 Old Cheney Hwy. It does not mean she is driving past Amscot because she could be sitting on Tony Lazzaro’s couch.

From Tony’s testimony, he only wanted to hang out in a low-key way for the weekend prior to his NY trip from June 30 to July 5 and that is what Casey’s cell pings show. He and Casey went to Fusian Friday night (June 27). They spent most of Saturday hanging out at his apartment and then went to the movies that evening. Casey’s cell pings show her hitting the three towers around Tony’s all day until around 6:30pm. Lee found a receipt for June 28 at 7:15pm for the cash purchase of two tickets ($16) at Waterford movie theater to see “Wanted.” The following day, Sunday, June 29, Tony said they hung around his apartment all day. Again, Casey’s cell pings confirm his testimony.

I believe she got some money for gas at Fusian on the night of Friday, June 27, but she did not want to ask Tony to help her because she didn’t want to irritate him. She was probably on her very best behavior in the hope that he would leave her his apartment key so that she could stay there when he was in New York (he didn’t give her a key). That’s why she called Jesse in the early afternoon of Saturday, June 28 and why she sent a text to Amy at 10:25am on Sunday, June 29: “Can I borrow you and your gas can today?”

And lastly, while Casey certainly isn’t brilliant, if she had planned to ditch the car in order to distance herself from the evidence of decomposition, she never would have sent this text message to Amy less than 30 minutes before walking away from the car forever:

11:35am Casey text to Amy: “There was definitely part of a dead animal plastered to frame of my car.”

In sending that text message, Casey acknowledged her awareness of animal decomposition in her car. Not only did she acknowledge it, but she put it in writing with a date and time stamp.

As I look over the discovery, I see that the evidence supporting Casey’s intent to retrieve the car from Amscot is overwhelming.

  44. Maura says:

George told the FBI on July 31 that he and Simon Burch had walked to the car on the tow lot, and when he was within three feet of car, he caught the smell of a decomposing body. He made sure all the tires were okay. George said he could see the car seat and Casey’s purse.

The FBI agent wanted to know if Casey’s real purse was in the front seat. George said, “Yes.” The FBI agent asked if her driver’s license was in the car. George said, “Yes.” The agent then noted that Casey had been without ID and her driver’s license all that time.

    ***

George was wrong. As Cindy’s testimony clarified, it was not Casey’s main purse (her handbag) on the front seat, but a work bag. George was also wrong in claiming that Casey’s driver’s licence was in the car because the check fraud documents in Amy Huizenga’s case clearly state that Casey’s FL driver’s licence was presented to the Target/Winn Dixie cashiers and BoA bank teller and that the license was either photocopied by those people or it was taken and the DL# written on the back of the checks.

Since the car had been towed on June 30, since Casey was using her Florida DL to cash checks between July 8 and 15, George was wrong when he claimed Casey’s FL DL was in the Pontiac.

  45. ELMOSMOMMY says:

#1231 – suz – the only info I can remember where casey`s rage was mentioned is when neighbours talk about hearing cindy and casey fight on 2 or 3 occasions when they say casey would be screaming and swearing and cindy would remain calm and one friend mentioning cindy using caseys email and casey caught her and got mad, but doesnt seem to be a case of friends saying constantly that casey would go overboard on getting upset easily which would have been a help in this case.

  46. Miss Amy says:

    Comment to post 1244 Maura
Is it possible KC could’ve had another D.L.of herself? I recall Lee saying that the purse he retrieved from Tonys had her DL in it , and he thought maybe an old DL’s was behind it. He states he wasn’t sure though , because the lady officer grabbed it quickly. It’s been a long time since I read Lee’s interview so I could be wrong on that. If I didn’t have to go to work I’d go back and re-read his interview. I will re-read it as soon as I get a chance.

    Maura, thanks.

Just a quick notation to your second to last sentence Post #1245. I recently reviewed the Target purchases video, the check-out that included the white sunglasses, bras, assorted other clothing on hangers. I watched Casey’s motions with the chequebook, the ID, the pen, fiddling with her hair, clothes, purse. Then I watched the cashier closely while Casey was waiting to write the cheque, then as she wrote it, and finally, the cashiers attention to the cheque and ID. It was interesting. Nicely done, Casey, a little fiddling going on, but otherwise, it worked well and the cashier paid little attention to the upper right corner of the cheque where presumably, Amy’s name and address would be printed.

The cashier did little to compare the ID, certainly she did not put the ID and cheque together to compare anything, in particular the same name! (a bit of a give-away) If you watch this, note how quickly the cashier flipped the cheque over to obtain the print out on it by the machine and then immediately she tucks it under the bill stack without inspecting it. Note also how she handles Casey’s ID, whips it through the scanner and hands it back to Casey.

No way did this Target cashier handwrite anything on the cheque. There may have been typing in the DL numbers for the print out on the reverse of the cheque, but this did not alert her to the fact that the cheque belonged to someone with a different name and address.

Comparing the name on the cheque to the name on the ID was not done. (note how Casey positioned her left hand over the top left of the cheque, leaving her DL in the open). Of course when she held the chequebook for writing, that would be a normal position for her hand, but it was covering that area well ahead of time too.

I guess Target relys on catching the person after the fact rather than the simple procedure of checking name (minimally) on the two documents.

Maura, to one of your other points, which is to verify information based on Cindy’s statements:

“George was wrong. As Cindy’s testimony clarified, it was not Casey’s main purse (her handbag) on the front seat, but a work bag. George was also wrong in claiming that Casey’s driver’s licence was in the car because the check fraud documents in Amy Huizenga’s case clearly state that Casey’s FL driver’s licence was presented to the Target/Winn Dixie cashiers and BoA bank teller…”

Quite a bit of what George stated to LE and FBI was wrong and corrected by Cindy. Cindy corrected many things in the media and in her depo, etc. But does that mean that Cindy is correct? Cindy had a reason to state the ‘facts’ as she presented them, not all was consistent with the objective version of the truth.

We know ‘x’ because Cindy said George was wrong– how many times for George? How many times was LE wrong, even outright lies of the Sheriff’s Office to Cindy according to Cindy. George had the date wrong of the ‘chasing Casey in Cindy’s vehicle’ date, George was wrong about the ID being in the car (remember, George was the person who drove the car home while Cindy went back to work. George was the one, who, according to Lee, was a neatnik with his cars and he cleaned up the car. George lied to the LE about the ID? (George, ex-cop would not be talking about the lanyard ID card, but proper DL or other ID that Casey had for ‘legal’ identification purposes when answering LE’s direct question about the ‘purse and ID’ left in the car.

Casey could have had more than one purse, had she intended to leave garbage, clothes, resumes, in the car, she could also have planted a second ‘purse’.

More to come out on Casey’s ID (s) in the future, I’m sure.

    Kleat,

Casey was in jail when the warrant was served for the voice mail records on July 25. She was arrested on July 16 and bonded out on August 21.

    Suz,

This paragraph is from discovery page 3081 in the set containing cell phone information that was released on January 21:

“On July 25, 2008, Detective Cawn accessed and listened to the voice messages in the “in box” dated July 16, 2008 at 8:15am to July 16, 2008 at 9:08am. It was undetermined at that time whether or not the messages could be of evidentiary value. A second search warrant was obtained by Detective Cawn on July 29, 2008 for the purposes of obtaining and preserving all existing and incoming voice messages to date. Execution of the warrant was attempted that same day, however service to the phone had since been discontinued by unknown person(s) and access to the phone was denied.”

    ***

It’s possible that the “unknown person(s)” who discontinued the phone service work in the billing department at AT&T Cellular.

On July 15, shortly before Cindy found her, Casey made calls at 5:42pm, 5:59pm, and 6:26pm to the toll-free number 1-866-361-4999 (a collection agency) and according to Scared Monkeys, she got the message, “We’re sorry but your service has been temporarily suspended due to a past due balance. Enter the wireless number you are calling about.”

Her phone service (other than to reach the billing department) had been suspended for non-payment. In a desperate move to maintain her cell service, Casey tried to electronically transfer the amount of the bill, $574.60, from Amy Huizenga’s checking account to AT&T Cellular. She initiated the transfer, and at 6:30pm, she received a text message that read: “AT&T Free msg: Pmt conf #QPSCAC237316569. Bank Acct debit authorized for $574.60 on 07/15/08 and successfully posted to Acct 04985420-001-04.”

However, the bill was not paid because Casey had already completely emptied the checking account and because Amy Huizenga closed the account the following morning. A Bank of America security investigator noted in an August 6 report that the attempted electronic transfer was unsuccessful and AT&T’s payment request was rejected on August 18 due to insufficient funds.

So it’s possible AT&T shut off the phone service for non-payment.

It’s possible that Casey (through Baez) shut down the phone service because she didn’t want LE to hear the voice messages, especially the ones left by Cindy.

If the Anthonys couldn’t get the phone records, I don’t see how they could instruct AT&T to shut down the account. However, it’s possible that Cindy, George, or Lee told AT&T Cellular that the bill was not going to be paid (and didn’t inform LE what they were doing), and AT&T disconnected the phone in response.

Even if the voice mail recordings were lost, the telephone numbers that were used to leave those voice mails were not lost, and AT&T was still able to provide detailed records of Casey’s incoming and outgoing phone numbers (live calls, text messages, and voice mails) through July 17, 2008.

There isn’t a single phone call from anyone named Zenaida Gonzalez or Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez and Casey claimed to have received phone calls from her from at least three different area codes. Casey claimed to have exchanged emails with ZFG and none of those have ever been found. She also claimed to have communicated with ZFG via MySpace, and no messages supporting her claim have been found.

The defense may try to argue that ZFG is merely a code name for one of Casey’s acquaintances, but that is an impossible task IMO, and the fact that the voice mails may be irretrievable won’t make it any easier for the defense to make the argument.
