Caylee/Casey Anthony Case: Caylees Autopsy Revelations Part I

Orlando, FL– Under heavy objection last Friday afternoon, Judge Stan Strickland denied the motion on behalf of George and Cindy Anthony to seal Caylee Marie Anthonys autopsy until their daughter Caseys capital murder trial in their granddaughters death. Late Friday afternoon, the Findings of Dr. Jan Garavaglia, Chief Medical Examiner of Orange County were released. In Part I, we explore a few of the notable findings, In Development for Part II, Blinkoncrime will be is creating an interactive 3D Model, incorporating the evidence recovery field, bone disbursement pattern, and anatomical example of the duct tape placement.

The Laundry Bag

WhitneyLaundryBagAlthough the report contains a significant amount of anthropologic and forensic data, it does not contain photos or X-Rays, pursuant to the Earnhardt exclusion under Florida Law. Blinkoncrime.com will attempt to offer some observations and in some cases, correct some erroneous information that is being reported in the msm. For starters, the laundry bag picture being circulated, it is incorrect, the image to the left is the correct bag, note the dimensions are exact. The top of this bag does not cinch.

The Duct Tape

I have seen rampant speculation on the duct tape beginning around 15 minutes following the release of the report.  DuctThere are many who believe that Casey Anthony killed her child by wrapping her nose and mouth with duct tape. Allow me to point out the report actually reflects the antithesis of this theory. First, there IS NO TAPE ON THE POSTERIOR of her skull. The only posterior placement of the tape mentioned is still located on the mandible, or face. The tape, which was actually small strips of grey cloth-based, delaminating tape is applied on top of itself, not really feasible with a live toddler. Given the findings that Caylee’s mandible stayed in almost true anatomical position, although slightly posterior and that the hair that was attached to the tape extended from the back of her head and over her head and face, it is likely Caylee was laying on her back when the tape was applied.  Henkel makes 2 kinds of duct tape, one is more Industrial grade of adhesive “hot set” over cloth designed for waterproof and outdoor projects. It has not yet been disclosed which formulation was used.

The O Sign

A contributing poster at blinkoncrime gave me something to think about that had not occurred to me. I am on record stating I do believe that Casey Anthony murdered her daughter, and that she will end up pointing the finger at one or both of her parents as a defense strategy.

However, the duct tape never really fit for me. I have always believed it to be a post mortem tactic to stage a kidnapping. I do believe I may have been wrong. Very well known to medical and critical care professionals, there is something called an O effect; occurring at very near death, or shortly following death and before rigormortis sets in.

Some medical people refer to it when the person is very near death or has just died–the jaw drops open. Nothing left to hold the mandible shut. In morgue kits there is a strap that is applied around the jaw to gently close it before rigor sets in. This “O” sign can be very pronounced and unsettling to see first hand. Casey probably wasn’t aware of this and was really spooked by this silent scream and used the duct tape then put a heart sticker on it as a ________

This makes sense to me. The tape is applied in small strips across the nose and mouth areas, catching her hair in the face over the Coronal plane region. One interpretation that may be drawn is that Caylee was lying on her back, upon seeing what Casey had done to her child as evidenced by the relaxed mandible; she attempted to “fix her”. As if covering up the evidence of death on her baby would change things, complete with a heart sticker. No sooner did I arrive at this conclusion on Saturday, did I see Dr.Michael Baden appear on Geraldo Live on Sunday evening bringing up the mortuary kit issue. I am not saying this idea originated here, not that it would be the first time, but it at least tells me there is corroboration within the forensic Medical community as to the premise. The FBI report on the duct tape has not been released. One thing is certain, what I have been stating all along about Casey’s prints being on the duct tape seems foreboding. With multiple strips of tape, chances are there are several. The defense has had this report for months, is this why Casey Anthony retained Todd Macaluso?

Swim Diaper?

There are several remnants recovered that are described as a diaper or pull ip item. However, there are a few that appear to be strictly synthetic. When I read the report, my immediate reaction based on some of the coloring was that it was a “swimmie”, or disposable swim diaper. After mapping out the dimensions and a closer look, I believe it is actually referring to remnants of both a pull up, a reusable swim diaper, or swim floation/assistance device or both, as pictured here:

CayleeSwim2 CayleeSwim-1 SwimDiaper-2

PrincessDiaper Diapergarbage

Paper Towels

Simply stated there is decomposition fluid on paper towels in the plastic garbage bag found in her trunk that came from Tony Lazzarros apartment.

In my opinion, Casey ripped the bag Caylees remains were in when she moved her body into or out of the trunk to her final resting place in the woods off Suburban. The stain in the trunk, emitting the ungodly stench, was the target of the paper towels after Casey returned to TonE’s apartment. She brought the paper towels and garbage bag out with her in an attempt to clean it up and realized almost immediately it was an excerise in futility. Immediately following are her comments to Amy about George Anthony borrowing her car, and the infamous squirrel stowaway story.

Her Clothes

In contrast to only a stitching remnant with a manufactures tag left of her shirt, Caylees shorts were found nearly 2 ft ft away from the laundry bag, in relatively good condition. Based on the reports findings of trunk and femural animal activity and the corresponding recovery area, I am of the opinion that it is not possible that Caylee was wearing those shorts when she was dumped in the woods. Frankly, given the fact that the actual color stripe pattern was discernable versus the condition of the other items, I am suspect Casey was in those woods more than once. How do you get only the collar of a shirt remaining and her shorts completely intact with no noted damage? Lastly, Caylees shoes if she were wearing any, were not recovered.

Please help me….I never heard the Anthonys found anything significant in their yard on the 3rd. What did they do with this information did they tell LE about it after June 16th?

  2. Kelly says:

Riddle, since the shorts are made of 100% organic matter (cotten). Wouldn’t they appropriately be referred to as being in a state of decomposition? This opposed to the diaper materials collected which would not technically decompose for 10-12 years. This is my assumption…

Of course, this makes it seem even less likely that the shorts could be in such good shape – when compared to other matter – after so much time.

I’m having a little trouble with the theory that Casey “buried” Caylee under the playhouse. Post #103. We owned that exact playhouse when my girls were little (gave it away 6 years ago)…and although it is roomy for kids, it is not big enough for adult to get in with a shovel and dig. So imo she would have had to moved the playhouse and then moved it back (a little difficult, but not impossible for her do by herself). Second…as previously posted, this playhouse does come with a floor. However, I saw a photo of Caylee in it and could see the pavered floor George must have made for it. So Casey would have had to move the playhouse; take out several pavers (not easy to do, especially if they have been there awhile; dug a hole; covered her up; replaced the pavers and then moved the playhouse back onto the pavered floor. That would have been ALOT of work, something I just can’t see Casey doing, for the life of me. I’m thinking it is more likely that she just laid the baby inside the playhouse, one last time so to speak…until she could figure out what to do next. I suppose she could have had help and perhaps this is what the grandparents found on July 3rd, but that would mean she had an accomplice? Anybody…thoughts???
That is a possibility I have toyed with, but review the footage of the forensic team at the scene again, They moved it and dug underneath it, I have to believe for that reason.

  9. Tommie says:

Whoops…I meant does NOT come with a floor…sorry!

  10. Tommie says:

And then she would have had to do it all over again to get the body out and take Caylee to the woods. Forgot to add that to my previous post, sorry for the muliple comments.

Okay guys, this is making me crazy. Can someone PLEASE help me here. I know I asked this a little bit ago, but it is still making me nuts.

Blink: Forgive me if I am asking a dumb question, but I have followed this case from day one and have been reading your post since you starting reporting on Caylee. I have been able to follow most of everything you have stated, but there is ONE thing I am not getting. The “July 3rd, mark my words” in comment 125 above. What does that date have to do with Lee Anthony being treated different because he knows what he has done? Am I missing something here?

Can someone give me some guidance here?

Not dumb. I believe Lee is responsible for deleting Casey’s computer and accounts, and possibly “other”, and he was aware of what was found at the house to necessitate him and Cindy stalking Casey that day and weekend.

In jail visit log..it seems Will Waters went to visit Casey on 7/29/08 at 7pm and then Stephanie Kostakis on 8/03/09 at 9pm?? Do we know if Casey denied those visits or were they just not released?? Found it odd since Stephanie Kostakis interview never released either….

Neither took place, she denied both. But very good observation. Have you researched Stephanie’s relevance?

  14. lily says:

Thinking of the playhouse and the pavers. If Casey moved the playhouse, dug up and moved the pavers, dug a hole big enough for Caylee, replaced some (not all) of the dirt, replaced the pavers and then replaced the playhouse . . . what did she do with the extra soil? Also, she would have HAD to use a shovel which appeared unused. I suppose the shovel could have been cleaned however. Also, Casey would have been filthy from all of that work. Do you suppose she used the pool to clean herself up and that’s why the ladder was moved?

After all of that, she would have had to repeat the same exercise all over again in order to move Caylee to the trunk of her car.

By that time, the yard would have been obviously disturbed. There’s no way G&C would not have noticed that the dirt, pavers and playhouse weren’t the way they were before. Plus the ladder being moved. IMO they put 2+2 together and didn’t necessarily need to ‘find’ anything other than that to come to some scary conclusions. Add the fact that Casey had not returned home for additional clothes, food, toys for Caylee for way too long and well it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to get the imagination going. I think it was a gradual realization for them. It wasn’t just one thing and they didn’t want to believe it but the overwhelming evidence just built up.

  15. Brenda in Virginia says:

yeah Susan #139…and do not forget Cindy decrying to Casey “what have you done?” that day she realized Caylee was gone. I think under such pressure, that was the most truthful thing Cindy has expressed about her true understanding of what her daughter was capable of!

  16. Brenda in Virginia says:

You know what? Neither my husband or I would commit murder, but to defend ourselves or one another against someone meaning to do us harm…or wishing to harm our kids? Yup! No doubt. Yet…if someone told me my husband had killed one of our kids…the LAST thing I’d ask him is what have you done? I’d be saying, “why would anyone come to such a conclusion? Cannot BE!”.

I still say what Cindy said means just what Blink and most of us believe…C&G know Casey killed her daughter, but pride and arrogance and the thought of losing another family memeber keeps them lying about it.

Lee has been way too silent. In some instances, silence is deafening..like this one!

    Blink,
TY again…the hair report still has me stumped, but I am looking for more info.

It amazes me as I find we all have our reasons for being here, sometimes I have to walk away for a bit after I read here. GB to all.

Pam from TX- TY !!! what a great link, and not just for that reference, very useful. Amazing posts from everyone!

I’ve been waiting for clues of a way to tell whether or not death actually occurred in the trunk, or pool, bath tub, etc. The link below is a great site, with lots of info relevant to our discussions. Also gives insight into Dr. Baden. (but sorry it is graphic)

    In part he states this:
And sometimes we can tell by the types of flies and maggots that settle on the body whether it’s been moved from an indoor location to an outdoor one. For example, if a person is killed and put into the trunk of a car, flies should not be able to get to the body. So, If we find maggots on the body in the trunk of the car, we know that the person died outside of that trunk — someplace where flies could get to the body and lay eggs on it — and then put into the trunk afterwards. If the person dies in the trunk or has died and then been placed immediately in the trunk, there shouldn’t be any flies or maggots on him.

    http://www.hbo.com/autopsy/baden/qa_8.html

And I should mention one of the recent reports show pizza (which they state wasn’t in the trunk anyway) was tested and no maggots developed.

Lastly, Blink… I hold empathy for the Anthonys while intensely disliking their actions…….and every time I hear Mrs.Cindy bashing bloggers I smile a little and immediately think of YOU……..very fondly. :)

  19. Brenda in Virginia says:

Well…let me clarify..not MURDER…but kill to defend ourselves or loved ones if threatened with a deadly situation. I’d better be clear. Dont want to give wrong impression :>)

I know Blink remembers me writing about the death threats we received and endured for a time. WE seriously understand how it tightened our family together over fear for each other’s safety. That’s what’s going on with the Anthony’s but backwards!!!

  20. Tommie says:

Blink…your right, I remember seeing that footage – but I would think they did that because at the time, they believed Caylee was not with us anymore and were looking in obvious places first to find her body. I’m not sure if they found anything “under” the playhouse to indicate her body was ever there. I do know the cav dogs did hit on the playhouse, which would inicate to me the body was just placed inside or beside it for a short time. Anyway, just thinkin’ out loud, thanks for the opportunity!

  21. annals says:

    I don’t think Casey killed Caylee primarily to eliminate her as an impediment to her relationship with Tony Lazarro. I think it was more complicated than that. Here’s why (and this also goes into my belief that Casey was not using Zanax on Caylee in order to party);

    Back when I was trying to check out the zanax use issue, I was reading everything I could find about times Casey was partying with friends, previous to June 15. This is what I found;

    1) Casey often had Caylee with her when she was visiting with friends, even when house partying. (Amy’s statements)
    2) During her relationship with Ricardo Morales she had Caylee with her even when spending the night with him.
    3) Cindy got mad at her when she found out that Casey had been at the Anything But Clothes Party, because Casey told her she needed Cindy to babysit Caylee for some other (non-partying) reason.
    4) Cindy often had Caylee on evenings when Casey was “working”. Casey even often dropped Caylee off at Cindys workplace in order to arrive “at work” on time in the late afternoon/early evening.

So I started seeing that Caylee was often with Casey & her friends and she also had significant amounts of time to party while Cindy had the baby. So…no need to knock Caylee out in order to party.

But in May, Cindy got tired of picking up the slack while Casey lied about where she was going and why she needed child care help. Coincidentally Casey started saucy texting with Tony Rusciano, who wanted Casey to visit him alone; without the baby. There ensued many sexually anxed text messages wherein they could not connect in person because Casey could not get a babysitter. No use of zanax to facilitate those cancelled tryst meetings.

Then she became involved with Tony Lazarro and his friends. In late May and the 1st days of June, Casey had Caylee with her when she saw them in the daytime. But appearantly, at Tony’s place, where a friend was camped on the couch, staying overnight with the baby was taboo and Casey did not overnight there until June 16.

In the mean time Casey was communicating with another boyfriend, Mark Hawkins who lives in CA. They planned to get together. And don’t forget that the minute Tony Lazarro left for a trip to New York, Casey gets with William Waters!

I am trying to paint a picture of Casey, not only serially involved with men, but also many of her boyfriends coincide in time. She was not solely zeroed in on Tony Lazarro. But, starting in May, she had a series of circumstances wherein, caretaking Caylee was (for the 1st time) seriuosly cutting into her night life.

And I do believe that anger at Cindy played a role in Caylee’s death, too.

  22. Kleat says:

Blink– you give me WAYYYYYY too much credit!! It’s a copy and paste and alter text inside, job!! (it was ‘shareable’…. just so you know…. came with the offer to share, well, ok, it was to be shared with a BGT singer, but hey… it’s shareable!!

  23. Angela says:

I too have been wondering about Mark Hawkins (post 146) — I remember reading his text messages with Casey but I don’t know where I found that – if anyone comes across it plz post it. I am wondering if she started telling MH she was going to visit him (in California) before or after Tony started teasing her that he would not be returning to Orlando, rather staying in New York City.

  24. BEES KNEES says:

If Baez & Co. lose the battle over the fraud court dates I wonder if they will look upon it as a golden opportunity to begin crafting their defense in the upcoming murder trial. For example, Casey’s mental “issues” could be established if they decided to go in that direction. BUT ~ there’s still that nasty “c” word that would have to be part of it all (confession), right?

Blink..i am stuck on this Stephanie girl for some reason!! She keeps popping up and i just can’t quite put it together..I know there is something important to it because of the LE interview being withheld…Any hints Blink??

  26. Tommie says:

Here’s a question…if the family did in fact find something alarming on July 3rd, which prompted the calls, searching, and deleting…why did it basically stop (except for some calls and texts) after that weekend? It seems like they just went about their business until they got the notice from the tow yard. If I were Cindy, I would have not stopped searching for Casey until I found her (
Because they bought whatever she was selling.

  27. Kleat says:

Blink, Lee and Cindy could not ‘stalk’ Casey unless they saw her, so are you saying they ‘tried’ to stalk her, or are you actually suggesting they saw her and followed or watched her?? There was the failed attempt to catch Casey with Caylee at Universal that day.

Also, are you saying that Lee, not Casey, who deleted the Myspace/FB stuff after it was said that she learned that Lee found her by reading her posts about her plans?

  28. Lori says:

Susan – Hi! Thanks for responding. Interesting – I did not know about her singing aspirations…I agree she had nowhere to go and time was running out on her. I keep wondering why we haven’t seen his transcript – I’m sure that I read that LE went to California to interview him. Perhaps because he’s in the service, there’s a confidentiality issue with his interview. I’ve always thought as well that Casey seems to have gotten very lucky with the forensics in this case so far. She certainly doesn’t seem to be a clever or calculating killer – just kind of thought things up as she went along. The 31 day lead time really changed the forensics but the case is still very solid, IMO.

  30. Kleat says:

Hey wait a minute (this is off-topic for this thread but upcoming story on the tattoo’s Casey had)…. looking at Casey’s photobucket for Stephanie-K, came across a beach photo, Casey holding Caylee, and there’s a tattoo on her right hip above bikini line.

Danny, tattoo shop owner, said (either his interview or last night on NG transcripts) that Casey had TWO (2) tattoos. That is not right– Casey has this one on her hip, then she has the one on her shoulder re: the Belle Vita, then there is a photo of Casey in the car, jeans on, Amy going at her butt, showing the ‘Shamrock’ tattoo on her lower back center.

Then Danny had seen Casey on July 15th, Tuesday, when she came into the shop to say she would come in (bring Caylee too) on Saturday for another tattoo– that would make her 4th, not 3rd. (undisclosed design apparently…. wonder who she might have shared her new tattoo design plans with– Daly maybe, or Bobby?)

    (diversion– fwiw)

  31. Tommie says:

Well if they were buying what she was selling…then we are giving them way too much credit for being involved in some kind of cover-up before July 15th! Lee figured out on July 3rd that she was lying about being in Jacksonville…so if they believe a single word Casey said after that — then they are dumber than dirt…and do have the intelligence to organize a riot, let alone cover-up a murder. This case boggles my mind!!

  32. Cheryl says:

Im not sure of the validity of this but Im recalling that they found on Casey’s computer an TV epsisode that she googled regarding a nanny kidnapping a child. Perhaps the duct tape served the purpose to have the kidnapped look
    - I think there are so many things on her computer that are give aways but how much can they use against her- Im not sure. Esp the part where she removes all of her childs pictures on her myspace- thats disturbing

  33. artgal says:

I never heard Casey wanted to be a singer – maybe the use of Juliette Lewis’s name, who is an actress and singer that has a band, is where
she came up with that name when asked about who else knew the Nanny.
Casey said Juliette Lewis and Jeff Hopkins as I recall.

  34. Then down farther on the left is a link to Mark Hopkins MySpace page (evidently he is married now) and that menu spot has a few notes of interest.

Also in the main body of the page scroll down to see the story, Theories into Caylee’s Paternity. I think she had been planning on killing Caylee for some time because of jealousy and ” baggage” but then when the famous strangling fight with Cindy happenend , that was the icing on the cake and she went thru with it , to punish Cindy .

    Kelly post #154,
IDK the wording particularly bothered me, clearly NOT used for anything else, like the shirt, plastics, etc. and especially this: “multiple irregular defects consistent with decomposition.” Decomposition of what? the shorts themselves or body fluids on them, etc.???…again terminology is what I’m questioning. Word is clearly reserved otherwise for the body and bodily related items in the rest of autopsy.

Brenda post #165 & 166- I so totally agree, esp what the A’s said in the beginning being so crucial, more “real” or credible. And btw….(maybe I read too many crime stories ), but also agree w/y if my family was threatened directly, I KNOW what I’d be capable of, no doubts. I have a 5 yo niece, and Neveah B. case just rung my bell on that one. My n. isn’t allowed to walk ‘ahead’ to the car by herself (lives in apt complex too). Afraid I’d be needing bail money.

This case boggles my mind!!” LOL …u are not alone friend…. don’t think the A’s ever believed a word either. C’mon…from experience they knew better than all of US from the get go.

I agree with you also I would like to add that not only do they not have a defense.
but there are no good character witness to come foward and say something good about casey anthony…
george ans cindy are a poor excuse for grandparents/parents.

“Come On, we already know that duct tape will not stick to damp skin.”

Had exact same thoughts on wet hair….but can definitely dry in less than 2-4 hours, esp summer in FL. (in relation to “O theory” pre-rigor mortis). IDK. But am wondering if first layer, all layers, or last layer of tape went onto the hair? This has bugged me since the beginning when they found her and the taping issue came up.

Blink, if the duct tape was to make it look like a kidnapping, why all the other self-incriminating evidence (items from the home, etc)? And why go on to act completely guilty, rather than reporting Caylee missing and feigning the appropriate emotions? Was it an initial attempt that was then aborted? Or ?

One thing that has been overlooked in this is justice for Amy as well. She told her most intimate personal secrets to a lunatic and offered her friendship and love with no strings attached. She was rewarded with financial ruin and the biggest kick in the butt she will probably ever recieve. They are now going to prosecute Casey for her financial crimes against Amy. It has been 11.5 months. Amy deserves better justice than the system has offered her so far.

Incidentally, I wonder if some of her statement was redacted as well. There is a reason she has maintained silence since that first awkward attempt at an interview at her front door. She must have something the SA needs her to say at trial. Poor her.

Blink, I don’t know how to get ahold of you – but I am surprised you are not covering the Tamara Greene case out of Detroit – the rumored murder of the exotic dancer by the ex-mayor of Detroit. This story doesn’t seem to die – and it seems there is something there.

Blink I just discovered this site over the weekend. Just want to thank yu and others here for providing such great info. I must admit that I was hoping the opinions I was drawing observing the a’s throughout was a result of my horror over this childs death. But the info you have provided is astounding. I too feel the defense will fail and caylee will get justice. She died too soon
